A partir de uma pesquisa em Design que desenvolve uma interface digital direcionada ao ensino acadêmico de Design de Moda, este artigo traz um desdobramento de sua componente exploratória. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar como estudantes de Design de Moda da Universidade Estadual de Londrina consomem conteúdo de Moda para identificar oportunidades para os meios digitais de comunicação de forma a complementar o ensino universitário e prepará-los para o mercado profissional. O método da pesquisa parte de revisão de literatura sobre a evolução da comunicação de Moda desde o início até seu contexto atual e aplicação de questionário com estudantes e entrevistas com professoras. São selecionadas respostas do primeiro e quarto ano para comparação e os principais comentários das entrevistas para sustentar a discussão sobre as questões mais importantes observadas. Por fim é discutido como a comunicação entre professores e estudantes e o percurso acadêmico podem influenciar na procura por informação de Moda pelos estudantes. O artigo tem como resultado a ampliação de perspectivas e possibilidades para as mídias digitais de comunicação de Moda com recursos educativos que complementam o ensino universitário e auxiliam os estudantes no complexo sistema profissional de Moda.

IntroductionThe study aimed to assess yeast-based additives' effects, as monensin alternatives, on rumen fermentation parameters, greenhouse gas emissions, and ruminal kinetics of ruminant diets using an in vitro system. Three experiments were conducted, each individually evaluating escalating levels of three yeast-based additives.MethodsThree experiments were designed: Experiment 1 evaluated prebiotic blend 1—yeast culture [Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Scer)], beta-glucans, fructooligosaccharides, galactooligosaccharides, and mannanoligosaccharides; Experiment 2 investigated prebiotic blend 2—beta-glucan fractions and mannanoligosaccharides from Scer; Experiment 3 examined yeast cells—hydrolyzed, inactivated, and spray-dried yeast (Scer) cells. Uniform experimental design and procedures were employed across the three experiments. Each experiment had six treatments: monensin (Rumensin®, 25 mg/kg DM) as positive control, and yeast additive levels (0, 533, 1,067, 1,600, and 2,133 mg/kg on DM basis) added to ruminant diets (60% corn silage and 40% concentrate). An in vitro gas production (GP) system with 50 AnkomRF bottles assessed total GP (at 24 and 48 hours), kinetics, fermentation profiles, methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations. Comparison with monensin utilized Dunnett’s test (5%). Yeast additive levels were analyzed for linear and quadratic responses.ResultsIn Experiment 1, the 1,600 mg/kg yeast additive had lower concentrations of propionate, isobutyrate, valerate, and branched-chain volatile fatty acids (BCVFAs), and a higher acetate concentration and acetate-to-propionate ratio than monensin. In Experiment 2, the 1,600 mg/kg yeast additive led to lower total VFA and isovalerate concentrations than monensin. Additionally, compared to the 1,067 mg/kg yeast additive, monensin showed lower isovalerate concentration and higher NH3-N concentration. In Experiment 3, the 533 mg/kg yeast additive resulted in lower valerate and BCVFA concentrations, and higher CH4 and CO2 concentrations than monensin. Monensin had lower total VFA, butyrate, and acetate-to-propionate ratio, and higher propionate concentration compared to the 2,133 mg/kg yeast additive.DiscussionCollectively, these findings suggest yeast-based additives could be monensin alternatives, enhancing animal nutrient utilization efficiency and contributing to improved livestock sustainability.

Purpose: The existing tools to quantify lung function in interstitial lung diseases have significant limitations. Lung MRI imaging using inhaled hyperpolarized xenon-129 gas (129Xe) as a contrast agent is a new technology for measuring regional lung physiology. We sought to assess the utility of the 129Xe MRI in detecting impaired lung physiology in usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP). Materials and methods: After institutional review board approval and informed consent and in compliance with HIPAA regulations, we performed chest CT, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), and 129Xe MRI in 10 UIP subjects and 10 healthy controls. Results: The 129Xe MRI detected highly heterogeneous abnormalities within individual UIP subjects as compared to controls. Subjects with UIP had markedly impaired ventilation (ventilation defect fraction: UIP: 30 ± 9%; healthy: 21 ± 9%; p = 0.026), a greater amount of 129Xe dissolved in the lung interstitium (tissue-to-gas ratio: UIP: 1.45 ± 0.35%; healthy: 1.10 ± 0.17%; p = 0.014), and impaired 129Xe diffusion into the blood (RBC-to-tissue ratio: UIP: 0.20 ± 0.06; healthy: 0.28 ± 0.05; p = 0.004). Most MRI variables had no correlation with the CT and PFT measurements. The elevated level of 129Xe dissolved in the lung interstitium, in particular, was detectable even in subjects with normal or mildly impaired PFTs, suggesting that this measurement may represent a new method for detecting early fibrosis. Conclusion: The hyperpolarized 129Xe MRI was highly sensitive to regional functional changes in subjects with UIP and may represent a new tool for understanding the pathophysiology, monitoring the progression, and assessing the effectiveness of treatment in UIP.

A temática do pensamento visual tem tido destaque nos últimos anos e vasto referencial bibliográfico relacionado ao assunto tem sido publicado, no intuito de promover o tema a áreas diversas, para além do Design. Estudantes de graduação em Design Gráfico têm acesso ao longo do curso a diversas disciplinas que trabalham com linguagem visual e são estimulados a trabalhar com soluções gráfico-informacionais. Entretanto, o pensamento visual não tem sido explorado em currículos de Design Gráfico brasileiros como proposta metacognitiva para aperfeiçoar o desenvolvimento de projetos individuais e coletivos relacionados ao Design e à visualização da informação. Neste sentido, este artigo apresenta uma proposta didática para o desenvolvimento do pensamento visual, dentro de uma disciplina optativa que vem sendo ministrada já há cerca de 3 anos no curso de Design Gráfico da UFPR. ***** The topic of visual thinking has been on the spotlight in recent years. A vast bibliographic reference related to the subject has been published, in order to promote it to different areas, beyond Design. Design undergraduate students have access throughout their degree to various courses that work with visual language and are encouraged to work with graphic-informational solutions. However, visual thinking has not been explored in Brazilian Graphic Design curricula as a metacognitive proposal to improve the development of individual and collective projects related to Design and the visualization of information. In this sense, this article presents a didactic proposal for the development of visual thinking, within an elective course that has been taught for about 3 years in Graphic Design at the UFPR

O presente artigo tem como objetivo responder a um conjunto de questões que nos foram colocadas por estudantes e professores sobre as Representações Gráficas de Síntese (RGS). Para tanto, agrupamos as questões em 4 categorias: definição e diferenciação; objetivos da dinâmica envolvendo RGSs; características gráficas das RGSs; processo de produção. Para cada um desses grupos, iniciamos com uma fundamentação teórica apoiada nas áreas de Design da Informação, Construção Colaborativa do Conhecimento e Pensamento visual (visual thinking). Ao responder às questões aliamos os fundamentos teóricos a dados obtidos em nossas pesquisas sobre RGSs. Por fim, reconhecemos a impossibilidade da generalização de todos os aspectos discutidos no artigo para além da área de Design e traçamos alguns desdobramentos rumo à aplicação das RGSs para além das fronteiras do Design.

É direito reservado das pessoas com deficiência o completo acesso à informação e aos ambientes de aprendizagem. Para aprendizes cegos, requer-se atenção em como transpor a informação visual para canais sensoriais alternativos, sem sobrecarregar sua capacidade cognitiva. Assim, levando-se em consideração que pessoas cegas utilizam a audição e o tato como alternativas ao canal visual, o presente artigo discute a aprendizagem de pessoas cegas, a partir da perspectiva do Design da Informação e da Teoria Cognitiva do Aprendizado Multimídia (TCAM). Para tanto, busca-se primeiramente compreender a Teoria do Código Duplo e a TCAM, para, então, refletir sobre uma adaptação da TCAM ao contexto da cegueira. Por fim, traz-se três exemplos de materiais acessíveis para corroborar com os pressupostos teóricos apresentados e discutidos.

RESUMO A sobrevida de pacientes críticos tem aumentado com o tempo. No entanto, a imobilidade e o tempo de internação estão contribuindo para o seu declínio funcional e da sua qualidade de vida. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a independência funcional dos pacientes internados na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) Adulto do Hospital Universitário de Canoas. Pesquisa de coorte prospectiva executada de fevereiro a dezembro de 2016. Os pacientes foram avaliados quanto à capacidade funcional, força muscular, força de preensão palmar, mobilidade, equilíbrio e marcha. Foram avaliados 90 pacientes com média de idade de 59,6±16,1 anos, com predominância do gênero masculino (51,1%). A mediana do tempo de internação na UTI foi de 5 (3-9) dias, e de internação hospitalar de 13 (10-20) dias. Houve melhora significativa nos resultados de capacidade funcional (p

Sugarcane bagasse is an important lignocellulosic material studied for the production of xylooligosaccharides (XOS). Some XOS are considered soluble dietary fibre, with low caloric value and prebiotic effect, but they are expensive and not easily available. In a screening of 138 fungi, only nine were shortlisted, and just Aspergillus fumigatus M51 (35.6 U/mL) and A. fumigatus U2370 (28.5 U/mL) were selected as the most significant producers of xylanases. These fungi had low β-xylosidase activity, which is desirable for the production of XOS. The xylanases from Trichoderma reesei CCT 2768, A. fumigatus M51 and A. fumigatus U2370 gave a significantly higher XOS yield, 11.9, 14.7 and 7.9 % respectively, in a 3-hour reaction with hemicellulose from sugarcane bagasse. These enzymes are relatively thermostable at 40–50 °C and can be used in a wide range of pH values. Furthermore, these xylanases produced more prebiotic XOS (xylobiose and xylotriose) when compared with a commercial xylanase. The xylanases from A. fumigatus M51 reached a high level of XOS production (37.6 %) in 48–72 h using hemicellulose extracted from sugarcane bagasse. This yield represents 68.8 kg of prebiotic XOS per metric tonne of cane bagasse. In addition, in a biorefinery, after hemicellulose extraction for XOS production, the residual cellulose could be used for the production of second-generation ethanol.

OBJETIVO: verificar o julgamento do desempenho de um grupo de telejornalistas, de acordo com a situação, pré e pós uma proposta de intervenção fonoaudiológica, na opinião de telespectadores. MÉTODOS: seis telejornalistas de uma emissora de televisão universitária foram filmados em leitura simulada de apresentação de telejornal, e posteriormente submetidos a uma proposta de intervenção fonoaudiológica. Uma nova filmagem foi realizada após a intervenção sob as mesmas condições anteriores. O material pré e pós-intervenção foi editado de forma aleatória e determinado por sorteio intra-sujeito. A edição foi apresentada, individualmente para 50 telespectadores adultos, para julgamento do desempenho dos telejornalistas. RESULTADOS: no julgamento dos telespectadores observou-se que, dos seis telejornalistas, quatro apresentaram um percentual estatisticamente significante de preferência dos telespectadores na situação pós-intervenção. CONCLUSÃO: verificou-se percentual estatisticamente significante de preferência para os telespectadores na situação pósintervenção, dado que demonstra o efeito positivo da intervenção fonoaudiológica realizada com os telejornalistas.PURPOSE: to examine viewers' perception on television newscaster performance before and after speech-language intervention. METHODS: six university station newscasters were videotaped reading while pretending to be in a news-broadcasting situation. They were then subjected to a speech-language program. The program consisted of four meetings, each lasting two hours and thirty minutes. After the end of the program, the journalists were videotaped for a second time, under the same conditions as before the beginning of the intervention. The recorded pre and post-program material was randomly edited and the order of appearances determined by an intra-subject draw. Subsequently, the edited material was shown to 50 adult viewers, who were asked to provide their opinion on each individual's pre and post-program performance. RESULTS: it was perceived that, in the viewers' opinions, four of the six subjects showed a statistically significant viewer preference for the post-intervention recording. CONCLUSION: the majority of the analyzed newscasters had statistically significant percentages of viewer preferences for the post-intervention recording, demonstrating the positive effects of the speech-language intervention.

OBJETIVO: Analisar parte da produção de conhecimento da área dos Distúrbios da Comunicação. MÉTODOS: Análise dos artigos publicados nos periódicos: Revista de Distúrbios da Comunicação; Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia; Revista Fonoatual e Revista Pró-fono, no período de 2000 a 2005. Variáveis examinadas: temática, faixa etária do público alvo, tipo de intervenção e contexto institucional. RESULTADOS: Foram publicados 724 artigos. A temática mais pesquisada, de forma isolada ou combinada, foi Linguagem Oral (282), seguida de Audiologia (232), Motricidade Oral (91) e Voz (62). A faixa etária mais estudada foi de três a dez anos (145). A atuação de diagnosticar e/ou avaliar foi a mais relatada (547), em contexto clínico (542), escolar (63) e hospitalar (32). CONCLUSÃO: Esses números refletem o aumento das publicações desses periódicos. Há necessidade de uma distribuição mais equilibrada das temáticas, faixas etárias, tipos de intervenções e contextos institucionais nas produções da área. Novos estudos em torno da produção do conhecimento devem ser realizados visando o registro histórico do que tem sido pesquisado e a definição de ações e campos estratégicos para o implemento da pesquisa na área.PURPOSE: To analyze part of the knowledge production in the field of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. METHODS: The articles published in the following journals from the year 2000 to 2005 were analyzed: Revista de Distúrbios da Comunicação; Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia; Revista Fonoatual and Revista Pró-fono. The studied variables were: topic, age range of the studied population, type of intervention, and institutional context. RESULTS: Seven hundred and twenty four articles were published during the period analyzed. The prevailing subject, either individually or in combination with other topics, was Oral Language (282), followed by Audiology (232), Orofacial Myology (91) and Voice (62). The prevailing age range studied was children from three to ten years old (145). Diagnosis and/or evaluation was the most mentioned type of intervention (547), in clinical (542), school (63) and hospital (32) contexts. CONCLUSION: Results reflected an increase of publications in the area during the studied period. The need for a more balanced distribution of topics, age groups, types of intervention, and institutional contexts in future publications is discussed. Further studies regarding knowledge production in the area would allow not only the historic registry of what has been investigated by speech-language therapists and audiologists, but also the definition of actions and strategic fields for implementing research in the area.

Abstract Presents an overview of the ISSN national centers in Latin America, the region of the Americas where mostly Latin derived languages are spoken, especially Spanish and Portuguese. The ISSN presence in the region is low. Only ten out of twenty countries have national centers. Bolivia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay and Peru resort to the international center to request support on obtaining the code. Of the countries which have a national center, five of them are in national libraries: Colombia, in the National Library of Colombia; Costa Rica, in the National Library of Costa Rica (La Biblioteca Nacional Miguel Obregón Lizano); Dominican Republic, in the Central Library of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University; Uruguay, in the National Library of Uruguay and Venezuela, in the National Library of Venezuela. This paper represents the first steps towards constructing a paraconsistent theory of probability based on the Logics of Formal Inconsistency (LFIs). We show that LFIs encode very naturally an extension of the notion of probability able to express sophisticated probabilistic reasoning under contradictions employing appropriate notions of conditional probability and paraconsistent updating, via a version of Bayes’ theorem for conditionalization. We argue that the dissimilarity between the notions of inconsistency and contradiction, one of the pillars of LFIs, plays a central role in our extended notion of probability. Some critical historical and conceptual points about probability theory are also reviewed.

Total proteins and esterases from silk gland extracts of Bombyx mori silkworm were characterized and compared with electrophoretic profiles of prepared extracts with silkworm glands infected with nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV). SDS-PAGE (7%) gels was used for the total proteins, and 10% native PAGE for esterases. In the silk glands extracts of healthy silkworms, it was observed seven protein zones with molecular weight varying between 10 kDa (P1) and 60 kDa (P7). In the infected silkworms, a new zone named P8 (90 kDa) was also detected. Esterases activity at 5th instar larvae underwent changes after the infection with BmNPV, since there was a reduction (EST-6 and EST-7) and an increase (EST-8) in the intensity of the regions of esterases activity, and specificity of EST-9 to β-naphthyl acetate. Those alterations observed in the expression of genes after the infection with the nucleoplyhedrovirus can be used as markers to detect infections in B. mori.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar aspectos de condução da atividade sericícola durante as safras 2001/2002 e 2002/2003 e identificar as principais dificuldades encontradas pelos criadores na região de Umuarama - PR. De um total de 32 propriedades localizadas entre Cruzeiro do Oeste e Maria Helena, foram visitadas 26 propriedades in loco e, a cada visita, os produtores eram entrevistados com o auxílio de um formulário com questões objetivas e subjetivas relacionadas com manejo de criação e condução do amoreiral. Os dados obtidos foram apresentados de forma descritiva em termos de porcentagem. O principal aspecto observado na condução dos amoreirais é que a maioria é formado pela variedade Miura e que muitos produtores oferecem resistência quanto ao uso de variedades mais produtivas na sua renovação. A colheita dos ramos e folhas é estritamente manual. Os ramos e folhas de amoreira são conservados, com pano umedecido, em um depósito junto ao barracão servindo também de depósito de utensílios e equipamentos utilizados durante a criação. Com relação ao manejo de criação o número de tratos diários efetuados por alguns sericicultores está abaixo do recomendado sugerindo-se a necessidade de uma atenção mais efetiva dos responsáveis pela assistência técnica visando ao crescimento produtivo da atividade. As principais dificuldades encontradas dizem respeito à falta de investimento em tecnologia, mão-de-obra, relação de preços de casulos e materiais utilizados, falta de financiamento e monopólio.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Intraoperative nerve monitoring has emerged as a valuable tool to facilitate recurrent laryngeal nerve identification during thyroid surgery, thereby avoiding its injury. The aim was to evaluate vocal fold mobility in patients who underwent thyroidectomy with intraoperative nerve monitoring. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cohort formed by a consecutive series of patients, at a tertiary cancer hospital. METHODS: The subjects were patients who underwent thyroidectomy using intraoperative laryngeal nerve monitoring, between November 2003 and January 2006. Descriptive analysis of the results and comparison with a similar group of patients who did not undergo nerve monitoring were performed. RESULTS: A total of 104 patients were studied. Total thyroidectomy was performed on 65 patients. Vocal fold immobility (total or partial) was detected in 12 patients (6.8% of the nerves at risk) at the first postoperative evaluation. Only six (3.4% of the nerves at risk) continued to present vocal fold immobility three months after surgery. Our previous series with 100 similar patients without intraoperative nerve monitoring revealed that 12 patients (7.5%) presented vocal fold immobility at the early examination, and just 5 (3.1%) maintained this immobility three months after surgery, without significant difference between the two series. CONCLUSION: In this series, the use of intraoperative nerve monitoring did not decrease the rate of vocal fold immobility.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of using 3 yeast-based additives as an alternative to sodium monensin on rumen fermentation parameters using a dual-flow continuous fermentation system. Ten fermenters (1,223 ± 21 mL) were used in 2 simultaneous 5 × 5 Latin squares arrangement with 3 periods of 10 d each, with 7 d for diet adaptation and 3 d for sample collections. Each Latin square assigning either a low or high level of concentrate to beef cattle diets, with 5 specified treatments: Control: no additives; Blend 1: yeast culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), beta-glucans, fructooligosaccharides, galactooligosaccharides, and mannanoligosaccharides [1,600 mg/kg dry matter (DM)]; Blend 2: Beta-glucan and mannanoligosaccharide fractions from S. cerevisiae (1,600 mg/kg DM); Yeast Cells: hydrolyzed, inactivated, and spray-dried yeast cells (S. cerevisiae ; 2,133 mg/kg DM); monensin (25 mg/kg DM). On days 8, 9, and 10, samples of 500 mL of solid and liquid digesta effluent were mixed, homogenized, and stored at −20 °C. Subsamples of 10 mL were collected for later determination of ammonia nitrogen (NH3–N) and volatile fatty acids (VFA). Diets with high-concentrate showed higher organic matter (OM) digestibility but lower crude protein and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) digestibilities (P  < 0.01). There were no feed additive effects for DM, OM, and NDF digestibilities (P  > 0.05). Total VFA concentration and butyrate concentration were higher for the high-concentrate diet (P  < 0.01). Conversely, pH and concentrations of acetate and iso-butyrate were higher for the low-concentrate diet (P  < 0.01). Treatments with Blend 1, Blend 2, and Yeast Cells had higher VFA concentrations compared to the control (P  = 0.04). Blend 1 treatment exhibited higher propionate concentration in fermenters fed with a high-concentrate diet (P  < 0.01). In the high-concentrate diet, Blend 1 had a lower acetate: propionate ratio compared to Control, Yeast Cells, and Blend 2 treatments (P  < 0.01). The high-concentrate diet showed higher means for all other parameters: Microbial efficiency, N efficiency, N flow, and Bacterial N flow (P  < 0.01). Treatments with Blend 2 and Control showed higher rumen undegradable protein N flow compared to Yeast Cells and Blend 1 treatments (P  < 0.01).
