The dynamic pricing problem of a freeway corridor with high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes was formulated and solved based on a point queue abstraction of the traffic system [Yin and Lou, 2009]. However, existing pricing strategies cannot guarantee that the closed-loop system converges to the optimal state, in which the HOT lanes' capacity is fully utilized but there is no queue on the HOT lanes, and a well-behaved estimation and control method is quite challenging and still elusive. This paper attempts to fill the gap by making three fundamental contributions: (i) to present a simpler formulation of the point queue model based on the new concept of residual capacity, (ii) to propose a simple feedback control theoretic approach to estimate the average value of time and calculate the dynamic price, and (iii) to analytically and numerically prove that the closed-loop system is stable and guaranteed to converge to the optimal state, in either Gaussian or exponential manners., Comment: 34 pages, 16 figures

A stable dynamic pricing scheme is essential to guarantee the desired performance of high-occupancy-toll (HOT) lanes, where single-occupancy vehicles (SOVs) can pay a price to use the HOT lanes. But existing methods apply to either only one type of lane-choice models with unknown parameters or different types of lane-choice models but with known parameters. In this study we present a new dynamic pricing scheme that is stable and applies to different types of lane-choice models with unknown parameters. There are two operational objectives for operating HOT lanes: (i) to maintain the free-flow condition to guarantee the travel time reliability; and (ii) to maximize the HOT lanes' throughput to minimize the system's total delay. The traffic dynamics on both HOT and general purpose (GP) lanes are described by point queue models, where the queueing times are determined by the demands and capacities. We consider three types of lane-choice models: the multinomial logit model when SOVs share the same value of time, the vehicle-based user equilibrium model when SOVs' values of time are heterogeneous and follow a distribution, and a general lane-choice model. We demonstrate that the second objective is approximately equivalent to the social welfare optimization principle for the logit model. Observing that the dynamic price and the excess queueing time on the GP lanes are linearly correlated in all the lane-choice models, we propose a feedback control method to determine the dynamic prices based on two integral controllers. We further present a method to estimate the parameters of a lane-choice model once its type is known. Analytically we prove that the equilibrium state of the closed-loop system with constant demand patterns is ideal, since the two objectives are achieved in it, and that it is asymptotically stable. Medium modification of jet substructure within the hot and dense nuclear matter has attracted enormous interest from the heavy-ion physics community in recent years. Measurements of inclusive jet show the angular narrowing in nucleus-nucleus collisions, while the recent CMS results of the photon-tagged jets ($\gamma-$jet) indicate hints of broadening. In this work, we conduct a theoretical study on the angular structure of inclusive jet and $\gamma-$jet with a transport approach considering the jet energy loss and the medium response in the quark-gluon plasma. We carry out the girth modification of $\gamma-$jet in $0-30\%$ PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 5.02 TeV, which shows a satisfactory agreement with the recent CMS measurement. We explore the connection between the selection bias and the jet kinematics when choosing different $x_{j\gamma}=p_T^{\rm jet}/p_T^{\gamma}$ threshold. Importantly, we quantitatively demonstrate that $\gamma-$jet provides significant advantages to reduce the selection bias and can effectively collect jets sufficiently quenched in PbPb collisions compared to the inclusive jet, which is critical to capture the jet angular broadening observed by CMS. Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) magnets are crucial for ultra-compact spintronics. However, so far, no vdW crystal has exhibited tunable above-room-temperature intrinsic ferromagnetism in the 2D ultrathin regime. Here, we report the tunable above-room-temperature intrinsic ferromagnetism in ultrathin vdW crystal Fe$_{3+x}$GaTe$_2$ ($x$ = 0 and 0.3). By increasing the Fe content, the Curie temperature (TC) and room-temperature saturation magnetization of bulk Fe$_{3+x}$GaTe$_2$ crystals are enhanced from 354 to 376 K and 43.9 to 50.4 emu/g, respectively. Remarkably, the robust anomalous Hall effect in 3-nm Fe$_{3.3}$GaTe$_2$ indicate a record-high TC of 340 K and a large room-temperature perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy of 6.6 * 10^5 J/m$^3$, superior to other ultrathin vdW ferromagnets. First-principles calculations reveal the asymmetric density of states and an additional large spin exchange interaction in ultrathin Fe$_{3+x}$GaTe$_2$ responsible for robust intrinsic ferromagnetism and higher Tc. This work opens a window for above-room-temperature ultrathin 2D magnets in vdW-integrated spintronics.

Magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) have been widely applied in spintronic devices for efficient spin detection through the imbalance of spin polarization at the Fermi level. The van der Waals (vdW) nature of two-dimensional (2D) magnets with atomic-scale flat surfaces and negligible surface roughness greatly facilitates the development of MTJs, yet is only restricted to ferromagnets. Here, we report A-type antiferromagnetism in 2D vdW single-crystal (Fe0.8Co0.2)3GaTe2 with TN~203 K in bulk and ~185 K in 9-nm nanosheets. The metallic nature and out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy make it a suitable candidate for MTJ electrodes. By constructing heterostructures based on (Fe0.8Co0.2)3GaTe2/WSe2/Fe3GaTe2, we obtain a large tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) ratio of 180% at low temperature and the TMR retains at near-room temperature 280 K. Moreover, the TMR is tunable by the electric field down to 1 mV, implying the potential in energy-efficient spintronic devices. Our work provides new opportunities for 2D antiferromagnetic spintronics and quantum devices.

This paper presents a phenomenological study on the angle between the Standard and the Winner-Take-All (WTA) jet axes ($\Delta R_{{\rm axis}}^{{\rm WTA-Std}}$) in high-energy nuclear collisions. The $p$+$p$ baseline is provided by the Pythia8 event generator. The in-medium jet propagation is simulated by the linear Boltzmann transport (LBT) model, which considers both the elastic and inelastic jet-medium interactions. Our theoretical results calculated by the LBT model show that the $\Delta R_{{\rm axis}}^{{\rm WTA-Std}}$ distribution in Pb+Pb at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV is narrower than that in $p$+$p$, which agrees well with the recent ALICE measurements. The narrowing of $\Delta R_{{\rm axis}}^{{\rm WTA-Std}}$ seems to violate the $p_T$-broadening nature of the jet quenching effect, usually explained by the influence of "selection bias". However, the physical details still need to be fully understood. Utilizing a matching-jet method to track the jet evolution in the QGP to remove the selection bias in the Monte Carlo simulations, we observe that the $\Delta R_{{\rm axis}}^{{\rm WTA-Std}}$ distribution becomes broader due to the jet-medium interactions. At the same time, by rescaling the quark/gluon-jet fractions in Pb+Pb collisions to be the same as that in $p$+$p$, we find that the fraction change may not significantly influence the modification pattern of jet $\Delta R_{{\rm axis}}^{{\rm WTA-Std}}$. On the other hand, the selected jet sample in A+A collisions has a significantly narrower initial $\Delta R_{{\rm axis}}^{{\rm WTA-Std}}$ distribution than the $p$+$p$ baseline, and such a biased comparison between $p$+$p$ and A+A conceals the actual jet-broadening effect in the experimental measurements. Developing novel high-temperature van der Waals ferromagnetic semiconductor materials and investigating their interface coupling effects with two-dimensional topological semimetals are pivotal for advancing next-generation spintronic and quantum devices. However, most van der Waals ferromagnetic semiconductors exhibit ferromagnetism only at low temperatures, limiting the proximity research on their interfaces with topological semimetals. Here, we report an intrinsic, van der Waals layered room-temperature ferromagnetic semiconductor crystal, FeCr0.5Ga1.5Se4 (FCGS), with a Curie temperature as high as 370 K, setting a new record for van der Waals ferromagnetic semiconductors. The saturation magnetization at low temperature (2 K) and room temperature (300 K) reaches 8.2 emu/g and 2.7 emu/g, respectively. Furthermore, FCGS possesses a bandgap of approximately 1.2 eV, which is comparable to the widely used commercial silicon. The FCGS/graphene heterostructure exhibits an impeccably smooth and gapless interface, thereby inducing a robust magnetic proximity coupling effect between FCGS and graphene. After the proximity coupling, graphene undergoes a charge carrier transition from electrons to holes, accompanied by a transition from non-magnetic to ferromagnetic transport behavior with robust anomalous Hall effect. Notably, the anomalous Hall effect remains robust even temperatures up to 400 K.

The discovery and manipulation of topological Hall effect (THE), an abnormal magnetoelectric response mostly related to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), are promising for next-generation spintronic devices based on topological spin textures such as magnetic skyrmions. However, most skyrmions and THE are stabilized in a narrow temperature window either below or over room temperature with high critical current manipulation. It is still elusive and challenging to achieve large THE with both wide temperature window till room temperature and low critical current manipulation. Here, by using controllable, naturally-oxidized, sub-20 and sub-10 nm 2D van der Waals room-temperature ferromagnetic Fe3GaTe2-x crystals, robust 2D THE with ultrawide temperature window ranging in three orders of magnitude from 2 to 300 K is reported, combining with giant THE of ~5.4 micro-ohm cm at 10 K and ~0.15 micro-ohm cm at 300 K which is 1-3 orders of magnitude larger than that of all known room-temperature 2D skyrmion systems. Moreover, room-temperature current-controlled THE is also realized with a low critical current density of ~6.2*10^5 A cm^-2. First-principles calculations unveil natural oxidation-induced highly-enhanced 2D interfacial DMI reasonable for robust giant THE. This work paves the way to room-temperature, electrically-controlled 2D THE-based practical spintronic devices.

Single-occupancy vehicles (SOVs) are charged to use the highoccupancy-toll (HOT) lanes, while high-occupancy-vehicles (HOVs) can drive in them at no cost. The pricing scheme for HOT lanes has been extensively studied at local bottlenecks or at the network level through computationally expensive simulations. However, the HOT lane pricing study on a freeway corridor with multiple origins and destinations as well as multiple interacting bottlenecks is a challenging problem for which no analytical results are available. In this paper, we attempt to fill the gap by proposing to study the traffic dynamics in the corridor based on the relative space paradigm. In this new paradigm, the interaction of multiple bottlenecks and trips can be captured with Vickrey's bathtub model by a simple ordinary differential equation. We consider three types of lane choice behavior and analyze their properties. Then, we propose a distance-based dynamic pricing scheme based on a linear combination of I-controllers. This closed-loop controller is independent of the model and feeds back the travel time difference between HOT lanes and general-purpose lanes. Given the mathematical tractability of the system model, we analytically study the performance of the proposed closed-loop control under constant demand and show the existence and stability of the optimal equilibrium. Finally, we verify the results with numerical simulations considering a typical peak period demand pattern. In the future, we are interested in extending this work and testing the performance of the proposed linear combination of I-controllers for other traffic flow models.

Agent-based models have been extensively used to simulate the behavior of travelers in transportation systems because they allow for realistic and versatile modeling of interactions. However, traditional agent-based models suffer from high computational costs and rely on tracking physical locations, raising privacy concerns. This paper proposes an efficient formulation for the agent-based bathtub model (AB2M) in the relative space, where each agent's trajectory is represented by a time series of the remaining distance to its destination. The AB2M can be understood as a microscopic model that tracks individual trips' initiation, progression, and completion and is an exact numerical solution of the bathtub model for generic (time-dependent) trip distance distributions. The model can be solved for a deterministic set of trips with a given demand pattern (defined by the start time of each trip and its distance), or it can be used to run Monte Carlo simulations to capture the average behavior and variation stochastic demand patterns, described by probabilistic distributions of trip distances and departure times. To enhance the computational efficiency, we introduce a priority queue formulation, eliminating the need to update trip positions at each time step and allowing us to run large-scale scenarios with millions of individual trips in seconds. We systematically explore the scaling properties and discuss the introduction of biases and numerical errors. The systematic exploration of scaling properties of the modeling of individual agents in the relative space with the AB2M further enhances its applicability to large-scale transportation systems and opens up opportunities for studying travel time reliability, scheduling, and mode choices.

Room-temperature electrically-tuned coercivity and nonvolatile multi-states magnetization switching is crucial for next-generation low-power 2D spintronics. However, most methods have limited ability to adjust the coercivity of ferromagnetic systems, and room-temperature electrically-driven magnetization switching shows high critical current density and high power dissipation. Here, highly-tunable coercivity and highly-efficient nonvolatile multi-states magnetization switching are achieved at room temperature in single-material based devices by 2D van der Waals itinerant ferromagnet Fe$_3$GaTe$_2$. The coercivity can be readily tuned up to ~98.06% at 300 K by a tiny in-plane electric field that is 2-5 orders of magnitude smaller than that of other ferromagnetic systems. Moreover, the critical current density and power dissipation for room-temperature magnetization switching in 2D Fe$_3$GaTe$_2$ are down to ~1.7E5 A cm$^{-2}$ and ~4E12 W m$^{-3}$, respectively. Such switching power dissipation is 2-6 orders of magnitude lower than that of other 2D ferromagnetic systems. Meanwhile, multi-states magnetization switching are presented by continuously controlling the current, which can dramatically enhance the information storage capacity and develop new computing methodology. This work opens the avenue for room-temperature electrical control of ferromagnetism and potential applications for vdW-integrated 2D spintronics.

This work presents the first theoretical investigation of the medium modification of jet broadening as an event-shape observable in multijet final states due to jet quenching in high-energy nuclear collisions. The partonic spectrum of $pp$ collisions with next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV is provided by the POWHEG$+$PYTHIA8 event generator, while the linear Boltzmann transport (LBT) model is utilized to investigate the energy loss of fast partons as they traverse through the hot and dense QCD medium. We present the jet broadening distributions in multijet final states for both $pp$ and PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV, then observe an enhancement at the small jet broadening region and suppression at the large jet broadening region in PbPb collisions relative to that in $pp$. This suggests that medium modification with parton energy loss in the QGP leads to a more concentrated energy flow in all observed multijet events in PbPb reactions. We also demonstrate that the intertwining of two effects, the jet number reduction and the restructured contribution, results in the novel behavior of nuclear modification of the jet broadening observable in PbPb collisions., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables
