Abstract Renewable electricity powered electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2R) offers a valuable method to close the carbon cycle and reduce our overreliance on fossil fuels. However, high purity CO2 is usually required as feedstock, which potentially decreases the feasibility and economic viability of the process. Direct conversion of flue gas is an attractive option but is challenging due to the low CO2 concentration and the presence of O2 impurities. As a result, up to 99% of the applied current can be lost towards the undesired oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Here, we show that acidic electrolyte can significantly suppress ORR on Cu, enabling generation of multicarbon products from simulated flue gas. Using a composite Cu and carbon supported single-atom Ni tandem electrocatalyst, we achieved a multicarbon Faradaic efficiency of 46.5% at 200 mA cm-2, which is ~20 times higher than bare Cu under alkaline conditions. We also demonstrate stable performance for 24 h with a multicarbon product full-cell energy efficiency of 14.6%. Strikingly, this result is comparable to previously reported acidic CO2R systems using pure CO2. Our findings demonstrate a potential pathway towards designing efficient electrolyzers for direct conversion of flue gas to value-added chemicals and fuels.

The hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetic properties of MgH2 can be effectively enhanced by doping specific catalysts. In this work, MOFs-derived NiCu@C nanoparticles (∼15 nm) with regular core-shell structure were successfully prepared and introduced into MgH2 (denoted as MgH2NiCu@C). The onset and peak temperatures of hydrogen desorption of MgH2–11 wt.% NiCu@C are 175.0 °C and 282.2 °C, respectively. The apparent activation energy of dehydrogenated reaction is 77.2 ± 4.5 kJ/mol for MgH2–11 wt.% NiCu@C, which is lower than half of that of the as-milled MgH2. Moreover, MgH2–11 wt.% NiCu@C displays great cyclic stability. The strengthening “hydrogen pumping” effect of reversible solid solutions Mg2Ni(Cu)/Mg2Ni(Cu)H4 is proposed to explain the remarkable improvement in hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetic properties of MgH2. This work offers a novel perspective for the design of bimetallic nanoparticles and beyond for application in hydrogen storage and other energy related fields.

Two-dimensional Ti3C2Tx MXenes exposing different active facets are introduced into MgH2, and their catalytic effects are systematically investigated in depth through experimental and theoretical approaches. Excluding factors such as interlayer space, surface functional groups and experimental contingency, the exposed facets is considered to be the dominant factor for catalytic activity of Ti3C2Tx towards MgH2. More exposed edge facets of Ti3C2Tx displays higher catalytic activity than that with more exposed basal facets, which also leads to different rate-controlling steps of MgH2 in the de/hydrogenation process. The low work function, strong hydrogen affinity and high content of in situ metallic Ti for the edge facet contribute the high catalytic activity. This work will give insights into the structural design of two-dimensional Ti3C2Tx MXene used for enhancing the catalytic activity in various fields.

Abstract Tetracycline (TC) is a widely used antibiotic that adversely affects ecosystems and, therefore, must be removed from the environment. Owing to their strong ability to oxidise pollutants, including antibiotics, and selectivity for these pollutants, an improved oxidation method based on sulphate radicals (SO4·−) has gained considerable interest. In this study, a novel technique for removing TC was developed by activating peroxymonosulphate (PMS) using a ZnFe2O4 catalyst. Using the co-precipitation method, a ZnFe2O4 catalyst was prepared by doping zinc into iron-based materials, which increased the redox cycle, while PMS was active and facilitated the production of free radicals. According to electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy results, a ZnFe2O4 catalyst may activate PMS and generate SO4·−, HO·, O2·−, and 1O2 to eliminate TC. This research offers a new method for creating highly effective heterogeneous catalysts that can activate PMS and destroy antibiotics. The study proposes the following degradation pathways: hydroxylation and ring-opening of TC based on the products identified using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. These results illustrated that the prepared ZnFe2O4 catalyst effectively removed TC and exhibited excellent catalytic performance.

The drill pipe of a rotary rig is subject to the dynamic influence of non-stationary loads, including rotation torque and applied force. In order to address the challenge of simultaneously extrapolating multiple non-stationary loads, a novel extrapolation framework is proposed. This framework utilizes rainflow counting to obtain mean and amplitude sequences of the loads. The extreme values of the amplitude sequence are fitted using the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD), while the median values are fitted using the Double Kernel Density Estimation (DKDE). By extrapolating the Inverse Cumulative Distribution Function (ICDF) based on the fitted distribution, a new amplitude sequence can be derived. The combination of this extrapolated amplitude sequence with the original mean sequence forms a new load spectrum. The results of applying the proposed extrapolation method to the drill pipe of a rotary rig demonstrate the ability of the method to yield conservative extrapolation results and accurately capture the variations in damage under the original working conditions.

Electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is a promising technology for mitigating global warming and storing renewable energy. Designing low-cost and efficient electrocatalysts with high selectivity is a priority to facilitate CO2 conversion. Halide ion (F–, Cl–, Br–, I–) modified electrocatalysts is a potential strategy to promote CO2 reduction and suppress the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Therefore, a comprehensive review of the role and mechanism of halide ions in the CO2RR process can help better guide the future design of efficient electrocatalysts. In this review, we first discuss the role of halide ions on the structure and morphology of electrocatalysts. Secondly, the relationship between the halide ions and the valence states of the active sites on the catalyst surface is further elaborated on. Thirdly, the mechanisms of halide in enhancing CO2 conversion efficiency are also summarized, including the involvement of halide ions in electron transfer and their influence on the reaction pathway. Finally, we conclude with a summary and future outlook.

Abstract We tested the hypothesis that soil texture and nitrogen (N) fertilisation are the primary factors regulating the N cycle and soil bacterial community structure. The response of soil bacterial communities to N fertilisation in different textured soils might help in identifying the specific underlying mechanism and hence management of N fertiliser application in fields. We examined how N fertiliser accumulates in flue-cured tobacco and influences soil bacterial community structure in different textured soils. We conducted plot and micro-plot experimental measurements of N content in soil and tobacco samples using the KNO3 15N isotope technique. Soil bacterial community structure was determined using high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA. Nitrogen absorption and utilisation by tobacco plants were highest in sandy loam soils, followed by loam soil and clay loam. The ability of clay loam to supply N was weak during the plant growth period. Absence of fertilisation could reduce bacterial abundance in soils to various degrees. Bacterial diversity was higher in sandy loam soil than in loam soil and clay loam. Soil texture and N fertilisation significantly affected soil bacterial community structure and diversity. Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, and Chloroflexi were the dominant bacterial phyla, while Bacillus, Nitrobacter, Nitrosospira, Nitrospira, and Rhizobium were the primary N transformation bacteria at the genus level in all treatments. However, relative abundances differed with N fertiliser application, which could lead to differential N availability and N use efficiency of tobacco among soil types. We conclude that both soil texture and N fertilisation influence N accumulation and distribution in flue-cured tobacco and thus regulate soil bacterial communities. N fertiliser application in sandy loam soil should be strictly controlled for its higher N use efficiency, soil bacterial abundance, and diversity.

Abstract Biochar is an effective soil conditioner. However, we have limited understanding of biochar effects on the tobacco growth and bacterial communities in rhizosphere. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different straw biochar amendment (0, 2, 10, and 50 g/kg dry soil) on tobacco growth, soil properties, and bacterial communities in rhizosphere by pot trials. Most of tobacco agronomic traits increased when the application rate varied from 0 to 10 g/kg, but were inhibited by 50 g/kg of biochar application. Soil pH, SOC, available nutrients and soil urease, invertase, and acid phosphatase activities were all increased with the biochar application, whereas catalase activity decreased or remained unchanged. The OTUs and bacterial community diversity indices differed with the biochar application doses in rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils. And significant differences in bacterial communities were found between the rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils despite the biochar addition. Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Actinobacteria were the dominant phyla in all soil samples, but they had different abundances in different treatment influenced by the rhizosphere and biochar effect. The high dose of biochar (50 g/kg) decreased the similarity of soil bacterial community structure in rhizosphere compared with those in non-rhizosphere soil. These results provide a better understanding of the microecological benefits of straw biochar in tobacco ecosystem.

In situ NbC-reinforced laser cladding Ni45 coatings have the advantages of high bond strengths, low dilution rates, small heat-affected zones and good wear resistance and have broad application prospects in the field of surface strengthening and repair of workpieces such as automotive molds and engine turbines. Previous studies have mostly used pure niobium powder for in situ synthesis to prepare Ni-based NbC coatings with a high production cost. In this paper, NbC was successfully synthesized in situ in Ni45 powder using inexpensive FeNb65 and Cr3C2. The prepared coating has a uniform microstructure and excellent wear resistance, and the reinforced phases are mainly NbC and Cr23C6. Coating 4# with 25 wt.% FeNb65 + Cr3C2 has the highest microhardness of 776.3HV0.2, about 1.45 times that of the Ni45 coating, and its wear resistance is 36.36 min/mg, about 60.6 times that of the Cr12MoV steel base material and about 23.76 times that of the Ni45 coating.

Abstract Light metal hydrolysis for hydrogen supply is well suited for portable hydrogen fuel cells. The addition of catalysts can substantially aid Mg hydrolysis. However, there is a lack of clear catalytic mechanism to guide the design of efficient catalysts. In this work, the essential role of nanosized catalyst (Ni3Fe/rGO) in activating micro‐sized Mg with ultra‐rapid hydrolysis process is investigated for the first time. Here, an unprecedented content of 0.2 wt% Ni3Fe/rGO added Mg can release 812.4 mL g−1 hydrogen in just 60 s at 30 °C. Notably, an impressive performance with a hydrogen yield of 826.4 mL g−1 at 0 °C in only 30 s is achieved by the Mg‐2 wt% Ni3Fe/rGO, extending the temperature range for practical applications of hydrolysis. Moreover, the four catalysts (Ni3Fe/rGO, Ni3Fe, Ni/rGO, Fe/rGO) are designed to reveal the influence of composition, particle size, and dispersion on catalytic behavior. Theoretical studies corroborate that the addition of Ni3Fe/rGO accelerates the electron transfer and coupling processes and further provides a lower energy barrier diffusion path for hydrogen. Thus, a mechanism concerning the catalyst as migration relay is proposed. This work offers guidelines designing high‐performance catalysts especially for activating the hydrolysis of micro‐sized light weight metals.

Existing architecture semantic modeling methods in 3D complex urban scenes continue facing difficulties, such as limited training data, lack of semantic information, and inflexible model processing. Focusing on extracting and adopting accurate semantic information into a modeling process, this work presents a framework for lightweight modeling of buildings that joints point clouds semantic segmentation and 3D feature line detection constrained by geometric and photometric consistency. The main steps are: (1) Extraction of single buildings from point clouds using 2D-3D semi-supervised semantic segmentation under photometric and geometric constraints. (2) Generation of lightweight building models by using 3D plane-constrained multi-view feature line extraction and optimization. (3) Introduction of detailed semantics of building elements into independent 3D building models by using fine-grained segmentation of multi-view images to achieve high-accuracy architecture lightweight modeling with fine-grained semantic information. Experimental results demonstrate that it can perform independent lightweight modeling of each building on point cloud at various scales and scenes, with accurate geometric appearance details and realistic textures. It also enables independent processing and analysis of each building in the scenario, making them more useful in practical applications.

This paper focuses on calculating resilience index of 282 cities in China from 2012 to 2019, to analysis the regional differences and random convergence. We use the entropy method to calculate the urban resilience index, adopt the Dagum Gini coefficient method to analyze the regional differences and the sources, explore the variation coefficients method and beta convergence model to diagnose the convergence mechanism. The conclusions are: (1) The urban resilience in China is at a medium and low level with a stable growth tendency, with a significant regional unbalance of “higher in east, and lower in other regions”. As the sub-resilience, there is a big gap in the regional difference of the resilience structure with good performance in social resilience and economic resilience, poor in ecological resilience and infrastructure resilience. (2) The Gini coefficient of urban resilience continuously decreases with the regional unbalance narrowing accordingly. The Gini coefficients in different regions have a phased convergence tendency, and the hypervariable density contribution and intra-regional differences contribution are the main sources of differences in urban resilience. (3) The urban resilience in China and eastern region has σ convergence, while China and all regions have significant absolute β and conditional β convergence. Therefore, this paper proposes to continuously accelerate the urban resilient construction, make up for the shortcomings, and narrow the regional development gap, to promote the healthy and orderly development of cities. Abstract Background Three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) reconstruction technology has gained attention owing to its potential in locating ground glass nodules in the lung. The 3D printing technology additionally allows the visualisation of the surrounding anatomical structure and variations. However, the clinical utility of these techniques is unknown. This study aimed to establish a lung tumour and an anatomical lung model using 3D printing and 3D chest CT reconstruction and to evaluate the clinical potential of 3D printing technology in uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic segmentectomy. Methods Eighty-nine patients with ground glass nodules who underwent uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic segmentectomy were classified into the following groups: group A, lung models for pre-positioning and simulated surgery that were performed with 3D chest CT reconstruction and 3D printing, and group B, patients who underwent chest CT scans with image enhancement for 3D reconstruction. The differences in the surgery approach transfer rate, surgical method conversion rate, operative time, intraoperative blood loss, and postoperative complication rate were compared between the two groups. Results Between groups A and B, there were significant differences in the approach transfer rate (0% vs.10.5%, p = 0.030), operative time (2.07 ± 0.24 h vs. 2.55 ± 0.41 h, p < 0.001), intraoperative blood loss volume (43.25 ± 13.63 mL vs. 96.68 ± 32.82 mL, p < 0.001) and the rate of surgical method conversion to lobectomy (0% vs. 10.5%, p < 0.030). In contrast, there was an insignificant difference in the postoperative complication rate between groups A and B (3.9% vs. 13.2%, p = 0.132). Conclusions 3D printing technology facilitates a more accurate location of nodules by surgeons, as it is based on two-dimensional and 3D image-based findings, and therefore, it can improve surgical accuracy and safety. This technique is worth applying in clinical practice.

Our previous study found that IL33 repressed the growth of pulmonary adenocarcinoma (PA) via regulation of dendritic cells (DCs). However, the molecular mechanism of DCs in PA is still unclear. The present work showed that CYLD−/− mice have a shorter survival rate of PA, and knockout CYLD in DCs also repress the progression of PA in mice. Subsequently, we found that decreased expression and reduced the nuclear translocation of NF-κB signalling was observed in CYLD knockout DCs, and inhibiting NF-κB pathway repressed DCs-induced proliferation and function of CD4+ T cells. These results indicated that CYLD function as a tumour suppresser in PA via regulates the function of DCs through NF-κB signalling pathway. Our findings support that CYLD serves as a potential target for immunotherapy in PA.

Doors are important elements of building façades in scanned point clouds. Accurate door detection is a critical step in building reconstruction and indoor navigation. However, recent door detection methods may often obtain incomplete information and can only detect doors with a single state (open or closed). To improve this, a door state recognition method is proposed based on corner detection and straight-line fitting. Firstly, plane segmentation based on local features is introduced to obtain structural division from the raw scanned data to extract the wall. Next, the bounding box of each plane is calculated to obtain the corner points, which is then combined with the feature constraint to classify the elements of door and wall. Then, the boundary of each plane is extracted by normal vector, and the disordered and discontinuous boundary points are straight-line fitted based on projection. Finally, the state of the door is obtained through analysis of the angle between the straight-lines of the wall and the door. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested and evaluated on the Livingroom of ICL-NUIM and House of Room detection datasets. Furthermore, comparative experimental results indicate that our method can extract corner points and recognize the different states of doors effectively and robustly in different scenes.

The evaluation of the catalytic capacity of catalysts is indispensable research, as catalytic capacity is a crucial factor to dictate the efficiency of heterogeneous Fenton catalysis. Herein, we obtained cigarette tar-methanol extracts (CTME) by applying methanol to cigarette tar and found that CTME could cause CL reactions with Fe2+/H2O2 systems in acidic, neutral, and alkaline media. The CL spectrum experiment indicated that the emission wavelengths of the CTME CL reaction with Fe2+/H2O2 systems were about 490 nm, 535 nm, and 590 nm. Quenching experiments confirmed that hydroxyl radicals (•OH) were responsible for the CL reaction for CTME. Then the CL property of CTME was applied in-situ to rapidly determine the amounts of •OH in tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone (TCBQ)/H2O2 system in acidic, neutral and alkaline media, and the CL intensities correlated the best (R2 = 0.99) with TCBQ concentrations. To demonstrate the utility of the CTME CL method, the catalytic capacity of different types and concentrations of catalysts in heterogeneous Fenton catalysis were examined. It was found that the order of CL intensities was consistent with the order of degradation efficiencies of Rhodamine B, indicating that this method could distinguish the catalytic capacity of catalysts. The CTME CL method could provide a convenient tool for the efficient evaluation of the catalytic capacity of catalysts in heterogeneous Fenton catalysis.

Real-time large-scale point cloud segmentation is an important but challenging task for practical applications such as remote sensing and robotics. Existing real-time methods have achieved acceptable performance by aggregating local information. However, most of them only exploit local spatial geometric or semantic information dependently, few considering the complementarity of both. In this paper, we propose a model named Spatial–Semantic Incorporation Network (SSI-Net) for real-time large-scale point cloud segmentation. A Spatial-Semantic Cross-correction (SSC) module is introduced in SSI-Net as a basic unit. High-quality contextual features can be learned through SSC by correcting and updating high-level semantic information using spatial geometric cues and vice versa. Adopting the plug-and-play SSC module, we design SSI-Net as an encoder–decoder architecture. To ensure efficiency, it also adopts a random sample-based hierarchical network structure. Extensive experiments on several prevalent indoor and outdoor datasets for point cloud semantic segmentation demonstrate that the proposed approach can achieve state-of-the-art performance.

Lung adenocarcinoma is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide. Low expression of Interleukin-33 (IL-33) was reported to be associated with the progression of pulmonary adenocarcinoma. However, the IL-33-mediated immunoregulation in pulmonary adenocarcinoma remains unclear. In this study, we found that IL-33 treatment evidently repressed tumour growth, induced CD4+ T cells infiltration and IL-17 expression in pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Notably, IL-33 treatment increased the number of Dendritic Cells (DCs) in pulmonary adenocarcinoma. More importantly, IL-33 induced maturation and regulated the function of DCs by increasing expression of DCs mature markers (CD40 and CD80, CD86) DCs-function-related gene including antigen presentation genes (HLA-DMA, HLA-DMB and CD74) and cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF). Mechanistic studies demonstrated that IL-33 treatment induced DCs maturation by upregulating CYLD expression in DCs. In addition, CYLD played an important role in DCs-induced T cell proliferation and IL-17 secretion. In conclusion, our study demonstrated that IL-33 mediated immunoregulation in pulmonary adenocarcinoma by improving DC-induced T cell proliferation by upregulating CYLD expression.
