The numerical and experimental investigation of multijunction superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) based on intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJs) in order to improve the flux to voltage transfer coefficient is reported.

The investigation of the characteristics of the magnetometer based on the superconducting quantum interference grating (SQIG) consisting of multiple high-[T.sub.c] grain-boundary Josephson junction showed the estimated white magnetic flux noise of the SGIG to be lower than that of the conventional SQUID by one order of magnitude.

The new exploration of spontaneous symmetry breaking in non-adiabatic phase transitions in Zurek-Kibble (ZK) process mimicked in solid state systems by trapping of magnetic flux quanta, fluxons, in a long annular Josephson tunnel junction quenched through the normal-superconducting transition is reported.

The various limits for the values of the shunt inductor and capacitor for highly hysteretic, tunnel-like Y[Ba.sub.2][Cu.sub.3][O.sub.7-[delta]] grain boundary Josephson junction is discussed.

A new methodology for designing large-scale single-flux-quantum (SFQ) circuits using passive-transmission-line (PTL) consisting of about 20,000 logic cells which approximates to more than 400,000 Josephson junctions including splitters to distribute the clock signal is presented.

The signal and noise characteristics of frequency-selective and broadband Josephson detectors based on [001]-tilt and [100]-tilt grain-boundary junctions which could be employed for various terahertz application such as real-time spectral analysis of continuous or pulsed radiation sources and terahertz imaging for medical and security screening is presented.

The experimental and theoretical investigation of the microwave-induced zero-current-crossing steps of BSCCO intrinsic Josephson junctions shows that the step voltage is produced by a Josephson current with high harmonics of the microwave frequency and the inverse ac Josephson effect.

The investigation of structure and the composition of a newly fabricated ramp-edge Josephson junction by using Cu-poor precursory layer suggest that the superconductivity of the barrier neighborhood is improved by using the Cu-poor precursor process.

High quality Mg[B.sub.2]/insulator/Pb Josephson tunnel junction with two different barriers fabricated by using Mg[B.sub.2] films grown by hybrid physical -chemical vapor deposition which shows a promising potential for device fabrications are reported.

The observations of macroscopic quantum tunneling and energy level quantization in Y[Ba.sub.2][Cu.sub.3][O.sub.7]-[delta] (YBCO)-based grain boundary (GB) biepitaxial Josephson junctions which could help to understand the mechanism involved in transport across grain boundaries is reported.

The investigation of the current density dependence of subharmonic gap structures in NbN tunnel junctions revealed that the tunnel barrier in NbN junctions is inhomogeneous due to a small number of 'thinner' regions with high transparency.

The fabrication of vertical stacks of up to five NbN/TiNx/NbN junctions which were fabricated by employing an inductively coupled plasma etching technique is reported.

The fabrication of sandwich type Mg[B.sub.2] Josephson junctions by using an Nb thin film as the counter electrode which reveal current modulation periodically in response to an applied magnetic filed is reported.
