27. Initial Application of Fluorescence Imaging for Intraoperative Localization of Small Neuroendocrine Tumors in the Pancreas: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Abstract

Background: Indocyanine green is commonly used for laparoscopic hepatectomy but remains uncommon in pancreatic surgery. Given the increasing number of small neuroendocrine tumors found in the pancreas and the heavy reliance on laparoscopic ultrasound for intraoperative localization, we attempted to use indocyanine green for these tumors. Our results show good localization and have the potential to provide a valuable clinical aid. Case Presentation: This case report details five patients with preoperative diagnosis of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors of small endocrine tumors, intraoperative successful localization, and successful completion of laparoscopic partial resection of pancreatic tumors by indocyanine green fluorescence staining; none of the patients experienced serious complications after surgery and were discharged from the hospital, and routine pathology confirmed that four cases were pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors of G1 stage, and one case was pancreatic neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia. Conclusion: Fluorescence imaging technology safely aids in the intraoperative localization of small pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Metal-based nanomaterials (MNMs) possess exceptional properties that have led to their widespread use in various fields, including medicine, energy, electronics, and agriculture. However, this increased utilization of MNMs also raises concerns about their potential release into environmental compartments, such as soil, water bodies, and the atmosphere, which could adversely affect the environmental system and living organisms. Hence, it is crucial to investigate the environmental risks associated with MNMs. This review comprehensively discusses the adverse effects of MNMs at different levels, including organismal, tissue, metabolic, molecular, and genetic levels. Additionally, it offers a holistic perspective on their overall impact. Specifically, biological models are categorized based on the environmental medium, and the effects of MNMs on tissues, organs, growth, development, and reproduction of individual biological models are summarized. Furthermore, the mechanisms underlying the toxicity of different MNMs toward biological models are also discussed. Abstract

A movable teeth driving system integrated with shape memory alloy（ SMA） and movable teeth reduction drive is proposed,which used SMA wires to drive the movable teeth transmission system and realize torque output. It has the advantages of small size,low speed and large torque. The structure and working principle of the SMA movable teeth driving system are introduced,the main performance design process and parameters of the system are given. And force conditions of movable teeth transmission system in the system are analyzed,the forces on the movable teeth of wave generator,movable teeth rack and center wheel changed along with output shaft angles are obtained. The results laid a theoretical basis on dynamics analysis and experimental research of the SMA movable teeth driving system.

Abstract

Nickel (Ni) is a trace element beneficial for plant growth and development and could improve crop yield by stimulating urea decomposition and nitrogen-fixing enzyme activity. A full life cycle study was conducted to compare the long-term effects of soil-applied NiO nanoparticles (n-NiO), NiO bulk (b-NiO), and NiSO4 at 10-200 mg kg-1 on plant growth and nutritional content of soybean. n-NiO at 50 mg kg-1 significantly promoted the seed yield by 39%. Only 50 mg kg-1n-NiO promoted total fatty acid content and starch content by 28 and 19%, respectively. The increased yield and nutrition could be attributed to the regulatory effects of n-NiO, including photosynthesis, mineral homeostasis, phytohormone, and nitrogen metabolism. Furthermore, n-NiO maintained a Ni2+ supply for more extended periods than NiSO4, reducing potential phytotoxicity concerns. Single-particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (sp-ICP-MS) for the first time confirmed that the majority of the Ni in seeds is in ionic form, with only 28-34% as n-NiO. These findings deepen our understanding of the potential of nanoscale and non-nanoscale Ni to accumulate and translocate in soybean, as well as the long-term fate of these materials in agricultural soils as a strategy for nanoenabled agriculture.

Abstract

Nanoplastics (NPs) are accumulating in the soil environment at a rapid rate, which may cause serious consequences for ecosystems and human health. However, environmental behaviour and toxicity of NPs in the soil-plant system remain poorly understood. This review summarizes current studies on NP-plant interactions to unravel uptake mechanisms and phytotoxicity of NPs. NPs could be taken up by plant roots and transported upwards through the xylem to all organs of the plant, even to the edible parts such as the grain, thereby threatening human health. The interaction of NPs with plants affects plant transport of water and nutrients. Besides, it induces significant oxidative stress leading to inhibition of physiological and biochemical activities such as photosynthesis, and thus adversely affects plant growth and development. In addition, the co-transport of NPs with other soil pollutants may induce the combined toxic effects. This study also discussed the potential mechanism of NP-plant interactions based on previous experience with engineered nanomaterials. Finally, a comprehensive assessment of the key challenges in each area was presented, and future perspectives are offered.
