12. Proton Irradiation Effects on Dual Delta-Doped AlGaAs/InGaAs/AlGaAs Pseudomorphic High-Electron-Mobility Transistors

Abstract

In this article, we mainly studied the proton irradiation effects on novel dual delta-doping GaAs-based pseudomorphic high-electron-mobility transistors (PHEMTs). The conventional heterojunction high-electron-mobility transistors (HFETs) were selected as control. The insensitivity of Co $^{60}~\gamma $ -rays (up to 100 Mrad) indicates that displacement effects predominate in the degradation of threshold voltages ( $V_{\mathrm {TH}}$ ) and drain current ( $I_{\mathrm {DS}}$ ). Based on the incident depth of protons in device, there are two types of irradiation effects: uniform (thin target) and nonuniform (thick target). For the former, 3-, 40-, and 80-MeV protons were employed to explore the energy dependence in PHEMTs. It was found that the effect of protons on PHEMTs depends on nonionizing energy loss (NIEL), and it is possible to predict the impact of different protons on $V_{\mathrm {TH}}$ by NIEL alone. As for nonuniform irradiation, the incident range of 150-keV protons in gated and ungated regions of both PHEMTs and HFETs determines the case in which $I_{\mathrm {DS}}$ decreases, while $V_{\mathrm {TH}}$ remains constant as the fluence increases. Finally, this novel PHEMT with a higher donor concentration (provided by double delta doping) and higher mobility (InGaAs channel) was found to have a greater radiation hardness than HFETs.

20. Effect of preoperative moderate-dose statin and duration on acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery: a retrospective cohort study.

Abstract

The impact of preoperative statin use on postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) is uncertain. We aimed to examine the association of statin therapy before cardiac surgery with postoperative AKI. The retrospective cohort study consisted of 1581 patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Postoperative AKI were identified by the modified KDIGO definition. Propensity-score matching was employed to control for selection bias, and logistic regression was used to control for confounders. Subgroup and interaction analyses were performed to evaluate the robustness of the findings. The overall incidence of postoperative AKI and severe AKI were 42.19% and 12.27%, respectively. Preoperative moderate-dose statin was significantly associated with a reduced incidence of postoperative AKI (28.9% vs 43.0%, OR (95%CI): 0.54 (0.38, 0.77), p < 0.001) and severe AKI (6.9% vs 13.7%, OR (95%CI): 0.46 (0.26, 0.83), p = 0.009). The beneficial effect on postoperative AKI persisted after adjusting for major confounding factors (OR (95%CI): 0.47 (0.34, 0.66)). Decreased risk of postoperative AKI was observed in patients with preoperative statin duration of 7 ∼ 14 days (OR (95%CI): 0.41 (0.25, 0.65)) and over 14 days (OR (95%CI): 0.43 (0.28, 0.65)), but not in those with preoperative statin duration of <7 days. Similar favorable effects were noted in most subgroup patients, except for those with high-risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, previous congestive cardiac failure, arrhythmia, preoperative ACEI/ARB, aortic cross-clamping or IABP. Preoperative moderate-dose statin was significantly related to a decreased risk of postoperative AKI, especially in patients who received statins for a longer duration. Further large-scale multicenter randomized controlled trials are needed to ascertain the impact of statin dose, duration, and timing on postoperative AKI in cardiac surgery patients. Abstract

The search for viable carbon‐neutral sources of renewable energy is one of the most critical challenges in science today. The chemical community is committed to seeking efficient, inexpensive, and sustainable electrocatalysts that can exploit the energy produced by sustainable energy resources. Here, an ethanol organocatalyst, which is green and cheap, that can efficiently catalyze the oxidation of Li2S in the electrochemical reactions of Li2S cathodes is identified. This study demonstrates that a multitude of small molecular organocatalysts will offer electrochemists an elegant tool for accelerating electrochemical reactions with otherwise unattainable efficiency and precision. Abstract

The introduction of copper (Cu) element to iron-manganese-based layered cathode materials can effectively enhance their cycling stability and air tolerance. However, the low redox reactivity of Cu2+ decreases the capacity of the copper-iron-manganese layered oxide cathode material. Recently, lithium (Li) doping has been regarded as an efficient strategy to exploit high-capacity cathode materials by enabling high-covalency transition metals. Here, we report a Na1.0LixCu0.22Fe0.30Mn0.48O2 (x = 0.025, 0.05, 0.075) cathode material with increased capacity by adding Li into a Na1.0Cu0.22Fe0.30Mn0.48O2 cathode via a simple solid-phase sintering method. The doped Li element can regulate the redox reactivities of the adjacent Fe and Mn elements, leading to the promotion of the Fe redox reactivity and the suppression of Mn redox reactivity, which prevents both the Jahn–Teller effect and the structure collapse during the charge/discharge process. In conclusion, Li doping can not only improve the capacity of the cathode material but also improve its stability. When x = 0.075, the capacity of Na1Li0.075Cu0.22Fe0.30Mn0.48O2 cathode can reach 114.2 mAh g−1 with a high capacity retention of 90.2% after 300 cycles at 1 C. Abstract

The world-wide energy revolution from fossil to renewable energy, such as wind and solar energy, has made greater demand on energy storage systems, which flatten the fluctuations of those energy supplies caused by their intrinsic attributes. The scaled-up implementation of these energy storage systems in power grids requires low cost and high energy density in these systems. The lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery is one of the most promising systems that can meet the above requirements owing to its high capacity (1672 mA h g-1) and energy density, as well as the low cost of sulfur. Nevertheless, some hindrances are blocking Li-S batteries from practical application in the power grid. The longevity of Li-S batteries is unsatisfactory due to the insulating nature of sulfur, the dissolution of intermediate products, the volume expansion of the sulfur cathode, and the safety issues of Li metal. To solve the above problems, countless conductive matrices (such as carbon) have been explored to increase the sulfur utilization. The cathodes, separator, and anode have been painstakingly designed to mitigate the shuttle effect caused by dissolved intermediates, and various electrolytes have been proposed to either decrease the solubility of intermediates or build a stable solid-electrolyte-interphase (SEI) on the anode. The lithiated sulfur cathode (Li2S) has been investigated to develop a Li-ion sulfur battery with a Li-metal-free anode such as Si or graphite. Based on these concerns, we have proposed different strategies to address different issues related to Li-S batteries. Specifically, the synthesis of CoS2/Li2S aims to develop Li-metal-free Li-ion/sulfur batteries, circumventing the safety concerns related to Li metal. Defect-rich carbon nanotubes (defect-rich CNT) were synthesized to mitigate the shuttling effect and to enhance the reaction kinetics in the sulfur cathode. Abstract

The outstanding cycling performance of sodium manganese hexacyanoferrate (NaMnHCF) was obtained by applying NaPF6/KPF6mixed salt solution as an electrolyte. NaMnHCF and KMnHCF are composited at the nanoscale to form a high-quality NaMnHCF/KMnHCF composite, enabling an exceptional cycling performance with more than 90 % capacity retention after 500 cycles. The enhanced cycling performance is attributed to the high-quality NaMnHCF/KMnHCF composition and the pillar effect of KMnHCF. Furthermore, the superlattice of NaKMnHCF was also discovered after treatment in the mixed electrolyte, which may be partly responsible for the acquired stability. The crystal structure of the cathode material remains stable during cycling, and the cathode-electrolyte interface is more resistant to corrosion in the NaPF6/KPF6mixed electrolyte. Our work reports an effective strategy to achieve high-quality NaMnHCF/KMnHCF composites and articulates the mechanism of the stabilizing effect.

Abstract

© 2020 Elsevier B.V. Li–O2 batteries has been widely investigated for its ultra-high capacity as next generation batteries. Nevertheless, some problems like sluggish kinetic reaction and instability hugely impede the practical use of Li–O2 batteries. In this work, Mo2C/MoO2@RGO heterostructures was fabricated by in-situ growth of Mo2C between MoO2 and RGO during calcination and being employed as cathode to explore the synergistic effect in Li–O2 batteries. As a result, Mo2C/MoO2@RGO exhibits good specific capacity with 2365 mAh g−1, high round-trip efficiency (89% at first cycle) and improved cycling performance. Density functional theory calculations indicated that the Mo2C/MoO2@RGO heterostructures have better capability of oxygen adsorption than sole constituent (Mo2C@RGO or MoO2@RGO), which triggers the formation of film-like amorphous discharge products, leading to lower overpotential and stable performance. Our study reveals the important role of heterostructures in Li–O2 batteries system and demonstrates a promising design strategy for heterostructured catalyst.
