Abstract Background Reduced endometrium thickness and receptivity are two important reasons for recurrent implantation failure (RIF). In order to elucidate differences between these two types of endometrial defects in terms of molecular signatures, cellular interactions, and structural changes, we systematically investigated the single-cell transcriptomic atlas across three distinct groups: RIF patients with thin endometrium (≤ 6 mm, TE-RIF), RIF patients with normal endometrium thickness (≥ 8 mm, NE-RIF), and fertile individuals (Control). Methods The late proliferative and mid-secretory phases of the endometrium were collected from three individuals in the TE-RIF group, two in the NE-RIF group, and three in the control group. The study employed a combination of advanced techniques. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) was utilized to capture comprehensive transcriptomic profiles at the single-cell level, providing insights into gene expression patterns within specific cell types. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy were employed to visualize ultrastructural details of the endometrial tissue, while hematoxylin and eosin staining facilitated the examination of tissue morphology and cellular composition. Immunohistochemistry techniques were also applied to detect and localize specific protein markers relevant to endometrial receptivity and function. Results Through comparative analysis of differentially expressed genes among these groups and KEGG pathway analysis, the TE-RIF group exhibited notable dysregulations in the TNF and MAPK signaling pathways, which are pivotal in stromal cell growth and endometrial receptivity. Conversely, in the NE-RIF group, disturbances in energy metabolism emerged as a primary contributor to reduced endometrial receptivity. Additionally, using CellPhoneDB for intercellular communication analysis revealed aberrant interactions between epithelial and stromal cells, impacting endometrial receptivity specifically in the TE-RIF group. Conclusion Overall, our findings provide valuable insights into the heterogeneous molecular pathways and cellular interactions associated with RIF in different endometrial conditions. These insights may pave the way for targeted therapeutic interventions aimed at improving endometrial receptivity and enhancing reproductive outcomes in patients undergoing ART. Further research is warranted to validate these findings and translate them into clinical applications for personalized fertility treatments. Trial registration Not applicable.

Abstract Oxidative damage induced granulosa cells (GCs) apoptosis was considered as a significant cause of compromised follicle quality, antioxidants therapy has emerged as a potential method for improving endometriosis pregnancy outcomes. Here, we found that GCs from endometriosis patients show increased oxidative stress level. Methyl 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate (MDHB), a small molecule compound that is extracted from natural plants, reversed tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) induced GCs oxidative damage. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the protective effect of MDHB for GCs and its potential mechanisms. TUNEL staining and immunoblotting of cleaved caspase-3/7/9 showed MDHB attenuated TBHP induced GCs apoptosis. Mechanistically, MDHB treatment decreased cellular and mitochondria ROS production, improved the mitochondrial function by rescuing the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and ATP production. Meanwhile, MDHB protein upregulated the expression of vital antioxidant transcriptional factor Nrf2 and antioxidant enzymes SOD1, NQO1 and GCLC to inhibited oxidative stress state, further beneficial to oocytes and embryos quality. Therefore, MDHB may represent a potential drug candidate in protecting granulosa cells in endometriosis, which can improve pregnancy outcomes for endometriosis-associated infertility.

Abstract Ultralight dark photons constitute a well-motivated candidate for dark matter. A coherent electromagnetic wave is expected to be induced by dark photons when coupled with Standard-Model photons through kinetic mixing mechanism, and should be spatially correlated within the de Broglie wavelength of dark photons. Here we report the first search for correlated dark-photon signals using a long-baseline network of 15 atomic magnetometers, which are situated in two separated meter-scale shield rooms with a distance of about 1700 km. Both the network’s multiple sensors and the shields large size significantly enhance the expected dark-photon electromagnetic signals, and long-baseline measurements confidently reduce many local noise sources. Using this network, we constrain the kinetic mixing coefficient of dark photon dark matter over the mass range 4.1 feV-2.1 peV, which represents the most stringent constraints derived from any terrestrial experiments operating over the aforementioned mass range. Our prospect indicates that future data releases may go beyond the astrophysical constraints from the cosmic microwave background and the plasma heating.

Abstract Herein, a practical ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) was created by adding two different shapes of steel fibers and curing them at ambient temperature using palygorskite-nanofiber (PN) as the modifier. The compressive strength, flexural strength, water absorption capacity, and porosity were analyzed to determine the effects of the steel fibers and PNs on the UHPC mechanical and physical properties. The steel fibers and PNs were found to improve these properties. The UHPC mechanical properties were outstanding at 1.5% fiber dosage, while physical properties were excellent at 1.0% fiber dosage. The mechanical and physical characteristics of UHPC were preferably at a PN dosage of 0.2% and the fiber dosage of 1.0%. The compressive and flexural strengths of straight-steel-fiber UHPC were 145.57 and 19.67 MPa, respectively, i.e., 42.0 and 109.4% higher than those of the reference specimens (i.e., those without fibers or PNs); the water absorption capacity and porosity decreased by 50.1 and 60.7%, respectively. The compressive and flexural strengths of hooked-end-steel-fiber UHPC were 18.3 and 96.0% higher than those of the reference specimens, respectively, and the water absorption capacity and porosity decreased by 43.2 and 29.8%, respectively. These results could provide vital information for the promotion and practical application of UHPC.

ABSTRACT: Infant formula contains 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol esters (3-MCPDE), which are formed during the deodorization step of vegetable oil refining. The European Food Safety Authority stated that 3-MCPDE can be hydrolyzed in the gastrointestinal tract to free-form 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD), which has potential toxicity and can be rapidly absorbed. Evaluating the effect of 3-MCPD on nutrition absorption is a prerequisite for establishing effective management strategies. A total of 66 crucial lipid molecules associated with 3-MCPD were identified based on debiased sparse partial correlation analysis. 3-MCPD affected triglyceride hydrolyzation and increased the concentration of undigested sn-2 palmitate (9.57 to 17.06 mg kg−1). 3-Monochloropropane-1,2-diol reduced the bioaccessibility of fatty acids, and more short- (31.42 to 58.02 mg kg−1) and medium-chain fatty acids (17.03 to 26.43 mg kg−1) remained unabsorbed. Lipidomic profiles of infant formula models spiked with different 3-MCPDE levels were investigated, and the results were consistent with the experiments with the commercial formula indicating lipid alteration was mainly affected by the digestive 3-MCPD. The formation of 3-MCPD ester-pancreatic lipase with the binding energy of −4.9 kcal mol−1 was more stable than triglyceride-pancreatic lipase (−4.0 kcal mol−1), affecting triglyceride hydrolyzation. 3-Monochloropropane-1,2-diol was bound to Glu13 and Asp331 residues of the pancreatic lipase via hydrogen bonds, which resulted in a conformational change of pancreatic lipase and spatial shielding effect. The existence of the spatial-shielding effect reduced the accessibility of pancreatic lipase and further affected triglyceride hydrolyzation. These findings indicated that 3-MCPD obstructed nutrient acquisition and laid the foundation for the subsequent nutrition enhancement design.

AIM: To evaluate the clinical significance of checking episcleral venous fluid wave (EVFW) during gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) in patients with open angle glaucoma (OAG). METHODS: This retrospective case series study comprised 30 patients (45 eyes) with OAG underwent GATT. The location and extent of EVFW were examined and graded after intraoperative compression flushing of the anterior chamber angle during the operation. Patients were followed up for 1y. In this article, a novel approach is presented for drift‐aware feature learning aimed at calibrating drift biases in soft sensors for long‐term use. The proposed method leverages an autoencoder for data preprocessing to extract expressive signal drift traces features, and incorporates drift characteristics through the latent space representation in a long short‐term memory (LSTM) regression neural network. In the results, it is demonstrated that the proposed approach outperforms other typical recurrent neural networks, such as LSTM, gated recurrent unit, and bidirectional LSTM, with a reduced root mean square error of 60% for the training dataset (≈2.5 h) and 80% for the testing dataset (≈20 h). The proposed approach has the potential to optimize the performance of soft sensors with long‐term drift and reduce the need for frequent recalibration. By compensating for sensor drift using existing prior information and limited time data, the proposed neural network can effectively reduce the complexity and computational burden of the system, without the need for additional settings or hyperparameter fine‐tuning.

Abstract The oocyte cumulus complex is mainly composed of an oocyte, the perivitelline space, zona pellucida and numerous granulosa cells. The cumulus granulosa cells (cGCs) provide a particularly important microenvironment for oocyte development, regulating its growth, maturation and meiosis. In this study, we studied the internal structures and cell-to-cell connections of mouse cGCs using focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM). We reconstructed three-dimensional models to display characteristic connections between the oocyte and cGCs, and to illustrate various main organelles in cGCs together with their interaction relationship. A special form of cilium identified in granulosa cell was never reported in previous literature.

Abstract Studies involving response of subgroups of soil microorganisms to forest change, especially comparative studies on habitat-specialization and abundance gradient were still lack. In this study, we analyzed the response of soil bacterial diversity and structure to afforestation types and its relationship to environment of Fanggan ecological restoration area under the classification of subgroups by habitat-specialization and abundance gradient based on abundance ratio respectively. The results were: (1) On the habitat-specialization gradient, the variation of OTUs species number and abundance was consistent and positively correlated with habitat-specialization; on the abundance gradient, the variation was opposite and OTUs species number was negatively correlated with abundance gradient; (2) The distribution frequency of each subgroup on both gradients was the highest in broad-leaved forests, but the abundance was the opposite. The distribution frequency of the same stand showed no difference among habitat-specialization subgroups, but the abundant subgroup in broad-leaved forests was the highest among the abundance subgroups; (3) α-diversity was positively correlated with habitat-specialization but negatively with abundance, with the highest mostly in broad-leaved and mixed forests; (4) Community structure among stands on habitat-specialization gradient showed no significant difference, but that of rare subgroup between broad-leaved forests and other stands significantly differed. Plant diversity and vegetation composition correlated stronger with community structure than spatial distance and soil physicochemical properties on both gradients. Our results provided a new perspective for revealing the effects of afforestation types on soil bacteria from the comparison of habitat specialization and abundance gradient.

Abstract A muon collider would enable the big jump ahead in energy reach that is needed for a fruitful exploration of fundamental interactions. The challenges of producing muon collisions at high luminosity and 10 TeV centre of mass energy are being investigated by the recently-formed International Muon Collider Collaboration. This Review summarises the status and the recent advances on muon colliders design, physics and detector studies. The aim is to provide a global perspective of the field and to outline directions for future work.

Abstract We present the explicit construction of the effective field theory (EFT) of standard model mass eigenstates. The EFT, which is invariant under U(1)e.m. × SU(3) c , is constructed based on the on-shell method and Young Tableau technique. This EFT serves as a new formulation of the Higgs EFT (HEFT), which can describe the infrared effects of new physics at the electroweak symmetry-breaking phase with greater conciseness. The current HEFT operator basis has a clear physical interpretation, making it more accessible for research in phenomenology. A complete list of HEFT operator bases for any-point vertices up to any dimension could be provided, and three- and four-point bases are provided as examples. Additionally, this framework realized as Mathematica program can be used to construct the EFT of any type of dark matter or particles with any spin.

Abstract To exhaustively explore the association of infant genetic polymorphisms of methionine synthase (MTR) gene with the risk of non-syndromic congenital heart disease (CHD). A hospital-based case–control study involving 620 CHD cases and 620 health controls was conducted from November 2017 to March 2020. Eighteen SNPs were detected and analyzed. Our date suggested that the genetic polymorphisms of MTR gene at rs1805087 (GG vs. AA: aOR = 6.85, 95% CI 2.94–15.96; the dominant model: aOR = 1.77, 95% CI 1.35–2.32; the recessive model: aOR = 6.26, 95% CI 2.69–14.54; the addictive model: aOR = 1.81, 95% CI 1.44–2.29) and rs2275565 (GT vs. GG: aOR = 1.52, 95% CI 1.15–1.20; TT vs. GG: aOR = 4.93, 95% CI 1.93–12.58; the dominant model: aOR = 1.66, 95% CI 1.27–2.17; the recessive model: aOR = 4.41, 95% CI 1.73–11.22; the addictive model: aOR = 1.68, 95% CI 1.32–2.13) were significantly associated with the higher risk of CHD. And three haplotypes of G-A-T (involving rs4659724, rs95516 and rs4077829; OR = 5.48, 95% CI 2.58–11.66), G-C-A-T-T-G (involving rs2275565, rs1266164, rs2229276, rs4659743, rs3820571 and rs1050993; OR = 0.78, 95% CI 0.63–0.97) and T-C-A-T-T-G (involving rs2275565, rs1266164, rs2229276, rs4659743, rs3820571 and rs1050993; OR = 1.60, 95% CI 1.26–2.04) were observed to be significantly associated with risk of CHD. Our study found that genetic polymorphisms of MTR gene at rs1805087 and rs2275565 were significantly associated with higher risk of CHD. Additionally, our study revealed a significant association of three haplotypes with risk of CHD. However, the limitations in this study should be carefully taken into account. In the future, more specific studies in different ethnic populations are required to refine and confirm our findings. Background The purpose of this study was to explore the association between anaemia during early pregnancy and the risk of neonatal outcomes.Methods We collected clinical data from pregnant women (≥18 years) who received their first antenatal care between 8 and 14 weeks of gestation in Hunan Provincial Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital. Multiple logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline regression models were used to analyse the association between anaemia during early pregnancy and the risk of neonatal outcomes. In addition, sensitivity analysis was further performed to assess the robustness of the results.Results The prospective cohort study ultimately included 34 087 singleton pregnancies. In this study, the rate of anaemia during early pregnancy was 16.3%. Objective: The popularization of gastroenteroscopy and the introduction of comfortable medical care have further promoted the growth of people's demand, especially the demand for painless endoscopy. This cross-sectional study aims to investigate the current situation and change in county people's demand for endoscopy to promote the development of endoscopy centers in county hospitals in southeast China. Methods: From October to December 2021, patients and their family members who came to the Gastroenterology Department in Suichang County People's Hospital of Zhejiang Province were randomly selected to complete the questionnaire. A total of 838 valid questionnaires were collected. Additionally, the original software data of the Endoscopy Center were sampled and retrieved (from October to December every year from 2018 to 2021) for statistical analysis of real-world data. Those who would choose painless endoscopy the next time in the valid questionnaires were included in the painless endoscopy group, while those who would choose ordinary endoscopy the next time were included in the ordinary endoscopy group. Results: The stepwise forward binary logistic regression model analysis showed that, patients with “secondhand smoke exposure” were more willing to choose painless endoscopy (OR = 1.459, 95% CI: 1.050–2.028, p = 0.025). However, patients with an education level of “primary and below” and “junior high school”, and patients who are suffering from “currently experiencing abdominal distension”, were more willing to choose ordinary endoscopy (OR = 0.270, 95% CI: 0.149–0.488, p

To improve the salt tolerance of grape seeds and seedlings under salt stress, this study was conducted including two control groups (CK, S) and five experimental groups (S + Si40, S + Si60, S + Si80, S + C90, S + Si40 + C90), and the physiological characteristics of grape seed germination and seedlings were studied using 40, 60, and 80 μg/mL of nano-silica treatments and by mixing 40 μg/mL of nano-silica with 90 μg/mL of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), respectively. The combined treatment of 40 μg/mL nano-silica and 90 μg/mL MWCNTs resulted in the best rate of growth in grape seeds and root length and an increased germination rate when compared with the other concentrations. The combined treatment reduced the MDA content in the grape seedling leaves and increased the activities of superoxide (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR), monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), glutathione-s-transferase (GT), and glutathione reductase (GR). In addition, the scavenging activity of DPPH· was also maintained by the combined treatment. In conclusion, a combined treatment with 40 μg/mL nano-silica and 90 μg/mL MWCNTs significantly increased the reduction capacity through the direct and indirect antioxidant systems (AsA-GSH cycle) and maintained a high antioxidant capacity of grape seedlings under salt stress.

The limited portability of pneumatic pumps presents a challenge for ankle-foot orthosis actuated by pneumatic actuators. The high-pressure requirements and time delay responses of pneumatic actuators necessitate a powerful and large pump, which renders the entire device heavy and inconvenient to carry. In this paper, we propose and validate a concept that enhances portability by employing a slack cable tendon mechanism. By managing slack tension properly, the time delay response problem of pneumatic actuators is eliminated through early triggering, and the system can be effectively controlled to generate the desired force for dorsiflexion assistance. The current portable integration of the system weighs approximately 1.6 kg, with distribution of 0.5 kg actuation part on the shank and 1.1 kg power system on the waist, excluding the battery. A mathematical model is developed to determine the proper triggering time and volumetric flow rate requirements for pump selection. To evaluate the performance of this actuation system and mathematical model, the artificial muscle’s response time and real volumetric flow rate were preliminarily tested with different portable pumps on a healthy participant during treadmill walking at various speeds ranging from 0.5 m/s to 1.75 m/s. Two small pumps, specifically VN-C1 (5.36 L/min, 300 g) and VN-C4 (9.71L/min, 550 g), meet our design criteria, and then tested on three healthy subjects walking at normal speeds of 1 m/s and 1.5 m/s. The kinematic and electromyographic results demonstrate that the device can facilitate ankle dorsiflexion with a portable pump (300–500 g), generating sufficient force to lift up the foot segment, and reducing muscle activity responsible for ankle dorsiflexion during the swing phase by 8% and 10% at normal speeds of 1 m/s and 1.5 m/s respectively. This portable ankle robot, equipped with a compact pump weighing approximately 1.6 kg, holds significant potential for assisting individuals with lower limb weakness in walking, both within their homes and in clinical settings.

Estrogen plays a prominent role in regulating and coordinating energy homeostasis throughout the growth, development, reproduction, and aging of women. Estrogen receptors (ERs) are widely expressed in the brain and nearly all tissues of the body. Within the brain, central estrogen via ER regulates appetite and energy expenditure and maintains cell glucose metabolism, including glucose transport, aerobic glycolysis, and mitochondrial function. In the whole body, estrogen has shown beneficial effects on weight control, fat distribution, glucose and insulin resistance, and adipokine secretion. As demonstrated by multiple in vitro and in vivo studies, menopause-related decline of circulating estrogen may induce the disturbance of metabolic signals and a significant decrease in bioenergetics, which could trigger an increased incidence of late-onset Alzheimer’s disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases in postmenopausal women. In this article, we have systematically reviewed the role of estrogen and ERs in body composition and lipid/glucose profile variation occurring with menopause, which may provide a better insight into the efficacy of hormone therapy in maintaining energy metabolic homeostasis and hold a clue for development of novel therapeutic approaches for target tissue diseases.

Abstract We establish a systematic construction of the on-shell amplitude/operator basis for Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) in D = 4 spacetime dimensions and with an arbitrary number of flavors N f . For kinematic factors, we employ spinor-helicity variables to construct the soft blocks, which are local amplitudes satisfying the Adler’s zero condition, as well as to take into account the reduction in the kinematic basis due to the Gram determinant, which arises at O(p 10) when the number of multiplicity N in an amplitude becomes large: N > D. For flavor factors, we include group-theoretic relations at small N f , N f ≤ N, which decreases the flavor basis. The result is obtained by adapting the Young tensor method of constructing the operator basis for generic effective field theories to the case of non-linearly realized symmetries. Working in the massless quark limit, we present purely mesonic operators for both even- and odd-parity at O(p 6) and O(p 8) for N = 6 and arbitrary N f , and establish a direct correspondence between the amplitude basis and the operator basis. Furthermore, the redundancy due to the Gram determinant is studied at O(p 10) for N = 6, 8 and 10.

Objective To explore the role of postoperative gonadotrophin releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) therapy before treatment with intrauterine insemination (IUI) for infertile females with stage I-II endometriosis.Material and methods Ninety-seven patients diagnosed with stage I-II endometriosis before IUI were enrolled in this study. The clinical pregnancy rate, cumulative pregnancy rate, live birth rate and newborn conditions were compared between the two groups with and without GnRH-a therapy.Results The clinical pregnancy rate of IUI in the GnRH-a group was higher than that in the control group (15.29% vs. 11.82%, p = .035). By logistic regression analysis, patients treated with GnRH-a had a higher clinical pregnancy rate than those without (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 23.190, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.238–434.312). The live birth rate per IUI cycle in the GnRH-a group was also higher than in the controls (12.94% vs. 10%). However, the difference was not statistically significant (p = .311, AOR 4.844, 95% CI 0.229–102.320). The patients with GnRH-a therapy had a similar incidence of multiple pregnancy rate (0% vs. 0%), miscarriage rate (2.35% vs. 0.91%) and ectopic pregnancy rate (0% vs. 0.91%) as compared to the control group. The cumulative pregnancy rates were all higher in patients administered with GnRH-a than those without GnRH-a treatment in different cycles (one cycle: 17.07% vs 12.50%; two cycles: 29.27% vs 19.64%; three cycles: 31.71% vs 23.21%; ≥four cycles: 31.71% vs 23.21%), but the difference was not statistically significant. Notably, there was no more pregnancy after the third IUI cycle. The gestation weeks of delivery in the two groups were 39.09 ± 1.04 and 38.60 ± 1.17, respectively (p = .323). Nor was there difference in birth weight between the two groups (3236 ± 537 g vs 3435 ± 418 g, p = .360).Conclusions The administration of GnRH-a in patients with stage I-II endometriosis could be beneficial to the outcomes of IUI. It is recommended that IUI should be discontinued after three failed attempts. KEY MESSAGESEndometriosis is a common cause of infertility, but the exact mechanism remains unclear.The administration of GnRH-a before IUI treatment is beneficial for patients suffering from stage I-II endometriosis.After three failed attempts, IUI should be stopped in patients with stage I-II endometriosis.

Evaluation of tubal patency is one of the vital steps in the process of female infertility management. Hysterosalpingo-contrast Sonography (HyCoSy) has become the first-line recommendation for evaluating tubal patency. However, there remain some controversies and dilemmas relevant to the evaluation of tubal patency by HyCosy, with no effective solution has been proposed or no consensus has been reached. Herein, combined with previous research and clinical experience, we conclude and analyze these controversies and dilemmas, aiming at offering our perspective on the opportunities and challenges which are faced by HyCosy.

Abstract Background Breast cancer targeting diagnostic agent with effective imaging ability is important in guiding plan formulation, prediction, and curative effect evaluation of tumors in clinic. A tumor-targeting nanoprobe based on the functional and programmable Liquid–Liquid phase separation of AS1411 promoted by Ru(II) complex RuPEP may develop into a potential phosphorescence probe to detect breast cancer cells, where AS1411 act as a tumor-targeting guidance moiety to distinguish tumor cells from normal cells and RuPEP act as a light-emitting element to highlight breast cancer cells. Methods Here we designed and constructed a nanoprobe AS1411@RuPEP, and the physicochemical and biochemical properties were characterized by TEM, AFM and EDS. The breast cancer targeting diagnostic capacity was evaluated by normal/tumor cell co-culture assay, tumor cells targeting tracking in xenograft model and cancerous area selectively distinguishing in human patient tissue. Results Further studies indicated that the nanoprobe exhibits excellent tumor-targeting imaging ability in vitro and in vivo by effectively recognize the over-expressed nucleolin (NCL) on the breast cancer cells membrane. Intriguingly, we discovered that the selectively enrichment of nanoprobe particles in tumor cells is related to ATP-dependent NCL transport processes that rely on the AS1411 component of nanoprobe to recognize NCL. Furthermore, preferential accumulation of nanoprobe is clearly differentiating the human breast cancer tissue surrounding non-cancerous tissue in histological analysis. Conclusion This study produce a potent nanoprobe can be used as a convenient tool to highlight and distinguish tumor cells in vivo, and indicate the tumorous grading and staging in human breast cancer patient pathological section, which provides an effective way for breast cancer diagnostic imaging by targeting recognize NCL.

Introduction To investigate the independent and combined effects of advanced maternal age and pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) on the risk of pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).Research design and methods Logistic regression models were used to estimate the OR and 95% CIs of pre-eclampsia and GDM with advanced maternal age and pre-pregnancy BMI, respectively, and the interaction between advanced maternal age and pre-pregnancy BMI. We also used causal mediation analysis to assess the mediating role of pre-pregnancy BMI on maternal age–pre-eclampsia/GDM associations.Results In this study, 788 cases (2.31%) were diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and 5430 cases (15.92%) were diagnosed with GDM. We found that advanced maternal age was associated with a higher risk for pre-eclampsia and GDM, with adjusted ORs (aORs) of 1.74 (95% CI 1.49–2.05) and 1.76 (95% CI 1.65–1.89) after adjusting for potential confounders, respectively. In addition, maternal pre-pregnancy overweight/obesity was associated with the risk of pre-eclampsia and GDM, with the corresponding aORs of 3.64 (95% CI 3.12–4.24) and 1.71 (95% CI 1.60–1.85), respectively. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is a common condition that affects children between the age of 10 and young adulthood. Rigid brace treatment is an effective treatment to control the progression of spinal deformity. However, it limits mobility and causes discomfort, which leads to low treatment compliance. In this study, we developed and characterized a kirigami-inspired CT/MRI compatible spring that could be employed to modify our previously designed exoskeleton hinge vertebrae to provide immediate in-brace correction, good wear comfort, and one that does not inhibit mobility simultaneously. Additive manufacturing has drawn significant interest in academic and industrial terms due to its ability to produce geometrically complex structures. The structural design and dimension of the proposed 3D printed kirigami-inspired springs were optimized with the finite element method (FEM). The carbon-fiber-reinforced nylon material (PA-CF) was selected as the material of the kirigami-inspired spring with the balance of printing easiness and performance of the material. The stiffness of designed kirigami-inspired springs varied between 1.20 and 42.01 N/mm. A case series study with three scoliosis patients has been conducted to investigate the immediate in-brace effect on reducing the spinal curvature and asymmetry of the body contours using radiographic examination. The experiment results show that there are 4.6%–50.5% improvements in Cobb angle for different sections of spines. The X-ray images proved that our kirigami-inspired springs would not block views for Cobb angle measurements.

Abstract Background MTHFD1 gene may affect the embryonic development by elevated homocysteine levels, DNA synthesis and DNA methylation, but limited number of genetic variants of MTHFD1 gene was focused on the association with congenital heart disease (CHD). This study examined the role of MTHFD1 gene and maternal smoking on infant CHD risk, and investigated their interaction effects in Chinese populations. Methods A case-control study of 464 mothers of CHD infants and 504 mothers of health controls was performed. The exposures of interest were maternal tobacco exposure, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of maternal MTHFD1 gene. The logistic regression model was used for accessing the strength of association. Results Mothers exposed to secondhand smoke during 3 months before pregnancy (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.56; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.13–2.15) and in the first trimester of pregnancy (aOR = 2.24; 95%CI: 1.57–3.20) were observed an increased risk of CHD. Our study also found that polymorphisms of maternal MTHFD1 gene at rs1950902 (AA vs. GG: aOR = 1.73, 95% CI: 1.01–2.97), rs2236222 (GG vs. AA: aOR = 2.38, 95% CI: 1.38–4.12), rs1256142 (GA vs.GG: aOR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.01–2.45) and rs11849530 (GG vs. AA: aOR = 1.68, 95% CI: 1.02–2.77) were significantly associated with higher risk of CHD. However, we did not observe a significant association between maternal MTHFD1 rs2236225 and offspring CHD risk. Furthermore, we found the different degrees of interaction effects between polymorphisms of the MTHFD1 gene including rs1950902, rs2236222, rs1256142, rs11849530 and rs2236225, and maternal tobacco exposure. Conclusions Maternal polymorphisms of MTHFD1 gene, maternal tobacco exposure and their interactions are significantly associated with the risk of CHD in offspring in Han Chinese populations. However, more studies in different ethnic populations with a larger sample and prospective designs are required to confirm our findings. Trial registration Registration number: ChiCTR1800016635 .

Energy storage in wind farms can stabilize the fluctuation of wind power output. Shared energy storage can reduce the construction cost of energy storage devices and stimulate the enthusiasm of wind farms to invest in energy storage. The wind power base is composed of multiple wind farm groups. Existing research methods did not consider how to allocate shared energy storage among wind farm groups in the wind power base. This paper proposes an energy storage capacity allocation method for wind farm groups. Firstly, a bilevel model for the shared energy storage allocation is established. The upper-level model optimizes the shared energy storage allocation of each wind farm group with the goal of minimizing the over-limit power export risk in the wind power base; The lower-level model calculates the over-limit power export of each wind farm group according to the energy storage capacity allocation and transfers the value of over-limit power export to the upper-level model. The bilevel model can be converted to a two-stage model that can be solved sequentially; The wind power base in Belgium is used for numerical simulation to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model. Finally, the sensitivity of confidence level, total energy storage capacity, and risk preference factor are analyzed.

Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) is among the foremost causes of women infertility due to premature partial or total loss of ovarian function. Resistant ovary syndrome (ROS) is a subtype of POI manifested as normal ovarian reserve but insensitive to gonadotropin stimulation. Inactivating variants of follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR), a class A G-protein coupled receptor, have been associated with POI and are inherited via an autosomal recessive pattern. In this study, we investigated the genetic causes of a primary infertility patient manifested as POI with ROS, and elucidated the structural and functional impact of variants of uncertain significance. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) combined with Sanger sequencing revealed novel compound heterozygous FSHR variants: c.1384G>C/p.Ala462Pro and c.1862C>T/p.Ala621Val, inherited from her father and mother, respectively. The two altered amino acid sequences, localized in the third and seventh transmembrane helix of FSHR, were predicted as deleterious by in silico prediction. In vitro experiments revealed that the p.Ala462Pro variant resulted in barely detectable levels of intracellular signaling both in cAMP-dependent CRE-reporter activity and ERK activation and displayed a severely reduced plasma membrane receptor expression. In contrast, the p.Ala621Val variant resulted in partial loss of receptor activation without disruption of cell surface expression. In conclusion, two unreported inactivating FSHR variants potentially responsible for POI with ROS were first identified. This study expands the current phenotypic and genotypic spectrum of POI.

Patrinia monandra C. B. Clarke is traditionally used for the treatment of inflammation, typhoid fever, injuries due to falls, abdominal pain, malaria, and acute appendicitis ulcers in China and Korea. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of P. monandra was sequenced using the Illumina HiSeq X-Ten platform. It had a circular shape and a length of 158,940 bp, with 38.51% GC content. It contained a large single-copy region of 87,641 bp, a small single-copy region of 12,807 bp, and two inverted repeat regions of 29,246 bp. In total, 128 different genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, 37 distinct tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes, were identified. Maximum-likelihood phylogenomic analysis showed that P. monandra is closely related to Patrinia scabiosifolia and Patrinia villosa in the Valerianaceae family. There were 4535 variable sites, 157,354 conserved sites, and 3085 singleton sites in the six Patrinia chloroplast genomes.

Abstract Endometriosis is one of the most common disorders that causes infertility in women. Iron is overloaded in endometriosis peritoneal fluid (PF), with harmful effects on early embryo development. However, the mechanism by which endometriosis peritoneal fluid affects embryonic development remains unclear. Hence, this study investigated the effect of iron overload on mouse embryos and elucidated the molecular mechanism. Iron overload in endometriosis PF disrupted blastocyst formation, decreased GPX4 expression and induced lipid peroxidation, suggesting that iron overload causes embryotoxicity and induces ferroptosis. Moreover, mitochondrial damage occurs in iron overload-treated embryos, presenting as decreased ATP levels, increased ROS levels and MMP hyperpolarization. The cytotoxicity of iron overload is attenuated by the ferroptosis inhibitor Fer-1. Furthermore, Smart-seq analysis revealed that HMOX1 is upregulated in embryo ferroptosis and that HMOX1 suppresses ferroptosis by maintaining mitochondrial function. This study provides new insight into the mechanism of endometriosis infertility and a potential target for future endometriosis infertility treatment efforts.

Abstract Background FOXL2 mutations in human cause Blepharophimosis, ptosis, and epicanthus inversus syndrome (BPES). While type II BPES solely features eyelid abnormality, type I BPES involves not only eyelid but also ovary, leading to primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) and female infertility. Current mainstream reproductive option for type I BPES is embryo or oocyte donation. Attempts on assisted reproductive technology (ART) aiming biological parenthood in this population were sparse and mostly unsuccessful. Case presentation Two Chinese type I BPES patients with low anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) and elevated follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) presented with primary infertility in their early 30s. Genetic studies confirmed two heterozygous duplication mutations that were never reported previously in East Asian populations. They received in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and both exhibited resistance to gonadotropin and difficulty in retrieving oocytes in repeated cycles. Doubled to quadrupled total gonadotropin doses were required to awaken follicular response. Patient 1 delivered a baby girl with the same eyelid phenotype and patient 2 had ongoing live intrauterine pregnancy at the time of manuscript submission. Conclusions This is the second reported live birth of biological offspring in type I BPES patients, and first success using IVF techniques. It confirmed that ART is difficult but feasible in type I BPES. It further alerts clinicians and genetic counsellors to type female BPES patients with caution in view of the precious and potentially narrowed reproductive window.

BackgroundLow birth weight (LBW) is one of the most common adverse pregnancy outcomes. Previous studies have consistently shown that maternal body mass index (BMI) status before and during pregnancy is associated with LBW. However, previous studies lacked an association between paternal BMI and the conjunction effect of a couple's BMI and LBW in the offspring. Therefore, we established a cohort of pre-pregnancy couples to prospectively assess the relationship between maternal and paternal pre-pregnancy BMI and offspring LBW, very low birth weight (VLBW), and extremely low birth weight (ELBW).MethodsA prospective cohort study was established in Central China. A total of 34,104 pregnant women with singleton pregnancies at 8–14 gestational weeks and their husbands were finally enrolled and followed to 3 months postpartum. The multivariate logistic regression and restrictive cubic spline model were used to explore the relationship between parental pre-pregnancy BMI and the risk of LBW, VLBW, and ELBW in offspring.ResultsOf the 34,104 participants, maternal pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity were associated with a higher risk of LBW (overweight: OR = 1.720, 95% CI = 1.533 ~ 1.930; obesity: OR = 1.710, 95% CI = 1.360 ~ 2.151), VLBW (overweight: OR = 2.283, 95% CI = 1.839 ~ 2.834; obesity: OR = 4.023, 95% CI = 2.855 ~ 5.670), and ELBW (overweight: OR = 3.292, 95% CI = 2.151 ~ 5.036; obesity: OR = 3.467, 95% CI = 1.481 ~ 8.115), while underweight was associated with a higher risk of LBW (OR = 1.438, 95% CI = 1.294 ~ 1.599) and a lower risk of ELBW (OR = 0.473, 95% CI = 0.236 ~ 0.946). Paternal pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity were associated with a higher risk of LBW (overweight: OR = 1.637, 95% CI = 1.501 ~ 1.784; obesity: OR = 1.454, 95% CI = 1.289 ~ 1.641) and VLBW (overweight: OR = 1.310, 95% CI = 1.097 ~ 1.564; obesity: OR = 1.320, 95% CI = 1.037 ~ 1.681), while underweight was associated with a lower risk of LBW (OR = 0.660, 95% CI = 0.519 ~ 0.839). Parents who were both excessive-weights in pre-pregnancy BMI, as well as overweight mothers and normal-weight fathers before pre-pregnancy, were more likely to have offspring with LBW, VLBW, and ELBW. Dose-response relationship existed between parental pre-pregnancy and LBW, VLBW, and ELBW, except for paternal BMI and ELBW.ConclusionsParental pre-pregnancy BMI was associated with the risk of LBW in offspring. Management of weight before pregnancy for couples might help reduce their adverse pregnancy outcomes in future intervention studies.

Smith–Purcell radiation (SPR) is a phenomenon in that free electrons moving above a periodic structure deliver a part of their kinetic energies to electromagnetic waves. It plays an important role in the development of radiation sources and beam diagnosis. With the development of nanofabrication technology, various complex micro‐nano‐metallic periodic or aperiodic structures have been adopted to improve the efficiency and coherence of SPR. In general, when free electrons move above the metallic periodic structure, the localized surface wave and Smith–Purcell radiation wave are excited simultaneously. As the frequency of the surface wave is always lower than the threshold of Smith–Purcell radiation, the surface wave cannot be radiated. Here, the surface wave is transformed into SPR by using a novel composite subwavelength hole array, thus the SPR is enhanced and it becomes coherent and easy to tune. This work provides a competitive approach to achieve a coherent and high‐efficiency THz radiation source.

BackgroundWith the current global epidemic of obesity, especially among men, there is a need to understand its impact on adverse pregnancy outcomes. This study aimed to assess whether paternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) was associated with preterm birth and low birth weight in offspring.MethodsMultinomial logistic regression model was used to analyze associations between paternal BMI and preterm birth and low birth weight in different subgroups, the final model was adjusted for confounding factors of mothers and fathers. Further subgroup analysis was conducted to explore the stability of the risk associations.ResultsA total of 34,104 participants were included in this study, including 1,442 (4.2%) underweight, 13,930 (40.9%) overweight and 5,008 (14.7%) obese according to paternal BMI. The total incidence of preterm birth was 11.85% (4041/34104), and the incidence of low birth weight was 8.86% (3020/34104). In the total study population, compared with normal weight men, paternal pre-pregnancy overweight or obese was associated with a significantly increased risk of preterm birth [aOR; 95% CI respectively (1.34; 1.25–1.45 vs. 1.26; 1.14–1.40)] and low birth weight [aOR; 95% CI respectively (1.60; 1.46–1.74 vs. 1.40; 1.25–1.58)] in offspring. The results of subgroup analysis showed that the direction of the risk association was consistent, indicating good stability.ConclusionPaternal pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity were associated with an increased risk of preterm birth and low birth weight in their offspring.

This study was to explore whether postponing frozen embryo transfers (FET) after oocyte pickup (OPU) improves clinical and neonatal outcomes. From May 2018 to Dec 2020, a total of 1109 patients underwent their first OPU cycles adopting a non-selective freeze-all policy were included in this retrospective cohort study. In the immediate group (n=219), patients underwent FET in the first menstrual cycle after OPU, and patients in the postponed group (n=890) waited for more than 1 menstrual cycle after OPU to perform FET. A propensity score matching (PSM) model was used to evaluate the clinical outcomes and neonatal outcomes between the two groups. There were 209 patients in the immediate group and 499 patients in the postponed one after PSM. Patients waited for a significantly shorter period for FET in the immediate group (30.74 ± 3.85 days) compared with the postponed group (80.39 ± 26.25 days, P 0.05). No statistical significance was found in the average birth weight (3088.82 ± 565.35 g vs 3038.64 ± 625.78 g, P > 0.05) and height (49.08 ± 1.87 cm vs 49.30 ± 2.52 cm) of neonates between the two groups. The gender ratio, the incidence of macrosomia and low birth weight did not differ significantly between the two groups. In conclusion, postponing FET does not improve clinical and neonatal outcomes. If patients have no contraindications, FETs should be carried out immediately after OPU.

BackgroundTo systematically evaluate the association of MTHFR genetic polymorphisms, maternal folic acid intake, and the time when folic acid intake was started with the risk of congenital heart disease (CHD) and investigated the role of their interaction on infant CHD risk in Chinese populations.MethodsA case–control study involving 592 CHD cases, 617 health controls, and their mothers was performed. The exposures of interest were single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the MTHFR gene, maternal folic acid use, and the time when folic acid use was started. We applied the logistic regression model to explore the strength of association.ResultsOur findings showed that mothers lacking folic acid intake had a significantly higher risk of CHD in offspring (aOR = 2.00; 95%CI: 1.34–2.98). Mothers who started to use folic acid from the first trimester of the fetation (aOR = 1.65; 95% CI: 1.22–2.23) or from the second trimester of the fetation (aOR = 7.77; 95% CI: 2.52–23.96), compared with those starting to use folic acid from 3 months previous to the conception, were at a significantly higher risk of CHD in offspring. Genetic variants at rs2066470 (AA vs. GG: aOR = 5.09, 95%CI: 1.99–13.03), rs1801133 (AA vs. GG: aOR = 2.49, 95%CI: 1.58–3.93), and rs1801131 (TG vs. TT: aOR = 1.84, 95%CI: 1.36–2.50; GG vs. TT: aOR = 3.58, 95%CI: 1.68–7.63) were significantly associated with the risk of CHD based on the multivariate analysis. Additionally, statistically significant interactions between maternal folic acid intake and genetic variants of the MTHFR gene at rs1801133 and rs1801131 were observed.ConclusionAn association of maternal folic acid intake and the time when intake was started with the risk of CHD in offspring was found. Endometriosis is defined as a disorder in which the glands and stroma of the endometrium grow and shed periodically outside the uterine cavity. Highly prevalent in women of reproductive age, the most common clinical manifestations are chronic pelvic pain and infertility. The pathogenesis of endometriosis may be multifactorial, including factors of anatomy, immunity, inflammation, hormones (estrogen), oxidative stress, genetics, epigenetics, and environment. There are generally three types of endometriotic disease, namely peritoneal, ovarian, and deep infiltration. For the same patient, there may be a single or multiple types concurrently. The different manifestations of these types suggests that they each have their own etiology. Numerous studies have shown that the evasion of endometrial cells from peritoneal immune surveillance helps establish and maintain peritoneal endometriosis, but the specific mechanism is not well understood. Likewise, the molecular mechanisms of endometriosis-related infertility have not been clearly elucidated. This review attempts to identify the role of peritoneal immunity in peritoneal endometriosis and related infertility, especially in the aspects of molecular mechanisms.

Kirigami structures, a Japanese paper-cutting art form, has been widely adopted in engineering design, including robotics, biomedicine, energy harvesting, and sensing. This study investigated the effects of slit edge notches on the mechanical properties, particularly the tensile stiffness, of 3D-printed PA12 nylon kirigami specimens. Thirty-five samples were designed with various notch sizes and shapes and printed using a commercial 3D printer with multi-jet fusion (MJF) technique. Finite element analysis (FEA) was employed to determine the mechanical properties of the samples computationally. The results showed that the stiffness of the kirigami samples is positively correlated with the number of edges in the notch shape and quadratically negatively correlated with the notch area of the samples. The mathematical relationship between the stretching tensile stiffness of the samples and their notch area was established and explained from an energy perspective. The relationship established in this study can help fine-tune the stiffness of kirigami-inspired structures without altering the primary parameters of kirigami samples. With the rapid fabrication method (e.g., 3D printing technique), the kirigami samples with suitable mechanical properties can be potentially applied to planar springs for hinge structures or energy-absorbing/harvesting structures. These findings will provide valuable insights into the development and optimization of kirigami-inspired structures for various applications in the future.

This paper proposes a method for accurate 3D posture sensing of the soft actuators, which could be applied to the closed-loop control of soft robots. To achieve this, the method employs an array of miniaturized sponge resistive materials along the soft actuator, which uses long short-term memory (LSTM) neural networks to solve the end-to-end 3D posture for the soft actuators. The method takes into account the hysteresis of the soft robot and non-linear sensing signals from the flexible bending sensors. The proposed approach uses a flexible bending sensor made from a thin layer of conductive sponge material designed for posture sensing. The LSTM network is used to model the posture of the soft actuator. The effectiveness of the method has been demonstrated on a finger-size 3 degree of freedom (DOF) pneumatic bellow-shaped actuator, with nine flexible sponge resistive sensors placed on the soft actuator’s outer surface. The sensor-characterizing results show that the maximum bending torque of the sensor installed on the actuator is 4.7 Nm, which has an insignificant impact on the actuator motion based on the working space test of the actuator. Moreover, the sensors exhibit a relatively low error rate in predicting the actuator tip position, with error percentages of 0.37%, 2.38%, and 1.58% along the x-, y-, and z-axes, respectively. This work is expected to contribute to the advancement of soft robot dynamic posture perception by using thin sponge sensors and LSTM or other machine learning methods for control.

Abstract Background Laser-assisted hatching (LAH) has been widely applied to facilitate blastocyst hatching in IVF-ET treatment, however, the effect of LAH on subsequent development and clinical outcomes of the lower grade cleavage stage embryos (LGCE) remains unknown. Our study aimed at evaluating the effect of LAH on blastocyst formation and the clinical pregnancy outcomes of LGCE embryos after transfer. Methods A total of 608 cycles of IVF/ICSI treatment from November 2017 to September 2019 were included in our study as follows: 296 in the LAH group and 312 in the N-LAH group. The total blastocyst rate, usable blastocyst rate, good-grade blastocyst rate and clinical pregnancy rate were statistically compared between the two groups. Results The total blastocyst rate (50.7% vs 40.2%, P 0.05, respectively). Conclusions A higher proportion of total blastocysts and usable blastocysts can be obtained by LAH in LGCE, which may be beneficial to the outcome of the IVF/ICSI-ET cycle.

Many patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) refrain from seeking pregnancy, suffer from infertility or worry about pregnancy complications, mainly due to genitalia abnormalities, anovulation, unreceptive endometrium and metabolic disturbances. Despite those challenges, many live births have been reported. In this systematic review, we focused on the key to successful assisted reproduction strategies and the potential pregnancy complications. We did a systematic literature search of Pubmed, Medline and Scopus for articles reporting successful pregnancies in CAH other than 21-hydroxylase deficiency, and found 25 studies reporting 39 pregnancies covering deficiency in steroidogenic acute regulatory protein, 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase, 11β-hydroxylase, P450 oxidoreductase, cytochrome b5 and 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. We summarized various clinical manifestations and tailored reproduction strategy for each subtype. Furthermore, a meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the pregnancy complications of CAH patients. A total of 19 cross-sectional or cohort studies involving 1311 pregnancies of classic and non-classic CAH patients were included. Surprisingly, as high as 5.5% (95% CI 2.3%-9.7%) of pregnancies were electively aborted, and the risk was significantly higher in those studies with a larger proportion of classic CAH than those with only non-classical patients (8.43% (4.1%-13.81%) VS 3.75%(1.2%-7.49%)), which called for better family planning. Pooled incidence of miscarriage was 18.2% (13.4%-23.4%) with a relative risk (RR) of 1.86 (1.27-2.72) compared to control. The miscarriage rate in non-classical CAH patients was not significantly different with or without glucocorticoid treatment from retrospective studies. CAH patients were also more susceptible to gestational diabetes mellitus, with a prevalence of 7.3% (2.4%-14.1%) and a RR 2.57 (1.29-5.12). However, risks of preeclampsia, preterm birth and small for gestational age were not significantly different. 67.8% (50.8%-86.9%) CAH patients underwent Cesarean delivery, 3.86 (1.66-8.97) times the risk of the control group. BackgroundWith the increase in maternal antidepressant prescribing before/during pregnancy, concerns about the safety of antidepressants have come into focus. The purpose of this study was to explore the association between maternal antidepressant use before pregnancy/in early pregnancy and the risk of congenital heart disease (CHD) in children, and to provide a scientific basis for clinical safety of antidepressant use.MethodsThe prospective cohort study ultimately included 34,104 singleton pregnancies. Modified Poisson regression model with robust error variances was used to evaluate RRs and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the risk of CHD in offspring exposed to maternal antidepressant in the 3 months before pregnancy and early pregnancy. In addition, sensitivity analysis was further performed to explore the robustness of the results.ResultsIn this study, the maternal antidepressant exposure rate was 2.83% in the 3 months before pregnancy, 2.42% in early pregnancy, and the incidence of CHD was 8.973 per 1,000 live births. We found that maternal antidepressant use in the 3 months before pregnancy and early pregnancy were all associated with an increased risk of CHD, ~2.54 times and 2.87 times, respectively, of non-use of antidepressants after adjusting for potential confounders. This association was also found in CHD specific phenotypic analysis. Of these, offspring whose mothers were exposed to antidepressants in the 3 months before pregnancy had the highest risk of transposition of the great arteries (aOR = 5.50, 95% CI: 1.91–15.88). The offspring of mothers exposed to antidepressants in early pregnancy had the highest risk of developing ventricular septal defect (aOR = 4.80, 95% CI: 2.50–9.24). Sensitivity analysis verified the stability of the results.ConclusionsMaternal antidepressant use in the 3 months before pregnancy and early pregnancy were all associated with an increased risk of CHD in their offspring. In order to reduce the risk of teratogenesis, we recommend that pregnant women prepare for pregnancy after their condition improves or receive the minimum effective dose of medication.

A randomized sibling-embryo pilot trial investigated whether two ways of laser-assisted hatching result in different blastulation and clinical outcomes after extended in vitro culture process of highly fragmented day-3 cleavage embryos. From 92 couples, a total of 315 highly fragmented day-3 embryos (the fragmentation >25%) were recruited and randomized into laser-assisted zona thinning (LAT, n=157) and opening (LAO, n=158) groups, and then underwent a blastocyst culture in vitro. The main endpoint measurements including blastocyst formation and grading as well as the clinical pregnancy after blastocyst transfer were obtained during the treatment procedure of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer, and then analyzed with generalized estimating equation (GEE) and/or time-to blastocyst analysis models. A total of 166 day-3 embryos developed into blastocyst stage (52.70%), of which 97 were viable blastocysts (30.79%), and 42 top-quality ones (13.33%). LAT did not have any inferior or superior to LAO in the endpoints of either total, viable, top-quality or hatched blastocyst formation, with the ORs (95%CI) from GEE model as 0.89 (0.55-1.45), 0.71 (0.42-1.21), 1.12 (0.56-2.25) and 0.68 (0.42-1.12) respectively for LAT treatment. And the time-to-blastocyst analysis showed a similar result. Additionally, no difference in clinical outcomes after blastocyst transfer was found between the two groups. The author concluded that when applying the LAHs during the extended culture of highly fragmented embryos, both LAT and LAO can generate a promising clinical outcome, and the LAT operation be equivalent to the LAO. Future well-designed, multiple-center, larger-sample investigations are required to ascertain above conclusion.

Abstract The XENON1T collaboration reported an excess of the low-energy electron recoil events between 1 and 7 keV. We explore the possibility to explain such an anomaly by the MeV-scale dark matter (DM) heated by the interior of the Sun due to the same DM-electron interaction as in the detector. The kinetic energies of heated DM particles can reach a few keV, and can potentially account for the excess signals detected by XENON1T. We study different form factors of the DM-electron interactions, F(q) ∝ q i with q being the momentum exchange and i = 0, 1, 2, and find that for all these cases the inclusion of the Sun-heated DM component improves the fit to the XENON1T data. The inferred DM-electron scattering cross section (at q = αm e where α is the fine structure constant and m e is electron mass) is from ∼ 10 −38 cm2 (for i = 0) to ∼ 10 −42 cm2 (for i = 2). We also derive constraints on the DM-electron cross sections for these form factors, which are stronger than previous results with similar assumptions. We emphasize that the Sun-heated DM scenario relies on the minimum assumption on DM models, which serves as a general explanation of the XENON1T anomaly via DM-electron interaction. The spectrum of the Sun-heated DM is typically soft comparing to other boosted DM, so the small recoil events are expected to be abundant in this scenario. More sensitive direct detection experiments with lower thresholds can possibly distinguish this scenario with other boosted DM models or solar axion models.

Abstract We describe the on-shell method to derive the Renormalization Group (RG) evolution of Wilson coefficients of high dimensional operators at one loop, which is a necessary part in the on-shell construction of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), and exceptionally efficient based on the amplitude basis in hand. The UV divergence is obtained by firstly calculating the coefficients of scalar bubble integrals by unitary cuts, then subtracting the IR divergence in the massless bubbles, which can be easily read from the collinear factors we obtained for the Standard Model fields. Examples of deriving the anomalous dimensions at dimension six are presented in a pedagogical manner. We also give the results of contributions from the dimension-8 H 4 D 4 operators to the running of V + V − H 2 operators, as well as the running of B + B − H 2 D 2n from H 4 D 2n+4 for general n.

AbstractObjective To explore the possible aetiology of subchorionic haematoma (SCH), especially its association with autoantibodies.Material and methods Early pregnant women who were detected SCH through ultrasonography were identified as the study group and those without SCH at comparable ages who visited the clinic at the same period of time were compared as the control group. Indexes of laboratory immune tests were compared between the two groups, as well as their pregnancy outcomes.Results A total of 97 SCH patients and 130 control cases were recruited in this study. A higher proportion of women was detected autoantibodies in the SCH group compared with control group (45.36% vs 21.54%, p = .000). Positive rates of ANA (24.74% vs 10.77%, p = .005) and laboratory antiphospholipid antibodies (ACL, anti-β2 GP1 or LA) (25.77% vs 11.54%, p = .005) showed significant differences between the two groups. The incidence of vaginal bleeding was significantly higher in the SCH group (43.30% vs 20.00%, p = .000). While the miscarriage rates were not significantly different (17.53% vs 15.38%, p = .666). And there were no significant differences in terms of preterm delivery rate, caesarean section rate, birth weight and pregnancy complications. Most SCHs (96.25%) were absorbed before 20th gestational week. In the SCH group, the average birth weight was significantly lower in women with autoantibodies. Clinical features and other pregnancy outcomes showed no significant differences between SCH patients with and without autoantibodies.Conclusions The occurrence of SCH may be associated with autoantibodies.
