This paper investigates how personality education can be improved among technicians in Korea, proposing a methodology for improving personality education of technicians of Korea Polytechnics. The personality education course for technicians is implemented to improve and reinforce the current liberal arts education in Korea Polytechnics. The methodology proposed in this study includes comparing the personality education at Korea Polytechnics with that of other junior colleges. Furthermore, it included selecting the best volunteer club at college, participating in technical volunteer work abroad, awarding best readers at college, and introducing the best teaching program for enhancing student motivation in the English class. Based on the findings of implementing this methodology, the study recommends nine suggestions for improving personality education, drawing on four case studies from two campuses of Korea Polytechnics, Further research is required in this field before implementing these recommendations.

In August of 2011, a wilting disease of ginseng was observed at Bongwha, Gyeongbuk province, Korea. Affected plants initially show withering symptoms on leaves of ginseng. As the disease progresses, withering leaves spread downward, eventually encompassing the whole plant. Leaves lose vigor but remain pale green. Symptoms of roots were brown, and soft rots characterized by moist and watery decay of the whole ginseng root, which initiated as small brown, water-soaked lesions of hairy roots and enlarged to the entire roots. The causal organism isolated from the infected roots was identified as Serratia plymuthica based on its physiological and biochemical characteristics, by cellular fatty acid composition (GC-FAME), the utilization of carbon sources (BioLog System), and 16S rRNA sequence of the isolated bacterium were 99% homologous to those of Serratia plymuthica strains. Artificial inoculation of the bacterium produced the same brown or soft rot symptoms on the ginseng roots, from which the same bacterium was isolated. This is the first report of bacterial root rot caused by the Serratia plymuthica in ginseng in Korea. Serratia plymuthica has been used as antagonistic microorganism for biological control on several crop plants. But it was proved pathogen of ginseng at humid condition in this study.

There have been CFIT(Controlled Flight Into Terrain) accidents that can be prevented if the crew executed go-around. This study is to analyse the common factors of three typical CFIT accidents of Korea in TEM(threat and error management) frame, and the examples of go-around gate and the countermeasures of eight airlines through the survey facilitating go-around to prevent CFIT. The common factors found in three typical CFIT accidents occurred in Korea or by Korean carriers turned out to be in mountainous terrain, in bad weather while in non-precision approach or circling approach by captain as PF(Pilot Flying) when crew make monitoring errors and communication errors. It also turned out that the crew in all three typical tragic CFIT accidents did not execute go-around in unstabilized approaches. The captains did not respond immediately when first officers advised them to go-around until it is too late. Seven out of eight Airlines answered that they use stabilized approach height as 1,000 feet to be stabilized earlier to have more safety margin by enhancing go-around gate regardless of the weather to prevent CFIT in the survey.

A disease, supposedly caused by a virus, was observed from Insam (Panax ginseng) fields of Punggi in year 2006. It has long believed to be a physiological disorder. However, the incidence of the disease has increased every year. When several samples were observed under electron microscope, filamentous virus-like particles were observed. The nucleotide sequences of the virus were analyzed by RT-PCR with specific primer sets derived from the results of DNA chip. The results indicated that the disease was caused by Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV). It revealed that the result of the biological assay by the virus was different from that of WMV previously found in other crops. Therefore, this is the first report that WMV causes the disease in P. ginseng and the virus is named to be WMV-Insam.

Punggi Ginseng Experiment, Gyeongbuk Provincial ATA, YeongJu 750-870, Korea.ABSTRACT : Lime-bordeaux mixture has been used to prevent diseases in the field of ginseng. The purpose of this study isto investigate the efficacy of lime-bordeaux depending on the concentration and treatment time on major diseases of ginsengsuch as Alternaria blight and anthracnose, and to evaluate the root growth of ginseng. Lime-bordeaux caused damage onleaf when it was sprayed on ginseng between April and early May. No difference was found in root growth by sprayinglime-bordeaux mixture between ratio 4-4 and 8-8 ratio in concentration. Plot of 6-6 raito and 8-8 ratio appeared to be sim-ilar efficacy compared to that of practical chemical control. However, the plot of 4-4 ratio showed lower than that of chem-ical control.Key Words : Panax ginseng, Lime-Bordeaux Mixture, Alternaria blight, Anthracnose

Korean ginseng has been used for thousands of years as an important medicinal plant. Lime-Bordeaux mixture (LBM) was made with copper sulfate and quicklime, which was sprayed instead of pesticides in ginseng field. Net photosynthesis (P N ) was compared between Treatment and Non-treatment of LBM in 3 Year Old Ginseng. P N in control plot recorded 2.94 μmol (CO₂) m -2 s -1 at the first day of experiment, which was similar until the last day of experiment. However, The PN in LBM recorded 2.23 μmol (CO₂) m -2 s -1 , which was lower than that in control plot. As time goes by, The PN in LBM was gradually increased up to 3.21 μmol (CO₂) m -2 s -1 and finally, it was similar with that in control plot at 7th day as a 3.20 μmol (CO₂) m -2 s -1 ).

One major safety issue of surface operations is the occurrence of runway incursions. Runway incursions are the consequence of multiple operational a nd/or environmental factors. Human error is known to contribute to almost every runway incursion. One major contributing factor for runway incursion is crew’s lack of situational awareness during airport surface operations, induced by weather considerations, by complex airport factors or by crew technique itself; it is also caused by ATC issues. Vari ous airport factors may affect pilot situational awareness, distract the crew, or lead to crew confusion. The recommendations to avoid runway incursions are manifold; Proper Crew’s CRM/TEM skills, adequate communication technique, proper knowledge of airport surface markings, lights and signs and preparation of preparation of expected taxi out/in ro uting. This study investigated quality characteristics of 4 year-old ginseng by enzymatic hydrolysis conditions to increase utilization. Ginseng was ground after steaming and was each treated with hydrolase A, B, C and D. When quality characteristics by the enzymes were examined, no significant difference was observed with pH of 5.5~5.6 and the sugar content of 4.0~4.33. The crude saponin content was the highest in ginseng treated with D, followed by B, C and A. The crude saponin, the reducing sugar and the total sugar contents increased until 0.3% (w/w) concentration in enzyme D with no significant difference by its concentration. Although active ingredients increased with time passage of hydrolysis, no significant change was found after three hours and the crude saponin content was the highest when ginseng was treated at . From these results, optimum conditions for 4 year-old ginseng were for 3 hours with 0.3% (w/w) enzyme D, and under these conditions the reducing sugar, the total sugar and the crude saponin contents recorded 18.11, 36.21 and 4.23 mg/g, respectively. Therefore, enzymatic hydrolysis was found to be effective in increasing active ingredients of 4 year-old ginseng with various usages expected.

Src family non-receptor tyrosine kinases are involved in signaling pathways which mediate cell growth, differentiation, transformation and tissue remodeling in various organs. In an effort to elucidate functional involvement of p60c-Src (c-Src) in spermatogenesis, the postnatal changes in c-src mRNA and c-Src protein together with kinase activity and subcellular localization were examined in mouse testes. c-src mRNA levels in testes increased during the first 2 weeks of postnatal development (PND). Following a decrease at puberty (PND 28), the c-src mRNA levels re-increased at adulthood (PND 50). Src kinase activity of testes was low at PND 7 but sharply increased prepubertally (PND 15) and highest at adulthood. Upon Western blotting, the level of c-Src protein was the highest in prepubertal testes but rather decreased in adult testes at PND 50. In adult testes, ubiquitination of c-Src proteins was apparent compared with immature one at PND 7, suggesting active turnover of c-Src by ubiquitination. In immature testes, c-Src immunoreactivity was largely found in the cytoplasm of the Sertoli cells. By contrast, in pubertal and adult testes intense immunoreactivity was localized at the adluminal and basal cytoplasm of Sertoli cells bearing elongated spermatids and early germ cells, respectively. The immunoreactivity of c-Src in the Leydig cells was increased during pubertal development, suggesting the functional involvement of c-Src in differentiated adult Leydig cells. Throughout postnatal development, some spermatogonia and spermatocytes showed intensive c-Src immunoreactivity compared with other germ cells, suggesting a possible role of c-Src in germ cell death. Taken together, it is suggested that c-Src may participate in the remodeling of the seminiferous epithelia and functional differentiation of Leydig cells during the postnatal development of mouse testes.
