5. The effect of farmland suitability for agricultural machinery operation on non-grain conversion in hilly and mountain areas of China

Abstract

[Objective] In the background of the increasing trend of non-grain production in hilly and mountainous areas of China, it is of great practical significance to explore the mechanism of the farmland suitability for agricultural machinery operation (FSAM) on the mitigation of non-grain production and empirically measure its specific impact degree. [Methods] This paper constructed farmer’s production decision-making model, which based on profit maximization constraints, and derived the influence mechanism. This paper used the national agricultural mechanization survey data organized by the Agricultural Mechanization Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs from May to July 2020, measured the degree of FSAM from three perspectives of plot size, plot flatness and plot accessibility, to empirically measure the mitigation degree of FSAM to non-grain production in hilly and mountainous areas of China. [Results] It is found that: (1) Against the backdrop of rapidly rising labor costs, mature mechanization technology for grain crops, and lagging mechanization technology for non-grain crops, enhancing FSAM can effectively reduce the degree of non-grain farming among farmers. (2) The transmission path for reducing the degree of non-grain farming through improving FSAM is as follows: Enhanced FSAM lowers the price of agricultural machinery factors, prompting farmers to increase the level of agricultural mechanization for replacing labor with cheaper agricultural machinery factors. Given the immaturity of mechanization technology for non-grain crops, farmers opt to plant more grain crops, thereby reducing the degree of non-grain farming. (3) There exists scale heterogeneity in the impact of FSAM on non-grain farming, meaning that compared to small-scale farmers, the degree of farmland suitability for mechanization has a more significant impact on the degree of non-grain farming among large-scale farmers. [Conclusion] On the whole, the high degree of FSAM operations can effectively reduces the cost of agricultural machinery in grain production, promotes labor substitution and cost reduction in grain production, and helps to alleviate the problem of non-grain production in hill and mountain areas of China, and thus ensures food security.

24. Investigation of the phase occurrence and H sorption properties in the Y33.33Ni66.67-xAlx (0 <= x <= 33.33) system

Abstract

The Y33.33Ni66.67-xAlx system has been investigated in the region 0 <= x <= 33.3. The alloys were synthesized by induction melting. Phase occurrence and structural properties were studied by X-Ray powder Diffraction (XRD). The Al solubility in each phase has been investigated by XRD and Electron Probe Micro-Analysis (EPMA). The hydrogenation properties were characterized by pressure-composition isotherm measurements and kinetic curves at 473 K. For x = 0, the binary Y33.33Ni66.67 alloy crystallizes in the cubic superstructure with F4-3m space group and ordered Y vacancies. For 1.67 <= x <= 8.33, the alloys contain mainly Y(Ni, Al)2 and Y(Ni, Al)3 pseudobinary phases; while for 16.67 <= x <= 33.33 they are mainly formed by ternary line compounds Y3Ni6Al2, Y2Ni2Al and YNiAl. Contrary to the binary Y33.33Ni66.67, Y(Ni, Al)2 pseudo-binary compounds crystalize in C15 phase (space group Fd-3m ) with disordered Y vacancies. The solubility limit of Al in the C15 YNi2-yAly phase is y = 0.11 (i.e., x = 3.67). The Y(Ni, Al)3 phase changes from rhombohedral (PuNi3-type, R-3m) to hexagonal (CeNi3-type, P63/mmc) structure for x increasing from 5.00 to 6.67. Upon hydrogenation, the disproportion of C15 Y(Ni, Al)2 and losses of crystallinity of YNi and Y2Ni2Al are the main reasons causing capacity decay of Y33.33Ni66.67-xAlx (0 <= x <= 33.33) alloys upon cycling.

Abstract

Sichuan hilly area is located in southwest China, which have many hilly area, is a densely populated, economically active, frequent geological disasters area. In this paper, Neijiang City in the region is taken as the test sample. This article, which analyzes Land-Use and Land-Cover Changes (LUCC), meteorological and hydrological data from 2015 to 2020, takes Neijiang City in this region as the research object. We explored the relationship between geological disasters such as collapse and landslides that often occur in the natural ecological environment with LUCC and meteorological and hydrological factors, using GIS spatial analysis and statistical analysis methods. The research results indicate that geological disasters mainly occur in farmland areas. The density of geological disaster points is highest within urban areas, making them the most prone to geological disasters. Geological disasters are more densely distributed in the area within 600 to 800 m from the river. There is a strong correlation between the average rainfall amount and the probability of geological disasters occurring. This study provides a scientific basis for the geological disaster risk assessment, prevention and control in this region. It has certain reference significance for the ecological environment governance, land resources planning and management in other similar regions.
