ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the effect of aromatherapy (inhaled or via the skin) with lavender, sweet orange and bergamot essential oils on caregivers’ overload and fatigue. Method: Pilot, quasi-experimental, randomized, non-blind and parallel study with two groups. The reduced Zarit Burden Interview and Revised Piper scales were used, comparing the effect of two routes of administration. The recommendations of the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials were respected. Final sample with 23 caregivers of elderly people cared for by the Home Care Program of a University Hospital, in the city of São Paulo, between May and September 2021. To analyze the outcome after 21 days, the Wilcoxon test was used to compare the effects. For the linear model, and for the variable perceived duration of fatigue, the Cumulative Link Mixed Model was used. The significance level adopted was 5%. Results: Temporal perceptions of fatigue were reduced throughout the study for the groups. However, there was no decrease in overload or fatigue, regardless of the moment and groups. Conclusion: Overload and fatigue were reduced in the group that received the treatment through inhalation, showing no statistical significance.

Objective: to analyze the sociodemographic and training profile of nursing professionals in the state of São Paulo in relation to Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health. Method: cross-sectional study, developed with 3,794 nursing professionals in the state of São Paulo, from 645 municipalities. To collect data, an online questionnaire was used containing sociodemographic and professional training variables. A hierarchical multiple Poisson regression model was constructed, considering training in practices as the dependent variable, with a significance level of 5%. Results: of the 3,794 (100%) participants, 479 (12.62%) had training in Integrative and Complementary Health Practices. The most frequent practices were auriculotherapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine/acupuncture and Reiki. The predominant training modalities were free, face-to-face and theoretical-practical courses. The variables age, no formal religion, higher education and specialization level, working hours and knowledge and previous experience on integrative practices were significant. Conclusion: the results indicate the need to encourage and expand the training of Integrative and Complementary Health Practices for nursing professionals, in order to strengthen their performance in health services.

Summary: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been identified in diverse fungi, including human pathogens. In this protocol, we present two techniques for isolating and analyzing fungal EVs. The first is for high-throughput screening, and the second is for yielding concentrated samples suitable for centrifugation-based density gradients. We describe steps for analytical assays such as nano-flow cytometry and nanoparticle tracking analysis to measure EV dimensions and concentration. Objectives: this study aimed at estimating and comparing the reliability of temperature measurements obtained using a peripheral infrared temporal thermometer, a central cutaneous thermometer (“Zero-Heat-Flux Cutaneous thermometer”) and an esophageal or nasopharyngeal thermometer among elective surgical patients in the intraoperative period. Method: a longitudinal study with repeated measures carried out by convenience sampling of 99 patients, aged at least 18 years old, undergoing elective abdominal cancer surgeries, with anesthesia lasting at least one hour, with each patient having their temperature measured by all three methods. Results: the intraclass correlation coefficient showed a low correlation between the measurements using the peripheral temporal thermometer and the central cutaneous (0.0324) and esophageal/nasopharyngeal (-0.138) thermometers. There was a high correlation (0.744) between the central thermometers evaluated. Conclusion: the data from the current study do not recommend using infrared temporal thermometers as a strategy for measuring the body temperature of patients undergoing anesthetic-surgical procedures. Central cutaneous thermometers and esophageal/nasopharyngeal thermometers are equivalent for detecting intraoperative hypothermia.

The release of extracellular vesicles (EVs) has been implicated as an alternative transport mechanism for the passage of macromolecules through the fungal cell wall, a phenomenon widely reported in yeasts but poorly explored in mycelial cells. In the present work, we have purified and characterized the EVs released by mycelia of the emerging, opportunistic, widespread and multidrug-resistant filamentous fungus Scedosporium apiospermum. Transmission electron microscopy images and light scattering measurements revealed the fungal EVs, which were observed individually or grouped with heterogeneous morphology, size and electron density. The mean diameter of the EVs, evaluated by the light scattering technique, was 179.7 nm. Overall, the structural stability of S. apiospermum EVs was preserved during incubation under various storage conditions. The lipid, carbohydrate and protein contents were quantified, and the EVs’ protein profile was evidenced by SDS-PAGE, revealing proteins with molecular masses ranging from 20 to 118 kDa. Through immunoblotting, ELISA and immunocytochemistry assays, antigenic molecules were evidenced in EVs using a polyclonal serum (called anti-secreted molecules) from a rabbit inoculated with conditioned cell-free supernatant obtained from S. apiospermum mycelial cells. By Western blotting, several antigenic proteins were identified. The ELISA assay confirmed that the anti-secreted molecules exhibited a positive reaction up to a serum dilution of 1:3200. Despite transporting immunogenic molecules, S. apiospermum EVs slightly induced an in vitro cytotoxicity effect after 48 h of contact with either macrophages or lung epithelial cells. Interestingly, the pretreatment of both mammalian cells with purified EVs significantly increased the association index with S. apiospermum conidia. Furthermore, EVs were highly toxic to Galleria mellonella, leading to larval death in a typically dose- and time-dependent manner. Collectively, the results represent the first report of detecting EVs in the S. apiospermum filamentous form, highlighting a possible implication in fungal pathogenesis.

ABSTRACT Resistance to fluconazole (FLC), the most widely used antifungal drug, is typically achieved by altering the azole drug target and/or drug efflux pumps. Recent reports have suggested a link between vesicular trafficking and antifungal resistance. Here, we identified novel Cryptococcus neoformans regulators of extracellular vesicle (EV) biogenesis that impact FLC resistance. In particular, the transcription factor Hap2 does not affect the expression of the drug target or efflux pumps, yet it impacts the cellular sterol profile. Subinhibitory FLC concentrations also downregulate EV production. Moreover, in vitro spontaneous FLC-resistant colonies showed altered EV production, and the acquisition of FLC resistance was associated with decreased EV production in clinical isolates. Finally, the reversion of FLC resistance was associated with increased EV production. These data suggest a model in which fungal cells can regulate EV production in place of regulating the drug target gene expression as a first line of defense against antifungal assault in this fungal pathogen. IMPORTANCE Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane-enveloped particles that are released by cells into the extracellular space. Fungal EVs can mediate community interactions and biofilm formation, but their functions remain poorly understood. Here, we report the identification of the first regulators of EV production in the major fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans. Surprisingly, we uncover a novel role of EVs in modulating antifungal drug resistance. Disruption of EV production was associated with altered lipid composition and changes in fluconazole susceptibility. Spontaneous azole-resistant mutants were deficient in EV production, while loss of resistance restored initial EV production levels. These findings were recapitulated in C. neoformans clinical isolates, indicating that azole resistance and EV production are coregulated in diverse strains. Our study reveals a new mechanism of drug resistance in which cells adapt to azole stress by modulating EV production.

Abstract Objective: to evaluate nursing professionals and patient safety culture during the professional performance in the care of suspected or infected patients with COVID-19. Method: a cross-sectional study carried out with 90 professionals from critical care units of two teaching hospitals. An instrument for sociodemographic characterization and health conditions was used, in addition to the constructs “Nursing professional and patient safety” and the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture. Univariate analyzes were performed between the diagnosis of COVID-19 and the characteristics of Nursing professionals, applying Kendell’s correlation between the constructs. Results: the COVID-19 diagnosis presented a significant statistical difference between nursing professionals that worked for more than six years at the critical care unit (p=0.020) and the items of the construct “Nursing professional and patient safety” regarding the doubts about how to remove the personal protective equipment (p=0.013) and safety flow (p=0,021). Objetivo: comparar a efetividade da aromaterapia com óleo essencial (OE) de lavanda versus uma sinergia de OE em sintomas psicoemocionais e fadiga de profissionais de enfermagem no contexto da covid-19. Materiais e método: estudo-piloto quase-experimental realizado em 2020. Os profissionais foram randomizados em Grupo 1 — lavanda e Grupo 2 — sinergia lavanda e outros OE. Instrumentos validados no Brasil, Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) e Pictograma de Fadiga, foram aplicados em três momentos: antes da intervenção, após 21 dias de intervenção e três semanas após o fim da intervenção follow-up. Os dados foram avaliados pelo teste x2 de Pearson ou teste exato de Fisher (variáveis dicotômicas) e pelo teste t de Student ou Mann-Whitney (variáveis contínuas). Resultados: participaram 18 profissionais e ambos os grupos mostraram melhora nos escores do SRQ-20 (p < 0,010), que se manteve no follow-up para o Grupo 1, comparado ao momento pré-intervenção (p = 0,033). Houve diminuição significativa da fadiga dos profissionais nos dois grupos (p = 0,010), porém não se observou diferença na melhora do impacto da fadiga na vida diária. Conclusões: houve redução nos sintomas psicoemocionais e na fadiga de profissionais de enfermagem que utilizaram aromaterapia durante a pandemia da covid-19 em ambos os grupos.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to summarize historical aspects related to perioperative nursing education in Brazil and to outline future perspectives. Methods: a descriptive-reflexive essay about the historical process of Brazilian perioperative teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Results: the reflection addresses the historical axes of perioperative nursing, teaching perioperative nursing, curriculum changes, graduate studies and relationship with the perioperative period and trends in perioperative nursing education. Curriculum changes reduced time available for teaching and learning, with a focus on the perioperative period, and diluted contents of surgical nursing in other subjects, which could cause irreversible losses for generalist nurses’ training. Final Considerations: when reviewing historical aspects of national nursing curricula, it was found that the nomenclature perioperative nursing was never used in the curriculum, however, the surgical area has always been contemplated in undergraduate and graduate studies. Future trends indicate the need to integrate themes and prepare professionals with perspectives focused on global health and technology.

Abstract Whereas extracellular vesicle (EV) research has become commonplace in different biomedical fields, this field of research is still in its infancy in mycology. Here we provide a robust set of data regarding the structural and compositional aspects of EVs isolated from the fungal pathogenic species Cryptococcus neoformans, C. deneoformans and C. deuterogattii. Using cutting‐edge methodological approaches including cryogenic electron microscopy and cryogenic electron tomography, proteomics, and flow cytometry, we revisited cryptococcal EV features and suggest a new EV structural model, in which the vesicular lipid bilayer is covered by mannoprotein‐based fibrillar decoration, bearing the capsule polysaccharide as its outer layer. About 10% of the EV population is devoid of fibrillar decoration, adding another aspect to EV diversity. By analysing EV protein cargo from the three species, we characterized the typical Cryptococcus EV proteome. It contains several membrane‐bound protein families, including some Tsh proteins bearing a SUR7/PalI motif. The presence of known protective antigens on the surface of Cryptococcus EVs, resembling the morphology of encapsulated virus structures, suggested their potential as a vaccine. Indeed, mice immunized with EVs obtained from an acapsular C. neoformans mutant strain rendered a strong antibody response in mice and significantly prolonged their survival upon C. neoformans infection.

RESUMO Objetivo Verificar se a Massagem (técnica Anmá) seguida de repouso ou Reiki auxilia na redução dos níveis de estresse e na melhoria da qualidade de vida de indivíduos atendidos em um ambulatório de práticas integrativas. Método Ensaio clínico controlado randomizado conduzido com 122 indivíduos randomizados em três grupos: G1 – Massagem seguida de repouso, G2 – Massagem seguida de Reiki e G3 – controle (sem intervenção). Os níveis de estresse e Qualidade de Vida foram mensurados por meio dos instrumentos LSS e SF-12v2, os quais foram aplicados antes e após intervenção. Resultados Finalizou-se o estudo com 101 participantes. As Massagens seguidas de repouso (G1) ou de Reiki (G2) se mostraram efetivas na redução dos níveis de estresse e melhoria de qualidade de vida quando comparadas ao Grupo Controle (G3). Os melhores resultados obtidos pelo grupo que recebeu Massagem seguida de Reiki (G2) foram observados no domínio mental de qualidade de vida, enfatizando a abrangência dos efeitos do Reiki sobre os aspectos mentais e psicológicos. Conclusão A Massagem seguida de repouso e a Massagem seguida pela aplicação de Reiki se mostraram efetivas na redução dos níveis de estresse e melhoria de qualidade de vida. ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membranous compartments produced by yeast and mycelial forms of several fungal species. One of the difficulties in perceiving the role of EVs during the fungal life, and particularly in cell wall biogenesis, is caused by the presence of a thick cell wall. One alternative to have better access to these vesicles is to use protoplasts. This approach has been investigated here with Aspergillus fumigatus, one of the most common opportunistic fungal pathogens worldwide. Analysis of regenerating protoplasts by scanning electron microscopy and fluorescence microscopy indicated the occurrence of outer membrane projections in association with surface components and the release of particles with properties resembling those of fungal EVs. EVs in culture supernatants were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle tracking analysis. Proteomic and glycome analysis of EVs revealed the presence of a complex array of enzymes related to lipid/sugar metabolism, pathogenic processes, and cell wall biosynthesis. Our data indicate that (i) EV production is a common feature of different morphological stages of this major fungal pathogen and (ii) protoplastic EVs are promising tools for undertaking studies of vesicle functions in fungal cells. IMPORTANCE Fungal cells use extracellular vesicles (EVs) to export biologically active molecules to the extracellular space. In this study, we used protoplasts of Aspergillus fumigatus, a major fungal pathogen, as a model to evaluate the role of EV production in cell wall biogenesis. Our results demonstrated that wall-less A. fumigatus exports plasma membrane-derived EVs containing a complex combination of proteins and glycans. Our report is the first to characterize fungal EVs in the absence of a cell wall. Our results suggest that protoplasts represent a promising model for functional studies of fungal vesicles.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have garnered much interest in the cell biology and biomedical research fields. Many studies have reported the existence of EVs in all types of living cells, including in fifteen different fungal genera. EVs play diverse biological roles, from the regulation of physiological events and response to specific environmental conditions to the mediation of highly complex interkingdom communications. This review will provide a historical perspective on EVs produced by fungi and an overview of the recent discoveries in the field. We will also review the current knowledge about EV biogenesis and cargo, their role in cell-to-cell interactions, and methods of EV analysis. Finally, we will discuss the perspectives of EVs as vehicles for the delivery of biologically active molecules.

The fungal cell wall and membrane are the most common targets of antifungal agents, but the potential of membrane lipid organization in regulating drug-target interactions has yet to be investigated. Energy-dependent lipid transporters have been recently associated with virulence and drug resistance in many pathogenic fungi. To illustrate this view, we discuss (i) the structural and biological aspects of ATP-driven lipid transporters, comprising P-type ATPases and ATP-binding cassette transporters, (ii) the role of these transporters in fungal physiology and virulence, and (iii) the potential of lipid transporters as targets for the development of novel antifungals. These recent observations indicate that the lipid-trafficking machinery in fungi is a promising target for studies on physiology, pathogenesis and drug development. Lipid flippases of the P4-ATPase family are ATP-driven transporters that translocate lipids from the exoplasmic to the cytosolic leaflet of biological membranes. In the encapsulated fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans, the P4-ATPase Apt1p is an important regulator of polysaccharide secretion and pathogenesis, but its biochemical characterization is lacking. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that Apt1p belongs to the subclade of P4A-ATPases characterized by the common requirement for a β-subunit. Using heterologous expression in S. cerevisiae, we demonstrate that Apt1p forms a heterodimeric complex with the C. neoformans Cdc50 protein. This association is required for both localization and activity of the transporter complex. Lipid flippase activity of the heterodimeric complex was assessed by complementation tests and uptake assays employing fluorescent lipids and revealed a broad substrate specificity, including several phospholipids, the alkylphospholipid miltefosine, and the glycolipids glucosyl- and galactosylceramide. Our results suggest that transbilayer lipid transport in C. neoformans is finely regulated to promote fungal virulence, which reinforces the potential of Apt1p as a target for antifungal drug development.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are produced by all domains of life. In fungi, these structures were first described in Cryptococcus neoformans and, since then, they were characterized in several pathogenic and non-pathogenic fungal species. Cryptococcal EVs participate in the export of virulence factors that directly impact the Cryptococcus–host interaction. Our knowledge of the biogenesis and pathogenic roles of Cryptococcus EVs is still limited, but recent methodological and scientific advances have improved our understanding of how cryptococcal EVs participate in both physiological and pathogenic events. In this review, we will discuss the importance of cryptococcal EVs, including early historical studies suggesting their existence in Cryptococcus, their putative mechanisms of biogenesis, methods of isolation, and possible roles in the interaction with host cells.

RESUMO Objetivo Verificar a efetividade do uso da aromaterapia com óleos essenciais de lavanda (Lavandula angustifolia) e gerânio (Pelargonium graveolens) associado à massagem para alívio do estresse de uma equipe de Enfermagem do centro cirúrgico por meio da avaliação de parâmetros biofisiológicos e psicológicos. Método Estudo-piloto do tipo ensaio clínico controlado e randomizado, realizado com a equipe de enfermagem de um centro cirúrgico de um hospital escola do interior do estado de São Paulo. A intervenção foi composta de seis massagens com aromaterapia com os óleos essenciais diluídos em creme neutro na concentração de 1% cada. A frequência cardíaca e a pressão arterial foram verificadas antes e após cada massagem e a Escala de Estresse no Trabalho e a Lista de Sintomas de Stress foram aplicadas antes e ao final da intervenção. Abstract Aromatherapy is a Practical or Complementary Health Therapy that uses volatile concentrates extracted from plants called essential oils, in order to improve physical, mental and emotional well-being. Aromatherapy has been practiced historically and worldwide by nurses and, as in Brazil is supported by the Federal Nursing Council, it is relevant to discuss this practice in the context of Nursing through Theories of Nursing. This study of theoretical reflection, exploratory and descriptive, aims to discuss the pharmacognosy of essential oils, the historical trajectory of Aromatherapy in Nursing and the conceptions to support Aromatherapy in light of eight Nursing Theorists (Florence Nightingale, Myra Levine, Hildegard Peplau, Martha Rogers, Callista Roy, Wanda Horta, Jean Watson and Katharine Kolcaba), contributing to its inclusion as a nursing care practice.

Objective: To verify if the use of ylang ylang essential oil by cutaneous application or inhalation alters the anxiety and self-esteem perception and physiological parameters as blood pressure and temperature. Method : A pilot study with 34 professionals from a nursing group randomized in three groups: one received the ylang ylang essential oil by cutaneous application, the second received through inhalation and the third (placebo) received the ylang ylang essence through cutaneous application. The assessment was done by an Anxiety Inventory (IDATE) and the Dela Coleta self-esteem scale, applied on baseline, after 30, 60 and 90 days and after 15 days post-intervention (follow up). Results : In the pre and post-intervention intergroup analysis, there was a significant difference in self-esteem for the three groups (p values: G1=0.014; G2=0.016; G3=0.038). There were no differences in the analysis between groups for anxiety or for physiological parameters. Conclusion : It was found significant alterations only to the intergroup perception of self-esteem for the three groups.

The objective of this clinical trial was to identify the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnoses for stress symptoms that responded to auriculotherapy. Subjects were 75 nursing professionals of a teaching hospital, with average and high stress scores according to Vasconcelos’ List of Stress Symptoms. The subjects were randomized into three groups (control without treatment, auriculotherapy with needles, and auriculotherapy with seeds), treated weekly in the Kidney, Brain stem and Shenmen, for eight sessions. OBJECTIVE: this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of hand hygiene performed with two different soap formulations: 0.3% Melaleuca alternifolia essential oil versus 0.5% triclosan, and to compare them with two reference hygiene procedures: the official methodology procedure (soft soap) versus the draft version of the procedure (soft soap + propan-2-ol). METHOD: using the European EN 1499 method, logarithmic reduction factors were determined for the number of colony forming units of Escherichia coli K12 before and after hand hygiene of 15 volunteer subjects, and compared using the one-tailed Wilcoxon test. RESULTS: referring to the soft soap, there was no difference between the performance of soap with 0.3% M. alternifolia and soap containing 0.5% triclosan. The soft soap + propan-2-ol proved to be more effective than the other hand hygiene procedures. CONCLUSION: studies to verify the therapeutic efficacy of essential oil in hand hygiene can improve adherence to this practice.

AIM: to evaluate evidence concerning sources or mechanisms of infection transmission of atypical mycobacteria associated with acupuncture, and the species causing infections. METHOD: research was performed in December 2011 in the databases of LILACS, MEDLINE, EMBASE, OvidSP and the Cochrane Library, without restrictions regarding publication date, study type or language. RESULTS: of the 16 publications, only one identified the contamination source: diluted glutaraldehyde solution used to clean equipment. Three established likely sources: towels, hot packs or boiling tank water, and the reuse of reprocessed needles. Four indicated possible sources: contaminated needles, reuse of personal needles, patient's skin colonized by mycobacteria and reuse of needles at different sites in the same patient. Eight of the studies did not mention the sources. CONCLUSION: among 295 cases, M. abscessus was the pathological agent in over 96%. Well-established control practices for infection prevention should be implemented and adapted for complementary and alternative medicine.OBJETIVO: evaluar la evidencia existente sobre las principales fuentes o mecanismos de transmisión de la infección por micobacterias atípicas asociadas con la acupuntura, y las especies causantes de infecciones. RESULTADOS: de las 16 publicaciones, sólo una identificó la fuente de contaminación: la solución de glutaraldehído diluido utilizada para limpiar el equipo. Tres publicaciones establecieron como fuentes probables: las toallas, compresas calientes o el agua hervida, y la reutilización de las agujas reprocesadas. Cuatro publicaciones indicaron como fuentes posibles: las agujas contaminadas, la reutilización de agujas personales, la piel del paciente colonizada por micobacterias y la reutilización de agujas en sitios diferentes en el mismo paciente. Ocho de los estudios no mencionaron nada acerca de las fuentes. CONCLUSIÓN: Entre los 295 casos, M. abscessus fue el agente patológico en más del 96% de los mismos. RESULTADOS: dentre 16 publicações, uma identificou a fonte de contaminação - solução de glutaraldeído diluída, usada para limpar equipamentos. Três estabeleceram fontes prováveis: toalhas, bolsas de água quente ou tanque para ferver água, reutilização de agulhas reprocessadas. Quatro indicaram fontes possíveis: agulhas contaminadas, reutilização de agulhas, pele do paciente colonizada por micobactérias e reutilização de agulhas, em diferentes sítios no mesmo paciente. Oito não citaram nada sobre fontes. CONCLUSÃO: dos 295 casos, M. abscessus prevaleceu em mais de 96%. Práticas bem estabelecidas, recomendadas por controladores de infecção, como enfermeiros, para prevenção de infecções, devem ser implementadas e adaptadas às práticas complementares.

AIMS: randomized clinical trial aimed at evaluating the auriculotherapy in reducing stress levels in 75 nursing professionals and analyze the coping domains that have changed after treatment. METHODOLOGY: volunteers were divided into 3 groups (Control, Needles and Seeds) and received eight sessions at Shenmen, Kidney and Brainstem points. The Control Group didn't receive any intervention. RESULTS: ANOVA test showed statistical differences in stress levels for Needle/Control Groups in the third and fourth assessments, according to Stress Symptoms List when compared the three groups in four assessments. For the Inventory of Folkman/Lazarus, a significant difference was obtained for Spacing domain between needle/control. In analysis within the same group, differences were found for Confrontation in fourth assessment between Needle/Control Groups and for Social Support in the third one between Seeds/Control Groups. CONCLUSION: The auriculotherapy decreased stress levels, changed Coping domains after treatment, suggesting that both Auriculotherapy with needles and seeds can produce positive impact to improve strategy Coping in the nursing team. However, more studies are needed to conceive the extent of the technique.OBJETIVOS: Ensayo clínico hecho aleatorio objetivó evaluar la auriculoterapia para disminución de niveles de estrés en 75 profesionales de Enfermería de un hospital y analizar los principales dominios de Coping que se modificaron después del tratamiento. METODOLOGÍA: los sujetos fueron divididos en grupos (Control, Agujas, Semillas), recibieron 8 sesiones en los puntos Shenmen, Riñón y Tronco Cerebral. El Grupo Control no recibió ninguna intervención. RESULTADOS: se constataron diferencias significativas por la ANOVA para niveles de estrés entre el Grupo Aguja/Controle en la tercera y cuarta evaluaciones, según scores de estrés de la Lista de Síntoma de Estrés de Vasconcelos. Para el Inventario de Folkman y Lazarus, se logró diferencia estadística para el dominio Alejamiento entre los Grupos Aguja/Controle después del tratamiento; y en el análisis dentro del mismo grupo, se lograron diferencias significativas para el dominio Confrontación en la cuarta evaluación entre Grupos Aguja/Controle y para Soporte Social, en la tercera evaluación para los Grupos Aguja/Semillas. CONCLUSIONES:la auriculoterapia con agujas apocó los niveles de estrés significativamente y hubo disminución de la utilización de los dominios Alejamiento, Confrontación y Soporte Social para los grupos de intervención después del tratamiento, sugiriendo que la auriculoterapia tanto con agujas cuanto con semillas puede producir un impacto positivo para mejorar estrategia de Coping en el equipo de Enfermería. Más estudios, sin embargo, se hacen necesarios para que se pueda conocer el alcance de la técnica.OBJETIVOS: trata-se de ensaio clínico randomizado com o objetivo de avaliar a auriculoterapia, para diminuição de níveis de estresse, em 75 profissionais de enfermagem de um hospital e analisar os principais domínios de coping que se modificaram após o tratamento. METODOLOGIA: os sujeitos foram divididos em grupos (controle, agulhas, sementes), receberam 8 sessões nos pontos Shenmen, rim e tronco cerebral. O grupo controle não recebeu nenhuma intervenção. RESULTADOS: constataram-se diferenças significativas pela ANOVA, para níveis de estresse entre o grupo agulha/controle na terceira e quarta avaliações, segundo escores de estresse da Lista de Sintoma de Stress de Vasconcelos. Para o Inventário de Folkman e Lazarus, obteve-se diferença estatística para o domínio afastamento entre os grupos agulha/controle, após tratamento; e, na análise dentro do mesmo grupo, obtiveram-se diferenças significativas para o domínio confronto, na quarta avaliação entre grupos agulha/controle e para suporte social, na terceira avaliação para os grupos agulha/semente. CONCLUSÕES: a auriculoterapia com agulhas diminuiu os níveis de estresse significativamente e houve diminuição da utilização dos domínios afastamento, confronto e suporte social para os grupos de intervenção, após o tratamento, sugerindo que a auriculoterapia tanto com agulhas quanto com sementes pode produzir impacto positivo para melhorar a estratégia de coping na equipe de enfermagem. Mais estudos, porém, fazem-se necessários para que se possa conhecer o alcance da técnica.

Este estudo clínico randomizado objetivou avaliar os níveis de estresse na equipe de Enfermagem de um hospital e analisar a efetividade da auriculoterapia com agulhas e sementes. 75 pessoas com escores médio (44/58,7%) e alto (31/41,3%) de acordo com a Lista de Sintomas de Estresse foram divididas em grupos (controle, agulhas e sementes), que receberam oito sessões nos pontos Shenmen, Rim e Tronco Cerebral e foram avaliados no início, com quatro, oito sessões e follow-up (15 dias). Os objetivos deste estudo foram verificar se a inalação dos óleos essenciais de rosa e de ylang-ylang alteram a percepção da autoestima e comparar a eficácia dos mesmos. O projeto foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa do Hospital da Universidade de São Paulo. Participaram 43 funcionários dos setores de Higienização e da Central de Materiais e Esterilização durante os meses de maio a julho de 2009. Os sujeitos foram randomizados em três grupos: dois que receberem os óleos essenciais e outro que recebeu placebo (essência de rosa). A avaliação da autoestima foi feita através de uma escala já validada no Brasil, sendo aplicada antes do uso dos aromas, depois de 30 dias de uso e ao completar 60 dias. Dentre os resultados, verificou-se que a amostra era constituída por 88,6% de indivíduos com média e alta autoestima e que os óleos essenciais em questão não alteraram de forma significativa a percepção da autoestima.

Embora a literatura científica tenha demonstrado a importância da higiene bucal com clorexidina na prevenção de pneumonia associada à ventilação, existe uma grande variação das concentrações, frequência e técnica de aplicação do antisséptico. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a melhor concentração de clorexidina usada para realizar a higiene bucal na prevenção de pneumonia associada à ventilação mecânica. Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática seguida de quatro meta-análises usando como critério a concentração de clorexidina. Foram selecionados artigos em Inglês, Espanhol ou Português indexados nas bases de dados eletrônicas: Cochrane, Embase, Lilacs, PubMed / Medline e Ovid. A pesquisa foi realizada no período de maio a junho de 2011. O desfecho primário de interesse foi a pneumonia associada à ventilação mecânica. Dez estudos primários foram divididos em 4 grupos (G1-4), com base no critério de concentração de clorexidina. G1 (5 estudos primários, clorexidina 0,12%) apresentaram homogeneidade e o uso de clorexidina demonstrou efeito protetor; G2 (3 estudos primários, clorexidina 0,20%) houve heterogeneidade entre os estudos e clorexidina não representou um fator de proteção; G3 (2 estudos primários, clorexidina 2,00%) homogeneidade entre os estudos e a utilização de clorexidina foi significativa; G4 (10 estudos preliminares com diferentes concentrações de clorexidina) homogeneidade entre os estudos e o Risco Relativo comum foi significativo. A análise estatística mostrou um efeito protetor da higiene bucal com clorexidina na prevenção de pneumonia associada à ventilação mecânica. No entanto, não foi possível identificar um padrão para estabelecer a concentração ideal de clorexidina para realização de higiene bucal.

The global mortality due to cryptococcosis caused by Cryptococcus neoformans or C. gattii is unacceptably high. Currently available therapies are decades old and may be impacted by drug resistance. Therefore, the need for more effective antifungal drugs for cryptococcosis is evident. A number of Cryptococcus virulence factors have been studied in detail, providing crucial information about the fungal biology and putative molecular targets for antifungals. This review focuses on the use of well-described virulence factors of Cryptococcus as potential anticryptococcal agents.
