The JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey (JADES) is a multi-cycle JWST program that has taken among the deepest near-/mid-infrared images to date (down to $\sim$30 ABmag) over $\sim$25 arcmin$^2$ in the GOODS-S field in two sets of observations with one year of separation. This presented the first opportunity to systematically search for transients, mostly supernovae (SNe), out to $z$$>$2. We found 79 SNe: 38 at $z$$<$2, 23 at 2$<$$z$$<$3, 8 at 3$<$$z$$<$4, 7 at 4$<$$z$$<$5, and 3 with undetermined redshifts, where the redshifts are predominantly based on spectroscopic or highly reliable JADES photometric redshifts of the host galaxies. At this depth, the detection rate is $\sim$1-2 per arcmin$^2$ per year, demonstrating the power of JWST as a supernova discovery machine. We also conducted multi-band follow-up NIRCam observations of a subset of the SNe to better constrain their light curves and classify their types. Here, we present the survey, sample, search parameters, spectral energy distributions (SEDs), light curves, and classifications. Even at $z$$\geq$2, the NIRCam data quality is high enough to allow SN classification via multi-epoch light-curve fitting with confidence. The multi-epoch SN sample includes a Type Ia SN at $z_{\mathrm{spec}}$$=$2.90, Type IIP SN at $z_{\mathrm{spec}}$$=$3.61, and a Type Ic-BL SN at $z_{\mathrm{spec}}$$=$2.845. We also found that two $z$$\sim$16 galaxy candidates from the first imaging epoch were actually transients that faded in the second epoch, illustrating the possibility that moderate/high-redshift SNe could mimic high-redshift dropout galaxies., Comment: 43 pages, 15 figures, 15 tables. We present a numerical analysis investigating the reliability of type Ia supernova (SN~Ia) delay-time distributions recovered from individual host galaxy star-formation histories. We utilize star-formation histories of mock samples of galaxies generated from the IllustrisTNG simulation at two redshifts to recover delay-time distributions. The delay-time distributions are constructed through piecewise constants as opposed to typically employed parametric forms such as power-laws or Gaussian or skew/log-normal functions. The SN~Ia delay-time distributions are recovered through a Markov Chain Monte Carlo exploration of the likelihood space by comparing the expected SN Ia rate within each mock galaxy to the observed rate. We show that a reduced representative sample of \emph{non-host} galaxies is sufficient to reliably recover delay-time distributions while simultaneously reducing the computational load. We also highlight a potential systematic between recovered delay-time distributions and the mass-weighted ages of the underlying host galaxy stellar population., Comment: Submitted to AAS Journals. We motivate the cosmological science case of measuring Type Ia supernovae with the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope as part of the High Latitude Time Domain Survey. We discuss previously stated requirements for the science, and a baseline survey strategy. We discuss the various areas that must still be optimized and point to the other white papers that consider these topics in detail. Overall, the baseline case should enable an exquisite measurement of dark energy using SNe Ia from z=0.1 to z>2, and further optimization should only strengthen this once-in-a-generation experiment.

Type-I Superluminous Supernovae (SLSNe) are an exotic class of core-collapse SN (CCSN) that can be up to 100 times brighter and more slowly-evolving than normal CCSNe. SLSNe represent the end-stages of the most massive stripped stars, and are thought to be powered by the spin-down energy of a millisecond magnetar. Studying them and measuring their physical parameters can help us to better understand stellar mass-loss, evolution, and explosions. Moreover, thanks to their high luminosities, SLSNe can be seen up to greater distances, allowing us to explore how stellar physics evolves as a function of redshift. The High Latitude Time Domain Survey (HLTDS) will provide us with an exquisite dataset that will discover 100s of SLSNe. Here, we focus on the question of which sets of filters and cadences will allow us to best characterize the physical parameters of these SLSNe. We simulate a set of SLSNe at redshifts ranging from z = 0.1 to z = 5.0, using six different sets of filters, and cadences ranging from 5 to 100 days. We then fit these simulated light curves to attempt to recover the input parameter values for their ejecta mass, ejecta velocity, magnetic field strength, and magnetar spin period. We find that four filters are sufficient to accurately characterize SLSNe at redshifts below $z = 3$, and that cadences faster than 20 days are required to obtain measurements with an uncertainty below 10\%, although a cadence of 70 days is still acceptable under certain conditions. Finally, we find that the nominal survey strategy will not be able to properly characterize the most distant SLSNe at $z = 5$. We present arguments for including observations with all of the Wide Field Instrument imaging filters, with the exception of F146, within the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (\emph{Roman}) High Latitude Time Domain Survey (HLTDS). The current reference High-latitude time domain survey increases the completeness of transients with prism temporal time series data by adjusting the ratio of prism-to-imaging time. However, there are two other nobs that allow for a more complete prism coverage: prism cadence and exposure time. In this white paper, we review five top considerations for selecting locations of the fields of the Roman High-latitude Time Domain Survey. Based on these considerations, we recommend Akari Deep Field South (ADFS)/Euclid Deep Field South (EDFS) in the Southern Hemisphere has it avoids bright stars, has minimal Milky Way dust, is in Roman Continuous viewing zone, overlaps with multiple past and future surveys, and minimal zodiacal background variation. We give an overview and describe the rationale, methods, and first results from NIRCam images of the JWST "Prime Extragalactic Areas for Reionization and Lensing Science" ("PEARLS") project. PEARLS uses up to eight NIRCam filters to survey several prime extragalactic survey areas: two fields at the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP); seven gravitationally lensing clusters; two high redshift proto-clusters; and the iconic backlit VV 191 galaxy system to map its dust attenuation. PEARLS also includes NIRISS spectra for one of the NEP fields and NIRSpec spectra of two high-redshift quasars. The main goal of PEARLS is to study the epoch of galaxy assembly, AGN growth, and First Light. Five fields, the JWST NEP Time-Domain Field (TDF), IRAC Dark Field (IDF), and three lensing clusters, will be observed in up to four epochs over a year. The cadence and sensitivity of the imaging data are ideally suited to find faint variable objects such as weak AGN, high-redshift supernovae, and cluster caustic transits. Both NEP fields have sightlines through our Galaxy, providing significant numbers of very faint brown dwarfs whose proper motions can be studied. Observations from the first spoke in the NEP TDF are public. This paper presents our first PEARLS observations, their NIRCam data reduction and analysis, our first object catalogs, the 0.9-4.5 $\mu$m galaxy counts and Integrated Galaxy Light. We assess the JWST sky brightness in 13 NIRCam filters, yielding our first constraints to diffuse light at 0.9-4.5 {\mu}m. We present results from simulating slitless spectroscopic observations with the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope's (Roman) Wide-Field Instrument (WFI) P127 prism spanning 0.75 $\mu m$ to 1.8 $\mu m$. We quantify the efficiency of recovered Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) redshifts, as a function of P127 prism exposure time, to guide planning for future observing programs with the Roman prism. Generating the two-dimensional dispersed images and extracting one-dimensional spectra is done with the slitless spectroscopy package pyLINEAR along with custom-written software. From the analysis of 1698 simulated SN Ia P127 prism spectra, we show the efficiency of recovering SN redshifts to $z\lesssim3.0$, highlighting the exceptional sensitivity of the Roman P127 prism. Redshift recovery is assessed by setting a requirement of $\sigma_z = (\left|z - z_\mathrm{true} \right|)/(1+z) \leq 0.01$. We find that 3 hr exposures are sufficient for meeting this requirement, for $\gtrsim 50\%$ of the sample of mock SNe Ia at $z\approx2$ and within $\pm5$ days of rest-frame maximum light in the optical. We also show that a 1 hr integration of Roman can achieve the same precision in completeness to a depth of $24.4 \pm 0.06$ AB mag (or $z\lesssim 1$). NASA will launch the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (Roman) in the second half of this decade, which will allow for a generation-defining measurement of dark energy through multiple probes, including Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). To improve decisions on survey strategy, we have created the first simulations of realistic Roman images that include artificial SNe Ia injected as point sources in the images. Our analysis combines work done on Roman simulations for weak gravitational lensing studies as well as catalog-level simulations of SN samples. We have created a time series of images over two years containing $\sim$ 1,050 SNe Ia, covering a 1 square degree subarea of a planned 5 square degree deep survey. We have released these images publicly for community use along with input catalogs of all injected sources. We create secondary products from these images by generating coadded images and demonstrating recovery of transient sources using image subtraction. We perform first-use analyses on these images in order to measure galaxy-detection efficiency, point source-detection efficiency, and host-galaxy association biases. We present new estimates of the luminosity function (LF) and star formation rate density (SFRD) for an H$\alpha$ selected sample at $z\sim0.62$ from the Deep And Wide Narrow-band (DAWN) survey. Our results are based on a new H$\alpha$ sample in the extended COSMOS region (compared to Coughlin et al. 2018) with the inclusion of flanking fields, resulting in a total area coverage of $\sim$1.5 deg$^2$. A total of 241 H$\alpha$ emitters were selected based on robust selection criteria using spectro-photometric redshifts and broadband color-color classification. We explore the effect of different dust correction prescriptions by calculating the LF and SFRD using a constant dust extinction correction, A{$_{\textrm{H}\alpha}=1$} mag, a luminosity-dependent correction, and a stellar-mass dependent correction. The resulting H$\alpha$ LFs are well fitted using Schechter functions with best-fit parameters: L$^*=10^{42.24}$ erg s$^{-1}$, $\phi^*=10^{-2.85}$ Mpc$^{-3}$, $\alpha = -1.62$ for constant dust correction, L$^*=10^{42.31}$ erg s$^{-1}$, $\phi^*=10^{-2.8}$ Mpc$^{-3}$, $\alpha=-1.39$ for luminosity-dependent dust correction, and L$^*=10^{42.36}$ erg s$^{-1}$, $\phi^*=10^{-2.91}$ Mpc$^{-3}$, $\alpha = -1.48$, for stellar mass-dependent dust correction. The deep and wide nature of the DAWN survey effectively samples H$\alpha$ emitters over a wide range of luminosities, thereby providing better constraints on both the faint and bright end of the LF. Also, the SFRD estimates $\rho_{\textrm{SFR}}=10^{-1.39}$ M$_{\odot}$yr$^{-1}$Mpc$^{-3}$ (constant dust correction), $\rho_{\textrm{SFR}}=10^{-1.47}$ M$_{\odot}$yr$^{-1}$Mpc$^{-3}$ (luminosity-dependent dust correction), and $\rho_{\textrm{SFR}}=10^{-1.49}$ M$_{\odot}$yr$^{-1}$Mpc$^{-3}$ (stellar mass-dependent dust correction) are in good agreement with the evolution of SFRD across redshifts ($0 < z < 2$) seen from previous H$\alpha$ surveys., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures, Accepted for publication in ApJ

We investigate the accuracy of 4000\AA/Balmer-break based redshifts by combining Hubble Space Telescope ({\it HST}) grism data with photometry. The grism spectra are from the Probing Evolution And Reionization Spectroscopically (PEARS) survey with {\it HST} using the G800L grism on the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS). The photometric data come from a compilation by the 3D-HST collaboration of imaging from multiple surveys (notably CANDELS and 3D-HST). We show evidence that spectrophotometric redshifts (SPZs) typically improve the accuracy of photometric redshifts by $\sim$17--60\%. Our SPZ method is a template fitting based routine which accounts for correlated data between neighboring points within grism spectra via the covariance matrix formalism and also accounts for galaxy morphology along the dispersion direction. We show that the robustness of the SPZ is directly related to the fidelity of the D4000 measurement. We also estimate the accuracy of continuum-based redshifts, i.e., for galaxies that do not contain strong emission lines, based on the grism data alone ($\sigma^{\rm NMAD}_{\Delta z/(1+z)}{\lesssim}0.06$). Given that future space-based observatories like WFIRST and Euclid will spend a significant fraction of time on slitless spectroscopic observations, we estimate number densities for objects with $\ | \mathrm{\Delta z/(1+z_{s})} \ | \leq 0.02$. We predict $\sim$700--4400 galaxies/degree$^2$ for galaxies with D4000$>$1.1 and $\ | \mathrm{\Delta z/(1+z_{s})} \ | \leq 0.02$ to a limiting depth of $i_{AB}$=24 mag. This is \emph{especially} important in the absence of an accompanying rich photometric dataset like the existing one for the CANDELS fields, where redshift accuracy from future surveys will rely only on the presence of a feature like the 4000\AA/Balmer breaks or the presence of emission lines within the grism spectra., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures. We present optical IFU observations of the Taffy system (UGC 12914/15); named for the radio emission that stretches between the two galaxies. Given that these gas rich galaxies are believed to have recently collided head-on, the pair exhibits a surprisingly normal total (sub-LIRG) IR luminosity ($\mathrm{L_{FIR} \sim 4.5 \times 10^{10}}$ L$_\odot$). Previous observations have demonstrated that a large quantity of molecular and neutral gas have been drawn out of the galaxies into a massive multi-phase bridge. We present, for the first time, spatially resolved spectroscopy of the ionized gas in the system. The results show that the ionized gas is highly disturbed kinematically, with gas spread in two main filaments between the two galaxies. The line profiles exhibit widespread double components in both the bridge and parts of the disks of the galaxies. We investigate the spatial distribution of the excitation properties of the ionized gas using emission-line diagnostic diagrams, and conclude that large quantities (up to 40$\%$) of the emission from the entire system is consistent with gas heated in $\sim$200 \kms\ shocks. While the shocked gas is mainly associated with the bridge, there is a significant amount of shocked gas associated with both galaxies. Confirming other multi-wavelength indicators, the results suggest that the effects of shocks and turbulence can continue to be felt in a high-speed galaxy collision long after the collision has occurred. The persistence of shocks in the Taffy system may explain the relatively low current star formation rates in the system as a whole., Comment: 19 pages, 13 figures. Accepted for publication in ApJ

We use both photometric and spectroscopic data from the {\it Hubble Space Telescope} to explore the relationships among 4000 \AA\ break (D4000) strength, colors, stellar masses, and morphology, in a sample of 352 galaxies with log$(M_{*}/M_{\odot}) > 9.44$ at 0.6 $\lesssim z \lesssim$ 1.2. We have identified authentically quiescent galaxies in the $UVJ$ diagram based on their D4000 strengths. This spectroscopic identification is in good agreement with their photometrically-derived specific star formation rates (sSFR). Morphologically, most (that is, 66 out of 68 galaxies, $\sim$ 97 \%) of these newly identified quiescent galaxies have a prominent bulge component. However, not all of the bulge-dominated galaxies are quenched. We found that bulge-dominated galaxies show positive correlations among the D4000 strength, stellar mass, and the S\'ersic index, while late-type disks do not show such strong positive correlations. Also, bulge-dominated galaxies are clearly separated into two main groups in the parameter space of sSFR vs. stellar mass and stellar surface density within the effective radius, $\Sigma_{\rm e}$, while late-type disks and irregulars only show high sSFR. This split is directly linked to the `blue cloud' and the `red sequence' populations, and correlates with the associated central compactness indicated by $\Sigma_{\rm e}$. While star-forming massive late-type disks and irregulars (with D4000 $<$ 1.5 and log$(M_{*}/M_{\odot}) \gtrsim 10.5$) span a stellar mass range comparable to bulge-dominated galaxies, most have systematically lower $\Sigma_{\rm e}$ $\lesssim$ $10^{9}M_{\odot}\rm{kpc^{-2}}$. This suggests that the presence of a bulge is a necessary but not sufficient requirement for quenching at intermediate redshifts., Comment: 23 pages, 11 figures, and 3 tables. We present the results from the application of a two-dimensional emission line detection method, EMission-line two-Dimensional (EM2D), to the near-infrared G102 grism observations obtained with the Wide-Field Camera 3 (WFC3) as part of the Cycle 22 {\em Hubble Space Telescope} Treasury Program: the Faint Infrared Grism Survey (FIGS). Using the EM2D method, we have assembled a catalog of emission line galaxies (ELGs) with resolved star formation from each of the four FIGS fields. Not only can one better assess the global properties of ELGs, but the EM2D method allows for the analysis and an improved study of the individual emission-line region {\it within} each galaxy. This paper includes a description of the methodology, advantages, and the first results of the EM2D method applied to ELGs in FIGS. The advantage of 2D emission line measurements includes significant improvement of galaxy redshift measurements, approaching the level of accuracy seen in high-spectral-resolution data, but with greater efficiency; and the ability to identify and measure the properties of multiple sites of star-formation and over scales of $\sim$ 1 kpc within individual galaxies out to z $\sim$ 4. The EM2D method also significantly improves the reliability of high-redshift ($z\sim7$) Lyman-$\alpha$ detections. Coupled with the wide field of view and high efficiency of space-based grism observations, EM2D provides a noteworthy improvement on the physical parameters that can be extracted from grism observations., Comment: Accepted by ApJ

We constrain the stellar population properties of a sample of 52 massive galaxies, with stellar mass log Ms>10.5, over the redshift range 0.5

We improve the accuracy of photometric redshifts by including low-resolution spectral data from the G102 grism on the Hubble Space Telescope, which assists in redshift determination by further constraining the shape of the broadband Spectral Energy Disribution (SED) and identifying spectral features. The photometry used in the redshift fits includes near-IR photometry from FIGS+CANDELS, as well as optical data from ground-based surveys and HST ACS, and mid-IR data from Spitzer. We calculated the redshifts through the comparison of measured photometry with template galaxy models, using the EAZY photometric redshift code. For objects with F105W $< 26.5$ AB mag with a redshift range of $0 < z < 6$, we find a typical error of $\Delta z = 0.03 * (1+z)$ for the purely photometric redshifts; with the addition of FIGS spectra, these become $\Delta z = 0.02 * (1+z)$, an improvement of 50\%. Addition of grism data also reduces the outlier rate from 8\% to 7\% across all fields. With the more-accurate spectrophotometric redshifts (SPZs), we searched the FIGS fields for galaxy overdensities. We identified 24 overdensities across the 4 fields. The strongest overdensity, matching a spectroscopically identified cluster at $z=0.85$, has 28 potential member galaxies, of which 8 have previous spectroscopic confirmation, and features a corresponding X-ray signal. Another corresponding to a cluster at $z=1.84$ has 22 members, 18 of which are spectroscopically confirmed. Additionally, we find 4 overdensities that are detected at an equal or higher significance in at least one metric to the two confirmed clusters., Comment: 17 pages, 13 figures. To appear in ApJ

The Faint Infrared Grism Survey (FIGS) is a deep Hubble Space Telescope (HST) WFC3/IR (Wide Field Camera 3 Infrared) slitless spectroscopic survey of four deep fields. Two fields are located in the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey-North (GOODS-N) area and two fields are located in the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey-South (GOODS-S) area. One of the southern fields selected is the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. Each of these four fields were observed using the WFC3/G102 grism (0.8$\mu m$-1.15$\mu m$ continuous coverage) with a total exposure time of 40 orbits (~ 100 kilo-seconds) per field. This reaches a 3 sigma continuum depth of ~26 AB magnitudes and probes emission lines to $\approx 10^{-17}\ erg\ s^{-1} \ cm^{-2}$. This paper details the four FIGS fields and the overall observational strategy of the project. A detailed description of the Simulation Based Extraction (SBE) method used to extract and combine over 10000 spectra of over 2000 distinct sources brighter than m_F105W=26.5 mag is provided. High fidelity simulations of the observations is shown to significantly improve the background subtraction process, the spectral contamination estimates, and the final flux calibration. We directly measure the thermal energy of the gas surrounding galaxies through the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (tSZ) effect. We perform a stacking analysis of microwave background images from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope, around 1179 massive quiescent elliptical galaxies at 0.5 <= z <= 1.0 ('low-z') and 3274 galaxies at 1.0 <= z <= 1.5 ('high-z'), selected using data from the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer All-Sky Survey and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) within the SDSS Stripe-82 field. The gas surrounding these galaxies is expected to contain energy from past episodes of active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback, and after using modeling to subtract undetected contaminants, we detect a tSZ signal at a significance of 0.9-sigma for our low-z galaxies and 1.8-sigma for our high-z galaxies. We then include data from the high-frequency Planck bands for a subset of 227 low-z galaxies and 529 high-z galaxies and find low-z and high-z tSZ detections of 1.0-sigma and 1.5-sigma, respectively. These results indicate an average thermal heating around these galaxies of 5.6(+5.9/-5.6) x 10^60 erg for our low-z galaxies and 7.0(+4.7/-4.4) x 10^60 erg for our high-z galaxies. SPHEREx is a proposed SMEX mission selected for Phase A. SPHEREx will carry out the first all-sky spectral survey and provide for every 6.2" pixel a spectra between 0.75 and 4.18 $\mu$m [with R$\sim$41.4] and 4.18 and 5.00 $\mu$m [with R$\sim$135]. The SPHEREx team has proposed three specific science investigations to be carried out with this unique data set: cosmic inflation, interstellar and circumstellar ices, and the extra-galactic background light. It is readily apparent, however, that many other questions in astrophysics and planetary sciences could be addressed with the SPHEREx data. The SPHEREx team convened a community workshop in February 2016, with the intent of enlisting the aid of a larger group of scientists in defining these questions. This paper summarizes the rich and varied menu of investigations that was laid out. It includes studies of the composition of main belt and Trojan/Greek asteroids; mapping the zodiacal light with unprecedented spatial and spectral resolution; identifying and studying very low-metallicity stars; improving stellar parameters in order to better characterize transiting exoplanets; studying aliphatic and aromatic carbon-bearing molecules in the interstellar medium; mapping star formation rates in nearby galaxies; determining the redshift of clusters of galaxies; identifying high redshift quasars over the full sky; and providing a NIR spectrum for most eROSITA X-ray sources. All of these investigations, and others not listed here, can be carried out with the nominal all-sky spectra to be produced by SPHEREx. In addition, the workshop defined enhanced data products and user tools which would facilitate some of these scientific studies. Energetic feedback due to active galactic nuclei (AGN) is likely to play an important role in the observed anti-hierarchical trend in the evolution of galaxies, and yet the energy injected into the circumgalactic medium by this process is largely unknown. One promising approach to constrain this feedback is through measurements of CMB spectral distortions due to the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (tSZ) effect, whose magnitude is directly proportional to the energy input by AGN. Here we co-add South Pole Telescope SZ (SPT-SZ) survey data around a large set of massive quiescent elliptical galaxies at z >= 0.5. We use data from the Blanco Cosmology Survey and VISTA Hemisphere Survey to create a large catalog of galaxies split up into two redshift bins, with 3394 galaxies at 0.5 <= z <= 1.0 and 924 galaxies at 1.0 <= z <= 1.5, with typical stellar masses of 1.5 x 10^11 M_Sun. We then co-add the emission around these galaxies, resulting in a measured tSZ signal at 2.2 sigma significance for the lower redshift bin and a contaminating signal at 1.1 sigma for the higher redshift bin. To remove contamination due to dust emission, we use SPT-SZ source counts to model a contaminant source population in both the SPT-SZ bands and Planck high-frequency bands for a subset of 937 low-redshift galaxies and 240 high-redshift galaxies. This increases our detection to 3.6 sigma for low redshifts and 0.9 sigma for high redshifts. We find the mean angularly-integrated Compton-y values to be 2.2 (-0.7+0.9) x 10^-7 Mpc^2 for low redshifts and 1.7 (-1.8+2.2) x 10^-7 Mpc^2 for high redshifts, corresponding to total thermal energies of 7.6 (-2.3+3.0) x 10^60 ergs and 6.0 (-6.3+7.7) x 10^60 ergs, respectively. These numbers are higher than expected from simple theoretical models that do not include AGN feedback, and serve as constraints that can be applied to current simulations of massive galaxy formation. We present new measurements of the Hα luminosity function (LF) and star formation rate (SFR) volume density for galaxies at z∼0.62 in the COSMOS field. Our results are part of the Deep And Wide Narrow-band Survey (DAWN), a unique infrared imaging program with large areal coverage (∼1.1 deg2 over five fields) and sensitivity (9.9 x 10(exp -18) erg cm(exp -2) s(exp -1) at 5σ). The present sample, based on a single DAWN field, contains 116 Hα emission line candidates at z∼0.62, 25% of which have spectroscopic confirmations. These candidates have been selected through the comparison of narrow and broad-band images in the infrared and through matching with existing catalogs in the COSMOS field. The dust-corrected LF is well described by a Schechter function with L* = 10 (exp 42.64 +/- 0.92) erg s (exp −1), Phi* = 10 (exp -3.320.93)Mpc(exp −3), L*Phi* = L 10(exp 39.40) 0.15 erg s(exp −1)Mpc(exp −3), and α=−1.75+/-0.09. From this LF, we calculate a SFR density of ρSFR=10(exp −1.37+/-0.08)solar mass yr(exp −1)Mpc(exp −3). We expect an additional cosmic variance uncertainty of ∼20%. Both the faint end slope and luminosity density that we derive are consistent with prior results at similar redshifts, with reduced uncertainties. We also present an analysis of these Hα emitters' sizes, which shows a direct correlation between the galaxies' sizes and their Hα emission.
