Search

What are local mental health systems capacities and capabilities in Colombia? With a particular focus on Territorially Focused Development Plans (PDETs in Spanish). This review will be informed by stakeholders such as patient representatives, clinicians, and policymakers. Stakeholders will contribute to defining the focus of most priority within the overarching research question and guide the interpretation of findings by developing implementation models to translate policy into practice and maximize the potential of mental health systems. • What is the legislative framework for mental health? • What professional groups are considered “mental health professionals”? • How are levels of care structured in Colombia to facilitate the delivery of care? (Map levels of care. E.g., community/Department/city)? • What mental health services are available (in theory)? • What prevention programmes/wellbeing programmes are available? • What is the national/regional/municipal budget for mental health? • Are budgets defined centrally / regionally? • What are state benefits offered to people with mental formally diagnosed health conditions? • What has subsidized healthcare offered to people with mental health problems? • What changed in the context of the pandemic? We will combine a synthesis of relevant policy with a consultation with stakeholders and experts (by experience and by profession) by conducting a Rapid Realist Review (RRR). We will follow the recommended stages for RRRs, which are: refining the scope of the review and review questions through consultation; articulating initial theories/hypotheses of context-mechanism-outcome configurations (i.e., models of what affects whom, how and in which contexts) by means of a preliminary policy exploration; conducting thorough searches of relevant evidence; extracting data; synthesizing findings and discussing them with experts to develop final models. Websites and documents we will search will include The Ministry of Health website; the National Department of Planning (Departamento Nacional de Planeacion in Spanish) website; the Congress website (law projects/”Proyectos de ley” section); the Constitution; Department of Social Prosperity (Departamento Nacional de Prosperidad Social in Spanish) website; local Departments of Health (Secretaria de Salud in Spanish) or local government websites of each PDET territory (171 municipalities in total). The searches will include words related to:  Mental health (e.g., Psychosocial; disability)  Mental health providers (e.g., psychiatrist; psychologists; therapist)  Mental health services (e.g., intervention; health provider)  Name of the different PDET regions (e.g., Caquetá; Magdalena; Sucre)  The beneficiary of services or benefits (e.g., service user; patient; victims of armed conflict)  Budget (e.g., subsidized plan; affordability)  Participants/population  People affected by mental health policies, including mental health service users, actors of the Colombian peace process, staff working in mental health or psychosocial rehabilitation. Intervention Official mental health/wellbeing policies, roadmaps and governmental programs or implementation strategies. Types of studies to be included. The following will be screened for eligibility for inclusion: • Laws currently in force. • Policies, projects, and programs currently in force. • Roadmaps (CONPES – “Consejo Nacional de Política Económica y Social”) • Currently applicable articles, press releases and blogs from official government institutions. • Most up to date technical and research reports, evaluations, surveys, and statistics from official government institutions. The following will be excluded: • Results from non-governmental sources. • Law, policies, and programs that are not currently in force. • Results not related to mental health/wellbeing. If the focus of the policy is not solely mental health/wellbeing, but it contains substantial data relevant to our research questions, these will also be included. Any relevant research documents identified in the searches will be checked for mention of policies that meet our inclusion criteria. Main outcomes The relevant outcome will be discussed with stakeholders before data extraction. Priority outcomes already identified through initial discussions answer the research questions outlined in the review questions section. Following the aims of Realist Reviews, we will look to develop context-mechanism-outcomes models (i.e., models of what affects whom, how and in which contexts). Data extraction Document screening will be conducted independently by different reviewers, with 100% of included and 25% of excluded documents checked by another reviewer. Data extraction will be conducted using an extraction form on Qualtrics or equivalent software. The extraction form will first be piloted on 10% of the included documents and necessary amendments made before extracted data from the remaining 90%. Data will be extracted by different reviewers and checked by a different member of the research team. Data that will be extracted will include basic information such as the date, title of the document, region/population it is directed to and government body it was issued by. Additional information will be extracted to respond to the research questions. Quality assessment The Rapid Realist review process requires feedback from a panel of stakeholders to reduce bias in the search process, the analysis of results, and the writing up of findings. In addition, the researchers will regularly meet to discuss interpretations of the data and to ensure consistency and reduce bias. Due to the nature of the documents being reviewed, and the realist review method being applied, it is not considered necessary to employ a quality appraisal tool to assess each document’s veracity. Data synthesis Conducting an RRR requires an ongoing synthesis of data. We will apply cycles of Collaborative Matrix Analysis (CMA) to synthesize emerging findings and use Rapid Research Evaluation and Appraisal Lab (RREAL) sheets to record emerging context, mechanisms, and outcomes from data revision and consultations. We expect policy documents will be lengthy, and therefore CMA analysis will be aided with text network analysis software when appropriate. This research method will allow for iterative data analysis and multidisciplinary team contribution. Consultations will be structured following a Theory of Change format to achieve the ultimate aim of RRRs of articulating programme theories (i.e., models of what works, for whom, how and in which contexts).

L’annonce du décès de Serge Moscovici, le 15 novembre 2014, a suscité dans la communauté scientifique, les milieux politiques et les médias une émotion qui s’est traduite par nombre de témoignages célébrant son œuvre multiple, son engagement social ou évoquant l’histoire vécue et la personnalité qui les ont étayés. Ces témoignages ont été épars et jusqu’à présent aucune vision synthétique n’a été offerte pour cerner la richesse des apports d’une pensée dont l’empan a couvert tous les champs des sciences humaines et sociales, ouvrant des perspectives innovantes pour la recherche. Pour honorer cette figure majeure des sciences humaines et sociales, la Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme a organisé, à l’initiative des fils de Serge Moscovici, un colloque international en 2017 à Paris qui a réuni des spécialistes internationaux des divers domaines auxquels cet auteur a dévolu son activité (psychologie sociale, écologie politique, sciences humaines et sociales). Le présent livre constitue une trace et un prolongement de cette initiative. Il comprend vingt textes de trente auteurs, issus de treize pays différents, influencés, marqués et inspirés par son œuvre singulière. Nous avons ajouté, en fin d’ouvrage, la reproduction d’un texte peu connu, rare et unique, l’exposé de soutenance de Serge Moscovici en 1961, ainsi que l’hommage appuyé qui lui a été rendu peu après son décès par le comité de direction du réseau international (REMOSCO) qu’il a créé, peu avant sa disparition, à la Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme à Paris.

The study aims to demonstrate how time and patterns of transmission and communication inscribe themselves in the internal organization of social representations. For this purpose, it presents a discussion of the role of the central core of representations in relation to continuity and change in ideas and public spheres. Jean-Claude Abric’s insights on the internal structure of representational fields contribute to the proposition of an expanded theory of the central core that rests on a dialogue with narrative theory, dialogicality and recent advances in the knowledge of cognitive polyphasia. In other words, the paper leads the reader into a socio-genetic approach to the central core, one that seeks to elucidate how the socio-cognitive organization of social representations is shaped and at the same time shapes continuity and change in public spheres.

This paper uses a multi-methods approach to explore the social psychological construction of stigma towards the unemployed. Study 1a uses thematic analysis to explore frames used by political elites in speeches at U.K. national party conferences between 1996 and 2016 (n = 43); in study 1b, we track the usage of these frames in six national newspapers (n = 167,723 articles) over the same period showing an increase in the use of negative frames. Study 1c shows that these are associated with national attitudes towards welfare recipients using the British Social Attitude Survey. We find the ‘Othering’ frame is correlated with negative attitudes towards the unemployed, even when controlling for the unemployment rate. This finding supports the claim that social attitudes are related to frames produced in the political and media spheres. We provide theoretical integration between social representations theory and framing which affords development in both domains.

Although children are born in a world of already established cultural practices and social representations, the appropriation and internalisation of culture is not a task of reproduction but one of imaginative construction. The cultural development of the child offers an empirical opportunity to examine the role of the imagination in the practices whereby human children enter culture. In this chapter we focus on three such practices – care, play, and storytelling – to observe the imagination at work. We start by revisiting understandings of the imagination and propose a positive view that sees it as the human capacity to go beyond the immediate situation and play with possible realities. We suggest that the interplay between presence and absence, grounded in the interactions between self and other established by culture, is the defining feature of the imagination. Drawing on our research on children’s representations of the public sphere we explore the complexity of children’s imagination and propose a typology of engagement with the absent: the not yet there, impinged by anticipation and desire; the nowhere, pertaining to the fictional and the fantastic; and the elsewhere, characterised by absent elements the child is aware of through direct or indirect experience. Throughout the chapter, we are guided by the question of how these types of engagement with absence, which are central to the imagination, play out in practices of care, play, and storytelling. This exploration helps us understand the imagination as both an engine and a consequence of development, central for the cognitive, emotional and cultural development of the child and for the development of culture itself. By imagining the world both as what it is and as different from the way it is, we show that 1) children’s imaginative engagement guides the micro-genesis of cognition and macro-processes of cultural development and 2) it establishes the freedom to create as a key process in the realisation of self and society.

Este é um livro que estuda padrões de sociabilidade e desenvolvimento social em favelas do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Ele examina como estas comunidades, apesar de difíceis condições de vida, pobreza e segregação, são capazes de mobilizar recursos locais para resistir à exclusão, lutar contra a marginalização e reescrever as relações entre as favelas e a cidade. Baseando-se em um estudo psicossocial de quatro favelas - Cantagalo, Madureira, Cidade de Deus e Vigário Geral - o livro traça as rotas de socialização nas favelas e sistematiza o trabalho das organizações AfroReggae e CUFA, analisando os determinantes institucionais e comportamentais de escolhas de vida nessas comunidades, a dinâmica da capacidade para a ação em contextos de privação e a origem de ações positivas para a mudança social. O livro mostra que os fatores individuais e sociais interagem para moldar as escolhas e tomadas de decisão nas rotas de socialização. In this paper we demonstrate that societal psychology makes a unique contribution to the study of change through its focus on the 'contextual politics' of change, examining the different interests at stake within any social context. Societal psychology explores the contexts which promote or inhibit social and societal change and can be seen as a bridge between social and political psychology. It focuses on how the context shapes the ways in which societal change is understood, supported or resisted. To understand the intellectual rationale of societal psychology, and how it aims to foster societal change, we first consider the history of the discipline. Second, we consider what is meant by 'context', as understanding the environment of change is the hallmark of societal psychology. Third, we lay out three distinct features of a societal psychological approach to change: the politics of change; interventions and planned change; emergent change processes. Finally, the paper examines possible future developments of societal psychology and its role in understanding and creating societal change, alongside its place within the wider canon of social and political psychology.
