We report the rare association of an aneurysm of a lateral right persistent trigeminal artery (Saltzman type II), bilateral aplasia of the pre-communicating segment of both posterior cerebral arteries and bilateral fetal posterior cerebral arteries, in a 64 years old woman who suffered from progressive diplopia and right abducens nerve palsy, most likely due to nerve compression in the latero-cellar space. Successful endovascular coils embolization of the aneurysm was performed, with no immediate complications. CT, MR and angiographic findings are presented. Although infrequent as single variations, the association of these three arterial variations has not been reported in literature to our knowledge, having special importance in the diagnostic workup and therapeutic procedures in a patient with an embolic stroke, as well as in the planification of intracranial endovascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Objective: to assess the intraneural anatomy of the deep branch of the ulnar nerve (DBUN) in the distal forearm in reference to its identification by means of minimal intraneural dissection during pronator quadratus nerve to DBUN transfers. Materials and methods: In 15 cadaveric forearms the ulnar neurovascular bundle was identified and attached to the subjacent muscles every one centimeter. Pisiform bone was used as reference. Intraneural proximal dissection of the deep branch of the ulnar nerve was performed under magnification (Olympus OME, 4-20x) and its intraneural position was registered using a quadrants scheme. Distance from pisiform to the origin of the dorsal cutaneous branch of the ulnar nerve (DCB) was measured and its intraneural position relative to DBUN was identified. Results: The DBUN could be identified up to 69mm (41-94) proximal to the pisiform and occupied the posteromedial quadrant of the ulnar nerve in 78% (67-87), 93% (92-93) and 100% of the cases in the 0-2, 3-6 and 7-9cm ranges, respectively. Distance from pisiform to the origin of the DCB was 63mm (52-83). The DBUN could be identified proximal to the origin of the DCB in 11 forearms, being located between the latter and the superficial branch of the ulnar nerve in all this cases. Conclusions: Intraneural topography of the DBUN in the most appropriate site for its identification during its anastomosis to the PQN is predictable in the majority of cases, which supports the viability of safe identification of the de DBUN by means of minimal intraneural dissection.

Angleton grass (Dicanthium aristatum) is the dominant Gramineae specie in the Sinu River Valley. Its root growth is limited by soil compaction, a mixed effect of high density and penetration resistance. With the aim to determine the effect of vertical tillage and fertilization over root biomass, soil density and penetration resistance, four different kinds of grasses (Mulato II, Toledo, Angleton and Estrella) were established on an inceptisol soil located at Turipaná Research Center, in Cereté, Córdoba, Colombia. Four vertical tillage treatments with three repeats were evaluated: two with rigid chisel, 30 cm - 60 cm and two with grassland renovator, horizontal distance 30 and 60 cm, and 30 cm depth. Two levels of fertilization were evaluated: F1: 300 kg ha-1 of DAP (18% N - 46% P2O5), 200 kg ha-1 of KCl (60% K2O) and 150 kg ha-1 of urea (46% N) and F2: 50% of the previous described treatment. In a split plot design experiment, the effect of vertical tillage and fertilization during 18 months over soil density, penetration resistance and root biomass growth were tested by ANOVA and average Duncan comparison. No independent effect of tillage or fertilization on grasses was observed, but there are significant interaction between tillage and grasses, fertilization and grasses and tillagefertilization and grasses. It is concluded that differences in the variables soil density, penetration resistance and root biomass were due to grazing effect and tillage-fertilization-grass interaction.

A cohort study was conducted in children diagnosed with septic shock and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Jose Luis Miranda Pediatric University Hospital in Santa Clara, Villa Clara, during the period from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2007, with the objective of identifying the influence of the hemodynamic treatment in their evolution. For that purpose, the treatment sustained in the guideline recommendations of the American College of Critical Care Medicine was applied. The cohort was composed of 132 patients with the diagnosis outlined above. The evolution was assessed according to discharge status – alive or deceased. The frequency of patients discharged alive increased significantly with increasing the amount of fluid administered in the first hour. Of all combinations of vasoactive drugs, dobutamine and epinephrine was associated with lower frequency of deaths. The development of the acute respiratory distress syndrome was not related to the amount of fluid administered in the first six hours; and the earlier the use of artificial ventilation, the lower the possibility of death, hence the impact of this measure on the favorable evolution of the patients.

Malnutrition is the set of clinical manifestations and anthropometric and biochemical alterations caused by an inadequate intake or the incorrect biological utilization (or both) of macro and micronutrients, causing that the nutritional requirements are not met. A prospective observational study was conducted from September 1 to November 30, 2010 in patients with acute malnutrition who were admitted to the Pediatric Department of the Dr. Antonio Penados del Barrio Hospital, in San Benito, Peten, Guatemala. The objective was to describe the clinical characteristics and evolution of acutely malnourished children. The study included all patients who met the criteria for acute, moderate or severe malnutrition. Of them, 62.5% were admitted with a weight-height index, as measured by the Z-score, of less than -3 (severe acute malnutrition), and 37.5% had a Z-score between -2 and -3 (moderate acute malnutrition); 75% of children were discharged alive with a normal nutritional status. Marasmic kwashiorkor was the most frequently clinical form of severe malnutrition observed in children between one and two years of age, without showing an incidence linked to gender. Pallor, anemia, glossitis, cheilitis and diarrhea were signs frequently observed at admission. The low educational level of the parents, the low per capita income, food taboos and mother's age (under 18) are conditions likely to favor the development of acute malnutrition; and it is after the sixth day of admission that the weight gain of children progressing to nutritional recovery becomes evident.

tétanos/complicaciones ,niño ,Medicine - Abstract
Tetanus is an acute disease of global distribution caused by tetanospasmin (a potent protein exotoxin produced by Clostridium tetani). It is characterized by generalized muscle spasms and acquired by the entering of spores into the body through wounds or trauma to the skin and mucosa. The objective of this article is to describe the clinical characteristics and evolution of a child diagnosed with tetanus, who, at age 11, was not vaccinated against the disease. He suffered, accidentally, an open fracture of the left forearm –gateway for the germ– which was contaminated with dirt and feces of horses. After six days of the completion of surgery, he began with the classical manifestations of the disease. A treatment with anti-tetanus serum was implemented for 15 days, and he presented, as a complication, serum sickness and surgical wound sepsis, which evolved into healing with proper and timely treatment.

Computer Science - Databases - Abstract
Most NoSQL systems are schema-on-read: data can be stored without first having to declare a Schema that imposes a structure. This schemaless feature offers flexibility to evolve data-intensive applications when data frequently change. However, freeing from declaring schemas does not mean their absence, but rather that they are implicit in data and code. Therefore, diagramming tools similar to those available for relational systems are also needed to help developers and administrators understanding NoSQL schemas. Visualizing diagrams is not practical if schemas contain hundreds of database entities, and exploration or query facilities are then needed. In schemaless NoSQL stores, data of the same entity can be stored with different structure which can increase the difficulty of having readable diagrams. NoSQL schema management tools should therefore have three main components: schema extraction, schema visualization, and schema query. Since that there exist four main NoSQL data models, it is convenient that such tools can be built on a generic data model that provide platform-independence to query and visualize schemas. With the aim of favoring the creation of generic database tools, the authors of this paper defined the U-Schema unified data model that integrates the four main NoSQL data models and the relational model. This paper is focused on querying NoSQL and relational schemas which are represented as U-Schema models. We present the SkiQL language designed on U-Schema to achieve a platform-independent schema query service. SkiQL provides two constructs: schema-query and relationship-query. The former allows to obtain information of entity or relationship types, and the latter that of the aggregations or references (relations among types). We will show how SkiQL was evaluated by calculating well-known metrics for languages and using a survey., Comment: 18 pages

Substance use disorder (SUD) significantly impacts public health, economics, and legal systems worldwide. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was initially developed in the late 1980s as a therapeutic approach for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), using bilateral stimulation to integrate traumatic memories with calming physiological responses. However, the effectiveness of EMDR in treating SUD remains unclear. This study aims to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the impact of EMDR therapy on craving reduction in individuals with SUD. The search was conducted using databases such as PubMed and Web of Science, focusing on studies that measured craving and employed EMDR interventions. Both random and fixed effects models were used to pool effect sizes, utilizing an R software meta-package (R-4.4.1). The study adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The results indicated a significant reduction in cravings among patients undergoing EMDR therapy. Specifically, under the fixed effect model, the standardized mean difference (SMD) was −0.866 with a 95% confidence interval ranging from −1.121 to −0.611 (z = −6.66, p < 0.0001). These findings may demonstrate the significant efficacy of EMDR therapy in decreasing cravings in people with SUD.

Astrophysics - Astrophysics of Galaxies - Abstract
Using simulated galaxies in their cosmological context, we analyse how the flaring of mono-age populations (MAPs) influences the flaring and the age structure of geometrically-defined thick discs. We also explore under which circumstances the geometric thin and thick discs are meaningfully distinct components, or are part of a single continuous structure as in the Milky Way. We find that flat thick discs are created when MAPs barely flare or have low surface density at the radius where they start flaring. When looking at the vertical distribution of MAPs, these galaxies show a continuous thin/thick structure. They also have radial age gradients and tend to have quiescent merger histories. Those characteristics are consistent with what is observed in the Milky Way. Flared thick discs, on the other hand, are created when the MAPs that flare have a high surface density at the radius where they start flaring. The thick discs' scale-heights can either be dominated by multiple MAPs or just a few, depending on the mass and scale-height distribution of the MAPs. In a large fraction of these galaxies, thin and thick discs are clearly distinct structures. Finally, flared thick discs have diverse radial age gradients and merger histories, with galaxies that are more massive or that have undergone massive mergers showing flatter age radial gradients in their thick disc., Comment: 15 pages, 14 figures.

This paper aims to examine the mapuche considerations about magical aggression in the context of interethnic relations established in the arauco-pampean area. The indigenous witchcraft beliefs are an interpretative system about the origin of the misfortune which had to be adjusted to incorporate within its boundaries the wingka otherness, native denomination of the European invaders. On the subject, the historical sources provide data that would seem contradictory at first sight. On the one hand, the indigenous people consider the wingka incapable of mastering the means necessary to carry out the magical aggression. On the other the belief that certain wingka would be capable of resorting to supernatural means to unleash epidemics. We seek to analyze these sources to deepen our conception of the indigenous perception of wingka otherness and how it was incorporated into their interpretative schemes about the origin of misfortune within the ethnogenetic process triggered by the European invasion.

Numerous investigations show the need to intervene with school children and young students in order to mitigate socio-educational difficulties such as social conflict, and public health problems such as sedentary lifestyles and childhood obesity. This study seeks to explain the rationale and protocol of an educational programme called “ACTIVE VALUES” as an intervention strategy for the reduction of sedentary lifestyles and the promotion of education in values in schools. The present research used a mixed methods approach with a quasi-experimental design of repeated measures (pre-test and post-test), with a non-randomised control group (CG) and an experimental group (EG). The sample was composed of approximately 250 students and 30 teachers from different autonomous communities in Spain, divided into EG and CG. The EG implemented a teaching methodology based on the incorporation of Active Breaks (AB) into the structure of the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model, during one academic year, while the CG used conventional teaching based on the direct instruction teaching technique. A specific two-stage professional development procedure was followed: (1) initial training and (2) continuing professional development (CPD). The fidelity of the programme was checked by observational analysis of the sessions which were analysed by two observers with expertise in educational research and active methodologies. Currently, “ACTIVE VALUES” is the first study that examines the effectiveness of an educational programme that integrates into the teaching methodology, elements that foster education in values and promote healthy lifestyle habits through physical-sports activity within the classroom.

Condensed Matter - Strongly Correlated Electrons - Abstract
We have investigated the low temperature phase of a Nd0.5Sr0.5MnO3 single crystal by x-ray resonant scattering at the Mn K-edge of the (3 0 0), (0 3 0) and (0 5/2 0) reflections. Strong resonances were observed for the s-s' channel in the (3 0 0) and (0 3 0) reflections and for the s-p' channel in the (0 5/2 0) reflection. These resonances show a p-periodicity on the azimuthal angle, having the intensity at the minimum position almost zero. The intensity dependence on the photon energy, azimuthal angle and polarisation dependencies has been analysed using a semi-empirical structural model. Contrary to previous claims of charge (Mn3+-Mn4+) and orbital ordering in this compound, our results show that the dipole resonant superlattice reflections can be explained by the presence of two types of Mn sites with different local geometric structure. One of the Mn sites is surrounded by a tetragonal-distorted oxygen octahedron whereas the other site has a symmetric octahedral environment. This model also establishes that no real space charge ordering is needed to explain the experimental data. Intermediate valence states according to a fractional charge-segregation Mn+3.42-Mn+3.58 were deduced., Comment: 40 pages, 12 figures Presented at the ESRF 14th users meeting, February, 2004. Every human being experiences emotions daily, e.g., joy, sadness, fear, anger. These might be revealed through speech—words are often accompanied by our emotional states when we talk. Different acoustic emotional databases are freely available for solving the Emotional Speech Recognition (ESR) task. Unfortunately, many of them were generated under non-real-world conditions, i.e., actors played emotions, and recorded emotions were under fictitious circumstances where noise is non-existent. Another weakness in the design of emotion recognition systems is the scarcity of enough patterns in the available databases, causing generalization problems and leading to overfitting. This paper examines how different recording environmental elements impact system performance using a simple logistic regression algorithm. Specifically, we conducted experiments simulating different scenarios, using different levels of Gaussian white noise, real-world noise, and reverberation. The results from this research show a performance deterioration in all scenarios, increasing the error probability from 25.57% to 79.13% in the worst case. Additionally, a virtual enlargement method and a robust multi-scenario speech-based emotion recognition system are proposed. Our system’s average error probability of 34.57% is comparable to the best-case scenario with 31.55%. The findings support the prediction that simulated emotional speech databases do not offer sufficient closeness to real scenarios.

Abstract Objective An e-portfolio was used to determine the optimal number of times students need to repeat a procedure before they are fully capable of performing it without supervision. The results were compared with the actual number of repetitions performed during the internship period. We also asked these students and their teachers about the optimal number of times each skill should be repeated before it could be considered fully acquired. The questionnaire was answered by 98.6% of the students and 70.3% of their teachers. Results Both students and teachers agreed on a similar optimal value for 16 out of the 21 clinical procedures selected; in the remaining 5, teachers thought that students needed to repeat the procedure more times than the number stated by students. When these optimal values were compared with the actual values recorded in the portfolio during the internships, it was found that about half of all clinical procedures were carried out fewer times than expected, thus providing important feedback about the rotation-based training process. Quantitative information collected in the portfolios revealed a moderate mismatch between students’ and teachers’ perceptions of training needs.

The Andalusian regional government approved on May 16th 2017 the "Strategy to Promote the ICT sector Andalucía 2020”. Linked to the objectives of the TIC2020 strategy, 15 indicators have been defined, which should serve as a basis for evaluating the impact of the Strategy. Among the defined indicators, the so-called "Synthetic Indicator of Conditions of Context of Development of the ICT Sector" is aimed at measuring the contribution of the Strategy to improving the conditions of the business environment for the Andalusian ICT sector. However, the TIC2020 Strategy does not include the method to be followed to obtain this Indicator. Thus, the objective of our research has been to define and apply a methodology for calculating the indicator. For this, a synthetic index based on simple aggregation with equal weights has been defined, for which a methodology based on the Japanese TANKAN index has been designed. As a result of all this, the Synthetic Index has been obtained for the year 2017, with a value of 9.81, as well as a work method that should serve as the basis for obtaining the index during the Strategy period.

Assessing emotional state is an emerging application field boosting research activities on the topic of analysis of non-invasive biosignals to find effective markers to accurately determine the emotional state in real-time. Nowadays using wearable sensors, electrocardiogram and thoracic impedance measurements can be recorded, facilitating analyzing cardiac and respiratory functions directly and autonomic nervous system function indirectly. Such analysis allows distinguishing between different emotional states: neutral, sadness, and disgust. This work was specifically focused on the proposal of a k-fold approach for selecting features while training the classifier that reduces the loss of generalization. The performance of the proposed algorithm used as the selection criterion was compared to the commonly used standard error function. The proposed k-fold approach outperforms the conventional method with 4% hit success rate improvement, reaching an accuracy near to 78%. Moreover, the proposed selection criterion method allows the classifier to produce the best performance using a lower number of features at lower computational cost. A reduced number of features reduces the risk of overfitting while a lower computational cost contributes to implementing real-time systems using wearable electronics.

Pipeline inspection is a topic of particular interest to the companies. Especially important is the defect sizing, which allows them to avoid subsequent costly repairs in their equipment. A solution for this issue is using ultrasonic waves sensed through Electro-Magnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) actuators. The main advantage of this technology is the absence of the need to have direct contact with the surface of the material under investigation, which must be a conductive one. Specifically interesting is the meander-line-coil based Lamb wave generation, since the directivity of the waves allows a study based in the circumferential wrap-around received signal. However, the variety of defect sizes changes the behavior of the signal when it passes through the pipeline. Because of that, it is necessary to apply advanced techniques based on Smart Sound Processing (SSP). These methods involve extracting useful information from the signals sensed with EMAT at different frequencies to obtain nonlinear estimations of the depth of the defect, and to select the features that better estimate the profile of the pipeline. The proposed technique has been tested using both simulated and real signals in steel pipelines, obtaining good results in terms of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE).

The Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI), implemented on the MetOp satellite series, represents a significant step forward in atmospheric forecast and weather understanding. The instrument provides infrared soundings of unprecedented accuracy and spectral resolution to derive humidity and atmospheric temperature profiles, as well as some of the chemical components playing a key role in climate monitoring. IASI collects rich spectral information, which results in large amounts of data (about 16 Gigabytes per day). Efficient compression techniques are requested for both transmission and storage of such huge data. This study reviews the performance of several state of the art coding standards and techniques for IASI L1C data compression. Discussion embraces lossless, near-lossless and lossy compression. Several spectral transforms, essential to achieve improved coding performance due to the high spectral redundancy inherent to IASI products, are also discussed. Illustrative results are reported for a set of 96 IASI L1C orbits acquired over a full year (4 orbits per month for each IASI-A and IASI-B from July 2013 to June 2014) . Further, this survey provides organized data and facts to assist future research and the atmospheric scientific community.

History of education ,LA5-2396 - Abstract
