This article reports the results of a study designed to describe and analyze the effect of a psychological intervention with psychoeducational components and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy techniques in a sample of informal primary caregivers of patients with a first psychotic episode. The experimental study involved 37 subjects, 18 of whom received the intervention and 19 of whom were on the waiting list. Pre- and post-intervention measurements were performed of the variables: perceived overload, burnout syndrome and stress coping. Treatment consisted of eight weekly group sessions. Prior to treatment, the scores of the variables studied in the control and experimental groups were equivalent. After the intervention, compared to the control group and after the possible influence of time on the results had been analyzed, it was found that those who had received treatment reported a significant decrease in "perceived overload" and "burnout syndrome", as well as an increase in the use of "active coping" strategies. The changes were found to have small and medium effect sizes. Clinicians working in early care services for psychosis may consider this multi-component intervention an effective support strategy for enhancing the psychological well-being of caregivers. Background: Suicidal behavior may be divided into completed suicide, suicide attempts, and suicidal ideation. It has been suggested that these behaviors represent a continuum and result from the interaction of several contributors, including genetic and environmental factors. The integration of approaches considering the polygenic component of suicidal behavior, such as polygenic risk scores (PRS) and DNA methylation is promising for improving our understanding of the complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors in this behavior. The aim of this study was the evaluation of DNA methylation differences between individuals with high and low genetic burden for suicidality. Methods: The present study was divided into two phases. In the first phase, genotyping with the Psycharray chip was performed in a discovery sample of 568 Mexican individuals, of which 149 had suicidal behavior (64 individuals with suicidal ideation, 50 with suicide attempt and 35 with completed suicide) and 419 non-suicide controls. Then, a PRS analysis based on summary statistics from the Psychiatric Genomic Consortium was performed in the discovery sample. In a second phase, we evaluated DNA methylation differences between individuals with high and low genetic burden for suicidality in a sub-sample of the discovery sample (target sample) of 94 subjects. Methylation profile from individuals in the target sample was assessed with the Illumina Infinium Human Methylation EPIC BeadChip. Results: We identified 153 differentially methylated sites between individuals with low and high-PRS. From these, 91 sites were hypermethylated and 62 hypomethylated in the high PRS group relative to low PRS group. Among genes mapped to differentially methylated sites, we found genes involved in neurodevelopment and ATP binding. Discussion: To our knowledge, this is the first study integrating polygenic risk scores and DNA methylation in suicidality. Our results suggest that genetic variants might increase the predisposition to epigenetic variations in genes involved in neurodevelopment. Background: One of the population groups at higher risk of suicide is that of people who attend mental health institutions., Objective: To know the demographic and clinical characteristics of people admitted for suicidal ideation and suicide attempt to the observation area of a psychiatric hospital in a period of 10 non-consecutive months., Material and Methods: Retrospective, descriptive, correlational study. A total of 439 medical records were collected, out of which 62.9% (n = 276) corresponded to women, 36.7% (n = 161) to men and 0.5% (n = 2) to transgender people; age ranged from 17 to 74 years., Results: The highest incidence of cases was observed between 18 and 25 years of age; the most frequent diagnosis was depressive disorder, and 45.5% (n = 200) of the cases had a suicide attempt. The main method for committing a suicidal act was poisoning by taking various medications, followed by self-inflicted injuries with sharp objects.
