For long time various types of communicable diseases were biggest killer diseases globally. But now a days trend become changing towards increased prevalence of chronic diseases due to changing their diet pattern, lifestyle and behavioral pattern. In these chronic diseases Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is the Gastro-intestinal disorder defined by recurrent troublesome heart-burn and regurgitation. Patient with GERD can be medicated empirically with Antacids and proton pump Inhibitor’s but in most of the cases patient do not respond to such treatment absolutely and several adverse effects arises after prolonged use. Ayurvedic texts classifies the broad spectrum of Amlapitta into Urdhwag and Adhog Amlapitta in which GERD shows similarity with Urdhwag Amlapitta on the basis of causes and symptoms. Aim and Objectives: The current review article illustrates the mode of action of Ayurvedic procedures (Shodhana Chikitsa) and formulations (Shamana Chikitsa) which is safe and effective for GERD (Urdhwag Amlapitta) Material and Methods: Ayurvedic texts referred are Charak Samhita, Yog Ratnakar, Bhaisjya ratnavali and contemporary modern texts and published manuscripts. Discussion: Detailed protocol treatment for Amlapitta in the form of Shodhana and Shamana Chikitsa discussed in terms of drugs and diet, should be applied considering the association of Dosha. Conclusion: This review article will helpful to Ayurveda scholars, academicians, clinicians and researchers for the future prospect to plan the research work on same topics.

The liver abscess is the most frequent visceral abscess caused by a parasite or bacterial infection in low and middle-income countries. A liver abscess can cause fever, chills, night sweats, malaise, nausea or vomiting, right shoulder ache, right upper quadrant pain, cough, dyspnea, anorexia, etc. A 20 years old male patient presented with symptoms of fever, chills, malaise, right shoulder pain, and right upper quadrantpain.The patient was treated with Virechan Karma (therapeutic purgation) followed by oral Ayurvedic medicines such as Varunadi Kwatha, Kanchanar Guggulu, and Aarogyavardhini Vati. Pathyaapathy (wholesome-unwholesome diet) based on Ayurveda perspectives was also advised to the patient. The total duration of the treatment was four months, and follow-up was done for one month. Improvement was assessed based on relief in the symptoms and abdomen USG. Complete relief in all symptoms was noted after completion of the treatment. The USG findings revealed a reduction in hypoechoic lesion to size 5.1*5.1 cm with calcified margins in the right lobe segment VIII of the liver. Any complications or adverse events due to treatment were not observed during the treatment period. This case report demonstrates the effectiveness of Ayurvedic approaches in managing Liver abscesses.

The Ayurveda- Traditional medicine is also known as folk medicine, indigenous medicine, Indian system of medicine. The Ayurveda medical care, such as daily regime, life style are being practiced since ancient time. The WHO mentioned that these are helpful in prevention, improvement or treatment of physical and mental illness. In present scenario, human being is affected with number of contagious diseases, allergic diseases, auto-immune diseases, chronic diseases. There is no definitive treatment are available for such diseases. Further, the result of available treatment is not very encouraging. Hence, there is a search for alternative and traditional modalities for the prevention by enhancing the immunity which is safe and cost effective. Most of the diseases are able to affect the human due to their low diseased resistance power (immune compromised person). The term VyadhiKshamatva in Ayurveda has unique importance in regards immunity enhance by preventing the disease.

Shalakya Tantra has mentioned proper diet to take in particular disease which is necessary to enhance the effect of treatment and prevent the disease and also useful procedures which are part of Dinacharya to maintain routine health. The aim is to evaluate the role of Pathya- Apathya and dietary regimen mentioned in Shalakya Tantra to prevent the supraclavicular disease. Relevant Ayurveda and modern literature, available information on internet etc, were searched. The dietary advice and various Dinacharya modalities gives nourishment to the supra clavicular region and cures ailments of related and also provides preventive and curative benefits.

The beauty and attraction of individual depends upon skin health including physical and psychological health. Switra is the common depigmentation disorder described among the varieties of Kustha (Integumentary diseases) in Ayurvedic classics. Switra is correlated with Vitiligo to certain extent in contemporary system of medicine. Vitiligo is a common disorder of unknown aetiology even today. It is an acquired condition in which circumscribed de-pigmented patches develops. Hence, the present clinical trial was planned to assess the role of treatment through Ayurveda in the case of Switra (Vitiligo). A case of 26 years old male came to CBPACS, Kayachikitsa special OPD with complaint of white patches in body (Scalp, abdomen, face, back region) neither scaling nor itching since 1 year. Examination, investigations and history leads to diagnosis of Switra. Patient was treated with internal administration of Arogyavardhini Vati, Mahamanjisthadi Kwath with Triphala Churna and local application of Jatyadi Taila mixed with Bakuchi Churna along with Pathyapathya. The effect of the therapy was assessed by the signs and symptoms before and after the treatment. The treatment modalities done showed marked improvement in the patient signs and symptoms and hence, treatment through Ayurveda has effective results in the management of Switra (Vitiligo).

In classics Tamaka Shwasa is Pitta Sthana Samudbhava Vhadhi, mainly affected Doshas are Vata and Pitta. In modern science Tamaka Swasa is correlate with bronchil ashtha, Symptoms of Tamaka Swasa is nearly similar to. Bronchial asthma a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways in which the chronic inflammation causes an associated increase in airway hyperresponsiveness that leads to recurrent episodes of asthmatic exacerbation. Modern science has no permanent cure of Tamaka Swasa, thats why it is necessity to search herbal and herbo-minaral preparations for the treatment of disease. It is safe and effective in asthma. Shunthyadi Churna described in Yogratnakara for the treatment of Shwasa. Aim: Role of Shunthyadi Churna in treatment of Tamaka Shwasa. Materials and Methods: Total 23 patients of Tamaka Shwasa age group of 18 to 60 years fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected for trial. Disscussion: Properties having Shuthyadi Churna is Tikta Katu Rasa, Laghu and Tikna Guna (light and penetrating properties), Ushna Virya (hot potency) and Vatakaphagna (decrease Vata and Kapha Dosha). Shuthyadi Churna is effective in break down the Samprapti of Tamaka Swasa and effective remedy for the patient of bronchial asthma.

Hypothyroidism is a metabolic disorder resulting from insufficient synthesis of thyroid hormones, which are one of the key factors for the maintenance of metabolism. India has a high prevalence of hypothyroidism, which is about 9.4% subclinical cases, and this is more common in females than males. In Ayurveda classics, the functions of metabolism depend on Agnimandhya (weak digestive fire), mainly Medo Dhatwagni Mandya (decreased metabolic factors located in fat tissues). The normal metabolism of tissues is achieved by the management of Agni. A case of hypothyroidism was treated with bio-cleansing therapy, which included Virechan Karma (therapeutic purgation) along with oral medication Kanchnaar Guggulu with Varunadi Kashaya on an empty stomach. The result was assessed on the basis of the level of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and the improvement in the general condition of the patient. The level of TSH decreases from 64.4 µIU/mL to 2.65 µIU/mL during the duration of six months, with an overall subjective perception of feeling well. The present case study demonstrates that hypothyroidism can be managed by the Ayurveda treatment modality.

Background: Infertility is the inability of a sexually active, noncontracepting couple to achieve spontaneous pregnancy in 1 year. Low sperm count (oligozoospermia) is one of the main causes of male infertility and is correlated with Ksheena Shukra (oligozoospermia). Shodhana procedures are to be performed before the administration of Vajikarana drugs, especially Virechana Karma has been indicated in the cases of Shukra Dushti. The fruit of Ashwatha (Ficus religiosa Linn.) has been indicated in premature ejaculation and low sperm count. Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an expanding health problem, which varies in prevalence among ethnic groups, occurring with an estimated global prevalence of 25%. In high-risk populations, the prevalence of NAFLD may be as high as 70%–90%. No established pharmacological treatment is available for NAFLD in modern medicine and hence, there is a search for alternative treatment modalities in other systems of medicine, which is safe and cost-effective. Aim: The aim is to evaluate the efficacy of Sharapunkhadi powder and lifestyle modification in the management of NAFLD. Materials and methods: Patients suffering from any of the components of metabolic syndrome, i.e. hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypertriglyceridemia, elevated body mass index (>25 kg/m2), truncal obesity, or presenting with the symptoms of indigestion, abdominal discomfort, flatulence. were screened with liver function tests and ultrasonography (USG) of the abdomen. A total of 93 patients confirmed with fatty liver Grade 1-3 were selected for the present trial and were randomly divided into two groups. After Mridu Virechana (mild purgation) with Haritaki powder (6–8 g) according to Koshtha, in group A (n = 46), 2 capsules (500 mg each) filled with Sharapunkhadi powder thrice a day before food with warm water along with lifestyle modification were administered for 8 weeks. In group B (n = 47), capsules filled with roasted Sooji powder in the same dose as mentioned for group A was given along with lifestyle modification and were maintained as a placebo. Relief in subjective parameters such as indigestion, abdominal discomfort, and flatulence and improvement in the grades of fatty liver evident from USG was considered for the overall assessment of the therapy in both the groups. SigmaStat 3.1 software was used for statistical calculation. Wilcoxon signed-rank test for subjective criteria and Student's paired t-test for objective criteria were applied to check the level of significance in a single group before and after treatment, while Student's unpaired t-test for objective criteria was applied to assess the level of significance of difference observed between two groups. Results: After 8 weeks of treatment, it was found from USG findings that there was a statistically significant improvement by about 39.25% in group A and 31.82% in group B, in the grade of fatty liver. The combination of Sharapunkhadi powder along with lifestyle modification provided comparatively better relief in subjective and objective parameters over the placebo control group. Conclusion: Sharapunkhadi powder is a promising herbal preparation for the management of NAFLD and the combination of Sharapunkhadi powder along with lifestyle modification can yield more significant results in the management of NAFLD than lifestyle modification alone.

In today’s scenario, cases of infertility are increased day by day and it is disturbing social as well as the mental health of people all over the world. Male infertility is a contributing factor in one-third of the couples with no children. There are so many modern therapeutics are there but result surety is not. It is need of time to explore fertility agents from herbal, herbomineral formulations with lifestyle and diet control. Azoospermia is the disorder in which there is a lack of measurable level of sperm in his semen in male. In Ayurveda classics, there is a description of Shukra Dushti, Ksheena Shukra, Ksheena Retasa, Alpa Retasa, and Shukra Dosha like conditions that result from the Shukra Dhatu vitiation by Doshas. Ayurveda can be the choice of this disease to manage. A case of 34-year-old, healthy male patient visited the OPD of Kayachikitsa with complaints of unable to conceive her partner even after having 7 years of married life. Semen analysis of this patient revealed a low sperm count (0 million/mL) with no other abnormalities. This case was managed with Virechana procedure followed by Tritiya Baladi Yapana Basti for 21 days and then the patient was administered Shaman Chikitsa for 4 months. After this treatment, sperm count increased to 68 million/mL. The detail of this case highlights the role of Shodhan and Shaman Chikitsa in the management of Azoospermia.

Beauty and attraction of an individual depend on skin condition. However, there are certain pathologies which wipe out this beauty and attraction by altering skin health. Vitiligo is a condition, which means “to have white skin.” In Ayurveda, it is referred as Switra or Kilasa and cited under the category of Kushta rogas (~skin diseases). It is caused by the imbalance of all the three Doshas (~three regulatory functional factors of the body) vitiating Rakta (~blood tissue), Mamsa (~muscle tissue), and Medas (~fat tissue). A 32-year-old male came to the outpatient department with complaints of chalky white patches with hypo-pigmented border without itching over the chest and face for two years, gradually spreading over the chest. The patient was treated with Ayurvedic oral medications and Virechana karma (~therapeutic purgation) along with the instructions of Pathya (~wholesome diet and lifestyle) and Apathya (~unwholesome diet and lifestyle). After treatment, there was repigmentation of skin without any side effects. The treatment modalities showed color changes of patches from chalky white to pinkish inferring that Ayurveda has treatment approaches to manage condition like Switra (~vitiligo).

The remedies used for the enlargement of penis are existing since ancient. The different forms of related complications are seen in their application. It has been noticed in Ayurveda texts systematically by the name of Shook Dosha along with their management. These groups of diseases are existing in different forms and more or less nearer to modern disorders of penis. The described subject of Shook Dosha is ignored and still untouched in Ayurveda fraternity. On probing the accessible sources, the systematic work on subject is not perceived. We aimed to review the Shook Dosha (disease or complications produced by remedies used for penile enlargement) in Ayurveda. The Shook Doshas of ancient classics are nothing but simply the diseases, produced by remedies used for enlargement of penis. Shook Dosha is produced by the person who tries to increase the size of penis with improper method (local application) which leads to eighteen types of Shookjanya (local application prepared with poisonous drugs or insects) diseases.On reviewing from sources and Ayurveda classics, the systematic description of Shook Dosha disease and its management is available. Currently, these Shook Doshas can be correlated with complications produced from the remedies used for penile enlargement. The subject has a future prospective to generate scientific data for stalwarts of Ayurveda.

Infertility is defined as the failure to achieve a pregnancy within one year of regular (at least three times per month) unpr otected intercourse. Oligozoospermia i.e. sperm count less than 15 million /ml is one of the causes for infertility. According to various research conducted by Carlsan et al , between 1938 to 1988; it is relevant that sperm count, has come down from 130 million/ml of semen to 66 million/ml of semen . Now a day’s o ligozoospermia and infertility are common problems due to disturb daily routine, disturb food habits and mental stress on account of fast life. Shveta Palandu is Vrishya and has been reported to have Aphrodisiac, anti - bac terial, tonic, carminative , propertie s. Tilld ate no clinical trial and pharmaceutical analysis of Shveta Palandu Swarasa Bhavita Yavani Vati has been carried out , hence in the present study Shveta Palandu Swarasa Bhavita Yavani Vati was subject ed to pharma cognostical and p harmaceutical analysis. Phar macognostical evaluation showed presence of e pidermal cells and fibers of Palandu and Stone cells of Yavani . Pharmaceuti cal evaluation showed loss on drying 13 % w/w, p H 5.5 . HPTLC results showed 6 spots at 254 nm and 8 spots at 366 nm.

Twenty-first century is the century of beauty and brain; so as a part of beauty, hair is very important. As hair is considered as a barometer of beauty, each one is over conscious about it and is in search for a better remedy for the maintenance and management of their reflection of beauty. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder also known as “spot baldness,” which interferes beauty of a person, which can be compared with Indralupta. Since the limitations of modern medicine are obvious, there is the highest need of harmless, effective treatment from alternative medical sciences. The treatment of Indralupta can be divided in two parts – local and systemic. Ayurveda indicates use of Pracchana and Lepa in the treatment. The treatment planned was Pracchana followed by Bibhitaki Lepa. Raktamokshana is the ideal treatment when Dosha is vitiated with Rakta. Pracchana helps in clearing the obstructed Romakupas. The present case study has come out with promising results in Indralupta (alopecia areata) treated by Pracchana and Bibhitaki Lepa. A case of a 41-year-old female patient who presented with the complaint of Indralupta has been treated with Pracchana followed by Bibhitaki Lepa along with internal medicine. There was a significant improvement in symptoms such as decreased patch size and less hair fall. This case study on Pracchana followed by Bibhitaki Lepa shows that Indralupta can be successfully managed by Ayurvedic treatment modalities.
