Abstract

Precise direct cosmic-ray (CR) measurements provide an important probe to study the energetic particle sources in our Galaxy, and the interstellar environment through which these particles propagate. Uncertainties on hadronic models, ion-nucleon cross sections in particular, are currently the limiting factor towards obtaining more accurate CR ion flux measurements with calorimetric space-based experiments. We present an energy-dependent measurement of the inelastic cross section of protons and helium-4 nuclei (alpha particles) on a Bi$_4$Ge$_3$O$_{12}$ target, using 88 months of data collected by the DAMPE space mission. The kinetic energy range per nucleon of the measurement points ranges from 18 GeV to 9 TeV for protons, and from 5 GeV/n to 3 TeV/n for helium-4 nuclei. Our results lead to a significant improvement of the CR flux normalisation. Abstract

Recent observations of the light component of the cosmic-ray spectrum have revealed unexpected features that motivate further and more precise measurements up to the highest energies. The Dark Matter Particle Explorer is a satellite-based cosmic-ray experiment that has been operational since December 2015, continuously collecting data on high-energy cosmic particles with very good statistics, energy resolution, and particle identification capabilities. In this work, the latest measurements of the energy spectrum of proton+helium in the energy range from 46 GeV to 464 TeV are presented. Among the most distinctive features of the spectrum, a spectral hardening at 600 GeV has been observed, along with a softening at 29 TeV measured with a 6.6{\sigma} significance. Moreover, the detector features and the analysis approach allowed for the extension of the spectral measurement up to the sub-PeV region. 3. Understanding many-body physics in one dimension from the Lieb-Liniger model

Abstract

This article presents an elementary introduction on various aspects of the prototypical integrable model the Lieb-Liniger Bose gas ranging from the cooperative to the collective features of many-body phenomena [1]. In 1963 Lieb and Liniger first solved this quantum field theory many-body problem using the Bethe's hypothesis, i.e. a particular form of wave function introduced by Bethe in solving the one-dimensional Heisenberg model in 1931. Despite the Lieb-Liniger model is arguably the simplest exactly solvable model, it exhibits rich quantum many-body physics in terms of the aspects of mathematical integrability and physical universality. Moreover, the Yang-Yang grand canonical ensemble description for the model provides us with a deep understanding of quantum statistics, thermodynamics and quantum critical phenomena at the many-body physics level. Recently, such fundamental physics of this exactly solved model has been attracting growing interest in experiments. Since 2004, there have been more than 20 experimental papers that report novel observations of different physical aspects of the Lieb-Liniger model in the lab. So far the observed results to date are seen to be in excellent agreement with results obtained using the analysis of this simplest exactly solved model. 4. Critical behaviours of contact near phase transitions

Abstract

A central quantity of importance for ultracold atoms is contact, which measures two-body correlations at short distances in dilute systems. It appears in universal relations among thermodynamic quantities, such as large momentum tails, energy, and dynamic structure factors, through the renowned Tan relations. However, a conceptual question remains open as to whether or not contact can signify phase transitions that are insensitive to short-range physics. Here we show that, near a continuous classical or quantum phase transition, contact exhibits a variety of critical behaviors, including scaling laws and critical exponents that are uniquely determined by the universality class of the phase transition and a constant contact per particle. We also use a prototypical exactly solvable model to demonstrate these critical behaviors in one-dimensional strongly interacting fermions. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: LncRNA differentiation antagonizing non-protein coding RNA (DANCR) is an oncogene in various malignant cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Autophagy is an intracellular self-digestion mechanism that accelerates the progression of HCC via promoting cell survival. However, the role of lncRNA DANCR in HCC, and the mechanism of lncRNA DANCR in the regulation of autophagy in HCC remains unknown. Therefore, the aims of this study are the investigation of the role of lncRNA DANCR in HCC, and the exploration of the molecular mechanism of lncRNA DANCR in regulating autophagy of HCC cells. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this study, the expression of lncRNA DANCR, miR-222-3p, and autophagy-related gene 7 (ATG7) was detected by qRT-PCR. The cell proliferation and colony formation were measured by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and colony formation assay. And the autophagic flux was evaluated by mRFPGFP- LC3B reporter. The autophagy related proteins were analyzed by Western blotting. Besides, the relationship between lncRNA DANCR and miR-222-3p, as well as between miR-222-3p and ATG7, was determined by Dual-Luciferase reporter system. RESULTS: We found high expression of lncRNA DANCR and ATG7, and low expression of miR-222-3p in HCC tissues and cell lines. And lncRNA DANCR positively correlated with poor survival of HCC patients. Moreover, the knockdown of lncRNA DANCR inhibited cell proliferation and autophagy of HCC cells. And we predicted and proved that lncRNA DANCR induced cell proliferation, colony formation and autophagy by increasing ATG7 and suppressing miR- 222-3p. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates the promoting role of lncRNA DANCR in HCC, and indicates the regulatory effects of lncRNA DANCR on regulating autophagy of HCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The primary energy dependecne and atomic-number dependence of backscattered electrons in Auger electron spectroscopy in the EN(E) mode have been investigated both theoretically and experimentally. A Monte Carlo simulation method with inclusion of cascade-secondary-electron production has been used to calculate the full energy distribution of backscattered electrons from the elastic peak down to the true-secondary-electron peak. The simulation model is based on the use of a dielectric function for describing inelastic scattering and secondary excitation, and on the use of Mott cross sections for elastic scattering. A systematic comparison between the calculated and experimental spectra measured with a cylindrical mirror analyzer has been made for Au, Ag, and Cu and for primary energies ranging from 0.5 to 5 keV. Reasonable agreement was obtained for the backscattering background at primary energies in the keV region. A significant contribution of cascade-secondary electrons to the measured spectra on the low-energy side (less than 200 eV ) was found. Experiments performed on elements with a wide range of atomic numbers have shown a quantitative common curve of the backscattering continuum when plotted on a logarithmic intensity scale in the intermediate energy region between 200 eV and the low-loss peaks. Abstract

As the water resource management progresses rapidly in recent years, middle and long-term runoff forecast has become increasingly important. Conventional multi-category runoff prediction usually utilizes manually specified threshold values to categorize runoff categories. However, this approach is arguably subjective, and it neglects fuzziness and peculiarity of hydrometeorological time series. To address this issue, a new concept, forecast domain, is proposed in this study. Cluster analysis of runoff time series was carried out with the Gaussian Mixture Model, and Support Vector Classification was then used to establish the nonlinear relationships between forecast domain and various potential predictors. The current study focuses on the Danjiangkou Reservoir, the source of the Central Route of the South-North Water Transfer Project in China. We use the 25-year data (1981-2005) for model training, and the Danjiangkou runoff data during last 11 years (2006-2016) are used for model validation. It is shown that the runoff forecast domain obtained from the unsupervised clustering is reasonable and appropriate for categorizing runoff categories. Further forecast experiments reveal that this model may shed some light on the prediction of annual mean runoff at the Danjiangkou Reservoir. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) has been identified as a conserved epitranscriptomic modification of eukaryotic mRNAs, and plays important biological roles in the regulation of cellular metabolic processes. However, its role in myogenic differentiation is unclear. Here, we altered the m6A RNA methylation level by overexpression of METTL3, and explored the effect of m6A RNA methylation on myogenic differentiation of murine myoblasts in vitro. The m6A RNA methylation level is regulated by exogenous methylation inhibitor cycloleucine (Cyc) and methyl donor betaine (Bet). Therefore, chemical reagents of Cyc and Bet were used to test the regulatory effect of m6A RNA methylation on myogenic differentiation. Results showed that METTL3 and Bet positively regulated the m6A RNA methylation levels, and Cyc negatively regulated m6A RNA methylation levels. In addition, m6A methylation positively regulated myogenic differentiation in murine myoblasts. These findings provide insight in the mechanisms underlying the effect of m6A RNA methylation on myogenesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
