Patients who cannot fully comply with conventional clinic-based rehabilitation (CR) sessions after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) may find additional internet-based sessions beneficial. These remote sessions include therapeutic exercises that can be done at home, potentially extending the reach of rehabilitation services to underserved areas, prolonging the duration of care and providing improved supervision. The study’s main purpose is to determine if the Knee Care at Home (KC@H) programme is more effective than conventional CR alone in improving patient-reported, clinician-reported and physical functional performance outcome measures after ACLR. Additionally, the trial assesses the significance of changes in outcome measures for clinical practice.This protocol outlines a randomised controlled trial for postoperative recovery following ACLR. Adult participants of both sexes who meet specific criteria will be randomly assigned to either the CR group or the KC@H group. Only the latter group will receive internet-based sessions of therapeutic exercises at home and CR sessions. A follow-up evaluation will be conducted for both groups 12 weeks after the intervention ends.The trial protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Universidade de Évora and complies with the Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association. All recordings will be stored on a secure server with limited access and deleted as soon as they are no longer needed.The KC@H programme is expected to be superior to conventional CR for patients recovering from ACLR across multiple outcome measures. Also, the programme has the potential to promote superior recovery and extend the reach and duration of care.Trial registration number: NCT05828355.

Background/objectivePhysical literacy assessment is considered a vital resource to decrease the prevalence of sedentary lifestyles and physical inactivity in children and adolescents worldwide. In Portugal, there is no physical literacy assessment tool for children under 15 years old. The main objective of this study was to carry out a translation and cultural adaptation of the Canadian Physical Literacy Assessment 2 (CAPL-2) into Portuguese, as well as to test its psychometric properties, in children between 8 and 12 years of age.MethodsThe questionnaires included in the CAPL-2 were translated using the translation-back-translation method and adapted to their context. The test–retest reliability, internal consistency, and confirmatory factor analysis of the CAPL-2 Portuguese version were analyzed in a sample of 69 and 138 students, respectively, from a school in the Alentejo region (Portugal).ResultsThe Portuguese version of the CAPL-2 questionnaires demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α: 0.713–0.979) and test–retest reliability ranging from moderate to nearly perfect in the motivation and confidence domain and knowledge and comprehension domain (ICC = 0.549–0.932). The results showed a good fit after adjusting for covariation paths (CMIN/DF = 1.382, p = 0.105, RMSEA = 0.053, CFI = 0.971, TLI = 0.955, NFI = 0.907).ConclusionThe CAPL-2 version of the questionnaires, translated and adapted to the Portuguese context, demonstrated validity and reliability, making them suitable for assessing physical literacy in children aged 8–12 years.

Introdução: O Padel é uma modalidade desportiva muito semelhante ao ténis. A sua prática tem aumentado de forma exponencial na última década, principalmente a prática amadora. À semelhança de outras modalidades desportivas, o Padel distingue-se por uma elevada exigência física, principalmente a nível cardiovascular, provocando alterações substanciais na frequência cardíaca (FC) dos seus praticantes. Contudo, a sua prática apresenta também alguns riscos associados, tais como riscos cardiovasculares, que podem ser prevenidos através da monitorização da variabilidade da frequência cardíaca (VFC), uma técnica não invasiva que nos fornece informação sobre a modulação autonómica. Através da análise da VFC, é possível retirar diversos biomarcadores, que de uma forma robusta nos vão indicar os níveis de saúde, bem-estar e resiliência ao stress. Não há, no entanto, estudos a nível mundial que caracterizem a VFC durante as partidas de Padel. Objetivos: Este estudo tem como objetivo a monitorização das respostas da VFC e a sua caracterização por meio de métricas lineares e não lineares durante três momentos: em repouso, durante o jogo e na recuperação. Método: Participaram neste estudo transversal vinte e sete jogadores amadores. A VFC foi registada através de um monitor RS800CX, de marca Polar. Para o estudo da VFC, foram utilizadas técnicas convencionais lineares, para analisar o domínio do tempo e o domínio da frequência, e para a análise das medidas não lineares, foram utilizadas técnicas específicas. Para a análise estatística foi utilizado o software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) V24.0. Resultados: Os resultados mostraram que uma partida de Padel impactou significativamente a modulação autonómica em jogadores amadores. Os vários parâmetros nos domínios do tempo, frequência e não lineares foram significativamente reduzidos durante o jogo, enquanto que apenas o alfa-2, HF e LF/HF aumentaram durante o jogo. Além disso, foi detetada uma alteração abrupta na modulação autonómica entre as avaliações do jogo e da recuperação, o que alerta para a necessidade de se repensar as práticas dos protocolos de retorno à calma, permitindo desta forma considerar que a monitorização da VFC pode ser utilizada como uma ferramenta fundamental no processo de tomada de decisão do treino. Conclusões: Foi possível concluir que este estudo é relevante, uma vez que, os vários tempos analisados permitem investigar a evolução de diferentes medidas da VFC nos domínios do tempo, frequência e não linear, esclarecendo a interpretação das variáveis, o que pode levar a uma readaptação das metodologias de treino principalmente no retorno à calma.
