Abstract The Asian spongy moth, Lymantria dispar asiatica, is one of the most devastating forestry defoliators. The absence of a high-quality genome limited the understanding of its adaptive evolution. Here, we conducted the first chromosome-level genome assembly of L. dispar asiatica using PacBio HIFI long reads, Hi-C sequencing reads and transcriptomic data. The total assembly size is 997.59 Mb, containing 32 chromosomes with a GC content of 38.91% and a scaffold N50 length of 35.42 Mb. The BUSCO assessment indicated a completeness estimate of 99.4% for this assembly. A total of 19,532 protein-coding genes was predicted. Our study provides a valuable genomics resource for studying the mechanisms of adaptive evolution and facilitate an efficient control of L. dispar asiatica.

This work was conducted mainly to provide a healthy and safe monitoring system for the elderly living in the home environment. In this paper, two different target fall detection schemes are proposed based on whether the target is visible or not. When the target is visible, a vision-based fall detection algorithm is proposed, where an image of the target captured by a camera is transmitted to the improved You Only Look Once version 5s (YOLOv5s) model for posture detection. In contrast, when the target is invisible, a WiFi-based fall detection algorithm is proposed, where channel state information (CSI) signals are used to estimate the target’s posture with an improved long short-term memory (LSTM) model. In the improved YOLOv5s model, adaptive picture scaling technology named Letterbox is used to maintain consistency in the aspect ratio of images in the dataset, and the weighted bidirectional feature pyramid (BiFPN) and the attention mechanisms of squeeze-and-excitation (SE) and coordinate attention (CA) modules are added to the Backbone network and Neck network, respectively. In the improved LSTM model, the Hampel filter is used to eliminate the noise from CSI signals and the convolutional neural network (CNN) model is combined with the LSTM to process the image made from CSI signals, and thus the object of the improved LSTM model at a point in time is the analysis of the amplitude of 90 CSI signals. The final monitoring result of the health status of the target is the result of combining the fall detection of the improved YOLOv5s and LSTM models with the physiological information of the target. Experimental results show the following: (1) the detection precision, recall rate, and average precision of the improved YOLOv5s model are increased by 7.2%, 9%, and 7.6%, respectively, compared with the original model, and there is almost no missed detection of the target; (2) the detection accuracy of the improved LSTM model is improved by 15.61%, 29.36%, and 52.39% compared with the original LSTM, CNN, and neural network (NN) models, respectively, while the convergence speed is improved by 90% compared with the original LSTM model; and (3) the proposed algorithm can meet the requirements of accurate, real-time, and stable applications of health monitoring.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in China. Most HCC patients have the complications of chronic liver disease and need overall consideration and whole-course management, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. To develop a reasonable, long-term, and complete management plan, multiple factors need to be considered, including the patient’s general condition, basic liver diseases, tumor stage, tumor biological characteristics, treatment requirements, and economic cost. Summary: To better guide the whole-course management of HCC patients, the Chinese Association of Liver Cancer and the Chinese Medical Doctor Association has gathered multidisciplinary experts and scholars in relevant fields to formulate the “Chinese Expert Consensus on The Whole-Course Management of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (2023).” Key Messages: This expert consensus, based on the current clinical evidence and experience, proposes surgical and nonsurgical HCC management pathways and involves 18 recommendations, including perioperative treatment, systematic treatment combined with local treatment, conversion treatment, special population management, symptomatic support treatment, and follow-up management.

Objective:. Due to the characteristics of insidious onset and early metastasis of pancreatic cancer (PC), patients are often diagnosed at an advanced stage and often delayed in completing surgical resection timely, resulting in poor prognosis. Therefore, this study aims to explore the expression of potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily H member 2 (KCNH2) in PC and its relationship with clinicopathological parameters and the related mechanisms. Methods:. GEPIA database and immunohistochemical staining were used to analyze the difference in KCNH2 expression between PC and adjacent tissue in RNA and protein levels. Chi-squared test was used to evaluate the relationship between KCNH2 expression and clinicopathological features. The Cox regression model was used for multivariate analysis and univariate analysis. Histological diagnosis was performed according to World Health Organization (WHO) criteria to evaluate the relationship between KCNH2 expression and clinicopathological features. Results:. KCNH2 expression was upregulated in PC compared with normal pancreatic tissue. In addition, the knockdown of KCNH2 inhibits PC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transformation and promotes their apoptosis. In addition, clinical data showed that the abnormal expression of KCNH2 in PC was related to the tumor stage. Patients with high expression of KCNH2 had a poor prognosis. Conclusions:. KCNH2 is expected to be a novel targeted molecule in treating PC.

In order to promote the development of agro-ecological economy and improve the reliability of the development model of agricultural circular economy, this paper explores the general framework of the coordinated development of the agricultural logistics ecosystem from the perspective of the construction of the agricultural logistics ecosystem, the composition of the ecosystem, the synergy stage, and the synergy goal. Moreover, this paper combines big data and Internet of Things technology to analyze its own path of the cooperative development mechanism of the agricultural logistics ecosystem, and uses typical cases to show the internal relationships between the main bodies of the agricultural logistics ecosystem. In addition, this paper attempts to explain the core essence of the agricultural logistics ecosystem and the internal relations of the subjects through the practice of enterprises. After constructing the system framework, this paper combines the intelligent algorithm to construct the intelligent model structure, and analyzes the system function realisation process based on the actual situation. Finally, this paper evaluates the performance of the algorithm model constructed in this paper through experimental research. From the experimental statistical results, it can be seen that the algorithm model constructed in this paper has a certain effect.

Breast cancer (BRCA) is the most diagnosed cancer worldwide and is responsible for the highest cancer-associated mortality among women. It is evident that anoikis resistance contributes to tumour cell metastasis, and this is the primary cause of treatment failure for BRCA. However, anoikis-related gene (ARG) expression profiles and their prognostic value in BRCA remain unclear. In this study, a prognostic model of ARGs based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database was established using a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator analysis to evaluate the prognostic value of ARGs in BRCA. The risk factor graph demonstrated that the low-risk group had longer survival than the high-risk group, implying that the prognostic model had a good performance. We identified 11 ARGs that exhibited differential expression between the two risk groups in TCGA and Gene Expression Omnibus databases. Through Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses, we revealed that the screened ARGs were associated with tumour progression and metastasis. In addition, a protein–protein interaction network showed potential interactions among these ARGs. Furthermore, gene set enrichment analysis suggested that the Notch and Wnt signalling pathways were overexpressed in the high-risk group, and gene set variation analysis revealed that 38 hallmark genes differed between the two groups. Moreover, Kaplan–Meier survival curves and receiver operating characteristic curves were used to identify five ARGs (CD24, KRT15, MIA, NDRG1, TP63), and quantitative polymerase chain reaction was employed to assess the differential expression of these ARGs. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were then performed for the key ARGs, with the best prediction of 3 year survival. In conclusion, ARGs might play a crucial role in tumour progression and serve as indicators of prognosis in BRCA.

Due to the recent interest in renewable energy and waste heat for power generation, organic Rankine cycle (ORC) has drawn considerable attention. By applying a dual-pressure evaporation strategy, the exergy loss in the evaporators can be reduced significantly, resulting in an enhanced system performance. In this study, detailed modelling analyses have been conducted to evaluate the effect of zeotropic working fluids on the performance of two dual-pressure ORC (DPORC) arrangements, namely, DPORC-P (parallel) and DPORC-S (in-series), where the working fluid pair R245fa and R152a has been selected to form a representative zeotropic mixture. It has been found that as a zeotropic mixture is used, both systems show improved cycle net power outputs. Interestingly, the highest power outputs occur at mass fractions that result in matching temperature profiles between the hot and cold fluids in the condenser. At a heat source temperature of 120 °C, a DPORC-S always has a greater net power output regardless of the mass fraction of the zeotropic mixture; as heat source temperature reduces, the difference of power output between the two systems tends to drop: for a heat source temperature of 90 °C, a DPORC-P has a better performance as the mixture mass fraction is between 0.4 and 0.9. The influence of zeotropic fluids to the heat transfer of the condenser has also been investigated and it indicates that a significantly larger heat transfer area is required for a zeotropic fluid; based on a fixed heat transfer area, the performance enhancement of a zeotropic system is only seen as the condenser heat transfer area is considerably large.

The development of campus photovoltaic buildings is a promising way to solve the problem of high energy consumption in colleges and universities. However, comprehensive study on their energy saving and environmental benefits is still insufficient. In this study, a theoretical model of a photovoltaic building roof system was preliminarily built, and the main factors affecting the power generation of campus photovoltaic buildings were analyzed. Furthermore, an experimental test platform for the campus photovoltaic building system was built, and a dynamic grid-connected strategy of “spontaneous self-use, surplus electricity connected to the grid” was creatively proposed, which points out that the grid connection rate in winter and summer vacations are about 15% and over 40%, respectively, and the annual grid connection rate is 25%. The result shows that the electricity input of the campus photovoltaic building can bear nearly 30% of the school’s annual electricity supply, which reduces the comprehensive energy consumption per unit area and per capita comprehensive energy consumption of the campus by more than 20%. The economic and environmental benefits of the 130,000 square meter campus photovoltaic building in the article are 38.8 million CNY and 20.12 million CNY, respectively, and the static investment payback period is about 7 years. The results show considerable reference value to the upgrading of campus photovoltaic buildings.

Abstract To accurately identify fatigued driving, establishing a monitoring system is one of the important guarantees of improving traffic safety and reducing traffic accidents. Among many research methods, electrooculogram signal (EOG) has unique advantages. This paper presents a systematic literature review of these technologies and summarizes a basic framework of fatigue driving monitoring system based on EOGs. Then we summarize the advantages and disadvantages of existing technologies. In addition, 80 primary references published during the last decade were identified. The multi-feature fusion technique based on EOGs performs better than other traditional methods due to its low cost, low power consumption and low intrusion, while its application is still limited which needs more efforts to obtain good and generalizable results. And then, an overview of the literature on technology is given, revealing a premier and unbiased survey of the existing empirical research of classification techniques that have been applied to fatigue driving analysis. Finally, this paper adds value to the current literature by investigating the application of EOG signals in fatigued driving and the design of related systems, future guidelines have been provided to practitioners and researchers to grasp the major contributions and challenges in the state-of-the-art research.

Abstract Background The precancerous disease of breast cancer is an inevitable stage in the tumorigenesis and development of breast neoplasms. Quercetin (Que) has shown great potential in breast cancer treatment by inhibiting cell proliferation and regulating T cell function. γδ T cells are a class of nontraditional T cells that have long attracted attention due to their potential in immunotherapy. In this study, we revealed the immunomodulatory function of Que through regulation of the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway, which was followed by the synergistic killing of breast cancer cells. Methods In the experimental design, we first screened target genes with or without Que treatment, and we intersected the Que target with the disease target by functional enrichment analysis. Second, MCF-10A, MCF-10AT, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines were treated with Que for 0 h, 24 h and 48 h. Then, we observed the expression of its subsets by coculturing Que and γδ T cells and coculturing Que and γδ T cells with breast tumor cells to investigate their synergistic killing effect on tumor cells. Finally, Western blotting was used to reveal the changes in proteins related to the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway after Que treatment in MCF-10AT and MCF-7 cells for 48 h. Results The pathway affected by Que treatment was the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway and was associated with precancerous breast cancer, as shown by network pharmacology analysis. Radiative cooling (RC) shows good potential for building energy saving by throwing waste heat to the cosmos in a passive and sustainable manner. However, most available radiative coolers suffer from low cooling flux. The situation becomes even deteriorated in the daytime when radiative coolers are exposed to direct sunlight. To tackle this challenge, an idea of employing both a spectrally selective cover and a spectrally selective emitter is proposed in this study as an alternative approach. A comparative study is conducted among four RC modules with different spectral characteristics for the demonstration of how the spectral profiles of the cover and the emitter affects the RC performance. The results under given conditions show that the RC module with a spectrally selective cover and a spectrally selective emitter (SC/SE) reaches a net RC power of 62.4 W/m2 when the solar radiation is 800 W/m2, which is about 1.8 times that of the typical RC module with a spectrally non-selective cover and a spectrally selective emitter (n-SC/SE). When the ambient temperature is 30 °C, the SC/SE based RC module realizes a daytime sub-ambient temperature reduction of 20.0 °C, standing for a further temperature decrement of 9.2 °C compared to the n-SC/SE based RC module.

Waste heat from Air Conditioning (AC) systems has long been neglected as a heat source for power generation. With the increasing AC demand worldwide, relevant technology development are urgently required. In this study, four different combined systems have been proposed for AC waste heat conversion. Power generation modules are based on organic Rankine cycle (ORC), organic flash cycle (OFC), Kalina cycle (KCS) and transcritical CO2 cycle (T-CO2), respectively. Each of the above is integrated with a basic AC cycle to establish a combined system. Modelling studies have been carried out to evaluate the performance of the systems and it is found that an ORC-based system has a higher system performance than others throughout the entire AC condensing temperature range considered, and it results in an overall COP enhancement between 15% and 30%. The exergy analysis shows that the relatively low performance of the KCS, OFC or T-CO2-based systems is due to the higher irreversibility in the evaporator. By replacing the ORC module with a dual-pressure ORC counterpart and installing a liquid-line/suction-line heat exchanger in the AC cycle, a further COP enhancement up to 15% is achieved. Preliminary economic analysis indicates that employment of the heat recovery module becomes viable as the system cooling capacity is over 1000 kW and a payback period less than 5 years is expected.

Breast carcinoma is a multistep progressive disease. Precancerous prevention seems to be crucial. β-Boswellic acid (β-BA), the main component of the folk medicine Boswellia serrata (B. serrata), has been reported to be effective in various diseases including tumors. In this work, we demonstrated that β-BA could inhibit breast precancerous lesions in rat disease models. Consistently, β-BA could suppress proliferation and induce apoptosis on MCF-10AT without significantly influencing MCF-10A. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis suggested that β-BA may interfere with the metabolic pathway. Metabolism-related assays showed that β-BA suppressed glycolysis and reduced ATP production, which then activated the AMPK pathway and inhibited the mTOR pathway to limit MCF-10AT proliferation. Further molecular docking analysis suggested that GLUT1 might be the target of β-BA. Forced expression of GLUT1 could rescue the glycolysis suppression and survival limitation induced by β-BA on MCF-10AT. Taken together, β-BA could relieve precancerous lesions in vivo and in vitro through GLUT1 targeting-induced glycolysis suppression and AMPK/mTOR pathway alterations. Here, we offered a molecular basis for β-BA to be developed as a promising drug candidate for the prevention of breast precancerous lesions.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a heterogeneous disease that has multiple etiologies. It is the most common primary liver cancer, the sixth highest cause of cancer incidences, and the fourth highest cause of cancer-related deaths. The discovery of new biomarkers for the early detection, treatment, and prognosis of HCC would therefore be extremely useful. This study investigated differentially expressed ribonucleic acid (RNA) profiles by constructing a genome-wide profile of clinical samples. Differential expression analysis identified 1,280 differentially expressed messenger RNAs (dif-mRNAs), 99 differentially expressed microRNAs (dif-miRNAs), 181 differentially expressed long non-coding RNAs (dif-lncRNAs), and 31 differentially expressed circular RNAs (dif-circRNAs). Gene ontology (GO) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) path analysis were then conducted on these differentially expressed RNAs, revealing that they were clearly related to cell division, foreign body metabolism, and ribosome assembly. A competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network was then constructed based on the regulatory dif-miRNA-dif-mRNA and dif-miRNA-dif-lncRNA relationships. These results were also verified using HCC data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA); seven dif-miRNAs were verified in clinical samples by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Introduction Gallbladder cancer (GBC), the sixth most common gastrointestinal tract cancer, poses a significant disease burden in China. However, no national representative data are available on the clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis of GBC in the Chinese population.Methods and analysis The Chinese Research Group of Gallbladder Cancer (CRGGC) study is a multicentre retrospective registry cohort study. Clinically diagnosed patient with GBC will be identified from 1 January 2008 to December, 2019, by reviewing the electronic medical records from 76 tertiary and secondary hospitals across 28 provinces in China. Patients with pathological and radiological diagnoses of malignancy, including cancer in situ, from the gallbladder and cystic duct are eligible, according to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network 2019 guidelines. Patients will be excluded if GBC is the secondary diagnosis in the discharge summary. The demographic characteristics, medical history, physical examination results, surgery information, pathological data, laboratory examination results and radiology reports will be collected in a standardised case report form. By May 2021, approximately 6000 patient with GBC will be included. The clinical follow-up data will be updated until 5 years after the last admission for GBC of each patient. The study aimed (1) to depict the clinical characteristics, including demographics, pathology, treatment and prognosis of patient with GBC in China; (2) to evaluate the adherence to clinical guidelines of GBC and (3) to improve clinical practice for diagnosing and treating GBC and provide references for policy-makers.Ethics and dissemination The protocol of the CRGGC has been approved by the Committee for Ethics of Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SHEC-C-2019–085). Abstract Background Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major risk factor for the occurrence and development of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Microvascular invasion (MVI) of HCC is closely related to postoperative recurrence. We aimed to investigate the effect of HBV DNA replication levels and anti-HBV treatment on the occurrence of MVI in HCC. Methods A retrospective analysis of the clinical and pathological data of 660 patients undergoing hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from January 2015 to December 2017 is included in this study. Results This study involved a total of 660 patients with an MVI incidence rate of 46.8% (309/660). Univariate analysis revealed that positive HBV surface antigen (HBsAg), detectable HBV DNA load, and administration of antiviral treatment were significantly associated with the formation of MVI. As the central dogma of molecular biology, genetic information flows from DNA through transcription into RNA followed by translation of the message into protein by transfer RNAs (tRNAs). However, mRNA translation is not always perfect, and errors in the amino acid composition may occur. Mistranslation is generally well tolerated, but once it reaches superphysiological levels, it can give rise to a plethora of diseases. The key causes of mistranslation are errors in translational decoding of the codons in mRNA. Such errors mainly derive from tRNA misdecoding and misacylation, especially when certain codon-paired tRNA species are missing. Substantial progress has recently been made with respect to the mechanistic basis of erroneous mRNA decoding as well as the resulting consequences for physiology and pathology. Here, we aim to review this progress with emphasis on viral evolution and cancer development.

The efficiency improvement of household refrigerators is of significance to electricity consumption reduction of residential buildings. The cold loss recovery in household refrigerators is a promising development direction. In this study, a refrigerator improved by heat pipes is designed to reduce the cold loss at freezer walls to enhance the overall efficiency of the refrigerator. A complete steady-state mathematical model is built for characterizing its overall energy saving behaviors by introducing the real structural parameters of a Midea BCD-111 refrigerator and measured temperature boundary conditions. The performances of the improved refrigerator are investigated with typical operating states, variable ambient temperature, and heat pipe design. The simulative results indicate that the cold loss of the freezer of the improved refrigerator can be reduced by 8.3–16.5%, and the energy saving capability is relatively reliable. Results verify that the cold loss recovery of the improved refrigerator is feasible in various operating conditions.

Heat collecting elements (HCEs) are the core components in the parabolic trough collector (PTC) system because photothermal conversion of the whole system occurs in the HCEs. However, considerable heat loss from the HCEs at high operating temperature exerts seriously negative impact on the photothermal conversion efficiency of the PTC system and subsequent application systems. To effectively reduce the heat loss and thus enhance the overall performance of the PTC system, in our previous work, we proposed three kinds of novel HCEs by partially depositing different IR-reflector coatings on the inner and outer surfaces of the glass envelope. The infrared (IR)-reflector of actual transparent conductive oxide (TCO) film, IR-reflector with a fixed cutoff wavelength of 2.5 μm, and the IR-reflector with optimal cutoff wavelength showed extremely effective roles in the reduction of heat loss in HCEs. In this paper, the comprehensive energy and exergy performances of these three novel HCEs in a real 72 m small-scale PTC system are further investigated by the mathematical models established. Additionally, the comparisons among overall performances of the proposed HCEs under different direct solar irradiances are also carried out. The results show that the simulated data yields good consistence with the experimental results, and that all three of the novel HCEs achieve superior overall performance compared with the conventional HCEs. The PTC system installing the novel HCEs with the IR-reflector coating which possesses the optimal cutoff wavelength has the best energetic and exergetic efficiencies, which are significantly improved by 25.2% and 28.1% compared with the conventional HCEs at the solar irradiance of 800 W/m2 and inlet temperature of 580 °C. Moreover, the proposed novel HCEs have a much superior performance at lower solar irradiance. The performance-enhanced PTC system will play a significantly positive role in the performance improvement of the heating and cooling of buildings in the future.

Live attenuated vaccines are widely used to protect humans or animals from pathogen infections. We have previously developed a chicken embryo-attenuated Duck Hepatitis A Virus genotype 1 (DHAV-1) vaccine (CH60 strain). This study aims to understand the mechanisms that drive a virulent strain to an attenuated virus. Here, we systematically compared five DHAV-1 chicken embryo attenuated strains and 68 virulent strains. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that duck virulent strains isolated from different geographic regions of China undergo a convergent evolution in the chicken embryos. Comparative analysis indicated that the codon usage bias of the attenuated strains were shaped by chicken codons usage bias, which essentially contributed to viral adaption in the unsuitable host driven by incompatible translation. Of note, the missense mutations in coding region and mutations in untranslated regions may also contribute to viral attenuation of DHAV-1 to some extent. Importantly, we have experimentally confirmed that the expression levels of four viral proteins (2A3pro, 2A3pro, 3Cpro, and 3Dpro) in the liver and kidney of ducks infected with an attenuated strain are significantly lower than that infected with a virulent strain, despite with similar virus load. Thus, the key mechanisms of viral attenuation revealed by this study may lead to innovative and easy approaches in designing live attenuated vaccines.

Because of their better immunogenicity and the improved protection they afford, live attenuated vaccines derived from serial passaging in an abnormal host are widely used to protect humans or animals from certain pathogens. Here, we used a virulent and a chicken embryo-attenuated duck hepatitis A virus genotype 1 to compare the different regulated immune responses induced by viruses with differing virulence. In this study, the attenuated strains had lower protein expression levels than the virulent strains as identified by immunohistochemistry. This may be caused by apparent codon usage bias selected during passage. Furthermore, lower translation efficiency led to decreased viral replication, which is highly dependent on non-structural viral protein expression. Although the two strains had differing levels of virulence, both could induce strong innate immune responses and robust Tc or Th cell populations during the early stages of the immune response. However, due to fixed single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) selected by passage, the virulent and attenuated strains may induce differing immune responses, with stronger Tc cell immunity induced by the attenuated strain in the spleen and thymus and stronger Tc cell immunity induced by the virulent strain in the liver, lung, bursa of Fabricius and Harderian gland. Four immune related genes (RIG-1, MDA5, IFN-β, and IL-6) were highly differentially expressed in the Harderian gland, bursa of Fabricius and thymus. This study has provided further information about differences in virus-host interactions between duck hepatitis A viruses of differing virulence.

Background: Circulating eosinophils are associated with tumor development. An eosinophil-related index, the neutrophil to eosinophil ratio (NER), can be used to predict the prognosis of patients with tumors. However, there is still a lack of efficient prognostic biomarkers for HCC. In this study, we aimed to investigate the predictive value of the NER and develop an optimal machine learning model for the recurrence of HCC patients. Patients and methods: A retrospective collection of 562 patients who underwent hepatectomy with a pathologic diagnosis of HCC was performed. The relationship between NER and progression-free survival (PFS) was investigated. We developed a new machine learning framework with 10 machine learning algorithms and their 101 combinations to select the best model for predicting recurrence after hepatectomy. The performance of the model was assessed by the area under the curve (AUC) of characteristics and calibration curves, and clinical utility was evaluated by decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: Kaplan Meier curves showed that the PFS in the low NER group was significantly better than that in the high NER group. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that NER was an independent risk factor for recurrence after surgery. The random survival forests (RSF) model was selected as the best model that had good predictive efficacy and outperformed the TNM, BCLC, and CNLC staging systems. Conclusion: The NER has good predictive value for postoperative recurrence in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. Machine learning model based on NER can be used for accurate predictions.
