Abstract The objective of this study is to utilize optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) techniques for the purpose of identifying abnormalities in retinal and conjunctival vascular density among patients afflicted with renal hypertension. From October 2022 to October 2023, a cohort of sixteen patients diagnosed with renal hypertension (RH), comprising a total of 32 eyes, was selected from the Department of Nephrology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. Concurrently, a group of sixteen healthy individuals, carefully matched in characteristics, was recruited from volunteers at the Ophthalmology Research Center and designated as the healthy controls (HCs) group. Optical coherence tomography angiography was employed to assess and examine the superficial vascular plexus (SVP) and deep vascular plexus (DVP) of the macular retina in both eyes. Subsequently, a comparative analysis was conducted between the two groups, focusing on the superficial and deep retinal microvessels (MIR), macrovascular (MAR), and total microvascular (TMI). Abstract Fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase (FAH) catalyzes the final step of the tyrosine degradation pathway. In this study, we isolated and characterized two homologous BnaFAH genes in Brassica napus L. variant Westar, and then used CRISPR/Cas9-mediated targeted mutagenesis to generate a series of transgene-free mutant lines either with single or double-null bnafah alleles. Among these mutant lines, the aacc (bnafah) double-null mutant line, rather than the aaCC (bnaa06fah) mutant line, exhibited programmed cell death (PCD) under short days (SD). Histochemical staining and content measurement confirmed that the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in bnafah was significantly higher than that in bnaa06fah. To further elucidate the mechanism of PCD, we performed transcriptomic analyses of bnaa06fah and bnafah at different SD stages. A heatmap cluster of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) revealed that PCD may be related to various redox regulatory genes involved in antioxidant activity, ROS-responsive regulation and calcium signaling. Combined with the results of previous studies, our work revealed that the expression levels of BnaC04CAT2, BnaA09/C09SAL1, BnaA08/C08ACO2, BnaA07/C06ERO1, BnaA08ACA1, BnaC04BIK1, BnaA09CRK36 and BnaA03CPK4 were significantly different and that these genes might be candidate hub genes for PCD. Together, our results underscore the ability of different PCD phenotypes to alter BnaFAH orthologs through gene editing and further elucidated the molecular mechanisms of oxidative stress-induced PCD in plants.

Abstract Under the dual impacts of global climate change and human activities, how to accurately and quantitatively assess and identify changes in watershed runoff is crucial to the rational development and utilization of water resources. Different methods of identifying runoff change attribution are applicable to different environments. In this study, we used five different methods, including the double mass curve (DMC), the soil and water assessment tool (SWAT), and the three Budyko hypotheses based on Fu, Choudhury‒Yang, and Milly‒Zhang formulas to explore the impact of human activities and climate change on runoff change in the Jinghe River basin (JRB). The results show that annual runoff of the JRB decreased considerably, and human activities accounted for more than 90%. Specifically, the results of the SWAT model and the three Budyko hypotheses are highly consistent except for the DMC method, which is not recommended in basins with significant changes in factors other than precipitation. More importantly, the Budyko hypothesis based on the Milly‒Zhang formula uses the vegetation water utilization coefficient to consider the impact of vegetation change on runoff, which is most consistent with the simulation results of the SWAT model and is recommended for the attribution analysis of changes in the Loess Plateau represented by the JRB.

Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to translate the Vicarious Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (VPTGI) into Chinese and to assess its reliability and validity in Nurses, Additionally, it explored the correlations between vicarious posttraumatic growth (VPTG), Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) and demographic variables. Methods The Brislin translation model was used to translate the VPTGI into Chinese. Validity analysis involved exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and assessments of convergent validity, discriminant validity, and content validity. Reliability analysis included split-half reliability, internal consistency reliability, and test-retest reliability. Item analysis employed the Critical Ratio Decision Value (CR) method, item-total correlation method, and reliability change method. Single-factor analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between demographic variables and VPTG, while correlation analysis explored the association between STS and VPTG. AIM: To examine the disparities in macular retinal vascular density between individuals with connective tissue disease-related interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) and healthy controls (HCs) by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and to investigate the changes in microvascular density in abnormal eyes. METHODS: For a retrospective case-control study, a total of 16 patients (32 eyes) diagnosed with CTD-ILD were selected as the ILD group. The 16 healthy volunteers with 32 eyes, matched in terms of age and sex with the patients, were recruited as control group. The macular retina's superficial retinal layer (SRL) and deep retinal layer (DRL) were examined and scanned using OCTA in each individual eye. The densities of retinal microvascular (MIR), macrovascular (MAR), and total microvascular (TMI) were calculated and compared. Abstract Background Multiple studies have shown that tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) promote cancer initiation and progression. However, the reprogramming of macrophages in the tumor microenvironment (TME) and the cross-talk between TAMs and malignant subclones in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) has not been fully characterized, especially in a spatially resolved manner. Deciphering the spatial architecture of variable tissue cellular components in iCCA could contribute to the positional context of gene expression containing information pathological changes and cellular variability. Methods Here, we applied spatial transcriptomics (ST) and digital spatial profiler (DSP) technologies with tumor sections from patients with iCCA. Results The results reveal that spatial inter- and intra-tumor heterogeneities feature iCCA malignancy, and tumor subclones are mainly driven by physical proximity. Tumor cells with TME components shaped the intra-sectional heterogenetic spatial architecture. Macrophages are the most infiltrated TME component in iCCA. The protein trefoil factor 3 (TFF3) secreted by the malignant subclone can induce macrophages to reprogram to a tumor-promoting state, which in turn contributes to an immune-suppressive environment and boosts tumor progression. Conclusions In conclusion, our description of the iCCA ecosystem in a spatially resolved manner provides novel insights into the spatial features and the immune suppressive landscapes of TME for iCCA.

AIM: To establish a meaningful standard for diagnosing ocular metastasis (OM) in menopausal breast cancer (BC) women, and explore the relationship between CA-153, CA-125, apolipoprotein A, and OM. METHODS: A total of 1362 menopausal female BC patients with OM volunteered to take part in this study between July 2012 and July 2022. Women with BC who are menopausal were found to have an OM incidence of 1.6%. Furthermore, CA-153, CA-125, and apolipoprotein A (Apo A) all contributed to OM in women with BC who are postmenopausal according to binary logistic regression. Receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis was used to assess the diagnostic value of OM in patients with BC. RESULTS: Both CA-153 and CA-153+CA-125 showed a higher sensitivity of 95.45%, whereas CA-153+Apo A illustrated the highest specificity of 99.02%. Moreover, CA-153 and CA-153+CA-125 had higher areas under the curve (AUC) of 0.973. CONCLUSION: The data indicate that the serum concentrations of CA-153 exhibited the most significant predictors of the diagnosis of OM in menopausal women with BC. The current study researches the utility of risk factors in predicting of OM in menopausal BC women and put forward the latest suggestions on their clinical application.

AIM: To study functional brain abnormalities in patients with eye trauma (ET) and to discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms of ET. METHODS: Totally 31 ET patients and 31 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. The age, gender, and educational background characteristics of the two groups were similar. After functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanning, the subjects' spontaneous brain activity was evaluated with the functional connectivity (FC) method. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to classify the data. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to explore the relationship between FC values in specific brain regions and clinical behaviors in patients with ET. RESULTS: Significantly increased FC between several regions was identified including the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) and left hippocampus formations (HF), the MPFC and left inferior parietal lobule (IPL), the left IPL and left medial temporal lobe (MTL), the left IPL and right MTL, and the right IPL and left MTL. No decreased region-to-region connectivity was detected in default mode network (DMN) sub-regions in patients with ET. Compared with HCs, ET patients exhibited significantly increased FC between several paired DMN regions, as follows: posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) and right HF (HF.R, t=2.196, P=0.032), right inferior parietal cortices (IPC.R) and left MTL (MTL.L, t=2.243, P=0.029), and right MTL (MTL.R) and HF.R (t=2.236, P=0.029). CONCLUSION: FC values in multiple brain regions of ET patients are abnormal, suggesting that these brain regions in ET patients may be dysfunctional, which may help to reveal the pathophysiological mechanisms of ET.

Abstract Acute pancreatitis, a common exocrine inflammatory disease affecting the pancreas, is characterized by intense abdominal pain and multiple organ dysfunction. However, the alterations in retinal blood vessels among individuals with acute pancreatitis remain poorly understood. This study employed optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to examine the superficial and deep retinal blood vessels in patients with pancreatitis. Sixteen patients diagnosed with pancreatitis (32 eyes) and 16 healthy controls (32 eyes) were recruited from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University for participation in the study. Various ophthalmic parameters, such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and OCTA image for retina consisting of the superficial retinal layer (SRL) and the deep retinal layer (DRL), were recorded for each eye. The study observed the superficial and deep retinal microvascular ring (MIR), macrovascular ring (MAR), and total microvessels (TMI) were observed. Changes in retinal vascular density in the macula through annular partitioning (C1–C6), hemispheric quadrant partitioning (SR, SL, IL, and IR), and early diabetic retinopathy treatment studies (ETDRS) partitioning methods (R, S, L, and I). Correlation analysis was employed to investigate the relationship between retinal capillary density and clinical indicators. Our study revealed that in the superficial retinal layer, the vascular density of TMI, MIR, MAR, SR, IR, S, C2, C3 regions were significantly decreased in patients group compared with the normal group. For the deep retinal layer, the vascular density of MIR, SR, S, C1, C2 regions also reduced in patient group. The ROC analysis demonstrated that OCTA possesses significant diagnostic performance for pancreatitis. In conclusion, patients with pancreatitis may have retinal microvascular dysfunction, and OCTA can be a valuable tool for detecting alterations in ocular microcirculation in pancreatitis patients in clinical practice.

Abstract It is a time-consuming and costly process to develop affordable and high-performance organic photovoltaic materials. Computational methods are essential for accelerating the material discovery process by predicting power conversion efficiencies (PCE). In this study, we propose a deep learning-based framework (DeepAcceptor) to design and discover highly efficient small molecule acceptor materials. Specifically, an experimental dataset is constructed by collecting acceptor data from publications. Then, a deep learning-based model is customized to predict PCEs by applying graph representation learning to Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), with the atom, bond, and connection information in acceptor molecular structures as the input (abcBERT). The computational dataset derived from density functional theory (DFT) calculations and the experimental dataset from literature are used to pre-train and fine-tune the model, respectively. The abcBERT model outperforms other state-of-the-art models for the PCE prediction with MAE = 1.78 and R 2 = 0.67 on the test set. A molecular generation and screening process is built to find new high-performance acceptors for PM6. Three discovered candidates are further validated by experiment, and the best PCE reaches 14.61%. The released user-friendly interface of DeepAcceptor greatly boosts the accessibility and efficiency of designing and discovering high-performance acceptors. Altogether, the DeepAcceptor framework with abcBERT is promising to predict the PCE and accelerate the discovery of high-performance acceptor materials.

Abstract Background Coral diseases are significant drivers of global coral reef degradation, with pathogens dominated by Vibrio coralliilyticus playing a prominent role in the development of coral diseases. Coral phenotype, symbiotic microbial communities, and host transcriptional regulation have been well-established as factors involved in determining coral disease resistance, but the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Methods This study employs high-throughput sequencing to analyse the symbiotic microbial and transcriptional response of the hosts in order to evaluate the disease resistance of Acropora valida and Turbinaria peltata exposed to Vibrio coralliilyticus. Results A. valida exhibited pronounced bleaching and tissue loss within 7 h of pathogen infection, whereas T. peltata showed no signs of disease throughout the experiment. Microbial diversity analyses revealed that T. peltata had a more flexible microbial community and a higher relative abundance of potential beneficial bacteria compared to A. valida. Although Vibrio inoculation resulted in a more significant decrease in the Symbiodiniaceae density of A. valida compared to that of T. peltata, it did not lead to recombination of the coral host and Symbiodiniaceae in either coral species. RNA-seq analysis revealed that the interspecific differences in the transcriptional regulation of hosts after Vibrio inoculation. Differentially expressed genes in A. valida were mainly enriched in the pathways associated with energy supply and immune response, such as G protein-coupled receptor signaling, toll-like receptor signaling, regulation of TOR signaling, while these genes in T. peltata were mainly involved in the pathway related to immune homeostasis and ion transport, such as JAK-STAT signaling pathway and regulation of ion transport. Conclusions Pathogenic challenges elicit different microbial and transcriptional shifts across coral species. This study offers novel insights into molecular mechanisms of coral resistance to disease.

IntroductionThis study evaluates the efficacy of uncrosslinked porcine collagen coated vascular grafts (UPCCVG) in facilitating neointima formation and endothelialization.MethodsPrior to coating, the uncrosslinked porcine collagen underwent comprehensive characterization employing SDS-PAGE, image analysis, circular dichroism and immunogenicity. The PET substrate of the vascular graft was coated with collagen solution utilizing the dip-coating method. Water permeability, blood leakage resistance, radial compliance, hemolysis, cytotoxicity and cell proliferation of UPCCVG in vitro were studied. Subsequent in vivo evaluation involved the implantation of UPCCVG as a substitute for the porcine abdominal aorta. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was employed to evaluate UPCCVG patency post-implantation, while histology, immunohistochemistry, and scanning electron microscopy were utilized to assess neointima formation and endothelialization. The in vivo thrombosis of UPCCVG was analyzed simultaneously to further characterize its blood compatibility.ResultsThe uncrosslinked collagen demonstrated high purity, maintaining its triple helix structure and molecular weight akin to the type I bovine collagen standard substrate, indicative of preserved biological activity and low immunogenicity. UPCCVG exhibited water permeability, blood leakage resistance, radial compliance and blood compatibility comparable to commercial grafts. DSA revealed satisfactory patency of UPCCVG without evidence of stenosis or swelling at the 3-week post-implantation mark. Histological analysis illustrated well-developed neointima with appropriate thickness and controlled proliferation. Immunohistochemistry confirmed the presence of endothelial cells (VWF positive) and smooth muscle cells (α-SMA positive) within the neointima, indicating successful endothelialization. Moreover, the morphology of the neointima surface closely resembled that of the natural artery tunica intima, oriented along the direction of blood flow.DiscussionUPCCVG, composed of uncrosslinked porcine collagen, demonstrates promising potential in fostering neointima formation and endothelialization while mitigating intimal hyperplasia. This biocompatible uncrosslinked porcine collagen merits further investigation for its clinical applications in vascular reconstruction.

Abstract Collaborative innovation between hospitals and biomedical enterprises is crucial for ensuring breakthroughs in their development. This study explores the structural characteristics and examines the main roles of associated key actors of collaborative innovation between hospitals and biomedical enterprises in China. Using the jointly owned patent data within the country’s healthcare industry, a decade-long collaborative innovation network between hospitals and biomedical enterprises in China was established and analyzed through social network analysis. The results revealed that the overall levels of collaborative innovation network density, collaborative frequency, and network connectivity were significantly low, especially in less-developed regions. In terms of actors with higher degree centrality, hospitals accounted for the majority, whereas a biomedical enterprise in Shenzhen had the highest degree centrality. Organizations in underdeveloped and northwest regions and small players were more likely to implement collaborative innovation. In conclusion, a collaborative innovation network between hospitals and biomedical enterprises in China demonstrated high dispersion and poor development levels. Stimulating organizations’ initiatives for collaborative innovation may enhance quality and quantity of such innovation. Policy support and economic investments, strategic collaborative help, and resource and partnership optimization, especially for small players and in less-developed and northwest regions, should be encouraged to enhance collaborative innovation between hospitals and the biomedical industry in China and other similar countries or regions.

Phascolosoma esculenta is an economically species inhabiting a soft substrate of mud in the intertidal zone, which is bad breathability, especially during the prolonged heavy rainstorms, that will bring hypoxia environment to P. esculenta. In this study, the negative impact of hypoxia on P. esculenta was firstly studied. The results showed that there were no P. esculenta died post 7 days hypoxia. However, P. esculenta surface became black after hypoxia stress and changed to brown after reoxygenation. The body cavity fluid’s total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) showed notable increases at 48 h, 120 h, and 168 h post hypoxia stress and returned to the control level after reoxygenation. The contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) increased significantly at 24 h, 48 h, and 96 h but decreased substantially after reoxygenation. The activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) increased during the hypoxia but decreased significantly after reoxygenation. Transcriptomic analysis was performed and a total of 55.26 GB of clean data were collected, 362 DEGs were obtained based on FPKM values, including 77 DEGs between control and hypoxia groups, 48 DEGs between control and reoxygenation groups, and 237 DEGs between hypoxia and reoxygenation groups. DEGs are enriched in pathways associated with immune system, carbon metabolism, apoptosis, ribosome and ion transport. These data enriched the molecular mechanism of invertebrate hypoxia tolerance and provided genetic material reference for future breeding of hypoxia-tolerant P. esculenta and other aquatic species.

AbstractObjective: To evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of ultrasound-guided percutaneous thermal ablation (TA) for treating benign parotid tumors.Methods: Patients with benign parotid tumors who underwent ultrasound-guided microwave ablation (MWA) or radiofrequency ablation (RFA) between January 2020 and March 2023 were included in this retrospective study. Change in tumor size (maximum diameter, tumor volume(V), volume reduction rate (VRR)) and cosmetic score (CS) were evaluated during a one-year follow-up period. We also recorded the incidence of any complications associated with TA.Results: A total of 23 patients (13 males and 10 females; median age 65 years, range 5–91 years) were included. The mean VRR at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after TA was 37.03%±10.23%, 56.52%±8.76%, 82.28%±7.89%, and 89.39%±6.45%, respectively. Mean CS also changed from 3.39 ± 0.66 to 1.75 ± 0.93 (p

Objective Explainable machine learning (XAI) was introduced in this study to improve the interpretability, explainability and transparency of the modelling results. The survex package in R was used to interpret and compare two survival models – the Cox proportional hazards regression (coxph) model and the random survival forest (rfsrc) model – and to estimate overall survival (OS) and its determinants in heart failure (HF) patients using these models. Methods We selected 1159 HF patients hospitalised at the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University. First, the performance of the two models was investigated using the C-index, the integrated C/D AUC, and the integrated Brier score. Second, a global explanation of the whole cohort was carried out using the time-dependent variable importance and the partial dependence survival profile. Finally, the SurvSHAP(t) and SurvLIME plots and the ceteris paribus survival profile were used to obtain a local explanation for each patient. Results By comparing the C-index, the C/D AUC, and the Brier score, this study showed that the model performance of rfsrc was better than coxph. The global explanation of the whole cohort suggests that the C-reactive protein, lg BNP (brain natriuretic peptide), estimated glomerular filtration rate, albumin, age and blood chloride were significant unfavourable predictors of OS in HF patients in both the cxoph and the rfsrc models. By including individual patients in the model, we can provide a local explanation for each patient, which guides the clinician in individualising the patient's treatment. Conclusion By comparison, we conclude that the model performance of rfsrc is better than that of coxph. These two predictive models, which address not only the whole population but also selected patients, can help clinicians personalise the treatment of each HF patient according to his or her specific situation.

Abstract An improved model predictive control (MPC) with Luenberger state observer is proposed in this article for LC‐coupling hybrid active power filter (LC‐HAPF). Traditionally, the implementation of MPC for LC‐HAPF requires additional sensors to measure coupling capacitor voltage, thereby increases the system cost and reduces reliability. The existence of one‐step sampling delay in practice will also affect the final compensation performance. To relax these problems, both continuous and discrete models are deduced first. Then, the Luenberger observer is utilized based on the discrete model to mitigate the steady‐state error without additional sensors. In addition, the sampling delay compensation is provided by improving the prediction horizon. Finally, the effectiveness of the improved MPC for LC‐HAPF is verified by experiment results, indicating that the proposed method has fast dynamic response and low steady‐state error.

Background: : The number of individuals undergoing maintenance haemodialysis has continued to increase in recent years. This treatment method can lead to social isolation, which has a significant impact on an individual's health. Unfortunately, research on this issue is insufficient, and no effective interventions have been developed. Moreover, existing research lacks attention to and understanding of patient aspirations—a critical area that warrants further exploration. Objectives: : We aimed to reveal the natural coping trajectory of individuals undergoing maintenance haemodialysis in the context of social isolation to provide a useful reference for further research and the development of effective interventions. Design: : This was a descriptive qualitative study. Setting (s): This study was conducted at a haemodialysis centre in a provincial capital city of northern China. Participants: Using maximum variant and purposive sampling, we recruited 15 patients undergoing maintenance haemodialysis. Methods: : The interviews were transcribed verbatim, and data were analysed using deductive content analysis. Results: Three themes were identified: (a) prerequisites for coping with social isolation; (b) maintaining the bond between coping and social isolation; and (c) the results of coping with social isolation. These themes revealed the natural trajectory of individuals undergoing maintenance haemodialysis in dealing with social isolation. Conclusion: : We interpreted the findings to mean that it was necessary to establish a three-way linkage among family, hospitals, and society to develop multicomponent and multilevel intervention measures. Abstract Myocardial infarction is defined as a sudden decrease or interruption in blood flow to the coronary arteries, causing ischemic necrosis of the corresponding cardiomyocytes. It is unclear whether systemic macrovascular alterations are associated with retinal microvascular changes. This study utilized optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to compare variations in conjunctival vascular density and fundus retinal vessel density between patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and healthy controls. This study recruited 16 patients (32 eyes) with MI and 16 healthy controls (32 eyes). The superficial retinal layer (SRL), deep retinal layer (DRL) and conjunctival capillary plexus in each eye were evaluated by OCTA. Parameters measured included the density of the temporal conjunctival capillary, retinal microvascular (MIR) and macrovascular (MAR) alterations and total MIR (TMI). The microvascular density of each retinal region was evaluated by the hemisphere segmentation (SR, SL, IL, and IR), annular partition (C1, C2, C3, C4, C5 and C6), and modified early treatment of diabetic retinopathy study (R, S, L, and I) methods. Abstract Background Clinical nurses are susceptible to compassion fatigue when exposed to various types of traumatic events in patients for extended periods of time. However, the developmental process, staging, and psychological responses distinct to each stage of compassion fatigue in nurses are not fully clarified. This study aimed to explore the processes of compassion fatigue and the psychological experiences specific to each phase of compassion fatigue among clinical nurses. Methods Charmaz’s Constructivist Grounded Theory methodology was used in this qualitative research. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 clinical nurses with varying degrees of compassion fatigue from December 2020 to January 2021. Interview data were analyzed using grounded theory processes. Results The data were categorized into five separate categories and 22 sub-categories. This study found that the process of compassion fatigue is dynamic and cumulative, which was classified into five phases: compassion experience period, compassion decrement period, compassion discomfort period, compassion distress period, and compassion fatigue period. Conclusion Clinical nurses who experience compassion fatigue may go through five stages that are stage-specific and predictable. The findings can shed light on local and global applications to better understand the problem of nurses’ compassion fatigue. The interventions for addressing compassion fatigue in clinical nurses should be stage-specific, targeted, and individualized.

AIM: To study retinal microvascular and microstructural alterations in meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) in severely obese population using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: Twelve MGD patients with severely obese population (PAT group; 24 eyes) and 12 healthy controls (HC group; 24 eyes) were recruited. OCTA images were segmented into five [superior (S), nasal (N), inferior (I), temporal (T), and central foveal (C)] or nine [inner superior (IS), outer superior (OS), inner nasal (IN), outer nasal (ON), inner inferior (II), outer inferior (OI), inner temporal (IT), outer temporal (OT), and C] subregions. The superficial vessel density (SVD), retinal thickness (RT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ) parameters, and retinal volume were measured. RESULTS: Visual acuity was significantly different between two groups (0.8±0.17 in PAT group vs 0.2±0.06 in HC group). SVD was significantly lower in PATs in N, T, OS, IN, OT, and ON. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for T was 0.961 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.908 to 1.000], for OS was 0.962 (95%CI: 0.915 to 1.000). RT was significantly lower in PATs in IS, OS, OI, OT, ON, IT, IN, and II. AUC for OT was 0.935 (95%CI: 0.870 to 0.999), for IS was 0.915 (95% CI: 0.838 to 0.992). Angiography results showed significantly lower area and perimeter of FAZ, SVD of the inner retina and both retinal volume and the average volume thickness in the PAT group. CONCLUSION: Vision may be affected in patients with MGD due to changes in retinal microvessels and microstructures. These changes detected by OCTA may be a potential marker for diagnosing MGD in severe obesity.

AbstractObjective The exploration of non-invasive biomarkers for assessing tumor response is critical to optimize treatment decisions. In this study, we aimed at determining the potential role of RAI14 in the early diagnosis and evaluation of chemotherapy efficacy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).Methods We recruited 116 patients newly diagnosed with breast cancer, 30 patients with benign breast disease and 30 healthy controls. In addition, 57 TNBC patients were collected in serum at different time points (C0, C2 and C4) for chemotherapy monitoring. The expression of serum RAI14 and CA15-3 were quantified by Elisa and electrochemiluminescence assay, respectively. Then we compared the performances of markers with the chemotherapy efficacy assessed by imaging.Results RAI14 is significantly overexpressed in TNBC and is linked to adverse clinicopathological features such as tumor burden, CA15-3 levels and the ER, PR, and HER2 status of the patients. ROC curve analysis showed that RAI14 improves the diagnostic performance for CA15-3(AUCRAI14 = 0.934 vs. AUCCA15-3 = 0.836), especially embodied in early-stage breast cancer diagnosis and patients with CA15-3 negativity. Furthermore, RAI14 behaves well in reproducing treatment response which was consistent with clinical Imaging assessment.Conclusions Recent studies showed that RAI14 has a complementary effect to CA15-3 and a test combining the two parameters can improve the detection rate of early triple-negative breast cancer. At the same time, RAI14 plays a more important role in chemotherapy monitoring than CA15-3 as the change in its concentration is in line with the tumor volume variation. Taken together, RAI14 is a reliable novel marker in the early diagnosis and chemotherapy monitoring of triple-negative breast cancer.

Focal species play a crucial role in planning ecological networks (ENs). Despite the finding that ENs designed for a specific focal species can yield benefits for associated communities, current practices of applying individual focal species have faced criticism for oversimplifying intricate ecosystems. Besides, the aggregation of ENs for individual species has been demonstrated as ineffective and costly. To improve cost-effectiveness, species with similar habitat preferences are typically conserved using shared strategies. Thus, drawing from the habitat preference of wading birds for blue and green spaces, we hypothesized that an EN for wading birds may benefit co-existing water and forest birds that prefer blue or green spaces. To validate this hypothesis, we conducted our study in the Yangtze River Delta’s Ecological Green Integration Demonstration Zone. We simulated six scenarios S1-S6 to compare the cost-effectiveness of focal species networks, respectively for water, forest, and wading birds in the S2-S4, with the aggregate networks in the S5-S6. During ENs’ construction, we employed the InVEST Habitat Quality model, MSPA, MCR model, and Linkage Mapper Tools. Furthermore, we selected the most cost-effective EN by calculating six ENs’ connectivity-cost ratio (CCr index) and ranked the conservation priority for its sources and corridors. The results showed that the EN4 ranked highest in the CCr index and displayed a high conservation efficiency for all bird species. 93.41% of primary ES4 and 42.46% of secondary ES4 overlapped with the ecological conservation redline and the permanent basic farmland and could be well protected under current statutory planning. Our findings confirm that wading birds are the ideal focal species in EN planning for broader bird conservation in the context of the Yangtze River Delta. The constructed regional EN could contribute to establishing a linkage with the supra-regional EN and the world’s major bird migration flyway. Moreover, our cost-effective approach to bird conservation could provide new insights for targeting focal species from the perspective of habitat preference in multi-species EN planning.

Surface treatment processes such as mass finishing play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of machined parts across industries. However, accurate measurement of the velocity field of granular media in mass finishing presents significant challenges. Existing measurement methods suffer from issues such as complex and expensive equipment, limited to single-point measurements, interference with the flow field, and lack of universality in different scenarios. This study addresses these issues by proposing a single-camera-based method with deep learning to measure the three-dimensional velocity field of granular flow. We constructed a complete measurement system and analyzed the accuracy and performance of the proposed method by comparing the measurement results with those of the traditional DIC algorithm. The results show that the proposed method is very accurate in measuring spatial displacement, with an average error of less than 0.07 mm and a calculation speed that is 1291.67% of the traditional DIC algorithm under the same conditions. Additionally, experiments in a bowl-type vibratory finishing machine demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method in capturing the three-dimensional flow of granular media. This research not only proposed a novel method for three-dimensional reconstruction and velocity field measurement using a single-color camera, but also demonstrated a way to combine deep learning with traditional optical techniques. It is of great significance to introduce deep learning to improve traditional optical techniques and apply them to practical engineering measurements.

Urban–rural fringes (URFs) are crucial for biodiversity yet often neglected in conservation efforts. This study refines URF habitat evaluation and integrates it into a coordinated ecological network (EN) and territorial planning framework. Using Qingpu District, Shanghai as a case study, we defined its URF via k-means clustering of night-time light data and applied the InVEST model, MSPA, Integrated Habitat Value, Patch Importance, and Betweenness Centrality analyses to identify high-value URF habitats. Furthermore, we constructed the EN using circuit theory and evaluated the impact of URF sources on network connectivity and construction costs. Our findings reveal that integrating URF sources increased connectivity indices significantly (α by 127.18%, β by 47.00%, and γ by 33.4%) and decreased construction costs (CR index by 0.07). Despite these benefits, under China’s “Three Zones and Three Lines” policy, 78.18% of Qingpu’s URF sources remain unprotected, with 56.78% at risk of conversion to construction land. Our study proposes a comprehensive evaluation system for URF habitats and strategic recommendations for their incorporation into regional ENs, thus informing policy making and planning for more inclusive ecological conservation.

Abstract This study associated the liver proton density fat fraction (PDFF), measured by multi-echo Dixon (ME-Dixon) and breath-hold single-voxel high-speed T2-corrected multi-echo 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (HISTO) at 1.5 T, with serum biomarkers and liver fibrosis stages. This prospective study enrolled 75 patients suspected of liver fibrosis and scheduled for liver biopsy and 23 healthy participants with normal liver function. The participant underwent ME-Dixon and HISTO scanning. The agreement of PDFF measured by ME-Dixon (PDFF-D) and HISTO (PDFF-H) were compared. Correlations between PDFF and serum fat biomarkers (total cholesterol, triglyceride, and high- and low-density lipoproteins) and the liver fibrosis stages were assessed. We aimed to evaluate the effects of febuxostat on periodontal inflammation and bone loss in rats with periodontitis by regulating nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB). Sixty rats were randomly divided into sham (Group S), periodontitis model (Group P), febuxostat (Group F), minocycline hydrochloride (Group M), NF-κB p65 inhibitor PDTC (Group C), and febuxostat + NF-κB p65 inhibitor PDTC (Group F+C) groups (n=10). The levels of serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-17 (IL-17), and IL-10 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The pathological changes in periodontal tissues were detected by hematoxylin-eosin staining, and bone loss was detected using micro-CT. Phascolosoma esculenta is an economically species inhabiting the intertidal zone and is farmed with high output. During artificial propagation, P. esculenta underwent mass death after torrential rain due to low salinity. In this paper, the effect of salinity on P. esculenta was studied for the first time. The results showed that P. esculenta died when exposed to water of 10‰ salinity, and their body lengths were about two times larger than when exposed to salinity of 25‰. The groups exposed to 10‰ salinity underwent severe necrosis. The activity of T-SOD and T-AOC in nephridial tissues increased between 3 and 12 h, but not at 9 h, T-SOD was highest in the control group and lowest in the death group, and T-AOC was highest in the death group and lowest in the survivor group. The concentration of MDA increased from 3 to 9 h and then decreased, and was highest in the death group and lowest in the control group. 35,053 unique genes, including 15,445 new genes, were acquired based on the 61.63 Gb Clean RNA-Seq Data. 27773 average alternative splicing (AS) events were found in the death group, which was 83.74% and 83.54% of that in the control and survivor group, respectively. Additionally, 1596 significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were observed, which were classified into several functional categories, including genes involved in ion transporters, cation transport, RNA processing, immune response etc. The study had also found a significant number of genes involved in the pathways, including Mineral absorption, AMPK signaling pathway, Oxidative phosphorylation, and Phagosome pathways, such as Hsp70, Hsp20, Gst, solute carrier family genes, calcium channel regulatory activity genes, and pre-rRNA processing proteins. Overall, these results provide numerous candidate genes for future investigations and valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying the culture of P. esculenta in lower salinity.

Background: Although gastric adenocarcinoma (GA) related ocular metastasis (OM) is rare, its occurrence indicates a more severe disease. We aimed to utilize machine learning (ML) to analyze the risk factors of GA-related OM and predict its risks. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. The clinical data of 3532 GA patients were collected and randomly classified into training and validation sets in a ratio of 7:3. Those with or without OM were classified into OM and non-OM (NOM) groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator were conducted. We integrated the variables identified through feature importance ranking and further refined the selection process using forward sequential feature selection based on random forest (RF) algorithm before incorporating them into the ML model. We applied six ML algorithms to construct the predictive GA model. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve indicated the model's predictive ability. Also, we established a network risk calculator based on the best performance model. We used Shapley additive interpretation (SHAP) to identify risk factors and to confirm the interpretability of the black box model. We have de-identified all patient details. Results: The ML model, consisting of 13 variables, achieved an optimal predictive performance using the gradient boosting machine (GBM) model, with an impressive area under the curve (AUC) of 0.997 in the test set. Utilizing the SHAP method, we identified crucial factors for OM in GA patients, including LDL, CA724, CEA, AFP, CA125, Hb, CA153, and Ca 2+ . Additionally, we validated the model's reliability through an analysis of two patient cases and developed a functional online web prediction calculator based on the GBM model. Conclusion: We used the ML method to establish a risk prediction model for GA-related OM and showed that GBM performed best among the six ML models. The model may identify patients with GA-related OM to provide early and timely treatment.

With the rapid development of a social economy, the yearly increase in air conditioning load in the winter and summer seasons may bring serious challenges to the safe and economic operation of the power grid during the peak period of electricity consumption. So, how we reasonably adjust the set temperature of air conditioning so as to cut down the load during peak periods is very important. In this paper, considering the thermal inertia of air-conditioned buildings and the adaptability of human thermal comfort to temperature changes, the air conditioning load is regarded as virtual energy storage, the air conditioning temperature adjustment range for different users is determined based on the adaptive thermal comfort model of different geographic locations and climatic conditions, and a compensation mechanism is set up based on air conditioning users’ level of participation. Then, an optimal scheduling strategy for a microgrid was constructed with the objectives of user satisfaction, carbon emissions, and microgrid operation benefits, as well as regulating the users’ electricity consumption behavior, and the strategy was solved by using a multi-objective JAYA algorithm. Finally, winter and summer are used as case studies to analyze the results, which demonstrate that regulating the virtual energy storage of air conditioning can effectively improve the economy and environmental friendliness of a microgrid operation and reduce the cost of electricity consumption for the users, taking into account the comfort of the users.

The evaluation of soil particle composition and salt dynamics is essential for promoting the sustainable development of oasis agriculture in arid regions under long-term mulched drip irrigation (MDI). In this study, we employed the space-for-time substitution method to investigate the long-term effects of MDI on soil particle composition and salinity. Additionally, seven fields, with MDI durations ranging from 0 to 16 years, were selected to represent the primary successional sequence though time in Northwest China. Soil samples were collected from three soil depths (0–30 cm, 30–60 cm, and 60–100 cm) and then analyzed in the laboratory for soil particle composition and salt content. Our findings demonstrated that influenced by the depth of mechanical cultivation and the maximum wetting front depth, the long-term application of MDI significantly altered both the structure of soil layers and the composition of soil particles after 8 years. Soil sand content and soil salinity gradually decreased, whereas the content of soil silt and clay increased with increasing MDI duration throughout 0–100 cm soil depth. Furthermore, the rates of soil desalination stabilized after 10 years of MDI application, with desalination levels exceeding 90% in the 0–100 cm soil layer. Additionally, the soil mass fractal dimension (Dm) exhibited an upward trend across 0–100 cm soil depth. The changes in soil particle composition indirectly influenced the variations in Dm and salt content. Our study demonstrated that long-term application of MDI effectively mitigated soil salinity, changed soil structure, and ultimately enhanced soil quality and cotton yield.

Abstract Identifying conservation units is crucial for the effective conservation of threatened species. Previous cases are almost exclusively based on large‐scale but coarse sampling for genetic structure analyses. Significant genetic structure can occur within a small range, and thus multiple conservation units may exist in narrowly distributed plants. However, small‐scale genetic structure is often overlooked in conservation planning especially for wind‐pollinated and wind‐dispersed trees, largely due to the absence of dense and elaborate sampling. In this study, we focused on a representative endangered relict plant, Metasequoia glyptostroboides. Using both nuclear microsatellites (nSSRs) and chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) fragments, we sampled across the narrow distribution range of this species and determined its conservation units by exploring its genetic structure and historical demography. cpDNA haplotypes were classified into two groups, but mixed in space, suggesting that the existent wild trees of M. glyptostroboides cannot be divided into different evolutionarily significant units. However, using nSSRs, we detected strong spatial genetic structure, with significant genetic differentiation and weak gene flow between the samples in the east of the species' distribution range and other samples. The divergence between the two nSSR groups was dated to the Last Glacial Maximum (c. 19.6 kya), suggesting that such spatial genetic structure has been maintained for a long term. Therefore, these two nSSR groups should be considered as different conservation units, that is, management units, to protect intergroup genetic variations, which is likely to be the outputs of local adaptation. Our findings highlight the necessity to reveal small‐scale genetic structure and population demography to improve the conservation strategies of evolutionary potential of endangered plants.

Due to the lack of perfect regulations and standards in civilian drones field, drones sometimes fly illegally. When illegally flying drones invade airports, which causes flights to be diverted and even airports to be paralyzed. In order to protect the flight safety, drone countermeasure equipment is need to use for driving away illegally flying drones. But drone countermeasure equipment is a new active interference source. When it is used at or around airports, which may cause electromagnetic interference to the surveillance system, and it will not work correctly. Therefore, it is necessary to study protective distances of the surveillance system. In this paper, a method for analyzing the electromagnetic interference influence of drone countermeasure equipment on the surveillance system is proposed. Firstly the radiated field strength of drone countermeasure equipment is measured in an anechoic chamber, and then stray radiation field strengths at frequency bands of a secondary surveillance radar (SSR) and an automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) also are acquired. Meanwhile, test results are compared with protection requirements of electromagnetic environment of SSR and ADS-B. Moreover, electromagnetic interference effects of drone countermeasure equipment on SSR and ADS-B are analyzed according to the electromagnetic compatibility theory and protection ratios of SSR and ADS-B. At last, protective distances of SSR and ADS-B are proposed separately. The results can provide some technical supports for the safe use of drone countermeasure equipment at airports.

Abnormal motor speed caused by overload, eccentric load and bearing wear is one of the main fault manifestations of heavy-duty motor. On-line monitoring the speed in real time is of great significance for fault early warning and improving motor operating life. In this paper, a self-powered motor speed sensor based on a coaxial integrated triboelectric–electromagnetic hybrid nanogenerator is proposed. A modular magnet coupling is designed to synchronously transfer energy from the motor shaft to nanogenerator with opposite polarity magnet through non-mechanical contact, which is advantageous to reducing the noise interference induced by rigid connection. The nanogenerator structure is mainly composed of the rotator module including magnet and wear-resistant positive friction material of Polyamide-66 and the stator one fitted with carbon steel enhanced copper coil and negative friction material of PTFE. Especially, an innovative rotating lead structure consisting of a set of rolling and sliding metal balls is fabricated for the first time, which provides a unique solution for transmitting triboelectric charge on rotator. Moreover, the carbon steel column inset into coil hole increases the short-circuit current of electromagnetic generator by 35.2%. The electromagnetic current and triboelectric voltage are used to characterize motor speed in our design, and their sensitivity are 0.035 mA/rpm and 1.365 V/rpm in the range of 0-300 rpm, respectively. When they were conjointly analyzed, the linearity of sensor reaches 0.995, which is attractive and greatly enhances the accuracy using sensing signal to judge the abnormal state. Furthermore, maximum output power of the nanogenerator reaches 76.91 mW, which shows that the nanogenerator is Competent for self-powering the sensor and its controlling circuits. The experimentally results indicate that the proposed self-powered sensor provides a novel design concept for the measurement of rotation speed and exhibits immense potential in industrial detection and mechanical failure early warning.

For promoting the healthy and sustainable development of China′s marine breeding and mariculture industry, this paper summarized the development trend of foreign marine seed industry and the development status of China′s marine seed industry, analyzed the problems existing in the development of China′s marine seed industry, and put forward countermeasures and suggestions. The results showed that the developed countries had a deep accumulation of traditional breeding technology, basic research had accelerated industrial technological transformation, and multinational enterprises had accelerated the layout of global marine breeding. China′s marine seed industry had made progress in basic research, breeding technology system and industrial development foundation, but there were some problems such as insufficient supporting capacity of basic research, low efficiency of new variety research and development, low coverage of industrial improved varieties and lagging protection of marine germplasm resources. Therefore, the development of marine seed industry in China should strengthen the basic research, strengthen the research and development of breeding core technology, build an integrated system with enterprises as the main body, and improve the protection level of marine germplasm resources.

Abstract Whole tumor cells expressing a wide array of tumor antigens are considered as a highly promising source of antigens for cancer vaccines. However, simultaneously preserving the antigen diversity, improving immunogenicity, and eliminating the potential tumorigenic risk of whole tumor cells are highly challenging. Inspired by the recent progress in sulfate radical‐based environmental technology, herein, an advanced oxidation nanoprocessing (AONP) strategy is developed for boosting the immunogenicity of whole tumor cells. The AONP is based on the activation of peroxymonosulfate by ZIF‐67 nanocatalysts to produce SO4−∙ radicals continuously, leading to sustained oxidative damage to tumor cells and consequently extensive cell death. Importantly, AONP causes immunogenic apoptosis as evidenced by the release of a series of characteristic damage associated molecular patterns and at the same time maintains the integrity of cancer cells, which is critical to preserve the cellular components and thus maximize the diversity of antigens. Finally, the immunogenicity of AONP‐treated whole tumor cells is evaluated in a prophylactic vaccination model, demonstrating significantly delayed tumor growth and increased survival rate of live tumor‐cell‐challenged mice. It is expected that the developed AONP strategy would pave the way to develop effective personalized whole tumor cell vaccines in future.

Terpenes are the main class of secondary metabolites produced in response to pest and germ attacks. In maize (Zea mays L.), they are the essential components of the herbivore-induced plant volatile mixture, which functioned as a direct or indirect defense against pest and germ attacks. In this study, 43 maize terpene synthase gene (ZmTPS) family members were systematically identified and analyzed through the whole genomes of maize. Nine genes, including Zm00001d032230, Zm00001d045054, Zm00001d024486, Zm00001d004279, Zm00001d002351, Zm00001d002350, Zm00001d053916, Zm00001d015053, and Zm00001d015054, were isolated for their differential expression pattern in leaves after corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) bite. Additionally, six genes (Zm00001d045054, Zm00001d024486, Zm00001d002351, Zm00001d002350, Zm00001d015053, and Zm00001d015054) were significantly upregulated in response to corn borer bite. Among them, Zm00001d045054 was cloned. Heterologous expression and enzyme activity assays revealed that Zm00001d045054 functioned as d-limonene synthase. It was renamed ZmDLS. Further analysis demonstrated that its expression was upregulated in response to corn borer bites and Fusarium graminearum attacks. The mutant of ZmDLS downregulated the expressions of Zm00001d024486, Zm00001d002351, Zm00001d002350, Zm00001d015053, and Zm00001d015054. It was more attractive to corn borer bites and more susceptible to F. graminearum infection. The yeast one-hybrid assay and dual-luciferase assay showed that ZmMYB76 and ZmMYB101 could upregulate the expression of ZmDLS by binding to the promoter region. This study may provide a theoretical basis for the functional analysis and transcriptional regulation of terpene synthase genes in crops.

BackgroundPopulus deltoides is widely cultivated in China and produces a large number of pollen and poplar flocs from March to June per year. Previous studies have found that the pollen of P. deltoides contains allergens. However, studies on the ripening mechanism of pollen/poplar flocs and their common allergens are very limited.MethodsProteomics and metabolomics were used to study the changes of proteins and metabolites in pollen and poplar flocs of P. deltoides at different developmental stages. Allergenonline database was used to identify common allergens in pollen and poplar flocs at different developmental stages. Western blot (WB) was used to detect the biological activity of common allergens between mature pollen and poplar flocs.ResultsIn total, 1400 differently expressed proteins (DEPs) and 459 different metabolites (DMs) were identified from pollen and poplar flocs at different developmental stages. KEGG enrichment analysis showed that DEPs in pollen and poplar flocs were significantly enriched in ribosome and oxidative phosphorylation signaling pathways. The DMs in pollen are mainly involved in aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis and arginine biosynthesis, while the DMs in poplar flocs are mainly involved in glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism. Additionally, 72 common allergens were identified in pollen and poplar flocs at different developmental stages. WB showed that there were distinct binding bands between 70 and 17KD at the two groups of allergens.ConclusionsA multitude of proteins and metabolites are closely related to the ripening of pollen and poplar flocs of Populus deltoides, and they contain common allergens between mature pollen and poplar flocs.

The application of nitrogen fertilizer is crucial to the growth and biological nitrogen fixation of peanut, especially in the seedling stage where nodules have not yet formed. However, it is still uncertain how much initial nitrogen fertilizer should be applied to promote peanut root growth, nodule formation, and biological nitrogen fixation (BNF). There, a 2-year pot experiment was conducted using Huayu 22 (HY22, large-grain cultivar) and Huayu 39 (HY39, small-grain cultivar) as experimental materials to research the effects of different initial nitrogen fertilizer application rates on peanut root growth (root weight, root length, root mean diameter, root activity) and biological nitrogen fixation capacity (nodule number, nodule weight, biological nitrogen fixation, and nitrogen fixation potential per plant). N0, as control, four initial nitrogen fertilizer application rates were established: 15 kg·hm−2 (N15), 30 kg·hm−2 (N30), 45 kg·hm−2 (N45), and 60 kg·hm−2 (N60). The present results showed that the nodule number, nodule dry weight, nitrogenase activity, and biological nitrogen fixation of the HY22 cultivar under the N15 treatment were higher compared to those under other treatments over the two growing seasons. In addition, the cultivar of HY39 treated with the N15 treatment also increased the nitrogen fixation potential per plant and BNF relative to other treatments. Although the application of 60 kg·hm−2 nitrogen increased the root surface area and root volume, it decreased the nitrogenase activity, nodule dry weight, and nitrogen fixation potential per plant of HY22 and HY39 varieties in both growing seasons. Above all, an initial nitrogen application of 15 kg·hm−2 may be the optimal treatment for promoting peanut nodule formation and biological nitrogen fixation.

Objective To study the serological and molecular mechanism of a case of para-Bombay blood group caused by 236delG mutation of FUT1 gene and investigate the pedigree. Methods The ABO, H and Lewis antigens of the proband and her family members were detected serologically, and the ABO blood group was confirmed by gene testing. The FUT1 gene was amplified by PCR and then sequenced. The structure of FUT1 236delG enzyme of the proband was simulated in 3D by SwissModel online server. Results Serological results showed that the proband was rare para-Bombay ABhm, Le(a-b-). Her father and mother was type A and type B, respectively. The gene results showed that the proband was type AB, while her father and mother was type A and type B, respectively. The sequencing results showed that the proband had 236delG/551_552delAG gene mutation, while her mother had 236delG FUT1 gene mutation, and her father had 551_552delAG FUT1 gene mutation. The 3D simulation of the enzyme structure of the proband FUT1 236delG showed that the translated product was an alpha helix structure with no actual function. Conclusion The 236delG mutation is a new discovered mutation in FUT1 genotype, with 551_ 552delAG mutation(FUT1* 01N.06 genotype), which can result in the generation of para-Bombay blood group.

PurposeTo study the relationship between fundus alterations, including retinal thickness and microvascular changes, and dermatomyositis (DM) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).MethodsA total of 16 patients with DM (32 eyes) and 16 healthy controls (HCs; 32 eyes) participated in this study. Based on the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study subzones, OCTA fundus data were divided into different layers and regions for comparison.ResultsThe full retinal thickness (RT) in the inner nasal (IN), outer nasal (ON), inner inferior (II), and outer inferior (OI) regions of patients with DM was significantly lower than that of HCs (P < 0.001). The inner layer RT was also significantly lower in the IN, ON, II, and OI regions in patients with DM (P < 0.001). The outer layer RT was lower only in the II region in patients with DM compared to HCs (P < 0.001). The full RT of the II region was more sensitive to the pathological changes of disease since its ROC curve had an AUC of 0.9028, 95% CI: 0.8159–0.9898. Meanwhile, the superficial vessel density (SVD) of patients with DM was significantly lower in the IN, ON, II, and OI regions compared to HCs (P < 0.001). The AUC for region II was 0.9634 (95% CI: 0.9034–1.0), which indicated good diagnostic sensitivity.ConclusionOptical coherence tomography angiography can be used to evaluate relevant ocular lesions and monitor disease progression in patients with DM and interstitial lung disease.

Background: Sjögren’s syndrome (SjS) is a rare autoimmune disease, and despite our knowledge of SjS, we still lack effective treatments. Chloroquine drugs used to treat autoimmune diseases are still the primary medicine for SjS but increase the risk of chloroquine retinopathy. Objectives: The objective of this study is to use Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) images to monitor the microvascular changes in the fundus of SjS patients after hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) treatment and the feasibility of using them as diagnostic indicators. Design: This is a retrospective observational cohort study. Methods: Twelve healthy controls (HCs group; 24 eyes), 12 SjS patients (SjS group; 24 eyes), and 12 SjS patients treated with HCQ (HCQ group; 24 eyes) were recruited. Three-dimensional OCTA images of the retina were collected, and microvascular density was calculated for each eye. Abstract Background Previous studies have indicated that pain‐related diseases can result in significant functional alterations in the brain. However, differences in spontaneous brain activity in toothache (TA) patients remain unclear. Objective To investigate altered spontaneous brain activity in patients with TA and its underlying mechanisms using the resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging–fractional amplitude of low‐frequency fluctuation (rsfMRI–fALFF) technique. Methods Twelve patients with TA and 12 non‐toothache controls (NTCs) (matched for sex, age, and level of education) were enrolled. Spontaneous cerebral activity variations were investigated using the rsfMRI–fALFF technique in all individuals. The mean fALFF values of the TA patients and NTCs were classified using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The correlations between fALFF signals of distinct brain regions and clinical manifestations of TA patients were evaluated using Pearson's correlation analysis. Results TA patients showed lower fALFF values in the left superior frontal gyrus, medial; right superior frontal gyrus, dorsolateral; and left median cingulate and paracingulate gyri (LDCG) than the NTCs. Moreover, ROC curve analysis indicated that the area under the curve of each cerebral region studied had high accuracy. Abstract Background Gut and oral microbes form complex communities and play key roles in co-evolution with their hosts. However, little is understood about the bacterial community in lizards. Results In this study, we investigated the gut and oral bacterial communities in Japalura sensu lato from Sichuan Province, China, using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Results showed that Bacteroidota (36.5%) and Firmicutes (32.8%) were the main phyla in the gut, while Proteobacteria, Bacteroidota, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteriota were the dominant phyla in the oral cavity. 16 S rRNA sequencing analysis of fecal samples showed that: (1) Bacteroidota was the most abundant in Japalura sensu lato, which was different from the bacterial community of insectivorous animals; (2) Bacteroidota, Firmicutes, Actinobacteriota, Fusobacteriota, and Cyanobacteria were the most abundant phylum in Japalura sensu lato. (3) Proteobacteria was the dominant phylum in Japalura sensu lato and other domestic insectivorous lizards (Shinisaurus crocodilurus, Phrynocephalus vlangalii, and Takydromus septentrionalis); (4) Comparing with the bacterial community of Shinisaurus crocodilurus, Phrynocephalus vlangalii, Takydromus septentrionalis, Liolaemus parvus, L. ruibali, and Phymaturus williamsi, Desulfobacterota was uniquely present in the gut of Japalura sensu lato. 16 S rRNA sequencing of oral samples showed that Chloroflexi and Deinococcota phyla were enriched in the oral cavity, which may have a significant influence on living in extreme environments. Conclusions Thus, based on 16 S rRNA sequencing analysis of the community composition of the gut and oral microbiomes, this study firstly represents a foundation for understanding the gut and oral microbial ecology of Japalura sensu lato, and constitutes a detail account of the diversity of the microbiota inhabiting the gut and oral cavity of Japalura sensu lato. Further researches will continue to reveal how gut and oral microbial communities may be impacting the ecology and evolution of lizards.

Ecosystem water use efficiency (WUE) and ecosystem photosynthetic efficiency (EPE) are key indicators in studies of the carbon–water cycle in terrestrial ecosystems. Analyses of WUE and EPE can enhance our understanding of the relationship between ecosystem light use efficiency and WUE. Although several studies of individual indexes (i.e., either WUE or EPE) have been conducted, analyses of variation in both WUE and EPE, as well as their relationships, have rarely been conducted. Here, we analyzed spatial and temporal variation in WUE and EPE in Central Asia. Specifically, time trend analysis was conducted to characterize temporal and spatial changes in WUE and EPE in Central Asia from 2001 to 2020 at different altitudes and latitudes. Pearson correlation analysis was used to characterize the effects of precipitation and temperature on WUE and EPE. WUE decreased and EPE increased in Central Asia over the 20-year study period; this might have been due to interannual variations in precipitation and temperature. WUE was highest in August, and EPE was highest in June and July. Substantial spatial heterogeneity in WUE and EPE was observed; WUE was highly variable in Central Asia as well as in western and southern Central Asia. Major changes in EPE were observed in northern, eastern, and southern Central Asia. We also found that both WUE and EPE decreased with the increase in altitude. WUE was positively correlated with temperature and negatively correlated with precipitation, whereas EPE was positively correlated with both temperature and precipitation. The increase in photosynthetic efficiency might be one of the main factors contributing to increases in ecosystem productivity in arid environments. The temporal and spatial variation in WUE and EPE observed in our study will aid ecosystem research, providing a reliable theoretical basis for ecosystem research in areas with scarce large-scale data, integrated water resources management, and ecosystem restoration efforts. Our findings also enhance our understanding of the terrestrial carbon–water cycle and have implications for predicting ecosystem responses to climate change. The results of this study provide insights that will aid studies of the terrestrial carbon–water cycle under the background of climate change. It is of great significance to further study the carbon water cycle in the future.

With the existing pressure sensors, it is difficult to achieve the unification of wide pressure response range and high sensitivity. Furthermore, the preparation of pressure sensors with excellent performance for sleep health monitoring has become a research difficulty. In this paper, based on material and microstructure synergistic enhancement mechanism, a hybrid pressure sensor (HPS) integrating triboelectric pressure sensor (TPS) and piezoelectric pressure sensor (PPS) is proposed. For the TPS, a simple, low-cost, and structurally controllable microstructure preparation method is proposed in order to investigate the effect of carbon nano-onions (CNOs) and hierarchical composite microstructures on the electrical properties of CNOs@Ecoflex. The PPS is used to broaden the pressure response range and reduce the pressure detection limit of HPS. It has been experimentally demonstrated that the HPS has a high sensitivity of 2.46 V/104 Pa (50–600 kPa) and a wide response range of up to 1200 kPa. Moreover, the HPS has a low detection limit (10 kPa), a high stability (over 100,000 cycles), and a fast response time. The sleep monitoring system constructed based on HPS shows remarkable performance in breathing state recognition and sleeping posture supervisory control, which will exhibit enormous potential in areas such as sleep health monitoring and potential disease prediction.

Abstract Background Docetaxel (DTX) exhibits antitumor effects against breast cancer by stabilizing microtubules and increasing the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). DTX extravasation during infusion often causes skin injury. The present study aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of icaritin (ICT) on DTX‐induced skin injury. Methods The effects of ICT on the viability and apoptosis of HaCaT cells were measured by SRB assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Endogenous LC3 puncta and microtubules were determined by immunofluorescence. The number of mitochondria was measured by MitoTracker orange staining. ROS were determined by dihydroethidium staining. The expression of markers of ROS and autophagy were measured by western blotting. Chloroquine, compound D, and tamoxifen were employed as the inhibitor for autophagy and AMPK, estrogen receptors (ERs) modulator, respectively. Results DTX inhibited the viability and decreased apoptosis of HaCaT cells, which can be rescued by ICT. ICT decreased microtubule bundles, increased the number of mitochondria, and attenuated ROS of HaCaT cells induced by DTX. ICT blocks autophagy and the autophagic flux. Compound C or tamoxifen diminished the protection effects of ICT on DTX‐treated HaCaT cells. Conclusion ICT alleviates DTX‐induced skin injury by suppressing ROS, reducing microtubule bundles, and blocking autophagy via ERs. Our study indicated that ICT may be a potential candidate for DTX‐induced skin injury.
