31. Simple Preparation of Waste Boron Nitride/C3N4 Composites and Simulated Solar Photocatalytic Performance.

Abstract

In industrial production, the preparation of cubic boron nitride (cBN) under high temperature and pressure wastes a large amount of unreacted hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). This study aims to use this BN waste (wBN) as a raw material, composite it with g-C3N4 to construct wBN/g-C3N4 composites, and apply the composites in the field of photocatalysis. wBN/g-C3N4 composites were prepared by simple calcination using wBN and ammonium cyanide as raw materials. Results showed that a heterogeneous structure was formed in the composite photocatalyst, with a decrease in its bandgap width and a significant increase in its ability to absorb light. The simulated sunlight photocatalytic activity of composite photocatalysts was significantly better than that of single wBN or g-C3N4. The photocatalytic performance of B2 sample, composed of a 4:3 ratio of wBN and melamine in the raw materials, demonstrated the highest efficiency. Under simulated solar illumination, it was capable of degrading 99.3% of MB within 60 min. The experimental results with additional capture agents indicated that the main reactive species of the composite photocatalyst were superoxide radicals (·O2−) and holes (h+). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Thermoplastic high-ortho phenolic resins (HOP-PRs) were blended with thermosetting high-ortho phenolic resins (HOT-PRs), and the resulting blended modified phenolic as-spun fibers (AFs) were obtained through wet spinning. The blended modified phenolic fibers (o-BPFs) were prepared using various curing methods, including solution thermal curing (STC) and microwave thermal curing (MTC). The characterization was performed using such techniques as infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), fibers strength testing, and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the blend modification by introducing HOP-PRs improved the spinnability of the fibers. With the assistance of microwaves, +CH2OH also reacted more fully with the phenolic rings inside the fibers, while the cross-linking degree of the fibers was also improved by heat treatment. Therefore, the MTC fibers showed the best mechanical properties with an elongation of 3.3% and a tensile strength of 124.4 MPa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

33. Experimental and Quantum Chemical Studies of a Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Mild Steel in Acidic Chloride Solution.

Abstract

A green corrosion inhibitor was prepared from the bio‐based platform compound 5‐hydroxymethylfurfural through a green synthetic route, which avoid the use of toxic reagent. The inhibition performance and mechanism of this compound for the corrosion of mild steel in 0.1 M HCl was investigated by using the weight loss experiments, polarization measurements, EIS measurements and quantum chemical calculations. The corrosion inhibition efficiency by weight loss measurement (ηWLM%) of this inhibitor can reach up to 90.3 % at 303 K with 1.2 mM concentration. Moreover, the electrochemical experiments revealed that this corrosion inhibitor acts as a mixed‐type inhibitor. Thermodynamic studies gave the values of the standard Gibbs free energy ΔGads0 ${{\rm \Delta }{G}_{ads}^{0}}$ , fall within the range of −20 kJ/mol to −40 kJ/mol, suggested the adsorption of this compound is a spontaneous process involving both physisorption and chemisorption. In addition, quantum chemical calculations were conducted to further validate the formation of an effective absorption layer by this inhibitor on metal surfaces, which showed that the electron density iso‐surfaces of HOMO was mainly distributed on chloride ions, while LUMO tended to be distributed on furan rings and aldehyde groups. Besides, the other quantum chemical parameters of this inhibitor were also calculated to explore the molecular activity, such as, the molecular volume (ν, 333.105 Å), global hardness (η, 4.706 eV), global softness (σ, 0.2125 eV), electronegativity (χ, 4.93 eV), dipolemoment (μ, 13.1429 D) and vertical ionization energy (VIE, 7.2646 eV). Abstract

The natural indigo was embedded evenly in the fiber by a wet-spinning process. The fabric showed good dyeing uniformity. Although no mordant was used, good colorfastness was acquired.
