17. Over two decades of research on choice overload: An overview and research agenda.

Abstract

Since Alwin Toffler coined the term choice overload in 1970, no systematic literature review has been conducted on this subject. At the same time, the three meta‐analytic studies available on the topic does not provide a comprehensive picture of the same. This systematic literature review seeks to critically evaluate the extant research on choice overload for 22 years using insights from 92 articles. After locating the major articles in the choice overload literature, we identified the theories used by researchers to explain the various aspects of choice overload, based on the TCCM framework. We then enlisted the contexts where the studies had been conducted, the characteristics (themes) of the studies, and the methodologies used in these articles. We further identified the relationships between the themes, the variables studied so far, the sampling types and sampling sizes and the statistical tools employed in these studies. Future researchers could investigate the impact of a variety of cognitive and affective factors that impact consumer psychological states and the likelihood of choice saturation. They could also focus on unexplored areas in the field of choice overload, such as comparing the effects of choice overload in physical and online contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This pioneering study wishes to advance our knowledge regarding consumers' motivating, inhibiting, and trust factors influencing their purchase of non‐fungible tokens (NFTs). Employing an extended valence framework (EVF), the authors investigate the role of the marketplace trust, marketplace reputation, and perceived regulatory support in addition to the benefits and risks of the new NFT technology; in eliciting a purchase intention for NFTs. A survey of 358 NFT enthusiasts is conducted to empirically test the EVF using the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique (study 1). Further, an experimental inquiry using a 3 × 3 between‐subjects design (study 2) is performed on actual NFT consumers to investigate the relative effectiveness of the focused benefits (value appreciation vs. exclusivity vs. enjoyment) and the brand extension (original product vs. near‐extension product vs. far‐extension product) in leading to positive outcomes like purchase intention and the price willing to pay for the NFTs. In addition to suggesting a comprehensive and useful framework for examining the psychological determinants of an individual's purchase intention for NFTs (study 1), the study 2 outcomes contribute significantly to future scholars and marketers by guiding them in designing effective benefits message appeals to the buyers in promoting their NFTs for original as well as brand extension products. The results recommend that NFT marketers focus on the exclusivity benefits of the NFTs for higher willingness to pay among the users while signaling value appreciation benefits shall evoke the highest purchase intention among the three benefit message appeals. Abstract

Management of shoulder pathologies involves measurement of range of motion (ROM) as well as assessing the quality and efficiency of that motion using different clinical tests. This work describes the preliminary results of using a smart watch to capture the direction of movement, velocity and ROM of the shoulder joint. ROM is the available amount of movement of a joint in different directions which can be either passive, active or active assisted. With the collected dataset and the proposed method, ROM could be estimated with a 9° error. Shoulder function or motion identification was validated by two different methods: i) rule engine and ii) machine learning approach. Rule base engine method was able to successfully identify the motions with accuracy of 91.94% and ML method with 10-Fold Validation reported a best performance of 94.17%. Proposed method, currently tested for some active motions of the shoulder, has the potential to be a very useful assist in quantifying and monitoring rehabilitation of the shoulder joint in multiple clinical situations.

Abstract

A new series of viologen linked pyrene conjugates with the general formula [PYL.sub.n][V.sup.2} having a different number of methylene spacer units (Ln) was synthesized and investigated with the objective of developing efficient DNA oxidizing agents. The results show that the pyrene moiety in these molecules constitutes an interesting variation and plays a major role in controlling the electron-transfer pathways, which lead to the efficient photooxidation of DNA.

The one-electron oxidation of a series of DNA oligonucleotides was examined. Each oligomer contains a covalently linked anthraquinone (AQ) group and irradiation of the AQ group with near-UV light results in a one-electron oxidation of the DNA that generates a radical cation and these holes or traps are sufficient to permit a qualitative prediction of reactivity.

A novel bifunctional acridine-acridinium conjugates with varying polymethylene spacer groups were synthesized and their DNA interactions were investigated using various biophysical techniques. The results demonstrate that these novel water-soluble system that exhibit quantitative fluorescence yields, chromophore-selective electron transfer.
