To compare the utility of the Chinese diagnostic criteria for Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease (CDCV), the revised diagnostic criteria (RDC) and the classification criteria by SUN (SUN-C).Two groups of patients (VKH group and non-VKH group) were assessed in this retrospective case-control study. Sensitivity, specificity and area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were evaluated among these criteria.258 patients were included after propensity score matching. The sensitivities were 92.2% in CDCV, 66.7% in RDC, and 54.3% in SUN-C. In different disease stages (early and late), similar sensitivity results were observed. The specificities were 96.1% in CDCV, 97.7% in RDC, and 99.2% in SUN-C. The AUCs were 0.942 in CDCV, 0.822 in RDC and 0.767 in SUN-C.A higher sensitivity value and larger AUC in CDCV were found. CDCV are highly useful in the diagnosis and classification of VKH disease in Chinese patients.

Background: Laryngeal cancer is one of the most common tumors in the head and neck. Uncertainty of targets, mechanisms, and lack of effective drugs largely limit laryngeal cancer prevention and clinical treatment. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop new drug candidates to prevent and treat laryngeal cancer. Methods: In this study, laryngeal cancer Tu212 and Tu686 cells were treated with different concentrations of sulindac, and their effects on the proliferation, cell cycle, and apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells were detected by CCK-8, clone formation assay, and flow cytometry; Western-blot was used to detect the effects of sulindac on proliferation and apoptosis-related proteins. Results: Sulindac can dose-dependently block the G1/S phase of the laryngeal cancer Tu686 and Tu212 cell cycle to inhibit cell proliferation and significantly induce laryngeal cancer cell apoptosis. Besides, Western blotting also confirmed that the relative expressions of cell cycle-related proteins CyclinD1 and c-Myc were down-regulated; apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2, Caspase-3, and Survivin were down-regulated, Bax and Cleaved caspase-3 were up-regulated. In addition, sulindac can down-regulate the expression of p-Akt and β-catenin. Conclusion: Our study found that sulindac can inhibit the proliferation of laryngeal cancer cells and induce apoptosis by down-regulating the expression of the AKT/β-catenin pathway. Research on the anti-laryngeal cancer properties of sulindac is still very scarce. Our research provides an important theoretical basis for the clinical application of sulindac in the prevention and treatment of laryngeal cancer.

The late Quaternary shallow-water carbonates have been altered by a variety of diagenetic processes, and further influenced by high-amplitude global and regional sea level changes. This study utilizes a new borehole drilled on the Yongxing Island, Xisha Islands to investigate meteoric diagenetic alteration in the late Quaternary shallow-water carbonates. Petrographic, mineralogical, stable isotopic and elemental data provide new insights into the meteoric diagenetic processes of the reef limestone. The results show the variation in the distribution of aragonite, high-Mg calcite (HMC) and low-Mg calcite (LMC) divides the shallow-water carbonates in Core SSZK1 into three intervals, which are Unit I (31.20–55.92 m, LMC), Unit II (18.39–31.20 m, aragonite and LMC) and Unit III (upper 18.39 m of core, aragonite, LMC and HMC). Various degrees of meteoric diagenesis exist in the identified three units. The lowermost Unit I has suffered almost complete freshwater diagenesis, whereas the overlying Units II and III have undergone incompletely meteoric diagenesis. The amount of time that limestone has been in the freshwater diagenetic environment has the largest impact on the degree of meteoric diagenesis. Approximately four intact facies/water depth cycles are recognized. The cumulative depletion of elements such as strontium (Sr), sodium (Na) and sulphur (S) caused by duplicated meteoric diagenesis in the older reef sequences are distinguished from the younger reef sequences. This study provides a new record of meteoric diagenesis, which is well reflected by whole-rock mineralogy and geochemistry.

Purpose There has been growing interest in the association between periodontitis and systemic disease. In recent years, however, inconsistent results have also been found by case-control studies for the role of periodontitis in the development of oral cancer. This study aimed to examine whether periodontitis was an independent risk factor for oral cancer with a ≥75-year age group cohort. Materials and methods Between January 2010 and December 2014, 1385 patients aged ≥75 years who underwent radiographic examination were included in this retrospective cohort study. We collected demographic information and comorbid health conditions from local health authorities. Participants were followed up until either the occurrence of mortality, or the end of the study on December 31, 2018. Cox proportional hazards regression and competing risk hazard models were used to examine the association between periodontitis and oral cancer mortality. Results Periodontitis and loss of teeth were significantly associated with oral cancer mortality. Compared to oral cancer mortality in healthy subjects, the HR and 95% CI in patients with mild, moderate, and severe periodontitis were 4.46 (0.94-21.06), 5.16 (1.14-23.39), and 6.65 (1.51-29.36), respectively. The HR (95% CI) was 1.05 (1.01-1.09) for tooth loss after controlling for potential confounding factors. All the increases in risk persisted in patients aged ≥80 years. Conclusion The present study provides substantial evidence that poor periodontal health is associated with oral cancer mortality. It is necessary to underline the importance of considering periodontitis in the prevention of oral cancer, particularly in the older patients.

BACKGROUND The present organ shortage has led to increased use of kidneys from expanded-criteria donors, but the prognosis is disappointing due to poor graft quality. As a promising kidney protector, the Klotho gene's role in predicting short-term prognosis has not been assessed. MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed data from 41 recipients and 25 donors. Multiple clinical variables were compared between different subgroups of donors or their corresponding recipients. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was used to evaluate the distinguishing ability. Dynamic changes in serum Klotho, FGF-23, and urinary NGAL were assessed. RESULTS Serum Klotho level was significantly lower in donors age ≥50 years (p=0.017), and there was a moderate negative correlation between serum Klotho expression and age (r=-0.464, p=0.019). Moreover, detection of Klotho mRNA and immunohistochemical analysis in kidneys revealed the same trend as in serum. Furthermore, for older donors (age ≥50 years), serum Klotho level had a strong negative correlation with recipient eGFR 1 month post-transplant (r=-0.686, p=0.007), which was proved to be a good predictor for estimating graft function by ROC analysis. Additionally, during the post-transplant follow-up, serum Klotho levels increased slightly after a temporary decline, while serum FGF-23 and urinary NGAL decreased significantly and then stayed low thereafter. CONCLUSIONS Klotho level, which decreases with age, may be a potential predictor of short-term renal function, especially for grafts from older donors.

As an information carrier with rich semantics, image plays an increasingly important role in real-time monitoring of logistics management. Abnormal objects are typically closely related to the specific region. Detecting abnormal objects in the specific region is conducive to improving the accuracy of detection and analysis, thereby improving the level of logistics management. Motivated by these observations, we design the method called abnormal object detection in a specific region based on Mask R-convolutional neural network: Abnormal Object Detection in Specific Region. In this method, the initial instance segmentation model is obtained by the traditional Mask R-convolutional neural network method, then the region overlap of the specific region is calculated and the overlapping ratio of each instance is determined, and these two parts of information are fused to predict the exceptional object. Finally, the abnormal object is restored and detected in the original image. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed Abnormal Object Detection in Specific Region can effectively identify abnormal objects in a specific region and significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Dynamic flow in vitro models are currently widely explored for their applicability in drug development research. The application of gut-on-chip models in toxicology is lagging behind. Here we report the application of a gut-on-chip model for biokinetic studies and compare the observed biokinetics of reference compounds with those obtained using a conventional static in vitro model. Intestinal epithelial Caco-2 cells were cultured on a porous membrane assembled between two glass flow chambers for the dynamic model, or on a porous membrane in a Transwell model. Confocal microscopy, lucifer yellow translocation, and alkaline phosphatase activity evaluation revealed that cells cultured in the gut-on-chip model formed tight, differentiated, polarized monolayers like in the static cultures. In the dynamic gut-on-chip model the transport of the high permeability compounds antipyrine, ketoprofen and digoxin was lower (i.e. 4.2-, 2.7- and 1.9-fold respectively) compared to the transport in the static Transwell model. The transport of the low permeability compound, amoxicillin, was similar in both the dynamic and static in vitro model. The obtained transport values of the compounds are in line with the compound Biopharmaceuticals Classification System. It is concluded that the gut-on-chip provides an adequate model for transport studies of chemicals.

Evidence for an association between periodontitis and respiratory disease in the older patients is limited. Additionally, little information exists regarding the role of potential effect modifiers. The aim of this study is to examine whether periodontitis increases the risk of respiratory disease mortality in older patients. Between January 2010 and December 2014, 1385 patients aged 75 years and above who underwent radiographic examination in the largest dental hospital in Shanghai, China were included in this retrospective cohort study. The dental examination was made with the panoramic radiographs. Demographic information and comorbid health conditions were collected from local health authorities. Participant follow up was continued until either the occurrence of mortality, or the end of the study on December 31, 2018. Cox proportional hazards regression and competing risk hazard models were performed to examine the association between periodontitis and respiratory disease mortality. We found that periodontitis was associated with total respiratory disease mortality. Compared with healthy participants, the hazards ratio and 95% confidence interval for total respiratory disease mortality in patients with severe periodontitis was 2.72(1.04,7.11) after adjusting for relevant confounding variables. With increasing severity of periodontitis, risks for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) mortality also increased significantly (P = .038). A series of magnetic composite adsorbents with core-brush topology were prepared through grafting co-polymerization on the surface of chitosan/Fe3O4 composite particles (CS-MCP), and then applied for the removal of two pharmaceuticals (diclofenac sodium (DCF) and tetracycline hydrochloride) from water. Adsorption performance evaluation, including adsorption capacities from single- and binary-solute solutions at different pHs, influences of coexisting salts, desorption and reusability, demonstrated CD-MCP with polycationic brushes was a cost-effective adsorbent for DCF removal: Compared to CS-MCP, all the modified MCPs exhibited higher removal efficiencies, due to the enhanced surface areas resulting from core-brush topology; Among the modified MCPs with different surface charges, CD-MCP displayed the highest adsorption capacities, attributed to the electrostatic attraction between the positively charged brushes and the anionic contaminant’s species. Adsorption mechanism was investigated from both the macroscopic (thermodynamics and kinetics) and microscopic (changes of solution pH and spectral analyses of the adsorbent after adsorption) viewpoints: Charge attraction was the intrinsic driving force; A monolayer coverage of pharmaceuticals were adsorbed onto the brushes of CD-MCP; OH− exerted competitive adsorption effect; After adsorption, the originally extended polycationic brushes turned collapsed. The current study provided a strategy for the design of adsorbents from both topological and chemical structures.

Modulation of alloimmune responses is critical to improving transplant outcome and promoting long-term graft survival. To determine mechanisms by which a nonhematopoietic erythropoietin (EPO) derivative, carbamylated EPO (CEPO), regulates innate and adaptive immune cells and affects renal allograft survival, we utilized a rat model of fully MHC-mismatched kidney transplantation. CEPO administration markedly extended the survival time of kidney allografts compared with the transplant alone control group. This therapeutic effect was inhibited when the recipients were given LY294002, a selective inhibitor of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway or anti-EPO receptor (EPOR) antibody, in addition to CEPO. In vitro, CEPO inhibited the differentiation and function of dendritic cells and modulated their production of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, along with activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and increasing EPOR mRNA and protein expression by these innate immune cells. Moreover, after CD4+ T cells were exposed to CEPO the Th1/Th2 ratio decreased and the regulatory T cell (Treg)/Th17 ratio increased. These effects were abolished by LY294002 or anti-EPOR antibody, suggesting that CEPO regulates immune responses and promotes kidney allograft survival by activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in an EPOR-dependent manner. The immunomodulatory and specific signaling pathway effects of CEPO identified in this study suggest a potential therapeutic approach to promoting kidney transplant survival.

Weak interaction between flocculants and antibiotics is a limitation in the flocculation of combined contaminants of heavy metals and antibiotics. To solve this problem, a novel chitosan-based flocculant (BDAT-CTS) owning functional groups of aromatic rings, which possessed potential to interact with other aromatic rings in antibiotics, was synthesized and applied to remove Cu(II) and tetracycline (TC) from water. Effects of pH, flocculant dosage and initial contaminant concentration were studied in detail. In comparison with previous reported chitosan-based flocculant without aromatic rings structure, BDAT-CTS enjoyed significantly enhanced removal efficiency in the treatment of binary contaminants. The highest removal efficiencies of TC and Cu(II) could reach to 98.8% and 94.0%, respectively, under the corresponding optimal conditions. The improved performance was attributed to the strong triangle pairwise interactions among BDAT-CTS, Cu(II) and TC according to flocculation mechanism investigation: besides charge attraction and coordination of BDAT-CTS–Cu(II), and coordination of Cu(II)–TC, there also exists π–π stacking between the triazine rings in BDAT-CTS and the aromatic rings in TC. The current work provided valuable guidance in the design of eco-friendly polymeric flocculants in the treatment of combined water contamination of heavy metals and antibiotics.

When conducting endovascular interventional surgery, doctors usually experience high viscous resistance resulting from direct contact with blood when operating the guide wire in blood vessels, which reduces the operational efficiency. Improper operation can cause vascular injuries and greatly reduce surgical safety, sometimes leading to the death of the patient. This paper presents a new method that applies transverse microvibrations at the proximal end of a conventional passive guide wire to reduce viscous resistance. The effect of the proposed method in reducing the viscous resistance in the fluid is studied. The influences of the tube diameter, medium density, and applied vibration frequency on the viscous force are investigated. Finally, for endovascular therapy, a mathematical model of the viscous force of the guide wire based on the proposed method is established in the environment of human blood vessels to predict the magnitude of the viscous force exerted on the guide wire and analyze the drag reduction effect of the proposed method. The effectiveness of the proposed method in drag reduction and its feasibility in improving surgical safety are experimentally demonstrated. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method can assist the doctor during complicated and variable operation conditions.

Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases have become the first threat of human health. With the development of interventional surgery, minor trauma, safety and high efficiency have become the focus of today's technological development. However, doctors are exposed to a large amount of X-ray radiation during surgery, which causes great damage to the doctors. So master-slave interventional surgical robot systems have developed rapidly. And the accuracy of the interventional robot directly determines the safety and reliability of the operation. Therefore, this paper designs a new type of slave device and control algorithm to improve the control accuracy of the interventional robot. This paper proposes a novel master-slave robotic system with close loop control for vascular interventional surgery. By adding a rotary encoder coaxial with the guide wire holder, it is used to detect the actual rotation angle of the guidewire and a linear position sensor fixedly connected with the guidewire clamper detects the axial displacement of the guide wire to form a closed-loop control to improve guidewire rotation and linear control accuracy. The results show that with the closed loop control of the guide wire, the average following error of the linear control of the guide wire is 0.912 mm, and the linear control average error is reduced by 63.96% compared to the system without feedback. The average following error of the rotation control is 1.311°, and the mean error of the rotation control is reduced by 43.47% compared to the non-feedback system. It indicates that the closed-loop control system has a good effect on improving the control accuracy of the surgery robot.

The present study sought to examine for how loneliness and sexual assault are involved in predicting suicidal risk (viz., hopelessness & suicide probability) in a sample of 334 college students. Specifically, we were interested in examining whether sexual assault may play an additive as well as interactive role in the prediction of suicidal risk above and beyond loneliness. RESULTS from regression analyses indicated that both loneliness and sexual assault were important and unique predictors of suicidal risk in students. Moreover, consistent with expectations, we found support for a Loneliness × Sexual Assault interaction in predicting both hopelessness and suicide probability. Inspection of the interactions indicated that the highest levels of suicidal risk were present for lonely students who had experienced some form of sexual assault. Some important implications of the present findings are discussed.

Recently, robotics and computing technology plays an increasing important role in the evolution of modern vascular interventional surgery (VIS). During operation procedure, thrust force and torque that surgeon applied to catheter is one of the most significant information for statistical analysis of surgery procedure and robotic assisting surgery system. Online precision detection of catheter thrust force and torque with minimized interference to surgeon is a critical issue. A novel sensing device is proposed to detect catheter operation force during surgery operation. Based on strain gauge principle and elegant structure design of elastic component, the proposed sensing device achieves trust force detection and torque detection simultaneously with a compact structure. The experimental equipment is developed for calibration and evaluation of the proposed sensing device. It can be seen from experimental results that the maximum torque and force detecting error of designed force/torque sensing device are 3.2 mN·m and 1.237N respectively. The maximum relative torque and force detecting error are 15.238% and 14.56%. The average error of torque and force detecting are 0.455mN·m and 0.0278N. The average relation error of torque and force detection are 2.13% and 0.327% respectively. The root-mean-square error of torque and force detection are 0.164mN.m and 0.267N. It indicates that the proposed catheter operation force detection device is rational.

The vascular minimally invasive intervention is a new type of medical technology with medical catheter and guide wire as the main surgical equipment which is for remote minimally invasive treatment of vascular disease. It is widely used for its advantages, such as smaller trauma, shorter recovery and less pain. But there are many deficiencies limiting the continued development of vascular intervention surgery: Serious damage of X-ray to the doctor during the surgery; high dependence on the doctor's experience and technique; low surgical efficiency and safety. Through the study and analysis of the interventional operation, the doctors will usually be subjected to the resistance when operating the catheter and the guide wire during the surgery. In some special condition, the suffered resistance would be larger. The improper operation will cause blood vessel damage. In the course of the actual operation, the catheter and the guide wire in the human blood vessels will suffer the viscous resistance from the blood. It affects the operation and efficiency of the doctors, as well as the safety of surgery. At the same time, the research about the viscous resistance of the catheters and the guide wire during the surgery in the field is still in a blank, and there is no research method that can reduce this resistance. In order to solve these problems, this paper has carried on the research on the mechanism of the viscous force of the catheter and the guide wire in surgery, and pioneers a method to supplement the micro-vibration in the proximal end of the guide wire. This method can reduce the viscous force of the catheter and the guide wire exerted by the blood during the push process, improve the surgical safety and the smoothness of the operation.

At this time, centrum cerebrovascular diseases (CCVd) have been a serious threaten to human being's health. Compared with traditional therapeutic method for treating CCVd, the vascular interventional surgery is like to be accepted by patients and clinicians now because it can reduce patients' pain and permit a faster recovery, and it's more like to be used in treating cerebral vascular diseases rather than only in the therapeutic areas of cardiovascular diseases, which needs more accuracy and convenience of the medical equipment. As we know, the blood is very viscous, and there is many friction when the catheter moving in the blood vessel, and many other reasons that impede the catheter move. So we should find some way to avoid this situation. Adding vibration to catheter is a good way for this problem. Therefore, it is essential to realize that it's very meaningful to find out a new method and design a novel device to add vibration to the catheter in the vascular interventional surgery. This paper proposes a new method that guide the catheter with micro vibration, and design a novel device to realize it after studying on vibration of the piezoelectric plate. It is shown that the novel device can conduct the vibration to the catheter well, and it can be the basis of our further research.

The Relict Gull (Larus relictus) is recognized as a vulnerable species, with a worldwide population of about 6,000 individuals. Always inhabiting the extreme arid regions of Central Asia, their migratory routes and winter grounds are unclear. This research focused on distribution sites, habitat, behavior, population size and seasonal changes of Relict Gull. Line transects and point counts in every month were used to investigate the gulls around the Ebinur Lake. The result showed Relict Gull was summer visitor to Xinjiang, Western China. Population curve with a single peak was obtained. This gull appeared in early April and was 63 individuals (1% of the global population). The number remained stable from May to July in 2009. The discovery of fledglings indi- cates that Relict Gull may breed here. They left Ebinur Lake in August. Relict Gull in Ebinur Lake should belong to the Central Asian subpopulation, which was the most westerly record in China.

Nitrogen-doped ZnO nanocrystallites with primary diameter in the range of 30–50 nm were synthesized rapidly by self-assembly combustion technique using urea and citric acid as fuels, zinc nitrate as oxidant. The variation of adiabatic flame temperature with the various fuel compounds was calculated theoretically according to the thermodynamic concept. XRD, SEM and XPS were used to characterize the as-synthesized products. The anti-ultraviolet and anti-bacterium ability of the products were estimated by testing the UPF index and repressing-bacterium circle diameter of the cotton fabrics, which were treated using the as-synthesized products. The results show that a small quantity of citric acid has excellent coordinated action with urea and accelerates the nitrogen doping reaction course, obtaining perfect nitrogen-doped ZnO nanocrystallites with uniform color and particles size. The analysis of XPS spectrum shows that the nitrogen incorporation produces an N–O bonding region. The incorporation of nitrogen greatly improves the anti-ultraviolet and anti-bacterium properties of ZnO nanocrystallites, which can be attributed to the change of surface properties of nitrogen-doped ZnO, such as O vacancies and crystal deficiency.
