The osseodensification (OD) technique differs from conventional milling for dental implant installation in that it preserves the prepared bone and compacts it toward the apex and lateral walls of the socket, resulting in bone compaction. By enabling autografting, bone expansion, and high implant insertion torques, OD has become an increasingly popular option. The aim of this clinical case report is to demonstrate the predictability of combining OD with guided bone and tissue regeneration (GBR/GTR) techniques for bone expansion in the maxilla with reduced thickness, while avoiding other reconstructive surgeries. The report presents the treatment of a 32-year-old female patient who had cosmetic concerns regarding the anterior maxillary region. The patient was using an adhesive prosthesis with pontic on tooth 13 fixed between teeth 12 and 14. After the case was planned, it was decided that bone expansion in the region would be performed using the OD technique. The implant installation (AR Torque, 3.5×11.5 mm, Conexão®) and guided bone regeneration (GBR) were done with the assistance of L-PRF (Stick Bone, associated with L-PRF membrane). Following the osseointegration period, a provisional resin crown was fabricated, and a collagen matrix membrane (Mucoderm®) was used to increase vestibular soft tissue volume and shape the patient’s gingival profile. After a period of 120 days, the final crown was created and observed for a span of 5 years. The results showed stability of the case along with maintaining its esthetic and satisfactory function. The use of the osseodensification technique coupled with a connective tissue graft substitute has been anticipated for a long time. It has proven to be an excellent alternative to autogenous grafts.

The aim of this study was to determine whether there are differences in the attitudes of Dentistry School Professors from two universities, one private and one public, concerning HIV-positive patients or HIVpositive health care professionals. A questionnaire was handled to all professors at the Araçatuba Dental School of São Paulo State University - FOA-UNESP (public) and Lins Dental School of the Piracicaba Methodist University - FOL-UNIMEP (private). When asked if they would be willing to be treated by an HIV-infected health care professional, 38.9% of the 77 professors at FOA-UNESP replied that they would accept only non-invasive treatments and 13% would not accept any kind of treatment; the same applied to 42.4% and 15.2% of the 33 FOL-UNIMEP professors. Among the 54 professors at FOA-UNESP and 27 at FOL-UNIMEP providing clinical service, only 31.5% and 18.5% stated that they treat HIV-infected persons like any other patient. The results were very similar in both schools. Although they reported that they taught their students not to act in a discriminatory manner towards HIV-positive patients, the professors themselves showed prejudice towards infected patients and professionals. Consequently, this topic must be further debated in the academic milieu.

The solids were characterized by XRD, N-2 adsorption, TGA, XPS, TPD-NH3 and FTIR-Pyridine. Results indicated a specific surface area of 144 and 108 m(2)/g and an average pore diameter of 44 and 76 angstrom to NB and NB-AL respectively. The solids presented similar density of acid sites (6.0 for NB and 5.7 mu molNH(3)/m(2) for NB-AL), but different strength distribution of the acid sites. Moreover, the fraction of Bronsted acid sites on NB was 27%, whereas on NB-AL it was only 2%. Concerning the catalytic tests, the highest conversion of xylose for NB and NB-AL (99.0 and 91.1%, respectively) was achieved for the reactions at 160 degrees C in water/isopropanol mixture, whilst the highest selectivities to furfural were obtained in reactions with water at 160 degrees C (60.1% to NB and 35.1% to NB-AL). Finally, using water as solvent, the selectivity to furfural increased with both catalysts at the highest temperature, though the carbon balance decreased CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO - CNPQ FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - FAPESP COORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DE PESSOAL DE NÍVEL SUPERIOR - CAPES Fechado

Ammonia synthesis reactors operate in conditions of high pressure and high temperature. Consequently, the flow inside these reactors always presents interaction between components in the feed mixture. A modeling accounts these interactions with pressure, temperature and the molar fraction is essential to converter simulation more realistic. The compositional approach based on cubic equations of state provides the influences of the component of a gas mixture using mixing rules and binary interaction parameters. This multicomponent description makes the model more robust and reliable for properties mixture prediction. In this work, two models of ammonia synthesis reactors were simulated: adiabatic and autothermal. The fitted expression of Singh and Saraf was used. The adiabatic reactor model presented a maximum relative error of 1.6% in temperature and 11.4% in conversion while the autothermal reactor model presents a maximum error of 2.7% in temperature, when compared to plant data. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis in input variables of both converter models was performed to predict operational limits and performance of the Models for Ammonia Reactor Simulation (MARS).

It was one of the most important inventions in 20th century. Moreover, the process has a variety of temperatures and pressures, going from 1 atm to 300 atm, and from 200 K to 810 K. The ammonia production takes place in reactors from 150 to 300 atm and 600 to 800 K with 30 % of conversion, because it is highly exothermic. Besides, ammonia is a polar gas and hydrogen is a quantic gas in these conditions. Therefore, the prediction of composition, temperature and pressure inside ammonia converters using appropriate models is important. Furthermore, many reaction rates were proposed for ammonia synthesis. However, most of the expressions used chemical activity without computing compositional interactions between components. So, the modeling of reactors using a rigorous thermodynamic model was proposed. The Peng Robinson and Soave Redlich Kwong expressions were used in Singh and Saraf rate expression. Two modes of operations were modeled: adiabatic (which reaction releases heat without removal) and autothermal (non isothermal operation). The catalyst activity was fitted to EoS modeling. Both models were validated with plant data and they presented good reliability. The adiabatic model presented maximum error of 1.6 % with temperature and 11.4 % with conversion. On the other hand, autothermal model presented maximum error of 2.7 % with temperature. Moreover, the sensitivity analysis of input variables was proposed in both models. The adiabatic operation showed more sensitive to inlet pressure and temperature variations, while the autothermal reactor presented higher conversions and better energy removal. In final part, the estimation of properties in mass boundary layer were made. The values of mass diffusion were low due to high pressure and external resistance was significant. However, when it was compared to internal resistance, the resistance computed by effectiveness factor was dominant in ammonia synthesis reactor Mestrado Sistemas de Processos Químicos e Informática Mestre em Engenharia Química CNPQ 131744/2016-0

Starting from alpha- and beta-lapachones, in this work we compared the biological and theoretical profile of several oxyran derivatives of lapachone as potential trypanocidal agents. Our biological results showed that the oxyrans tested act as trypanocidal agents against Trypanosoma cruzi with minimal cytotoxicity in the VERO cell line compared to naphthoquinones. The oxyran derivative of alpha-lapachone (7a) showed to be one of the most potent compounds. In our molecular modeling study, we analyzed the C-ring moiety and the redox center of beta-lapachone molecule as the moieties responsible for the trypanocidal and cytotoxic effects on mammalian cell line. The computational methods used to delineate the structural requirements for the trypanocidal profile pointed out that the transposition of the C-ring moiety of beta-lapachone, combined with its oxyran ring, introduced important molecular requirements for trypanocidal activity in the HOMO energy, HOMO orbital coefficient, LUMO density, electrostatic potential map, dipole moment vector, and calculated logP (clogP) parameter. This study could lead to the development of new antichagasic medicines based on alpha-lapachone analogs.

The assignment of the diazo site in products of the reaction of p-toluenesulfonylhydrazine with β-lapachone, 3,4-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-2H-naphtho[1,2-b]pyran-5,6-dione, and other 1,2-naphthoquinones in methanol solution at room temperature has been accomplished using 1H,13C HMBC and 1H,15N HMBC NMR experiments. Only one diazo-naphthalenone product was isolated in yields ranging from 50–100% from each reaction. The site of diazo substitution of β-lapachone and derivatives is the 1-position, in contrast to substitution at the 2-position in 4-MeO-1,2-naphthoquinone. Steric factors, rather than electronic factors, control the reaction site. Along with 2-diazo-1(2H)-naphthalenone, an additional product isolated from the reaction of p-toluenesulfonylhydrazide with 1,2-naphthoquinone was 2-diazo-4-hydroxy-1(2H)-naphthalenone. Confirmation of the formation of 6-diazo-2,2-dimethyl-2,3,4,6-tetrahydro-2H-benzo[h]cromen-5-one, obtained from β-lapachone, was achieved using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The investigation of trypanocidal effects against Trypanosoma cruzi and cytotoxicity in VERO cell line of several oxyranes structurally related to beta-lapachone, nor-beta-lapachone, alpha-lapachone, and 4-methoxy-1,2-naphthoquinone is described. It was found that the oxyranes 10 derived from alpha-lapachone showed an approximately the same trypanocidal activity of beta-lapachone. In addition, all the oxyranes showed less cytotoxicity than the corresponding naphthoquinones.

The Community Health Agent (CHA) is the fundamental link in the process of articulation and communication between the Family Health Team (FHT), the local service, and the assisted community. Working in the primary health care, the agent is socially important to promote and expand the care to Dental Health (DH). With this in mind, we aimed at knowing the profile of the professional participating in the Family Health Program (FHP) in Araçatuba-SP in regard to the parameters established by the Ministry of Health (MH), and their opinions concerning the difficulties, satisfactions, and motivations for the work they perform. Because CHAs are active members in Dental Health Team (DHT), we proposed to analyze their integration with the other professionals and the actions developed in that area. A quantiqualitative approach was made by means of a self-administered semistructured questionnaire, with post-categorization of the responses. It was observed that, most of them were female, were in the required age group, had high education level, lived in the area for a reasonable time, and were responsible for an estimated number of families. The CHA hiring occurred within the legal parameters, and despite some variations and a few provisional contracts, many have participated in the FHP since its early days. Great part of them participated in the introductory training program. However, there is no continuing training. They carry out the activities within their competence, with excessive emphasis on certain practices and absolute absence of others. In the opinion of most of them, the difficulties arise from the weather conditions, receptivity, appointment making and referral...(Complete abstract click electronic access below)
