13 pages, 2 tables, 11 figures, Fifteen specimens representing nine species of ceratioid fishes (Lophiiformes: Ceratioidei) were caught in Flemish Cap and Grand Banks of the western North Atlantic: Ceratias holboelli Krøyer, 1845 (Ceratiidae), Melanocetus murrayi Günther, 1887 (Melanocetidae), Leptacanthichthys gracilispinis (Regan, 1925), Dolopichthys karsteni Leipertz & Pietsch, 1987, Dolopichthys pullatus Regan & Trewavas, 1932, Oneirodes eschrichtii Lütken, 1871, Oneirodes macrosteus Pietsch 1974 and Oneirodes carlsbergi (Regan & Trewavas, 1932) (Oneirodidae), and Linophryne cf. brevibarbata Beebe, 1932 (Linophrynidae). Identification was carried out by means of integrative taxonomy, combining the examination of morphological and molecular characters (DNA barcoding). The analysis showed two morphological types of D. pullatus distinguishable by the shape and morphology of the esca and the number and size of the teeth. The occurrence of Oneirodes carlsbergi represents the northernmost record in the western Atlantic. As results of the molecular analysis, 15 new ceratioid sequences were added to molecular repositories, two of them, O. carlsbergi and Linophryne cf. brevibarbata for the first time. The comparison of some nucleotide sequences shows new relationships between the genera Bertella and Dolopichthys, and also makes it possible to correct some of the erroneous assignments made in the databases. The combination of classical and molecular taxonomy has been useful for the delimitation and characterisation of these ceratioid species, contributing to a better understanding of their distribution and inter- and intraspecific variability, The survey research has been funded by the European Union through the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) within the National Program of collection, management and use of data in the fisheries sector and support for scientific advice regarding the Common Fisheries Policy. En el artículo se describe una experiencia de aprendizaje llevada a cabo en la Universidad Nacional de Educación (UNAE) consistente en aplicar la secuencia didáctica de escritura en el marco de la asignatura Lectura y Escritura de Textos Académicos I con un doble propósito: por un lado, procurar la mejora progresiva de las competencias básicas del alumnado en el campo de la comunicación escrita; y, por otro, intentar fomentar la cohesión grupal gracias al análisis de unos autorretratos anónimos que sirvieron como pretexto para ejecutar los correspondientes ejercicios de redacción. El trabajo se desarrolla desde los parámetros de la investigación-acción y tiene un enfoque narrativo-interpretativo. Los resultados obtenidos ponen de manifiesto la importancia de atender las relaciones personales en cualquier contexto educativo —incluido el universitario—y plantea la necesidad de proponer actividades académicas dirigidas no solo a la adquisición de conocimientos teóricos, sino también a la formación integral y humana.

Durante el confinamiento provocado por la pandemia del Covid-19, la implementación de docencia online mediante el uso de la tecnología educacional posibilita que las estudiantes de la carrera de Educación Inicial de la Universidad Nacional de Educación (UNAE) puedan realizar su correspondiente periodo de práctica pedagógica. Sobre esta realidad, se desarrolla un estudio de caso único de tipo indagatorio/exploratorio cuyo objetivo es identificar las fortalezas y debilidades encontradas a lo largo del proceso formativo. Los resultados demuestran que el análisis colectivo de las sesiones virtuales permite que las futuras docentes de preescolar vayan construyendo su propia identidad profesional en este singular contexto educativo.

The aim of the article is to address, from a complex, intercultural and transdisciplinary perspective, the pedagogical practices that are carried out in university classrooms. It also develops an epistemological position that defends social equity through the inclusion in the curricula of those ancestral knowledge that favour reflection and the rethinking of the current way of life of society. The methodology used is analytical, exploratory and interpretative, and follows a non-experimental design. The study population consisted of 384 students from the National University of Education, the National University of Chimborazo and the Technical University of Manabi. As a result, it is discerned that the cohesive, inclusive and equitable role of the curriculum proposes mechanisms to delimit the type of society we want and with whom we have to build it. Aim Project shifts in the habitat suitability of 505 fish and invertebrate species in the Eastern Tropical Pacific that are likely to occur by the mid-21st century under “high greenhouse gas emissions” (RCP 8.5) and “strong mitigation” (RCP 2.6) scenarios. Location The Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean, a discrete biogeographic region from the Gulf of California to northern Peru. Methods Ensemble simulations of climate change effects on fish and invertebrate species caught by four major fisheries in the region, based on four species distribution models and three Earth system models. Results Simulation results indicated that species' habitat suitability increased or remained the same in the northern and southern margins of the Eastern Tropical Pacific but decreased by up to 14% in some fisheries along Central America. The largest declines in the average species habitat suitability index were projected for small pelagic fisheries (up to −46%), while the highest local species turnover was projected for coastal small-scale fisheries (up to 80%). Under RCP 8.5, species in the southern half and northern equatorial region of the Eastern Tropical Pacific were projected to shift south-east at a rate of approximately 30–60 km decade-1, respectively. Demersal species were projected to move into shallower, inshore waters with a shift in depth centroids estimated at a rate of around 1 to 13 m decade−1. Range shifts towards the equator reflect movements to cooler habitats that are characteristic of equatorial upwelling systems. Globally, commercial fisheries have had a strong impact on elasmobranch populations directly through high catch rates and indirectly through bycatch. Consequently, the abundance of many species is declining to the extent that some are considered under threat of extinction. Regionally, this negative trend is also evident in the international waters of the southern Grand Banks (off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada), where the occurrence of the thorny skate (Amblyraja radiata) has declined by nearly 70% in recent decades. This study used Bayesian species distribution models to investigate the habitat preference and biomass trends of the thorny skate during a 14-year period (2003–2017), linking five environmental predictors (i.e., bathymetry, sea bottom temperature, seabed aspect, slope, and rugosity) and prey distribution with fishery-independent data. Our findings identify some of the sensitive habitats for this species and the ecological factors that may be driving its population dynamics in the area. We argue that knowledge about the factors influencing the distribution of this species and spatiotemporal effects could be exploited as potential mitigation measures for future fishery management strategies.

The combination of vigorous terrain and millenary human action has produced major changes in vegetation cover, impacting soil losses from slopes and, consequently, sediment production. Increasing focus in the management of water resources led to the widespread construction of dams to generate water flows for iron production, irrigation and to satisfy the increasing demand of the massive urban development along the Costa del Sol. To investigate the connection between soil degradation and loss and river sediment transport retention at a major dam, a first-order sediment yield prediction was established by using a GIS-based model at river basin scale. A quantitative validation of model results is provided by empirical measurements of sedimentation in the main reservoir lake of La Concepción using D_GPS/Echo sounder combination and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft compared with pre-construction blue print topography aimed at documenting spot heights where sediments accumulated or eroded over 50 years. The significant erodibility that we have estimated seems matched by potentially high sediment accumulation rates along selected profiles and spot heights across the bottom of the reservoir lake. Our study discusses that Mediterranean coastal systems may no longer stay in the resilience envelope set by a critically delicate sediment transport balance and without engineering support in the form of direct sediment feeding to the marine system by the permanent nourishment works required. Due to soil loss, sediment entrapment in reservoirs and water management policies, the coastal protection offered by the natural resilience of the beach and dune system is no longer recoverable.

According to current systematics, the genus Halargyreus Günther, 1862 is composed of a single valid, widely distributed species, called H. johnsonii Günther, 1862, although DNA barcoding has previously suggested that specimens from New Zealand and Tasmania may belong to a different species. This research doubles the number of DNA barcodes of this species available in public repositories and expands the locations of the catches thereby allowing a better estimation of its intraspecific variability. A cladistic analysis of haplotype associations shows two independent clusters that could represent different species. These groupings overlap geographically in the North Atlantic Ocean, discarding the possibility of allopatry as previously proposed for the sequences from New Zealand and Tasmania. Similarly, none of the clusters could be assigned to H. johnsonii taking into account that the holotype comes precisely from the North Atlantic Ocean. Sequences from New Zealand and Tasmania are hierarchically linked to sequences from the North Atlantic, whereas other sequences from the South Seas, together with sequences from the North Atlantic and Pacific, form an independent group with no hierarchical link to the former. These preliminary results indicate not only the need to delve deeper into the systematics of the genus Halargyreus, but also suggest the existence of a complex of cryptic species of which an attempt should be made to clarify using the combined traditional and molecular taxonomies.

Purpose: To evaluate the intraocular pressure–lowering effect, the safety profile, and the success rate of the XEN45 Gel Stent (Allergan, Dublin, Ireland) in patients with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma. Methods: Retrospective study conducted on patients with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma, with or without cataract, who underwent XEN45 implantation surgery with subconjunctival mitomycin-C and had a minimum postoperative follow-up period of 12 months. The primary outcome measure was intraocular pressure reduction at 1 year as compared to baseline. Complete success was defined as a postoperative intraocular pressure reduction of ⩾20% from preoperative baseline at 12 months without any glaucoma medications. Qualified success was defined as a postoperative intraocular pressure reduction of ⩾20% at 12 months with medications. Results: Of the 24 screened patients, 21 eyes of 20 patients met the inclusion/exclusion criteria and were included in the study. A total of 13 (62%) eyes underwent XEN alone surgery and 8 (38%) eyes had combined XEN + cataract surgery. Mean intraocular pressure was significantly reduced from 21.1 (3.8) mmHg at baseline to 15.2 (3.9) mmHg at 1 year, p Conclusion: XEN45 Gel Stent implant significantly reduced the intraocular pressure and the number of antiglaucoma medications in patients with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of the XEN45 gel stent implant in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma or secondary open-angle glaucoma. Patients and methods: This is a retrospective, single-center, and comparative study conducted in consecutive primary open-angle glaucoma or secondary open-angle glaucoma patients, who underwent a XEN45 implant, alone or in combination with phacoemulsification. The primary end point was the intraocular pressure at the end of the follow-up period. Complete success was defined as an intraocular pressure reduction of ⩾20% from baseline to month 12 without antiglaucoma treatment. Results: Of the 69 patients (74 eyes) who were screened, 68 patients (73 eyes) were included in this study. In the overall study population, XEN gel stent significantly reduced intraocular pressure from 22.3 (21.0–23.5) mmHg at baseline to 15.3 (14.3–16.3) mmHg, p Conclusion: XEN gel stent, either alone or in combination with phacoemulsification, provided a significant reduction in both intraocular pressure and medical antiglaucoma treatment, but with some safety concerns, in a cohort of patients with open-angle glaucoma (primary or secondary).

Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208.The Bay of Marbella, in Western Costa del Sol (southern Spain), is one of the most artificialized coastal areas of the Mediterranean. Environmental factors, such as geology and climatic conditions, have supported a great variety of industrial activities over time. However, tourism industry positioned Marbella as an internationally renowned destination demanding the rapid artificialisation of its hinterland between the 1970s and the 1990s, relying such process on natural resources -mainly water- for urban sprawl. Small reservoir lakes were constructed in the 19th century for iron melting and irrigation industries, but the greatest water management infrastructure for the development of the tourism industry, La Concepcion Dam, was constructed in the 1970s in the lower reaches of the Rio Verde, the main river in the area. Although a significant amount of water is stored in the dam, the presence of steep slopes and the likely occurrence of heavy rainfall during winter generate torrential water runoff with high energy and high rates of sediment yield. The dam performs as a sediment trap and has induced the annulment of the main source of sediment supply to the littoral system, inducing severe coastal erosion processes which have not been successfully tackled yet. This paper presents a first order estimate of sediment yield in the Rio Verde watershed introducing sediment budget stored within La Concepcion reservoir. Results show that potential high sediment yield rates estimated in the Rio Verde watershed might have reached La Concepcion Dam and might have contributed to the siltation of the reservoir lake and direct coastal erosion. Whilst recognised as the main culprit, no action is undertaken by the decision-makers to extract and reutilise sediments silting coastal dams.

El reto al que nos enfrentamos es acercar la Educación Inclusiva a la realidad en la que nos encontramos inmersos, reconociendo la importancia de las competencias, liderazgo y empoderamiento docente, desde una perspectiva creativa y crítica. En consecuencia, la finalidad del evento es hacer visible el papel de los docentes y proyectar científicamente la reflexión desde la acción, tratando de enriquecer los vínculos necesarios entre los implicados; a la vez que la propia red que impulsa el evento consolida y presenta avances científicos sobre la Atención a la Diversidad y establece nuevas líneas de investigación y acción desde una visión estratégica.

The new information reported in this paper is based on 11 specimens of the large-tuberculate octopus Graneledone macrotyla . These specimens were caught in bottom trawl surveys ATLANTIS 2009 and 2010 carried out on the Patagonian slope off the Argentinean Economic Exclusive Zone between 24 February and 1 April 2009 and from 9 March to 5 April 2010 respectively. A new diagnosis and a complete description of the species are provided. This is the first time that stylets, beaks and spermatophores are described. This is also the first time in which mature females have been studied and the female genitalia described. Like other eledonid octopods, G. macrotyla does not have spermathecae in the oviducal glands. The presence of fertilized eggs inside the ovary suggests that fertilization takes place within the ovary. The simultaneous occurrence of oocyte cohorts at different oogenic stages suggests that the species is a multiple spawner. G. macrotyla inhabits shallower waters on the Patagonian slope (475-921 m) than in the subantartic area (1647-2044 m). From a biogeographical point of view, our data show that G. macrotyla inhabits the plume of cold subantarctic waters, which is pushed far north into the southwestern Atlantic by the Falkland (Malvinas) Current.

A Newton's endoreversible engine is defined when the heat flux from it to the cold bath Jc obeys Newton's law, and the heat flux from the heat bath into the engine Jh is arbitrary. For such a system a functional relationship between the power output function and the ecological function is found. Use is made of this relation to establish bi-univocal relations between two operational modes: at maximum power output (MPO) or at maximum ecological function (MEF). Bi-univocal relations are found between the engine's temperatures of the endoreversible engine and also between efficiencies at both operational modes. It is also shown that under very general conditions the upper engine's temperature and the efficiency in the MEF mode are greater than the upper engine's temperature and efficiency in the MPO mode, respectively.

8 pages, 3 figures, 5 tables, The stomach contents of three squids: 57 Doryteuthis gahi with mantle length (ML) ranging from 7.0 to 37.0. cm, 75 Illex argentinus (21.0-32.8. cm) and 116 Onykia ingens (19.9-39.3. cm) from commercial catches on the outer Patagonian shelf grounds during autumn (March and April 2012) were examined to describe their diet and compare their trophic spectrum. D. gahi preyed on 12 different items, I. argentinus on 20 and O. ingens on 29. Prey diversity increased with the sizes of the squids. Along growth, D. gahi shifted from crustaceans, mainly euphausiids to fish (Salilota australis) and squid (D. gahi and Histioteuthis sp.). Small to mid-sized I. argentinus and O. ingens consumed mostly two fish, two squid species D. gahi and Histioteuthis atlantica, two crustaceans Munida gregaria and Munida subrugosa and the Chaetognatha Sagitta elegans. All the three species show a high prey overlapping at similar sizes: Squid of smaller size (5-15. cm ML) fed mainly on crustaceans: D. gahi on euphausiids and squat lobsters (Munididae). Mid-sized squid fed mainly on fish, most frequently Gymnoscopelus sp. and S. australis, and larger I. argentinus and O. ingens fed mostly on squids, including cannibalism. 10 páginas, 7 figuras, 2 tablas, The new information reported in this paper is based on five maturing and mature females of the large-tuberculate octopus Graneledone macrotyla. These specimens were caught in bottom trawl surveys ATLANTIS 2009 (February 24 to April 1, 2009) and ATLANTIS 2010 (March 9 to April 5, 2010) carried out off the Argentinean Economic Exclusive Zone. Capture depth ranged from 475 to 921 m and sea bottom temperature between 2.8 and 3.1 °C. Development of the complex ovary, oviducts, and oviducal glands during gonadic maturation is described. The absence of spermathecae in the oviducal glands and the presence of fertilized eggs inside the ovary suggested that fertilization took place within the ovary. Histological techniques showed the presence of four types of oocytes. Maturing oocyte size–frequency distribution was polymodal. Fluorescence reaction showed that atresia occurred in both early and later oocyte maturation stages. Atresia affected 48–55 % of the initial number of oocytes. The maximum observed potential fecundity was estimated at 250–300 eggs. G. macrotyla showed a group-synchronous ovulation pattern, regulative atresia, and a batching spawning pattern with a few egg batches spawned intermittently over an extended period of spawning.

Ninety cephalopod specimens were collected in 71 of the 132 hauls (54%) during the bottom trawl survey ATLANTIS 2009 undertaken between 24 February and 1 April 2009. The surveyed area was the zone between parallels 44° and 48° South, east of the Argentinean Exclusive Economic Zone down to the 1500 m depth contour on the high seas of the Southwest Atlantic. The collection was composed of 16 species of squids and 5 of octopods. The best represented groups were Histioteuthidae (5 species) and Octopodidae (5). The most abundant species were Gonatus antarcticus (25.5%), Histioteuthis atlantica (11.1%), and Muusoctopus eureka (8.9%), which were also the most widely encountered. The geographic and/or bathymetric distribution ranges of 9 species are extended, and this is the first record of Galiteuthis glacialis outside circumpolar Antarctic waters. Our data show that several species, mainly of octopuses, penetrate the area studied as the plume of cold sub-Antarctic waters is pushed far into the Southwestern Atlantic by the Falkland (Malvinas) Current.

For the past nine years, the issue of protecting biodiversity in the deep sea in areas beyond national jurisdiction – the high seas (HS) – has been widely debated by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and in other international fora. The UNGA adopted a series of resolutions, beginning with Resolution 59/25 in 2004, which called on high seas fishing nations and regional fisheries management organisations (RFMOs) to take urgent action to protect vulnerable marine ecosystems (VMEs) from destructive fishing practices in areas beyond national jurisdiction (Rogers & Gianni, 2010; UNGA, 2004). In December 2006 the UNGA adopted resolution 61/105 on Sustainable Fisheries, calling on flag states, RFMOs and arrangements to immediately act for the sustainable management of fish stocks and to protect VMEs from destructive fishing practices (Portela et al., 2010; UNGA, 2007). In 2009, the UNGA adopted Resolution 64/72 reaffirming the 2006 resolution and made it clear that the measures called for in Resolution 61/105 should be implemented, consistent with the 2009 FAO International Guidelines for the Management of Deep-Sea Fisheries in the High Seas (FAO Deepwater Guidelines), by flag states and RFMOs. Resolution 64/72 placed particular emphasis on conducting impact assessments of bottom fisheries on the high seas (UNGA, 2009: Paras 119–120).

Nontraditional approach to explain the thermoelectric cooling is suggested . It is based on the Le Chatelier-Braun thermodynamic principle. New effect of cooling and heating of junction of two materials (barrierless thermoelectric cooling) is theoretically predicted, and this effect is different from the Peltier effect (barrier thermoelectric cooling). The suggested thermoelectric effect must be displayed always at the finite values of the junction surface heat conductivity eta. Barrierless thermoelectric effect occurs even in the case when the conducting materials are identical with the same Peltier coefficients. It is shown that both barrier and barrierless thermoelectric cooling effects always exist simultaneously in the general case. The reasons proving reversibility of the thermoelectric cooling process are resulted.

"Las series de tiempo del intervalo de paso en el caminado humanonormal se caracterizan por tener ligeras fluctuaciones multifractales.En este trabajo se discuten las propiedades multifractales de talesseries de niños sanos comparadas con las de sujetos jóvenes sanos.El máximo, asimetría y ancho del espectro multifractal se han usadopara medir la complejidad de las series de tiempo de caminado.Las series de niños pequeños tienen espectros multifractales cuyaanchura disminuye según la edad del niño se incrementa, hasta quetales anchos se acercan a los de los jóvenes sanos. Los resultadosindican que la maduración de la dinámica del caminado no estácompletamente desarrollada incluso a los 7 años de edad, es hastalos 11 a 14 años que la dinámica del caminado se aproxima a losvalores observados en adultos jóvenes sanos. Un análisis de asimetríamuestra que los espectros de los jóvenes son casi simétricos, losespectros de los niños pequeños son muy asimétricos, los niños menoresde 7 años tienen un espectro desviado hacia la derecha yllega a ser casi simétrico según la edad se incrementa. Se discutenlas posibles aplicaciones clínicas del análisis multifractal de las seriesde tiempo de caminado."

El autor del artículo expone una serie de reflexiones sobre la necesidad de fomentar el pensamiento crítico en los/as estudiantes de la UNAE, con objeto de que puedan detectar algunos de los micromachismos existentes en la sociedad actual y adoptar una postura personal ante la violencia de género simbólica que se esconde tras los mismos. Para ello, se toman dos elementos sustanciales que guían el relato: el primero es el origen histórico de la costumbre de regalar rosas a las mujeres el día 8 de marzo; el segundo, la descripción de una actividad desarrollada en la asignatura “Enseñanza y Aprendizaje del Medio Social II”, consistente en analizar la letra de una canción de reguetón y reflexionar sobre ella. The author of the paper presents some reflections about the need to promote the critical thinking in UNAE students, so that they can perceive some micromachisms which exist in the actual society and assume a personal attitude in the face of the symbolic gender violence that hides behind them.
