Abstract Background Endocrine resistance driven by sustained activation of androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway in advanced prostate cancer (PCa) is fatal. Characterization of mechanisms underlying aberrant AR pathway activation to search for potential therapeutic strategy is particularly important. Rac GTPase-activating protein 1 (RACGAP1) is one of the specific GTPase-activating proteins. As a novel tumor proto-oncogene, overexpression of RACGAP1 was related to the occurrence of various tumors. Methods Bioinformatics methods were used to analyze the relationship of expression level between RACGAP1 and AR as well as AR pathway activation. qRT-PCR and western blotting assays were performed to assess the expression of AR/AR-V7 and RACGAP1 in PCa cells. Immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence experiments were conducted to detect the interaction and co-localization between RACGAP1 and AR/AR-V7. Gain- and loss-of-function analyses were conducted to investigate the biological roles of RACGAP1 in PCa cells, using MTS and colony formation assays. In vivo experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of RACGAP1 inhibition on the tumor growth. Results RACGAP1 was a gene activated by AR, which was markedly upregulated in PCa patients with CRPC and enzalutamide resistance. AR transcriptionally activated RACGAP1 expression by binding to its promoter region. Reciprocally, nuclear RACGAP1 bound to the N-terminal domain (NTD) of both AR and AR-V7, blocking their interaction with the E3 ubiquitin ligase MDM2. Consequently, this prevented the degradation of AR/AR-V7 in a ubiquitin-proteasome-dependent pathway. Notably, the positive feedback loop between RACGAP1 and AR/AR-V7 contributed to endocrine therapy resistance of CRPC. Combination of enzalutamide and in vivo cholesterol-conjugated RIG-I siRNA drugs targeting RACGAP1 induced potent inhibition of xenograft tumor growth of PCa. Conclusion In summary, our results reveal that reciprocal regulation between RACGAP1 and AR/AR-V7 contributes to the endocrine resistance in PCa. These findings highlight the therapeutic potential of combined RACGAP1 inhibition and enzalutamide in treatment of advanced PCa.

Cancer remains a major global health challenge. Immunotherapy has revolutionized the management of cancer, yet only a limited number of patients respond to such treatments. This is largely attributed to the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, which diminishes the effectiveness of immunotherapy. Recent studies have underscored the potential of naturally derived caerin 1 peptides, particularly caerin 1.1 and caerin 1.9, which exhibit strong antitumor effects and enhance the efficacy of immunotherapies in animal models. This review encapsulates the current research aimed at augmenting the effectiveness of immunotherapy, focusing on the role of caerin 1.1 and caerin 1.9 in boosting immunotherapeutic outcomes, elucidating possible mechanisms, and discussing their limitations and challenges.

ObjectiveBaicalein, one of the most abundant flavonoids found in Chinese herb Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, exhibits pharmacological activities against various cancers. However, the precise pharmacological mechanism of baicalein in treating castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) remains elusive. This study aimed to elucidate the potential mechanism of baicalein against CRPC through a combination of network pharmacology and experimental approaches, thereby providing new avenues for research in CRPC treatment.MethodsThe pharmacological and molecular properties of baicalein were obtained using the TCMSP database. Baicalein-related targets were collected from multiple sources including SwissTargetPrediction, PharmMapper and CTD. Targets related to CRPC were acquired from DisGeNET, GeneCards, and CTD. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) was analyzed using STRING 11.5, and Cytoscape 3.7.2 software was utilized to explore the core targets of baicalein on CRPC. GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis were performed using DAVID database. Cell experiments were carried out to confirm the validity of the targets.ResultsA total of 131 potential targets of baicalein for the treatment of CRPC were obtained. Among them, TP53, AKT1, ALB, CASP3, and HSP90AA1, etc., were recognized as core targets by Cytoscape 3.7.2. GO function enrichment analysis yielded 926 entries, including 703 biological process (BP) terms, 84 cellular component (CC) terms and 139 molecular function (MF) terms. The KEGG pathway enrichment analysis unveiled 159 signaling pathways, mainly involved in Pathways in cancer, prostate cancer, AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, TP53 signaling pathway, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, etc. Cell experiments confirmed that baicalein may inhibit the proliferation of CRPC cells and induce cell cycle arrest in the G1 phase. This effect could be associated with the TP53/CDK2/cyclin E1 pathway. In addition, the results of CETSA suggest that baicalein may directly bind to TP53.ConclusionBased on network pharmacology analysis and cell experiments, we have predicted and validated the potential targets and related pathways of baicalein for CRPC treatment. This comprehensive approach provides a scientific basis for elucidating the molecular mechanism underlying the action of baicalein in CRPC treatment. Furthermore, these findings offer valuable insights and serve as a reference for the research and development of novel anti-CRPC drugs.

Abstract Background Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols are widely used worldwide. Recently, studies of the ERAS program in spinal surgery subspecialties have been reported. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impacts of ERAS in minimally invasive microdiscectomy (MD) surgery. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing MD at a single center. From March 2018 to March 2021, 286 patients were in the ERAS group. A total of 140 patients from March 2017 to February 2018 were in the conventional group. The outcomes included length of stay (LOS), the postoperative numeric rating scale (NRS), complications, 30-day readmission rate, 30-day reoperation rate and cost. Moreover, perioperative factors were also evaluated. Results Compared with the conventional group, the LOS and cost were reduced in the ERAS group. There were no significant differences in the NRS, complication rate, 30-day readmission or reoperation rates between the groups. Furthermore, postoperative drainage volume, and postoperative opioid use were lower in the ERAS group. Conclusions The ERAS protocol for MD surgery reduces LOS, cost and opioid use and accelerates patient recovery.

Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is the most common chronic disease. Oxidative stress and apoptosis of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells disrupt intervertebral disc (IVD) homeostasis, which is the main cause of IDD. Glioma-associated oncogene 1 (Gli1) is an important transcription factor in the Hedgehog (Hh) pathway. Depletion of Gli1 accelerates the occurrence and development of degenerative diseases. This study aimed to explore the role of aging related Gli1 depletion in the progression of IDD. Methods: The relationship between aging related Gli1 depletion and IDD was studied in the NP tissues of human and rats of different ages, and the levels of oxidative stress and NP cell apoptosis during IDD were explored. Gli1 depletion of NP cells were established by targeting inhibitor GANT61 or lentivirus-coated Gli1 sh-RNA (sh-Gli1) to explore the role of Gli1 in NP cells and underlying mechanism. Exogenous Gli1 depletion induced IDD of rats was established by intraperitoneal injection of GANT61. Also, the roles of Fos in the Gli1 depletion induced NP cell oxidative stress, apoptosis and IDD were investigated. Results: Gli1 was down-regulated in the tissues of degenerative NP, and the level of Gli1 was negatively correlated with the severity of aging related IDD in human and rats. Furthermore, we found enhanced oxidative stress and apoptosis in degenerative NP tissues. Gli1 depletion promoted oxidative stress and apoptosis of NP cells and resulted in the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) and decreased ECM synthesis. Transcriptome sequencing showed that Gli1 depletion caused Fos activation in NP cells. the effect of Gli1 depletion on the oxidative stress and apoptosis of NP cells were retarded by Fos inhibitor. In vivo, Fos inhibition alleviated the IDD induced by exogenous Gli1 depletion. Conclusions: This study revealed for the first time that Gli1 is gradually depleted in NP with IDD progression. Exogenous Gli1 depletion causes oxidative stress and apoptosis of NP cells both in vivo and in vitro. Fos suppression effectively retards the destructive effects of Gli1 depletion on IVD homoeostasis.The translational potential of this article: This study may provide new potential targets for preventing and reversing IDD. Maintaining Gli1 expression in NP and suppressing Fos activation may be an effective treatment strategy for IDD.

The present study aimed to evaluate the application of different wheat bran fermentation sources in growing pigs. A total of 320 pigs (43 ± 0.21 kg), were randomly allocated to 5 groups in a 21-d trial. The control group was fed a basal diet (CON) containing raw wheat bran, and the other four treatments were fed the diets in which the raw wheat bran in the basal diet was substituted with Aspergillus niger (WBA), Bacillus licheniformis (WBB), Candida utilis (WBC), and Lactobacillus plantarum (WBL) fermented wheat bran, respectively. On the basis of the conjugate gradient method, an inversion model of the transient convective heat transfer coefficient between the bore surface and the gunpowder gas is presented. In this study, the measured temperature at a certain depth from the bore surface is employed as input. The variation of the thermophysical properties of gun steel with respect to temperature is taken into consideration. After verifying the feasibility of the model with constant convective heat transfer coefficients, it is applied to the reconstruction of transient convective heat transfer coefficients that consistent with the classical interior ballistic laws. Results indicate that decreasing the measurement error and increasing the number of measurement points can effectively improve the performance of the model. As well, measurement points that placed further away from the inlet boundary offer superior accuracy. When studying the inverse heat transfer problem of the gun barrel, it is found that setting the monitoring time to be twice the duration of the interior ballistic period may guarantee sufficient input data. The inversion model may offer a promising theoretical framework for indirect measurement manner of the bore surface temperature of gun barrel.

A 2-D inversion model to reconstruct the transient inner wall heat flux of the coated barrel is proposed in this paper. Indirect measurement of the inner wall temperature of the barrel under harsh conditions is realized. Measurement points locate at specified distances from the inner surface. Temperature calculated from a direct problem plus the measurement errors is taken as measured temperature. Variations of the temperature dependent thermo-physical properties of materials are taken into consideration. The total heat input of the firing and thermal resistance between chromium coating and gun steel are determined by depths of gun steel phase transition and chromium recrystallization after firing. The direct problem, sensitivity problem and adjoint problem are solved with the finite difference method (FDM). After verifying the reliability of the inversion model with a special numerical example, it is promoted to reconstruction of general heat flux varying with time and space. Results indicate that decreasing the measurement error and increasing the number of measurement points can effectively improve the performance of the model. As well, measurement points closer to the inner wall offer superior accuracy. The inversion model herein can serve as a promising indirect measurement method of the inner wall temperature.

Abstract Background Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a common trauma in clinical practices. Subacute SCI is mainly characterized by neuronal apoptosis, axonal demyelination, Wallerian degeneration, axonal remodeling, and glial scar formation. It has been discovered in recent years that inflammatory responses are particularly important in subacute SCI. However, the mechanisms mediating inflammation are not completely clear. Methods The gene expression profiles of GSE20907, GSE45006, and GSE45550 were downloaded from the GEO database. The models of the three gene expression profiles were all for SCI to the thoracic segment of the rat. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) were performed using R software, and functional enrichment analysis and protein–protein interaction (PPI) network were performed using Metascape. Module analysis was performed using Cytoscape. Finally, the relative mRNA expression level of central genes was verified by RT-PCR. Results A total of 206 candidate genes were identified, including 164 up-regulated genes and 42 down-regulated genes. The PPI network was evaluated, and the candidate genes enrichment results were mainly related to the production of tumor necrosis factors and innate immune regulatory response. Twelve core genes were identified, including 10 up-regulated genes and 2 down-regulated genes. Finally, seven hub genes with statistical significance in both the RT-PCR results and expression matrix were identified, namely Itgb1, Ptprc, Cd63, Lgals3, Vav1, Shc1, and Casp4. They are all related to the activation process of microglia. Conclusion In this study, we identified the hub genes and signaling pathways involved in subacute SCI using bioinformatics methods, which may provide a molecular basis for the future treatment of SCI.

Urban vegetation is a nature-based solution for cooling cities. Under global warming and urban population growth, it is essential to optimize urban vegetation configuration in the urban area to bring maximum cooling benefit. This paper reviews 85 optimized urban vegetation configuration studies published from 2010 to 2020 to provide an insight into the most effective vegetation configuration for urban heat mitigation. Patterns and preferences in methods and the optimized greenery configurations are comprehensively analyzed. The results indicate that size, quantity, and layout of urban green space and the physiological characteristics and spatial arrangement of urban vegetation significantly influence their cooling effect. Additionally, two other research gaps were identified. First, more research needs to be done in southern hemisphere cities experiencing rapid urbanization and severe impacts of extreme weather. Second, a comprehensive method for quantifying interactions and cumulative effects of natural and artificial factors in the urban environment is required. Future study needs a holistic understanding of the interactive effects of vegetation spatial distribution on urban environment and climate for a more accurate analysis of optimal cooling greening layouts in large urban areas at multi-scales.

Abstract Background Enhance recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a new and promising paradigm for spine surgery. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness and safety of a multimodal and evidence-based ERAS pathway to the patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Methods The patients treated with the ACDF-ERAS pathway were compared with a historical cohort of patients who underwent ACDF before ERAS pathway implementation. Primary outcome was length of stay (LOS). Secondary outcomes included cost, MacNab grading, complication rates and 90-day readmission and reoperation. And perioperative factors and postoperative complications were reviewed. Results The ERAS protocol was composed of 21 components. More patients undergoing multi-level surgery (n ≥ 3) were included in the ERAS group. The ERAS group showed a shorter LOS and a lower cost than the conventional group. The postoperative satisfaction of patients in ERAS group was better than that in conventional group. In addition, the rate of overall complications was significantly higher in the conventional group than that in the ERAS group. There were no significant differences in operative time, postoperative drainage, or 90-day readmission and reoperation. Conclusions The ACDF-tailored ERAS pathway can reduce LOS, cost and postoperative complications, and improve patient satisfaction without increasing 90-day readmission and reoperation.

This research investigated the impact of complex low-speed wake flow structures on the aerodynamic characteristics of objects downstream. It employed the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method and the domain precursor simulation method to compare traditional methods and validate this approach. The study generated several flow structures of parallel dual-cylinder wakes with different scales and spacing. The variations in the aerodynamic coefficient of three downstream objects at various times passing through wakes of varying scales were appropriately compared and analyzed. The study established that the wake with a cylinder spacing of G = 1.5 has a more compact and concentrated modal structure than that with a cylinder spacing of G = 0.35. Smaller objects were more responsive to the wake flow structure with a spacing of G = 1.5, whereas larger objects responded more to the flow structure with a spacing of G = 0.35. The achieved results also revealed that the aerodynamic force coefficients of objects passing through the wakefield at different times were closely related to the temporal characteristics of the wake flow structure with different scales.

Wool-coiled MoSrOS bimetal oxysulfide catalysts were synthesized by a simple method. The catalysts were characterized by different instruments. The MoSrOS reduction activities were also investigated by the reduction of Cr(VI), Rhodamine-B (RhB), Methyl orange (MO), Methylene blue (MB) and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). The results showed that 100 mL (20 ppm) of 4-NP was completely reduced into 4-aminophenol (4-AP) in 20 min. Moreover, 100 mL (20 ppm) of MB, 100 mL (50 ppm) of RhB, 100 mL (50 ppm) of MO and 100 mL (50 ppm) of Cr(VI) were completely reduced within 6, 20, 40, and 30 min, respectively, by MoSrOS-2 bimetal oxysulfide catalyst. Hence, the wool-coiled MoSrOS bimetal oxysulfide catalysts could be used in the detoxification of toxic organic and inorganic pollutants.

Lithology classification is important in mineral resource exploration, engineering geological exploration, and disaster monitoring. Traditional laboratory methods for the qualitative analysis of rocks are limited by sampling conditions and analytical techniques, resulting in high costs, low efficiency, and the inability to quickly obtain large-scale geological information. Hyperspectral remote sensing technology can classify and identify lithology using the spectral characteristics of rock, and is characterized by fast detection, large coverage area, and environmental friendliness, which provide the application potential for lithological mapping at a large regional scale. In this study, ZY1-02D hyperspectral images were used as data sources to construct a new two-layer extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) lithology classification model based on the XGBoost decision tree and an improved greedy search algorithm. A total of 153 spectral bands of the preprocessed hyperspectral images were input into the first layer of the XGBoost model. Based on the tree traversal structural characteristics of the leaf nodes in the XGBoost model, three built-in XGBoost importance indexes were split and combined. The improved greedy search algorithm was used to extract the spectral band variables, which were imported into the second layer of the XGBoost model, and the bat algorithm was used to optimize the modeling parameters of XGBoost. The extraction model of rock classification information was constructed, and the classification map of regional surface rock types was drawn. Field verification was performed for the two-layer XGBoost rock classification model, and its accuracy and reliability were evaluated based on four indexes, namely, accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. The results showed that the two-layer XGBoost model had a good lithological classification effect, robustness, and adaptability to small sample datasets. Compared with the traditional machine learning model, the two-layer XGBoost model shows superior performance. The accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score of the verification set were 0.8343, 0.8406, 0.8350, and 0.8157, respectively. The variable extraction ability of the constructed two-layer XGBoost model was significantly improved. Compared with traditional feature selection methods, the GREED-GFC method, when applied to the two-layer XGBoost model, contributes to more stable rock classification performance and higher lithology prediction accuracy, and the smallest number of extracted features. The lithological distribution information identified by the model was in good agreement with the lithology information verified in the field.

An ejector refrigeration system is a promising heat-driven refrigeration technology for energy consumption. The ideal cycle of an ejector refrigeration cycle (ERC) is a compound cycle with an inverse Carnot cycle driven by a Carnot cycle. The coefficient of performance (COP) of this ideal cycle represents the theoretical upper bound of ERC, and it does not contain any information about the properties of working fluids, which is a key cause of the large energy efficiency gap between the actual cycle and the ideal cycle. In this paper, the limiting COP and thermodynamics perfection of subcritical ERC is derived to evaluate the ERC efficiency limit under the constraint of pure working fluids. 15 pure fluids are employed to demonstrate the effects of working fluids on limiting COP and limiting thermodynamics perfection. The limiting COP is expressed as the function of the working fluid thermophysical parameters and the operating temperatures. The thermophysical parameters are the specific entropy increase in the generating process and the slope of the saturated liquid, and the limiting COP increases with these two parameters. The result shows R152a, R141b, and R123 have the best performance, and the limiting thermodynamic perfections at the referenced state are 86.8%, 84.90%, and 83.67%, respectively.

The characterization of material anisotropic properties at high strain rates remains a challenging work due to the limitations of the conventional dynamic testing methods. In this study, a novel inverse identification strategy is proposed based on the dynamic virtual fields method (VFM) to enable a simultaneous identification of the anisotropic constitutive parameters from a single high speed impact test of a non-uniform specimen. This is implemented by taking advantage of the heterogeneous full-field strain and inertial acceleration data, in which the restrictions of one-dimensional stress wave propagation and homogeneous deformation states for the conventional methods are released. Specifically, the dynamic VFM-based identification algorithm is developed first. Then, several virtual impact tests with different specimen configurations are designed to provide distinct stress/strain distributions. Next, the simulated full-field strain and acceleration data are utilized to extract the input target orthotropic stiffness components. The results show that the identification accuracy of the anisotropic parameters is highly dependent on the heterogeneity of the stress/strain distributions. Also, the identification results are unstable for different time steps but can be significantly improved using a minimization algorithm on multiple time steps. Finally, the influences of noise, impact speed and loading mode are analyzed in the sensitivity study.

The present work investigates the problem of a cylindrical crack in a functionally graded cylinder under thermal impact by using the non-Fourier heat conduction model. The theoretical derivation is performed by methods of Fourier integral transform, Laplace transform, and Cauchy singular integral equation. The concept of heat flux intensity factor is introduced to investigate the heat concentration degree around the crack tip quantitatively. The temperature field and the heat flux intensity factor in the time domain are obtained by transforming the corresponding quantities from the Laplace domain numerically. The effects of heat conduction model, functionally graded parameter, and thermal resistance of crack on the temperature distribution and heat flux intensity factor are studied. This work is beneficial for the thermal design of functionally graded cylinder containing a cylindrical crack.

The elevating servo system (ESS) of vehicle-mounted howitzer (VMH) is a typical closed-loop electrohydraulic position servo system, and the faults of its actuator and sensor seriously affect the safety and reliability of the system. In practice, model uncertainty, nonlinearities, unknown disturbance, and output noise present enormous challenges to conduct fault detection of the system. In the current paper, an online fault detection scheme using the sliding mode technology is proposed. Not only the derivation method of state equation and some common fault expressions but also a new design of sliding mode observer with the ability to eliminate the influences of the above factors on detection results is given. The observer’s parameter matrices are obtained by the linear matrix inequality. To promote the fault detection capability, a statistical-based dynamic threshold is developed to detect actuator faults and sensor faults simultaneously. Finally, experimental studies are implemented on a test rig for validating the system model, and the results of four experiments show the effectiveness of proposed methods.

As a newly developed gun barrel steel, the novel steel has shown excellent high-temperature strength, high resistance to wear and erosion, contributing to the superior ballistic life of gun barrels. As ballistic life increases, the fatigue life becomes essential for the safety and reliability of gun barrels. This paper presents a comparison of the low cycle fatigue (LCF) behaviors between a novel steel and 30SiMn2MoV steel at 700 °C. A strain-controlled fatigue test was carried out on the novel steel and 30SiMn2MoV steel in the strain range from 0.2 to 0.6%. The cyclic stress response behaviors of the novel steel and 30SiMn2MoV steel show cyclic softening behavior. In addition, the shape of the hysteresis rings of the novel steel and 30SiMn2MoV steel exhibit no-Masing model behavior. Energy–life relationships results show that the novel steel has higher fatigue resistance than the 30SiMn2MoV steel at 700 °C. The results of fatigue fracture analysis show that the failure mode of the 30SiMn2MoV steel is a mixed mode of intergranular fracture and transgranular fracture, while the failure mode of the novel steel is intergranular fracture. The cyclic softening of the two materials can be attributed to the lath structure with a high density of dislocations gradually transforms into low energy subcrystalline and cellular structures at 700 °C. The novel steel has a better fatigue life than the 30SiMn2MoV steel at 700 °C and different strain amplitudes, which is mainly related to the carbides and lath martensite in the materials.

The sewage discharge of industrial wastewater seriously pollutes the water source and rivers, which is very harmful to the health of humans and wildlife. Among those methods for treating wastewater, photocatalysis is a sustainable and environmental-friendly technique for removing the organic pollutants with no secondary pollution. As a popular photocatalyst, graphene/metal oxide nanocomposites have been widely reported in the photocatalysis field. In this review, the recent progress of graphene/metal oxide composites including binary and ternary composites is summarized in detail. The synthesis, microstructure design, and application performance of graphene/TiO2, graphene/ZnO, graphene/SnO2, graphene/WO3, graphene/Fe2O3, and graphene/Cu2O composites are introduced firstly. Then, the synthesis, the selection of components, and the performance of various ternary composites are summarized specifically, including graphene/TiO2-, graphene/ZnO-, graphene/SnO2-, graphene/Cu2O-, graphene/FexOy-, and graphene/Bi-containing ternary composites. At last, the possible research directions of graphene/metal oxide nanocomposites are put forward. The main purpose is to provide a theoretical guidance for designing high-performance graphene/metal oxide photocatalysts for wastewater treatment.

A special gas-phase diffusion precipitation method with ammonia as the gas-phase diffusion precipitant was adopted. After fully reacting with different cobalt sources in a sealed space, the liquid funnel was separated and dried, and calcined at different temperatures for 2 h. The prepared Co3O4 powder was used as a supercapacitor (SCs) electrode to measure the electrochemical properties of the prepared material. The influences of different cobalt sources and sodium phosphate monobasic dehydrate on the preparation of Co3O4 SCs electrodes were investigated. The optimal performance of Co3O4 was 640 F·g−1 before modification, and this reached 1140 F·g−1 after modification, which was an improvement of 78.1%.

With the urgent requirement for high-performance rechargeable Li-S batteries, besides various carbon materials and metal compounds, lots of conducting polymers have been developed and used as components in Li-S batteries. In this review, the synthesis of polyaniline (PANI), polypyrrole (PPy) and polythiophene (PTh) is introduced briefly. Then, the application progress of the three conducting polymers is summarized according to the function in Li-S batteries, including coating layers, conductive hosts, sulfur-containing compounds, separator modifier/functional interlayer, binder and current collector. Finally, according to the current problems of conducting polymers, some practical strategies and potential research directions are put forward. We expect that this review will provide novel design ideas to develop conducting polymer-containing high-performance Li-S batteries.

Electrode materials are crucial for the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors. In view of the high specific surface area, high conductivity of graphene nanosheets and the high pseudocapacitance of polyaniline (PANI), the combination of graphene with PANI has become a research hotspot. In this work, we summarize the recent advance on the synthesis of PANI and graphene/PANI composites, and their application in supercapacitors. The synthesis of PANI is the basis of preparing graphene/PANI composites, so we first introduce the synthesis methods of PANI. Then, the advances of two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) graphene/PANI composites are summarized according to the inherent feature of graphene. The 2D composites of pristine graphene and functionalized graphene with PANI are introduced separately; furthermore, the 3D composites are classified into three sections, including flexible graphene/PANI composites, graphene framework based composites, and printable graphene/PANI composites. At last, aiming at solving the current challenges of graphene/PANI composites, we put forward some strategies for preparing high performance graphene/PANI composite electrodes.
