We present an unconventional mechanism for quantum nonlinearity in a system comprising of a V-type quantum emitter (QE) and two Fabry-Perot cavities. The two transitions of the V-type QE are effectively coupled with two independent cavity modes. The system exhibits a strong quantum nonlinear control in the transmission even at the single-photon level, which we refer to as quantum cross nonlinearity. The underlying physics can be understood as quantum competition between the two transitions of the QE sharing a common ground state. By leveraging this quantum cross nonlinearity, we further show photon-number-resolving quantum nondestructive detection. Owing to the widespread nature of this V-type configuration, our approach can be readily extended to diverse cavity quantum electrodynamic systems beyond the realm of optics, encompassing, e.g., microwave photons and acoustic wave phonons. This versatility may facilitate numerous unique applications for quantum information processing.

Mathematically, topological invariants arise from the parallel transport of eigenstates on the energy bands, which, in physics, correspond to the adiabatic dynamical evolution of transient states. It determines the presence of boundary states, while lacking direct measurements. Here, we develop time-varying programmable coupling circuits between acoustic cavities to mimic the Hamiltonians in the Brillouin zone, with which excitation and adiabatic evolution of bulk states are realized in a unit cell. By extracting the Berry phases of the bulk band, topological invariants, including the Zak phase for the SSH model and the Chern number for the AAH model, are obtained convincingly. The bulk state evolution also provides insight into the topological charges of our newly developed non-Abelian models, which are also verified by observing the adiabatic eigenframe rotation. Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) are central to our interaction with digital devices. Recently, growing efforts have been made to build models for various GUI understanding tasks. However, these efforts largely overlook an important GUI-referring task: screen reading based on user-indicated points, which we name the Screen Point-and-Read (SPR) task. This task is predominantly handled by rigid accessible screen reading tools, in great need of new models driven by advancements in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs). In this paper, we propose a Tree-of-Lens (ToL) agent, utilizing a novel ToL grounding mechanism, to address the SPR task. Based on the input point coordinate and the corresponding GUI screenshot, our ToL agent constructs a Hierarchical Layout Tree. Based on the tree, our ToL agent not only comprehends the content of the indicated area but also articulates the layout and spatial relationships between elements. Such layout information is crucial for accurately interpreting information on the screen, distinguishing our ToL agent from other screen reading tools. We also thoroughly evaluate the ToL agent against other baselines on a newly proposed SPR benchmark, which includes GUIs from mobile, web, and operating systems. Last but not least, we test the ToL agent on mobile GUI navigation tasks, demonstrating its utility in identifying incorrect actions along the path of agent execution trajectories. Spoken Language Understanding (SLU) is a critical component of voice assistants; it consists of converting speech to semantic parses for task execution. Previous works have explored end-to-end models to improve the quality and robustness of SLU models with Deliberation, however these models have remained autoregressive, resulting in higher latencies. In this work we introduce PRoDeliberation, a novel method leveraging a Connectionist Temporal Classification-based decoding strategy as well as a denoising objective to train robust non-autoregressive deliberation models. We show that PRoDeliberation achieves the latency reduction of parallel decoding (2-10x improvement over autoregressive models) while retaining the ability to correct Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) mistranscriptions of autoregressive deliberation systems. We further show that the design of the denoising training allows PRoDeliberation to overcome the limitations of small ASR devices, and we provide analysis on the necessity of each component of the system.

Phase transitions, non-Hermiticity and nonreciprocity play central roles in fundamental physics. However, the triple interplay of these three fields is of lack in the quantum domain. Here, we show nonreciprocal parity-time-symmetric phase transition in a non-Hermitian chiral quantum electrodynamical system, caused by the directional system dissipation. In remarkable contrast to previously reported nonreciprocal phase transitions, the nonreciprocal parity-time-symmetric phases appear even when the atom-resonator coupling is reciprocal. Nonreciprocal photon blockade is obtained in the nonreciprocal phase region. These results may deepen the fundamental insight of nonreciprocal and non-Hermitian quantum physics, and also open a new door for unconventional quantum manipulation., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Nonreciprocal optical devices are essential for laser protection, modern optical communication and quantum information processing by enforcing one-way light propagation. The conventional Faraday magneto-optical nonreciprocal devices rely on a strong magnetic field, which is provided by a permanent magnet. As a result, the isolation direction of such devices is fixed and severely restricts their applications in quantum networks.In this work, we experimentally demonstrate the simultaneous one-way transmission and unidirectional reflection by using a magneto-optical Fabry-P\'{e}rot cavity and a magnetic field strength of $50~\milli\tesla$. An optical isolator and a three-port quasi-circulator are realized based on this nonreciprocal cavity system. The isolator achieves an isolation ratio of up to $22~\deci\bel$ and an averaged insertion loss down to $0.97~\deci\bel$. The quasi-circulator is realized with a fidelity exceeding $99\%$ and an overall survival probability of $89.9\%$, corresponding to an insertion loss of $\sim 0.46~\deci\bel$. The magnetic field is provided by an electromagnetic coil, thereby allowing for reversing the light circulating path. Superconducting domes, ubiquitous across a variety of quantum materials, are often understood as a window favorite for pairing opened by the fluctuations of competing orders. Yet, a quantitative understanding of how such a window closes is missing. Here, we show that inelastic neutron scattering, by quantifying a length scale associated with polar fluctuations, $\ell_0$, addresses this issue. We find that the superconducting dome of strontium titanate definitely ends when $\ell_0$ vanishes. Moreover, the product of $\ell_0$ and the Fermi wavevector peaks close to the maximum critical temperature. Thus, this superconducting dome stems from the competition between the increase of the density of states and the unavoidable collapse of the quantum paraelectric phase, both induced by doping. The successful quantitative account of both the peak and the end of the superconducting dome implies a central role in the pairing mechanism played by the soft ferro-electric mode and its hybridisation with the acoustic branch. Classification-regression prediction networks have realized impressive success in several modern deep trackers. However, there is an inherent difference between classification and regression tasks, so they have diverse even opposite demands for feature matching. Existed models always ignore the key issue and only employ a unified matching block in two task branches, decaying the decision quality. Besides, these models also struggle with decision misalignment situation. In this paper, we propose a multi-attention associate prediction network (MAPNet) to tackle the above problems. Concretely, two novel matchers, i.e., category-aware matcher and spatial-aware matcher, are first designed for feature comparison by integrating self, cross, channel or spatial attentions organically. They are capable of fully capturing the category-related semantics for classification and the local spatial contexts for regression, respectively. Then, we present a dual alignment module to enhance the correspondences between two branches, which is useful to find the optimal tracking solution. Finally, we describe a Siamese tracker built upon the proposed prediction network, which achieves the leading performance on five tracking benchmarks, consisting of LaSOT, TrackingNet, GOT-10k, TNL2k and UAV123, and surpasses other state-of-the-art approaches.

Edge AI has been recently proposed to facilitate the training and deployment of Deep Neural Network (DNN) models in proximity to the sources of data. To enable the training of large models on resource-constraint edge devices and protect data privacy, parallel split learning is becoming a practical and popular approach. However, current parallel split learning neglects the resource heterogeneity of edge devices, which may lead to the straggler issue. In this paper, we propose EdgeSplit, a novel parallel split learning framework to better accelerate distributed model training on heterogeneous and resource-constraint edge devices. EdgeSplit enhances the efficiency of model training on less powerful edge devices by adaptively segmenting the model into varying depths. Our approach focuses on reducing total training time by formulating and solving a task scheduling problem, which determines the most efficient model partition points and bandwidth allocation for each device. We employ a straightforward yet effective alternating algorithm for this purpose. The clustering method based on graph models has garnered increased attention for its widespread applicability across various knowledge domains. Its adaptability to integrate seamlessly with other relevant applications endows the graph model-based clustering analysis with the ability to robustly extract "natural associations" or "graph structures" within datasets, facilitating the modelling of relationships between data points. Despite its efficacy, the current clustering method utilizing the graph-based model overlooks the uncertainty associated with random walk access between nodes and the embedded structural information in the data. To address this gap, we present a novel Clustering method for Maximizing Decoding Information within graph-based models, named CMDI. CMDI innovatively incorporates two-dimensional structural information theory into the clustering process, consisting of two phases: graph structure extraction and graph vertex partitioning. Within CMDI, graph partitioning is reformulated as an abstract clustering problem, leveraging maximum decoding information to minimize uncertainty associated with random visits to vertices. Empirical evaluations on three real-world datasets demonstrate that CMDI outperforms classical baseline methods, exhibiting a superior decoding information ratio (DI-R). Furthermore, CMDI showcases heightened efficiency, particularly when considering prior knowledge (PK). Multipanel images, commonly seen as web screenshots, posters, etc., pervade our daily lives. These images, characterized by their composition of multiple subfigures in distinct layouts, effectively convey information to people. Toward building advanced multimodal AI applications, such as agents that understand complex scenes and navigate through webpages, the skill of multipanel visual reasoning is essential, and a comprehensive evaluation of models in this regard is important. Therefore, we introduce Multipanel Visual Question Answering (MultipanelVQA), a novel benchmark comprising 6,600 triplets of questions, answers, and multipanel images that specifically challenge models in comprehending multipanel images. Our evaluation shows that questions in the MultipanelVQA benchmark pose significant challenges to the state-of-the-art Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) tested, even though humans can attain approximately 99% accuracy on these questions. Distinctively, the MultipanelVQA benchmark features synthetically generated multipanel images specifically crafted to isolate and assess the impact of various factors, such as the layout, on MLLMs' multipanel image comprehension abilities. As a result, in addition to benchmarking the capabilities of MLLMs in understanding multipanel images, we analyze various factors of the multipanel image that affect MLLMs' performance with synthetic data and offer insights for enhancement. Deep learning in digital pathology brings intelligence and automation as substantial enhancements to pathological analysis, the gold standard of clinical diagnosis. However, multiple steps from tissue preparation to slide imaging introduce various image corruptions, making it difficult for deep neural network (DNN) models to achieve stable diagnostic results for clinical use. In order to assess and further enhance the robustness of the models, we analyze the physical causes of the full-stack corruptions throughout the pathological life-cycle and propose an Omni-Corruption Emulation (OmniCE) method to reproduce 21 types of corruptions quantified with 5-level severity. We then construct three OmniCE-corrupted benchmark datasets at both patch level and slide level and assess the robustness of popular DNNs in classification and segmentation tasks. Further, we explore to use the OmniCE-corrupted datasets as augmentation data for training and experiments to verify that the generalization ability of the models has been significantly enhanced.

Crystals and glasses differ by the amplitude and the temperature dependence of their thermal conductivity. However, there are crystals known to display glass-like thermal conductivity. Here, we show that EuTiO$_3$, a quantum paraelectric known to order antiferromagnetically at 5.5 K, is one such system. The temperature dependence of resistivity and Seebeck coefficient yield an insulating band gap of $\sim 0.22$ eV. Thermal conductivity is drastically reduced. Its amplitude and temperature dependence are akin to what is seen in amorphous silica. Comparison with non-magnetic perovskite solids, SrTiO$_3$, KTaO$_3$, and EuCoO$_3$, shows that what impedes heat transport are $4f$ spins at Eu$^{2+}$ sites, which couple to phonons well above the ordering temperature. Thus, in this case, superexchange and valence fluctuations, not magnetic frustration, are the drivers of the glass-like thermal conductivity., Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures, including a supplement

The temperature dependence of the phase space for electron-electron (e-e) collisions leads to a T-square contribution to electrical resistivity of metals. Umklapp scattering are identified as the origin of momentum loss due to e-e scattering in dense metals. However, in dilute metals like lightly doped strontium titanate, the origin of T-square electrical resistivity in absence of Umklapp events is yet to be pinned down. Here, by separating electron and phonon contributions to heat transport, we extract the electronic thermal resistivity in niobium-doped strontium titanate and show that it also displays a T-square temperature dependence. Its amplitude correlates with the T-square electrical resistivity. The Wiedemann-Franz law strictly holds in the zero-temperature limit, but not at finite-temperature, because the two T-square prefactors are different by a factor of $\approx 3$, like in other Fermi liquids. Recalling the case of $^3$He, we argue that T-square thermal resistivity does not require Umklapp events. The approximate recovery of the Wiedemann-Franz law in presence of disorder would account for a T-square electrical resistivity without Umklapp.
