Although gay, bisexual, and other cisgender men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women have the highest HIV burden in Latin America, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) implementation is poor. We aimed to assess the feasibility of same-day oral PrEP delivery in Brazil, Mexico, and Peru.Implementation PrEP (ImPrEP) was a prospective, single-arm, open-label, multicentre PrEP implementation study conducted in Brazil (14 sites), Mexico (four sites), and Peru (ten sites). MSM and transgender women were eligible to participate if they were aged 18 years or older, HIV-negative, and reported one or more prespecified criteria. Enrolled participants received same-day initiation of daily oral PrEP (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate [300 mg] coformulated with emtricitabine [200 mg]). Follow-up visits were scheduled at week 4 and quarterly thereafter. We used logistic regression models to identify factors associated with early loss to follow-up (not returning after enrolment), PrEP adherence (medication possession ratio ≥0·6), and long-term PrEP engagement (attending three or more visits within 52 weeks). This study is registered at the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials, U1111-1217-6021.From Feb 6, 2018, to June 30, 2021, 9979 participants were screened and 9509 were enrolled (Brazil n=3928, Mexico n=3288, and Peru n=2293). 543 (5·7%) participants were transgender women, 8966 (94·3%) were cisgender men, and 2481 (26·1%) were aged 18-24 years. There were 12 185·25 person-years of follow-up. 795 (8·4%) of 9509 participants had early loss to follow-up, 6477 (68·1%) of 9509 were adherent to PrEP, and 5783 (70·3%) of 8225 had long-term PrEP engagement. Transgender women (adjusted odds ratio 1·60, 95% CI 1·20-2·14), participants aged 18-24 years (1·80, 1·49-2·18), and participants with primary education (2·18, 1·29-3·68) had increased odds of early loss to follow-up. Transgender women (0·56, 0·46-0·70), participants aged 18-24 years (0·52, 0·46-0·58), and those with primary education (0·60, 0·40-0·91) had lower odds of PrEP adherence. Transgender women (0·56, 0·45-0·71), participants aged 18-24 years (0·56, 0·49-0·64), and those with secondary education (0·74, 0·68-0·86) had lower odds of long-term PrEP engagement. HIV incidence was 0·85 per 100 person-years (95% CI 0·70-1·03) and was higher for transgender women, participants from Peru, those aged 18-24 years, Black and mixed-race participants, and participants who were non-adherent to PrEP.Same-day oral PrEP is feasible for MSM and transgender women in Latin America. Despite the availability of effective vaccines against COVID-19, booster vaccinations are needed to maintain vaccine-induced protection against variant strains and breakthrough infections. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of the Ad26.COV2.S vaccine (Janssen) as primary vaccination plus a booster dose.ENSEMBLE2 is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial including crossover vaccination after emergency authorisation of COVID-19 vaccines. Adults aged at least 18 years without previous COVID-19 vaccination at public and private medical practices and hospitals in Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, the Philippines, South Africa, Spain, the UK, and the USA were randomly assigned 1:1 via a computer algorithm to receive intramuscularly administered Ad26.COV2.S as a primary dose plus a booster dose at 2 months or two placebo injections 2 months apart. The primary endpoint was vaccine efficacy against the first occurrence of molecularly confirmed moderate to severe-critical COVID-19 with onset at least 14 days after booster vaccination, which was assessed in participants who received two doses of vaccine or placebo, were negative for SARS-CoV-2 by PCR at baseline and on serology at baseline and day 71, had no major protocol deviations, and were at risk of COVID-19 (ie, had no PCR-positive result or discontinued the study before day 71). Safety was assessed in all participants; reactogenicity, in terms of solicited local and systemic adverse events, was assessed as a secondary endpoint in a safety subset (approximately 6000 randomly selected participants). The trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04614948, and is ongoing.Enrolment began on Nov 16, 2020, and the primary analysis data cutoff was June 25, 2021. From 34 571 participants screened, the double-blind phase enrolled 31 300 participants, 14 492 of whom received two doses (7484 in the Ad26.COV2.S group and 7008 in the placebo group) and 11 639 of whom were eligible for inclusion in the assessment of the primary endpoint (6024 in the Ad26.COV2.S group and 5615 in the placebo group). The median (IQR) follow-up post-booster vaccination was 36·0 (15·0-62·0) days. Vaccine efficacy was 75·2% (adjusted 95% CI 54·6-87·3) against moderate to severe-critical COVID-19 (14 cases in the Ad26.COV2.S group and 52 cases in the placebo group). Most cases were due to the variants alpha (B.1.1.7) and mu (B.1.621); endpoints for the primary analysis accrued from Nov 16, 2020, to June 25, 2021, before the global dominance of delta (B.1.617.2) or omicron (B.1.1.529). The booster vaccine exhibited an acceptable safety profile. The overall frequencies of solicited local and systemic adverse events (evaluated in the safety subset, n=6067) were higher among vaccine recipients than placebo recipients after the primary and booster doses. The frequency of solicited adverse events in the Ad26.COV2.S group were similar following the primary and booster vaccinations (local adverse events, 1676 [55·6%] of 3015 vs 896 [57·5%] of 1559, respectively; systemic adverse events, 1764 [58·5%] of 3015 vs 821 [52·7%] of 1559, respectively). Solicited adverse events were transient and mostly grade 1-2 in severity.A homologous Ad26.COV2.S booster administered 2 months after primary single-dose vaccination in adults had an acceptable safety profile and was efficacious against moderate to severe-critical COVID-19. Staphylococcus aureus is a microorganism that can colonize the nose, pharynx, and other regions of the body. It has also been observed that it can cause persistence. Successful colonization of S. aureus depends in the factors that favor the interaction of the bacteria with host cells. The bacterial determinants of S. aureus that have the capacity to adhere to human tissues involve adhesion factors such as teichoic acids and cell-wall-anchored proteins (CWA) such as ClfA, IcaA, SdrC, FnBPA, among others. The colonization and persistence process first involve adhesion to the tissue, followed by its reproduction and the possible formation of a biofilm. This review will describe the main virulence factors that allow bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation, including the accessory gene regulator genes (agr), related to colonization and persistence of S. aureus.

Background: People living with HIV have accounted for 38–50% of those affected in the 2022 multicountry mpox outbreak. Most reported cases were in people who had high CD4 cell counts and similar outcomes to those without HIV. Emerging data suggest worse clinical outcomes and higher mortality in people with more advanced HIV. We describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes of mpox in a cohort of people with HIV and low CD4 cell counts (CD4 Methods: A network of clinicians from 19 countries provided data of confirmed mpox cases between May 11, 2022, and Jan 18, 2023, in people with HIV infection. Contributing centres completed deidentified structured case report sheets to include variables of interest relevant to people living with HIV and to capture more severe outcomes. We restricted this series to include only adults older than 18 years living with HIV and with a CD4 cell count of less than 350 cells per mm3 or, in settings where a CD4 count was not always routinely available, an HIV infection clinically classified as US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stage C. We describe their clinical presentation, complications, and causes of death. Analyses were descriptive. Findings: We included data of 382 cases: 367 cisgender men, four cisgender women, and ten transgender women. The median age of individuals included was 35 (IQR 30–43) years. At mpox diagnosis, 349 (91%) individuals were known to be living with HIV; 228 (65%) of 349 adherent to antiretroviral therapy (ART); 32 (8%) of 382 had a concurrent opportunistic illness. The median CD4 cell count was 211 (IQR 117–291) cells per mm3, with 85 (22%) individuals with CD4 cell counts of less than 100 cells per mm3 and 94 (25%) with 100–200 cells per mm3. Overall, 193 (51%) of 382 had undetectable viral load. Severe complications were more common in people with a CD4 cell count of less than 100 cells per mm3 than in those with more than 300 cells per mm3, including necrotising skin lesions (54% vs 7%), lung involvement (29% vs 0%) occasionally with nodules, and secondary infections and sepsis (44% vs 9%). Overall, 107 (28%) of 382 were hospitalised, of whom 27 (25%) died. All deaths occurred in people with CD4 counts of less than 200 cells per mm3. Among people with CD4 counts of less than 200 cells per mm3, more deaths occurred in those with high HIV viral load. An immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome to mpox was suspected in 21 (25%) of 85 people initiated or re-initiated on ART, of whom 12 (57%) of 21 died. 62 (16%) of 382 received tecovirimat and seven (2%) received cidofovir or brincidofovir. Three individuals had laboratory confirmation of tecovirimat resistance. Interpretation: A severe necrotising form of mpox in the context of advanced immunosuppression appears to behave like an AIDS-defining condition, with a high prevalence of fulminant dermatological and systemic manifestations and death. Streptomyces species have been successfully used in diverse biotechnological processes; however, little is known about actinobacterial biofilm formation and its use as a biofilmed inoculant. The present study assessed and compared the ability of some plant growth-promoting actinobacterial strains to form biofilms on a carrier to improve microbial survival and colonize the rhizosphere and roots of Triticum aestivum, resulting in positive interactions and benefits to the plant. Forty-one actinobacterial isolates from Persea americana organic rhizosphere farms were tested on plant growth and biofilm-forming capacities, showing their potential use as bio-fertilizers in agriculture. Three Streptomyces strains were selected and tested for biofilm formation and plant growth-promoting (PGP) features. Biofilms were induced on the perlite carrier and used to inoculate seven treatments with T. aestivum in pot essays, resulting in a >200% increase in root weight and a >400% increase in total biomass. Endophytic colonization was achieved in all the treatments. Microbial survival ranged between 108 and 109 CFU/g after 12 weeks of treatment, indicating actinobacterial permanence on the carrier. Successful consortia formation was observed for mixed-strain treatments, suggesting long-term plant recolonization.

Understanding the factors associated with pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) adherence may help in the development of strategies to support, motivate and sustain PrEP use. This study estimated self-reported adherence, described perceived barriers and facilitators and investigated factors associated with adherence to daily oral PrEP among men who have sex with man (MSM) and transgender women after 1 year of PrEP use in Brazil. PrEP Brasil was a prospective, multicentre, open-label demonstration study with MSM and transgender women at high risk for HIV infection. We used logistic regression to evaluate factors associated with complete adherence (not forgetting to take any pills in the past 30 days) at week 48. Of 338 participants included in this analysis, 60% reported complete adherence to daily oral PrEP at week 48. Perceived barriers and facilitators to daily oral PrEP were reported by 38.2% and 98.5%, respectively. The most reported barrier and facilitator were ‘I forgot to take my pills’ (19.2%) and ‘Associate PrEP with a daily activity/task’ (58.6%), respectively. In final multivariable analysis, living in Rio de Janeiro (aOR: 0.38; 95% CI: 0.20–0.73), being transgender women (aOR: 0.22; 95% CI: 0.07–0.73), reporting stimulant use (a OR: 0.40; 95% CI: 0.20–0.80) and having any perceived barriers to daily oral PrEP (aOR: 0.12; 95% CI: 0.07–0.23) were associated with decreased odds of complete adherence. Our findings provide information for developing the best practices to promote PrEP adherence in the Brazilian context.

Early life stress induced by maternal separation (MS) causes neuroendocrine, behavioral, and metabolic alterations that are related to gut dysbiosis. MS also increases microglial activation and decreases neurogenesis. Whether these long-term alterations are maintained or worsened in the absence of gut microbiota remains unknown. Hence, this study evaluated the effect of MS symptomatology after antibiotic-induced microbiota depletion (AIMD) in adult rats. Control and maternally separated (3 h per day from postnatal day one to 14, MS180) rats were subjected to AIMD for one month, then assessed for behavioral, metabolic, and neuroendocrine responses. Effects of MS180 and AIMD on gut microbiota were confirmed by qPCR. The data indicate that MS180 caused a passive coping strategy in the forced swimming test and decreased hippocampal neurogenesis. In addition, fasting glucose, cholesterol, and corticosterone levels increased, which correlated with a decrease in Lactobacillus spp counts in the caecum. AIMD also increased immobility in the forced swimming test, decreased hippocampal neurogenesis, and augmented corticosterone levels. However, it had no effects on glucose homeostasis or plasma lipid levels. Furthermore, the MS180-induced long-term effects on behavior and neurogenesis were not affected by microbiota depletion. Meanwhile, the metabolic imbalance was partially reversed in MS180 + AIMD rats. These results show that AIMD mimics the behavioral consequences of MS180 but may prevent metabolic imbalance, suggesting that gut dysbiosis could be part of the mechanisms involved in the maintenance of the long-term consequences of early life stress.

Background Bacterial infections are responsible of high economic losses in aquaculture. Mexican golden trout (Oncorhynchus chrysogaster) is a threatened native trout species that has been introduced in aquaculture both for species conservation and breeding for production and for which no studies of bacterial infections have been reported. Case presentation Fish from juvenile stages of Mexican golden trout showed an infectious outbreak in a farm in co-culture with rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), showing external puntiform red lesions around the mouth and caudal pedunculus resembling furuncles by Aeromonas spp. and causing an accumulated mortality of 91%. Isolation and molecular identification of bacteria from lesions and internal organs showed the presence of Aeromonas bestiarum, Aeromonas sobria, Plesiomonas shigelloides and Ichthyobodo necator isolated from a single individual. All bacterial isolates were resistant to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and cefazoline. P. shigelloides was resistant to third generation β-lactamics. Conclusions This is the first report of coinfection by Aeromonas bestiarum, Aeromonas sobria, Plesiomonas shigelloides and Ichthyobodo necator in an individual of Mexican golden trout in co-culture with rainbow trout. Resistance to β-lactams suggests the acquisition of genetic determinants from water contamination by human- or livestock-associated activities.

Salmonella spp. is a facultative intracellular pathogen causing localized or systemic infections, involving economic and public health significance, and remains the leading pathogen of food safety concern worldwide, with poultry being the primary transmission vector. Antibiotics have been the main strategy for Salmonella control for many years, which has allowed producers to improve the growth and health of food-producing animals. However, the utilization of antibiotics has been reconsidered since bacterial pathogens have established and shared a variety of antibiotic resistance mechanisms that can quickly increase within microbial communities. The use of alternatives to antibiotics has been recommended and successfully applied in many countries, leading to the core aim of this review, focused on (1) describing the importance of Salmonella infection in poultry and the effects associated with the use of antibiotics for disease control; (2) discussing the use of feeding-based (prebiotics, probiotics, bacterial subproducts, phytobiotics) and non-feeding-based (bacteriophages, in ovo injection, vaccines) strategies in poultry production for Salmonella control; and (3) exploring the use of complementary strategies, highlighting those based on -omics tools, to assess the effects of using the available antibiotic-free alternatives and their role in lowering dependency on the existing antimicrobial substances to manage bacterial infections in poultry effectively.

Because persons who identify across the transgender spectrum (PATS) are a key population in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) yet are underreported in HIV and cardiovascular research, we aimed to characterize this population within the REPRIEVE global clinical trial (n = 7770). Acceptance of gathering gender identity was high (96%). Participation by PATS was 1.7% overall, 2.4% among natal males, 0.3% among natal females, and varied across geographic regions (from 0% in sub-Saharan Africa to 2.3% in High Income Region). Thirty percent of natal male PATS identified other than transgender. Some characteristics differed by gender. Most notably, 38% of natal male PATS receiving gender-affirming treatment had waist circumference >102 cm (compared with ≤25% in other groups). Given that PATS is a key population, HIV research should routinely report trial participation and outcomes by gender in addition to natal sex, to provide the results needed to optimize medical care to PATS.

El presente trabajo estudió la influencia de la relación suelo/concentración de electrolitos extractantes (CaCl2 0.01 y 0.02 M y KCl 0.1 y 1M), en la medición del pH en suelos ácidos. Se analizaron 180 muestras de suelos, extraídas a 30 cm de profundidad, provenientes del distrito de Iberia en la provincia de Puerto Maldonado región Madre de Dios. Las mediciones se realizaron en la suspensión. El valor de R=0.8880 obtenido del análisis de Pearson y el resultado de la varianza estableciendo el valor de Ficher tabulado (28.8974) mayor que el calculado (4.6005E-10) demostraron, que existe correlación múltiple. Concluyendo que, la dilución del suelo, tiene efecto directo sobre el pH, a mayor dilución mayor incremento del pH, la medición de pH de suelos fuertemente ácidos empleando KCl produce valores más confiables que cuando son medidos en agua y el incremento de la concentración de las sales no tuvo efecto considerable sobre la medición del pH.

Simple Summary This review is focused on describing the main available antibiotic-free strategies that may be implemented to control or reduce the impact associated with Salmonella infection in poultry. These alternatives have been cataloged in two groups: feeding-based (prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics, and phytobiotics) and non-feeding-based strategies (bacteriophages, in ovo applications, and vaccines). Moreover, we highlighted the relevance of the omics as a tool to design and validate the effects and efficacy of these kinds of treatments when Salmonella control is pursued. The RNA polymerase II drives the biogenesis of coding and non-coding RNAs for gene expression. Here, we describe new roles for its second-largest subunit, NRPB2, on root organogenesis and regeneration. Down-regulation of NRPB2 activates a determinate developmental program, which correlated with a reduction in mitotic activity, cell elongation, and size of the root apical meristem. Noteworthy, nrpb2-3 mutants manifest cell death in pro-vascular cells within primary root tips of plants grown in darkness or exposed to light, which triggers the expression of the regeneration gene marker ERF115 in neighbor cells close to damage. Auxin and stem cell niche (SCN) gene expression as well as structural analysis revealed that NRPB2 maintains SCN activity through distribution of PIN transporters in root tissues. Wild-type seedlings regenerated the root tip after excision of the QC and SCN, but nrpb2-3 mutants did not rebuild the missing tissues, and this process could be genotypified using pERF115:GFP, DR5:GFP, and pWOX5:GFP reporter constructs. The levels of reactive oxygen species increased in the mutants four days after germination and strongly decreased at later times, whereas nitric oxide accumulated as the root tip differentiates. These results show the importance of the transcriptional machinery for root organogenesis, cell viability, and regenerative capacity for reconstruction of tissues and organs upon injury.

Los virus son partículas que infectan a todas las formas de vida. Los virus bacteriófagos, que infectan bacterias, fueron descubiertos antes que los antibióticos. A pesar de su tamaño pequeño, han contribuido al desarrollo científico desde hace décadas, como en el descubrimiento de numerosas enzimas con aplicaciones en la biología molecular1. En este trabajo se analizarán aspectos generales de la biología de los virus bacteriófagos, su contribución a la salud y se presentarán algunos casos exitosos de la terapia antimicrobiana usando bacteriófagos en humanos y animales. Aunque la terapia con bacteriófagos no cuenta con autorización para su uso global, ya existen formulaciones comerciales de bacteriófagos para la industria alimentaria. Se describirá el arma principal de los bacteriófagos, la endolisina, enzima que “revienta” a las bacterias. Las endolisinas se consideran una alternativa más segura que los bacteriófagos, al carecer de material genético. Los bacteriófagos y las endolisinas tienen aplicaciones revolucionarias en la medicina, como vehículos de transporte de moléculas y generación de vacunas, de fantasmas bacterianos, o en la detección diagnóstica de bacterias patógenas.

This work presents the experimental assessment of the joint behaviour of five steel beam-to-column end-plate joint configurations to assess (i) the effect of minor axis end plate joints in the behaviour of major axis end plate joints, and (ii) the interaction of two minor axis end plate joints. The experimental tests were performed with true size cruciform sub-frames specimens with boundary conditions intended to simulate unbraced frames. The sub-fames, with one to three beams, were loaded introducing multiple 3D stress states in the column unstiffened web, causing an interaction between the mechanical behaviour of two or three major and minor axis joints. The interactions were assessed in terms of the moment-rotation relations of joints, connections and column web. It was found that, for the slenderness of the column web tested, (i) the minor-axis joints have only a relevant influence on the stiffnesses of the major-axis joints and (ii) that, when two minor axis joints are present, their mutual interation increases both their stiffness and strength.

Se ha dado gran preferencia a la explotación de minerales metálicos, riqueza del subsuelo y el estudio cólico de las mismas bajo un aspecto geológico y minero; sin embargo, no sucede lo mismo con los yacimientos y minerales no metálicos a lo largo y ancho de nuestro país, especialmente en nuestra región. Por estas razones nuestro objetivo es incentivar y propiciar el estudio y explotación de estas riquezas no metálicas, en forma racional y con una tecnología avanzadas para crear un polo de desarrollo en la región en base a estos elementos, especialmente la puzolana que existe a lo largo del Valle de Tacna en inmensas cantidades.

HIV-1 transmitted drug resistance (TDR) mutations may reduce the efficacy of antiretroviral therapy (ART), but pre-treatment testing to determine the virus genotype can improve the efficacy of ART. Unfortunately, issues related to cost and logistics of pre-treatment testing limit its use in resource-limited settings. We studied 596 ART-naive individuals who were newly diagnosed from 2014 to 2016 in São Paulo, Brazil, to evaluate TDR and virological outcome after 48 weeks of genotype-guided therapy. One or more TDR (based on the WHO surveillance list) was observed in 10.9% (CI 95%, 8.6-13.6) of the sequences, the most common of which was the K103 N mutation, which confers resistance to first-generation drugs of the non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) antiretroviral drug class. Dual-class (1%, 6/596) and triple-class (0.34%, 2/596) resistance were uncommon. After 48 weeks of treatment with ART, infection was suppressed to below 200 copies/mL in most patients (95%), with full suppression (RNA target not detected) in 65%. The following characteristics at patient enrollment were independently associated with a lack of full suppression: CD4 T cell counts below 500 cells/µL, viremia above 100,000 copies/mL, older age, and TDR to NNRTI. The rates of resistance were intermediate, but genotype-guided therapy resulted in high rates of viral suppression. The observed resistance profile should not be an obstacle to the use of the dolutegravir-based regimen now recommended in Brazil, but genotype testing may be warranted before initiating first-generation NNRTI-based regimens.

Objectives To determine the impact of valaciclovir on HIV disease progression in treatment-naive HIV-positive adults. Methods In this fully blind, multicentre, 1:1 randomized placebo-controlled trial, treatment-naive HIV-1-positive adults with CD4 counts 400–900 cells/mm3 and not meeting contemporaneous recommendations for combination ART (cART) were randomized to valaciclovir 500 mg or placebo twice daily, and followed quarterly until having two consecutive CD4 counts ≤350 cells/mm3 or initiating cART for any reason. The primary analysis compared the rate of CD4 count decline by study arm after adjusting for baseline CD4 count and viral load (VL). Secondary analyses compared the rate of CD4 percentage decline, HIV VL, herpes simplex virus (HSV) recurrences and drug-related adverse events. The trial closed after release of the START trial results in August 2015. Results We enrolled 198 participants in Canada, Brazil, Argentina and the UK. Median (IQR) age was 35 (30–43) years. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) prevents HIV infection among men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) who are the groups that presents the high incidence risk in Brazil. This cross-sectional secondary analysis describes possible risk compensation, attitudes, and beliefs regarding the use of PrEP among 723 MSM and TGW evaluated in the PrEP Brazil study pre-screening phase. Possible risk compensation was reported by 31.6% individuals. In the multivariate model, factors that increased the likelihood of possible risk compensation were: self-referring as white vs. Black (AOR 2.05; CI 1.09, 3.85), perceiving high likelihood of getting HIV in next 12 months (AOR 1.78; CI 1.23, 2.56), being less afraid of HIV infection if using PrEP (AOR 1.93; CI 1.19, 3.14), feeling liberated to have more partners if using PrEP (AOR 2.93; CI 1.92, 4.49), and believing closest friends would use PrEP (AOR 2.51; CI 1.1, 5.71). We found that possible risk compensation was more common among individuals who presented high-risk perception for HIV infection, probably reflecting they feel at risk and could benefit from PrEP use.

Brazilian patients were not included in the original development studies for glecaprevir/pibrentasvir. This study aimed to assess safety and efficacy of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir in treatment-naive Brazilian adults without cirrhosis or with compensated cirrhosis. Patients and methods: EXPEDITION-3 was a Phase 3, open-label, multicenter study in treatment-naive Brazilian adults with hepatitis C infection genotype 1-6. Patients without cirrhosis (F2 or F3) or with compensated cirrhosis (F4) received 8 or 12 weeks of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir, respectively. The primary efficacy endpoint was the rate of sustained virologic response at post-treatment Week 12. Secondary endpoints were on-treatment virologic failure and relapse rates. Baseline polymorphisms were assessed in NS3 and NS5A. Adverse events and laboratory abnormalities were monitored. Results: 100 patients were enrolled, 75 received 8 weeks of treatment and 25 received 12 weeks; all patients completed treatment. Overall sustained virologic response at post-treatment Week 12 rate was high (98.0%; 98/100; 95% confidence interval: 93.0-99.4) and remained high regardless of baseline viral or host factors, including demographics, hepatitis C virus RNA levels, polymorphisms in NS3 and/or NS5A, genotype, and relevant comorbidities. 55% of patients reported >= 1 adverse event, the most common being headache (18.0%). Four patients reported serious adverse events; none were considered drug related or led to study drug discontinuation. No hepatic decompensations were observed. Concrete barely possesses tensile strength, and it is susceptible to cracking, which leads to a reduction of its service life. Consequently, it is significant to find a complementary material that helps alleviate these drawbacks. The aim of this research was to determine analytically and experimentally the effect of the addition of the steel fibers on the performance of the post-cracking stage on fiber-reinforced concrete, by studying four notch-to-depth ratios of 0, 0.08, 0.16, and 0.33. This was evaluated through 72 bending tests, using plain concrete (control) and fiber-reinforced concrete with volume fibers of 0.25% and 0.50%. Results showed that the specimens with a notch-to-depth ratio up to 0.33 are capable of attaining a hardening behavior. The study concludes that the increase in the dosage leads to an improvement in the residual performance, even though an increase in the notch-to-depth ratio has also occurred.

En estudio evaluó las características del suelo que influyen en el crecimiento de la especie Eucaliptus urograndis en plantaciones forestales comerciales mediante la caracterización de suelos en campo y laboratorio en 18 parcelas de muestreo, distribuidos en tres estratos de crecimientos. Los resultados de la caracterización de los perfiles de suelo en los 3 estratos de crecimiento indican que la especie se ve favorecido en suelos desarrollados profundos, con horizontes genéticos definidos como “A” muy superficial, horizonte “B” iluvial bien desarrollado y C en proceso de formación, profundidad efectiva superior a los 40 cm, buen drenaje, estructura granular y en bloques, con texturas que van de franco, franco arenoso y arena franca. El crecimiento se ve limitado en suelos superficiales y con mal drenaje. Según los análisis estadísticos de correlación y regresión, el contenido de la fracción arena en el suelo está relacionado con el crecimiento, mostrando así una correlación positiva moderada del 52% y una correlación negativa modera del -53% fracción de limo y del -44% el hidrogeno cambiable. Los modelos lineales de pronóstico del crecimiento en diámetro en función de la fracción arena, limo y el hidrogeno cambiable son significativos al 99% y cumplen con los supuestos del modelo mediante el análisis de los residuales.

La presente investigación evaluó la biomasa y el contenido de nutrientes presente en las plantaciones de Eucalyptus urograndis, a 4 edades de crecimiento (15, 34, 39 y 52 meses) en cuatro sitios, ubicadas en la provincia Padre Abad, región Ucayali. Para determinar la producción de biomasa y el almacenamiento de nutrientes, se seleccionó un individuo para cada edad, cuyo criterio de selección fue el árbol promedio procedente de la parcela de medición de 500 m2. Mediante método destructivo se obtuvieron muestras de 1 kg por elemento vegetativo como hojas superiores, hojas inferiores, ramas, corteza, madera y raíz; los cuales fueron analizados mediante espectrofotometría en la determinación de macro y micro elementos. El resultado obtenido para el contenido de biomasa por edad, es el siguiente: 15 meses (23,79 tn/ha), 34 meses (35,46 tn/ha), 39 meses (74,18 tn/ha), 52 meses (79,47 tn/ha). La diferencia de la productividad (m3/ha/año) se atribuye a la calidad de sitio, manejo, material genético y la edad. En cuanto a la extracción de los nutrientes, el calcio fue el elemento de mayor concentración en promedio sobre las 4 edades de crecimiento, seguido del potasio, nitrógeno, magnesio, sodio y fosforo. Así mismo, nitrógeno fue el elemento que tuvo mayor presencia en las hojas, sobre todo en las hojas superiores, pero también uno de los elementos con mayor movilidad.
