Abstract Human noroviruses (HuNoVs) are a leading cause of acute viral gastroenteritis worldwide. Infectious outbreaks due to recombinant NoV genotype called GII.P16-GII.2 have been frequently reported since 2016. In this study, we expressed the major capsid protein VP1 from three GII.2 NoV strains using the recombinant baculovirus expression system. The assembly, histo-blood group antigen (HBGA)-binding patterns, and cross-blocking abilities of VP1 proteins were investigated. All the three NoV VP1 proteins successfully assembled into virus-like particles (VLPs). The HBGA-binding assay demonstrated a temporal binding pattern. The latest isolate bound to saliva samples of all blood types. Sequence alignment suggested that the observed gain in HBGA-binding ability was attributed to a limited number of amino acid mutations. Using chimeric VP1 proteins, we demonstrated that synergistic effects resulted in enhanced binding ability. Bile salts increased GII.2 VLP avidity for HBGAs except GII.2-2011/M1. In vitro blockade assay of salivary HBGA-VLP binding demonstrated the presence of cross-blocking effects among different strains. This study provides insight into the evolutionary binding characteristics and cross-blocking effects of GII.2 NoVs to facilitate the development of measures to control this type of viruses.

Abstract Simultaneously improving the activity and stability of catalysts for anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) remains a notable challenge. Here, we report a chromium-doped ruthenium dioxide with oxygen vacancies, termed Cr0.2Ru0.8O2-x, that drives OER with an overpotential of 170 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and operates stably over 2000 h in acidic media. Experimental and theoretical studies show that the synergy of Cr dopant and oxygen vacancy induces an unconventional dopant-mediated hydroxyl spillover mechanism. Such dynamic hydroxyl spillover from Cr dopant to Ru active site changes the rate-determining step from OOH* formation to O2 formation and thus greatly improves the OER performance. Moreover, the Cr dopant and oxygen vacancy also play a crucial role in stabilizing surface Ru and lattice oxygen in the Ru-O-Cr structural motif. When assembled into the anode of a practical PEMWE device, Cr0.2Ru0.8O2-x enables long-term durability of over 200 h at an ampere-level current density and 60 degrees centigrade.

In this study, CrNiTiMo high-entropy alloys films were prepared on 304 stainless steel and silicon wafer substrates by direct current magnetron sputtering and the effects of bias voltages (0 to −200 V) on microstructure, chemical composition, hardness and corrosion resistance were investigated. The results showed that the surface of the CrNiTiMo HEAs films exhibited equiaxed nanoparticles and are composed of uniformly distributed Cr, Ni, Ti, and Mo elements. Meanwhile, the films developed a columnar structure and formed a biphasic structure with body-centered cubic solid solution and amorphous phases. The roughness decreased and then increased with increasing bias voltage, and the film deposited at −50 V had the lowest roughness (1.02 ± 01 nm), which also had a maximum hardness of approximately 9.52 ± 0.2 GPa and a maximum elastic modulus of approximately 187 ± 6 GPa. In addition, all films showed better corrosion resistance compared to 304 stainless steel substrates at 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The corrosion current density (icorr) of the films decreased and then increased with increasing bias voltages and reached the lowest icorr of about 2.49 × 10−8A/cm2, indicating that the films deposited at a bias voltage of −50 V had the best corrosion resistance. These was attributed to the formation of the passivation films mainly composed of TiO2 and Cr2O3 and the improvement of the surface quality of the film as well as the refinement of the columnar structure and particles.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are closely related to the occurrence and development of many cancers, but the specific mechanism is not fully understood. It has been found that N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays a key role in RNA metabolism, but its function in MDSCs has yet to be revealed. In this study, we found that MDSCs in mice with colorectal cancer (CRC) have significantly elevated levels of m6A, while ALKBH5 expression is decreased. Overexpression of ALKBH5 can reduce the immunosuppressive function of MDSCs in vivo and in vitro, and attenuates the protumorigenic ability of MDSCs. Mechanism study found that the overexpression of ALKBH5 in MDSCs reduced the m6A modification level of Arg-1 mRNA, and then weakened the stability of Arg-1 mRNA and protein expression. These data suggest that the decreased expression of ALKBH5 in CRC tumor mice may promote the expression of Arg-1, enhance the immunosuppressor function of MDSCs, and promote tumor growth. These findings highlight that ALKBH5 may regulate the function of MDSCs in tumor-bearing mice and may be a new target for immunotherapy. This research provides a new perspective for our understanding of the role of MDSCs in cancer development, and also brings new hope for cancer treatment.

Abstract Lymph node metastasis (LNM) is a common invasive feature of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) associated with poor clinical outcomes. Through microarray profiling and bioinformatic analyses, we identified the circ-0044539-miR-29a-3p-VEGFA axis as a potential key factor in the progression of HCC LNM. In HCC cells and nude mice, circ-0044539 downregulation or miR-29a-3p upregulation was associated with small tumor size, PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway inactivation, and downregulation of the key LNM factors (HIF-1α and CXCR4). Furthermore, circ-0044539 was also responsible for exosomal miR-29a-3p secretion. Exosomal miR-29a-3p was then observed to migrate to the LNs and downregulate High-mobility group box transcription factor 1 (Hbp1) in Polymorphonuclear Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSCs), inducing the formation of a microenvironment suitable for tumor colonization. Overall, circ-0044539 promotes HCC cell LNM abilities and induces an immune-suppressive environment in LNs through exosomes, highlighting its potential as a target for HCC LNM and HCC immunotherapy.

Abstract Background Enhancing the antibacterial properties of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) dental resins is crucial in preventing secondary infections following dental procedures. Despite the necessity for such improvement, a universally applicable method for augmenting the antibacterial properties of PMMA without compromising its mechanical properties and cytotoxicity remains elusive. Consequently, this study aims to address the aforementioned challenges by developing and implementing a composite material known as zinc oxide/graphene oxide (ZnO/GO) nanocomposites, to modify the PMMA. Methods ZnO/GO nanocomposites were successfully synthesized by a one-step procedure and fully characterized by TEM, EDS, FTIR and XRD. Then the physical and mechanical properties of PMMA modified by ZnO/GO nanocomposites were evaluated through water absorption and solubility test, contact angle test, three-point bending tests, and compression test. Furthermore, the biological properties of the modified PMMA were evaluated by direct microscopic colony count method, crystal violet staining and CCK-8. Results The results revealed that ZnO/GO nanocomposites were successfully constructed. When the concentration of nanocomposites in PMMA was 0.2 wt. %, the flexural strength of the resin was increased by 23.4%, the compressive strength was increased by 31.1%, and the number of bacterial colonies was reduced by 60.33%. Meanwhile, It was found that the aging of the resin did not affect its antibacterial properties, and CCK-8 revealed that the modified PMMA had no cytotoxicity. Conclusion ZnO/GO nanocomposites effectively improved the antibacterial properties of PMMA. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the resin were improved by adding ZnO/GO nanocomposites at a lower range of concentrations.

Abstract Kitaev interactions, arising from the interplay of frustration and bond anisotropy, can lead to strong quantum fluctuations and, in an ideal case, to a quantum-spin-liquid state. However, in many nonideal materials, spurious non-Kitaev interactions typically promote a zigzag antiferromagnetic order in the d-orbital transition-metal compounds. Here, by combining neutron scattering with muon-spin rotation and relaxation techniques, we provide mechanism insights into the exotic properties of Na2Co2TeO6, a candidate material of the Kitaev model. Below T N, the zero-field muon-spin relaxation rate becomes almost constant (~0.45 μs−1). We attribute this temperature-independent relaxation rate to the strong quantum fluctuations, as well as to the frustrated Kitaev interactions. As the magnetic field increases, neutron scattering data indicate a broader spin-wave excitation at the K-point. Therefore, quantum fluctuations seem not only robust but are even enhanced by the applied magnetic field. Our findings provide valuable hints for understanding the onset of the quantum-spin-liquid state in Kitaev materials.

Abstract Background This study aimed to explore the potential associations between trans fatty acid (TFA) and α-klotho levels. Methods Datasets from the 2009–2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were analysed for this study. Multivariable linear regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analyses were performed to examine the relationships between plasma TFA and serum α-klotho levels. Results A total of 1,205 participants were included, with a geometric mean (GM) of 803.60 (95% CI: 787.45, 820.00) pg/mL for serum α-klotho levels. RCS analysis revealed L-shaped relationships between TFA and α-klotho levels. The inflection points for palmitelaidic acid (PA), vaccinic acid (VA), elaidic acid (EA), and total TFA levels were 4.55, 20.50, 18.70, and 46.40 µmol/L, respectively. Before reaching the inflection point, serum α-klotho levels were negatively correlated with plasma PA, VA, EA and total TFA levels, with β values (95% CI) of -0.15 (-0.24, -0.06), -0.16 (-0.23, -0.09), -0.14 (-0.22, -0.05) and − 0.19 (-0.27, -0.11), respectively. Abstract Carbon materials with defect-rich structure are highly demanded for various electrochemical scenes, but encountering a conflict with the deteriorative intrinsic conductivity. Herein, we build a highway-mediated nanoarchitecture that consists of the ordered pseudographitic nanodomains among disordered highly nitrogen-doped segments through a supramolecular self-assembly strategy. The “order-in-disorder” nanosheet-like carbon obtained at 800 °C (O/D NSLC-800) achieves a tradeoff with high defect degree (21.9 at% of doped nitrogen) and compensated electrical conductivity simultaneously. As expected, symmetrical O/D NSLC-800 electrodes exhibit superior capacitive deionization (CDI) performance, including brackish water desalination (≈82 mgNaCl g−1 at a cell voltage of 1.6 V in a 1000 mg L−1 NaCl solution) and reusage of actual refining circulating cooling water, outperforming most of the reported state-of-the-art CDI electrodes. The implanted pseudographitic nanodomains lower the resistance and activation energy of charge transfer, which motivates the synergy of hosting sites of multiple nitrogen configurations. Our findings shed light on electrically conductive nanoarchitecture design of defect-rich materials for advanced electrochemical applications based on molecular-level modulation.

Abstract Background Abnormalities in T cell activation play an important role in the pathogenesis of myocarditis, and persistent T cell responses can lead to autoimmunity and chronic cardiac inflammation, as well as even dilated cardiomyopathy. Although previous work has examined the role of T cells in myocarditis in animal models, the specific mechanism for human cardiomyocytes has not been investigated. Methods In this study, we constructed the human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) and established the T cell-mediated cardiac injury model by co-culturing with activated CD4 + T or CD8 + T cells that were isolated from peripheral mononuclear blood to elucidate the pathogenesis of myocardial cell injury caused by inflammation. Results By combination of quantitative proteomics with tissue and cell immunofluorescence examination, we established a proteome profile of inflammatory myocardia from hiPSC-CMs with obvious cardiomyocyte injury and increased levels of lactate dehydrogenase content, creatine kinase isoenzyme MB and cardiac troponin. A series of molecular dysfunctions of hiPSC-CMs was observed and indicated that CD4 + cells could produce direct cardiomyocyte injury by activating the NOD-like receptor signals pathway. Conclusions The data presented in our study established a proteome map of inflammatory myocardial based on hiPSC-CMs injury model. These results can provide guidance in the discovery of improved clinical treatments for myocarditis.

Abstract Stacking two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) materials in a layered bulk structure provides an appealing platform for the emergence of exotic physical properties. As a vdW crystal with exceptional plasticity, InSe offers the opportunity to explore various effects arising from the coupling of its peculiar mechanical behaviors and other physical properties. Here, we employ neutron scattering techniques to investigate the correlations of plastic interlayer slip, lattice anharmonicity, and thermal transport in InSe crystals. Not only are the interlayer slip direction and magnitude well captured by shifts in the Bragg reflections, but we also observe a deviation from the expected Debye behaviour in the heat capacity and lattice thermal conductivity. Combining the experimental data with first-principles calculations, we tentatively attribute the observed evidence of strong phonon-phonon interactions to a combination of a large acoustic-optical frequency resonance and a nesting effect. These findings correlate the macroscopic plastic slip and the microscopic lattice dynamics, providing insights into the mechano-thermo coupling and modulation in 2D vdW materials.

Abstract Background This study aims to evaluate the effect of various background reference regions on spinal 18F-FET PET imaging, with a focus on distinguishing between spinal tumors and myelitis. To enhance diagnostic accuracy, we investigated the pons and several other spinal cord area as potential references, given the challenges in interpreting spinal PET results. Results A retrospective analysis was conducted on 30 patients, 15 with cervical myelitis and 15 with cervical tumors, who underwent O-(2-[18F]-fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine (FET) PET/MR imaging. The stability of uptake across four regions, including the pons, C2, C2–C7, and T1–T3, was compared. The standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR) was then evaluated using various background regions, and their effectiveness in differentiating between spinal tumors and myelitis was compared. Additionally, we correlated the SUVR values derived from these regions with the Ki-67 proliferation index in tumor patients. The study found no significant difference in SUVmax (U = 110, p = 0.93) and SUVmean (U = 89, p = 0.35) values at lesion sites between myelitis and tumor patients. This study aimed to optimize the formula of plant-based almond yogurt to improve its quality and storage stability. Using sweet almonds as the main ingredient and adding conventional yogurt stabilizers such as emulsifiers and thickeners, plant-based almond yogurt was produced through lactic acid fermentation. The optimal stabilizer formula for yogurt was determined using principal component synthesis evaluation analysis and response surface optimization methodology, and the physical properties were characterized. The results showed that the optimal formula for plant-based almond yogurt was 0.4% tartaric acid mono-diglyceride, 2.0% hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate, and 0.1% glutamine transaminase, with a comprehensive score of 0.990. The predicted and verified comprehensive scores of plant-based yogurt were close. The quality and acceptability of the plant-based yogurt significantly improved after adjustment, and the micro-particles of the mixed plant-based almond yogurt (MPBAY) were fuller, the distribution of milk fat was more uniform, and the texture was richer. This study provides a certain research idea and scientific theoretical value reference for the development of plant-based yogurt and the study of plant protein gel aggregation systems.

Abstract Developing stable, high-performance chloride-ion storage electrodes is essential for energy storage and water purification application. Herein, a P, S co-doped porous hollow nanotube array, with a free ion diffusion pathway and highly active adsorption sites, on carbon felt electrodes (CoNiPS@CF) is reported. Due to the porous hollow nanotube structure and synergistic effect of P, S co-doped, the CoNiPS@CF based capacitive deionization (CDI) system exhibits high desalination capacity (76.1 mgCl – g–1), fast desalination rate (6.33 mgCl – g–1 min–1) and good cycling stability (capacity retention rate of > 90%), which compares favorably to the state-of-the-art electrodes. The porous hollow nanotube structure enables fast ion diffusion kinetics due to the swift ion transport inside the electrode and the presence of a large number of reactive sites. The introduction of S element also reduces the passivation layer on the surface of CoNiP and lowers the adsorption energy for Cl– capture, thereby improving the electrode conductivity and surface electrochemical activity, and further accelerating the adsorption kinetics. Our results offer a powerful strategy to improve the reactivity and stability of transition metal phosphides for chloride capture, and to improve the efficiency of electrochemical dechlorination technologies.

Abstract Background/purpose(s) The gut microbiota and its metabolites play crucial roles in pathogenesis of arthritis, highlighting gut microbiota as a promising avenue for modulating autoimmunity. However, the characterization of the gut virome in arthritis patients, including osteoarthritis (OA) and gouty arthritis (GA), requires further investigation. Methods We employed virus-like particle (VLP)-based metagenomic sequencing to analyze gut viral community in 20 OA patients, 26 GA patients, and 31 healthy controls, encompassing a total of 77 fecal samples. Results Our analysis generated 6819 vOTUs, with a considerable proportion of viral genomes differing from existing catalogs. The gut virome in OA and GA patients differed significantly from healthy controls, showing variations in diversity and viral family abundances. We identified 157 OA-associated and 94 GA-associated vOTUs, achieving high accuracy in patient-control discrimination with random forest models. OA-associated viruses were predicted to infect pro-inflammatory bacteria or bacteria associated with immunoglobulin A production, while GA-associated viruses were linked to Bacteroidaceae or Lachnospiraceae phages. Furthermore, several viral functional orthologs displayed significant differences in frequency between OA-enriched and GA-enriched vOTUs, suggesting potential functional roles of these viruses. Additionally, we trained classification models based on gut viral signatures to effectively discriminate OA or GA patients from healthy controls, yielding AUC values up to 0.97, indicating the clinical utility of the gut virome in diagnosing OA or GA. Conclusion Our study highlights distinctive alterations in viral diversity and taxonomy within gut virome of OA and GA patients, offering insights into arthritis etiology and potential treatment and prevention strategies. ABSTRACT: Objective: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has been implemented in Guangxi for a long time, and there are no reports of HIV drug resistance mutation (DRM) among children and adolescents experiencing virologic failure after ART. This study aimed to analyse HIV DRM prevalence, patterns, and influencing factors among children and adolescents experiencing virologic failure after ART in Guangxi. Methods: We collected samples from a total of 491 HIV-infected individuals under 18 years old experiencing virologic failure after ART from 14 cities in Guangxi. Sequencing and DRM analysis were performed based on pol region. Multivariate logistic regression was employed to analysis the influencing factors of DRM. Results: Among these patients, 396 cases were successfully sequenced. Of all, 52.53% exhibited HIV DRM, including NNRTI (48.48%), NRTI (34.85%) and PI (1.01%). NRTI and NNRTI dual-class resistance was prevalent (30.3%). M184V/I and K103N mutations were the common mutations in NRTI and NNRTI, respectively. Male sex (aOR = 2.1, 95% CI: 1.26–3.50), CRF01_AE subtype (OR = 2.50, 95% CI: 1.02–5.88), the primary regimen 3TC+AZT+NVP (OR = 10.00, 95% CI: 5.00–25.00), low pretreatment CD4+ T lymphocytes (1000 copies/mL) (OR = 4.90, 95% CI: 1.03–23.39) showed higher risk of DRM. Conclusion: HIV DRM is pervasive among children and adolescents experiencing virologic failure in Guangxi. Timely HIV DRM monitoring is crucial to mitigate major mutation accumulation and inform effective treatment strategies.

ABSTRACT: Objectives: Herein, we detected one multidrug-resistant Aeromonas hydrophila strain K522 co-carrying two blaKPC-2 genes together with a novel chromosomal integrative and mobilizable element (IME) Tn7548 from China. To reveal the genetic characteristics of the novel reservoir of blaKPC-2 and IME in Aeromonas, a detailed genomic characterization of K522 was performed, and a phylogenetic analysis of Tn7412-related IMEs was carried out. Methods: Carbapenemases were detected by using the immunocolloidal gold technique and antimicrobial susceptibility was tested by using VITEK 2. The whole-genome sequences of K522 were analysed using phylogenetics, detailed dissection, and comparison. Results: Strain K522 carried a Tn7412-related chromosomal IME Tn7548 and three resistance plasmids pK522-A-KPC, pK522-B-KPC, and pK522-MOX. A phylogenetic tree of 82 Tn7412-related IMEs was constructed, and five families of IMEs were divided. These IMEs shared four key backbone genes: int, repC, and hipAB, and carried various profiles of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs). pK522-A-KPC and pK522-B-KPC carried blaKPC-2 and belonged to IncG and unclassified type plasmid, respectively. The blaKPC-2 regions of these two plasmids were the truncated version derived from Tn6296, resulting in the carbapenem resistance of K522. Conclusion: We first reported A. hydrophila harbouring a novel Tn7412-related IME Tn7548 together with two blaKPC-2 carrying plasmids and a MDR plasmid. Three of these four mobile genetic elements (MGEs) discovered in A. hydrophila K522 were novel. The emergence of novel MGEs carrying ARGs indicated the rapid evolution of the resistance gene vectors in A. hydrophila under selection pressure and would contribute to the further dissemination of various ARGs in Aeromonas.

Abstract Background The most challenging aspect of rehabilitation is the repurposing of residual functional plasticity in stroke patients. To achieve this, numerous plasticity-based clinical rehabilitation programs have been developed. This study aimed to investigate the effects of motor imagery (MI)-based brain–computer interface (BCI) rehabilitation programs on upper extremity hand function in patients with chronic hemiplegia. Design A 2010 Consolidated Standards for Test Reports (CONSORT)-compliant randomized controlled trial. Methods Forty-six eligible stroke patients with upper limb motor dysfunction participated in the study, six of whom dropped out. The patients were randomly divided into a BCI group and a control group. The BCI group received BCI therapy and conventional rehabilitation therapy, while the control group received conventional rehabilitation only. The Fugl–Meyer Assessment of the Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) score was used as the primary outcome to evaluate upper extremity motor function. Additionally, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans were performed on all patients before and after treatment, in both the resting and task states. We measured the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), z conversion of ALFF (zALFF), and z conversion of ReHo (ReHo) in the resting state. The task state was divided into four tasks: left-hand grasping, right-hand grasping, imagining left-hand grasping, and imagining right-hand grasping. Finally, meaningful differences were assessed using correlation analysis of the clinical assessments and functional measures. Results A total of 40 patients completed the study, 20 in the BCI group and 20 in the control group. Task-related blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) analysis showed that when performing the motor grasping task with the affected hand, the BCI group exhibited significant activation in the ipsilateral middle cingulate gyrus, precuneus, inferior parietal gyrus, postcentral gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, superior temporal gyrus, and contralateral middle cingulate gyrus. When imagining a grasping task with the affected hand, the BCI group exhibited greater activation in the ipsilateral superior frontal gyrus (medial) and middle frontal gyrus after treatment. However, the activation of the contralateral superior frontal gyrus decreased in the BCI group relative to the control group. Resting-state fMRI revealed increased zALFF in multiple cerebral regions, including the contralateral precentral gyrus and calcarine and the ipsilateral middle occipital gyrus and cuneus, and decreased zALFF in the ipsilateral superior temporal gyrus in the BCI group relative to the control group. Increased zReHo in the ipsilateral cuneus and contralateral calcarine and decreased zReHo in the contralateral middle temporal gyrus, temporal pole, and superior temporal gyrus were observed post-intervention. Abstract Background Emerging investigations have increasingly highlighted the critical role of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and M2 macrophages in cancer development, progression, and metastasis, marking them as potential targets in various cancer types. The main objective of this research is to discover new biomarkers associated with TAM-M2 macrophages in colorectal cancer (CRC) and to dissect the molecular heterogeneity of CRC by combining single-cell RNA sequencing and bulk RNA-seq data. Methods By utilizing weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), we acquired TAM-M2-associated genes by intersecting TAM marker genes obtained from scRNA-seq data with module genes of M2 macrophages derived from bulk RNA-seq data. We employed least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox analysis to select predictive biomarkers from these TAM-M2-related genes. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was employed to validate the mRNA expression levels of the genes identified in the screening. This led to the development of the TAM-M2-related signature (TAMM2RS). We also conducted functional and immune landscape analyses of different risk groups. Results The combination of scRNA-seq and bulk RNA-seq analyses yielded 377 TAM-M2-related genes. DAPK1, NAGK, and TRAF1 emerged as key prognostic genes in CRC, which were identified through LASSO Cox analysis. Utilizing these genes, we constructed and validated the TAMM2RS, demonstrating its effectiveness in predicting survival in CRC patients. Conclusion Our research offers a thorough investigation into the molecular mechanisms associated with TAM-M2 macrophages in CRC and unveils potential therapeutic targets, offering new insights for treatment strategies in colorectal cancer.

Mining-induced landslides are a common form of disaster in the mountainous areas of coal mines. To clarify the deformation and failure patterns of such slopes under the mining action, the particle discrete element method was employed to simulate the destabilization damage process of the anticline coal seam slope under two conditions, single-seam mining and three-seam mining, and analyze the characteristics of crack expansion and rock fragmentation during slope deformation, based on the field investigation of typical mining-controlled landslides. The results show that: 1) In a single-seam condition, an arch-ring type deformation zone is created in the roof area after the coal seam is excavated and evolves into a fallen rock body; while the rock body at the interval of multi-layer excavation will be bent sink collapse, forming a large area of rock fragmentation. 2) Under different excavation conditions, the internal crack evolution and rock fragmentation of the slope are slow at the beginning of the formation of the fall zone and stress redistribution. The stage of roof emergence and rock bending fracture is the main stage of rock fracture and fragmentation. 3) The anti-inclined coal seam mining-controlled mountain failure pattern is mainly manifested as follows: Coal seam mining →Arch-loop-like fall of the roof →Bending and sinking of the internal rock →Pulling and breaking of the trailing edge →Failure of the locking zone at the foot of the slope → Shallow sliding of the fragmented rock. This study provides a new direction for the analysis of the destabilization mechanism of mining-controlled slopes and scientific guidance for the prevention and control of landslide hazards in mining areas.

Abstract Background/Objective No previous study has investigated the association between dietary pattern and both general and abdominal obesity risk among adults in Nigeria. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between dietary patterns and the risk of obesity among adult age 18 and above in Ekiti State, Southwestern Nigeria. Methods and study designs A total of 1003 adults were included in this cross-sectional study (males = 558; females = 445). Body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip (WHR) were used to assess general and abdominal obesity respectively and they were categorized using WHO recommendation. Partial correlation analyses were performed to assess the associations of dietary patterns with BMI and WHR. Prevalence ratio between dietary pattern and both general and abdominal obesity were calculated using Robust Poisson Regression. Results The prevalence of general obesity among adults was 15.9%, (11.6% among men and 20.2% among women); abdominal obesity was 32.3% (28.9% among males and 44.5% among females). Four dietary patterns were identified; diversified traditional pattern; typical traditional pattern; milk and bread pattern and egg and fish pattern. Diversified traditional pattern was negatively associated with BMI (PR = 0.571, 95%CI: 0.360 ~ 0.905, p = 0.017), and typical traditional pattern was positively associated with BMI (PR = 1.561, 95% CI: 1.043 ~ 2.339, p = 0.031) and WHR in females (PR = 1.849, 95% CI: 1.256 ~ 2.721, p = 0.005). In comparison to those in the lowest quartile, adults with the highest quartile of the typical traditional pattern had a higher risk for abdominal obesity (PR = 1.849, 95%CI = 1.256 ~ 2.721, p = 0.020). Conclusion This study reports an alarming increase in Obesity prevalence among Nigeria adults which is greatly influence by their lifestyle and eating pattern. We found out that a typical traditional food pattern was associated with a higher risk of both general and abdominal obesity, but a diverse traditional food pattern was associated to a reduced risk of general obesity.

Abstract Although most people living with HIV (PLWH) receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) achieve continuous viral suppression, some show detectable HIV RNA as low-level viremia (LLV) (50–999 copies/mL). Drug resistance mutations (DRMs) in PLWH with LLV is of particular concern as which may lead to treatment failure. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of LLV and LLV-associated DRMs in PLWH in Zhengzhou City, China. Of 3616 ART-experienced PLWH in a long-term follow-up cohort from Jan 2022 to Aug 2023, 120 were identified as having LLV. Of these PLWH with LLV, we obtained partial pol and integrase sequences from 104 (70 from HIV-1 RNA and 34 from proviral DNA) individuals. DRMs were identified in 44 individuals. Subtyping analysis indicated that the top three subtypes were B (48.08%, 50/104), CRF07_BC (31.73%, 33/104), and CRF01_AE (15.38%, 16/104). The proportions of nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs), protease inhibitors (PIs), and integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) associated DRMs were 23.83% (24/104), 35.58% (37/104), 5.77% (6/104), and 3.85% (4/104), respectively, which contributed to an overall prevalence of 42.31% (44/104). When analyzed by individual DRMs, the most common mutation(s) were V184 (18.27%, 19/104), followed by V179 (11.54%, 12/104), K103 (9.62%, 10/104), Y181 (9.62%, 10/104), M41 (7.69%, 8/104), and K65R (7.69%, 8/104). The prevalence of DRMs in ART-experienced PLWH with LLV is high in Zhengzhou City and continuous surveillance can facilitate early intervention and provision of effective treatment.

To explore the preparation, enrichment, and structural analysis of bitter almond antimicrobial peptides, in this experiment, the protein was extracted from the defatted bitter almonds, and the protein was hydrolyzed by enzymes to prepare bitter almond protein antibacterial peptides. The preparation process was optimized, and the resulting peptides' antibacterial activity was detected. The peptides were further purified and enriched. The components with the strongest antibacterial activity were isolated, and their structure was analyzed. The results showed that the papain hydrolysate had the strongest bacteriostatic effect on Gram-positive bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus. The optimal conditions for the preparation of bitter almond antibacterial peptides were as follows: The enzymatic hydrolysis temperature was 74℃, the enzyme-to-substrate ratio was 2.5%, and the pH was 7. The protein concentration of the antibacterial peptides was 19.21%, and the minimum inhibitory concentration was 3.13 mg/mL. The antibacterial peptides were isolated and purified by ultrafiltration and gel filtration chromatography (Sephadex G-25). Peptide component A-II-b was screened out to have the strongest inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The gel filtration conditions were optimized with a sample concentration of 9.38 mg/mL, an elution rate of 0.68 mL/min, and pure water as the eluent. Under these conditions, the peak area ratio of peptide component A-II-b was 13.15%. The structure of peptide component A-II-b was analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and the results were imported into the UniProt database and the APD3 database for matching. Seven kinds of bitter almond peptides with potential antibacterial activity with molecular weights of 1500~2500 Da were screened out, including ALPDEVLQNAFRIS, ESWNPRDPQFQWAGVA, VAYWSYNNGEQPLVA, FLDLSNDQNQLDQVPR, GENDNRNQIIRVR, RNLQGENDNRNQIIRVR, and RALPDEVLQNAFRIS. This study promoted the in-depth development and resource reuse of almond active peptides and also provided a theoretical basis for their research and further development and utilization as an antibacterial peptide.

In this work, CoCrFeNiSix coatings were fabricated by magnetron sputtering at the negative bias voltage ranging from 0 to 100 V. The effect of negative bias voltage on the composition, microstructure and corrosion performance was studied. The results show that all CoCrFeNiSix coatings consisted of amorphous and nanocrystalline FCC phases. However, the ratio of both amorphous/nanocrystalline phases and Si/(Co + Cr + Fe + Ni) atoms decreased with increasing negative bias voltage. Applying negative bias voltage also led to the improved surface quality. Accordingly, the corrosion rate of CoCrFeNiSix coatings in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 solution exhibited a decreasing trend. Meanwhile, the CoCrFeNiSix coating deposited at 100 V had the lowest passive current density, highest coating resistance and lowest carrier density. This was because that Si competed with Cr to suppress the formation of Cr2O3 in the compact inner layer, and thus the decreasing Si content caused by increasing negative bias voltage led to the improved protection effect of the passive film.

Abstract Objective To analyze the clinical infection characteristics and genetic environments of resistance genes in carbapenem-resistant Citrobacter europaeus using whole-genome sequencing. Methods The susceptibility of two clinical isolates of C. europaeus (WF0003 and WF1643) to 24 antimicrobial agents was assessed using the BD Phoenix™ M50 System and Kirby-Bauer (K-B) disk-diffusion method. Whole-genome sequencing was performed on the Illumina and Nanopore platforms, and ABRicate software was used to predict resistance and virulence genes of carbapenem-resistant C. europaeus. The characteristics of plasmids carrying carbapenem-resistance genes and their genetic environments were analyzed. Single nucleotide polymorphisms were used to construct a phylogenetic tree to analyze the homology of these two C. europaeus strains with ten strains of C. europaeus in the NCBI database. Results The two strains of carbapenem-resistant C. europaeus are resistant to various antimicrobial agents, particularly carbapenems and β-lactams. WF0003 carries bla NDM− 1, which is located on an IncX3 plasmid that has high homology to the pNDM-HN380 plasmid. bla NDM− 1 is located on a truncated Tn125. It differs from Tn125 by the insertion of IS5 in the upstream ISAba125 and the deletion of the downstream ISAba125, which is replaced by IS26. WF1643 carries bla OXA− 48 in a Tn1999 transposon on the IncL/M plasmid, carrying only that single drug resistance gene. Homology analysis of these two strains of C. europaeus with ten C. europaeus strains in the NCBI database revealed that the 12 strains can be classified into three clades, with both WF0003 and WF1643 in the B clade. Conclusion To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report an IncX3 plasmid carrying bla NDM− 1 in C. europaeus in China. C. europaeus strains harboring carbapenem-resistance genes are concerning in relation to the spread of antimicrobial resistance, and the presence of carbapenem-resistance genes in C. europaeus should be continuously monitored.

Abstract Semantic segmentation from a three‐dimensional point cloud is vital in autonomous driving, computer vision, and augmented reality. However, current semantic segmentation does not effectively use the point cloud's local geometric features and contextual information, essential for improving segmentation accuracy. A semantic segmentation network that uses local feature fusion and a multilayer attention mechanism is proposed to address these challenges. Specifically, the authors designed a local feature fusion module to encode the geometric and feature information separately, which fully leverages the point cloud's feature perception and geometric structure representation. Furthermore, the authors designed a multilayer attention pooling module consisting of local attention pooling and cascade attention pooling to extract contextual information. Local attention pooling is used to learn local neighbourhood information, and cascade attention pooling captures contextual information from deeper local neighbourhoods. Finally, an enhanced feature representation of important information is obtained by aggregating the features from the two deep attention pooling methods. Extensive experiments on large‐scale point‐cloud datasets Stanford 3D large‐scale indoor spaces and SemanticKITTI indicate that authors network shows excellent advantages over existing representative methods regarding local geometric feature description and global contextual relationships.

Abstract Background The prevalence of burnout among healthcare workers remains chronically high. Former studies have indicated that strength use is a promising approach to reduce burnout. However, relatively little is known about the psychological mechanisms underlying the ability of strength use to reduce burnout, especially among healthcare workers. Aim This study sought to examine the link between strength use and burnout in Chinese healthcare workers, and to explore the mediating roles of beliefs about stress and basic psychological needs satisfaction in that relationship. Methods This study was conducted in two time periods, from September to October 2020 and from February to September 2022. A total of 812 healthcare workers completed a multi-section questionnaire. Results Strength use was negatively associated with burnout and negative stress beliefs, and positively associated with positive stress beliefs, control beliefs, and basic psychological needs satisfaction. Moreover, negative stress beliefs, control beliefs, and basic psychological needs satisfaction fully mediated the relationship between strength use and burnout. Furthermore, effect contrasts revealed that the mediating effect of basic psychological needs satisfaction was stronger than that of negative stress beliefs and control beliefs. Conclusion Our findings revealed that negative stress beliefs, control beliefs, and basic psychological needs satisfaction act as mediators in the association of strength use with burnout. Furthermore, basic psychological needs satisfaction plays a more important mediating role than negative stress beliefs and control beliefs in the strength use–burnout relationship.

Familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) is a severe genetic disorder characterized by incomplete vascularization of the peripheral retina and associated symptoms that can lead to vision loss. However, the underlying genetic causes of approximately 50% of FEVR cases remain unknown. Here, we report two heterozygous variants in calcyphosine-like gene (CAPSL) that is associated with FEVR. Both variants exhibited compromised CAPSL protein expression. Vascular endothelial cell (EC)-specific inactivation of Capsl resulted in delayed radial/vertical vascular progression, compromised endothelial proliferation/migration, recapitulating the human FEVR phenotypes. CAPSL-depleted human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRECs) exhibited impaired tube formation, decreased cell proliferation, disrupted cell polarity establishment, and filopodia/lamellipodia formation, as well as disrupted collective cell migration. Transcriptomic and proteomic profiling revealed that CAPSL abolition inhibited the MYC signaling axis, in which the expression of core MYC targeted genes were profoundly decreased. Furthermore, a combined analysis of CAPSL-depleted HRECs and c-MYC-depleted human umbilical vein endothelial cells uncovered similar transcription patterns. Collectively, this study reports a novel FEVR-associated candidate gene, CAPSL, which provides valuable information for genetic counseling of FEVR. This study also reveals that compromised CAPSL function may cause FEVR through MYC axis, shedding light on the potential involvement of MYC signaling in the pathogenesis of FEVR.

Identifying the stability and sensitivity of land ecosystems to climate change is vital for exploring nature-based solutions. However, the underlying mechanisms governing ecosystem stability and sensitivity, especially in regions with overlapping ecological projects, remain unclear. based on Mann-Kendall, stability analysis method, and multiple regression method, this study quantified the stability and sensitivity of gross primary productivity (GPP) to climate variables [temperature, vapor pressure deficit (VPD), soil moisture, and radiation] in China from 1982 to 2019. Our findings revealed the following: (1) GPP demonstrated an increased trend with lower stability in Eastern regions, whereas a decreasing trend with higher stability was observed in Western and Southwest China. Notably, the stability of GPP was highest (74.58%) in areas with five overlapping ecological projects: Grain to Green, Natural Forest Resource Protection Project, Three-River Ecological Conservation and Restoration Project, Return Grazing to Grassland Project, and Three-North Shelter Forestation Project. (2) In regions with minimal or no overlapping ecological projects, temperature and radiation jointly dominated GPP variations. In contrast, water-related factors (VPD and soil moisture) significantly affected GPP in areas with multiple overlapping ecological projects. (3) In the southwestern and northeastern regions, GPP exhibited the highest sensitivity to climate change, whereas, in the eastern coastal areas and Tibet, GPP showed low sensitivity to climate change. In the Loess Plateau, where five ecological projects overlap extensively, carbon sinks primarily demonstrate a monotonic increasing trend, high stability, and low sensitivity to climate change. This study aimed to assess the stability of the land ecosystems and delineate their sensitivity to climate changes, thereby laying the groundwork for understanding ecosystem resilience.

A comprehensive evaluation of the relationship between the densities of various cell types in the breast cancer tumor microenvironment and patient prognosis is currently lacking. Additionally, the absence of a large patch-level whole slide imaging (WSI) dataset of breast cancer with annotated cell types hinders the ability of artificial intelligence to evaluate cell density in breast cancer WSI. We first employed Lasso-Cox regression to build a breast cancer prognosis assessment model based on cell density in a population study. Pathology experts manually annotated a dataset containing over seventy thousand patches and used transfer learning based on ResNet152 to develop an artificial intelligence model for identifying different cell types in these patches. The results showed that significant prognostic differences were observed among breast cancer patients stratified by cell density score (P = 0.0018), with the cell density score identified as an independent prognostic factor for breast cancer patients (P < 0.05). In the validation cohort, the predictive performance for overall survival (OS) was satisfactory, with area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.893 (OS) at 1-year, 0.823 (OS) at 3-year, and 0.861 (OS) at 5-year intervals. We trained a robust model based on ResNet152, achieving over 99% classification accuracy for different cell types in patches. These achievements offer new public resources and tools for personalized treatment and prognosis assessment.

Herein, a YAG/10 at% Yb:YAG/YAG transparent ceramic planar waveguide (PWG) gain medium has been molded via inkjet printing and dry pressing molding. The composition and rheological property of ink are optimized along with the printing process to enhance the printing accuracy and quality. The PWG has dimensions of 13.5 × 8.0 × 1.8 mm3, while the thickness of the core Yb:YAG layer is ≈190 μm. The in‐line transmittance of the PWG reaches 81.7% at 1030 nm, and the average grain size is ≈2.3 μm. The diffusion characteristics of Yb ions across the interface between the cladding YAG layer and the core Yb:YAG layer are investigated by calculating the diffusion coefficient and the mean diffusion distance of 172Yb ions. The Yb:YAG PWG oscillator, which is pumped from a single end by a 940 nm laser diode, produces continuous wave laser at a wavelength of 1030 nm and exhibits the highest power (3.8 W) and highest absorbed–output slope efficiency (64.6%).

Tongue coating affects cognition, and cognitive decline at early stage also showed relations to functional and structural remodeling of superior temporal sulcus (STS) in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). The potential correlation between disparate cognitive manifestations in aMCI patients with different tongue coatings, and corresponding mechanisms of STS remodeling remains uncharted. In this case-control study, aMCI patients were divided into thin coating (n = 18) and thick coating (n = 21) groups. All participants underwent neuropsychological evaluations and multimodal magnetic resonance imaging. Group comparisons were conducted in clinical assessments and neuroimaging measures of banks of the STS (bankssts). Generalized linear models were constructed to explore relationships between neuroimaging measures and cognition. aMCI patients in the thick coating group exhibited significantly poorer immediate and delayed recall and slower information processing speed (IPS) (P < 0.05), and decreased functional connectivity (FC) of bilateral bankssts with frontoparietal cortices (P < 0.05, AlphaSim corrected) compared to the thin coating group. It was found notable correlations between cognition encompassing recall and IPS, and FC of bilateral bankssts with frontoparietal cortices (P < 0.05, Bonferroni's correction), as well as interaction effects of group × regional homogeneity (ReHo) of right bankssts on the first immediate recall (P < 0.05, Bonferroni's correction). aMCI patients with thick coating exhibited poor cognitive performance, which might be attributed to decreased FC seeding from bankssts. Our findings strengthen the understanding of brain reorganization of STS via which tongue coating status impacts cognition in patients with aMCI.

The simulation of the predissociation spectrum of the Na2 23Πg∼33Πg←b3Πu (v=14,J=14) transition, observed earlier with the Perturbation Facilitated Optical–Optical Double Resonance (PFOODR) experimental method, is done within the Optimizer project with our Split-operator computational package using Padé approximations for all functions involved in the model. This simulation reproduces the experimental spectrum satisfactory well. The parameters of the model functions involved in the simulations are determined and reported. A brief description of our computational methods and programs is presented.

Hemisphere functional lateralization is a prominent feature of the human brain. However, it is not known whether hemispheric lateralization features are altered in end-stage knee osteoarthritis (esKOA). In this study, we performed resting-state functional magnetic imaging on 46 esKOA patients and 31 healthy controls (HCs) and compared with the global and inter-hemisphere network to clarify the hemispheric functional network lateralization characteristics of patients. A correlation analysis was performed to explore the relationship between the inter-hemispheric network parameters and clinical features of patients. The node attributes were analyzed to explore the factors changing in the hemisphere network function lateralization in patients. We found that patients and HCs exhibited “small-world” brain network topology. Clustering coefficient increased in patients compared with that in HCs. The hemisphere difference in inter-hemispheric parameters including assortativity, global efficiency, local efficiency, clustering coefficients, small-worldness, and shortest path length. The pain course and intensity of esKOA were positively correlated with the right hemispheric lateralization in local efficiency, clustering coefficients, and the small-worldness, respectively. The significant alterations of several nodal properties were demonstrated within group in pain-cognition, pain-emotion, and pain regulation circuits. The abnormal lateralization inter-hemisphere network may be caused by the destruction of regional network properties.

The hydrological dynamics and sources of karst tidal springs are difficult to capture and quantify due to fluctuations in their flow velocity. In this study, the Laolongshui (LLS) karst tidal spring in the Maocun underground river basin of Guilin City was taken as an example, with a 2-year continuous monitoring of the electrical conductivity, and water level, as well as water chemical analysis. The results showed the following: (1) discovered the variation pattern of LLS water level in different seasons, the water level fluctuates regularly on a daily scale, with a rise and fall time of 43.6 min after heavy rainfall in the rainy season, while in the dry season, it lasts for about 74–80 h. (2) Four peaks were extracted from the frequency distribution of electrical conductivity, representing the response of springwater under different rainfall conditions. (3) The annual average frequencies of the occurrence of P1, P2, P3, and P4 in terms of time are 53.82, 39.29, 6.18, and 0.72%, respectively. The results provide a new method for analyzing groundwater's source and dynamic changes in karst areas. HIGHLIGHTS Two years of automatic continuous monitoring illustrated the water level fluctuation of a typical karst tidal spring.; Explaining the forming mechanism of karst tidal springs.; The frequency distribution of conductivity quantified the source of karst water.; Providing a fast and low-cost new method for identifying karst water sources.; Enriching groundwater investigation methods and understanding of underground structures.;

Abstract Heart failure is the prevalent complication of acute myocardial infarction. We aim to identify a biomarker for heart failure post-acute myocardial infarction. This observational study includes 1062 and 1043 patients with acute myocardial infarction in the discovery and validation cohorts, respectively. The outcomes are in-hospital and long-term heart failure events. S100A8/A9 is screened out through proteomic analysis, and elevated circulating S100A8/A9 is independently associated with heart failure in discovery and validation cohorts. Furthermore, the predictive value of S100A8/A9 is superior to the traditional biomarkers, and the addition of S100A8/A9 improves the risk estimation using traditional risk factors. We finally report causal effect of S100A8/A9 on heart failure in three independent cohorts using Mendelian randomization approach. Here, we show that S100A8/A9 is a predictor and potentially causal medicator for heart failure post-acute myocardial infarction.

Abstract While phonon anharmonicity affects lattice thermal conductivity intrinsically and is difficult to be modified, controllable lattice defects routinely function only by scattering phonons extrinsically. Here, through a comprehensive study of crystal structure and lattice dynamics of Zintl-type Sr(Cu,Ag,Zn)Sb thermoelectric compounds using neutron scattering techniques and theoretical simulations, we show that the role of vacancies in suppressing lattice thermal conductivity could extend beyond defect scattering. The vacancies in Sr2ZnSb2 significantly enhance lattice anharmonicity, causing a giant softening and broadening of the entire phonon spectrum and, together with defect scattering, leading to a ~ 86% decrease in the maximum lattice thermal conductivity compared to SrCuSb. We show that this huge lattice change arises from charge density reconstruction, which undermines both interlayer and intralayer atomic bonding strength in the hierarchical structure. These microscopic insights demonstrate a promise of artificially tailoring phonon anharmonicity through lattice defect engineering to manipulate lattice thermal conductivity in the design of energy conversion materials.

Highlights Through facial basicity adjustment, kinetically favorable ZnxNi1-xO@CF electrode was formed with a high density hierarchical structure and three dimensional open pores. The optimal Zn-doping ratio in ZnxNi1-xO@CF has excellent sodium storage and desalination performance (128.9 mg g-1). The mechanism of Na+ intercalation process was studied by electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring in situ test and the activation mechanism of redox-inert Zn-doping on electrode materials was reported.

Exploring new prototypes for a given chemical composition is of great importance and interest to several disciplines. As a famous semiconducting binary compound, InSe usually exhibits a two-dimensional layered structure with decent physical and mechanical properties. However, it is less noticed that InSe can also adopt a monoclinic structure, denoted as mcl-InSe. The synthesis of such a phase usually requires high-pressure conditions, and the knowledge is quite scarce on its chemical bonding, lattice dynamics, and thermal transport. Here in this work, by developing a facile method combining mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering, we successfully synthesize mcl-InSe bulks with well-crystallized nanograins. The chemical bonding of mcl-InSe is understood as compared with layered InSe via charge analysis. Low cut-off frequencies of acoustic phonons and several low-lying optical modes are demonstrated. Noticeably, mcl-InSe exhibits a low room-temperature thermal conductivity of 0.6 W·m−1·K−1, which is smaller than that of other materials in the In–Se system and many other selenides. Low-temperature thermal analyses corroborate the role of nanograin boundaries and low-frequency optical phonons in scattering acoustic phonons. This work provides new insights into the non-common prototype of the InSe binary compound with potential applications in thermoelectrics or thermal insulation.

Composite body armor made of brittle ceramic and tough laminate can protect human body from penetration while reducing weight. However, there is a lack of a simple and comprehensive method for assessing ballistic impact response and blunt injury. In this study, the three-dimensional Digital Image Correlation technique was used to investigate the back-face response of ceramic/ultra-high-molecular-weight-polyethylene laminate composite body armor impacted by a 7.62 mm rifle bullet. Blunt injury assessment was conducted by Bullet Coefficient (BC) and Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) criteria. Firstly, the ceramic tile exhibited transverse and radial cracks; the laminate showed thin layers separation, bullet holes and pits, kink, sheared, and torn morphology. Secondly, the bulge button face showed a transition from circular to rectangular shape, and the shear strain distribution exhibited an L-shaped pattern. Thirdly, at the moment of maximum bulge kinetic energy, approximately 8.73 % of bullet kinetic energy converted into total bulge kinetic energy, in which the x- and y-directional kinetic energy accounted for 29.66 %. Fourthly, the BC values decreased as the gap between armor and the human body increased, and the corresponding AIS decreased from 4 to 0. Finally, a Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics and Finite Element Method (SPH-FEM) coupled numerical model was applied to simulate the occurrence of ceramic cracks and laminate damage. This study proposed a quantitative evaluation of ballistic performance and blunt injury of body armor based on the back-face morphology. The results provide quantitative evidence to research the impact mechanism and offer methods for assessing human blunt injury behind the armor.

ObjectiveThis paper presents a tracking control method based on dynamic programming guidance to address the challenges presented by the autonomous recovery of underactuated unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). MethodsAt the kinematic level, constant bearing approach (CB) guidance is combined with a dynamic window algorithm (DWA) to guide the USV in achieving target tracking and dynamic obstacle avoidance. At the dynamic level, considering the uncertainties in the model parameters and recovery environment, a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) is employed to design a dynamic sliding mode controller for the tracking control of the guidance output. Finally, the stability of the system is analyzed using Lyapunov theory. ResultsThe simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method enables the USV to exhibit stable tracking performance, effectively avoid dynamic obstacles during the recovery process and adapt to uncertain factors in the estimation model and unknown environmental disturbances. ConclusionThe proposed method exhibits strong robustness and flexibility, providing valuable references for the guidance and target tracking of USVs during recovery in dynamic environments.

To address the problems of limited identification accuracy and poor generalization ability of bearing fault diagnosis models, a convolutional neural network model for bearing fault diagnosis based on convolutional block attention module and multi-channel feature fusion (CBAM-MFFCNN) is proposed. The method uses signal processing technology to convert one-dimensional vibration signal into three types of two-dimensional time-frequency images, and constructs a network with multi-channel input to learn the three types of images at the same time. To realize the accurate fault diagnosis of bearings in strong noise environment, the structural parameters of the network are optimized. By adding different degrees of Gaussian white noise to the vibration signal, the convolution kernel size and the step of the first layer of the model are optimized. In order to improve the feature extraction ability and generalization performance of the model, the variable load dataset is constructed for training and testing. Experiments are conducted based on the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) bearing datasets, the experimental results show that compared with the single channel diagnosis model, CBAM-MFFCNN can not only realize accurate identification of bearing fault, but also achieve 100% identification accuracy in fault degree testing.

ABSTRACT: The breast plumage color of Guangxi Yao chickens shows obvious sexual dimorphism, with roosters showing black and black with red, and hens displaying partridge and red. Black plumage in roosters is considered a sign of quality, necessitating the purification of plumage color. Here, we developed an effective method based on genetic variations within MC1R and plumage characteristics. We clarified the distribution of 5 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) and 3 haplotypes (H1, H2, and H3) of MC1R gene, and revealed potential associations between haplotype H1 and black breast plumage in the F2 resource population derived from a backcross between Guangxi Yao and Yellow chickens. Subsequently, using H1/H1 diplotype roosters and hens to construct families (n = 1,244) notably increased the proportion of offspring with black plumage. Further analysis suggested that red plumage in hens may be the putative phenotype of black plumage in roosters, driven by haplotype H1 of the MC1R gene, as verified by genotype and phenotype analysis. As expected, we found that almost all male offspring of hens with red breast plumage showed black plumage. In short, we established a selection pattern based on the combination of black-plumage roosters and red-plumage hens can significantly purify the sexually dimorphic plumage color and improve the efficiency of breeding programs in Guangxi Yao chickens. Our findings provide a novel technical framework to accelerate the breeding process for plumage trait in poultry.

The loss of nitrogen in soil damages the environment. Clarifying the mechanism of ammonium nitrogen (NH4+-N) transport in soil and increasing the fixation of NH4+-N after N application are effective methods for improving N use efficiency. However, the main factors are not easily identified because of the complicated transport and retardation factors in different soils. This study employed machine learning (ML) to identify the main influencing factors that contribute to the retardation factor (Rf) of NH4+-N in soil. First, NH4+-N transport in the soil was investigated using column experiments and a transport model. The Rf (1.29 – 17.42) was calculated and used as a proxy for the efficacy of NH4+-N transport. Second, the physicochemical parameters of the soil were determined and screened using lasso and ridge regressions as inputs for the ML model. Third, six machine learning models were evaluated: Adaptive Boosting, Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGB), Random Forest, Gradient Boosting Regression, Multilayer Perceptron, and Support Vector Regression. The optimal ML model of the XGB model with a low mean absolute error (0.81), mean squared error (0.50), and high test r2 (0.97) was obtained by random sampling and five-fold cross-validation. Finally, SHapely Additive exPlanations, entropy-based feature importance, and permutation characteristic importance were used for global interpretation. The cation exchange capacity (CEC), total organic carbon (TOC), and Kaolin had the greatest effects on NH4+-N transport in the soil. The accumulated local effect offered a fundamental insight: When CEC > 6 cmol+ kg−1, and TOC > 40 g kg−1, the maximum resistance to NH4+-N transport within the soil was observed. This study provides a novel approach for predicting the impact of the soil environment on NH4+-N transport and guiding the establishment of an early-warning system of nutrient loss.

Mustard sprouts is a new form of vegetable product that is gaining attention due to its high content of health-promoting compounds such as glucosinolates. This study investigated the effects of different light qualities (white, red, and blue) alone and in combination with 100 μmol L−1 melatonin on the growth and health-promoting substance content of mustard sprouts. The results showed that white light + melatonin treatment promoted the accumulation of glucosinolates in sprouts (compared with white light increased by 47.89%). The edible fresh weight of sprouts treated with red light + melatonin was the highest, followed by white light + melatonin treatment. In addition, the sprouts treated with blue light + melatonin contained more ascorbic acid, flavonoids, and total phenolics. Therefore, the combined treatment of light quality (especially white light) and melatonin can provide a new strategy to improve the quality of mustard sprouts.

The high proportion of AIDS cases and mortality rates in Guangxi underscores the urgency to investigate the influence of HIV-1 genetic diversity on disease progression in this region. Newly diagnosed HIV-1 patients were enrolled from January 2016 to December 2021, and the follow-up work and detection of CD4+T lymphocytes were carried out every six months until December 2022. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the factors affecting pre-treatment CD4+T lymphocyte counts, while local weighted regression models (LOESS) and generalized estimating equation models (GEE) were conducted to assess factors influencing CD4+T Lymphocyte Recovery. Cox regression analysis was utilized to examine the impact of subtypes on survival risk. Additionally, HIV-1 env sequences were utilized for predicting CXCR4 and CCR5 receptors. The study encompassed 1867 individuals with pol sequences and 281 with env sequences. Our findings indicate that age over 30, divorced/widowed, peasant, heterosexual infection, CRF01_AE, long-term infection, and Pre-treatment Viral load >10000 copies/ml were factors associated with higher risk for pre-treatment CD4+T lymphocyte decline. Specifically, male gender, age over 30, heterosexual infection (HETs), long-term infection, CRF01_AE, and Pre-treatment CD4 T cell counts below 350/µL were identified as risk factors impeding CD4+T lymphocyte recovery. Pre-treatment CD4+T lymphocyte counts and recovery in individuals infected with CRF01_AE were lower compared to CRF07_BC and CRF55_01B. Additionally, CRF01_AE and CRF08_BC subtypes exhibited higher mortality rates than CRF07_BC, CRF55_01B, and other subtypes. Notably, CRF01_AE demonstrated the highest percentage of CXCR4 affinity ratios. This research unveils the intricate influence of HIV-1 gene diversity on CD4+T lymphocyte dynamics and clinical outcomes. It highlights the multifaceted nature of HIV infection in Guangxi, providing novel insights into subtype-specific disease progression among HIV-infected individuals in this region.

Polymer network is a crucial component of hydrogels, and network imperfection is a prominent feature of polymer networks, significantly influencing the performance of hydrogels. Two essential features of network imperfection are unequal chain lengths and dangling chains, both of which have a significant impact on the mechanical properties of single-network (SN) hydrogels. However, a theoretical framework considering network imperfection in SN hydrogels is still lacking. Here, we propose a theoretical model for SN hydrogels with network imperfection to study the damage behavior during deformation, in which we adopt different chain length distributions to accurately depict the real physical characteristics of the polymer network and incorporate the normalized critical chain force for a more precise measurement of network damage. To verify our theory, we discuss the effects of model parameters on the stress-stretch responses of SN hydrogels and predict the results of uniaxial loading-unloading tests of SN hydrogels, which agree well with experimentally measured stress-stretch behaviors. Finally, we implement the constitutive model into ABAQUS as a user subroutine to study the inhomogeneous deformation of hydrogels.

Abstract Flavonoids are widely distributed in nature and have a variety of beneficial biological effects, including antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and anti‐obesity effects. All of these are related to gut microbiota, and flavonoids also serve as a bridge between the host and gut microbiota. Flavonoids are commonly used to modify the composition of the gut microbiota by promoting or inhibiting specific microbial species within the gut, as well as modifying their metabolites. In turn, the gut microbiota extensively metabolizes flavonoids. Hence, this reciprocal relationship between flavonoids and the gut microbiota may play a crucial role in maintaining the balance and functionality of the metabolism system. In this review, we mainly highlighted the biological effects of antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory and antiobesity, and discussed the interaction between flavonoids, gut microbiota and lipid metabolism, and elaborated the potential mechanisms on host lipid metabolism.
