Soil penetration resistance (PR) is the most common and practical way to estimate the level of soil densification/compaction. The use of PR is evident in most studies, but a large unexplained the differenttypes of penetrometers capable of quantifying it. Their principle is to measure the soil resistance when isinserting a cone-tipped rod to a specific depth. This study aimed to compare the use of two penetrometers/penetrographs to determine the PR of a clayey soil: one static penetrometer (impact) and another dynamic(digital). For this purpose, three treatments in distinct forage plants were evaluated: i) Cynodon nlemfuensis,ii) Cynodon dactylon and iii) Cynodon plectostachyus. Soil penetration resistance and soil moisture wereassessed at two depths, i.e., 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm. PR values ranged from 3.0 to 3.9 MPa between the areas,and soil moisture ranged from 13 to 14%. We found a high correlation between the results of penetrometerswith R2=0,93 and R2=0,95 at 0-20 and 20-40 cm, respect from impact and digital penetrometer. The ANOVAdid not show significant differences (0.05 scored in Tukey test) for the three selected treatments, indicatingsimilar efficiency of the penetrometers for determining PR values in clayey soil in Cerrado. The methods forevaluating soil penetration resistance can present equal values through the adjustment equation.

Aims Management zone delineation is one of the principles of precision agriculture. The spatial variability of the different environmental factors (soil and plants) is evident in several studies. The associations between soil physico-chemical properties and cowpea yield have been assessed, but scholars have usually reported a large unexplained variance of ranges between kriged maps. This suggests that a deeper exploration into the soil properties of these spatial interactions will help develop our understanding on how to reduce the number of soil property maps to delineate management zones and simplify interpretation. Methods This research proposes to investigate whether factorial kriging analysis can be used as an auxiliary variable in cokriging to estimate soil properties and cowpea, and what is the potential of spatial Fuzzy C-Means associated with factorial kriging analysis to delineate management zones. Results By using factor maps and spatial clustering, two management zones were classified. The kriged maps of soil properties were not efficient to delineate management zones. Conclusions Appropriately the results indicate that the proposed method is a practical tool to delineate management zones and it is more efficient than multiple soil properties maps.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-09-01 Multivariate split moving window (MSMW) is a tool to automate soil mapping and to assess uncertainty in soil boundaries. In this paper, we propose a new approach to locate soil boundaries. We investigated the potential of (i) MSMW associated with Mahalanobis D2 and (ii) split moving window (SMW) associated with magnetic susceptibility (MS) as tools for validation of soil boundaries. A transect was lined in Guatapará city (Sao Paulo state, Brazil), and 172 soil samples were collected from 86 locations, at a depth of 0–25 and 25–50 cm, for physical and chemical analyses. Additionally, categorical properties – geology, land use, and altitude – were assessed at the same sampling points. All the data were organized into four groups of properties (G1, G2, G3, and G4) and analyzed by principal component analysis, MSMW analysis – to delineate map units using D2 –, and SMW analysis using MS. MSMW and SMW were compared regarding their potential to locate soil boundaries along the transect. The MS peaks in SMW presented a correlation with peaks of t-statistics and D2 in MSMW: (r = 0.56; p < 0.01 – r = 0.69; p < 0.01) and (r = 0.55; p < 0.01 – r = 0.64; p < 0.01) for both depth intervals (0–25 cm and 25–50 cm), respectively. MSMW was more sensitive than SMW in the detection of soil boundaries in areas with lower clay content. Compared to conventional soil surveys, MSMW considerably improved the prediction of boundaries in mapping units. We concluded that the proposed method is a promising strategy for soil surveyors and can be used to assist pedological cartography. The root-lesion nematode, Pratylenchus brachyurus, is native to the Brazilian Cerrado region. Although soybean is not a natural host of this nematode, its advance on Cerrado areas has made this species become an important pathogen for the crop. This study aimed to assess the spatial distribution of P. brachyurus and its influence on soybean crop productivity in eastern Maranhao. For this, a sampling was conducted in 142 georeferenced points distributed in an area of 180 × 180 m. Plant and soil samples were collected, being the nematodes extracted and counted. Spatial patterns were estimated using geostatistical analysis. Anisotropic exponential models were adjusted for all studied variables with higher ranges in the direction of soil tillage and planting (135°). The increase in nematode population, as well as its spatial pattern, was related to the presence of roots of the host plant in the soil. The direction of soil tillage and planting influenced the distribution of nematodes in the area, being the main controlling factor of their spatial patterns.

The Brazilian agricultural business and industry are committed to continue to increase their participation in the global biomass produc- tion. The focus on fertilizers, not considering other soil functions, is changing to a new, more holistic paradigm. Therefore, the productivity of Brazilian agriculture can still be increased by improving and adopting appropriate soil management practices for each biome, and encom- passing environment protection. We need to develop integrated man- agement systems for land uses and conservation adapted to the variability of soils. The lack of diffusion of information and detailed soil mapping in the country brings about significant differences in the development of these topics. The complexity of the Brazilian biomes leads to a high level of uncertainty regarding soil response to agricul- tural interventions, and also impacts on carbon and microbiological soil dynamics. Monitoring impacts and conservation of these biomes is crucial, their soils are rich in ecobiosystems and their degradation will have negative impacts on climate, water and soils, local and globally. Despite the importance of all disciplines, at first, to normalize the issues it is absolutely necessary to have detailed soil survey information to make the best decision on all areas, from management and planning of agriculture to the conservation of ecosystems.

The use of no-till conservationist agricultural systems as well as intercropping in the Cerrado biome are practices that increase soil organic matter (SOM) due to the deposition of straw. This study aimed to quantify the carbon stock and organic fractions of a latosol under off-season monoculture (Sorghum bicolor and Urochloa ruziziensis) and intercropping (S. bicolor-U. ruziziensis) systems, in Rio Verde, state of Goiás, Brazil. Soil samples were collected from different layers: 0-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm. The following variables were determined: organic carbon content, carbon stock, dry matter and fractions of organic matter (labile and mineral). The results showed that the organic fractions of the soil are modified according to the adopted management. Intercropping of S. bicolor and U. ruziziensis increased the carbon stock, with the presence of more labile organic fractions on the soil surface, while the use of U. ruziziensis enhances the production of recalcitrant organic fractions, promoting greater preservation of the soil organic matter.

O estudo tem como objetivo realizar um levantamento da geracao de pneus inserviveis no ano de 2018, bem como analisar a destinacao final dado pelas empresas e a fiscalizacao dos orgaos publicos competentes, na cidade de Capanema, Para. O mesmo foi realizado atraves de entrevistas nos orgaos competentes a gestao do municipio e quinze empresas, atribuidas a revenda, troca, recapagem e recauchutagem, juntamente com as informacoes obtidas no banco de dados do Departamento Nacional de Trânsito (DENATRAN), onde foram coletadas informacoes sobre a frota de veiculos, na qual serviu como base para a estimativa da quantidade de pneus inserviveis gerados do ano de 2018. Desse modo foi observado atraves do questionario que a maior parte das empresas vendem cerca de 0 a 50 pneus/mes, e a troca entre 51 a 100 pneus/mes, o descarte entre 0 a 50 pneus/mes. As empresas entrevistadas armazenam os pneus em locais fechados, e relatam que destinam em sua maioria para a prefeitura do municipio, que por sua vez encaminhado para o lixao municipal. Apesar das empresas estarem enquadradas dentro da resolucao CONAMA no 416/09, foi notado que existe uma porcentagem que nao esta em conformidade, portanto se faz necessario ampliar parcerias das empresas do ramo de pneus com os demais orgaos ambientais para o cumprimento do plano de gerenciamento de coleta, armazenamento e destinacao de pneus inserviveis (PGP) seguindo a resolucao supracitada, pois se constatou que municipio ainda nao possui um descarte adequado e sustentavel desses residuos.

Thus, the best way to estimate the spatial pattern of soil erosion must be identified, in which the process uncertainties are also taken into consideration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the spatial and temporal uncertainty of soil loss under two scenarios of sugarcane harvest management: green cane (GC) and burnt cane (BC). The study was carried out on a 200-ha area, in Tabapua, Sao Paulo State, Brazil. A regular 626-point sampling grid was established in the area, with equidistant intervals of 50 m and a final plant density of about 3.3 samples per ha. The probability that the soil loss would exceed the tolerable limit of 6.67 t ha(-1) yr(-1) was estimated for each management scenario and after the five harvests. The temporal uncertainty was determined by integrating the estimated annual probabilities, representing the harvests. Areas with soil loss risks above the threshold were identified based on probability maps, generated from the individual and combined dichotomous variables. Soil losses from the BC were highest, during all five harvests. With the exception of the 5th harvest and the entire cultivation cycle under GC, all soil loss estimates were spatially dependent. From the 4th harvest under GC, the probability of the soil loss exceeding the threshold was above 80 % in zero percent of the area, whereas, for BC, the probability exceeded 80 % in 40 % of the area. The production cycle allowed the delimitation of priority areas for the adoption of conservation practices in each management. In the BC, areas with steeper slopes were more likely to exceed the threshold with lower uncertainties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the spatial and local uncertainty in predicting depletion rates of soil nutrients (P, K, Ca, and Mg) by soil erosion from green and burnt sugarcane harvesting scenarios, using sequential Gaussian simulation (SGS). A regular grid with equidistant intervals of 50 m (626 points) was established in the 200-ha study area, in Tabapua, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The rate of soil depletion (SD) was calculated from the relation between the nutrient concentration in the sediments and the chemical properties in the original soil for all grid points. The data were subjected to descriptive statistical and geostatistical analysis. The mean SD rate for all nutrients was higher in the slash-and-burn than the green cane harvest scenario (Student's t-test, pMg>K>P. The SD rate was highest in areas with greater slope. Lower uncertainties were associated to the areas with higher SD and steeper slopes. Spatial uncertainties were highest for areas of transition between concave and convex landforms. Neste sentido, o presente trabalho objetivou avaliar o desempenho dos métodos geoestatísticos: krigagem ordinária e simulação sequencial gaussiana na predição espacial do diâmetro médio do cristal da goethita com 121 pontos amostrados em uma malha de 1 ha com espaçamentos regulares de 10 em 10 m. Após a análise textural e da concentração dos óxidos de ferro, calcularam-se os valores do diâmetro médio do cristal da goethita os quais foram analisados pela estatística descritiva e geoestatística; em seguida, foram utilizadas a krigagem ordinária e a simulação sequencial gaussiana. Com os resultados avaliou-se qual foi o método mais fiel para reproduzir as estatísticas, a função de densidade de probabilidade acumulada condicional e a estatística epsilon εy da amostra. As estimativas E-Type foram semelhantes à krigagem ordinária devido à minimização da variância. No entanto, a krigagem deixa de apresentar, em locais específicos, o grau de cristalinidade da goethita enquanto o mapa E-Type indicou que a simulação sequencial gaussiana deve ser utilizada ao invés de mapas de krigagem. Os mapas E-type devem ser preferíveis por apresentar melhor desempenho na modelagem. In precision agriculture it is necessary to assess the quality of the maps of soil attributes. This paper aimed to evaluate the performance of geostatistical methods: ordinary kriging and sequential Gaussian simulation on spatial prediction of mean diameter of the goethite crystal in a regular grid with 121 points collected in a grid of 1 ha with regular spacing of 10 to 10 m. After the particle size and concentration analysis of iron oxides the values of the mean diameter of the goethite crystal were calculated. These were analysed by descriptive statistics and geostatistics, ordinary kriging and sequential Gaussian simulation was used for production of maps. With the results which evaluated the method is more faithful to make statistics, the cumulative probability density function conditional epsilon statistics εy. E-Type estimates were similar to ordinary kriging, due to the minimization of the variance. However, the ordinary kriging did not perform well in specific locations for crystallinity of goethite, while the E-Type map by sequential Gaussian simulation should be used instead of kriging maps. O conhecimento dos padrões espaciais desses óxidos auxilia a compreensão das interrelações de causa e efeito com os atributos do solo. Nesse sentido, a qualidade das estimativas espaciais produzidas pode alterar os resultados obtidos e, por consequência, as interpretações dos padrões espaciais obtidos. O presente estudo teve o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho dos métodos geoestatísticos de estimativas (KO) e simulações sequenciais gaussianas (SSG) na caracterização espacial de teores de óxidos de Fe, goethita (Gt) e hematita (Hm), em uma pedoforma côncava e outra convexa. Foram coletadas 121 amostras de solos em cada pedoforma de um Argissolo em pontos com espaçamentos regulares de 10 m. Os teores de óxidos de Fe foram obtidos por meio de difração de raios-X. Os dados foram submetidos a análises geoestatísticas por meio da modelagem do variograma e posterior interpolação por KO e SSG. A KO não refletiu a verdadeira variabilidade dos óxidos de Fe, hematita e goethita, demonstrando ser inapropriada para a caracterização espacial dos teores dos óxidos de Fe. Assim, o uso da SSG é preferível à krigagem quando a manutenção dos altos e baixos valores nas estimativas espaciais é necessária. O desempenho dos métodos geoestatísticos foi influenciado pelas pedoformas. Os mapas E-type devem ser recomendados em vez de mapas de KO para os óxidos de Fe, por serem ricos em detalhes e práticos na definição de zonas homogêneas para o manejo localizado em frente de KO, sobretudo em pedoforma côncava. The clay minerals goethite and hematite are iron oxides serving as indicators of the soil environment, with great influence on the soil physical and chemical properties. Knowledge of spatial patterns of these oxides can help understand the interrelationships of cause and effect with soil properties. In this sense, the quality of the spatial estimates can affect the results and consequently the interpretation of the spatial patterns. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the geostatistical estimation methods by ordinary kriging (OK) and conditional stochastic simulations (SGS) in the characterization of spatial concentration of the iron oxides goethite (Gt) and hematite (Hm) in a concave and in a convex landform. From each landform, 121 soil samples of an Alfisol were collected at points with a regular spacing of 10 m. The iron oxide content was obtained by X-ray diffraction. The data were subjected to geostatistical analysis by modeling the variogram and later interpolation by OK and SGS. The OK did not reflect the true variability of the iron oxides hematite and goethite and is therefore inappropriate for the spatial characterization of the iron oxide concentrations. Thus, the use of SGS is preferable to kriging when the maintenance of high and low values in the spatial estimates is required. The performance of the geostatistical methods was influenced by the landform. For iron oxides, E-type maps should be recommended instead of OK maps, for being rich in detail and practical to define homogenous zones for localized managing for OK, particularly in concave landforms. R ESU M O Uma das necessidades da agricultura moderna e a predicao da variabilidade espacial dos atributos dos solos em escalas mais detalhadas, visando o gerenciamento sustentavel e a otimizacao das praticas de manejo dos solos. Associada ao conhecimento da variabilidade dos atributos do solo e ao mapeamento das formas do relevo, a modelagem matematica tem auxiliado no planejamento agricola. Objetivou-se entao, no presente trabalho, caracterizar a variabilidade espacial de atributos fisicos e quimicos de Latossolo e Argissolo utilizando-se a classificacao numerica e o modelo digital de elevacao em duas areas, identificadas por duas pedoformas distintas: pela convexa, para o Latossolo (158 ha) e por meio da linear, para o Argissolo (172 ha). Foram retiradas 53 amostras no Latossolo e 57 amostras no Argissolo e realizada analise multivariada de agrupamentos dos atributos estudados a partir de suas distâncias euclidianas. Esta analise caracterizou, por meio de dendogramas e juntamente com os modelos digitais de elevacao para os diferentes solos, grupos mais homogeneos em Argissolo e menos homogeneos para o Latossolo em pedoforma convexa. Esses metodos quantitativos mostraram que as pedoformas condicionaram o padrao espacial dos atributos dos solos. The mathematical model associated with knowledge of variability of soil attributes and mapping of relief forms has helped in agricultural planning. In this regard the aim of this study was to characterize the spatial variability of physical and chemical properties of Oxisols and Ultisols using numerical classification and the digital elevation model. Two distinct landforms: convex for the Oxisol (158 ha) and linear for the Ultisol (172 ha). 53 samples from the Oxisol and 57 samples from the Ultisol were taken. Multivariate analysis of clusters of attributes studied from their euclidean distances was performed. This analysis by dendograms along with digital elevation models for different soils characterized was more homogeneous in Ultisol groups, and less homogeneous for the Oxisol in convex landform. These quantitative methods showed that the landforms conditioned the spatial pattern of soil attributes.

O feijão-caupi é uma das principais culturas leguminosas do nordeste, tendo grande importância socioeconômica para o sistema de produção da agricultura familiar. É consumido sob as formas de grãos secos e verdes, além de seus caules e ramos serem usualmente utilizados na alimentação animal. Neste sentido, o presente trabalho objetivou verificar qual das cultivares de feijão-caupi se desenvolve melhor na região de Belém e estimar as correlações fenotípicas entre as variáveis biométricas avaliadas. O experimento foi conduzido na Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia / UFRA – Belém-PA. Foram utilizadas quatro cultivares de feijão-caupi: BR3-Tracuateua, BRS Urubuquara, BRS Milênio e Pretinho, em um delineamento com blocos ao acaso contendo quatro repetições para avaliar as seguintes características biométricas: número de ramos planta-1 (NR), comprimento das hastes (CH), número de inflorescências planta-1 (NI) e o número de folhas planta-1 (NF). Por meio da análise de variância foi realizada uma correlação entre as características biométricas para cada cultivar. Assim, nas condições em que o experimento foi realizado, verificou-se que a cultivar Pretinho apresentou-se menos produtivo para o número de ramos em relação às cultivares: BR3-Tracuateua e BRS Milênio. Além disso, apesar das cultivares apresentarem desempenho semelhante, são recomendados novos experimentos com maior número de acessos e repetições.
