Abstract Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common male genitourinary system malignancies. Despite the significant benefits of anti-PD-L1 immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy in other cancers, the reasons for its poor therapeutic efficacy in prostate cancer (PCa) remain unclear.NDR1 plays an important role in innate immunity, but its role in tumor immunity and immunotherapy has not been investigated. The role of NDR1 in the immune microenvironment of PCa and the related mechanisms are unknown. Here, we found a positive correlation between NDR1 and PD-L1 expression in PCa. NDR1 significantly inhibits CD8 + T cell infiltration and function, thereby promoting immune escape in prostate cancer.More importantly, NDR1 inhibition significantly enhanced CD8 + T cell activation, which enhanced the therapeutic effect of anti-PD-L1. Mechanistic studies revealed that NDR1 inhibits ubiquitination-mediated PD-L1 degradation via the deubiquitinase USP10, upregulates PD-L1, and promotes PCa immune escape. Thus, our study suggests a unique PD-L1 regulatory mechanism underlying PCa immunotherapy failure. The significance of NDR1 in PCa immune escape and its mechanism of action were clarified, and combined NDR1/PD-L1 inhibition was suggested as an approach to boost PCa immunotherapy effectiveness. Abstract Depression has been reported as one of the most prevalent psychiatric illnesses globally. This study aimed to obtain information on the global burden of depression and its associated spatiotemporal variation, by exploring the correlation between the global burden of depression and the social development index (SDI) and associated risk factors. Using data from the Global Burden of Disease study from 1990 to 2019, we described the prevalence and burden of disease in 204 countries across 21 regions, including sex and age differences and the relationship between the global disease burden and SDI. The age-standardized rate and estimated annual percentage change were used to assess the global burden of depression. Individuals with documented depression globally ranged from 182,183,358 in 1990 to 290,185,742 in 2019, representing an increase of 0.59%. More patients experienced major depressive disorder than dysthymia. The incidence and disability-adjusted life years of depression were the highest in the 60–64 age group and much higher in females than in males, with this trend occurring across all ages. The age-standardized incidence and adjusted life-years-disability rates varied with different SDI levels. Relevant risk factors for depression were identified. National governments must support research to improve prevention and treatment interventions.

Abstract Objectives To develop and validate radiomics model based on computed tomography (CT) for preoperative prediction of CN0 status in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Methods A total of 548 pathologically confirmed LNs (243 non-metastatic and 305 metastatic) two distinct hospitals were retrospectively assessed. A total of 396 radiomics features were extracted from arterial-phase CT images, where the strongest features containing the most predictive potential were further selected using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression method. Delong test was used to compare the AUC values of training set, test sets and cN0 group. Results The Rad-score showed good discriminating performance with Area Under the ROC Curve (AUC) of 0.917(95% CI, 0.884 to 0.950), 0.892 (95% CI, 0.833 to 0.950) and 0.921 (95% CI, 868 to 0.973) in the training, internal validation cohort and external validation cohort, respectively. The test group of CN0 with a AUC of 0.892 (95% CI, 0.805 to 0.979). The accuracy was 85.4% (sensitivity = 81.3%; specificity = 88.9%) in the training cohort, 82.9% (sensitivity = 79.0%; specificity = 88.7%) in the internal validation cohort, 85.4% (sensitivity = 89.7%; specificity = 83.8%) in the external validation cohort, 86.7% (sensitivity = 83.8%; specificity = 91.3%) in the CN0 test group.The calibration curve demonstrated a significant Rad-score (P-value in H-L test > 0.05). The decision curve analysis indicated that the rad-score was clinically useful. Conclusions Radiomics has shown great diagnostic potential to preoperatively predict the status of cN0 in PTC.

Abstract This study assessed the global and regional burden of IS (ischemic stroke) deaths due to LPA (low physical activity) from 1990 to 2019, analyzed regional, sex, and age differences in ASMR (age-standardized mortality rate), and provided a comprehensive understanding of the impact of age, period, and cohort on low physical activity related ischemic stroke ASMR. We conducted an APC (age-period-cohort) analysis of the global and four World Bank income level regions’ IS mortality data attributed to LPA from 1990 to 2019, using the GBD2019 database, and the results showed that the global net drift of the Ischemic stroke age-standardized mortality attributable to low physical activity was − 1.085%[95% CI: − 1.168, − 1.003].The ASMR drop is most pronounced in the high-income zone, with a net drift of − 2.473% [95% CI: − 2.759, − 2.187] across the four income groups. The influence of age on mortality is increasing in the worldwide old population, while the period and cohort effects are decreasing. We also performed a Joinpoint regression analysis, which revealed that the specific time of considerable drop in ASMR of IS in the global LPA population was 2002–2007, with an APC of -2.628%. The specific period of considerable drop in ASMR in high-income regions with the highest variation was 1999–2007, with an APC = − 4.726%. The global burden of public health deaths caused by LPA is diminishing, with the most notable progress observed in high-income regions. However, in low and lower-middle income areas, the situation continues to deteriorate. Within the global elderly population, the effects of age on mortality is increasing, while the effects of period and cohort are diminishing. These trends vary across income levels, highlighting the necessity for enhanced international collaboration to formulate context-specific public health strategies aimed at enhancing cardiovascular health on a global, regional, and national scale.

Due to their inherent nature, each type of microorganism exhibits unique resistance to various disinfection processes. Disinfection with nanomaterials represents a promising technology that has garnered significant interest. Among them, ZIF material has antibacterial and antiviral activities, and ZIF-67 material is a new type of nanomaterial that can effectively kill bacteria and viruses, with the potential for large-scale use. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate the differences between nanomaterial disinfection techniques (employing ZIF-67) and traditional inactivation techniques (e.g., ultraviolet-C and ozone). Phage MS2 and PhiX174 and their respective host E. coli were chosen as the representative microorganisms. Our findings indicate that phages exhibit greater resistance to ZIF-67 and traditional disinfection techniques than bacteria, but different techniques show specific disinfection effects on the three disinfection microorganisms. Considering the differences, choosing appropriate disinfection techniques based on the characteristics of the disinfected substances in practical disinfection technology selection is essential.

The sudden outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in early 2020 posed a massive threat to human life and caused an economic upheaval worldwide. Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) became susceptible to infection during the COVID-19 pandemic owing to their use of immunosuppressants, resulting in increased hospitalization and mortality rates. Although the current epidemic situation is alleviated, the long-term existence of COVID-19 still seriously threatens the life and health of KTRs with low immunity. The Omicron variant, a highly infectious but less-pathogenic strain of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has raised concerns among transplant physicians regarding managing KTRs diagnosed with this variant. However, currently, there are no clear and unified guidelines for caring for KTRs infected with this variant. Therefore, we aimed to summarize the ongoing research on drugs that can treat Omicron variant infections in KTRs and explore the potential of adjusting immunotherapy strategies to enhance their responsiveness to vaccines. Herein, we discuss the situation of KTRs since the emergence of COVID-19 and focus on various prevention and treatment strategies for KTRs since the Omicron variant outbreak. We hope to assist physicians in managing KTRs in the presence of long-term COVID-19 variants.

Prostatic cancer (PCa) is a common malignant neoplasm in men worldwide. Most patients develop castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) after treatment with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), usually resulting in death. Therefore, investigating new therapeutic targets and drugs for PCa patients is urgently needed. Nuclear Dbf2-related kinase 1 (NDR1), also known as STK38, is a serine/threonine kinase in the NDR/LATS kinase family that plays a critical role in cellular processes, including immunity, inflammation, metastasis, and tumorigenesis. It was reported that NDR1 inhibited the metastasis of prostate cancer cells by suppressing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and decreased NDR1 expression might lead to a poorer prognosis, suggesting the enormous potential of NDR1 in antitumorigenesis. In this study, we characterized a small-molecule agonist named aNDR1, which specifically bound to NDR1 and potently promoted NDR1 expression, enzymatic activity and phosphorylation. aNDR1 exhibited drug-like properties, such as favorable stability, plasma protein binding capacity, cell membrane permeability, and PCa cell-specific inhibition, while having no obvious effect on normal prostate cells. Meanwhile, aNDR1 exhibited good antitumor activity both in vitro and in vivo. aNDR1 inhibited proliferation and migration of PCa cells and promoted apoptosis of PCa cells in vitro. We further found that aNDR1 inhibited subcutaneous tumors and lung metastatic nodules in vivo, with no obvious toxicity to the body. In summary, our study presents a potential small-molecule lead compound that targets NDR1 for clinical therapy of PCa patients.

Summary: Although anti-PD-L1 therapy has been used in the clinical treatment of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), a proportion of patients are not sensitive to it, which may be attributed to the heterogeneity of PD-L1 expression. Here, we demonstrated that high TOPK (T-LAK cell-originated Protein Kinase) expression in RCC promoted PD-L1 expression by activating ERK2 and TGF-β/Smad pathways. TOPK was positively correlated with PD-L1 expression levels in RCC. Meanwhile, TOPK significantly inhibited the infiltration and function of CD8+ T cells and promoted the immune escape of RCC. Moreover, inhibition of TOPK significantly enhanced CD8+ T cell infiltration, promoted CD8+ T cell activation, enhanced anti-PD-L1 therapeutic efficacy, and synergistically enhanced anti-RCC immune response. In conclusion, this study proposes a new PD-L1 regulatory mechanism that is expected to improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy for RCC.

Ferroptosis, as a novel regulable cell death, is characterized by iron overload, glutathione depletion, and an accumulation of lipid peroxides. Recently, it has been discovered that ferroptosis is involved in ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) and plays a crucial role in renal tubular cell death. In this study, we tried to investigate the effect and mechanism of liproxstatin-1 (Lip-1) in I/R-induced AKI and seek the key regulator of ferroptosis in I/R-induced AKI. Mice were administrated with clamping bilateral renal pedicles for 30 min. We found that early growth response 1 (EGR1) might be a key regulator of ferroptosis, and Lip-1 could suppress ferroptosis via EGR1. Meanwhile, Lip-1 could reduce macrophage recruitment and the release of inflammatory cytokines. These findings indicated that Lip-1 alleviated I/R-induced AKI via regulating EGR1, and it might pave the theoretical basis of a new therapeutic strategy for I/R-induced AKI.

BackgroundDespite progression in its treatment, the clinical outcome of patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remains not ideal. Anoikis is a unique form of programmed apoptosis, owing to insufficient cell-matrix interactions. Anoikis plays a crucial role in tumor migration and invasion, and tumor cells could protect themselves through the capacity of anoikis resistance.MethodsAnoikis-related genes (ARGs) were obtained from Genecards and Harmonizome portals. The ARGs related to ccRCC prognosis were identified through univariate Cox regression analysis, then we utilized these ARGs to construct a novel prognostic model for ccRCC patients. Moreover, we explored the expression profile of ARGs in ccRCC using the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) database. We also conducted Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) to probe ARGs expression of the risk score. Finally, we performed correlation analysis between ARGs and tumor immune microenvironment.ResultsWe identified 17 ARGs associated with ccRCC survival, from which 7 genes were chosen to construct a prognostic model. The prognostic model was verified as an independent prognostic indicator. The expression of most ARGs was higher in ccRCC samples. These ARGs were closely correlated with immune cell infiltration and immune checkpoint members, and had independent prognostic value respectively. Functional enrichment analysis demonstrated that these ARGs were significantly associated with multiple types of malignances.ConclusionThe prognostic signature was identified to be highly efficient in predicting ccRCC prognosis, and these ARGs were closely related to tumor microenvironment.

Abstract TOPK/PBK (T-LAK Cell-Originated Protein Kinase) is a serine/threonine kinase that is highly expressed in a variety of human tumors and is associated with poor prognosis in many types of human malignancies. Its activation mechanism is not yet fully understood. A bidirectional signal transduced between TOPK and ERK2 (extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2) has been reported, with ERK2 able to phosphorylate TOPK at the Thr9 residue. However, mutated TOPK at Thr9 cannot repress cellular transformation. In the present study, Ser32 was revealed to be a novel phosphorylated site on TOPK that could be activated by ERK2. Phospho-TOPK (S32) was found to be involved in the resistance of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) to sorafenib. Herein, combined a TOPK inhibitor with sorafenib could promoted the apoptosis of sorafenib-resistant RCC. High expression of HGF/c-met contributes to activation of p-TOPK (S32) during the development of sorafenib resistance in RCC. The current research presents a possible mechanism of sorafenib resistance in RCC and identifies a potential diagnostic marker for predicting sorafenib resistance in RCC, providing a valuable supplement for the clinically targeted treatment of advanced RCC.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of behaviours such as social distancing in controlling pandemics. Currently, the epidemic is under control in China and production has resumed in various industries. This study investigates the behavioural compliance and related factors for COVID-19 prevention among employees returning to the workplace and provide strategic recommendations for improving individual-level preventive behaviour to prevent a new outbreak. Methods A cross-sectional study design was used. Data were gathered from returning employees in China using an online questionnaire survey, from March to May, 2020. The questionnaire covered participants’ COVID-19-related knowledge, compliance with recommended preventive behaviours, and levels of depression and anxiety. Univariate and multi-factor methods were used to analyse the data and identify factors influencing behaviour compliance. Results Of the 1300 participants completing the full survey, more than half were male (71.92%) and 61% were aged between 31 and 50 years. Six hundred and ninety-eight (53.7%) participants showed high compliance, while 602 (46.3%) showed low compliance. In models adjusted for demographic and socio-economic factors, high education level (odds ratio [OR] = 0.23, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.07–0.70), office staff (OR = 0.51, 95% CI: 0.33–0.78), higher knowledge of COVID-19 (OR = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.67–0.81), and quarantining (OR = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.57–0.96) predicted better compliance with preventive behaviours (P

Intracranial aneurysm is a severe cerebral disorder involving complicated risk factors and endovascular coiling is a common therapeutic selection for intracranial aneurysm. The recurrence is a clinical challenge in intracranial aneurysms after coil embolization. With this study, we provided a meta-analysis of the risk factors for the recurrence of intracranial aneurysm after coil embolization. Nine studies were included with a total of 1,270 studies that were retrieved from the database. The sample size of patients with intracranial aneurysms ranged from 241 to 3,530, and a total of 9,532 patients were included in the present meta-analysis. The intracranial aneurysms that occurred in middle cerebral artery (MCA) (OR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.03–1.16, P = 0.0045) and posterior circulation (OR = 2.01, 95% CI: 1.55–2.60, P = 0.000) presented the significantly higher risk of recurrence after coil embolization. Meanwhile, intracranial aneurysms of size > 7 mm (OR = 5.38, 95%CI: 3.76–7.70, P = 0.000) had a significantly higher risk of recurrence after coil embolization. Moreover, ruptured aneurysm (OR = 2.86, 95% CI: 2.02–4.04, P = 0.000) and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) (OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.20–2.06, P = 0.001) was positively correlated with the risk of recurrence after coil embolization. In conclusion, this meta-analysis identified the characteristics of intracranial aneurysms with MCA, posterior circulation, size > 7 mm, ruptured aneurysm, and SAH as the risk factors of recurrence after coil embolization for intracranial aneurysms.

Abstract Goserelin is an effective alternative to surgery or estrogen therapy in prostate cancer palliation, and possibly to ovariectomy in premenopausal breast cancer. However, not all users of goserelin can benefit from it, or some patients are not sensitive to goserelin. The advent of network pharmacology has highlighted the need for accurate treatment and predictive biomarkers. In this study, we successfully to identify 76 potential targets related to the compound of goserelin through network pharmacology approach. We also identified 18 DEGs in breast cancer tissues and 5 DEGs in cells, and 6 DEGs in prostate cancer tissues and 9 DEGs in cells. CRABP2 is the common DEG both in breast and prostate cancer. The risk prediction models constructed with potential prognostic targets of goserelin can successfully predict the prognosis in breast and prostate cancer, especially for very young breast cancer patients. Moreover, seven subgroups in breast cancer and six subgroups in prostate cancer were respectively identified based on consensus clustering using potential prognostic targets of goserelin that significantly influenced survival. The expression of representative genes including CORO1A and ANXA5 in breast and DPP4 in prostate showed strong correlations with clinic-pathological factors. Taken together, the novel signature can facilitate identification of new biomarkers which sensitive to goserelin, increase the using accuracy of goserelin and clarify the classification of disease molecular subtypes in breast and prostate cancer.

Potential roles of RNA N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification in tumour microenvironment (TME) cell infiltration has been demonstrated in recent studies. Nonetheless, the mechanism of its regulation remains unknown and immunotherapy has been marginal in prostate cancer. We demonstrated the expression of different m6A regulators within prostate cancer related to genetic variation, alternative splicing (AS), tumour mutational burden (TMB) and TME. Unsupervised clustering and risk prediction model constructed by 24 m6A regulators could predict scores of TME and prostate cancer patients prognosis. T cells CD8 was the intersection of immune cells which are related to multiple biological processes, and the fraction of T cells CD8 strongly correlates with immune associated gene sets. m6A methylation modification and immune cells infiltration played a nonnegligible role in prostate cancer. Our study represents a step towards personalized immunotherapy for prostate cancer patients.

BackgroundVisual impairments related to non-correctable vision loss, including blindness and low vision, have been consistently shown to lower a person's health-related quality of life. This study assessed the reliability, validity, and discrimination of the Quality of Life Scale for Children with Visual Impairments (QOLS-CVI) in China.MethodsThe Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ 4.0 and World Health Organization Quality of Life-Disability Scale for physical disability were selected to define conceptual frameworks and item libraries based on relevant existing studies. According to two rounds of expert consultations and group discussions, some items were modified, and the draft scale was developed. Two item selection processes based on classical test theory and item response theory were used to conduct a preliminary survey and a formal survey in special schools in Shanxi and Hebei Provinces. Finally, the reliability and validity of the quality of life scale for visually impaired children in China were verified.ResultsThe final QOLS-CVI consisted of 38 items, 10 subdomains, and 6 domains. Reliability was verified by Cronbach's alpha coefficient, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability (Cronbach's alpha for the full scale, 0.841; split-half reliability, 0.629; and test–retest reliability, 0.888). The validity results showed that the multidimensional scale met expectations: exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis indicated good fitting models for children with visual impairments.ConclusionsThe QOLS-CVI was determined to be reliable and valid and to have strong feasibility and effectiveness. This scale can be used as an evaluation tool to study the QOL and social-participation ability of children with visual impairments.

Patient outcomes from the current clinical cancer therapy remain still far from satisfactory. However, in recent years, several biomedical discoveries and nanotechnological innovations have been made, so there is an impetus to combine these with conventional treatments to improve patient experience and disease prognosis. Ferroptosis, a term first coined in 2012, is an iron-dependent regulated cell death (RCD) based on the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the consequent oxidization of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Many nanomaterials that can induce ferroptosis have been explored for applications in cancer therapy. In this review, we summarize the recent developments in ferroptosis-based nanomaterials for cancer therapy and discuss the future of ferroptosis, nanomedicine, and cancer therapy.

Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI)-resistant renal cancer is highly susceptible to metastasis, and enhanced vascular permeability promotes the process of metastasis. To evaluate the effect of cancer-derived exosomes on vascular endothelial cells and clarify the mechanism of metastasis in TKI-resistant renal cancer, we studied the crosstalk between clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Exosomes from ccRCC cells enhanced the expression of vascular permeability-related proteins. Compared with sensitive strains, exosomes from resistant strains significantly enhanced vascular endothelial permeability, induced tumor angiogenesis and enhanced tumor lung metastasis in nude mice. The expression of miR-549a is lower in TKI-resistant cells and exosomes, which enhanced the expression of HIF1α in endothelial cells. In addition, TKI-resistant RCC cells reduced nuclear output of pre-miR-549a via the VEGFR2-ERK-XPO5 pathway, and reduced enrichment of mature miR-549a in cytoplasm, which in turn promoted HIF1α expression in RCC, leading to increased VEGF secretion and further activated VEGFR2 to form a feedback effect. miR-549a played an important role in the metastasis of renal cancer and might serve as a blood biomarker for ccRCC metastasis and even had the potential of becoming a new drug to inhibit TKI-resistance.

The challenge of eradicating cancer is that cancer cells possess diverse mechanisms to protect themselves from clinical strategies. Recently, ferroptosis has been shown to exhibit appreciable anti-tumor activity that could be harnessed for cancer therapy in the future. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death that is characterized by the oxidization of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and accumulation of lipid peroxides. Ferroptosis has been closely correlated with numerous biological processes, such as amino acid metabolism, glutathione metabolism, iron metabolism, and lipid metabolism, as well as key regulators including GPX4, FSP1, NRF2, and p53. Although ferroptosis could be involved in killing various cancer cells, multiple aspects of this phenomenon remain unresolved. In this review, we summarize the biochemistry and biology of ferroptosis in diverse cancers and discuss the potential mechanisms of ferroptosis, which might pave the way for guiding cancer therapeutics.

ObjectiveSince December 2019, an increasing number of cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have been identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Now, more cases have been reported in 200 other countries and regions. The pandemic disease not only affects physical health who suffered it, but also affects the mental health of the general population. This study aims to know about the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of living using EQ-5D in general population in China.MethodsAn online-based survey was developed and participants were recruited via social media. The questionnaires included demographic and socioeconomic data, health status, the condition epidemic situation and EQ-5D scale. The relationships of all factors and the scores of EQ-5D were analyzed. Logistic regression model were used to the five health dimensions.ResultsThe respondents obtained a mean EQ-5D index score of 0.949 and a mean VAS score of 85.52.The most frequently reported problem were pain/discomfort (19.0%) and anxiety/depression (17.6%). Logistic regression models showed that the risk of pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression among people with aging, with chronic disease, lower income, epidemic effects, worry about get COVID-19 raised significantly.ConclusionThe article provides important evidence on HRQOL during the COVID-19 pandemic. The risk of pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression in general population in China raised significantly with aging, with chronic disease, lower income, epidemic effects, worried about get COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results from each categorical data can be used for future healthcare measures among general population.

The framework of outcomes-based education(OBE) has become a central issue for global university education, which is benefited to drive the education development by a series of assessments for historical teaching data, especially student course score, and employment information. The issue of how to timely update the talent training plans for computer major in a university has received considerable critical attention. It is becoming extremely difficult to ignore the requirement of fast shortened update cycle in IT area. One of the main obstacles is that the teaching inertia and the fixed awareness of a major training plan may delay the feedback of teaching problems. There is still a contradiction between the plan rationality and the real-time needs of contemporary IT enterprises. Hence, this paper puts forward a novel data-based framework to evaluate the relevance between the major courses, employment rate, and enterprise needs through the decision tree expression, thus providing reliable data support for systematic curriculum reform. On top of that, A recommendation algorithm is proposed to automatically generate the computer course group that satisfies the staff requirements of IT enterprises. Finally, teaching and employment data of Xihua University in China is applied as an example to undertake course optimization and recommendation. The consequences have an obvious positive effect on student employment and enterprise feedback.

Abstract Background In China, the problems of population aging and empty nesting have become important issues which will affect the social stability and economic development. The aim of this study was to explore the health promoting lifestyles and influencing factors among empty nesters and compare with non-empty nesters to find out their differences, so as to provide a scientific evidence for people to formulate health management strategies for elderly. Methods A cross-sectional survey which used a stratified random cluster sampling method, was conducted among 500 elders in six districts of Taiyuan, China, there were 288 empty nesters and 212 non-empty nesters. The general information and health- promoting lifestyles were investigated by using the self-made General Information Questionnaire and Health Promoting Lifestyle Scale(HPLP). Two-sample t-test and Chi-square test were used to compare the sociodemographic factors, HPLP scores of empty nesters to non-empty nesters; Multiple stepwise linear regression was performed to estimate influencing factors related to the HPLP of empty nesters and non-empty nesters. Abstract The morphology of Pt−Au bimetal nanostructures plays an important role in enhancing the catalytic capability, catalytic stability and utilization efficiency of the platinum. We designed and successfully prepared Au@Pt nanoparticles (NPs) through an economical, surfactant-free and efficient method of seed-mediated growth. The Au@Pt NPs displayed electrochemical performances superior to those of commercial Pt/C catalysts because their agglomeration was prevented and exhibited better long-term stability with respect to methanol oxidation in acidic media by efficiently removing intermediates. Among the obtained Au@Pt NPs, Au90@Pt10 NPs exhibited the most significantly enhanced catalytic performance for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR). Their mass and electrochemically active surface area (ECSA)-normalized current densities are approximately 3.9 and 4.6 times higher than those of commercial Pt/C catalysts, respectively. The oxidation current densities of the Au90@Pt10 NPs are approximately 1.8 times higher than those of commercial Pt/C catalysts after 4000 s of continuous measurement because the small Pt NPs grown on the surface of the Au90@Pt10 NPs were effectively stabilized by the Au metal support. This approach may be a facile method for the synthesis of self-supported bimetallic nanostructures, which is of great significance for the development of high performance electrocatalysts and sensors.
