Background: C1q tumor necrosis factor (TNF) related proteins 9 (CTRP9) is a novel adipocytokine that has been shown to have a cardioprotective effect in coronary artery disease (CAD). However, there are conflicting results on circulating levels of CTRP9 in patients with and without CAD. This meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the association between circulating CTRP9 levels and CAD. Objective: The aim of this meta-analysis was to re-examine the relationship between circulating CTRP9 levels and CAD. Methods: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang Data, and CBM for relevant studies up to October 2023, and 193 articles were identified. After reading the title, abstract and full text, a total of 25 articles were included in this meta-analysis. A prespecified protocol registered at INPLASY was followed (INPLASY202450066). Due to the high heterogeneity, we performed subgroup analyses and meta-regression based on patient characteristics, complications, clinical biochemical indicators, coronary artery lesion, and CAD classification. Publication bias was assessed using Egger's linear regression tests, Begg's rank correlation tests, and funnel plots. Results: The results showed that the patient with CAD had significantly lower circulating CTRP9 levels than the control group (Z = 3.26, P = 0.001). Subgroup analysis and meta-regression findings demonstrated that observed heterogeneity could be attributed to population distribution. Patient characteristics (year of publication, patients' age, and BMI), complications (diabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)), clinical biochemical indicators, coronary artery lesion (stability of coronary atherosclerotic plaque, and the number of diseased coronary vessels), and classification of CAD were not identified as source of heterogeneity. Conclusions: The meta-analysis confirmed that circulating CTRP9 levels in CAD patients are significantly lower than those in patients without CAD. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) based on chemical mechanism (CM) has great potential for superior stability and selectivity. Moreover, a bioinspired CM-Raman substrate-Raman reporter system with charge separation and electron transport nature provides thylakoid-mimicking potential for multifunctional applications. Herein, hollow carbon nitride nanospheres hierarchically assembled with a well-oriented copper(ii) phthalocyanine layer and hyaluronic acid (HCNs@CuPc@HA) were designed as a light-harvesting nanocomposite and photosynthesis-mimicking nanoscaffold that enhance both CM-SERS and photoredox catalysis. Remarkable SERS enhancement was achieved due to the strengthened short-range substrate-molecule interaction, enriched CuPc molecule loading and enhanced light-mater interactions. Meanwhile, the uniform CuPc molecule film mimics a photo-pigment to accelerate the near infrared (NIR)-oxygen generation and photodynamic catalysis of photosynthetic membrane-like HCNs. The experimental findings were further validated by numerical theory analysis. Previous studies have demonstrated that excessive reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (ROS/RNS)‑induced apoptosis is an important feature of the injury to the lung epithelium in paraquat (PQ) poisoning. However the precise mechanisms of PQ‑induced dysfunction of the mitochondria, where ROS/RNS are predominantly produced, remain to be fully elucidated. Whether globular adiponectin (gAd), a potent molecule protective to mitochondria, regulates the mitochondrial function of alveolar type II cells to reduce PQ‑induced ROS/RNS production remains to be investigated. The current study aimed to investigate the precise mechanisms of PQ poisoning in the mitochondria of alveolar type II cells, and to elucidate the role of gAd in protecting against PQ‑induced lung epithelium injury. Therefore, lung epithelial injury was induced by PQ co‑culture of alveolar type II A549 cells for 24 h. gAd was administrated to and removed from the injured cells in after 24 h. PQ was observed to reduce cell viability and increase apoptosis by ~1.5 fold in A549 cells. The oxidative/nitrative stress, resulting from ROS/RNS and disordered mitochondrial function were evidenced by increased O2‑., NO production and reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ), adenosine 5'‑triphosphate (ATP) content in PQ‑poisoned A549 cells. gAd treatment significantly reversed the PQ‑induced cell injury and mitochondrial dysfunction in A549 cells. The protective effects of gAd were partly abrogated by an adenosine 5'‑monophosphate‑activated protein kinase (AMPK) inhibitor, compound C. The results suggest that reduced ΔΨ and ATP content may result in PQ‑induced mitochondrial dysfunction of the lung epithelium, which constitutes a novel mechanism for gAd exerting pulmonary protection against PQ poisoning via AMPK activation.

The specific mechanisms underlying paraquat (PQ)-induced lung injury remain unknown, which limits understanding of its cytotoxic potential. Although oxidative stress has been established as an important mechanism underlying PQ toxicity, multiple antioxidants have proven ineffective in attenuating the deleterious effects of PQ. Adiponectin, which shows anti-oxidative and antinitrative effects, may have the potential to reduce PQ-mediated injury. The present study determined the protective action of globular domain adiponectin (gAd) on PQ-induced lung injury, and attempted to elucidate the underlying mechanism or mechanisms of action. BALB/c mice were administered PQ, with and without 12 or 36 h of gAd pre-treatment. The pulmonary oxidative/nitrative status was assessed by measuring pulmonary O 2 •- , superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO) and 8-hydroxy-2-dydeoxy guanosine (8-OHdG) production, and blood 3-Nitrotyrosine (3-NT). At a dose of 20 mg/kg, PQ markedly increased O 2 •- , SOD, MDA, NO and 8-OHdG production 3 h post-administration, but did not significantly increase 3-NT levels until 12 h. gAd inhibited these changes in a dose-dependent manner, via transient activation of MDA, followed by attenuation of MDA formation from 6 h onwards. Histological analysis demonstrated that gAd decreased interstitial edema and inflammatory cell infiltration. These results suggest that gAd protects against PQ-induced lung injury by mitigating oxidative/nitrative stress. Furthermore, gAd may be a potential therapeutic agent for PQ-induced lung injury, and further pharmacological studies are therefore warranted.

Objective: To investigate the performance of revised trauma score (RTS), CRAMS score (circulation, respiration, abdomen, motor and speech) and prehospital index (PHI) on evaluation of injury severity in earthquake victims., Methods: Data of victims admitted to West China Hospital of Sichuan University during the Lushan earthquake from April 20th, 2013, to April 27th were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical information at admission was recorded, and the injury severity score (ISS), RTS, CRAMS and PHI were calculated. The optimal cut-off values were looked for, the comparability between the three scores and ISS score were figured out by receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC curve), and the correlation between ISS and three scores was analyzed by linear regression analysis., Results: There was a total of 263 victims included in the study. ISS ≥ 16 was found in 86 cases, and ISS<16 in 177 victims, and there were significant statistic differences in male ratio (67.4% vs. 50.8%, χ² = 6.477, P=0.011), RTS score [7.55 (0.29) vs. 7.84 (0), U=6 825, P=0.013] and CRAMS scores [8 (1) vs. 9 (1), U=3 977, P=0.000] between two groups. It was showed by ROC curve analysis that the area under the ROC curve (AUC) of RTS, CRAMS and PHI was 0.547 (P=0.220), 0.734 (P=0.000) and 0.544 (P=0.250), and the Youden indexes of the three scores were 0.093, 0.443, and 0.119, respectively. Moreover, the best cut-off values of them were 4.9, 9.5 and 3.5. Linear regression analysis showed that RTS and CRAMS score showed negative correlation with ISS score (r₁=-0.139, P₁=0.024; r₂=-0.413, P₂=0.000), while PHI showed no relationship with it (r=0.071, P=0.250)., Conclusions: Of these three scoring systems, CRAMS has the best correlation with ISS, and it can be used in the prompt assessment of trauma severity in earthquake victims.
