Purpose: Traditional CT acquisition planning is based on scout projection images from planar anterior-posterior and lateral projections where the radiographer estimates organ locations. Alternatively, a new scout method utilizing ultra-low dose helical CT (3D Landmark Scan) offers cross-sectional imaging to identify anatomic structures in conjunction with artificial intelligence based Anatomic Landmark Detection (ALD) for automatic CT acquisition planning. The purpose of this study is to quantify changes in scan length and radiation dose of CT examinations planned using 3D Landmark Scan and ALD and performed on next generation wide volume CT versus examinations planned using traditional scout methods. We additionally aim to quantify changes in radiation dose reduction of scans planned with 3D Landmark Scan and performed on next generation wide volume CT. Methods: Single-center retrospective analysis of consecutive patients with prior CT scan of the same organ who underwent clinical CT using 3D Landmark Scan and automatic scan planning. Acquisition length and dose-length-product (DLP) were collected. Data was analyzed by paired t-tests. Results: 104 total CT examinations (48.1 % chest, 15.4 % abdomen, 36.5 % chest/abdomen/pelvis) on 61 individual consecutive patients at a single center were retrospectively analyzed. 79.8 % of scans using 3D Landmark Scan had reduction in acquisition length compared to the respective prior acquisition. Median acquisition length using 3D Landmark Scan was 26.7 mm shorter than that using traditional scout methods (p < 0.001) with a 23.3 % median total radiation dose reduction (245.6 (IQR 150.0–400.8) mGy cm vs 320.3 (IQR 184.1–547.9) mGy cm). CT dose index similarly was overall decreased for scans planned with 3D Landmark and ALD and performed on next generation CT versus traditional methods (4.85 (IQR 3.8–7) mGy vs. 6.70 (IQR 4.43–9.18) mGy, respectively, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Scout imaging using reduced dose 3D Landmark Scan images and Anatomic Landmark Detection reduces acquisition range in chest, abdomen, and chest/abdomen/pelvis CT scans. This technology, in combination with next generation wide volume CT reduces total radiation dose.

Approximately 30% of the carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the atmosphere has been absorbed by the world’s oceans. As CO2 emissions increase due to human activities so does the amount of CO2 absorbed by the oceans. Carbon dioxide lowers the pH of the ocean system, causing ocean acidification (OA). The effects of OA on economically and ecologically important aquatic species is a subject of interest. Sponges are important reef-associated species that provide shelter for fish and crustaceans in reef habitats and can also structure ecosystems through bioerosion, water filtration, and colonization of coral reef areas. This publication considers the effects of OA on marine sponges, with a focus on Florida’s coral reef.

Abstract This article represents the perspective of one retired, academic forage breeder and cultivar developer after 50 years of working experience. Developing cultivars that help farmers within pastoral agriculture is the main goal, a system where livestock is the consumer. International Grassland Congress proceedings, as well as the general literature, are historical guides for the state of forage breeding. Efficiency was achieved through technologies; better equipment for planting and harvesting; and advances in computer computation and communication. Biotechnology achievements were fitful and continue to evolve. Cultivar performance mean‐reversion, cost to the program, and what the farmer seed buyer was willing to pay are important considerations for applying any technology, especially biotechnologies. Biotech promises were too optimistic. This was due, in part, to a lack of understanding that traditional phenotypic/genotypic field selection programs operate in a complex way with multiple species and several traits screened simultaneously at a modest cost. The majority of current forage cultivars are from field‐based selection. Industry participation at scientific conferences declined over time, with less sharing of information the result. Cultivar developers will continue using basic field selection methods but should explore applying any technology; just be clever on when, how, and with whom to use them. Practical advice and experiences are also presented and discussed.

Introduction An understanding of the mental health awareness programmes among workforces in low/middle-income countries (LMICs) is lacking significantly in literature. Such understanding is crucial for the employers, government agencies and other stakeholders to initiate strategies to promote mental health and well-being at the workplace.Objective The main aim of this study is to conduct a scoping review to systematically map the research on the mental health awareness programmes among workforces in LMICs.Methods A comprehensive search strategy for the articles published between 2000 and 2022 will be conducted in MEDLINE, PubMed, EBSCOhost, Wiley Online Library, Cochrane and JSTOR. Various study designs such as randomised control trials, non-randomised control trials, systematic reviews, scoping reviews and observational studies that report evidence on mental health awareness programmes among workforce in LMICs will be identified through specific strategy. Search outcomes will be exported to Endnote and duplication of studies will be removed. From the list of included studies, data such as characteristics of mental health programmes, common outcome measures and domains, and motivations underlying the establishment of existing mental health awareness programmes will be extracted and analysed.Analysis The search outcomes will be presented in a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses flow chart. The characteristics of the research studies on mental health programmes will be outlined using tables. The various outcome domains and outcome measures reported in the studies will be presented in a bubble chart showing different outcome measures categorised and collated under a specific outcome domain. The findings on the motivations and justifications underlying the establishment of mental health awareness programmes will be summarised using a thematic analysis.Trial registration number https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/WPURK.

(1) Background: Infertility is a global health problem that affects one of six couples worldwide, leading to significant negative impacts on their quality of life. Despite numerous studies on infertility patterns and sociodemographic characteristics, there remains a lack of clarity on these aspects among patients seeking care in Tanzania. (2) Methods: This hospital-based analytical cross-sectional study aimed to determine infertility patterns and sociodemographic characteristics among 385 randomly selected male and female patients attending the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital. Structured interviews using a clinical proforma collected data on the patterns of infertility and sociodemographic characteristics of the participants. The analysis included descriptive statistics and logistic regression. (3) Results: The findings indicated that the dominant pattern of infertility for both male and female participants was secondary infertility, accounting for 59.00% (228). Multivariate logistic regression analysis for both male and female patients revealed sociodemographic characteristics of infertility: age (38–43) years, AOR 5.068, 95% CI 1.573–16.33, p = 0.007), and duration of cohabiting or marriage of more than 10 years (AOR 0.406,95% CI 0.189–0.873, p = 0.021). (4) Conclusion: Integrating reproductive health education on appropriate fertility age into the reproductive health package and enhancing fertility care in public hospitals in Tanzania is recommended. Societal Impact Statement The Fourth Industrial Revolution is underway. Controversy surrounds the choice of modality for access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their utilization, as established in the third objective of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The modality chosen by the Conference of the Parties should promote conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources, which are the first and second objectives of the convention. “Bounded openness over natural information” achieves all three objectives by aligning incentives between users and Providers. With philanthropic support, the modality can also be applied to unpublished traditional knowledge, which would enhance food security. Summary Several international agreements have provisions for “access to genetic resources” and “fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from [their] utilization” (ABS). The optimal modality has proven elusive for the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Nagoya Protocol (NP). Such failure need not be so. We embrace reductionism and partition genetic resources into tangible and intangible attributes and classify the latter as natural or artificial information. The economics of information justifies “rents,” which is the difference between what is paid and what would have been paid in a competitive market. Fairness and equity imply protection for natural information equal to that of artificial information. Bilateralism eliminates rents through competition and renders royalties infinitesimal, thus defeating ABS. The proposed Global Multilateral Benefit‐Sharing Mechanism (GMBSM) could capture rents and distribute royalty income proportional to habitat for terrestrial species, and to CO2 reductions for marine species and wild relatives of crops. Alignment of incentives for conservation would facilitate transition to half‐Earth. Domesticated species require stronger incentives for conservation than do nondomesticated species. The Multilateral System (MLS) of The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) should be expanded. Enclosure of traditional knowledge not yet in public domain through a benefit‐sharing mechanism could incentivize communities to deposit samples into the CGIAR Genebanks and resume seed exchange, which is essential for food security. A robust modality of ABS for the CBD, NP, ITPGRFA and other agreements is “bounded openness.”

Vegetable oils in the lubricant field are largely studied. Their efficiency depends on their viscosity parameters and their fatty acid composition. The actions of moringa oil used as a lubricant base and as a lubricant additive have been shown in this work. Graphite, carbon nanofibers, and carbon nanodots are carbon phases of different shapes used as solid additives. The tribological performances of lubricant blends composed of between 0.5 and 1 wt.% of particles have been evaluated using a ball-on-plane tribometer under an ambient atmosphere. No additional surfactant was used. The positive and important actions of a small amount of moringa oil added in the lubricant formulas are demonstrated. The results obtained allow us to point out the influence of the type and shape of particles. Physicochemical investigations allow us to propose a synergistic effect between the particles and moringa oil as additives in dodecane. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recommender systems offer several advantages to hospital data management units and patients with special needs. These systems are more dependent on the extreme subtle hospital-patient data. Thus, disregarding the confidentiality of patients with special needs is not an option. In recent times, several proposed techniques failed to cryptographically guarantee the data privacy of the patients with special needs in the diet recommender systems (RSs) deployment. In order to tackle this pitfall, this paper incorporates a blockchain privacy system (BPS) into deep learning for a diet recommendation system for patients with special needs. Our proposed technique allows patients to get notifications about recommended treatments and medications based on their personalized data without revealing their confidential information. Additionally, the paper implemented machine and deep learning algorithms such as RNN, Logistic Regression, MLP, etc., on an Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) dataset acquired via the internet and hospitals that comprises the data of 50 patients with 13 features of various diseases and 1,000 products. The product section has a set of eight features. The IoMT data features were analyzed with BPS and further encoded prior to the application of deep and machine learning-based frameworks. The performance of the different machine and deep learning methods were carried out and the results verify that the long short-term memory (LSTM) technique is more effective than other schemes regarding prediction accuracy, precision, F1-measures, and recall in a secured blockchain privacy system. Results showed that 97.74% accuracy utilizing the LSTM deep learning model was attained. The precision of 98%, recall, and F1-measure of 99% each for the allowed class was also attained. For the disallowed class, the scores were 89, 73, and 80% for precision, recall, and F1-measure, respectively. The performance of our proposed BPS is subdivided into two categories: the secured communication channel of the recommendation system and an enhanced deep learning approach using health base medical dataset that spontaneously identifies what food a patient with special needs should have based on their disease and certain features including gender, weight, age, etc. The proposed system is outstanding as none of the earlier revised works of literature described a recommender system of this kind.

The absorption of atmospheric carbon dioxide by the oceans has changed the chemical properties of seawater and made it more acidic all over the world. Florida, with an extensive coastline and deep cultural and economic ties to marine resources, will be directly affected. Rising atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration leading to ocean acidification is a threat to marine ecosystems and organisms. As atmospheric CO2 rises, CO2 is driven into the ocean. When CO2 combines with seawater it makes carbonic acid. Carbonic acid then breaks down to form a hydrogen ion and a bicarbonate ion. Excess hydrogen ions building up over time result in decreased seawater pH. Furthermore, the excess hydrogen ions combine with carbonate ions in the water, resulting in fewer available carbonate ions for marine calcifiers. These carbonate ions are an essential element for marine calcifiers and their decreased availability is of increasing concern. The overall change in pH and available carbonate ions has been shown to have direct impacts on physiology, behavior, and calcification rates of marine organisms. Coastal Florida boasts an abundance and diversity of calcifying organisms that stand to be impacted by the altered carbonate chemistry resulting from increased atmospheric CO2 levels. This publication will focus on the impacts of ocean acidification on Calcification. Specifically focusing on how calcification in corals, bivalves, echinoderms and planktonic organisms are being impacte.
