Abstract Aim This study explored the relationship between language confidence and job satisfaction, the mediating role of workplace discrimination, and the moderating role of immigration duration among foreign-born nurses in Japan. Introduction Job satisfaction is an important factor in preventing migrant nurses’ turnover intentions; however, the relationships among language confidence, immigration duration, workplace discrimination, and job satisfaction among foreign-born nurses remain unclear. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted. Data were collected between June and August 2022 through an online survey of nurses who were born outside of Japan but were currently working as registered nurses in Japan. PROCESS v4.0 Macro for SPSS 28.0 was applied to analyze the effect of language confidence on job satisfaction, the mediator effect of workplace discrimination (model 4), and the moderator effect of immigration duration (model 15). Results Data from 187 participants were analyzed. The results showed that 1) foreign-born nurses’ language confidence was negatively correlated with workplace discrimination and positively correlated with job satisfaction; 2) workplace discrimination played a partially mediating role between language confidence and job satisfaction; and 3) immigration duration positively moderated the relationship between language confidence and job satisfaction. Conclusion Foreign-born nurses with stronger confidence in their proficiency in Japanese perceived less workplace discrimination and higher job satisfaction. Workplace discrimination acted as a mediator in the relationship between language confidence and job satisfaction, and this relationship was strengthened with longer migration periods. Managers and policymakers should implement policies and strategies to combat workplace discrimination and provide tailored support to improve foreign-born nurses’ job satisfaction, which may contribute to their retention in Japan.

Abstract Background Acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a common acute respiratory failure due to diffuse pulmonary inflammation and oedema. Elaborate regulation of macrophage activation is essential for managing this inflammatory process and maintaining tissue homeostasis. In the past decades, metabolic reprogramming of macrophages has emerged as a predominant role in modulating their biology and function. Here, we observed reduced expression of carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1A (CPT1A), a key rate‐limiting enzyme of fatty acid oxidation (FAO), in macrophages of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced ALI mouse model. We assume that CPT1A and its regulated FAO is involved in the regulation of macrophage polarization, which could be positive regulated by interleukin‐10 (IL‐10). Methods After nasal inhalation rIL‐10 and/or LPS, wild type (WT), IL‐10‐/‐, Cre‐CPT1Afl/fl and Cre+CPT1Afl/fl mice were sacrificed to harvest bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, blood serum and lungs to examine cell infiltration, cytokine production, lung injury severity and IHC. Bone marrow‐derived macrophages (BMDMs) were extracted from mice and stimulated by exogenous rIL‐10 and/or LPS. The qRT‐PCR, Seahorse XFe96 and FAO metabolite related kits were used to test the glycolysis and FAO level in BMDMs. Immunoblotting assay, confocal microscopy and fluorescence microplate were used to test macrophage polarization as well as mitochondrial structure and function damage. Results In in vivo experiments, we found that mice lacking CPT1A or IL‐10 produced an aggravate inflammatory response to LPS stimulation. However, the addition of rIL‐10 could alleviate the pulmonary inflammation in mice effectively. IHC results showed that IL‐10 expression in lung macrophage decreased dramatically in Cre+CPT1Afl/fl mice. The in vitro experiments showed Cre+CPT1Afl/fl and IL‐10‐/‐ BMDMs became more “glycolytic”, but less “FAO” when subjected to external attacks. However, the supplementation of rIL‐10 into macrophages showed reverse effect. CPT1A and IL‐10 can drive the polarization of BMDM from M1 phenotype to M2 phenotype, and CPT1A‐IL‐10 axis is also involved in the process of maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis. Conclusions CPT1A modulated metabolic reprogramming and polarisation of macrophage under LPS stimulation. The protective effects of CPT1A may be partly attributed to the induction of IL‐10/IL‐10 receptor expression.

IntroductionThyroid function during pregnancy fluctuates with gestational weeks, seasons and other factors. However, it is currently unknown whether there is a fetal sex-specific thyroid function in pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to investigate the fetal sex differences of maternal thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and free thyroxine (FT4) in pregnant women.MethodsThis single-center retrospective real-world study was performed by reviewing the medical records of pregnant women who received regular antenatal health care and delivered liveborn infants in Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital (Pudong branch), from Aug. 18, 2013 to Jul. 18, 2020. Quantile regression was used to evaluate the relationship between various variables and TSH and FT4 concentrations. The quantile regression also evaluated the sex impact of different gestational weeks on the median of TSH and FT4.ResultsA total of 69,243 pregnant women with a mean age of 30.36 years were included. 36197 (52.28%) deliveries were boys. In the three different trimesters, the median levels (interquartile range) of TSH were 1.18 (0.66, 1.82) mIU/L and 1.39 (0.85, 2.05) mIU/L, 1.70 (1.19, 2.40) mIU/L; and the median levels (interquartile range) of FT4 were 16.63 (15.16, 18.31) pmol/L, 14.09 (12.30, 16.20) pmol/L and 13.40 (11.52, 14.71) pmol/L, respectively. The maternal TSH upper limit of reference ranges was decreased more in mothers with female fetuses during gestational weeks 7 to 12, while their FT4 upper limit of the reference ranges was increased more than those with male fetuses. Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technology can tie together a set of Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) as a Service Function Chain (SFC). Although NFV is a promising technology for the placement of user service requests, SFCs often suffer from high delay and low throughput. This paper develops an efficient approach based on Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) with the aim of deploying VNFs with low delay during heterogeneous bandwidth demands in Data Center Networks (DCNs). We design an architecture that exploits the dependencies of VNFs to parallelize them and also preserve more resources for processing future requests by extracting the distribution of initialized VNFs. Our algorithm is expected to maximize the long-term reward and improve the computational acceleration in provisioning user service requests. Our evaluations show that the proposed algorithm reduces the service delay by 12% through parallelized VNFs.

Abstract Tumor metastasis remains a leading factor in the failure of cancer treatments and patient mortality. To address this, a silver‐induced absorption red‐shifted core‐shell nano‐particle is developed, and surface‐modified with triphenylphosphonium bromide (TPP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) to obtain a novel nanodiagnosis‐treatment agent (Ag@CuS‐TPP@HA). This diagnosis‐treatment agent can dual‐targets cancer cells and mitochondria, and exhibits maximal light absorption at 1064 nm, thereby enhancing nesr‐infrared II (NIR‐II) photoacoustic (PA) signal and photothermal effects under 1064 nm laser irradiation. Additionally, the silver in Ag@CuS‐TPP@HA can catalyze the Fenton‐like reactions with H2O2 in the tumor tissue, yielding reactive oxygen species (ROS). The ROS production, coupled with enhanced photothermal effects, instigates immunogenic cell death (ICD), leading to a substantial release of tumor‐associated antigens (TAAs) and damage‐associated molecular patterns, which have improved the tumor immune suppression microenvironment and boosting immune checkpoint blockade therapy, thus stimulating a systemic antitumor immune response. Hence, Ag@CuS‐TPP@HA, as a cancer diagnostic‐treatment agent, not only accomplishes targeted the NIR‐II PA imaging of tumor tissue and addresses the challenge of accurate diagnosis of deep cancer tissue in vivo, but it also leverages ROS/photothermal therapy to enhance immune checkpoint blockade, thereby eliminating primary tumors and effectively inhibiting distant tumor growth.

Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is characterized with vascular remodeling, which is intiated by vascular endothelial dysfunction. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification mediates gene expression in many ways including mediating RNA degradation, splicing, nuclear export et al. m6A modification have been found to be associated with the development of PH. However, the role of m6A regulators in pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAECs) dysfunction of PH is still under research. Methods: The expression levels of m6A regulators in PAECs were analyzed with the single-cell sequencing Data(scRNA). Next, the target differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of m6A regulators in PAECs were functionally annotated. The analysis of cellular interactions included the examination of receptor—ligand pairs regulated by m6A regulators. Pseudo-time trajectory analyses and a ceRNA network involving lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs were conducted in PAECs. Furthermore, microarray data (GSE180169) for Sugen Hypoxia PH (SuHx PH) mouse models was screened for DEGs and m6A regulators in PAECs. Moreover, the expression of YTHDC1 in the lung samples of SuHx PH models was determined using immunofluorescence. In vitro, the mRNA expression of YTHDC1 in HPAECs under hypoxia conditions was detected. The effect of YTHDC1 recombinant protein on HPAEC proliferation was detected by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8). Results: Dysregulation of m6A regulators was observed in mouse PAECs. The m6A reader of YTHDC1 was decreased in PAECs in scRNA data and RNAseq data of isolated PAECs of SuHx PH models. Downregulation of YTHDC1 was caused by hypoxia in PAECs in vitro and similar results was observed in PAECs of SuHx PH mouse models. Next, YTHDC1 recombinant protein was found to inhibit HPAECs proliferation. The DEGs targeted by YTHDC1 were enriched in angiogenesis, endothelial cell migration, fluid shear stress, and stem cell maintenance. Analysis indicates that interactions among endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells, mediated by specific YTHDC1 target genes (e.g., PTPRC-MRC1, ITBG2-ICAM1, COL4A1-CD44), contribute to PH development. Also, the YTHDC1 expression were consistent with Thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP). What's more, the predicted transcription factors showed that NFKB1, Foxd3 may be involved in the regulation of YTHDC1. Lastly, our data suggest that YTHDC1 may be involved in regulating PAECs dysfunction through lncRNA/miRNA/mRNA network. Conclusion: For the first time, we analyzed changes in the expression and biological functions of m6A regulators in SuHx PH mouse models. We causatively linked YTHDC1 to PAECs dysfunction, providing novel insight into and opportunities to diagnose and treat PH.

It is crucial to assess the impact of climate change on crop productivity and sustainability for the development of effective adaptation measures. Crop models are essential for quantifying this impact on crop yields. To better express crops’ intrinsic growth and development patterns and their plasticity under different environmental conditions, the functional–structural plant model (FSPM) “GreenLab” has been developed. GreenLab is an organ-level model that can describe the intrinsic growth and development patterns of plants based on mathematical expressions without considering the influence of environmental factors, and then simulate the growth and development of plants in expressing plant plasticity under different environmental conditions. Moreover, the distinctive feature of GreenLab lies in its ability to compute model source–sink parameters affecting biomass production and allocation based on measured plant data. Over the past two decades, the GreenLab model has undergone continuous development, incorporating novel modeling methods and techniques, including the dual-scale automaton, substructure methods, the inverse of source–sink parameters, crown analysis, organic series, potential structure, and parameter optimization techniques. This paper reviews the development history, the basic concepts, main theories, characteristics, and applications of the GreenLab model. Additionally, we introduce the software tools that implement the GreenLab model. Last, we discuss the perspectives and directions for the GreenLab model’s future development.

AimThis study evaluated the sex-and age-specific usefulness of the Little Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire-Chinese (LDCDQ-CH) in Chinese preschoolers.MethodA population-based sample of 51,110 children aged 3–5 years was recruited. Internal reliability, construct validity, concurrent validity with the Ages and Stages Questionnaire-third edition (ASQ-3), and discriminant validity with the Movement Assessment Battery for Children-second edition (MABC-2) were assessed. Age and sex effects on LDCDQ-CH scores were analyzed using ANOVA and t-tests.ResultsThe LDCDQ-CH exhibited excellent internal consistency and reliability across ages and genders. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the 15-item model’s satisfactory fit. Positive and significant correlations were observed between LDCDQ-CH and ASQ-3 scores, indicating robust concurrent validity. Significant associations were found between LDCDQ-CH and MABC-2 scores. Higher scores were observed in older children and girls, indicating age- and sex-related differences in motor functional performance.ConclusionThe LDCDQ-CH is a reliable and valid tool to support early identification of motor coordination difficulty in Chinese preschoolers, and guiding interventions. Findings support its use across ages and genders, highlighting its potential in the Chinese context. Age- and sex-specific norms are needed for enhanced clinical applicability.

Abstract Resting heart rate is associated with cardiovascular diseases and mortality in observational and Mendelian randomization studies. The aims of this study are to extend the number of resting heart rate associated genetic variants and to obtain further insights in resting heart rate biology and its clinical consequences. A genome-wide meta-analysis of 100 studies in up to 835,465 individuals reveals 493 independent genetic variants in 352 loci, including 68 genetic variants outside previously identified resting heart rate associated loci. We prioritize 670 genes and in silico annotations point to their enrichment in cardiomyocytes and provide insights in their ECG signature. Two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses indicate that higher genetically predicted resting heart rate increases risk of dilated cardiomyopathy, but decreases risk of developing atrial fibrillation, ischemic stroke, and cardio-embolic stroke. We do not find evidence for a linear or non-linear genetic association between resting heart rate and all-cause mortality in contrast to our previous Mendelian randomization study. Systematic alteration of key differences between the current and previous Mendelian randomization study indicates that the most likely cause of the discrepancy between these studies arises from false positive findings in previous one-sample MR analyses caused by weak-instrument bias at lower P-value thresholds. The results extend our understanding of resting heart rate biology and give additional insights in its role in cardiovascular disease development.

Abstract Background Retrograde approach technique has been challenging in percutaneous coronary interventional treatment of chronic total occlusion (CTO) coronary disease. The present study endeavors to determine a novel Chinese scoring system for predicting successful collateral channels traverse via retrograde approach. Methods The demographic characteristics and angiographic characteristics of 309 CTO patient were analyzed by univariable and multivariable analysis for selecting potential predictors. And the nomogram was used to establish the scoring system. Then it was evaluated by the internal and external validation. Results The predictors of Age, Connections between collateral channels and recipient vessels, and Channel Tortuosity (ACT) were identified with univariable and multivariable analysis and employed to the ACT score system. With acceptable calibrations, the area under curve of the scoring system and the external validation were 0.826 and 0.816 respectively. Based on score, the predictors were divided into three risk categories and it showed a consistent prediction power in the validation cohort. Conclusions The novel Chinese ACT score is a reliable tool for predicting successful retrograde collateral traverse.

Superhydrophobic fabrics suggest tremendous potential in some emerging fields such as electronic skin, bioelectronic sensors and special clothing due to their excellent liquid repellency and self-cleaning properties. However, currently reported superhydrophobic materials are usually prepared using biologically toxic fluorinated compounds, which severely restricts their practical applications. Herein, we propose a two-step thiol-ene click reaction strategy to fabricate fluorine-free superhydrophobic cotton fibers (Fabric-SH-PB-SiO2). The 1,2-polybutadiene (1,2-PB) with flexible rubber molecular chains and low surface energy was coated by cotton fiber through thiol-ene click reaction. Subsequently, based on this reaction, the coated cotton fiber was used to establish chemical bonds with hydrophobic silica. The Fabric-SH-PB-SiO2 possesses a rich multi-level micro-nano structure that can form stable air layer on the surface of the fabric, which showed a high hydrophobic angle of 156° and exhibited some distinct advantages such as anti-fouling and self-cleaning characteristics, high buoyancy, and reduced drag. More remarkably, the Fabric-SH-PB-SiO2 could float on the water surface after carrying 34 times its weight. Compared with unmodified fabrics, the Fabric-SH-PB-SiO2 demonstrated a high drag reduction rate of up to 102 %, among the highest values for the reported hydrophobic materials. The strategy developed here provides insights towards fabricating high-buoyancy fluorine-free superhydrophobic cotton fibers.

A large number of farms in developing countries are smallholder farms. In China, this trend is expected to persist for the foreseeable future. However, smallholder farmers in China face several challenges, including excessive fertilizer use for higher yields, low levels of education, aging and limited credit information. Moreover, they are struggling with a digital divide, which hampers their agricultural productivity and limits their economic and social integration. Agricultural services based on information and communication technology (ICT) can bridge the digital gap, but are hindered by complexity and cost. Aiming at serving the numerous smallholders and building a sustainable digital ecosystem, this paper presents a distributed agriculture service system that provides decision support to farmers by considering both social and physical information. The system is lightweight, low cost and intelligent, managing personnel, plots, crops and equipment using technologies such as wireless sensor networks, cloud computing and distributed systems architecture. Services include crop planning, production guidance, equipment control, etc. User terminals include computers, mobile applications and Applets. A case study on fruit production in a typical solar greenhouse illustrates the system's functionality. The distributed agricultural services system can well support smallholder farmers and promote sustainable agriculture.

IntroductionThe new rural pension scheme (NRPS) can improve the quality of life for rural older adult individuals; however, can it have a spillover effect on rural household human capital investments through intergenerational interactions?MethodsBased on data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 and from the perspective of intergenerational interactions, the spillover effect and influencing mechanism of the new rural insurance policy on rural household human capital investments are empirically tested.ResultsThe results show that the participation of families in the new rural insurance policy can significantly promote the human capital investments of rural families, and they are robust. Moreover, the spillover effect of this new policy is significantly different due to the gender, insurance phase, and family income of the insured. Through intergenerational interactions, the new rural insurance policy has an impact on the human capital investments of rural families from the material level of intergenerational economic support, housework and childcare for children and the nonmaterial level of old-age care cognition.DiscussionTherefore, continuing to promote the coverage of the new rural insurance policy and scientifically improving rural social security through publicity and education to promote benign intergenerational family interactions can improve the accumulation of human capital in rural areas.

In this paper, ISO 7730 as thermal comfort standard was utilized to analyze the applicability of counter flow dew point evaporative cooler in the dry and hot region—Datong, Shanxi. The output air temperature, cooling efficiency, and cooling capacity were considered, and the finite method was used to optimize the operating parameters and geometric parameters of the evaporative cooler. The effects of primary air inlet velocity, primary-to-secondary air ratio, channel spacing, and channel height on the cooling performance of the system were investigated. The results showed that with the increase of the primary wind speed, both the temperature and cooling capacity of the produced air increase. On the premise that the supply air parameters meet the requirements, the cooling capacity can be increased by increasing the primary wind speed. When working ratio is 0.4 and the channel spacing is 5 mm, the dew point evaporative cooler with the channel height greater than 0.8 m meets the thermal comfort requirement in the range of primary air inlet velocity from 1 to 7 m/s. At the same time, when the heat exchange area is fixed, the greater the length-to-width ratio of the channel, the better the cooling performance.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is nowadays an important technology to be applied in the clinical diagnosis for the detection of the heart disease. But the large storage and high-burden transmission of the ECG data is a challenge. Therefore, the compressive sensing (CS) is appropriate to deal with those signals for it can compress and sample the signal at the same time. In order to get rid of the constraints in the traditional CS methods, we propose a compressive sensing framework based on multiscale feature fusion and SE block. In the compression process we use sequential convolutional layers instead of the traditional compressive sensing using measurement matrix projection for ECG signals. In the reconstruction process, the multi-scale feature fusion method is first used to fuse multiple feature maps output from the convolution layer to better extract signal features. Subsequently, Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) block is used to further enhance the feature representation. Finally, sequence modeling of the ECG signal is performed using LSTM to obtain the reconstructed signal. The results show that the proposed method performs well on various datasets and evaluation metrics, in the case of SR = 0.4, the PRD and SNR of the experiments on the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database are 1.55% and 37.66dB, respectively. The PRD and SNR of the experiments on the Non-Invasive Fetal ECG Arrhythmia Database were 2.48% and 34.57dB, respectively, which were the lowest among all the comparison methods, indicating that the proposed method has good ECG signal processing capability.

It is still a challenge to prepare flexible electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials based on Ti3C2Tx MXene through a facial and scalable method. In this study, epoxied octamethyl-cyclotetrasiloxane (EPOSS) was self-assembled with Ti3C2Tx to construct EMI shielding composites via facial spraying coating. Because the EPOSS decreased the surface free energy of Ti3C2Tx in the acid-base component, the Ti3C2Tx/EPOSS suspension was able to be sprayed on carboxylated polybutadiene (CPB) uniformly. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were explored to demonstrate the interaction energy between EPOSS and CPB with different –COOH contents. The prepared EMI shielding composite has high abrasion resistance and good bending durability because EPOSS reinforced the interface interaction between Ti3C2Tx and CPB through covalent bonds. Based on a pre-stretching spray method, the prepared composite has high surface roughness, leading to a high specific EMI shielding effectiveness of 1800 dB cm2 g−1 at a low Ti3C2Tx loading of 8.5 wt%. Additionally, the physically protective effect of Si–O–Si cages in EPOSS provided good flame retardancy. Therefore, the proposed EPOSS-assisted Ti3C2Tx spraying strategy could prepare EMI shielding materials with high effectiveness, excellent abrasion resistance, and good flame retardancy, which has a broad prospect for the application of high-power, portable, and wearable flexible electronic devices.

Background: Immediate early response 3 (IER3) plays a vital role in many tumors. This study aims to explore the function and mechanism of IER3 in Acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Methods: The expression of IER3 in AML was performed by bioinformatics analysis. CCK-8 proliferation assay, flow cytometry cycle assay, clone formation assay, and tumorigenic ability were used to investigate the effect of IER3 on AML cells. Unbiased label-free quantitative proteomics and label-free quantitative phosphoproteomics analysis were performed. The regulatory relationship between SATB1(Special AT-rich sequence binding protein 1) and IER3 was investigated by Real time-PCR, Western blot, Chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP), and PCR. Results: The result indicated that the prognosis of the high IER3 expression group was significantly worse than that of the low expression group. CCK-8 assay showed that IER3 enhanced the proliferation ability. Cell cycle analysis showed IER3 could promote HL60 cells to enter the S phase of DNA synthesis from the quiescent phase. IER3 could stimulate HEL cells to enter mitosis. Clone-formation experiments suggested that IER3 enhanced clonogenic ability.IER3 promoted the tumorigenesis of AML. Further experimental investigation revealed that IER3 promoted autophagy and induced the occurrence and development of AML by negatively regulating the phosphorylation activation of AKT/mTOR pathway. SATB1 was found to bind to the promoter region of IER3 gene and negatively regulate its transcription. Conclusion: IER3 could promote the development of AML and induce autophagy of AML cells by negatively regulating the phosphorylation and activation of AKT/mTOR. By the way, SATB1 may negatively target regulates IER3 transcription.

Lipase-catalyzed stereoselective resolution of cis-(±)-dimethyl 1-acetylpiperidine-2,3-dicarboxylate (cis-(±)-1) is an attractive route for the synthesis of (S,S)-2,8-diazobicyclo[4.3.0]nonane, an important chiral intermediate of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic, moxifloxacin. In our previous study, a lipase from Sporisorium reilianum (SRL) was identified to possess excellent thermostability and pH stability. However, the low enzymatic activity of the SRL is a challenge that must be addressed. A rational design was initially employed for SRL tailoring according to the engineered Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB), resulting in a beneficial variant called SRL-I194N/V195L. Subsequently, two key amino acid residues in loop 6, L145 and L154, which might modulate the lid conformation between open and closed, were identified. A tetra-site variant, SRL-I194N/V195L/L145V/L154G (V13), with a significantly enhanced activity of 87.8 U∙mg−1 was obtained; this value was 2195-fold higher than that of wild-type SRL. Variant V13 was used to prepare optically pure (2S,3R)-dimethyl 1-acetylpiperidine-2,3-dicarboxylate ((2S,3R)-1), resolving 1 mol∙L−1 cis-(±)-1 with a conversion of 49.9% in 2 h and absolute stereoselectivity (E > 200). Excellent stability with a half-life of 92.5 h was also observed at 50 °C. Overall, the study findings reveal a lipase with high activity toward cis-(±)-1 at an industrial level and may offer a general strategy for enhancing the enzyme activity of other lipases and other classes of enzymes with a lid moiety.

Abstract Background Both sleep quality and quantity are essential for normal brain development throughout childhood; however, the association between preterm birth and sleep problems in preschoolers is not yet clear, and the effects of gestational age across the full range from preterm to post-term have not been examined. Our study investigated the sleep outcomes of children born at very-preterm (41 weeks). Methods A national retrospective cohort study was conducted with 114,311 children aged 3–5 years old in China. Children’s daily sleep hours and pediatric sleep disorders defined by the Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) were reported by parents. Linear regressions and logistic regression models were applied to examine gestational age at birth with the sleep outcomes of children. As the power source of new energy vehicles, the impact of battery performance should be considered. The magnetic field is generated by the change of the moving charge or the electric field. The magnetic field could magnetize the battery, and many small magnetic dipoles appear. Therefore, an experimental method of charge and discharge performance test and internal resistance test imposing magnetic field effect was conducted. Then the effect of the magnetic field effect on the charge–discharge performance and internal resistance of widely used 18650 lithium-ion battery was studied. The results showed that the trends of terminal voltage during charge and discharge process with and without magnetic field are basically the same. And the charge–discharge performance with imposing the magnetic field is much better. The discharge capacity, charge capacity, discharge energy and charge energy increase obviously while the magnetic induction intensity increases. This study can effectively help to solve the problem of short range of new energy vehicles.

Abstract Background As China pursues better social equality and improvement in public services (healthcare), public satisfaction has been considered as a key performance indicator. There is a great need to better understand the disparities and inequalities in the public satisfaction with its healthcare system. Methods Based on Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) 2015 ( a set of nationally representative survey data, the most recent wave containing information about public satisfaction with the healthcare system), this study utilizes the quantile regression method to analyze how the public satisfaction at high or low quantile of the score distribution varies according to the socio-economic status and healthcare system performance indicators, especially in rural areas. Introduction: As an exclusive group resulting from land requisition and demolition during the process of urbanization, the education of children belonging to land-loss farming families has received worldwide attention. However, few studies have explored the mechanisms and effects of land loss on adolescents’ academic performance.Method: Using 5,133 family samples in 2014 and 3,810 family samples in 2018 from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), this study employed the PSM-DID and KHB models to explore the impact of land loss on the academic performance of rural adolescents.Results: The findings indicate that compared to non-land-loss families, the academic performances of adolescents in the land-loss families were lower. Additionally, land-loss families have a lower awareness of educational value. This verifies the logical mechanism of “land loss→ family education cognition→ family human capital investment→ adolescents’ academic performance.” Gender differences exist in the negative effects of land loss on adolescents’ academic performance; land loss has a greater impact on boys.Discussion: The government should strengthen the training system for land-loss farmers, improve the social security system and state of female-led families, and focus on boys affected by land loss.

The management of global food security is one of the major issues of concern to the international community today. Ensuring the stability of food sources and preventing crop pests and diseases are crucial in maintaining social stability and promoting economic development. In modern agriculture, computer vision has emerged as a tool to aid in pest and disease prevention. For instance, when calculating the overall fruit yield of fruit trees and identifying and categorising pests and diseases, traditional neural networks tend to preserve duplicate data during image prediction. Traditional neural networks store unnecessary information when predicting images, leading to more classification calculations and thus higher computing costs. By utilising the concept of deep compressed perception, classification, and other operations can be carried out on compressed data. In this paper, combining compressed sensing theory and traditional neural network techniques, a novel deep compressed sensing network model called CSLSNet is proposed. The model utilizes a parallel convolution and residual structure comprising of convolution, the LR module, and the LSR module. The model directly categorizes images in the compressed domain, leading to decreased computation and a reduction in the number of model parameters. By comparing experiments using different SR (sampling rates) and traditional image compression methods alongside existing network models, this paper demonstrates that our model achieves higher classification accuracy under the same experimental conditions. Also, in fewer training cycles, the loss trend of the proposed model rapidly converges, and the loss curve becomes smoother. The results show that, at a sampling rate of 0.5, our model, CSLSNet, achieves an accuracy of 90.08%. In contrast, other networks involved in the comparison, such as CSBNet and AlexNet, achieve only 84.81% and 86.5%, respectively.

IntroductionExcessive screen exposure (ESE) is a growing global public health concern. This study aims to investigate the potential association between ESE and suspected developmental coordination disorder (DCD) in Chinese pre-schoolers, with or without siblings.MethodA retrospective cohort study was conducted, involving 126,433 children from 551 cities in China. The Little Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire (LDCDQ) was employed to evaluate motor impairment in children, while parents provided information on their children’s screen time in the past year. A mixed and multi-level logistic regression model was used to analyze the associations of all screen exposure measurements from the past year with LDCDQ scores and the risk of suspected DCD.ResultsThe prevalence of excessive screen exposure was 67.6% (>1 h per day) and 28.9% (>2 h per day) in Chinese pre-schoolers. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a group of syndromes characterized by irreversible vascular remodeling and persistent elevation of pulmonary vascular resistance and pressure, leading to ultimately right heart failure and even death. Current therapeutic strategies mainly focus on symptoms alleviation by stimulating pulmonary vessel dilation. Unfortunately, the mechanism and interventional management of vascular remodeling are still yet unrevealed. Hypoxia plays a central role in the pathogenesis of PH and numerous studies have shown the relationship between PH and hypoxia-inducible factors family. EPAS1, known as hypoxia-inducible factor-2 alpha (HIF-2α), functions as a transcription factor participating in various cellular pathways. However, the detailed mechanism of EPAS1 has not been fully and systematically described. This article exhibited a comprehensive summary of EPAS1 including the molecular structure, biological function and regulatory network in PH and other relevant cardiovascular diseases, and furthermore, provided theoretical reference for the potential novel target for future PH intervention.

Wearable devices are often used to diagnose arrhythmia, but the electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring process generates a large amount of data, which will affect the detection speed and accuracy. In order to solve this problem, many studies have applied deep compressed sensing (DCS) technology to ECG monitoring, which can under-sampling and reconstruct ECG signals, greatly optimizing the diagnosis process, but the reconstruction process is complex and expensive. In this paper, we propose an improved classification scheme for deep compressed sensing models. The framework is comprised of four modules: pre-processing; compression; and classification. Firstly, the normalized ECG signals are compressed adaptively in the three convolutional layers, and then the compressed data is directly put into the classification network to obtain the results of four kinds of ECG signals. We conducted our experiments on the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database and Ali Cloud Tianchi ECG signal Database to validate the robustness of our model, adopting Accuracy, Precision, Sensitivity and F1-score as the evaluation metrics. When the compression ratio (CR) is 0.2, our model has 98.16% accuracy, 98.28% average accuracy, 98.09% Sensitivity and 98.06% F1-score, all of which are better than other models.

With the increasing demands for environmental friendliness, bio-based additives in rubber materials have attracted extensive research attention from the academy and industry. However, the low molecular weight and high polarity are detrimental to mixing compatibility with rubber materials. In this work, we prepare a phenol-functionalized 1,2-PB (1,2-PB-g-CA) by grafting bio-based cardanol onto 1,2-polybutadiene rubber (1,2-PB) based on the olefin metathesis. The 1,2-PB-g-CA demonstrate a controlled number average molecular weight from 7 × 103 to 4 × 104 and tuned functionality from 0% to 20%. The open reaction system exhibited a higher functionality due to the removal of small molecules. The 1,2-PB-g-CA was used as a plasticizer for silica filled styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). The enhanced interfacial interaction between phenolic hydroxyl groups of cardanol and the silanol groups of silica significantly increased the compatibility of silica and rubber matrix. Compared with the common paraffinic oil, the obtained SBR/silica compounds were afforded low rolling resistance, high wet grip, and low heat build-up. Moreover, the 1,2-PB-g-CA showed better anti-migration properties. Therefore, our preparation method of bio-based modified liquid rubber has broad application prospects in high-performance “green tire.”

Available evidence suggest that exposure to PM2.5 during pregnancy is associated with reduced cognitive function in offspring. This study aimed to investigate the effects of maternal exposure to PM2.5 on offspring cognitive function and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. In this work, pregnant C57BL/6 female mice were exposed to concentrated ambient PM2.5 or filtered air from day 0.5 (=vaginal plug) to day 15.5 in the Shanghai Meteorological and Environmental Animal Exposure System, and offspring cerebellar tissues were collected on embryonic day 15.5, as well as postnatal days 0, 10 and 42. The mean PM2.5 concentrations exposed to the pregnant mice were 73.06 ± 4.90 μg/m3 and 11.15 ± 2.71 μg/m3 in the concentrated ambient PM2.5 and filtered air chambers, respectively. Maternal concentrated PM2.5 exposure was negatively correlated with offspring spatial memory significantly as assessed by the Morris water maze. Compared with the filtered air group, PM2.5-exposed offspring mice had reduced cerebellar microglia. Both RNA and protein levels of IL-8 and TNF-α were elevated in the concentrated ambient PM2.5 group. PM2.5 exposure increased the level of 8-OHG in miRNA of microglia and Purkinje cells in 6-week-old offspring. The level of prostaglandin F2α (8-iso-PGF2Aα) in the cerebellum was increased at different growing stages of offspring after gestational exposure of PM2.5. These results suggested that maternal air pollution exposure might cause inflammatory damage and oxidative stress to the cerebellum, contributing to reduced cognitive performance in mice offspring.

Although fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is a neurotoxicant, little is known about whether early-life PM2.5 exposure is associated with an increased risk of developmental coordination disorder (DCD). We conducted a cohort study of 109 731 children aged 3–5 years from 551 county-level cities in China between April 2018 and December 2019. Residential PM2.5 exposure was estimated using a hybrid satellite-based exposure model. Children’s motor performance was assessed using the Little DCD Questionnaire (LDCDQ). Linear mixed-effect models and generalized linear mixed models with a binomial distribution were used to examine the associations of PM2.5 exposure with LDCDQ scores and risk of DCD, respectively. Both prenatal and postnatal exposure to a higher level of PM2.5 was significantly associated with reduced total LDCDQ score, and the impacts were evident on subscales of control during movement and general coordination function but not fine motor function. For example, an interquartile range increase in PM2.5 exposure in ages 0–3 was associated with a 0.19 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.05, 0.33) decrement in the total score. Additionally, higher PM2.5 exposure was associated with increased risk of DCD, and the adjusted odds ratios were 1.06 (95% CI: 1.01, 1.10) and 1.06 (95% CI: 1.01, 1.13) for each interquartile range increase in PM2.5 exposure during the first trimester and the first 3 years, respectively. Children who were from rural areas, had neonatal intensive care unit admission, or were exclusively breastfed for less than 6 months appeared to be more susceptible to PM2.5 exposure than their counterparts. Our findings provide robust evidence that early-life PM2.5 exposure contributes to an elevated risk of DCD.

Abstract Plastic litter is a growing environmental problem. Recently, microplastics and nanoplastics, produced during breakdown processes in nature, have been in focus. Although there is a growing knowledge concerning microplastic, little is still known about the effect of nanoplastics. We have showed that mechanical breakdown of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), followed by filtration through 0.8 µm filters, produces material toxic to the freshwater zooplankton Daphnia magna and affected the reproduction in life-time tests. However, further size fractionation and purification reveals that the nanoplastics fraction is non-toxic at these concentrations, whereas the fraction with smaller sizes, below ~ 3 nm, is toxic. The HDPE nanoplastics are highly oxidized and with an average diameter of 110 nm. We conclude that mechanical breakdown of HDPE may cause environmental problems, but that the fraction of leached additives and short chain HDPE are more problematic than HDPE nanoplastics.

Abstract Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused significant psychological distress globally. Our study assessed the prevalence of psychological distress and associated factors during COVID-19 pandemic among kidney transplant recipients and kidney donors. Methods A cross-sectional survey of 497 participants (325 recipients and 172 donors) was conducted from 1st May to 30th June 2020 in Singapore. The survey questionnaire assessed knowledge levels of COVID-19, socio-demographic data, health status, psychosocial impact of COVID-19, and precautionary behaviors during the pandemic. Psychological distress was defined as having anxiety, depression, or stress measured by the validated Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21. Linear regression analyses were used to assess factors associated with higher psychological distress. Results The prevalence of psychological distress was 14.3% (95% confidence interval: 11.5–17.6%) in the overall population; it was 12.8% (9.79–16.6%) in recipients and 13.4% (9.08–19.6%) in donors with no significant difference (P = 0.67). Younger age (21–49 vs. ≥50 years), unmarried status, non-Singapore citizen, worse health conditions, and worrying about physical and mental health were associated with higher psychological distress. Malays (versus Chinese), taking precautionary measures (hand sanitization), and receiving enough information about COVID-19 were associated with lower psychological distress. No interactions were observed between recipients and donors. Conclusions At least one in ten recipients and donors suffer from psychological distress during COVID-19 pandemic. Focused health education to younger adults, unmarried individuals, non-Singapore citizens, and those with poor health status could potentially prevent psychological distress in recipients and donors.

Abstract Background Melatonin played an essential role in numerous vital life processes of animals and captured the interests of plant biologists because of its potent role in plants as well. As far as its possible contribution to photoperiodic processes, melatonin is believed to act as a growth regulator and a direct free radical scavenger/indirect antioxidant. The objective of this study to identify a precise melatonin concentration for a particular application method to improve plant growth requires identification and clarification. Methods This work establishes unique findings by optimizing melatonin concentration in alleviating the detrimental effects of drought stress in maize. Maize plants were subjected to drought stress (40–45% FC) after treatments of melatonin soil drenching at different concentrations (50, 100, and 150 µM) to consider the changes of growth attribute, chlorophyll contents, photosynthetic rate, relative water content (RWC), chloroplast ultrastructure, endogenous hormonal mechanism, and grain yield. Results Our results showed that the application of melatonin treatments remarkably improved the plant growth attributes, chlorophyll contents, photosynthetic rate, RWC, hormonal mechanism, and grain yield plant−1 under drought conditions at a variable rate. Conclusion Our current findings hereby confirmed the mitigating potential of melatonin application 100 µM for drought stress by maintaining plant growth, hormone content, and grain yield of maize. We conclude that the application of melatonin to maize is effective in reducing drought stress tolerance. Graphical Abstract

IntroductionThe change in Chinese fertility policy brings new challenges and considerations for children’s health outcomes; however, very little is known about the interaction between siblings, family socioeconomic status (SES), and neurodevelopment in the Chinese preschool-age population. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a new explanatory pathway from sibling effect to early childhood development and explored the mediation effect of family SES in the pathway.MethodsFrom April 2018 to December 2019, we conducted a national retrospective cohort study in 551 cities in China, and a total of 115,915 preschool-aged children were selected for the final analysis. Children’s neurodevelopment, including Communication, Gross motor, Fine motor, Problem-solving, and Personal-social, was assessed with the Ages & Stages Questionnaires, Third Edition (ASQ-3). Hypothesis tests and multilevel regression models were used to assess the associations and their strength between sibling effect and neurodevelopmental delay. Pathway analysis was used to verify the mediation effect of SES.ResultsThe results showed that there were significant risk effects of a sibling on preschoolers’ overall neurodevelopment including communication, gross motor, fine motor, and problem-solving delay. The adjustment of family SES, however, brought a reversal of this association. High-damping rubber materials are of crucial significance for realizing high-performance green tire due to their contributions in noise and vibration reduction, auto-braking, and service life. However, the polarity difference and mismatched surface energy significantly reduce the interfacial interaction and compatibility between non-polar tread rubber materials and polar polymers. Herein, we fabricated a multi-functionalization high vinyl polybutadiene rubber (MFHVBR)/ethylene-vinyl acetate rubber (EVM) blend by simple mechanical blending. The incorporation of polar functional groups could increase the surface energy of MFHVBR, which was beneficial for regulating the interfacial compatibility and van der Waals interaction between non-polar rubber matrix and polar polymer matrix. A quantitative correspondence between van der Waals interaction and damping properties was determined. The optimized MFHVBR/EVM blends showed ultrahigh damping properties with an effective damping temperature range of −12.4–62.6 °C, which totally covered the service temperature of tires. The effective damping temperature range width of 75 °C was among the highest value of reported high-damping rubber materials. Meanwhile, the vulcanization efficiencies and physical mechanical properties were obviously improved. Collectively, the developed strategy herein and the proposed surface energy-performance relationship suggest a feasible pathway toward low-cost and high-performance green tire tread rubber materials.

Plants exhibit plasticity in response to various external conditions, characterized by changes in physiological and morphological features. Although being non-negligible, compared to the other environmental factors, the effect of wind on plant growth is less extensively studied, either experimentally or computationally. This study aims to propose a modeling approach that can simulate the impact of wind on plant growth, which brings a biomechanical feedback to growth and biomass distribution into a functional–structural plant model (FSPM). Tree reaction to the wind is simulated based on the hypothesis that plants tend to fit in the environment best. This is interpreted as an optimization problem of finding the best growth-regulation sink parameter giving the maximal plant fitness (usually seed weight, but expressed as plant biomass and size). To test this hypothesis in silico, a functional–structural plant model, which simulates both the primary and secondary growth of stems, is coupled with a biomechanical model which computes forces, moments of forces, and breakage location in stems caused by both wind and self-weight increment during plant growth. The Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) is adopted to maximize the multi-objective function (stem biomass and tree height) by determining the key parameter value controlling the biomass allocation to the secondary growth. The digital trees show considerable phenotypic plasticity under different wind speeds, whose behavior, as an emergent property, is in accordance with experimental results from works of literature: the height and leaf area of individual trees decreased with wind speed, and the diameter at the breast height (DBH) increased at low-speed wind but declined at higher-speed wind. Stronger wind results in a smaller tree. Such response of trees to the wind is realistically simulated, giving a deeper understanding of tree behavior. The result shows that the challenging task of modeling plant plasticity may be solved by optimizing the plant fitness function. Adding a biomechanical model enriches FSPMs and opens a wider application of plant models.

Prenatal exposure to second-hand smoke (SHS) is associated with increased neurodevelopmental problems in children, however, its impact on the risk of developmental coordination disorder (DCD) in preschoolers have not been studied thoroughly. Herein, we probed this association based on a nationwide retrospective cohort study of 149,005 preschoolers in China. We divided the objects into the prenatal SHS-exposed group or the no prenatal smoke exposed group (NS-exposed group). Preschoolers were assessed for motor proficiency by the Chinese version of Little Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire (LDCDQ). Multivariable logistic regression was used to evaluate the associations. The prevalence of prenatal SHS exposure was 23.89%. Generally, the prevalence of suspected DCD was significantly higher in prenatal SHS-exposed group (16.38% VS. 14.19%, P < 0.001). With the increase of age, the mean total scores of LDCDQ of both boys and girls increased gradually; and the prevalence of suspected DCD in girls was higher than that in boys in the same age group. After adjusting for covariates, prenatal SHS exposure had the negative association with the total score of LDCDQ and increased the risk of suspected DCD. Our results suggest a need for interventions designed to reduce maternal SHS exposure during pregnancy, early screen for DCD and increase targeted movement and coordination skill training for vulnerable children.

BackgroundPrevious studies have confirmed the predicted value of serum glycated albumin (GA) in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. However, the relationship between GA and the development of in-stent restenosis (ISR) after drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation has not been verified in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).Materials and methodsIn this study, 797 patients diagnosed with ACS who underwent re-coronary angiography more than 6 months after the first successful DES-based percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were eventually included. Patients were categorized into two groups based on the median GA levels of 14.94%. Moreover, multivariate logistic regression analysis models and the net reclassification improvement and integrated differentiation improvement risk models were constructed to assess the relationship between the GA and DES-ISR in patients with ACS.ResultsThe GA was significantly associated with an increased risk of DES-ISR, upon adjusting for confounding factors (as nominal variate: OR 1.868, 95% CI 1.191–2.932, P = 0.007; as continuous variate: OR 1.109, 95% CI 1.040–1.183, P = 0.002). The addition of GA to a baseline risk model had an incremental effect on the predictive value for DES-ISR (AUC: GA vs. baseline model, 0.714 vs. 0.692, comparison P = 0.017; category-free net reclassification improvement (NRI) 0.080, P = 0.035; integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) 0.023, P < 0.001).ConclusionGA level was significantly associated with a high risk of DES-ISR in patients with ACS treated with PCI. Moreover, the addition of the GA to a baseline risk model has an incremental effect on the predictive potential for DES-ISR.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disease characterized by pulmonary vascular remodeling. The development of PAH involves N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification. However, the functional role of m6A regulators in PAH and the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain unknown so far.Methods: Microarray data (GSE149713) for monocrotaline induced PAH (MCT-PAH) rat models were downloaded and screened for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and m6A regulators. Next, we screened for differentially expressed m6A regulators in endothelial cells (ECs), smooth muscle cells (SMCs), fibroblasts, interstitial macrophages, NK cells, B cells, T cells, regulatory T cells (Tregs) using scRNA sequencing data. The target DEGs of m6A regulators in ECs, SMCs, fibroblasts, and Tregs were functionally annotated using the Gene Ontology (GO) functional analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis. In addition, the cellular interaction analysis was performed to reveal the receptor—ligand pairs regulated by m6A regulators. Pseudo-time trajectory analyses were performed and a ceRNA network of lncRNAs-miRNAs-mRNAs was constructed in SMCs. Furthermore, the RNA transcriptome sequencing data for the SMCs isolated from idiopathic PAH (IPAH) patients (GSE144274) were validated for differentially expressed m6A regulators. Moreover, the HNRNPA2B1 levels in the lung samples from PAH patients and MCT-PAH were determined using immunohistochemistry.Results: The m6A regulators were observed to be dysregulated in PAH. HNRNPA2B1expression level was increased in the PASMCs of scRNAs and IPAH patients. The target DEGs of HNRNPA2B1 were enriched in the regulation of muscle cell differentiation and vasculature development in PASMCs. The HNRNPA2B1 expression levels determined were consistent with the proliferation-related and collagen synthesis-related gene COL4A1. Moreover, the predicted transcription factors (TFs) foxd2/3 and NFκB could be involved in the regulation of HNRNPA2B1. HNRNPA2B1 might be regulating SMCs proliferation and phenotypic transition via rno-miR-330–3p/TGFβR3 and rno-miR-125a-3p/slc39a1. In addition, HNRNPA2B1 was observed to be highly expressed in the lung samples from MCT-PAH rat models and patients with PAH.Conclusion: In summary, the present study identified certain key functional m6A regulators that are involved in pulmonary vascular remodeling. The investigation of m6A patterns might be promising and provide biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of PAH in the future.

Rubber-based ionomers have attracted extensive research interest from academy and industry attributing to their distinct physical mechanical properties. However, currently reported approaches to performing polar modification on common tire rubber (such as natural rubber and butadiene rubber) typically demonstrate high gel fraction or low molecular weight. Herein, we prepared a gel-free rubber-based ionomer by the first epoxidation to elastomeric polymers and subsequent olefin metathesis reaction, which showed no degradation of molecular weight. Meanwhile, to investigate the reaction mechanism of epoxidation and olefin metathesis, high vinyl polybutadiene rubber (HVBR) with multi-site reactive units was used as the matrix. Experimental results showed that the incorporation of epoxy groups could effectively reduce the degradation of HVBR matrix caused by the olefin metathesis. The formation of multiple ion pair and ion cluster structures could significantly enhance the mechanical strength and damping properties of HVBR-based ionomers. And the dynamic measurements indicated that the increased skidding resistance and reduced rolling resistance of HVBR-based ionomers were also realized. It was acknowledged as a considerable challenge to simultaneously enhance these properties. The strategy developed here suggests a feasible pathway toward high-performance “green” tires with low noise, superior comfort and excellent auto-braking performance.

Highly time-resolved data for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can now be monitored. Source analyses of such high time-resolved concentrations provides key information for controlling VOC emissions. This work reviewed the literature on VOCs source analyses published from 2015 to 2021, and assesses the state-of-the-art and the existing issues with these studies. Gas chromatography system and direct-inlet mass spectrometry are the main monitoring tools. Quality control (QC) of the monitoring process is critical prior to analysis. QC includes inspection and replacement of instrument consumables, calibration curve corrections, and reviewing the data. Approximately 54% published papers lacked details on the quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness of QC measures. Among the reviewed works, the number of monitored species varied from 5 to 119, and fraction of papers with more than 90 monitored species increased yearly. US EPA PMF v5.0 was the most commonly used (∼86%) for VOC source analyses. However, conventional source apportionment directly uses the measured VOCs and may be problematic given the impacts of dispersion and photochemical losses, uncertainty setting of VOCs data, factor resolution, and factor identification. Excluding species with high-reactivity or estimation of corrected concentrations were often applied to reduce the influence of photochemical reactions on the results. However, most reports did not specify the selection criteria or the specific error fraction values in the uncertainty estimation. Model diagnostic indexes were used in 99% of the reports for PMF analysis to determine the factor resolution. Due to lack of known local source profiles, factor identification was mainly achieved using marker species and characteristic species ratios. However, multiple sources had high-collinearity and the same species were often used to identify different sources. Vehicle emissions and fuel evaporation were the primary contributors to VOCs around the world. Contribution of coal combustion in China was substantially higher than in other countries.

Developmental coordination disorder (DCD) is a developmental disorder characterized by impaired motor coordination, often co-occurring with attention deficit disorder, autism spectrum disorders, and other psychological and behavioural conditions. The aetiology of DCD is believed to involve brain changes and environmental factors, with genetics also playing a role in its pathogenesis. Recent research has identified several candidate genes and genetic factors associated with motor impairment, including deletions, copy number variations, single nucleotide polymorphisms, and epigenetic modifications. This review provides an overview of the current knowledge in genetic research on DCD, highlighting the importance of continued research into the underlying genetic mechanisms. While evidence suggests a genetic contribution to DCD, the evidence is still in its early stages, and much of the current evidence is based on studies of co-occurring conditions. Further research to better understand the genetic basis of DCD could have important implications for diagnosis, treatment, and our understanding of the condition’s aetiology.

BackgroundSuccessful self-feeding reflects the readiness of early motor development and environmental impacts, and the onset of self-feeding as a developmental milestone might be a predictor of subsequent motor development in children. In this study, we explored the association between the onset of self-feeding and childhood risk of Developmental Coordination Disorder in children from one-child and two-child families.MethodsWe conducted a data-linkage prospective cohort study from 38 kindergartens in 6 cities in China. A total of 11,727 preschoolers aged 3–6 years old were included in the final analysis and were assessed with the Movement Assessment Battery for Children-second edition (MABC-2) Test. The information on early self-feeding onset was obtained from parents. The mixed and multi-level logistic models utilizing a random intercept were used to investigate the associations between the onset time of self-feeding and subsequent motor performance.ResultsThe results showed that, compared with those beginning self-feeding at or younger than 12 months of age, children starting self-feeding at 13–24, 25–36, and later than 36 months, showed a decrease in their total MABC-2 scores of 2.181, 3.026, and 3.874, respectively; and had an increased risk of suspected DCD by 36.0, 101.6, 102.6%, respectively; they also had 30.2, 46.6, 71.2% increased prevalence of at risk of suspected DCD, when adjusting for both child and family characteristics (each p < 0.05). Significant associations were observed in fine motor, gross motor, and balance subtests (each p < 0.05) in groups with a delayed onset of self-feeding. However, the strength of the associations was mitigated in the fine motor and balance subtests in children with a sibling.ConclusionThe delayed onset time of self-feeding acts as an early behavioral marker for later childhood motor impairment. Moreover, children with a sibling may benefit from additional interaction and their motor developmental pattern may be affected by the presence of a sibling.

BackgroundThe association between preterm birth and neurodevelopmental delays have been well examined, however, reliable estimates for the full range of gestational age (GA) are limited, and few studies explored the impact of post-term birth on child development.ObjectiveThis study aimed to examine the long-term neuropsychological outcomes of children born in a full range of GA with a national representative sample in China.MethodsIn this retrospective population-based cohort study, a total of 137,530 preschoolers aged 3–5 years old (65,295/47.5% females and 72,235/52.5% males) were included in the final analysis. The Ages and Stages Questionnaires-Third Edition (ASQ-3) was completed by parents to evaluate children's neurodevelopment. The associations between GA and neurodevelopment were analyzed by a generalized additive mixed model with thin plate regression splines. Logistic regression was also conducted to examine the differences in children's development with different GAs.ResultsThere was a non-linear relationship between GA and children's neurodevelopmental outcomes with the highest scores at 40 weeks gestational age. The adjusted risks of GAs (very and moderately preterm, late-preterm, early-term, and post-term groups) on suspected developmental delays were observed in communication (OR were 1.83, 1.28, 1.13, and 1.21 respectively, each p < 0.05), gross motor skill (OR were 1.67, 1.38, 1.10, and 1.05 respectively, each p < 0.05), and personal social behavior (OR were 1.01, 1.36, 1.12, and 1.18 respectively, each p < 0.05). The adjusted OR of very and moderately preterm, late-preterm, and early-term were observed in fine motor skills (OR were 1.53, 1.22, and 1.09 respectively, each p < 0.05) and problem-solving (OR were 1.33, 1.12, and 1.06 respectively, each p < 0.05).ConclusionGAs is a risk factor for neurodevelopmental delays in preschoolers after controlling for a wide range of covariates, and 40–41 weeks may be the ideal delivery GA for optimal neurodevelopmental outcomes. Close observation and monitoring should be considered for early- and post-term born children as well as pre-term children.

Abstract Background China has one of the highest caesarean section (C-Section) rates in the world. In recent years, China has been experiencing a massive flow of migration due to rapid urbanization. In this study, we aimed to differentiate the rates of C-Section between migrants and residents, and explore any possible factors which may moderate the association between migrant status and C-Section rates. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study in Shanghai, China. All deliveries were classified using the modified Robson Classification. The association between women’s migrant status and C-Section rates was assessed using the Poisson regression of sandwich estimation, after adjusting for possible factors. Results Of the 40,621 women included in the study, 66.9% were residents and 33.1% were internal migrants. The rate of C-Section in migrants was lower than that of residents in all subjects (39.9 and 47.7%) and in group 1 subjects (based on the Robson Classification) using a modified Robson Classification. Objective: To determine the effects of ginsenoside rg3 on the body weight of C57BL/6J obese mice and to investigate its underlying weight loss mechanisms with a focus on white fat browning-related factors. Methods: Eight-week-old C57BL/6J male mice were fed a high-fat diet for 12 successive weeks to construct the obese model. C57BL/6J male mice were fed a standard chow diet to construct normal control group. After 8 weeks of intervention with ginsenoside rg3, the food intake, body weight, body fat mass, blood sugar, and lipid profiles of the mice in each group were detected. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining was used to observe the histological morphology of the adipose tissues. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting (WB) were applied to detect the gene and protein expression levels of peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor gama (PPARγ), Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator -1alpha (PGC-1α), PR domain containing 16 (PRDM16), and uncoupling protein 1 (UCP-1). Results: Compared to normal control group mice, the body weight, food intake, body fat composition, and blood lipid levels of model group mice increased significantly. After 8 weeks of intervention with ginsenoside rg3, body weight, body fat composition, food intake, and blood lipid profiles decreased. HE staining showed that ginsenoside rg3 can improve white adipocyte hypertrophy to a certain extent. RT-PCR and WB demonstrated that ginsenoside rg3 can increase the mRNA and protein expression levels of PPARγ, PGC-1α, PRDM16, and UCP-1 in the adipose tissues of obese mice. Conclusion: The weight reduction effect of ginsenoside rg3 may be related to the promotion of white fat browning.

In practice, the outflow from a diffuser is highly non-uniform due to many reasons. However, the air outflow velocity from a diffuser is uniform in most current studies. Little research has been conducted to determine under what conditions uniform velocity can be used. Therefore, based on the non-uniformity of velocity, airflow characteristics of grille and ceiling diffusers were investigated experimentally and numerically. Two generic CFD cases (non-uniform and uniform velocity) are presented. The velocity field near the diffuser is investigated with measurements in order to determine velocity-inlet boundary conditions. The study shows that the uniform velocity-inlet boundary condition can be considered accurate only under certain conditions. For the grille diffuser, the aspect ratio affects the distribution of the outflow velocity. Using uniform velocity as the velocity-inlet boundary condition for the grille diffuser would result in at least a 14.2% error in the jet region, except when the outflow aspect ratio is 1 and the average velocity is greater than 1.83 m/s. However, when the average velocity of the ceiling diffuser is 3.64 m/s, the error of using uniform velocity as the velocity-inlet boundary condition reaches 58.3%. This study provides the basis for determining the velocity-inlet boundary conditions during numerical simulations.

Abstract Objective We aimed to describe the features of 220 nonemergency (mild or common type) COVID-19 patients from a shelter hospital, as well as evaluate the efficiency of antiviral drug, Arbidol in their disease progressions. Methods Basic clinical characteristics were described and the efficacy of Arbidol was evaluated based on gender, age, maximum body temperature of the patients. Results Basically, males had a higher risk of fever and more onset symptoms than females. Arbidol could accelerate fever recovery and viral clearance in respiratory specimens, particularly in males. Arbidol also contributed to shorter hospital stay without obvious adverse reactions. Conclusions In the retrospective COVID-19 cohort, gender was one of the important factors affecting patient's conditions. Arbidol showed several beneficial effects in these patients, especially in males. This study brought more researches enlightenment in understanding the emerging infectious disease.

The nitrogen nutrition status affects the main factors of rice yield. In traditional rice nitrogen nutrition monitoring methods, most experts enter the farmland to observe leaf color and growth and apply an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer according to the results. However, this method is labor- and time-consuming. To realize automatic rice nitrogen nutrition monitoring, we constructed the Jiangxi rice nitrogen nutrition monitoring model based on a convolution neural network (CNN) using the same region rice canopy image in different generation periods. Our CNN model was evaluated using multiple evaluation criteria (Accuracy, Recall, Precision, and F1 score). The results show that the same CNN model could distinguish the rice nitrogen nutrition status in different periods, which can completely realize the automatic discrimination of nitrogen nutrition status so as to guide the scientific nitrogen application of rice in this area. This will greatly improve the discrimination efficiency of the nitrogen nutrition status and reduce the time and labor cost. The application of the proposed method also proved that the CNN model can be applied in the discrimination of the nitrogen nutrition status. Among CNN models, GoogleNet model proposed a CNN architecture named Inception which can improve the depth of the network and extract higher-level features without changing the amount of calculation of the model. The GoogleNet model achieved the highest accuracy, 95.7%.
