As the demands of customers in the modern industry increased, the number of products, and the variety of components has increased. These issues have led to difficulties in product development and production. Modularization of products has advantages such as cost reduction, product development time reduction, and production time reduction. Modular design of products has been studied in the design activities of the modern industry. In this study, a modular design method is proposed to design a modular product based on axiomatic design (AD) and design structure matrix (DSM). AD and DSM are efficiently integrated into the proposed method. Functional requirements and design parameters are defined based on the Independence Axiom of AD, and the zigzagging process of AD is employed for the decomposition of the functional requirements (FRs) and design parameters (DPs). The design sequence is established based on the design matrix. Coupled or functionally close DPs are grouped into a module (Module 1). These modules are efficiently used in the design sequence. DSM is used to modularize the design parameters of the lowest level of axiomatic design. DSM is constructed based on physical interfaces and numerical clustering algorithms are used to identify strongly related components. They are grouped into a module (Module 2). Module 2 is exploited for production and management. Therefore, these two modules for different purposes can be used to increase efficiency in the design and production process. The proposed method is applied to two automobile parts such as the suspension system and cooling system. The results are discussed from the viewpoint of usefulness.

Water-based immersion lithography has been introduced for achieving O(10 nm) spatial resolution in the semiconductor industry. The major challenges remaining in immersion lithography are to decrease the tail of the main lens and to prevent residual droplet formation after the main lens while increasing the relative speed of the silicon wafer with respect to the main lens. Here, we propose a novel method to control the shape of the immersion lens by applying Marangoni stress using volatile vapor. Furthermore, we experimentally and theoretically observed that the stability and wafer speed of the immersion lens are increased by the vapor-driven solutal Marangoni effect.

GPR40/FFAR1 is a G-protein-coupled receptor predominantly expressed in pancreatic β-cells. GPR40 agonists are known to stimulate insulin secretion and reduce circulating glucose levels in a glucose-dependent manner. We investigated IDG-16177(ID11014A) as a GPR40 agonist and confirmed this drug has linear pharmacokinetic properties and is more potent than fasiglifam from in vitro and in vivo studies. In vitro metabolic stability of IDG-16177 was evaluated in mouse, rat, dog, monkey and human microsomes. IDG-16177 was metabolized mainly by CYPs in mouse, rat, monkey and human while it was metabolized mainly by UGTs in dog. Oral bioavailability of IDG-16177 was 88.1 ~ 109.9% in SD rats. The Cmax and AUC values of IDG-16177 increased in a dose-proportional manner in the dose range of 1 ~ 10 mg/kg. IDG-16177 was also well exposed in monkeys after 3 mg/kg administration. Glucose lowering effect was determined by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and in various type 2 diabetes rats, respectively. IDG-16177 showed dose-dependently improvement of glucose tolerance in a single dosing study using SD and Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats. IDG-16177 1mg/kg showed more effective in glucose tolerance than fasiglifam 10mg/kg in repeated dosing study of Zucker Diabetic Fatty (ZDF) rats. In this study, Cmax,ss and AUCss of IDG-16177 showed approximately 10 times lower than those of fasiglifam. In the crashworthiness of the vehicle, the head injury criterion is the most significant factor in the injury rate. Crash optimization has been employed to enhance the head injury criterion value. Since the head injury criterion value is calculated from acceleration, a surrogate-model-based crash optimization method is generally used. However, when the number of design variables increases, the cost of analysis increases extremely. Conceptual design such as topology optimization is difficult to apply since it has many design variables. A crash optimization methodology that considers the head injury criterion value is proposed based on the equivalent static loads method. The proposed method calculates the head injury criterion value using the finite difference method, and the channel frequency classes filter during linear static-response structural optimization with the equivalent static loads. Two practical large-scale problems are solved to validate the proposed method. For the headform impact on the upper interior, size optimization is carried out to satisfy the constraint on the head injury criterion value while the mass is minimized. Topology optimization is performed in the case of the hood headform impact. The material distribution of the inner panel in the hood is determined to minimize the head injury criterion value.

A roof crush test has been utilized to reduce passengers’ injuries from a vehicle rollover. The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 216 and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) perform actual vehicle tests and evaluate the vehicle’s ratings. Nonlinear dynamic response structural optimization can be employed not only for achievement of a high rating but also minimization of the weight. However, the technique needs a huge computation time and cost because many nonlinear dynamic response analyses are required in the time domain. A novel method is proposed for nonlinear dynamic response structural optimization regarding the roof crush test. The process of the proposed method repeats the analysis domain and the design domain until the convergence criteria are satisfied. In the analysis domain, the roof crush test is simulated using a high fidelity model of nonlinear dynamic finite element analysis. In the design domain, a low fidelity model of linear static response structural optimization is utilized with enforced displacements that come from the analysis domain. Correction factors are employed to compensate the differences between a nonlinear dynamic analysis response and a linear static analysis response with enforced displacement. A full-scale vehicle problem is optimized with a constraint on the rigid wall force from the analysis in the design domain.

This paper presents a new discrete derivative method for adaptive notch filter (ANF)-based frequency estimators. ANF-based frequency estimators are widely used for online frequency estimation because of their small computation requirements and simple structures. A discrete-time derivative is usually required for the estimators because they are implemented in the discrete-time domain. However, conventional discretization processes may cause problems in calculating the derivative of the adaptive filter state. For example, a derivative needs to have a phase of 90°, but finite difference methods produce phase responses that are less than 90° in high-frequency ranges. This phenomenon causes inaccurate frequency estimation results in high-frequency ranges. A bilinear transform method can prevent the phase problem, but it has oscillating transient responses, which deteriorate the convergence properties of the estimated frequency. A new discrete derivative method that modifies the bilinear transform is proposed. The proposed method does not produce the oscillating transient response in the steady state. Moreover, the phase responses of this method remain at 90° even in high-frequency ranges. Therefore, the frequency estimators that use the proposed derivative method can accurately estimate the frequencies of input signals in various frequency ranges.

Background/Aims Gastric schwannomas are rare benign mesenchymal tumors that are difficult to differentiate from other mesenchymal tumors with malignant potential, such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors. This study aimed to evaluate the characteristic findings of gastric schwannomas via endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS). Methods We retrospectively reviewed the EUS findings of 27 gastric schwannoma cases that underwent surgical excision at Pusan National University Hospital during 2007 to 2014. Results Gastric schwannomas were mainly located in the middle third of the stomach with a mean tumor size of 32 mm. All lesions exhibited hypoechoic echogenicity, and 24 lesions (88.9%) exhibited heterogeneous echogenicity. Seventeen lesions (63.0%) exhibited decreased echogenicity compared to the normal proper muscle layer. Distinct borders were observed in 24 lesions (88.9%), lobulated margins were observed in six lesions (22.2%), and marginal haloes were observed in 24 lesions (88.9%). Hyperechogenic spots were observed in 21 lesions (77.8%), calcifications were observed in one lesion (3.7%), and cystic changes were observed in two lesions (7.4%). Conclusions During EUS, gastric schwannomas appear as heterogeneously hypoechoic lesions with decreased echogenicity compared to the normal proper muscle layer. These features may be helpful for differentiating gastric schwannomas from other mesenchymal tumors.

In order to realize the autonomous vehicle, it is necessary to have fast computing ability to process sensor information inputted in real time. Particularly, there is a limit in calculating an image input from a plurality of cameras using a general-purpose CPU. For this purpose, dedicated hardware acceleration technology have been applied in using deep learning technology for autonomous vehicles. I would like to consider hardware acceleration technology that is used to implement the deep learning technology of hardware developers worldwide quickly and efficiently.

We have previously reported amidopiperidine derivatives as a novel peptide deformylase (PDF) inhibitor and evaluated its antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, but poor pharmacokinetic profiles have resulted in low efficacy in in vivo mouse models. In order to overcome these weaknesses, we newly synthesized aminopiperidine derivatives with remarkable antimicrobial properties and oral bioavailability, and also identified their in vivo efficacy against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) and penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (PRSP).

The therapeutic effect of oral administration of Lactobacillus rhamnosus IDCC 3201 tyndallizate (RHT3201) on atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions in NC/Nga mice were investigated. After induction of dermatitis in NC/Nga mice with house-dust mite extract, each group was fed RHT3201 with 1 × 10(8) , 1 × 10(9) , or 1 × 10(10) cells orally once a day for 8 weeks. Dermatitis scores and frequency of scratching were improved by oral feeding with RHT3201. In contrast to the control group, RHT3201-fed mice showed significantly down-regulated mast cell numbers and serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) concentrations had significantly less IL4 in their axillary lymph node cells. The therapeutic effect of RHT3201 was found to be dose-dependent. These findings indicate that RHT3201 has potential for treating AD.

Monitoring of aerosol optical properties in high temporal and spatial resolution has been realized with the launch of Geostationary Ocean Color Imager(GOCI) and Meteorological Imager(MI) onboard the Communication, Oceanography, and Meteorology Satellite(COMS), also known as GEO-KOMPSAT(GK)-1 in 2010. In 2018, Advanced MI(AMI) will be launched with further enhanced capability onboard the GK-2A. GOCI-2 onboard GK-2B is planned to be launched in late 2019-early 2020 with Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer(GEMS). GEMS is a UV-visible spectrometer to monitor column concentration of trace gas including O 3 , NO 2 , SO 2 and HCHO, for the first time in high temporal and spatial resolution. In this study, results and plan to monitor atmospheric composition from geostationary earth orbit(GEO) are presented.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to assess Korean consumers' valuation for domestic rice and imported rice from China and the USA. Design/methodology/approach – In order to identify Korean consumers' willingness to pay (WTP) for domestic, Chinese, and US rice, the non-hypothetical experimental auction approach (i.e. the random nth price auction) was utilized. Auction participants were randomly assigned to three treatments: no labelling information, country of origin labelling information, and food miles labelling information to analyze the effects of differing labelling information on consumers' valuation. Findings – The results suggest that Korean consumers have a positive perception of and preference for domestic rice, particularly when country of origin information is provided. However, food miles information alone may not help consumers to distinguish between domestic and Chinese rice. Originality/value – The marketing of imported rice will increase since Korea will be opening its rice market under tariffication after 2015. Therefore, it is necessary for Korea and other exporting countries to identify the feasibility of marketing both domestic and imported rice, and also to investigate which rice from specific countries Korean consumers prefer. Therefore, the authors conducted the random nth price auction using real rice products and cash in transactions.

This paper presents an online tuning method for notch filter depths in industrial servo systems. Notch filters are commonly utilized to suppress resonances in servo systems. Using a damping ratio of notch-filter zeros is especially important when the resonance has a damped behavior. This paper develops an online tuning method to adjust the damping ratio of notch-filter zeros, by adjusting the depth parameter of a bi-quad notch filter. The developed tuning method uses the electrical current command of a servo system as an input to detect a resonance. When a resonance occurs, the tuning method increases the depth parameter to decrease the damping ratio of notch-filter zeros, and then the tuning method checks whether the resonance is suppressed. If the resonance is not suppressed and the depth parameter has not reached the upper limit, the tuning method repeats the process of increasing the depth parameter. After several iterations, an appropriate depth parameter is selected and the resonance can be suppressed. Experiments are performed using two servo systems which are coupled with a ball-screw-drive load and a belt-drive load, respectively. The resonance of the belt-drive load has a behavior that is more highly damped behavior than that of the ball-screw-drive load. Experimental results show that the resonances of both systems are successfully suppressed using the developed tuning method.

Frequencies of spontaneous mutation from inducible resistance to constitutive resistance were determined for the four clinical isolates of erythromycin-resistant enterococci, including one isolate with ermB gene and three clinical isolates with ermA gene. The rate of ermB mutation was higher than that of ermA mutation by more than 10 fold. Sequence analysis of the regulatory regions of erm genes revealed that mutation type of ermB was just point mutation, by contraries the mutation type of ermA was either deletion or tandem duplication. These results showed distinct characteristics in mutation patterns of ermB and ermA.

This paper presents a new filtering method for the discrete-time delay control (DTDC) method. The DTDC estimates unknown dynamics of a system using a time delay estimator (TDE). The TDE is based on the past expected unknown dynamics which is delayed by one sampling period. Therefore, the DTDC cannot properly compensate for the high frequency components of unknown dynamics. Moreover, the transfer gain of the TDE from unknown dynamics to the TDE error is more than 0 dB in the high frequency ranges. This means that the high frequency components of unknown dynamics can be amplified in the TDE error. A conventional solution of the high frequency unknown dynamics is applying a recursive structure to the DTDC law. The effect of the recursive structure is the same as that of a low-pass-filter, which attenuates the high frequency components of the DTDC law. However, the recursive structure may make the system response slow. This paper presents a new filtering method which attenuates the high frequency components of the estimated unknown dynamics only. The update law of the TDE is separated from the DTDC law and a recursive scheme is applied to this update law. Simulation results show that the proposed method can attenuate the high frequency components of the estimated unknown dynamics without slowing the system response down.

Background and Aims. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been accepted as a treatment modality for gastrointestinal epithelial tumors. Recently, ESD has been applied to resect subepithelial tumors (SETs) in the gastrointestinal tract, but clinical evidence on its efficacy and safety is limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of ESD for gastric SETs and to assess possible predictive factors for incomplete resection. Patients and Methods. Between January 2006 and December 2013, a total of 49 patients with gastric SET underwent ESD at our hospital. Clinicopathologic characteristics of patients and SETs, therapeutic outcomes, complications, and follow-up outcomes were evaluated. Results. The overall rates of en bloc resection and complete resection were 88% (43/49) and 84% (43/49), respectively. Complete resection rates in tumors originating from the submucosal layer were significantly higher than those in tumors originating from the muscularis propria layer (90% versus 56%, P=0.028). In multivariate logistic regression analyses, tumor location (upper third: odds ratio [OR] 12.639, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.087–146.996, P=0.043) and layer of tumor origin (muscularis propria: OR 8.174, 95% CI 1.059–63.091, P=0.044) were independently associated with incomplete resection. Procedure-related bleeding and perforation rates were both 4%. No recurrence was observed in patients with complete resection at a median follow-up period of 29 months (range: 7–83 months). Conclusions. ESD is an effective, safe, and feasible treatment for gastric SETs. The frequency of incomplete resection increases in tumors located in the upper third of the stomach and in those originating from the muscularis propria layer.

This paper presents an application of an adaptive notch filter (ANF) for resonance suppression in industrial servo systems. An on-line frequency estimator is utilized for estimating the resonant frequency. The current command of the servo system is an input to the frequency estimator. The ANF automatically changes its notch frequency according to the estimated resonant frequency values and suppress the resonance. Experiments are performed using an industrial servo system with a belt-drive type load for various load conditions. Results show that the controller with the developed ANF identifies the changes in the resonant frequency well and therefore successfully suppresses the resonance.

A new method of repairing Achilles tendons, which uses a small medial skin incision with a Bunnel-type suture, was performed on 14 patients, and the clinical results were found satisfying. In order to restore the Achilles tendon to its original length, restore tensile strength in the suture site, and minimize injury to the sural nerve, an operative procedure has been devised which uses a limited open repair with a Bunnel-type suture. We followed 14 patients who had undergone the new procedure for a mean interval of 26 months after the injury. They returned to work in six weeks and to playing sports in 25 weeks. There were no cases of late rerupture nor injuries to the sural nerve. This technique approximated the preinjury length and resting tension of the musculotendinous apparatus and minimized sural nerve injury.

Background No studies have been published comparing the U- and H-type methods of the TVT SECUR (TVT-S) procedure. Objective Our aim was to compare the efficacy and safety of the two types of TVT-S for female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Design, setting, and participants Women with urodynamic SUI were enrolled in this 12-mo multicenter randomized study. Intervention Subjects were randomly allocated to either the U- or H-type method of TVT-S. Measurements Pre- and postoperative evaluations included a standing stress test, the Sandvik questionnaire, the Incontinence Quality of Life (I-QOL) questionnaire, and the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ-FLUTS). Patients' satisfaction and complications were evaluated. Objective and subjective cures were defined as no leakage on the stress test and responses on the Sandvik questionnaire, respectively. We compared the surgical outcomes between the two methods. Results and limitations Of 285 women, 144 had the U-type method and 141 had the H-type method. Objective cure rates were 87.5% for the U-type method and 80.1% for the H-type method ( p =0.091). Subjective cure rates were 77.1% for the U-type method and 75.7% for the H-type method ( p =0.786). Improvement in I-QOL and domain scores of the ICIQ-FLUTS (filling and incontinence sum, QOL score), and patients' satisfaction favored the U-type method. There were three cases of intraoperative vaginal wall perforation, one case of increased bleeding, and three cases of temporary postoperative retention. A power calculation was not performed, and some baseline characteristics were not balanced between the two methods. Conclusions Both methods of TVT-S provided comparable cure rates for female SUI. However, QOL and treatment satisfaction favored the U-type method. Trial registration The protocol of this study was not registered.

Aerosol optical depth (AOD) retrieval from satellite remote sensing is essential to understand aerosol influence on earth climate system. An algorithm to retrieve AOD from geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellite allows us to monitor sources, sinks and transport of aerosols in higher temporal resolution. In this study, using 30‐day visible channel data from the Multi‐Functional Transport Satellite‐1 Replacement (MTSAT‐1R) to estimate surface reflectance and DIScrete Ordinate Radiative (DISORT) model (6 S) to calculate look up tables (LUT), AODs are retrieved at 0.55 μm over East Asia. The retrieved results are compared with the values of AERONET and MODIS. The calculated correlation coefficient(R) during March 2006 with AERONET showed 0.85 at Anmyon and 0.40 at Shirahama. The R for MODIS ranged from 0.2 to 0.96. This algorithm has relatively larger retrieval error than other multiple‐channel algorithm due to the limitation in characterizing surface reflectance and aerosol property.

The antibacterial activities of clindamycin, synercid, telithromycin, linezolid and mupirocin were evaluated against erythromycin-resistant Gram-positive coccal clinical isolates collected in Korean hospitals. In Staphylococcus aureus, synercid, linezolid and mupirocin were the most active agents. Against coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS), synercid, linezolid and mupirocin were also active. Telithromycin and synercid resistance was common against enterococci, only linezolid and mupirocin were active. The reason of low activity of telithromycin against staphylococci and enterococci is because most of the isolates were constitutively resistant to erythromycin. Synercid, telithromycin, linezolid and mupirocin were active against streptococci.

In an automatic assembly production system, it is emerging as a vital concern to ensure the flexibility of the part supply process which is one of the important assembly steps but limits the flexibility of the system in accordance with model change. This paper deals with a flexible parts array system for arraying parts by providing three-dimensional vibration to a parts tray which has relief forms designed to trap the parts in the desired orientation. There will be a unit supplying parts employing a matrix-structured parts box storage rack and enabling 18 parts to be supplied in order to easily cope with model change. In addition to this, a vibratory unit which uses two pairs of unbalanced masses is introduced for precise and stable three-dimensional vibration using controls of the rotating speeds of the unbalanced masses and the relative angles between unbalanced masses. The beating effect frequently used in arranging relatively complicated and heavy parts is theoretically examined and verified through experiment.

58세 여자환자가 하복부 통증과 혈변을 주소로 내원하였다. 환자 는 평소 변비증상이 없었으나, 장기간 여행을 앞두고 내원 하루 전 오 전 6시경에 임의로 글리세린 관장을 하였으며, 관장 30분 후부터 복 통과 혈변이 시작되어 내원 당일 인근 병원에 방문하여 시행한 구불 창자내시경검사(sigmoidoscopy)에서 궤양성대장염이 의심되어 본 원으로 전원되었다(Fig. 1A). 환자는 평소 정상적인 배변을 하였으 며 체중감소는 없었다. 과거력에서 3년 전 고혈압, 당뇨 진단 후 투 약 중이었으며, 가족력 및 사회력에서는 특이사항이 없었다. 내원 당 시 환자는 급성 병색이었으며 활력징후는 혈압 130/90 mmHg, 체온 36.5C, 맥박수 82회/분, 호흡수 20회/분이었다. 결막은 창백하지 않았으나 구강점막의 건조소견이 관찰되었으며 흉부 진찰에서는 특 이 소견이 없었다. 복부진찰에서 장음은 정상이었고 복부는 부드러웠 으며 만져지는 종물이 없었고 압통 및 반발통도 없었다. 말초혈액검사 에서 백혈구 10,760/mm (중성구 66%), 혈색소 12.4 g/dL, 혈소판 186,000/mm이었다. 혈청생화학검사에서 총 단백은 7.6 g/dL, 알 부민은 4.3 g/dL, 총 빌리루빈 0.8 mg/dL, AST 44 IU/L, ALT 24 IU/L, 알칼리 포스파타제 175 IU/L, γ-GT 12 IU/L이었으며, BUN 12.7 mg/dL, creatinine 0.7 mg/dL였다. 복부 단순X선촬영에서 특 이 소견은 관찰되지 않았다. 내원 당일 본원에서 시행한 복부 전산화 단층촬영에서 상부직장과 구불결장 장벽 전체의 조영 감소 및 심한 비후가 관찰되었으나(Fig. 2) 괴사 및 천공은 없었고, 구불결장 근위 A Case of Ischemic Colitis Presenting as Bloody Diarrhea after Glycerin Enema

Russell body gastritis was first defined in 1998, but not many cases have been reported since then. The exact causes and process of this condition are unknown yet; however, considering the reported cases, it has been highly suggested to have correlation with Helicobacter pylori infection. Russell body gastritis has a non-specific clinical presentation of gastritis such as gastric mucosal edema in the macroscopic view. It can be mistaken as xanthoma, signet ring cell carcinoma, or a malignant lymphoma including mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma and plasmocytoma. Russell body gastritis features polyclonal immunoglobulin and is differentiated from Mott cancer, of which immune globulin has monoclonal aspect. Authors report here two cases of Russell body gastritis with examined endoscopic findings as well as a review of related literature on the association of all reported cases of Russell body gastritis with H. pylori infection.
