Herein, we review the magnetic, superconducting and structural phase diagrams of the title systems, with an emphasis on our recent results form magnetic and structural neutron diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and system, and indicate the occurrence of frustrated phase separation on a nanoscopic length scale in the La2-xSrxCuO4 system with O < x ≲ 0.05. 139La nuclear quadrupole resonance measurements. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of a model to enable Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) counselors and others to support VR consumers to self-regulate problem solving to enable them to set career and job goals, and design, implement and evaluate progress toward their goal(s).Study design: The study occurred in the context of a local VR office with five consumers with disabilities who were receiving VR services. The study utilized a multiple-baseline across subjects design. Participants worked through the support model to set a job or career goal and to design an action plan to reach that goal. Once baseline data were collected, all participants implemented their action plan and data were collected to determine progress toward that goal.Results: All participants, except one, made progress toward his or her goal and indicated satisfaction with the process.Conclusions: Findings support the potential of this model to increase VR consumers' capacity to self-direct problem solving and goal setting activities related to getting a job. The temperature and pressure dependence of the thermal displacements and lattice parameters were obtained across the gamma-->alpha phase transition of Ce using high-pressure, high-resolution neutron and synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction. The estimated vibrational entropy change per atom in the gamma-->alpha phase transition, DeltaS(gamma-alpha)(vib) approximately (0.75+/-0.15)k(B), is about half of the total entropy change. The bulk modulus follows a power-law pressure dependence that is well described using the framework of electron-phonon coupling. These results clearly demonstrate the importance of lattice vibrations, in addition to the spin and charge degrees of freedom, for a complete description of the gamma-->alpha phase transition in elemental Ce.

CsLnMnSe(3) (Ln = Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Y) and AYbZnQ(3) (A = Rb, Cs; Q = S, Se, Te) have been synthesized from solid-state reactions at temperatures in excess 1173 K. These isostructural materials crystallize in the layered KZrCuS(3) structure type in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm. The structure is composed of LnQ(6) octahedra and MQ(4) tetrahedra that share edges to form [LnMQ(3)] layers. These layers stack perpendicular to [010] and are separated by layers of face- and edge-sharing AQ(8) bicapped trigonal prisms. There are no Q-Q bonds in the structure of the ALnMQ(3) compounds so the formal oxidation states of A/Ln/M/Q are 1+/3+/2+/2-. The CsLnMnSe(3) materials, with the exception of CsYbMnSe(3), are Curie-Weiss paramagnets between 5 and 300 K. The magnetic susceptibility data for CsYbZnS(3), RbYbZnSe(3), and CsYbMSe(3) (M = Mn, Zn) show a weak cusp at approximately 10 K and pronounced differences between field-cooled and zero-field-cooled data. However, CsYbZnSe(3) is not an antiferromagnet because a neutron diffraction study indicates that CsYbZnSe(3) shows neither long-range magnetic ordering nor a phase change between 4 and 295 K. Nor is the compound a spin glass because the transition at 10 K does not depend on ac frequency. The optical band gaps of the (010) and (001) crystal faces for CsYbMnSe(3) are 1.60 and 1.59 eV, respectively; the optical band of the (010) crystal faces for CsYbZnS(3) and RbYbZnSe(3) are 2.61 and 2.07 eV, respectively.

Measurements of the specific heat of Mg11B2 from 1 to 50 K, in magnetic fields to 9 T, give the Debye temperature, Theta = 1050 K, the coefficient of the normal-state electron contribution, gamma(n) = 2.6 mJ mol(-1) K-2, and a discontinuity in the zero-field specific heat of 133 mJ mol(-1) K-1 at T(c) = 38.7 K. The estimated value of the electron-phonon coupling parameter, lambda = 0.62, could account for the observed T(c) only if the important phonon frequencies are unusually high relative to Theta. At low T, there is a strongly field-dependent feature that suggests the existence of a second energy gap, about 4 times smaller than the major gap.

Magnesium diboride, MgB2, was recently observed to become superconducting at 39 K, which is the highest known transition temperature for a non-copper-oxide bulk material. Isotope-effect measurements, in which atoms are substituted by isotopes of different mass to systematically change the phonon frequencies, are one of the fundamental tests of the nature of the superconducting mechanism in a material. In a conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superconductor, where the mechanism is mediated by electron-phonon coupling, the total isotope-effect coefficient (in this case, the sum of both the Mg and B coefficients) should be about 0.5. The boron isotope effect was previously shown to be large and that was sufficient to establish that MgB2 is a conventional superconductor, but the Mg effect has not hitherto been measured. Here we report the determination of the Mg isotope effect, which is small but measurable. The total reduced isotope-effect coefficient is 0.32, which is much lower than the value expected for a typical BCS superconductor. The low value could be due to complex materials properties, and would seem to require both a large electron-phonon coupling constant and a value of mu* (the repulsive electron-electron interaction) larger than found for most simple metals.

In situ neutron diffraction experiments show that at pressures above 2 kilobars, cubic zirconium tungstate (ZrW2O8) undergoes a quenchable phase transition to an orthorhombic phase, the structure of which has been solved from powder diffraction data. This phase transition can be reversed by heating at 393 kelvin and 1 atmosphere and involves the migration of oxygen atoms in the lattice. The high-pressure phase shows negative thermal expansion from 20 to 300 kelvin. The relative thermal expansion and compressibilities of the cubic and orthorhombic forms can be explained in terms of the "cross-bracing" between polyhedra that occurs as a result of the phase transition.

Without a doubt, a supervisor's most valuable resources are the employees placed in trust with that supervisor. It is the challenge of every supervisor to focus the vast energies of this resource on accomplishing the mission of the organization. Within the context of new employees, what happens during those first days of employment may determine how well they will contribute, if at all, to accomplishing this organizational mission. While new employee assimilation has many factors that affect its success or failure, the nature of communication that occurs with the supervisor is critical. As was shown in this study, new employees do, in fact, have a specific set of communication needs of which the supervisor should be cognizant.
