Abstract Arterial thrombosis is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide with no effective bioassay for clinical prediction. As a symbolic feature of arterial thrombosis, severe stenosis in the blood vessel creates a high-shear, high-gradient flow environment that facilitates platelet aggregation towards vessel occlusion. Here, we present a thrombus profiling assay that monitors the multi-dimensional attributes of thrombi forming in such biomechanical conditions. Using this assay, we demonstrate that different receptor–ligand interactions contribute distinctively to the composition and activation status of the thrombus. Our investigation into hypertensive and older individuals reveals intensified biomechanical thrombogenesis and multi-dimensional thrombus profile abnormalities, endorsing the diagnostic potential of the assay. Furthermore, we identify the hyperactivity of GPIbα-integrin αIIbβ3 mechanosensing axis as a molecular mechanism that contributes to hypertension-associated arterial thrombosis. By studying drug-disease interactions and inter-individual variability, our work reveals a need for personalized anti-thrombotic drug selection that accommodates each patient’s pathological profile.

Abstract Background Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a rare neurological syndrome that refers to reversible subcortical vasogenic brain edema disorder in patients with acute neurological symptoms. Case presentation Whether there is a direct causal relationship between pancreatitis and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome needs further study. We here report a 39-year-old Chinese woman who was diagnosed with pancreatitis followed by vision disturbance. The patient was finally diagnosed with posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. On the basis of this rare case, we analyzed the causes of visual disturbance and proposed diagnostic ideas. Conclusions For posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, early identification and treatment of the primary disease are particularly important. Imaging and clinical characteristics in posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome are usually reversible.

Abstract High altitude exposure negatively affects human attentional function. However, no studies have explored the regulation of attentional and physiological functions from a dietary perspective. A total of 116 Han Chinese students from Tibet University who were born and raised in a plain area and had been living in Tibet for > 2 years were recruited. All participants were male migrants. A food frequency questionnaire, complete blood count, and attention network test were performed on the participants. Pearson’s correlation was applied to assess the reliability and validity of the food frequency questionnaire. Principal component analysis was utilized to extract dietary patterns. A linear mixed model was employed to account for individual differences. The results showed that the five main dietary patterns were coarse grain, alcohol, meat, protein, and snacking dietary patterns. Furthermore, individuals who adhered to the coarse grain dietary pattern and had high mean corpuscular hemoglobin showed better attentional performance. Individuals with high alcohol consumption and systemic immune-inflammation index levels exhibited worse attentional performance. These findings imply that high-altitude migrants should include more coarse grains in their daily diet and avoid excessive alcohol consumption to improve attention.

DNA has been widely employed as a building block for the construction of sophisticated nanostructures with pre-designed sizes and shapes by complementary base pairing. With outstanding programmability, addressability, and biocompatibility, DNA nanostructures have been further developed as nanocarriers for drug delivery in biomedical researches. Noticeably, DNA nanocarriers can be rationally designed for loading and delivering nucleic acid drugs based on their inherent homology. Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein (Cas9) ribonucleoprotein-based gene editing system has also been efficiently delivered by DNA nanocarriers. In this review, we will summarize the recent progress in the design of versatile DNA nanocarriers, such as rolling circle amplification (RCA)-based DNA nanostructure, branched DNA, and DNA origami, for delivery of single-guide RNA (sgRNA)/Cas9 ribonucleoprotein. Furthermore, the challenges and future opportunities of DNA nanotechnology in the delivery of gene editing system will be discussed.

Abstract Epigenetic modifications are crucial for plant development. EFD ( E xine F ormation D efect) encodes a SAM-dependent methyltransferase that is essential for the pollen wall pattern formation and male fertility in Arabidopsis. In this study, we find that the expression of DRM2, a de novo DNA methyltransferase in plants, complements for the defects in efd, suggesting its potential de novo DNA methyltransferase activity. Genetic analysis indicates that EFD functions through HB21, as the knockout of HB21 fully restores fertility in efd mutants. DNA methylation and histone modification analyses reveal that EFD represses the transcription of HB21 through epigenetic mechanisms. Additionally, we demonstrate that HB21 directly represses the expression of genes crucial for pollen formation and anther dehiscence, including CalS5, RPG1/SWEET8, CYP703A2 and NST2. Collectively, our findings unveil a double negative regulatory cascade mediated by epigenetic modifications that coordinates anther development, offering insights into the epigenetic regulation of this process.

Abstract The Ideal Plant Architecture 1 (IPA1) transcription factor promotes rice yield and immunity through phosphorylation at its amino acid residue Ser163 as a switch. Although phosphorylated IPA1 mimic, IPA1(S163D), directly targets the promoter of immune response gene WRKY45, it cannot activate its expression. Here, we identified a co-activator of IPA1(S163D), a RING-finger E3 ligase IPA1 interactor 7 (IPI7), which fine-tunes the transcriptional activity of IPA1 to timely promote plant immunity and simultaneously maintain growth for yield. IPI7 interacts with IPA1 and promotes K29-polyubiquitination of IPA1 in vitro and in vivo. However, the stability of IPA1 protein is not affected by IPI7-mediated ubiquitination. The IPI7-promoted K29-polyubiquitination of IPA1 is induced by Magnaporthe oryzae infection and required for phosphorylated IPA1 to transactivate WRKY45 expression for immune response but not for plain IPA1 to transactivate DENSE AND ERECT PANICLES 1 (DEP1) expression for panicle development. IPI7 knockout impairs IPA1-mediated immunity but not yield. Our study reveals that plants utilize non-proteolytic K29-ubiquitination as a response to pathogen infection to fine-tune IPA1 transactivation activity for promoting immunity.

Viscosity is one of the most important fundamental properties of fluids. However, accurate acquisition of viscosity for ionic liquids (ILs) remains a critical challenge. In this study, an approach integrating prior physical knowledge into the machine learning (ML) model was proposed to predict the viscosity reliably. The method was based on 16 quantum chemical descriptors determined from the first principles calculations and used as the input of the ML models to represent the size, structure, and interactions of the ILs. Three strategies based on the residuals of the COSMO-RS model were created as the output of ML, where the strategy directly using experimental data was also studied for comparison. The performance of six ML algorithms was compared in all strategies, and the CatBoost model was identified as the optimal one. The strategies employing the relative deviations were superior to that using the absolute deviation, and the relative ratio revealed the systematic prediction error of the COSMO-RS model. The CatBoost model based on the relative ratio achieved the highest prediction accuracy on the test set (R2 = 0.9999, MAE = 0.0325), reducing the average absolute relative deviation (AARD) in modeling from 52.45% to 1.54%. Features importance analysis indicated the average energy correction, solvation-free energy, and polarity moment were the key influencing the systematic deviation.

Abstract Owing to its roles in cellular signal transduction, protein phosphorylation plays critical roles in myriad cell processes. That said, detecting and quantifying protein phosphorylation has remained a challenge. We describe the use of a novel mass spectrometer (Orbitrap Astral) coupled with data-independent acquisition (DIA) to achieve rapid and deep analysis of human and mouse phosphoproteomes. With this method, we map approximately 30,000 unique human phosphorylation sites within a half-hour of data collection. The technology is benchmarked to other state-of-the-art MS platforms using both synthetic peptide standards and with EGF-stimulated HeLa cells. We apply this approach to generate a phosphoproteome multi-tissue atlas of the mouse. Altogether, we detect 81,120 unique phosphorylation sites within 12 hours of measurement. With this unique dataset, we examine the sequence, structural, and kinase specificity context of protein phosphorylation. Finally, we highlight the discovery potential of this resource with multiple examples of phosphorylation events relevant to mitochondrial and brain biology.

In order to study the factors affecting the ignition risk parameters of pulverized coal cloud, Godbert-Greenwald constant temperature furnace was used to test the minimum ignition temperature of pulverized coal cloud under different particle size, mass concentration and powder injection pressure conditions. The results show that the minimum ignition temperature increases with the increase of particle size. In the range of 0.250−0.667 kg/m3, the mass concentration of pulverized coal decreases with the increase of mass fraction, and the minimum value is 545 ℃. With the increase of dusting pressure, it changes in the shape of “V”. The degree of influence of the three factors on the minimum ignition temperature is as follows: mass fraction > powder injection pressure > coal particle size.

Abstract Background Previous deep learning methods for predicting protein binding pockets mainly employed 3D convolution, yet an abundance of convolution operations may lead the model to excessively prioritize local information, thus overlooking global information. Moreover, it is essential for us to account for the influence of diverse protein folding structural classes. Because proteins classified differently structurally exhibit varying biological functions, whereas those within the same structural class share similar functional attributes. Results We proposed LVPocket, a novel method that synergistically captures both local and global information of protein structure through the integration of Transformer encoders, which help the model achieve better performance in binding pockets prediction. And then we tailored prediction models for data of four distinct structural classes of proteins using the transfer learning. The four fine-tuned models were trained on the baseline LVPocket model which was trained on the sc-PDB dataset. LVPocket exhibits superior performance on three independent datasets compared to current state-of-the-art methods. Additionally, the fine-tuned model outperforms the baseline model in terms of performance. Scientific contribution We present a novel model structure for predicting protein binding pockets that provides a solution for relying on extensive convolutional computation while neglecting global information about protein structures. Furthermore, we tackle the impact of different protein folding structures on binding pocket prediction tasks through the application of transfer learning methods. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Because of their large surface areas, nanotubes and nanowires demonstrate exquisite mechanical coupling to their surroundings, promising advanced sensors and nanomechanical devices. However, this environmental sensitivity has resulted in several ambiguous observations of vibrational coupling across various experiments. Herein, we demonstrate a temperature-dependent Radial Breathing Mode (RBM) frequency in free-standing, electron-diffraction-assigned Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (DWNTs) that shows an unexpected and thermally reversible frequency downshift of 10 to 15%, for systems isolated in vacuum. An analysis based on a harmonic oscillator model assigns the distinctive frequency cusp, produced over 93 scans of 3 distinct DWNTs, along with the hyperbolic trajectory, to a reversible increase in damping from graphitic ribbons on the exterior surface. Strain-dependent coupling from self-tensioned, suspended DWNTs maintains the ratio of spring-to-damping frequencies, producing a stable saturation of RBM in the low-tension limit. In contrast, when the interior of DWNTs is subjected to a water-filling process, the RBM thermal trajectory is altered to that of a Langmuir isobar and elliptical trajectories, allowing measurement of the enthalpy of confined fluid phase change. These mechanisms and quantitative theory provide new insights into the environmental coupling of nanomechanical systems and the implications for devices and nanofluidic conduits.

While carbon dioxide (CO2) is a major greenhouse gas, it is also an important C1 resource. In the trend of energy conservation and emission reduction, electrocatalytic reduction has become a very promising strategy for CO2 utilization because it can convert CO2 directly to high-valued chemicals and fuels under mild conditions. In particular, the product CO and by-product H2 can be combined into syngas by an electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) in an aqueous medium. Different molar ratios of CO and H2 may be used to produce essential bulk chemicals or liquid fuels such as methanol, alkanes, and olefins through thermochemical catalysis, Fischer–Tropsch synthesis, microbial fermentation, and other techniques. This work discusses the latest strategies in controlling the molar ratio of CO/H2 and improving the yield of CO2RR-to-syngas. The challenges of electrocatalytic syngas production are analyzed from an industrial application perspective, and the possible measures to overcome them are proposed in terms of new catalyst design, electrolyte innovation, flow reactor optimization, anodic reaction coupling, and operando technique application.

Abstract Background Blood homocysteine (Hcy) level has become a sensitive indicator in predicting the development of cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown an association between individual mineral intake and blood Hcy levels. The effect of mixed minerals’ intake on blood Hcy levels is unknown. Methods Data were obtained from the baseline survey data of the Shanghai Suburban Adult Cohort and Biobank(SSACB) in 2016. A total of 38273 participants aged 20–74 years met our inclusion and exclusion criteria. Food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used to calculate the intake of 10 minerals (calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, iron, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, copper and manganese). Measuring the concentration of Hcy in the morning fasting blood sample. Traditional regression models were used to assess the relationship between individual minerals’ intake and blood Hcy levels. Three machine learning models (WQS, Qg-comp, and BKMR) were used to the relationship between mixed minerals’ intake and blood Hcy levels, distinguishing the individual effects of each mineral and determining their respective weights in the joint effect. Results Traditional regression model showed that higher intake of calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and manganese was associated with lower blood Hcy levels. Both Qg-comp and BKMR results consistently indicate that higher intake of mixed minerals is associated with lower blood Hcy levels. Calcium exhibits the highest weight in the joint effect in the WQS model. In Qg-comp, iron has the highest positive weight, while manganese has the highest negative weight. The BKMR results of the subsample after 10,000 iterations showed that except for sodium, all nine minerals had the high weights in the joint effect on the effect of blood Hcy levels. Conclusion Overall, higher mixed mineral’s intake was associated with lower blood Hcy levels, and each mineral contributed differently to the joint effect. Future studies are available to further explore the mechanisms underlying this association, and the potential impact of mixed minerals’ intake on other health indicators needs to be further investigated. These efforts will help provide additional insights to deepen our understanding of mixed minerals and their potential role in health maintenance.

As coal mining operations continue to deepen, the frequency of coal spontaneous combustion (CSC) and gas explosion disasters in high-gas mines is increasing. Understanding the distribution patterns of CSC and gas compound disaster zones in the gob during the extraction process is crucial for reducing the risks of combustion and explosion. This study focuses on the 201 working face of the Shuanglong Coal Mine, where a multi-physical field coupling model of pressure, temperature, gas seepage, and diffusion was established to investigate the evolution characteristics of compound disaster zones and propose corresponding prevention and control measures. The results demonstrate that the area with the most severe composite hazard is mainly located at the return roadway side, extending to the middle of the gob. With increased ventilation volume and advance rate, the area of the CSC and gas coupling hazard zone expands continuously. By implementing measures such as brattice cloth and nitrogen injection, the areas of spontaneous combustion and CH4 explosion zones were reduced by 53.6 % and 49.5 %, respectively, effectively controlling the extent of the compound disaster zone and eliminating the risk of gas explosions.

IntroductionLactate is a pivotal molecule with diverse functions in the metabolic reprogramming of cancer cells. Beyond its role in metabolism, lactate exerts a modulatory effect within the tumor microenvironment; it is utilized by stromal cells and has been implicated in the suppression of the immune response against the tumor.MethodsUsing in vitro assays (including flow cytometry, live-cell imaging and metabolic analyses), the impact of lactate dehydrogenase inhibitors (LDHIs) on melanoma cells were assessed. The therapeutic potential of LDHIs with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) were tested in vivo in murine models of melanoma tumors.ResultsA potent anti-proliferative effect (via both cell cycle alterations and enhanced apoptosis) of LDHIs, Oxamate (Oxa) and methyl 1-hydroxy-6-phenyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-indole-2-carboxylate (NHI-2), was found upon treatment of melanoma cell lines. Using a combination of Oxa and NHI-2, a synergistic effect to inhibit proliferation, glycolysis, and ATP production was observed. Metabolic analysis revealed significant alteration in glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation, while metabolite profiling emphasized consequential effects on lactate metabolism and induced energy depletion by LDHIs. Detection of increased RANTES and MCP-1, with Oxa and NHI-2 treatment, prompted the consideration of combining LDHIs with ICIs. In vivo studies using a murine B78 melanoma tumor model revealed a significant improvement in treatment efficacy when LDHIs were combined with ICIs.ConclusionsThese findings propose the potential of targeting lactate metabolism to enhance the efficacy of ICI treatments in patients with melanoma.

Objective To retrospectively analyze the effect of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) on the progression free survival (PFS) of advanced gastric cancer (GC) and colorectal cancer (CRC). Method We retrospectively collected all the HIPEC data of GC and CRC in the Chongqing University Cancer Hospital from August 2018 to April 2023. Data were extracted from inpatient records and outpatient examination records. The IBM SPSS statistics 23.0 software was used to analyze the data. We mainly compared the PFS of HIPEC cases with that of non-HIPEC cases (both from our center and from the literature). PFS was analyzed with the Kaplan-Meier method. Log Rank (Mantel Cox), Breslow (Generalized Wilcoxon), and Tarone-Ware were used for univariate analyses. Result A total of 342 HIPEC cases were analyzed in this study. Stage IV GC and CRC accounted for 48.5% of the total number of cases. Abdominal pain and distension (47.4%) were the most common side effects from HIPEC. Serious complications were rare (1.8%, including bleeding, perforation, obstruction, and death). The PFS and disease-free survival (DFS) of abdominal malignancy treated with HIPEC were significantly associated with the TNM stage, but not HIPEC numbers nor HIPEC drugs. In stage IV HIPEC cases, adding adjuvant chemotherapy after HIPEC resulted in better PFS. In addition, the association between peritoneal carcinomatosis index (PCI) and PFS of stage IV HIPEC cases was close to significant. Compared with the 33 stage IV (with peritoneal metastases) GC cases without HIPEC in our center from the last 15 years, the PFS of the 56 stage Ⅳ GC cases with HIPEC was not improved significantly (median PFS: 6 ± 2.92 months vs 7 ± 1.63 months for with vs without HIPEC in stage IV GC, respectively; P ≥ 0.05). Compared with the 58 stage IV (with peritoneal metastases) CRC cases without HIPEC in our center from the last 15 years, the PFS of the 86 stage IV CRC cases with HIPEC was not improved significantly either (median PFS: 7 ± 1.68 months vs 7 ± 0.62 months for with vs without HIPEC in stage IV CRC, respectively; P ≥ 0.05). When comparing our HIPEC data with the non-HIPEC data reported by other scholars for the PFS of advanced GC and CRC, the negative results were similar. Conclusion The PFS/DFS of HIPEC cases was associated with the TNM stage, but not with the HIPEC numbers or HIPEC drugs. PCI may be related to the PFS of stage IV HIPEC cases. Adding chemotherapy or targeted therapy after HIPEC may improve the PFS of stage IV cases. HIPEC did not significantly improve the PFS of stage IV GC or CRC cases in our center.

Red blood cells (RBCs) naturally trap some bacterial pathogens in the circulation and kill them by oxidative stress. Following neutralization, the bacteria are presented to antigen-presenting cells in the spleen by the RBCs. This ability of RBCs has been harnessed to develop a system where they play a crucial role in enhancing the immune response, offering a novel approach to enhance the body’s immunity. In this work, a conjugate, G-OVA, was formed by connecting β-glucan and OVA through a disulfide bond. Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) was then employed to encapsulate G-OVA, yielding G-OVA-PLGA. Finally, the nanoparticles were adsorbed onto RBCs to develop G-OVA-PLGA@RBC. The results demonstrated that the delivery of nanoparticles by RBCs enhanced the antibody response to antigens both in vitro and in vivo. The objective of this study was to investigate the increased immune activity of G-OVA-PLGA nanoparticles facilitated by RBCs transportation and to elucidate some of its underlying mechanisms. These findings are anticipated to contribute valuable insights for the development of efficient and safe immune enhancers.

Gallic acid is an important secondary metabolite in plants, with great value in medicine, food, and chemical industry. However, whether and how this widely existing natural polyphenolic compound affects the growth and development of plants themselves remains elusive. In this study, we revealed that exogenous application of gallic acid has a dual effect on the elongation of primary root in Arabidopsis. While lower concentrations of gallic acid slightly stimulate primary root growth, excessive gallic acid profoundly reduces primary root length and root meristem size in a dose-dependent manner, probably via suppressing cell division in root meristem as indicated by CYCB1;1::GUS. Moreover, as suggested by the DR5::GFP line analysis and confirmed by the LC-MS assay, auxin contents in root tips were dramatically decreased upon excessive gallic acid treatment. Additional application of IAA partially rescued the shortened primary root and root meristem upon excessive gallic acid treatment, suggesting that auxin is required for excessive gallic acid-caused root growth inhibition. Then, we further revealed that excessive gallic acid down-regulated the expression of auxin transporters PIN1, PIN2, PIN3, and PIN7, and triple mutant pin1 pin3 pin7 exhibited a reduced sensitivity to gallic acid treatment. Meanwhile, excessive gallic acid decreased the degradation of AXR3/IAA17 protein as revealed by HS::AXR3NT-GUS reporter line. Auxin signaling mutant tir1 afb2 afb3 and axr3-3 were also less sensitive to excessive gallic acid treatment in terms of primary root length and root meristem size. Taken together, these findings suggested that excessive gallic acid inhibits primary root growth by modulating auxin transport and signaling in Arabidopsis.

Abstract Purpose In this study, we retrospectively investigated the prognostic role of pre-treatment neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients (ESCC) treated with concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT). Methods We retrospectively analyzed the records of 338 patients with pathologically diagnosed esophageal squamous cell carcinoma that underwent concurrent chemo-radiotherapy from January 2013 to December 2017. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify prognostic factors for progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Abstract Background DNA methylation is an essential epigenetic modification. However, its contribution to trait changes and diversity in the domestication of perennial fruit trees remains unknown. Results Here, we investigate the variation in DNA methylation during pear domestication and improvement using whole-genome bisulfite sequencing in 41 pear accessions. Contrary to the significant decrease during rice domestication, we detect a global increase in DNA methylation during pear domestication and improvement. We find this specific increase in pear is significantly correlated with the downregulation of Demeter-like1 (DML1, encoding DNA demethylase) due to human selection. We identify a total of 5591 differentially methylated regions (DMRs). Methylation in the CG and CHG contexts undergoes co-evolution during pear domestication and improvement. DMRs have higher genetic diversity than selection sweep regions, especially in the introns. Approximately 97% of DMRs are not associated with any SNPs, and these DMRs are associated with starch and sucrose metabolism and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis. We also perform correlation analysis between DNA methylation and gene expression. We find genes close to the hypermethylated DMRs that are significantly associated with fruit ripening. We further verify the function of a hyper-DMR-associated gene, CAMTA2, and demonstrate that overexpression of CAMTA2 in tomato and pear callus inhibits fruit ripening. Conclusions Our study describes a specific pattern of DNA methylation in the domestication and improvement of a perennial pear tree and suggests that increased DNA methylation plays an essential role in the early ripening of pear fruits.

Background/Aims: At present, there are relatively few reports on the treatment consisting of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with lenvatinib, and there is no unified conclusion on the curative effect. The objective of this research was to assess the efficacy and safety of combining TACE with lenvatinib for the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). Materials and Methods: This study was a retrospective analysis of the patient’s medical records. In this study, 249 patients (uHCC) in our hospital from 2020 to 2021 were divided into 2 groups, including the TACE-alone group (198 patients received TACE alone) and the TACE-LEN group (51 patients were treated with TACE combined with lenvatinib). According to the propensity score matching method, there were TACE-LEN group (51 patients) and TACE-alone group (51 patients). With the help of surgical experts, the overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and tumor response (according to mRECIST) of the 2 groups were sorted and recorded, and then analyzed. Survival curves were established, the prognostic factors of OS and PFS were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses, and the independent prognostic factors were recorded. The adverse reactions of patients after treatment were recorded. Results: The 1-year and 2-year OS rates were 50.98% and 19.48% for the TACE-LEN group, 27.45% and 8.55% for the TACE-alone group (P = .042), respectively. The PFS of patients in the TACE-LEN group was also longer (1-year PFS rate: 25.49% vs. 11.76%, 2-year PFS rate: 19.17% vs. 5.88%; P = .0069). The disease control rate (68.63% vs. 49.10%, P = .044) of the TACE-LEN group was significantly higher. In the subgroup analysis, the OS of the TACE-LEN group was better than TACE-alone group in patients with Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage C (1-year OS rate: 44.44% vs. 17.14%, 2-year OS rate: 8.67% vs. 0%; P = .009). Factor analysis concluded that serum alkaline phosphatase and treatment protocol (TACE-LEN vs. TACE) were independent influencing factors of OS. The most common treatment-related AEs included decreased albumin (n = 28, 54.9%), hypertension (n = 23, 45.1%), elevated aspartate transaminase (n = 21, 41.2%) and elevated total bilirubin (n = 18, 35.2%) in TACE-LEN group. Conclusion: Compared with TACE monotherapy, TACE combined with lenvatinib effectively prolonged the OS time with a controllable safety profile for patients with uHCC.

Abstract Gastric cancer (GC) stage and tissue differentiation affect treatment efficacy and prognosis, highlighting the importance of understanding the risk factors that affect these parameters. Therefore, this study analyzed risk factors affecting the GC stage and differentiation and the relationships between the cancer site and the sex and age of the patient. We collected clinical data from 6961 patients with GC, including sex, age, endoscopic lesion location, and pathological differentiation. Patients were grouped based on GC stage (early or advanced), differentiation (well or poorly differentiated), and lesion site (upper stomach [cardia and fundus], middle stomach [gastric body], and lower stomach [gastric antrum]). Differences in sex, age, location, stage, and degree of differentiation were assessed based on these groupings. Accurate and efficient urban traffic flow prediction can help drivers identify road traffic conditions in real-time, consequently helping them avoid congestion and accidents to a certain extent. However, the existing methods for real-time urban traffic flow prediction focus on improving the model prediction accuracy or efficiency while ignoring the training efficiency, which results in a prediction system that lacks the scalability to integrate real-time traffic flow into the training procedure. To conduct accurate and real-time urban traffic flow prediction while considering the latest historical data and avoiding time-consuming online retraining, herein, we propose a scalable system for Predicting short-term URban traffic flow in real-time based on license Plate recognition data (PURP). First, to ensure prediction accuracy, PURP constructs the spatio-temporal contexts of traffic flow prediction from License Plate Recognition (LPR) data as effective characteristics. Subsequently, to utilize the recent data without retraining the model online, PURP uses the nonparametric method k-Nearest Neighbor (namely KNN) as the prediction framework because the KNN can efficiently identify the top-k most similar spatio-temporal contexts and make predictions based on these contexts without time-consuming model retraining online. The experimental results show that PURP retains strong prediction efficiency as the prediction period increases.

Purpose: To compare image quality and detection accuracy of renal stones between deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) and Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction-Veo (ASIR-V) reconstructed virtual non-contrast (VNC) images and true non-contrast (TNC) images in spectral CT Urography (CTU). Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on images of 70 patients who underwent abdominal-pelvic CTU in TNC phase using non-contrast scan and contrast-enhanced corticomedullary phase (CP) and excretory phase (EP) using spectral scan. The TNC scan was reconstructed using ASIR-V70 % (TNC-AR70), contrast-enhanced scans were reconstructed using AR70, DLIR medium-level (DM), and high-level (DH) to obtain CP-VNC-AR70/DM/DH and EP-VNC-AR70/DM/DH image groups, respectively. CT value, image quality and kidney stones quantification accuracy were measured and compared among groups. The subjective evaluation was independently assessed by two senior radiologists using the 5-point Likert scale for image quality and lesion visibility. Results: DH images were superior to AR70 and DM images in objective image quality evaluation. There was no statistical difference in the liver and spleen (both P > 0.05), or within 6HU in renal and fat in CT value between VNC and TNC images. EP-VNC-DH had the lowest image noise, highest SNR, and CNR, and VNC-AR70 images had better noise and SNR performance than TNC-AR70 images (all p < 0.05). EP-VNC-DH had the highest subjective image quality, and CP-VNC-DH performed the best in lesion visibility. In stone CT value and volume measurements, there was no statistical difference between VNC and TNC (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The DLIR-reconstructed VNC images in CTU provide better image quality than the ASIR-V reconstructed TNC images and similar quantification accuracy for kidney stones for potential dose savings.The study highlights that deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR)-reconstructed virtual non-contrast (VNC) images in spectral CT Urography (CTU) offer improved image quality compared to traditional true non-contrast (TNC) images, while maintaining similar accuracy in kidney stone detection, suggesting potential dose savings in clinical practice.

ObjectiveShared decision-making (SDM) is a collaborative process in which patients and healthcare providers jointly make a medical decision. This cross-sectional study aimed to identify the implementation status of shared decision-making among dermatologists engaging in medical esthetics in China and to identify factors associated with the good practice of SDM among them.MethodsFrom January to June 2023, a total of 1,287 dermatologists engaging in medical esthetics in China were recruited and completed the online interviews about their implementation of SDM based on the Shared Decision-Making Questionnaire for Doctors (SDM-Q-Doc). Logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) to explore factors associated with the higher SDM score achievement among dermatologists with medical esthetic practice.ResultsThe median value of the total SDM score was 39, and 48% (621/1278) of dermatologists with medical esthetic practice achieved at least 40 out of 45 scores. The Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area in China, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous for its large-scale, diverse, intricately structured, and brightly colored surface travertine landscapes. However, severe degradation of the Huanglong travertine formations, such as blackening and algae erosion, has occurred in recent years, necessitating monitoring and identification. We collected hyperspectral reflectance data of the travertine formations in different states and bare ground using a ground-based hyperspectral radiometer (PSR-2500) from ASD company. After conducting a correlation analysis between the hyperspectral reflectance data and the travertine formations, we identified healthy travertine formations, blackened travertine formations, travertine formations affected by algae erosion, and bare ground. The Siamese network method was employed to generate data labels, and the spectral features of the travertine formations were extracted by combining the sensitive bands with pre-processed and reduced data. The PSO-BPNN classifier was developed by optimizing the back propagation neural network (BPNN) using the particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO). To verify the effectiveness of PSO-BPNN in accurately distinguishing different states of travertine formations, we compared its performance with that of BPNN using three performance indices. Finally, the proposed method was applied to the real-world hyperspectral image data collected by the Micro-Hyperspectral imaging instrument to classify the travertine formations in different states and bare ground. The test set demonstrated good overall performance, with an average overall accuracy (OA) of 0.93, F1-score of 0.92, and Kappa coefficient of 0.97.

Abstract Aim Many people see nursing as a high‐pressure, high‐risk profession. Therefore, job burnout among nursing staff has become an important topic of study and has received widespread attention worldwide. This research intended to evaluate the frequency of and variables related with work burnout among nurses in public hospitals in China. Design Using a multistage random sample procedure, a cross‐sectional survey was carried out in the eastern, central and western areas of China. Methods The Maslach Inventory‐Human Service Survey and demographic information made up the two sections of the questionnaire. Of the 5250 questionnaires sent, 4865 were deemed legitimate, yielding an effective response rate of 92.67%. A linear regression analysis was performed to investigate the variables linked to nursing work burnout. Results Among the 4865 nurses, women accounted for 97.4% of the survey respondents, most of whom were aged 26–35 years. Results showed that the total scores of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and reduced personal accomplishment (PA) were 20.02 ± 12.04, 4.78 ± 5.54 and 34.42 ± 10.32 respectively. 50.7% of subjects obtained high or moderated scores on EE, 32.8% of subjects obtained high or moderated scores on DP and 80.4% of subjects obtained low or moderated scores on PA. Objective To analyze the situation of regular whole blood donation in Tianjin between 2013 and 2022, in order to provide data support for improving the recruitment and retention measures of regular blood donors and ensuring safe clinical blood supply. Methods From 2013 to 2022, 185 639 regular whole blood donors in Tianjin were selected as the study group and 1 015 312 other whole blood donors in the same period were selected as the control group. The demographic data, blood collection volume and blood retest screening of blood donors in the two groups were statistically analyzed. Results The number of regular blood donors and the volume of blood donated in Tianjin increased year by year from 2013 to 2022, with an average annual growth rate of 6.22% and 6.18%, respectively. From 2013 to 2021, the retention rate of regular blood donors increased first and then decreased. Abstract Reactive oxygen species (ROS) act as a group of signaling molecules in rice functioning in regulation of development and stress responses. Respiratory burst oxidase homologues (Rbohs) are key enzymes in generation of ROS. However, the role of the nine Rboh family members was not fully understood in rice multiple disease resistance and yield traits. In this study, we constructed mutants of each Rboh genes and detected their requirement in rice multiple disease resistance and yield traits. Our results revealed that mutations of five Rboh genes (RbohA, RbohB, RbohE, RbohH, and RbohI) lead to compromised rice blast disease resistance in a disease nursery and lab conditions; mutations of five Rbohs (RbohA, RbohB, RbohC, RbohE, and RbohH) result in suppressed rice sheath blight resistance in a disease nursery and lab conditions; mutations of six Rbohs (RbohA, RbohB, RbohC, RbohE, RbohH and RbohI) lead to decreased rice leaf blight resistance in a paddy yard and ROS production induced by PAMPs and pathogen. Moreover, all Rboh genes participate in the regulation of rice yield traits, for all rboh mutants display one or more compromised yield traits, such as panicle number, grain number per panicle, seed setting rate, and grain weight, resulting in reduced yield per plant except rbohb and rbohf. Our results identified the Rboh family members involved in the regulation of rice resistance against multiple pathogens that caused the most serious diseases worldwide and provide theoretical supporting for breeding application of these Rbohs to coordinate rice disease resistance and yield traits.

Objective To explore the HBV infection of initially reactive but discriminatory test non-reactive (NAT suspicious) samples of voluntary blood donors after PANTHER individual nucleic acid testing (ID-NAT) in Tianjin. Methods From January to August 2021, after routine testing and PANTHER ID-NAT, a total of 66 HBsAg-NAT reactive but discriminatory test non-reactive samples(referred to as NAT suspicious samples) were tested from 69 362 blood samples. Among which, 23 samples were selected by simple random sampling method and enriched by ultra-high speed centrifugation. HBV DNA was detected by supersensitive fluorescence quantification PCR (qPCR)and ID-NAT, and electrochemiluminescence was supplemented for two and half pairs of hepatitis B detection. Results Among 23 suspicious NAT samples, 14 were confirmed HBV DNA positive by serological and molecular biological tests, and the anti-HBc positive rate of HBV infected individuals was 92.8%. 92.8% (13/14) of the infected individuals were occult hepatitis B virus infection(OBI). A total of 10 samples were detected for viral load by qPCR, of which 5 were quantifiable, with viral load of (11~464) IU/mL and a median of 15.4 IU/mL. Conclusion 60% of the NAT suspicious samples were detected as HBV DNA positive. Anti-HBc testing can exclude most OBI undetectable by NAT, and the sensitivity of NAT should be improved to ensure the safety of blood transfusion.

Abstract Fungal pathogens typically use secreted effector proteins to suppress host immune activators to facilitate invasion. However, there is rarely evidence supporting the idea that fungal secretory proteins contribute to pathogenesis by transactivating host genes that suppress defense. We previously found that pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae induces rice Bsr-d1 to facilitate infection and hypothesized that a fungal effector mediates this induction. Here, we report that MoSPAB1 secreted by M. oryzae directly binds to the Bsr-d1 promoter to induce its expression, facilitating pathogenesis. Amino acids 103-123 of MoSPAB1 are required for its binding to the Bsr-d1 promoter. Both MoSPAB1 and rice MYBS1 compete for binding to the Bsr-d1 promoter to regulate Bsr-d1 expression. Furthermore, MoSPAB1 homologues are highly conserved among fungi. In particular, Colletotrichum fructicola CfSPAB1 and Colletotrichum sublineola CsSPAB1 activate kiwifruit AcBsr-d1 and sorghum SbBsr-d1 respectively, to facilitate pathogenesis. Taken together, our findings reveal a conserved module that may be widely utilized by fungi to enhance pathogenesis.

Abstract. Recent decades have seen the remarkable development of China in medical accessibility and quality index, and the application of a number of new advanced cardiovascular technologies benefits more patients. However, according to the Annual Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in China published in this article, which was organized and summarized by National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, there is still a huge population living with risk factors of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and the morbidity and mortality of CVD are increasing. It is estimated that there are around 330 million patients suffering from CVD currently, including 245 million of hypertension, 13 million of stroke, 45.3 million of peripheral artery disease, 11.39 million of coronary heart disease (CHD), 8.9 million of heart failure, 5 million of pulmonary heart disease, 4.87 million of atrial fibrillation, 2.5 million of rheumatic heart disease, and 2 million of congenital heart disease. Tobacco use, diet and nutrition factors, physical activity, overweight and obesity, and psychological factors are what affect cardiovascular health, while hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, metabolic syndrome, and air pollution are the risk factors for CVD. In this article, in addition to risk factors for CVD, we also report the epidemiological trends of CVD, including CHD, cerebrovascular disease, arrhythmias, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, pulmonary vascular disease and venous thromboembolism, and aortic and peripheral artery diseases, as well as the basic research and medical device development in CVD. In a word, China has entered a new stage of transforming from high-speed development focusing on scale growth to high-quality development emphasizing on strategic and key technological development to curb the trend of increasing incidence and mortality of CVD.

ObjectiveTo examine the association of lactate-to-albumin ratio (LAR) with 30-day and 90-day mortality in patients with cerebral infarction admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).MethodsIn this retrospective observational study, 1,089 patients with cerebral infarction were recruited. The concentration of blood lactate and serum albumin on the first day of ICU admission were recorded. The relationship between LAR levels and mortality was evaluated through univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, four-knot multivariate restricted cubic spline regression, and Kaplan–Meier (KM) curves.ResultsThe overall 30-day and 90-day mortality rates in the entire cohort were 27.3 and 35.8%, respectively. This study investigated whether exercise could improve the reduced HRV in an environment of high altitude. A total of 97 young, healthy male lowlanders living at 3,680 m for >1 year were recruited. They were randomized into four groups, of which three performed—low-, moderate-, and high-intensity (LI, MI, HI) aerobic exercise for 4 weeks, respectively. The remaining was the control group (CG) receiving no intervention. For HI, compared to other groups, heart rate (p = 0.002) was significantly decreased, while standard deviation of RR intervals (p < 0.001), SD2 of Poincaré plot (p = 0.046) and the number of successive RR interval pairs that differ by > 50 ms divided by total number of RR (p = 0.032), were significantly increased after intervention. For MI, significantly increase of trigonometric interpolation in NN interval (p = 0.016) was observed after exercise. Further, a decrease in systolic blood pressure (SBP) after high-intensity exercise was found significantly associated with an increase in SD2 (r = – 0.428, p = 0.042). These results indicated that there was a dose effect of different intensities of aerobic exercise on the HRV of acclimatized lowlanders. Moderate and high-intensity aerobic exercise would change the status of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and decrease the blood pressure of acclimatized lowlanders exposed to high altitude.

The availability of genome-wide transcriptomic and proteomic datasets is ever-increasing and often not used beyond initial publication. Here, we applied module-based coexpression network analysis to a comprehensive catalog of 35 mouse genome-wide liver expression datasets (encompassing more than 3800 mice) with the goal of identifying and validating unknown genes involved in cholesterol metabolism. From these 35 datasets, we identified a conserved module of genes enriched with cholesterol biosynthetic genes. Using a systematic approach across the 35 datasets, we identified three genes (Rdh11, Echdc1, and Aldoc) with no known role in cholesterol metabolism. We then performed functional validation studies and show that each gene is capable of regulating cholesterol metabolism. For the glycolytic gene, Aldoc, we demonstrate that it contributes to de novo cholesterol biosynthesis and regulates cholesterol and triglyceride levels in mice. As Aldoc is located within a genome-wide significant genome-wide association studies locus for human plasma cholesterol levels, our studies establish Aldoc as a causal gene within this locus. Through our work, we develop a framework for leveraging mouse genome-wide liver datasets for identifying and validating genes involved in cholesterol metabolism.

Summary: Background: Lung injury might take place before chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) occurs. A clearer definition of “pre-COPD” based on the effects of potential indicators on increasing risk of COPD development and a prediction model involving them are lacking. Methods: A total of 3526 Chinese residents without COPD aged 40 years or older derived from the national cross-sectional survey of COPD surveillance in 2014–2015 were followed up for a mean of 3.59 years. We examined the associations of chronic bronchitis, preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm), low peak expiratory flow (PEF), spirometric small airway dysfunction (sSAD), low maximal mid-expiratory flow (MMEF), low forced expiratory flow 50% of pulmonary volume (FEF50), and low FEF75 with subsequent COPD and constructed a prediction model with LASSO-Cox regression. Findings: 235 subjects in the cohort developed COPD during the follow-up. Subjects with PRISm, low PEF, sSAD, low MMEF, low FEF50, and low FEF75 had an increased risk of developing COPD (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] ranging from 1.57 to 3.01). Only chronic bronchitis (HR 2.84 [95% CI 1.38–5.84] and 2.94 [1.43–6.04]) and sSAD/low MMEF (HR 2.74 [2.07–3.61] and 2.38 [1.65–3.43]) showed effects independent of the other indicators and their concurrence had the strongest effect (HR 5.89 and 4.80). The prediction model including age, sex, low MMEF, low FEF50, and indoor exposure to biomass had good performance both internally and temporally. The corrected C-index was 0.77 (0.72–0.81) for discrimination in internal validation. For temporal validation, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.73 (0.63–0.83). Good calibration was indicated in plot for internal validation and by Hosmer–Lemeshow test for temporal validation. Interpretation: Individuals with concurrent chronic bronchitis and sSAD/low MMEF indicating pre-COPD optimally require more high attention from physicians. Our prediction model could serve as a multi-dimension tool to predict COPD comprehensively. Abstract Three previously undescribed compounds, cordycicadione (1), cordycicadin F (2), and 7-hydroxybassiatin (3), were isolated from the cultures of Cordyceps cicadae JXCH1, an entomopathogenic fungus. Their structures and relative configurations were elucidated primarily by NMR spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were determined by ECD calculations. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction method was adopted to determine the absolute configuration of 3. Compound 2 is a polycyclic polyketide with an unusual enol ether moiety and a spiro ring. The compounds obtained in this study were subjected to screening their inhibition against the proliferation of the human lung cancer cell line A549 and the production of nitric oxide in murine macrophages RAW264.7. Abstract Leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinases (LRR-RLKs) are well known to act in plant growth, development, and defense responses. Plant LRR-RLKs locate on cell surface to sense and initiate responsive signals to a variety of extracellular stimuli, such as microbe-associated molecular patterns (MAMPs) released from microorganisms. LRR-RLKs are also present in microbes and function in microbial growth and development, but their roles in communicating with hosts are largely unknown. A recent study published in Nature Communications uncovered that a microbial LRR-RLK, PsRLK6, is required for oospore development in the sexual reproduction of Phytophthora sojae, an oomycete pathogen that causes root and stem rot in soybean. Meanwhile, PsRLK6 is recognized as a novel type of MAMP by an unknown plant LRR receptor-like protein and triggers immune responses in soybean, tomato, and Nicotiana benthamiana. The findings reveal dual roles of a pathogen LRR-RLK in determining both life through sexual reproduction and death through triggering plant immunity.

Abstract To investigate the fluorescein angiography (FA) findings and compare the extent of retinal vascularization in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), recovered after intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) monotherapy and those regressed spontaneously. Infants with a history of ROP who underwent FA between April 2018 and November 2021 were retrospectively included. The patients were divided into two groups based on whether they had received IVR (IVR group) or had ROP that regressed spontaneously without treatment (untreated group). The differences between the two groups in zone II ROP were also compared, to equalize the subgroups as much as possible in terms of disease severity. FA findings were recorded. The extent of vascularization was measured by the ratio of the distance from the center of the disk to the border of the vascularized zone (DB) and the distance from the center of the disk to the center of the fovea (DF). The width of the persistent avascular retina (PAR) was counted by disc diameters (DD). One hundred and ten eyes of 55 infants were included in the IVR group and 76 eyes of 38 babies in the untreated group. The ratio of abnormal shape of vessels was significantly higher in the IVR group than in the untreated group (50.9% vs. 35.5%; P = 0.038), while the linear choroidal filling pattern, tortuosity of vessels over the posterior pole, dye leakage, anomalous branching of vessels, circumferential vessels, arteriovenous shunt, abnormal capillary bed, and macular abnormalities were similarly. In order to improve the quality of rice bread and reveal the effects of transglutaminase (TGase) on the quality of rice flour, rice dough and rice bread, and reveal the relationship among the indexes. The silty properties and pasting properties of TGase containing different mass fractions in rice flour, the water distribution, rheological properties and fermentation capability of rice dough, and the specific volume, gas cells and texture of bread were tested. The results showed that 0.60% TGase could improve the silty and pasting properties of rice flour, and increase the stabilization time of rice flour to 8.00±0.77 min. The peak viscosity (PV), valley viscosity (VV) and final viscosity (FV) were increased to 5801.00±30.41, 3805.67±76.14 and 5836.33±106.17 cP, respectively. Breakdown (BD) and setback (SB) of rice flour were reduced to 1990.00±128.11 and 1991.67±34.08 cP. At the same time, TGase increased the tightness of water binding, improved the rheological properties and fermentation capability of rice dough, increased S21 to 9.24%±13.07%, decreased T21 and T22 to 1.40±1.80 and 30.45±2.28 ms, and increased Hm to 8.60±0.11 mm. The porosity was increased to 50.51%±0.90%, which reduced the hardness, adhesiveness and chewiness of rice bread, improved the springiness of rice bread and improved the textural properties of rice bread. Correlation analysis showed that T23 was negatively correlated with the formation time, and Hm was positively correlated with C3, C3~C2 and VV. And BD and SB were negatively correlated, chewiness was positively correlated with C1, specific volume was positively correlated with FV and PV were positively correlated. The results showed that TGase improved the quality of rice flour, rice dough and rice bread, and there were different degrees of correlation among the improved indexes.

Abstract Epidemiological data show people with diabetes mellitus (DM) have three‐fold increase in risk of periodontitis. A vitamin D insufficiency can affect the progression of DM and periodontitis. This study evaluated the effects of different‐dose vitamin D supplementation to nonsurgical periodontal therapy for vitamin‐D‐insufficient diabetic patients coexisting with periodontitis and changes of gingival bone morphogenetic protein‐2 (BMP‐2) levels. The study included 30 vitamin‐D‐insufficient patients receiving nonsurgical treatment followed by administration of 25,000 international units (IU) vitamin D3 per week (the low‐VD group) and 30 patients receiving 50,000 UI vitamin D per week (the high‐VD group). The decreases of probing pocket depth, clinical attachment loss, bleeding index, and periodontal plaque index values of patients after the six‐month supplementation of 50,000 UI vitamin D3 per week to nonsurgical treatment were more significant than those after the six‐month supplementation of 25,000 UI vitamin D3 per week to nonsurgical treatment. It was found that 50,000 IU per week vitamin D supplementation for 6 months could lead to a better glycemic control for vitamin‐D‐insufficient diabetic patients coexisting with periodontitis after nonsurgical periodontal therapy. Increased levels of serum 25(OH) vitamin D3 and gingival BMP‐2 were found in both low‐ and high‐dose VD groups, and the high‐dose VD group exhibited higher levels than the low‐dose VD group. Vitamin D supplementation in large doses for 6 months tended to improve the treatment of periodontitis and increase gingival BMP‐2 levels in diabetic patients coexisting with periodontitis who were vitamin D deficient.

This paper introduces a current control method for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) using a disturbance sliding mode observer (DSMO) in conjunction with a linear quadratic regulator (LQR). This approach enhances control performance, streamlines the tuning of controller parameters, and offers robust optimal control that is resistant to system disturbances. The LQR controller based on state feedback is advantageous for its simplicity in parameter adjustment and achieving an optimal control effect easily under specific performance indicators. It is suitable for the optimal control of strong linear systems that can be accurately modeled. However, most practical systems are difficult to model accurately, and the time-varying system parameters and existing nonlinearity limit the engineering application of LQR. In the PMSM current control loop, there is strong nonlinear disturbance manifesting as the nonlinearity of its dynamic model. Additionally, substantial noise and variations in system parameters within actual motor circuits hinder the linear quadratic regulator from attaining optimal performance. A disturbance sliding mode observer is proposed to enhance the LQR controller, enabling superior performance in nonlinear current loop control. Simulation and actual hardware experiments were conducted to verify the performance and robustness of the control scheme proposed in this paper. Compared with the widely used PI controller in engineering and sliding mode control (SMC) specialising in disturbance rejection, it offers the advantage of straightforward parameter tuning and can swiftly achieve the robust and optimal control performance that engineers prioritize.

In the present work, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were synthesized in a one-step process by heating the hydrogen bond acceptors (HBAs) tetrabutylammonium bromide and tetrabutylphosphonium bromide, along with two hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) ethanolamine and N-methyldiethanolamine, which were mixed in certain molar ratios. This mixture was then mixed with water to form a DES + water system. The densities of the prepared DES + water systems were successfully measured using the U-tube oscillation method under atmospheric pressure over a temperature range of 293.15–363.15 K. The CO2 trapping capacity of the DES + water systems was investigated using the isovolumetric saturation technique at pressures ranging from 0.1 MPa to 1 MPa and temperatures ranging from 303.15 K to 323.15 K. A semi-empirical model was employed to fit the experimental CO2 solubility data, and the deviations between the experimental and fitted values were calculated. At a temperature of 303.15 K and a pressure of 100 kPa, the CO2 solubilities in the DES + water systems of TBAB and MEA, with molar ratios of 1:8, 1:9, and 1:10, were measured to be 0.1430 g/g, 0.1479 g/g, and 0.1540 g/g, respectively. Finally, it was concluded that the DES + water systems had a superior CO2 capture capacity compared to the 30% aqueous monoethanolamine solution commonly used in industry, indicating the potential of DES + water systems for CO2 capture.

Trichomonas gallinae (T. gallinae) is a flagellated protozoan and the causative agent of trichomoniasis, or canker, in birds. In the current study, the prevalence of T. gallinae was firstly investigated in five breeds. According to the results of the prevalence study, White King pigeons were selected as the experimental animals. A total of 135 White King squabs at one day of age were randomly divided into two groups and raised in separate isolators. The challenged group (N = 100) was challenged intranasally with 5 × 106 parasites/mL of the T. gallinae strain, and the control group (N = 35) was intranasally administered medium of equivalent volume. At 1, 2, 3 and 5 days post infection (DPIs), the crops and esophagi were collected for RNA extraction and formaldehyde fixation. The results showed that prevalence of T. gallinae in the five breeds ranged from 27.13% (White Carneau) to 43.14% (White King). After the challenge, mild microscopic lesions were observed in both tissues. Apoptosis rates were higher in the challenged group than in the control group at 2 and 5 DPIs in the crop and at 1, 2 and 7 DPIs in the esophagus. For both tissues, relative expression of IL-1β increased dramatically at the beginning and decreased at 5 DPIs, and TGF-β increased stably in the challenged group.

Precisely assessing the vulnerability of landslides is essential for effective risk assessment. The findings from such assessments will undoubtedly be in high demand, providing a solid scientific foundation for a range of critical initiatives aimed at disaster prevention and control. In the research, authors set the ancient core district of Sichuan Moxi Ancient Town as the research object; they conduct and give the final result of the geological survey. Fault influences are commonly utilized as key markers for delineating strata in the field of stratigraphy, and the slope distance, slope angle, slope aspect, elevation, terrain undulation, plane curvature, profile curvature, mean curvature, relative elevation, land use type, surface roughness, water influence, distance of the catchment, cumulative water volume, and the Normalized Vegetation Index (NDVI) are used along roads to calculate annual rainfall. With the purpose of the establishment of the evaluation system, there are 17 factors selected in total. Through the landslide-susceptibility assessment by the coupled models of DNN-I-SVM and DNN-I-LR nine factors had been selected; it was found that the Area Under the Curve (AUC) value of the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (ROC) was high, and the accuracy of the model is relatively high. The coupler, DNN-I-LR, gives 0.875 of an evaluation accuracy of AUC, higher than DNN-I-SVM, which yielded 0.860. It is necessary to note that, in this region, compared to the DNN-I-SVM model, the DNN-I-LR coupling model has better fitting and prediction abilities.

Abstract Argonaute (AGO) proteins are highly conserved and widely distributed across various organisms. They mainly associate with small RNAs (sRNAs) and act as integral players of the RNA-induced silencing complex in the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, regulating gene expression at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, thereby mounting diverse fine-tuning functions in a variety of biological processes. Since the discovery and functional characterization of the first AGO in Arabidopsis, our understanding of the functions of AGO proteins has grown rapidly throughout the plant kingdom. AGO1 attracts investigators’ attention because it forms an autoregulatory loop with miR168 and associates with other endogenous sRNAs and cross-kingdom exogenous sRNAs to relay all-round functions. AGO1 associates with endogenous sRNAs that form a complicated regulatory network via targeting a large body of downstream genes involved in growth, development, and stress-induced responses. Host AGO1 may also be exploited by cross-kingdom exogenous sRNAs generated by parasitic organisms to facilitate their colonization via suppressing host defense genes. Moreover, many pathogenic microbes directly target host AGO1 to facilitate their infection via suppression of the host RNAi pathway. Thus, we focus on plant AGO1 and provide an overview of our current understanding of the roles of AGO1 in the coordination of plant disease resistance with growth and development. We also discuss the perspectives in the dissection of the AGO1-mediated signal transduction pathway.

The global production and consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) has been on the rise in recent decades. The intake of SSBs has been increasing in China, and it is more prevalent among children and adolescents. As research continues to intensify, more and more studies have shown that, in addition to the increased risks of dental caries and obesity reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), SSBs intake can also increase risks of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, gout, and cancer, and early death, adding to the burden of disease. Due to the health risks associated with the overconsumption of SSBs, many countries around the world have taken measures to control the intake. The main measures currently in place are taxation of SSBs, restrictions on marketing and sales of SSBs, front-of-package labeling and reducing availability of SSBs in schools. In China, the main measures currently in place are to control the sales of beverages in schools, with Shenzhen taking the lead in implementing health warning labeling to alcoholic beverages and carbonated beverages, extending the measures to reduce SSBs intake beyond school grounds.
