Abstract Background Congenital agenesis of internal carotid artery (ICA) is a rare cerebrovascular variation entity. Most cases of congenital ICA agenesis are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. Congenital ICA agenesis presenting as ischemic stroke is even rare. Case presentation An 80-year-old male patient was admitted to our hospital due to sudden dysarthria and left limb weakness for 3.5 h. Based on emergency physical examination and head computed tomography (CT) scan results, acute ischemic stroke (AIS) of right cerebral hemisphere was suspected. Following intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator, right congenital agenesis of ICA was confirmed by CT and digital subtraction angiography. Additionally, there was a severe right vertebral artery ostial (VAO) stenosis. After ruling out common causes of AIS such as haematological diseases, arterial dissection, organic heart disease, immunological abnormality and underlying possible malignancies, we hypothesize that the severe stenosis of the right VAO may have contributed to the development of AIS in this case. Conclusions We present a case of right congenital ICA agenesis in which severe stenosis of the right VAO may have played a role in the development of AIS. This case underscores a rare scenario where a lesion in the posterior circulation leads to an infarction in the anterior circulation in the setting of congenital ICA agenesis.

Abstract Regular physical activity is widely recognized for reducing the risk of various disorders, with skeletal muscles playing a key role by releasing biomolecules that benefit multiple organs and tissues. However, many individuals, particularly the elderly and those with clinical conditions, are unable to engage in physical exercise, necessitating alternative strategies to stimulate muscle cells to secrete beneficial biomolecules. Histone acetylation and deacetylation significantly influence exercise-induced gene expression, suggesting that targeting histone deacetylases (HDACs) could mimic some exercise responses. In this study, we explored the effects of the HDAC inhibitor Trichostatin A (TSA) on human skeletal muscle myoblasts (HSMMs). Our findings showed that TSA-induced hyperacetylation enhanced myotube fusion and increased the secretion of extracellular vesicles (EVs) enriched with miR-873-3p. These TSA-EVs promoted osteogenic differentiation in human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) by targeting H2 calponin (CNN2). In vivo, systemic administration of TSA-EVs to osteoporosis mice resulted in significant improvements in bone mass. Moreover, TSA-EVs mimicked the osteogenic benefits of exercise-induced EVs, suggesting that HDAC inhibition can replicate exercise-induced bone health benefits. These results demonstrate the potential of TSA-induced muscle-derived EVs as a therapeutic strategy to enhance bone formation and prevent osteoporosis, particularly for individuals unable to exercise. Given the FDA-approved status of various HDAC inhibitors, this approach holds significant promise for rapid clinical translation in osteoporosis treatment.

Abstract Medical image registration is vital for disease diagnosis and treatment with its ability to merge diverse information of images, which may be captured under different times, angles, or modalities. Although several surveys have reviewed the development of medical image registration, they have not systematically summarized the existing medical image registration methods. To this end, a comprehensive review of these methods is provided from traditional and deep-learning-based perspectives, aiming to help audiences quickly understand the development of medical image registration. In particular, we review recent advances in retinal image registration, which has not attracted much attention. In addition, current challenges in retinal image registration are discussed and insights and prospects for future research provided.

Abstract The association between built environment and physical activity has been recognized. However, how and to what extent microscale streetscapes are related to running activity remains underexplored, partly due to the lack of running data in large urban areas. Moreover, few studies have examined the interactive effects of macroscale built environment and microscale streetscapes. This study examines the main and interactive effects of the two-level environments on running intensity, using 9.73 million fitness tracker data from Keep in Shanghai, China. Results of spatial error model showed that: 1) the explanatory power of microscale streetscapes was higher than that of macroscale built environment with R2 of 0.245 and 0.240, respectively, which is different from the prior finding that R2 is greater for macroscale built environment than for microscale streetscape; 2) sky and green view indexes were positively associated with running intensity, whereas visual crowdedness had a negative effect; 3) there were negative interactions of land use Herfindahl–Hirschman index with sky and green view indexes, while a positive interaction was observed for visual crowdedness. To conclude, greener, more open and less visually crowded streetscapes, can promote running behavior and enhance the benefits of land use mix as well. The findings highlight the importance of streetscapes in promoting running behavior, instead of a supplement to macroscale built environment.

Abstract Objective To present our experience in the surgical management of completely extradural dumbbell spinal schwannomas with a new surgical strategy. Method This study is a case series of patients treated at the Neurosurgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, between January 2018 and June 2021. Results 24 patients met the inclusion criteria, with cervical and lumbar spines being the most frequent locations. All patients underwent surgical treatment. Total gross resection was accomplished in all patients. Two cases had numbness and no case exhibited motor deficit. There was no postoperative CSF leakage or wound infection. Conclusion Based on a limited number of observations, we conclude that our technique was feasible and effective for the treatment of extradural dumbbell spinal schwannomas. Abstract Background The detection and management of intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are vital to prevent life-threatening complications like subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Artificial Intelligence (AI) can analyze medical images, like CTA or MRA, spotting nuances possibly overlooked by humans. Early detection facilitates timely interventions and improved outcomes. Moreover, AI algorithms offer quantitative data on aneurysm attributes, aiding in long-term monitoring and assessing rupture risks. Methods We screened four databases (PubMed, Web of Science, IEEE and Scopus) for studies using artificial intelligence algorithms to identify IA. Based on algorithmic methodologies, we categorized them into classification, segmentation, detection and combined, and then their merits and shortcomings are compared. Subsequently, we elucidate potential challenges that contemporary algorithms might encounter within real-world clinical diagnostic contexts. Then we outline prospective research trajectories and underscore key concerns in this evolving field. Results Forty-seven studies of IA recognition based on AI were included based on search and screening criteria. The retrospective results represent that current studies can identify IA in different modal images and predict their risk of rupture and blockage. In clinical diagnosis, AI can effectively improve the diagnostic accuracy of IA and reduce missed detection and false positives. Conclusions The AI algorithm can detect unobtrusive IA more accurately in communicating arteries and cavernous sinus arteries to avoid further expansion. In addition, analyzing aneurysm rupture and blockage before and after surgery can help doctors plan treatment and reduce the uncertainties in the treatment process.

Abstract Tapping urban and soundscape heritage in urban forests contributes to the conservation and utility of cultural heritage. However, urban heritage and soundscapes might be damaged by urban renewal and geological changes. Poems describing urban and soundscape heritage have been poorly researched due to the obscurity, fragmentation, and inaccessibility of historical materials. This study explores the tendencies of ancient poets toward poetized locales and soundscapes and investigates the present conservation of cultural heritage. This study uses historical sensing to assess the spatial information and auditory sensations about cultural heritage in poems through manual collation. Most of the sites in the poems are currently distributed in urban green spaces with good greenery conditions. These sites are mostly located in the downtown area (38.1%) and outskirts (38.1%) of Fuzhou and are well-preserved urban heritage sites. Generally, the poets preferred to describe birds chirping and visited sites with high forest coverage, such as mountains. The methodology of this study can provide a reference for other research on urban and soundscape heritage, helping with the excavation of natural culture and historical resource conservation in cities.

Abstract Isoguanosine (isoG) is a natural structural isomer of guanosine (G) with significant potential for applications in ionophores, genetics, gel formation, and cancer therapy. However, the cost of commercially available isoG on a gram scale is relatively high. To date, a detailed method for the large‐scale preparation of high‐purity isoG has not been reported. This study presented a simple and convenient approach for the large‐scale synthesis of isoG through the diazotization of 2,6‐diaminopurine riboside with sodium nitrite and acetic acid at room temperature. Further, this method could synthesize isoG derivatives (2’‐fluoro‐isoguanosine (1) and 2’‐deoxy‐isoguanosine (2)) from 2,6‐diaminopurine nucleoside derivatives using diazotization. The structural information of natural and modified nucleosides is crucial for the modification and substitution of DNA/RNA. This study obtained the single‐crystal structure of isoG for the first time and analyzed it in detail using microcrystal electron diffraction. The three‐dimensional supramolecular structure of isoG adopted similarly base‐pair motifs from π‐π stacking interaction of diverse layers, intramolecular hydrogen bonding, and distinct hydrogen bonding interactions from sugar residues. This study has contributed to further isoG modification and its applications in medicinal chemistry and materials.

Heterogeneous drought stress (HED) is prevalent in drought-resistant practices such as deficit irrigation, root zone irrigation and strip intercropping. The mechanisms and improvement of crop drought resistance under HED are not fully understood. This study used double-root grafted Nandou 12 (ND12) soybean seedlings to simulate HED treatment under controlled conditions. Seedlings were transplanted into root cups with waterproof partitions to establish different soil moisture treatments: sufficient irrigation (SI) with 80 % soil moisture on both sides, HED with 80 % on one side and 40 % on the other, and homogeneous drought stress (HOD) with 60 % on both sides. The results indicated that soybean plants treated with HED exhibited healthier growth compared to those treated with HOD. Photosynthesis rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (cond.), transpiration rate (Tr), and relative water content (RWC) decreased by 10.24 %, 43.90 %, 152.66 %, and 8.69 % in HED-treated plants, respectively, but dry biomass increased by 3.38 %. Conversely, HOD conditions led to a significant decline in these parameters. Metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses revealed significant changes in the biosynthesis and signaling pathways of key phytohormones and metabolites, including abscisic acid (ABA), gibberellin (GA), jasmonic acid (JA), isoflavones, starch, and sugars. In HED-treated plants, GmNCED downregulation resulted in 54.22 % less ABA than HOD. GA levels increased under HED with upregulation of GmGA3OX1 and GmGA3OX2. JA content in HED-treated roots was 90.90 % higher than in HOD-treated roots. Isoflavones concentration including genistein (73.01 %), genistin (63.63 %), malonylgenistin (20.58 %), malonylgenistin (65 %), diadzin (38.15 %), and malonyldiadzin (47.61 %) levels, were significantly higher in HED-treated plants. Antioxidant enzyme activities indicated a 20 % increase in peroxidase (POD) activity under HED, while malondialdehyde (MDA) content was 27 % higher in HOD-treated plants, indicating greater oxidative stress. Chlorophyll content remained stable, and starch concentration increased by 33.33 % in HED-treated plants compared to HOD-treated plants. HED enhances phytohormonal responses and metabolic adjustments in soybean plants, boosting photosynthetic efficiency, antioxidant capabilities, growth, and drought resilience. This regulatory mechanism balances growth promotion and drought resistance, highlighting HED potential in improving crop resilience.

Intercropping can improve light interception and crop yield on limited farmlands. The light interception rate in intercropping is determined by row configuration. Quantifying the spatio-temporal light interception of intercrops is very important for improving crop yields by optimizing the row configuration. A two-year field experiment was conducted at two sites to quantify the responses of the light interception rate of intercrops to five treatments: two rows of maize alternated with three rows of soybean (2M3S), two rows of maize alternated four rows of soybean (2M4S), two rows of maize alternated five rows of soybean (2M5S), sole soybean (SS), and sole maize (SM). We developed a multiple regression model based on the sine of the solar elevation angle (sin(h)) and crop leaf area density (LAD) to quantify the spatio-temporal light interception of intercrops. The predicted light interception rate was positively correlated with the measured values of photosynthetically active radiation (R2 > 0.814) and dry matter (R2 > 0.830). Increasing soybean rows led to an increase in light interception of both soybean and the lower layer of maize. However, this also resulted in a decrease in light interception in the upper layer of maize. At the two sites, compared to 2M3S, the annual average cumulative light interception of soybean in 2M5S increased by 44.73% and 47.18%, that of the lower layer of maize in 2M5S increased by 9.25% and 8.04%, and that of whole canopy of maize decreased by 13.77% and 17.74% respectively. The changes in dry matter and yield of intercrops were consistent with the change in light interception, which further verified the high accuracy of the light interception model. The annual average maize yield of 2M5S was 6.03% and 6.16% lower but the soybean yield was 23.69% and 28.52% higher than that of 2M3S. On the basis of system yield, the best performance was recorded in 2M4S at the two sites. In summary, the newly created light interception model performs well in the quantification of the temporal and spatial changes in crop light interception in strip intercropping and has potential applications in other configurations. Optimizing row configurations across climatic regions to enhance light interception and yield at the system level will become a future target.

Testicular sperm maturation is critical for establishing male fertility. Spermatozoa undergo remodeling of sperm proteins and changes in lipid and ribonucleic acid composition during transport in the epididymal ducts, which play an important role in sperm maturation. The anatomy, epithelial cell types, physiological functions, and epigenetic inheritance of the epididymis are explored, and recent findings in epididymal research are analyzed. Suggesting possible directions for future research on the epididymis. Using the keywords “epididymis”, “sperm”, and “sperm maturation”, a search of the epididymis was performed through databases and official websites of journals related to reproduction. The epididymis was searched in databases and on the official websites of journals related to reproduction. This review introduces the characteristics of the epididymis, as well as the biological functions of cell types such as principal cells, clear cells, and basal cells, providing a detailed description of the overall physiological functions of the epididymis. It highlights current research hotspots in the field of epididymis, including single-cell analysis, epigenetics, and extracellular vesicles, aiming to offer a comprehensive understanding for beginners. The review emphasizes the importance of the epididymis, its impact on sperm maturation and subsequent embryo development, and how it advances research on epididymal diseases while providing new directions for the study and treatment strategies of infertility.

Abstract Objective To study the effect of mindfulness meditation combined with progressive muscle relaxation training on the clinical efficacy and quality of life in patients with sarcopenia receiving maintenance haemodialysis (MHD). Methods Eligible patients with sarcopenia in our hospital were randomly assigned to a control group (n = 24) and an intervention group (n = 25). The control group received conventional dialysis treatment, while the intervention group underwent mindfulness meditation combined with progressive muscle relaxation training during the interdialysis period in addition to conventional dialysis treatment. The effect of the intervention was evaluated after 12 weeks. Results There were no significant differences in the baseline values of various parameters between the two groups. Exercise capacity (sit-to-stand test,handgrip,time to 10 sit-ups) significantly improved in the intervention group after 12 weeks (32.68 ± 8.32 vs 26.50 ± 6.83; 37.42 ± 10.12 vs 28.12 ± 8.51; 19.8 ± 5.40 vs 25.29 ± 7.18) (p < 0.05). In terms of the kidney disease quality of life (KDQOLTM) score, all other dimensions except sexual function, social functioning, burden of kidney disease and work status dimensions showed significant improvement compared to the baseline (p < 0.05). In the control group, only the dialysis staff encouragement (DSE) and patient satisfaction (PS) dimensions showed slight improvements compared to the baseline (p > 0.05). When compared with the control group, the intervention group showed significant improvements in 10 dimensions of exercise capacity and KDQOLTM scores for physical function, role-physical, general health, energy, symptom/problem list, sleep, DSE, pain, cognitive function, emotional well-being and patient PS after 12 weeks (61.30 ± 5.38 vs 42.98 ± 5.73; 57.50 ± 3.55 vs 50.70 ± 3.62) (p < 0.05). Some inflammatory markers, such as the levels of interleukin-6 and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (30.29 ± 2.96 vs 17.65 ± 3.22; 8.93 ± 0.99 vs 3.02 ± 0.34), showed a decrease during the intervention, while albumin and prealbumin levels were significantly increased compared with the baseline (30.62 ± 1.65 vs 35.60 ± 1.68; 0.32 ± 0.05 vs 0.44 ± 0.07) (p < 0.05). Conclusion Combined intervention training can improve the motor ability and quality of life of patients with sarcopenia within a short period of time.

Abstract Nanofluidic membranes have demonstrated great potential in harvesting osmotic energy. However, the output power densities are usually hampered by insufficient membrane permselectivity. Herein, we design a polyoxometalates (POMs)-based nanofluidic plasmonic electron sponge membrane (PESM) for highly efficient osmotic energy conversion. Under light irradiation, hot electrons are generated on Au NPs surface and then transferred and stored in POMs electron sponges, while hot holes are consumed by water. The stored hot electrons in POMs increase the charge density and hydrophilicity of PESM, resulting in significantly improved permselectivity for high-performance osmotic energy conversion. In addition, the unique ionic current rectification (ICR) property of the prepared nanofluidic PESM inhibits ion concentration polarization effectively, which could further improve its permselectivity. Under light with 500-fold NaCl gradient, the maximum output power density of the prepared PESM reaches 70.4 W m−2, which is further enhanced even to 102.1 W m−2 by changing the ligand to P5W30. This work highlights the crucial roles of plasmonic electron sponge for tailoring the surface charge, modulating ion transport dynamics, and improving the performance of nanofluidic osmotic energy conversion.

Abstract Project Optimus is a US Food and Drug Administration Oncology Center of Excellence initiative aimed at reforming the dose selection and optimization paradigm in oncology drug development. This project seeks to bring together pharmaceutical companies, international regulatory agencies, academic institutions, patient advocates, and other stakeholders. Although there is much promise in this initiative, there are several challenges that need to be addressed, including multidimensionality of the dose optimization problem in oncology, the heterogeneity of cancer and patients, importance of evaluating long‐term tolerability beyond dose‐limiting toxicities, and the lack of reliable biomarkers for long‐term efficacy. Through the lens of Totality of Evidence and with the mindset of model‐informed drug development, we offer insights into dose optimization by building a quantitative knowledge base integrating diverse sources of data and leveraging quantitative modeling tools to build evidence for drug dosage considering exposure, disease biology, efficacy, toxicity, and patient factors. We believe that rational dose optimization can be achieved in oncology drug development, improving patient outcomes by maximizing therapeutic benefit while minimizing toxicity.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and imaging outcomes of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods A total of 155 patients with LDH between January 2020 and June 2022 were retrospective analyzed, of which 75 underwent PELD with PRP and 80 underwent PELD only. Clinical functional scores and imaging data were compared. Clinical functional scores included visual analog scale of leg pain (VAS-LP) and back pain (VAS-BP), Japanese Orthopedic Association score (JOA), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and modified MacNab criteria. Imaging data included disc height index (DHI), spinal cross-sectional area (SCSA), disc protrusion size (DPZ), and ratio value of disc grey scales (RVG). Results Both groups showed clinical improvement, and VAS-LP, VAS-BP, JOA and ODI were significantly improved in the PRP group compared with the control group at 3, 6 and 12 months postoperatively (P 0.05). No serious complications occurred during the follow-up period. Conclusion PELD combined with PRP is a safe and effective method for treating patients with LDH. PRP injection was beneficial for delaying disc degeneration and promoting disc remodeling.

Abstract Eye health has become a global health concern and attracted broad attention. Over the years, researchers have proposed many state‐of‐the‐art convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing ocular diseases efficiently and precisely. However, most existing methods were dedicated to constructing sophisticated CNNs, inevitably ignoring the trade‐off between performance and model complexity. To alleviate this paradox, this paper proposes a lightweight yet efficient network architecture, mixed‐decomposed convolutional network (MDNet), to recognise ocular diseases. In MDNet, we introduce a novel mixed‐decomposed depthwise convolution method, which takes advantage of depthwise convolution and depthwise dilated convolution operations to capture low‐resolution and high‐resolution patterns by using fewer computations and fewer parameters. We conduct extensive experiments on the clinical anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS‐OCT), LAG, University of California San Diego, and CIFAR‐100 datasets. The results show our MDNet achieves a better trade‐off between the performance and model complexity than efficient CNNs including MobileNets and MixNets. Specifically, our MDNet outperforms MobileNets by 2.5% of accuracy by using 22% fewer parameters and 30% fewer computations on the AS‐OCT dataset.

Abstract Objective Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is the standard procedure for the treatment of cervical spinal stenosis (CSS), but complications such as adjacent segment degeneration can seriously affect the long-term efficacy. Currently, posterior endoscopic surgery has been increasingly used in the clinical treatment of CSS. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of single-segment CSS patients who underwent full endoscopic laminotomy decompression or ACDF. Methods 138 CSS patients who met the inclusion criteria from June 2018 to August 2020 were retrospectively analyzed and divided into endoscopic and ACDF groups. The propensity score matching (PSM) method was used to adjust the imbalanced confounding variables between the groups. Then, perioperative data were recorded and clinical outcomes were compared, including functional scores and imaging data. Functional scores included Visual Analog Scale of Arms (A-VAS) and Neck pain (N-VAS), Japanese Orthopedic Association score (JOA), Neck Disability Index (NDI), and imaging data included Disc Height Index (DHI), Cervical range of motion (ROM), and Ratio of grey scale (RVG). Results After PSM, 84 patients were included in the study and followed for 24–30 months. The endoscopic group was significantly superior to the ACDF group in terms of operative time, intraoperative blood loss, incision length, and hospital stay (P 0.05). Conclusion Full endoscopic laminotomy decompression is demonstrated to be an efficacious alternative technique to traditional ACDF for the treatment of single-segment CSS, with the advantages of less trauma, faster recovery, and less impact on cervical spine kinematics and adjacent segmental degeneration.

Abstract The seagull optimization algorithm (SOA) is a meta-heuristic algorithm proposed in 2019. It has the advantages of structural simplicity, few parameters and easy implementation. However, it also has some defects including the three main drawbacks of slow convergence speed, simple search method and poor ability of balancing global exploration and local exploitation. Besides, most of the improved SOA algorithms in the literature have not considered the drawbacks of the SOA comprehensively enough. This paper proposes a hybrid strategies based algorithm (ISOA) to overcome the three main drawbacks of the SOA. Firstly, a hyperbolic tangent function is used to adjust the spiral radius. The spiral radius can change dynamically with the iteration of the algorithm, so that the algorithm can converge quickly. Secondly, an adaptive weight factor improves the position updating method by adjusting the proportion of the best individual to balance the global and local search abilities. Finally, to overcome the single search mode, an improved chaotic local search strategy is introduced for secondary search. A comprehensive comparison between the ISOA and other related algorithms is presented, considering twelve test functions and four engineering design problems. The comparison results indicate that the ISOA has an outstanding performance and a significant advantage in solving engineering problems, especially with an average improvement of 14.67% in solving welded beam design problem.

Objective:. Real-world diagnostic and treatment data for pancreatic cancer in China are lacking. As such, the present study investigated the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer (including locally advanced and metastatic disease) in the Hospital-based Advanced Pancreatic Cancer Cohort in China of the China Pancreas Data Center database. Methods:. A total of 5349 Chinese patients with advanced pancreatic cancer were identified from a database. The entire course of real-world pancreatic cancer management was analyzed. Results:. The proportion of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer was higher among males than females (62.4% vs 37.6%, respectively). Patients typically had a history of hypertension (30.8%), diabetes (21.6%), and cholangitis (20.2%). Abdominal pain (51.6%), abdominal distension (27.1%), jaundice (20.1%), and weight loss (16.3%) were the main symptoms observed in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer in this cohort. Serum carbohydrate antigen (CA)19-9 is one of the most common tumor markers. In the present study, 2562 patients underwent first-line therapy. The median progression-free survival (PFS) for patients undergoing first-line therapy was 4.1 months. The major options for first-line therapy included gemcitabine (GEM) plus S-1 (GS/X) (23.4%), nab-paclitaxel plus GEM (AG) (18.1%), oxaliplatin, irinotecan, and leucovorin-modulated fluorouracil (FOLFIRINOX; 11.9%), nab-paclitaxel plus S-1 (AS) (8.9%), and GEM combined with oxaliplatin/cisplatin (GEMOX/GP) (7.6%). The AS and GS/X regimens were associated with the highest PFS rates. Conclusion:. This is the first study to report multicenter, real-world data regarding advanced pancreatic cancer in China. Results revealed that real-world treatment options differed from guideline recommendations, and PFS was shorter than that in previously reported data. Improving intelligent follow-up systems and standardizing diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer is recommended.

Abstract Background The relationship between the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and osteoarthritis (OA) remains unclear. The objective of this study was to examine potential associations between an elevated TyG index and an increased risk of OA prevalence. Methods 3,921 participants with OA from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2015–2020) were included in this study. Participants were categorized into quartiles based on TyG index, which was determined using the formula: Ln [triglyceride (mg/dL) fasting blood glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Weighted multivariable regression, subgroup analyses, and threshold effect analyses were performed to calculate the independent association between TyG index and OA. Results A total of 25,514 people were enrolled, with a mean TyG index of 8.48 ± 0.65. The results of multivariable logistic regression analysis after full adjustment showed a significant association between higher TyG index values and an increased risk of OA. Specifically, each incremental unit increase in the TyG index was associated with a 634% higher risk of OA [OR = 7.34; 95% CI: 2.25, 23.93; p = 0.0010]. Based on interaction tests, age, gender, BMI, and smoking status did not significantly affect the relationship between the TyG index and OA, while diabetes showed a stronger positive correlation between the TyG index and OA. Conclusion An increased risk of OA was associated with a higher TyG index. TyG could be a valuable predictor of OA and offer novel perspectives on the assessment and treatment of OA.

Objective: To describe the feasibility, safety and efficacy of mobilization of the vertebral artery for C2 pedicle screws in cases with the high-riding vertebral artery (HRVA). Methods: During the period January 2020 to September 2022, fifteen patients underwent posterior occipitocervical fixation in our department. All patients had unilateral HRVA on at least one side that prohibited the insertion of C2 pedicle screws. There were 2 males and 13 females aged 47 ± 11.9 years (range: 17–64 years). After the correction of the vertical dislocation during the operation, the C2 pedicle screw insertion and occipitocervical fixation and fusion were performed using the vertebral artery mobilization technique. A routine three-dimensional reconstructed CT examination was executed to confirm the trajectory of C2 pedicle screws post-operation, and a CT angiography examination was performed when necessary. Neurological function was assessed using the Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scale. The preoperative and postoperative JOA score and the main radiological measurements, including anterior atlantodental interval (ADI), the distance of odontoid tip above Chamberlain line, and clivus-canal angle (CCA), were collected and compared by paired t-test. Results: All 15 patients had atlas assimilation, among which 12 patients had C2–C3 fusion (Klippel-Feil syndrome). Mobilization of the HRVA was successfully completed, and C2 pedicle screws were then fulfilled after the vertebral artery was protected. There was no injury to the vertebral artery during the operation. Meanwhile, no severe surgical complications such as cerebral infarction or aggravated neurological dysfunction occurred during the perioperative period. Satisfactory C2 pedicle screw placement and reduction were reached in all 15 patients. All the patients achieved bone fusion 6 months after surgery. No looseness and shift of internal fixation or reduction loss was observed during the follow-up period. Compared to the preoperative, the postoperative JOA score and the main radiological measurements were remarkably improved and statistically significant. Conclusions: C2 pedicle screw insertion assisted by mobilization of the vertebral artery is safe and considerably effective, providing a choice for internal fixation in cases with high-riding vertebral arteries.

Abstract BackgroundCycling is known to be beneficial for human health. Studies have suggested significant associations of physical activity with macroscale built environments and streetscapes. However, whether good streetscapes can amplify the benefits of a favorable built environment on physical activity remains unknown. ObjectiveThis study examines whether streetscape perceptions can modify the associations between accessibility, land use mix, and bike-sharing use. MethodsThis cross-sectional study used data from 18,019,266 bike-sharing orders during weekends in Shanghai, China. A 500 × 500 m grid was selected as the analysis unit to allocate data. Bike-sharing use was defined as the number of bike-sharing origins. Street view images and a human-machine adversarial scoring framework were combined to evaluate lively, safety, and wealthy perceptions. Negative binomial regression was developed to examine the independent effects of the three perceptual factors in both the univariate model and fully adjusted model, controlling for population density, average building height, distance to nearest transit, number of bus stations, number of points of interest, distance to the nearest park, and distance to the central business district. The moderation effect was then investigated through the interaction term between streetscape perception and accessibility and land use mix, based on the fully adjusted model. We also tested whether the findings of streetscape moderation effects are robust when examinations are performed at different geographic scales, using a small-sample statistics approach and different operationalizations of land use mix and accessibility. ResultsHigh levels of lively, safety, and wealthy perceptions were correlated with more bike-sharing activities. There were negative effects for the interactions between the land use Herfindahl-Hirschman index with the lively perception (β=–0.63; PPPPPP ConclusionsA safer and livelier streetscape can enhance the benefits of land use mix in promoting bike-sharing use, with a safer streetscape also intensifying the effect of accessibility. Interventions focused on streetscape perceptions can encourage cycling behavior and enhance the benefits of accessibility and land use mix. This study also contributes to the literature on potential moderators of built environment healthy behavior associations from the perspective of microscale environmental perceptions.

Currently, chemotherapy remains occupying a pivotal place in the treatment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Nonetheless, the emergence of drug resistance in recent years has limited the clinical efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents, especially gemcitabine (GEM). Through bioinformatics analysis, AT-rich Interactive Domain-containing Protein 3A (ARID3A), one of transcription factors, is discovered to possibly participate in this progress. This study thoroughly investigates the potential role of ARID3A in the malignant progression and GEM chemoresistance of PDAC and explores the underlying mechanisms. The results indicate that ARID3A knockdown suppresses tumor development and enhances the sensitivity of PDAC cells to GEM in vitro and vivo. Mechanically, CUT&Tag profiling sequencing, RNA‐sequencing and functional studies demonstrates that decreased ARID3A expression alleviates the transcriptional inhibition of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), consequently leading to glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) depletion and increased lipid peroxidation levels. Activated ferroptosis induced by the inhibition of GPX4 subsequently restricts tumor progression and reduces GEM resistance in PDAC. This research identifies the ferroptosis regulatory pathway of ARID3A-PTEN-GPX4 axis and reveals its critical role in driving the progression and chemoresistance of pancreatic cancer. Notably, both inhibition of ARID3A and enhancement of ferroptosis can increase chemosensitivity to GEM, which offers a promising opportunity for developing therapeutic strategies to combat acquired chemotherapy resistance in pancreatic cancer.

Abstract Abrupt variations of auroral electrojets can induce geomagnetically induced currents, and the ability to model and forecast them is a pressing goal of space weather research. We report an auroral electrojet spike event that is extreme in magnitude, explosive in nature, and global in spatial extent that occurred on 24 April 2023. The event serves as a fundamental test of our understanding of the response of the geospace system to solar wind dynamics. Our results illustrate new and important characteristics that are drastically different from existing knowledge. Most important findings include (a) the event was only of ∼5‐min duration and was limited to a narrow (2°–3°) band of diffuse aurora; (b) the longitudinal span covered the entire nightside sector, possibly extending to the dayside; (c) the trigger seems to be a transient solar wind dynamic pressure pulse. In comparison, substorms usually last 1–2 hr and span almost the entire latitudinal width of the auroral oval. Magnetic perturbation events (MPEs) span hundreds km in radius. Both substorms and MPEs are mainly driven by disturbances in the magnetotail. A possible explanation is that the pressure pulse compresses the magnetosphere and enhances diffuse precipitation of electrons and protons from the inner plasma sheet, which elevates the ionospheric conductivity and intensifies the auroral electrojet. Therefore, the event exhibits a potentially new type of geomagnetic disturbance and highlights a solar wind driver that is enormously influential in driving extreme space weather events.

Niemeier type II gallbladder perforation (GBP) is caused by inflammation and necrosis of the gallbladder wall followed by bile spilling into the abdominal cavity after perforation. The gallbladder then becomes adhered to the surrounding inflammatory tissue to form a purulent envelope, which communicates with the gallbladder. At present, the clinical characteristics and treatment of type II GBP are not well understood and management of GBP remains controversial. Type II GBP with gastric outlet obstruction is rare and prone to misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. Recent systematic reviews report that percutaneous drainage does not influence outcomes. In this current case, due to the high risk of bleeding and accidental injury, as well as a lack of access to safely visualize the Calot’s triangle, the patient could not undergo laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which would have been the ideal option. This current case report presents the use of percutaneous laparoscopic drainage combined with percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage in a patient with type II GBP associated with gastric outlet obstruction. A review of the relevant literature has been provided in addition to a summary of the clinical manifestations and treatments for type II GBP.

Introduction: For severe degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS), the conventional percutaneous endoscopic translaminar decompression (PEID) has some limitations. The modified PEID, Cross-Overtop decompression, ensures sufficient decompression without excessive damage to the facet joints and posterior complex integrity.Objectives: To evaluate the biomechanical properties of Cross-Overtop and provide practical case validation for final decision-making in severe DLSS treatment.Methods: A finite element (FE) model of L4-L5 (M0) was established, and the validity was verified against prior studies. Endo-ULBD (M1), Endo-LOVE (M2), and Cross-Overtop (M3) models were derived from M0 using the experimental protocol. L4-L5 segments in each model were evaluated for the range of motion (ROM) and disc Von Mises stress extremum. The real clinical Cross-Overtop model was constructed based on clinical CT images, disregarding paraspinal muscle influence. Subsequent validation using actual FE analysis results enhances the credibility of the preceding virtual FE analysis.Results: Compared with M0, ROM in surgical models were less than 10°, and the growth rate of ROM ranged from 0.10% to 11.56%, while those of disc stress ranged from 0% to 15.75%. Compared with preoperative, the growth rate of ROM and disc stress were 2.66%–11.38% and 1.38%–9.51%, respectively. The ROM values in both virtual and actual models were less than 10°, verifying the affected segment stability after Cross-Overtop decompression.Conclusion: Cross-Overtop, designed for fully expanding the central canal and contralateral recess, maximizing the integrity of the facet joints and posterior complex, does no significant effect on the affected segmental biomechanics and can be recommended as an effective endoscopic treatment for severe DLSS.

Abstract Objective Acute mesenteric vein thrombosis (AMVT) is an acute abdominal disease with onset, rapid progression, and extensive intestinal necrosis that requires immediate surgical resection. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors for nosocomial intestinal resection in patients with AMVT. Methods We retrospectively analysed 64 patients with AMVT diagnosed by CTA at the Affiliated Hospital of Kunming University of Science and Technology from January 2013 to December 2021. We compared patients who underwent intestinal resection (42 patients) with those who did not undergo intestinal resection (22 patients). The area under the ROC curve was evaluated, and a forest map was drawn. Results Among the 64 patients, 6 (9.38%) had a fever, 60 (93.75%) had abdominal pain, 9 (14.06%) had a history of diabetes, 8 (12.5%) had a history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and 25 (39.06%) had ascites suggested by B ultrasound or CT after admission. The mean age of all patients was 49.86 ± 16.25 years. The mean age of the patients in the enterectomy group was 47.71 ± 16.20 years. The mean age of the patients in the conservative treatment group (without enterectomy) was 53.95 ± 15.90 years. In the univariate analysis, there were statistically significant differences in leukocyte count (P = 0.003), neutrophil count (P = 0.001), AST (P = 0.048), total bilirubin (P = 0.047), fibrinogen (P = 0.022) and DD2 (P = 0.024) between the two groups. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that admission white blood cell count (OR = 1.153, 95% CI: 1.039–1.280, P = 0.007) was an independent risk factor for intestinal resection in patients with AMVT. The ROC curve showed that the white blood cell count (AUC = 0.759 95% CI: 0.620–0.897; P = 0.001; optimal threshold: 7.815; sensitivity: 0.881; specificity: 0.636) had good predictive value for emergency enterectomy for AMVT. Conclusions Among patients with AMVT, patients with a higher white blood cell count at admission were more likely to have intestinal necrosis and require emergency enterectomy. This study is helpful for clinicians to accurately determine whether emergency intestinal resection is needed in patients with AMVT after admission, prevent further intestinal necrosis, and improve the prognosis of patients.

With the continuous improvement of the world’s economic development level, traffic pressure on the road networks of major cities around the globe has been increasing. Influenced by multiple factors, traffic pressure on urban road networks is not balanced in different directions and at different times. We evaluated and analyzed the efficiency of traffic operations and pollutant emission levels at different time periods and traffic volumes using micro traffic simulation software against the background of real roads in the Nishi-Waseda area of Tokyo. We determined the standard traffic volume based on the pollutant emission level and designed three on-street parking schemes, considering different driving habits and application scenarios, and conducted a comparative analysis of different parking scenarios. In terms of pollutant emission levels, scheme A (far to near scheme) reduced carbon monoxide emissions by 2.86% and 0.97%, respectively, compared to the other two parking schemes. The NOx and VOC emissions were also lower than those in the other two scenarios. This study aims to develop a methodology for assessing traffic operations and pollution emissions based on a real road environment. By designing and comparing different on-street parking schemes, a comparative analysis revealed the efficacy of various parking management strategies in mitigating the environmental impacts. Moreover, this study provides a valuable reference for understanding dynamic changes in traffic pressure on urban road networks and their impact on the environment.

Wireless communications are increasingly used today. Despite such use, there is a significant perception of risk which makes exposure monitoring a significant concern today. The work described in this article was carried out within the framework of the European SEAWave project and the French Beyond5G project. The exposure assessment was evaluated using a personal exposimeter (MVG EMF Spy) whose compactness and ease of use make it more suitable and portable than a system combining measuring probes and spectrum analyzers. Measurements were carried out on the cellular frequency bands used by 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, as well as that of Wi-Fi, in different modes of public transportation (RER, metro, tramway, bus, and train) circulating in the Paris region. The measurements have been analyzed by frequency band, type of public transportation, and type of environment encountered. For each set of measurements (e.g., metro lines, tramways), the mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis were evaluated and analyzed. For all exposure measurements taken in the 700, 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600, and 3500 MHz frequency bands, the overall average values are 0.39, 0.43, 0.30, 0.21, 0.18, 0.24 and 0.18 V/m, respectively. These measurements have, in all cases, a significant dispersion as shown by the ratios of standard deviations to mean values. The well-known K-means clustering technique was applied to these four parameters for different subsets of data. The number of clusters k = 3 has been chosen based on the analysis of the optimal value of k for the current dataset. Our analysis indicates that the first group’s members display the highest mean values with moderate variance and the lowest values for the third and fourth moments. The second cluster is distinguished by points with large mean and variance, accompanied by moderate skewness and kurtosis. Conversely, the third group comprises points with the smallest mean and variance values, yet the largest measurements for the third and fourth moments.

The traditional six-step commutation control method in brushless DC motors (BLDCM) often results in significant torque ripple, which limits its application in high-precision fields. This paper proposes a scheme that combines finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) to suppress commutation torque ripple. The scheme utilizes an optimal duty cycle and optimal switch compensation state. By analyzing the mathematical model of BLDC motors, the causes of commutation torque ripple were identified. To maintain the slope of the non-commutation current unchanged, a discrete model was used to predict the non-commutation current at the next moment. The predicted current was then used to calculate the optimal duty cycle. To address the shortcomings of PWM regulation performance at high speeds, a switch insertion compensation strategy was proposed. The strategy selects the optimal switch insertion compensation state based on a cost function to offset the changes in non-commutation current. Furthermore, feedback compensation was incorporated to enhance robustness in the event of parameter mismatch. The effectiveness of this method was demonstrated through experimental and simulation results.

Abstract Leprosy and psoriasis rarely coexist, the specific molecular mechanisms underlying their mutual exclusion have not been extensively investigated. This study aimed to reveal the underlying mechanism responsible for the mutual exclusion between psoriasis and leprosy. We obtained leprosy and psoriasis data from ArrayExpress and GEO database. Differential expression analysis was conducted separately on the leprosy and psoriasis using DEseq2. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) with opposite expression patterns in psoriasis and leprosy were identified, which could potentially involve in their mutual exclusion. Enrichment analysis was performed on these candidate mutually exclusive genes, and a protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed to identify hub genes. The expression of these hub genes was further validated in an external dataset to obtain the critical mutually exclusive genes. Additionally, immune cell infiltration in psoriasis and leprosy was analyzed using single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA), and the correlation between critical mutually exclusive genes and immune cells was also examined. Finally, the expression pattern of critical mutually exclusive genes was evaluated in a single-cell transcriptome dataset. We identified 1098 DEGs in the leprosy dataset and 3839 DEGs in the psoriasis dataset. 48 candidate mutually exclusive genes were identified by taking the intersection. Enrichment analysis revealed that these genes were involved in cholesterol metabolism pathways. Through PPI network analysis, we identified APOE, CYP27A1, FADS1, and SOAT1 as hub genes. APOE, CYP27A1, and SOAT1 were subsequently validated as critical mutually exclusive genes on both internal and external datasets. Analysis of immune cell infiltration indicated higher abundance of 16 immune cell types in psoriasis and leprosy compared to normal controls. The abundance of 6 immune cell types in psoriasis and leprosy positively correlated with the expression levels of APOE and CYP27A1. Single-cell data analysis demonstrated that critical mutually exclusive genes were predominantly expressed in Schwann cells and fibroblasts. This study identified APOE, CYP27A1, and SOAT1 as critical mutually exclusive genes. Cholesterol metabolism pathway illustrated the possible mechanism of the inverse association of psoriasis and leprosy. The findings of this study provide a basis for identifying mechanisms and therapeutic targets for psoriasis.

Abstract Thermally evaporated C60 is a near-ubiquitous electron transport layer in state-of-the-art p–i–n perovskite-based solar cells. As perovskite photovoltaic technologies are moving toward industrialization, batch-to-batch reproducibility of device performances becomes crucial. Here, we show that commercial as-received (99.75% pure) C60 source materials may coalesce during repeated thermal evaporation processes, jeopardizing such reproducibility. We find that the coalescence is due to oxygen present in the initial source powder and leads to the formation of deep states within the perovskite bandgap, resulting in a systematic decrease in solar cell performance. However, further purification (through sublimation) of the C60 to 99.95% before evaporation is found to hinder coalescence, with the associated solar cell performances being fully reproducible after repeated processing. We verify the universality of this behavior on perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells by demonstrating their open-circuit voltages and fill factors to remain at 1950 mV and 81% respectively, over eight repeated processes using the same sublimed C60 source material. Notably, one of these cells achieved a certified power conversion efficiency of 30.9%. These findings provide insights crucial for the advancement of perovskite photovoltaic technologies towards scaled production with high process yield.

Recently, the monitoring of the radiofrequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) exposure induced by cellular networks has received a great deal of attention. In this work, a set of 70 microenvironments (MEs) located in urban and rural areas are selected in France under, on the one hand, the French Beyond5G project, and on the other hand, the 5G expOsure, causaL effects and rIsk perception through citizen engagement (GOLIAT) EU project. The purpose of this study is to assess the RF-EMF DL exposure in residential areas, downtowns, business areas, train stations, and public transport rides. For that, we employ the personal ExpoM-RF4 dosimeter placed inside a backpack to perform the measurements in different MEs. To take into consideration the effect of the presence of the human body near the dosimeter, we propose a correction approach that is mainly based on comparing the measurements given by ExpoM-RF4 to the ones provided by a reference system using the Tektronix real-time spectrum analyzer (RTSA) far from the body. Then, we use metrics, such as the quadratic mean, standard deviation, and median of the electric (E) field to carry out a comparative study between different MEs with different RF bands. It was found that the RF-EMF exposure levels for all MEs are well below the maximum allowable exposure limit prescribed by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). In addition, we perform clustering analyses using the K-Means technique to group the MEs with comparable exposure levels. The results show that the exposure level is low, but generally higher in MEs located in Paris than in the other considered areas (i.e., Massy and three villages, namely Igny, Bures-sur-Yvette and Gif-Sur-Yvette). For example, we observe that outdoor MEs can be grouped into three clusters, where the average total E fields (ATEFs) are 0.77 V/m, 0.35 V/m, and 0.08 V/m for the MEs belonging to the first, second and third clusters, respectively. Note that the first cluster here mainly contains the MEs located in Paris. This can be explained by the important number of antennas deployed in that area to serve the huge amount of users. We also observe few locations with exceptions confirming the presence of heterogeneous environments in the vicinity of some areas. For instance, three MEs in Paris among fifteen have an exposure level similar to Massy MEs in outdoor

ObjectivesUnderwater target parameter recognition can provide the basis for target classification and recognition. To this end, an underwater target parameter recognition method based on the Kriging surrogate model is proposed. MethodsFirst, the low-frequency acoustic radiation of the structure surface and the acoustic sensitivity of an underwater target model covered with an acoustic layer are analyzed under propeller and main and auxiliary engine excitation. A low-frequency acoustic radiation power surrogate model is then established using the above analysis results, and a sample space consisting of acoustic radiation response features and target parameters is constructed on the basis of the surrogate model. Finally, a target parameter recognition surrogate model is established on the basis of the sample space, and test points are selected for model validation. ResultsThe results show that the actual target parameter values of the test samples match well with the predicted target parameter values of the constructed surrogate model. The finite element method (FEM) and boundary element method (BEM) can realize the low-frequency acoustic radiation analysis of viscoelastic damping structures by considering the frequency-dependence characteristics of the damping material, and are able to solve the problem that commercial software may not process vibration result files in large quantities. The main target parameters affecting the low-frequency vibro-acoustic radiation of the underwater target model are the model length, maximum radius of the target, model thickness and acoustic layer thickness. ConclusionsThe underwater target parameter recognition method based on a surrogate model proposed herein is able to predict the main target parameter values of the underwater target model by analyzing its acoustic radiation line spectral features.

Abstract In modern industries, the aerobic oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds to achieve the value-added conversion of hydrocarbons requires high temperatures and pressures, which significantly increases energy consumption and capital investment. The development of a light-driven strategy, even under natural sunlight and ambient air, is therefore of great significance. Here we develop a series of hetero-motif molecular junction photocatalysts containing two bifunctional motifs. With these materials, the reduction of O2 and oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds can be effectively accomplished, thus realizing efficient aerobic oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds in e.g., toluene and ethylbenzene. Especially for ethylbenzene oxidation reactions, excellent catalytic capacity (861 mmol g cat−1) is observed. In addition to the direct oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds, CeBTTD-A can also be applied to other types of aerobic oxidation reactions highlighting their potential for industrial applications.

Abstract Objective Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) is a safe and effective minimally invasive surgery for treating lumbar disc herniation (LDH); however, the comparative clinical efficacy of percutaneous endoscopic transforaminal discectomy (PETD) and percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) in treating L5–S1 LDH remains unclear. This study compared the clinical advantages of PEID and PETD for treating L5–S1 LDH. Methods This was a single-centre retrospective study analysing clinical data from 120 patients with L5–S1 LDH between February 2016 and May 2020. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to adjust for imbalanced confounding variables between the two groups. Perioperative data were recorded, and clinical outcomes, including functional scores and imaging data, were compared between groups. Functional scores included visual analogue scale (VAS) for back and leg pain, Oswestry disability index (ODI), and modified MacNab criteria. Imaging data included disc height index (DHI), ratio of greyscale (RVG), and range of motion (ROM) of the responsible segment. Results After PSM, 78 patients were included in the study, and all covariates were well balanced between the two groups. In the matched patients, the PEID group showed significantly shorter surgical time (65.41 ± 5.05 vs. 84.08 ± 5.12 min) and lower frequency of fluoroscopy (2.93 ± 0.63 vs. 11.56 ± 1.54) compared with the PETD group (P 0.05). After surgery, both groups showed significant improvement in back and leg pain based on VAS and ODI scores (P 0.05). According to the modified MacNab criteria, the excellent and good rates in the PEID group and PETD group were 91.89% and 89.19%, respectively, with no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). Conclusion PEID and PETD have similar clinical efficacy in treating L5–S1 disc herniation. However, PEID is superior to PETD in reducing operation time and frequency of fluoroscopy.

Abstract Previous datasets have limitations in generalizing evapotranspiration (ET) across various land cover types due to the scarcity and spatial heterogeneity of observations, along with the incomplete understanding of underlying physical mechanisms as a deeper contributing factor. To fill in these gaps, here we developed a global Highly Generalized Land (HG-Land) ET dataset at 0.5° spatial resolution with monthly values covering the satellite era (1982–2018). Our approach leverages the power of a Deep Forest machine-learning algorithm, which ensures good generalizability and mitigates overfitting by minimizing hyper-parameterization. Model explanations are further provided to enhance model transparency and gain new insights into the ET process. Validation conducted at both the site and basin scales attests to the dataset’s satisfactory accuracy, with a pronounced emphasis on the Northern Hemisphere. Furthermore, we find that the primary driver of ET predictions varies across different climatic regions. Overall, the HG-Land ET, underpinned by the interpretability of the machine-learning model, emerges as a validated and generalized resource catering to scientific research and various applications.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of combined treatment of methyl jasmonate and calcium chloride on storage quality of Dictyophora rubrovalvata. The Dictyophora rubrovalvata was used as the experimental material in this experiment, and the effects of different dealing methods (preharvest distilled water spray treatments mark CK, preharvest 3% calcium chloride spray (S1), preharvest 0.3 mmol/L methyl jasmonate spray (S2), preharvest 0.3 mmol/L methyl jasmonate+3% calcium chloride spray (S3)) on the storage quality of Dictyophora rubrovalvata at (1±0.5) ℃ were studied. The results showed that compared with CK group, the different treatment groups could inhibit the increase of weight loss rate and respiratory intensity, reduce the Dictyophora rubrovalvata shearing force, malondialdehyde content, maintain the free amino acid content, protein content, polysaccharide content and flavone content, and maintain the SOD, CAT and POD activity of the Dictyophora rubrovalvata. At 12 d of storage, the decay rate of Dictyophora rubrovalvata in CK, S1, S2 and S3 groups was 32.56%, 28.32%, 19.85% and 14.64%, and the weight loss rate was 5.62%, 3.89%, 2.89% and 2.21%. In general, methyl jasmonate combined with calcium chloride could significantly delay the deterioration process of Dictyophora rubrovalvata and the decline of its storage quality. Therefore the combination of spraying methyl jasmonate combined with calcium chloride before picking had the best fresh-keeping effect, which could maintain the storage effect of Dictyophora rubrovalvata. This study can provide theoretical reference and technical support for the preservation of Dictyophora rubrovalvata.

Organic fertilizers are widely used to improve soil quality. However, their potential for ensuring the safe production of vegetables in soils with varying levels of heavy metals pollution remains inadequately explored. Here, we conducted a pot experiment to investigate the effects of substituting chemical fertilizers with organic fertilizer on the HMs accumulation in water spinach by simulating soils with different levels of HMs pollution. The results showed that the organic fertilizer significantly increased the soil pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and organic matter (OM). Furthermore, it led to a reduction in the soil DTPA–Cd and DTPA–Pb levels by 3.3–20.6% and 22.4–47.3%, respectively, whereas the DTPA–As levels increased by 0.07–7.7 times. The organic fertilizer effectively reduced the Cd and Pb content in water spinach below the safety limits when the added Cd content in the soil was less than 2 mg/kg and the Pb content was equal to or less than 90 mg/kg. However, its efficacy in reducing As accumulation in water spinach was limited, emphasizing the need for caution when using organic fertilizers in As-contaminated soils. Our results provide valuable insights for the scientific and precise utilization of organic fertilizers, thereby contributing to the safe production of vegetables.

In China, most blueberry varieties are characterized by tightly clustered fruits, which pose challenges for achieving precise and non-destructive automated harvesting. This complexity limits the design of robots for this task. Therefore, this paper proposes adding a jetting step during harvesting to separate fruit clusters and increase the operational space for mechanical claws. First, a combined approach of flow field analysis and pressure-sensitive experiments was employed to establish design criteria for the number, diameter, and inclination angle parameters of two types of nozzles: flat tip and round tip. Furthermore, fruit was introduced, and a fluid–structure coupling method was employed to calculate the deformation of fruit stems. Simultaneously, a mechanical analysis was conducted to quantify the relationship between jet characteristics and separation gaps. Simulation and pressure-sensitive experiments show that as the number of holes increases and their diameter decreases, the nozzle’s convergence becomes stronger. The greater the inclination angle of the circular nozzle holes, the more the gas diverges. The analysis of the output characteristics of the working section indicates that the 8-hole 40° round nozzle is the optimal solution. At an air compressor working pressure of 0.5 MPa, force analysis and simulation results both show that it can increase the picking space for the mechanical claw by about 5–7 mm without damaging the blueberries in the jet area. The final field experiments show that the mean distance for Type I (mature fruit) is 5.41 mm, for Type II (red fruit) is 6.42 mm, and for Type III (green fruit) is 5.43 mm. The short and curved stems of the green fruit are less effective, but the minimum distance of 4.71 mm is greater than the claw wall thickness, meeting the design requirements.

IntroductionThis study identifies potential categories of mental health for adolescents in different school years and further analyzes the relationship between these categories and suicidal ideation.MethodsA total of 1944 middle school students completed SCL-90 and Self-rating Idea of Suicide Scale on November 29, 2022, selecting via a whole-group sampling method. Latent profile analysis was used to analyze the psychological health subtypes of students from a middle school in Southwest China. The R3step method and the DU3step method were conducted to analyze the predictive role of demographic variables and the effects of different profiles on suicidal ideation.ResultsDifferent potential categories of psychological health were observed among middle school students. Junior middle school students can be classified into three types: Psychological Health Type (62.3%), Low-risk Type (27.1%) and High-risk Type (10.7%). Senior middle school students can be classified into four types: Psychological Health Type (43.3%), Low-risk Type (33.9%), Medium -risk Type (16.8%), and High-risk Type (6.0%). Gender and subjective family atmosphere are predictors of psychological health, and they also influence the population distribution of psychological health patterns in different sections of middle school students. Girls and students with poor subjective family atmosphere are more prone to experiencing psychological problems. Abstract Magnetotail earthward‐propagating fast plasma flows provide important pathways for magnetosphere‐ionosphere coupling. This study reexamines a flow‐related red‐line diffuse‐like aurora event previously reported by Liang et al. (2011, https://doi.org/10.1029/2010ja015867), utilizing THEMIS and ground‐based auroral observations from Poker Flat. We find that time domain structures (TDSs) within the flow bursts efficiently drive electron precipitation below a few keV, aligning with predominantly red‐line auroral intensifications in this non‐substorm event. The diffuse‐like auroras sometimes coexisted with or potentially evolved from discrete forms. We forward model red‐line diffuse auroras due to TDS‐driven precipitation, employing the time‐dependent TREx‐ATM auroral transport code. The good correlation (∼0.77) between our modeled and observed red line emissions underscores that TDSs are a primary driver of the red‐line diffuse‐like auroras, though whistler‐mode wave contributions are needed to fully explain the most intense red‐line emissions.

Background: Gout is the most common inflammatory arthritis in adults. Gout is an arthritic disease caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystal (MSU) in the joints, which can lead to acute inflammation and damage adjacent tissue. Hyperuricemia is the main risk factor for MSU crystal deposition and gout. With the increasing burden of gout disease, the identification of potential biomarkers and novel targets for diagnosis is urgently needed. Methods: For the analysis of this subject paper, we downloaded the human gout data set GSE160170 and the gout mouse model data set GSE190138 from the GEO database. To obtain the differentially expressed genes (DEGs), we intersected the two data sets. Using the cytohubba algorithm, we identified the key genes and enriched them through GO and KEGG. The gene expression trends of three subgroups (normal control group, intermittent gout group and acute gout attack group) were analyzed by Series Test of Cluster (STC) analysis, and the key genes were screened out, and the diagnostic effect was verified by ROC curve. The expression of key genes in dorsal root nerve and spinal cord of gout mice was analyzed. Finally, the clinical samples of normal control group, hyperuricemia group, intermittent gout group and acute gout attack group were collected, and the expression of key genes at protein level was verified by ELISA. Result: We obtained 59 co-upregulated and 28 co-downregulated genes by comparing the DEGs between gout mouse model data set and human gout data set. 7 hub DEGs(IL1B, IL10, NLRP3, SOCS3, PTGS2) were screened out via Cytohubba algorithm. The results of both GO and KEGG enrichment analyses indicate that 7 hub genes play a significant role in regulating the inflammatory response, cytokine production in immune response, and the TNF signaling pathway. The most representative hub genes SOCS3 and PTGS2 were screened out by Series Test of Cluster, and ROC analysis results showed the AUC values were both up to 1.000. In addition, we found that PTGS2 expression was significantly elevated in the dorsal root ganglia and spinal cord in monosodium urate(MSU)-induced gout mouse model. The ELISA results revealed that the expression of SOCS3 and PTGS2 was notably higher in the acute gout attack and intermittent gout groups compared to the normal control group. This difference was statistically significant, indicating a clear distinction between the groups. Conclusion: Through cross-species comprehensive analysis and experimental verification, SOCS3 and PTGS2 were proved to be new biomarkers for diagnosing gout and predicting disease progression.

Summary: Background: The widespread involvement of tumor-infiltrating B cells highlights their potential role in tumor behavior. However, B cell heterogeneity in PDAC remains unexplored. Studying TIL-Bs in PDAC aims to identify new treatment strategies. Methods: We performed single-cell RNA sequencing to study the heterogeneity of B cells in PDAC. The prognostic and immunologic value of the identified CD38+ B cells was explored in FUSCC (n = 147) and TCGA (n = 176) cohorts. Existing surgical guidewire endpoint localization methods in X‐ray images face challenges owing to their small size, simple appearance, nonrigid nature of objects, low signal‐to‐noise ratio of X‐ray images, and imbalance between the number of guidewire and background pixels, which lead to errors in surgical navigation. An eight‐neighborhood‐based method for increasing the localization accuracy of guidewire endpoint to improve the safety of interventional procedures is proposed herein. The proposed method includes two stages: 1) An improved U‐Net network is employed for segmenting the data of the guidewire to extract regions of interest containing guidewire endpoints with higher precision and to reduce interference from other anatomical structures and imaging artifacts. 2) The proposed method detects guidewire endpoints using the adjacent relationship between pixels in the eight‐neighborhood regions. This stage covers skeletonization extraction, removal of bifurcation points, and repair of fracture points. This study achieves mean pixel errors of 2.02 and 2.13 pixels in an in vivo rabbit and porcine X‐ray fluoroscopy images, outperforming ten classic heatmap and regression methods, achieving state‐of‐the‐art detection results. The proposed method can also be applied to detect other tiny surgical instruments such as stents and balloons, while preserving the flexibility of the guidewire bending angle.

On the backdrop of dwindling conventional reserves, unconventional reservoirs have emerged as a pivotal chapter in resource extraction. Despite their challenges, such as low permeability, complex fluid storage, and flow mechanisms, hydraulic fracturing technology has underpinned the development of unconventional reservoirs. Consequently, this has brought about a shift in the sequence of flow regimes, e.g., the transient radial flow regime has been largely shortened by the lengthy transient linear flow regime due to the low permeability of unconventional reservoirs. Moreover, straight-line analysis (SLA), the simplest technique in rate transient analysis (RTA), is a fundamental and potent tool for swiftly extracting reservoir and hydraulic fracture information, estimating oil and gas reserves, and furnishing crucial initial data for subsequent historical matching processes. However, there is currently a dearth of review papers pertaining to a necessary guide of applying SLA in various transient linear flow (TLF) regimes and different unconventional reservoirs. Hence, this paper commences by elucidating the classification of TLF regimes, commonly used methods for recognizing flow regimes, and the diverse SLA methods used for different TLF regimes. Subsequently, it delves into a discussion of different modification techniques for variable rate/flowing pressure, gas phase, complex reservoir characteristics in unconventional reservoirs, and dynamic drainage area concepts etc. Furthermore, the application of SLA in specific domains, namely core analysis and the flowback period, is described. It culminates by surveying the advancements through an integration of novel technologies to enhance estimation accuracy. The paper also highlights certain drawbacks of current SLA technology and proposes new research directions. Ultimately, this paper would serve as an indispensable resource, offering foundational knowledge for the application of SLA in TLF to promote the production of global unconventional resources in a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable fashion in the face of a climate-resilient world.

Abstract The semi‐hydrogenation of alkyne to form Z‐olefins with high conversion and high selectivity is still a huge challenge in the chemical industry. Moreover, flammable and explosive hydrogen as the common hydrogen source of this reaction increases the cost and danger of industrial production. Herein, we connect the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction and the semi‐hydrogenation reaction of alkynes in series and successfully realize the high selective production of Z‐alkenes using low‐cost, safe, and green water as the proton source. Before the cascade reaction, a series of isomorphic metal–organic cage catalysts (CoxZn8−xL6, x = 0, 3, 4, 5, and 8) are designed and synthesized to improve the yield of the photocatalytic hydrogen production. Among them, Co5Zn3L6 shows the highest photocatalytic activity, with a H2 generation rate of 8.81 mmol g−1 h−1. Then, Co5Zn3L6 is further applied in the above tandem reaction to efficiently reduce alkynes to Z‐alkenes under ambient conditions, which can reach high conversion of >98% and high selectivity of >99%, and maintain original catalytic activity after multiple cycles. This “one‐pot” tandem reaction can achieve a highly selective and safe stepwise conversion from water into hydrogen into Z‐olefins under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract Background Emergence of novel immuno‐therapeutics has shown promising improvement in the clinical outcome of colorectal cancer (CRC). Objective To identify robust immune checkpoints based on expression and immune infiltration profiles of clinical CRC samples. Methods One dataset from The Cancer Genome Atlas database and two from Gene Expression Omnibus were independently employed for the analysis. Genes associated with overall survival were identified, and distribution of each immune checkpoint with respect to different clinical features was determined to explore key immune checkpoints. Multiple staining methods were used to verify the correlation between key immune checkpoint ICOS and clinical pathological features. Differentially expressed mRNA and long non‐coding RNA (lncRNA) were then detected for gene set enrichment analysis and gene set variation analysis to investigate the differentially enriched biological processes between low‐ and high‐expression groups. Significant immune‐related mRNAs and lncRNA were subjected to competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network analysis. Correlation of inducible T‐cell costimulator (ICOS) and top 10 genes in ceRNA network were further considered for validation. Results ICOS was identified from 14 immune checkpoints as the most highly correlated gene with survival and clinical features in CRC. The expression of ICOS protein in the poorly differentiated group was lower than that in the moderately differentiated group, and the expression in different pathological stages was significant. In addition, the expressions of ICOS were negatively correlated with Ki67. A conspicuous number of immune‐related pathways were enriched in differentially expressed genes in the ICOS high‐ and low‐expression groups. Integration with immune infiltration data revealed a multitude of differentially expressed immune‐related genes enriched for ceRNA network. Furthermore, expression of top 10 genes investigated from ceRNA network showed high correlation with ICOS. Conclusion ICOS might serve as a robust immune checkpoint for prognosis with several genes being potential targets of ICOS‐directed immunotherapy in CRC.

Background: Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor and antiangiogenic agent monotherapy have shown to be effective as maintenance treatment in patients with ovarian cancer (OC). However, there is currently a lack of evidence-based study to directly compare the effects of combination therapy with these two drugs. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of combination therapy with PARP inhibitors and antiangiogenic agents in women with OC using a meta-analysis.Methods: An exhaustive search of literature was undertaken using multiple databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to identify pertinent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published up until 17 December 2023. The data on progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse events (AEs) were pooled. We computed the pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for PFS and OS, along with the relative risks (RRs) and 95% CIs for AEs. Trial sequential analysis, heterogeneity test, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias assessment were performed. Stata 12.0 and Software R 4.3.1 were utilized for all analyses.Results: This meta-analysis included 7 RCTs with a total of 3,388 participants. The overall analysis revealed that combination therapy of PARP inhibitors and antiangiogenic agents significantly improved PFS (HR = 0.615, 95% CI = 0.517–0.731; 95% PI = 0.379–0.999), but also increased the risk of AEs, including urinary tract infection (RR = 1.500, 95% CI = 1.114–2.021; 95% PI = 0.218–10.346), fatigue (RR = 1.264, 95% CI = 1.141–1.400; 95% PI = 1.012–1.552), headache (RR = 1.868, 95% CI = 1.036–3.369; 95% PI = 0.154–22.642), anorexia (RR = 1.718, 95% CI = 1.320–2.235; 95% PI = 0.050–65.480), and hypertension (RR = 5.009, 95% CI = 1.103–22.744; 95% PI = 0.016–1580.021) compared with PARP inhibitor or antiangiogenic agent monotherapy. Our study has not yet confirmed the benefit of combination therapy on OS in OC patients (HR = 0.885, 95% CI = 0.737–1.063). Additionally, subgroup analyses further showed that combination therapy resulted in an increased risk of AEs, encompassing thrombocytopenia, vomiting, abdominal pain, proteinuria, fatigue, headache, anorexia, and hypertension (all p < 0.05).Conclusion: Our study demonstrated the PFS benefit of combination therapy with PARP inhibitors and antiangiogenic agents in patients with OC. The OS result need to be updated after the original trial data is mature.
