Career indecision is a substantial challenge for multicultural adolescents in South Korea. This study investigated the role of acculturation stress in adolescents and their parents in multicultural families on career decisions in South Korea. Perceived career barriers by adolescents and career-related behaviors of their parents were included as mediators. Using national panel data from 1695 cases longitudinally collected over the 3 years, the mediation analysis was conducted. The results showed that acculturation stress experienced by both adolescents and parents negatively predicted the adolescents' career decisions. In addition, a sequential mediation effect of parental career-related behaviors and adolescents' career barriers was found in the relationship between parental acculturation stress and adolescents' career decisions. These results highlight the importance of acculturative stress experienced by families, and not just by individuals, in understanding the career development of multicultural adolescents. The implications of this study's findings are discussed.

Previous cross-sectional studies have shown that acting with awareness, one of the five facets of mindfulness, buffered the degree of positive association between disordered eating cognition and disordered eating behavior. The present cross-sectional study examined whether other facets of mindfulness moderated the relationship between disordered eating cognition and disordered eating behavior in a nonclinical sample of women. Three hundred and five college undergraduate women (mean age of 20.29 years old) completed self-report measures online that were used for the present study. Results revealed that greater acting with awareness and describing attenuated the positive relationship between disordered eating cognition and disordered eating behavior. Conversely, greater observing was found to amplify the degree of the aforementioned relationship. This study investigated the role of a therapeutic presence in metaverse counseling, considering the growing interest in virtual reality psychotherapy. To examine the relationship between therapeutic presence and working alliance over time in metaverse counseling, we conducted a multilevel analysis with sessions at level 1, clients at level 2, and therapists at level 3. The dataset consisted of 75 sessions, nested within 25 clients and seven therapists. The study revealed that therapeutic presence positively affected the working alliance, at the between-sessions (within individual clients) and between-clients levels (across different clients). The findings also indicated that, during the early stages of treatment, a higher level of therapeutic presence in a session was associated with a stronger working alliance for that particular session. The final model explained approximately 45% of the working alliance variance. The implication for the potential influence of a therapeutic presence was discussed particularly during the initial sessions of metaverse counseling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the mediation effects of social capital on the associations between the quality of relationship, intimacy in particular, with college friends on social media and loneliness during college‐to‐work transition of Korean college students. Longitudinal data were collected from three surveys with a 6‐month interval. The first wave of the survey was completed by 521 participants; 110 graduates participated in the second wave, and 175 in the third wave. Latent growth modeling analysis revealed that the linear growth function produced a better fit than the no‐growth models for intimacy on social media, social capital, and loneliness. While intimacy on social media and bonding capital increased during the three‐time interval, bridging capital and loneliness decreased. In addition, the slope of intimacy on social media was positively related to the slopes of bridging and bonding capital, both of which, in turn, had a negative association with the slope of loneliness. Despite extensive research supporting the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions, the understanding of the dynamic connections between various mindfulness facets, particularly across diverse cultures, remained limited. This study aimed to investigate the networks among mindfulness aspects across different cultural backgrounds and their individual associations with mental health and well-being. Using the data collected from 710 undergraduate students in Hawaii (445 Asian Americans, 265 European Americans), we constructed sparse networks for each group to investigate their centrality index. To compare the overall structures of these networks, we utilized permutation-based tests. In addition, we used relative weight analysis to evaluate the distinct contributions of each mindfulness facet to positive and negative mental health outcomes. The results indicated similar trends in both racial groups, emphasizing the importance of specific mindfulness aspects like describing and acting with awareness within the mindfulness construct. However, notable variations were observed, particularly in how observing and nonjudging facets related among Asian Americans. In addition, acting with awareness and nonjudging showed substantial inverse associations with negative mental health outcomes across groups, whereas the observing aspect displayed positive connections with anxiety and stress among Asian Americans. The findings suggest which aspects are fundamental to mindfulness, aiding in a nuanced understanding of the construct. They also emphasize the importance of acknowledging cultural diversity in both mindfulness research and its clinical applications.
