1. KIT-19: A Comprehensive Korean Instruction Toolkit on 19 Tasks for Fine-Tuning Korean Large Language Models

Abstract

Instruction Tuning on Large Language Models is an essential process for model to function well and achieve high performance in specific tasks. Accordingly, in mainstream languages such as English, instruction-based datasets are being constructed and made publicly available. In the case of Korean, publicly available models and datasets all rely on using the output of ChatGPT or translating datasets built in English. In this paper, We introduce \textit{KIT-19} as an instruction dataset for the development of LLM in Korean. \textit{KIT-19} is a dataset created in an instruction format, comprising 19 existing open-source datasets for Korean NLP tasks. In this paper, we train a Korean Pretrained LLM using \textit{KIT-19} to demonstrate its effectiveness. The experimental results show that the model trained on \textit{KIT-19} significantly outperforms existing Korean LLMs. Based on the its quality and empirical results, this paper proposes that \textit{KIT-19} has the potential to make a substantial contribution to the future improvement of Korean LLMs' performance.

Caution: this paper may include material that could be offensive or distressing. The advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) necessitates the development of training approaches that mitigate the generation of unethical language and aptly manage toxic user queries. Given the challenges related to human labor and the scarcity of data, we present KoTox, comprising 39K unethical instruction-output pairs. Abstract

Glycosidases are ubiquitous enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of glycosidic linkages in oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates. These enzymes play a vital role in a wide variety of biological events, such as digestion of nutritional carbohydrates, lysosomal catabolism of glycoconjugates, and posttranslational modifications of glycoproteins. Abnormal glycosidase activities are associated with a variety of diseases, particularly cancer and lysosomal storage disorders. Owing to the physiological and pathological significance of glycosidases, the development of small molecules that target these enzymes is an active area in glycoscience and medicinal chemistry. Research efforts carried out thus far have led to the discovery of numerous glycosidase-targeting small molecules that have been utilized to elucidate biological processes as well as to develop effective chemotherapeutic agents. In this review, we describe the results of research studies reported since 2018, giving particular emphasis to the use of fluorescent probes for detection and imaging of glycosidases, activity-based probes for covalent labelling of these enzymes, glycosidase inhibitors, and glycosidase-activatable prodrugs. 19. Ternary Nanohybrids Comprising N‑Doped Graphene and WSe2–WO3 Nanosheets Enable High-Mass-Loading Electrodes with Long-Term Stability for Hydrogen Evolution.

Abstract

In this study, we demonstrated a strategy for fabricating unique 2D ternary nanohybrids comprising N-doped graphene (NG) and in-plane WSe2–WO3 (W–W) heterojunction nanosheets (NG/W–Ws) through heat treatment/oxidation processes using a graphene/PANI/WSe2 precursor. PANI served as an exfoliating and N-doping agent and played a crucial role along with graphene in developing a high effective surface area and pore volume. The NG/W–Ws showed a single kinetic reaction (the Volmer–Heyrovsky step) with a single onset potential for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and decreased overpotentials; this was attributed to the intercalated NG. Density functional theory calculations indicated that NG decreases the energy gap between the LUMO and HOMO levels, and the differential Gibbs free energy of atomic hydrogen on the catalyst surface was close to zero. Therefore, the NG/W–Ws presented a linear relationship between their electrocatalytic performance (e.g., onset potential and overpotential) and mass loading (thickness). The total resistance and capacitance of the NG/W–Ws decreased and increased, respectively, with increasing electrode thickness, highlighting the synergy between the NG and W–W components. We believe that the proposed strategy will ensure the facile fabrication of multicomponent 2D heterostructured nanohybrids for high mass-loading electrocatalyst systems and will contribute to the practical commercialization of 2D nanohybrids as electrocatalysts. Abstract

Background: Nusinersen is an antisense oligonucleotide drug that modulates pre–messenger RNA splicing of the survival motor neuron 2 (SMN2) gene. It has been developed for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Methods: We conducted a multicenter, double-blind, sham-controlled, phase 3 trial of nusinersen in 126 children with SMA who had symptom onset after 6 months of age. The children were randomly assigned, in a 2:1 ratio, to undergo intrathecal administration of nusinersen at a dose of 12 mg (nusinersen group) or a sham procedure (control group) on days 1, 29, 85, and 274. The primary end point was the least-squares mean change from baseline in the Hammersmith Functional Motor Scale–Expanded (HFMSE) score at 15 months of treatment; HFMSE scores range from 0 to 66, with higher scores indicating better motor function. Secondary end points included the percentage of children with a clinically meaningful increase from baseline in the HFMSE score (≥3 points), an outcome that indicates improvement in at least two motor skills. Results: In the prespecified interim analysis, there was a least-squares mean increase from baseline to month 15 in the HFMSE score in the nusinersen group (by 4.0 points) and a least-squares mean decrease in the control group (by –1.9 points), with a significant between-group difference favoring nusinersen (least-squares mean difference in change, 5.9 points; 95% confidence interval, 3.7 to 8.1; P Conclusions: Among children with later-onset SMA, those who received nusinersen had significant and clinically meaningful improvement in motor function as compared with those in the control group. 22. Radiation risk perception and its associated factors among residents living near nuclear power plants: A nationwide survey in Korea

Abstract

There has been increased interest in researching risk perception of radiation to implement successful risk communication, particularly given the recent worldwide nuclear policy movement regarding nuclear energy. This study aimed to investigate characteristics of risk perception among residents living near normally operating nuclear power plants in South Korea by identifying factors associated with risk perception. A survey was conducted with face-to-face interviews for 1200 residents aged 20–84 years by gender- and age-stratified random sampling. Risk perception was associated with trust perception in nuclear safety, but was not highly correlated with benefit perception for utilizing nuclear power. Relatively high risk perception was observed in women, older age groups, and residents not having experience of nuclear-related education or work. This association remained after adjusting for other factors including benefit perception, trust perception, and psychological distress. In addition to these individual characteristics, risk perception was also associated with a residential district's own unique context, indicating that a strategy of risk communication should be developed differently for residents facing nuclear-related circumstances. Given that risk perception can be changed, depending on social values such as safety culture and economic setting, further studies are required to understand the changing characteristics of radiation risk perception.
