Preventing dangerous and costly episodes of DKA is a goal of diabetes care, but clinicians lack tools to predict DKA events. We sought to compare performance characteristics of an RNN model with that of a LR model to predict hospital admission for DKA in the next 180 days. We developed an RNN model using training (n=1453) and testing (n=1530) datasets restricted to youth 30 days. In this sample, 6% (90/1530) of youth were admitted for DKA over 180 days. The model considered >500 features per quarter from discrete medical record data and free-text clinical documents. For comparative purposes, we developed an LR model using a testing dataset derived from the same sample (n=1388). Familial benign chronic pemphigus or Hailey-Hailey disease (HHD) is an autosomal dominant genodermatosis with complete penetrance that was initially described by dermatologists and brothers Howard and Hugh Hailey.1 This disorder results from mutations in the ATP2C1 gene on chromosome 3q21, which encodes the Golgi-associated Ca2+ ATPase. Mutations in this gene lead to abnormal intracellular Ca2+ signaling leading to impaired processing of junctional proteins needed for cell-cell adhesion. The generalized or disseminated form of HHD is rarely documented, but appears to typically be induced by microbial colonization and secondary infections. In particular, Staphylococcal infection can potentiate acantholysis and may lead to severe widespread blistering.2, 3, 4, 5 Other articles suggest that the generalized condition can be triggered by a Koebner-like reaction or even sensitivity to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.3 Treatment for generalized HHD varies.2, 3, 4, 5 Oral corticosteroids are most commonly recommended for treatment; however, alternative interventions include oral retinoids, including etretinate,4 cyclosporine, methotrexate, dapsone, and topical tacrolimus.3 In nongeneralized HHD, there are a few published case reports of HHD treated successfully with low-dose naltrexone (LDN).6, 7, 8, 9

The development of a portable strontium lattice clock is discussed. Solutions to many of the engineering challenges required to build the next generation of portable and ultraprecise clocks will be presented. In particular, a) the realisation of a compact laser module which produces multiple stable laser frequencies required for the experiment and b) the progress made in the development of the atomics module.

Atomic clocks have been in common use since the 1950s and over this period the clock community has had two main goals: increasing the performance of the clocks and increasing their portability. At Birmingham we aim to compress a strontium optical lattice clock, a clock with an extremely high accuracy, into a portable package. Many novel approaches need to be employed to allow such a clock to operate with a favorable SWaP while maintaining the low instability and uncertainty that makes optical clocks a desirable frequency standard. The focus of this work is to use laser activation of a strontium compound as the atomic source for the clock. Previously work published by this group [1] demonstrated that it is possible to release the strontium atoms from strontium oxide successfully load a magneto-optical trap (MOT).
