17. Effect of T-tail on the Aerodynamic Characteristics and Static Stability of an Aircraft – A Computational Analysis

Abstract

It is the purpose of this paper to find out the effect of T-tail on Aerodynamic characteristics and static stability of an aircraft. A T-tail aircraft with a configuration of tail with the horizontal stabilizer placed above the vertical stabilizer. Typically, a tail configuration in T shape. T- tail configuration is proposed with a goal of enhancing stability and controllability during high angle of attack and low speeds. Data is presented from a series of XFLR5 analysis to qualify the aerodynamic effect of T-tail over a range of angle of attack from -150 to +150. Various graphs were obtained during this analysis which indicates that the T-tail configuration can perform better at low speeds.

Abstract

The continuous advancement of modern technology enables its users to engage in various interactions in the online public sphere, including conversations about multiple ideas and perspectives. It has now played a significant role in our modern society, paving the door for several participatory cultures and social movements such as the so-called cancel culture. Even if this movement aims to call out individuals or businesses, it has undoubtedly encouraged mob mentality and damaged civil dialogue, ultimately driving them out of the community. Thus, this study looked at the diverse experiences of victims of cancel culture and how it influenced their social and personal lives. It reveals that the victims suffered a backlash, public humiliation, and cyberbullying that harmed their mental health. This study has established that cancel culture is an example of online abuse and has become more commonplace in the online public realm, rendering social media sites less of a safe haven.

Abstract

Background: Access to housing for people with intellectual disabilities is often constrained by lack of choice, control and can often be inappropriate or unsafe. To enable people to remain at home and participate in their occupations, a collation and review of theories and models supporting good home environment design offers a view from which practice could be advanced. Method: A scoping review was used to map the literature on theories and models on home environmental designing, which can have influence on the occupational performance and participation of people with intellectual disabilities. The theories and models found were analysed using the lens of the Person-Environment-Occupation-Performance model. Results: Four themes supporting the understanding of environmental home design that can influence participation and well-being were found. These were offering safety and comfort; providing control and choice to manage stress; offering skill acquisition for continued learning and interest; and the person–environment interaction for function and participation. The themes are discussed in relation to participation in occupation and well-being for people with intellectual disabilities. Conclusion: The study contributes knowledge to practitioners and stakeholders on theories and models of home environment design which could support the occupational performance, participation and well-being of people with intellectual disabilities. Abstract

Generally, the majority of the work forces in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) are facing mental health problems that result from the failure of the employers, the government, and other stakeholders to put in place mental health awareness programs aimed at promoting mental wellbeing at the workplace. We aim to conduct a scoping review to systematically map the research that has been done in this area, as well as to identify any existing gaps in knowledge. We will conduct a comprehensive search strategy for the articles published between 2000 and 2022; this is aimed at giving readers a sense of the current state of research on the topic. The search for randomized control trials, non-randomized control trials, systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and observational studies that report evidence on mental health awareness programs that promote wellbeing among the workforce in LMICs will be adopted. We will search the MEDLINE/PubMed, Ebscohost, Wiley online library, Cohraine, and JSTOR and psych to get the relevant studies to include in the study. The principal investigator and one external person will independently screen search outputs, select studies extract data, and assess the risk of bias. . We will assess the reporting and methodological quality of the included studies and conduct a quantitative summary of reported outcomes where appropriate. Currently, there are important gaps in our knowledge on mental health awareness programs aimed at promoting mental wellbeing among workers in LMICs. The review will allow us to document evidence across a broad range of these awareness programs thus improving on the knowledge gap

29. Causal Relationship Between the Risk Factors and Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders Among Professional Drivers: A Systematic Review.

Abstract

Objective: This review evaluates the evidence on the strength of causal relationship between categories of risk factors (RFs) and work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) among professional drivers. Background: A compilation of evidence on the causal relationship between RFs and WRMSDs among professional drivers is lacking. Methods: A systematic search of the literature was conducted in major electronic data bases that include Medline (1946 + via OvidSP), Embase (1974 + OvidSP), CINAHL (1982+), AMED, and Web of Science. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed and scored. A descriptive analysis on the categories of RFs associated with WRMSDs was conducted. The Bradford–Hill causation criteria and evidence interpretation tool were used to evaluate the causal relationship between RFs and WRMSDs in professional drivers. Results: Among the 54 studies reviewed, a strong evidence suggests a causal relationship between RFs such as whole-body vibration, awkward postures, lifting tasks, manual material handling, job stress, job demand, and previous pain episodes with WRMSDs. Moderate evidence was observed on RFs such as uncomfortable seat and low job satisfaction. The evidence on causal relationship between RFs such as years of professional driving, driving duration, and individual characteristics such as age and body mass index was inconclusive. Conclusion: There is strong to moderate evidence on the causal relationship between the physical and psychosocial RFs and WRMSDs among professional drivers. Application: Potential application of this review highlights evidence to occupational health practitioners, policy makers, and stakeholders on the strength of causal relationship between RFs and WRMSDs among professional drivers. Abstract

Thermal threshold testing is important for evaluating the thermal function of small-fibre nerve types C and A-delta. This study investigated the reliability and validity of a novel nerve testing device (NNTD) in evaluating thermal detection and thermal pain thresholds. Test-retest reliability of the NNTD and its concurrent validity compared to the current technology (Medoc TSA-2, Advanced Thermosensory Stimulator, Israel) were investigated among 10 healthy participants. Each participant was tested for the warm detection threshold (WDT), cold detection threshold (CDT), hot pain threshold (HPT) and cold pain threshold (CPT) on the medial forearm with NNTD for two trials and the Medoc TSA-2 for one trial over two consecutive days. Intraclass Correlation Coefficient values, Standard Error of Measurement and Bland Altman plots were calculated for test-retest reliability. One-way ANOVA and Bland Altman plots were calculated for validity. The test-retest reliability of the NNTD was good for CPT (ICC = 0.88), moderate for WDT (ICC = 0.545) and HPT (ICC = 0.710). The NNTD was valid for both trials of HPT and CPT and one trial for WDT compared to the Medoc TSA-2. In conclusion, the NNTD showed good to moderate reliability and was found to be valid compared to the Medoc TSA-2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The recently made available ClearView® tetrazolium salt-based gel dosimeter, encapsulated in a vial, was tested to determine feasibility in use as an end-to-end dosimeter for stereotactic radiosurgery commissioning and quality assurance. A fabricated adaptor enabled direct attachment of the gel vial lid to a rod extension. The rod was inserted into a water-filled head phantom at the open neck location and locked into position. Once quality assurance testing of the linear accelerator was completed, a stereotactic plan was deployed. Optical scanning software enabled a direct comparison of the measured positional isocenter and dose distribution to the intended plan. Delivery accuracy was verified as line-dose profile plots of measured data coincide with the planned dose location and distribution. It has been demonstrated here that ClearView® gel contained in a vial is a suitable dosimeter for verifying stereotactic radiation therapy delivery accuracy. The end-to-end testing provided is geared to work identically for any small field study, including stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, and three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy.

48. Improved respiratory characteristics in non-specific low back pain: Comparison of Feldenkrais method versus routine physiotherapy.

Abstract

PURPOSE: Abnormal breathing patterns, decrease in respiratory muscle strength and endurance are some of the alterations, which are observed in non-specific low back pain (NS-LBP). The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of the Feldenkrais method (FM) on respiratory muscle strength, Maximum Voluntary Ventilation (MVV), Total Faulty Breathing Scale (TFBS), Cloth Tape Measure (CTM) and core stability among NS-LBP participants. METHODS: Participants were recruited from a rehabilitation clinic and randomized either to experimental group (EG) or the control group (CG). For the EG (FM and routine physiotherapy), and for the CG routine physiotherapy alone were carried out three days per week over a period of 8 weeks. Outcome measures including Respiratory Muscle Strength, MVV, TFBS, Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), CTM, and Pressure biofeedback device (PBU) were evaluated at baseline and 8 weeks. RESULTS: Forty participants were assigned to an EG (n = 20) and CG (n = 20) based on the study criteria. There was a significant increase in inspiratory muscle strength (MIP) (p = 0.004) for the EG, but no significant change in the CG (p = 0.455). There was also a significant increase in the expiratory muscle strength (MEP) for the EG (p = 0.001), but no changes in the CG (p = 0.574). In addition, decrease in pain, increase in xiphoid process chest expansion and improvement in core stability were observed in EG and improvement in MVV was observed in CG.
