Abstract Background Considering that right paraduodenal hernia is a rare internal hernia with abnormal anatomy and is often encountered during an emergency, surgeons may lack knowledge about it and choose incorrect treatment. Thus, this case report is a helpful complement to the few previously reported cases of right paraduodenal hernia. Additionally, we reviewed all the reported right paraduodenal hernia cases and proposed appropriate surgical strategies according to different anatomical features. Case presentation The case involved a 33-year-old Chinese male patient who was admitted to the hospital due to abdominal pain. The patient was initially diagnosed with small bowel obstruction, and conservative treatment failed. An emergency operation was arranged, during which a diagnosis of right paraduodenal hernia was made instead. After surgery, the patient recovered well without abdominal pain for 2 years. Conclusion Although right paraduodenal hernia accounts only for a small proportion of paraduodenal hernia, its anatomical characteristics can vary considerably. We divided right paraduodenal hernia into three types, with each type requiring a different surgical strategy.

AIM: To explore the application effect of capsular tension ring(CTR)in phacoemulsification(Phaco)combined with intraocular lens(IOL)implantation for patients with high myopia, cataract and suspensory ligament relaxation.METHODS: Prospective study. A total of 80 patients(80 eyes)with high myopia, cataract and suspensory ligament relaxation who underwent Phaco combined with IOL implantation in the hospital between April 2020 and August 2021 were enrolled. According to random number table method, they were divided into CTR group(Phaco combined with CTR and IOL implantation)and control group(Phaco combined with IOL implantation), with 40 cases(40 eyes)in each group. The best corrected distance visual acuity(BCDVA), anterior capsule area, total IOL inclination and subjective visual quality before and after surgery were compared between the two groups.RESULTS: At 1, 3 and 6mo after surgery, BCDVA was improved(P

As the filling material for the new nuclear fuel transport cask, the rigid polyurethane foam plays an important role in the safe transportation of the nuclear fuel assemblies, and therefore its reliability deserves special attention. Thermal analysis and long-term ageing test are commonly used to predict the service lifetime of rigid polyurethane foams, but they cannot fully consider the influences of mechanical loads like vibration, collision, and impact etc., which is not satisfactory for the transportation application. Herein, in addition to the conventional thermal analysis and long-term ageing methods, the random vibration testing was particularly conducted on the rigid polyurethane foam that has been used in the new nuclear fuel transport cask for the nuclear power plants in China, and its service lifetime was innovatively predicted by the intrinsic property of material, the resonance frequency. The result which can be easily obtained from the acceleration data through fast Fourier transform without additional test and treatment was in the same order of magnitude with that from the conventional methods, and is more rational and convenient, deserving recommended for the rigid polyurethane foams that are used in other applications involving mechanical loads.

Abstract Cancer metastasis is the leading cause of cancer‐related death. It is a complex, inefficient, and multistep process related to poor prognosis and high mortality of patients. Increasing evidence has shown that metabolic programming is a recognized hallmarker of cancer, plays a critical role in cancer metastasis. Metabolism alterations of glucose, lipid, and amino acid provide cancer cells with energy and substances for biosynthesis, maintain biofunctions and significantly affect proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of cancer cells. Tumor microenvironment (TME) is a complex system formed by varieties of cellular and noncellular elements. Nontumor cells in TME also undergo metabolic reprogramming or respond to metabolites to promote migration and invasion of cancer cells. A comprehensive understanding of the regulatory mechanism in metastasis from the metabolic reprogramming aspect is required to develop new therapeutic strategies combatting cancer metastasis. This review illustrates the metabolic reprogramming and interaction of cancer cells and nontumor cells in the TME, and the development of treatment strategies targeting metabolism alterations.

Abstract The optimal design of transmitted waveforms to improve the performance of missile‐borne radar in suppressing interrupted sampling repeater jamming (ISRJ) is studied here. The waveform diversity property requires that the waveform group has excellent orthogonality (good auto‐ and cross‐correlation properties), which is an effective waveform optimisation design method for missile‐borne radar electronic counter‐countermeasures. The principle of orthogonal phase coding waveform against ISRJ is studied and the use of chaotic sequences is proposed to initialise the population, as well as a simulated annealing selection operator, which improves the convergence speed of the improved genetic algorithm (IGA) and enhances the global optimisation ability. The IGA improves the shortcomings of GA, that is, easily falling into a local optimum and slow search speed, and can realise a global search for longer orthogonal polyphase coding sequence sets. The simulation examples demonstrate the good jamming suppression performance of the proposed method.

BackgroundLymph node ratio (LNR) has been reported to reliably predict cancer-specific survival (CSS) in parotid gland cancer (PGC). Our study was designed to validate the significance of LNR in patients with PGC.MethodsPatients diagnosed with stage I–IV PGC were enrolled from Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results database (SEER, N = 3529), which is the training group, and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center database (SYSUCC, N = 99), the validation group. We used X-tile software to choose the optimal cutoff value of LNR; then, univariable and multivariable analyses were performed, assessing the association between LNR and CSS.ResultsThe optimal cutoff value of LNR was 0.32 by X-tile based on 3529 patients from SEER. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis revealed better CSS for patients with LNR ≤ 0.32 (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 1.612, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.286–2.019; p 0.32 in SEER. In the SYSUCC cohort, patients with LNR ≤ 0.32 also had better CSS over patients with LNR > 0.32 (p 0.32 group, but this benefit was absent in the N1 stage group.ConclusionsIn conclusion, the lymph node ratio turned out to be an independent prognostic factor for cancer-specific survival of PGC in this study. This valuable information could help clinicians to evaluate the prognosis of PGC and suggest that adequate lymph node dissection is necessary.

AIM: To investigate the effect of modified Ahmed drainage valve implantation combined conbercept in the treatment of neovascular glaucoma.METHODS: Neovascular glaucoma patients(59 cases, 60 eyes)were separated into experiment group(20 cases, 21 eyes)and control group(39 cases, 39 eyes)in our hospital from 2015 to 2018. Patients in the experiment group received Ahmed drainage valve implantation and intravitreal conbercept injection while patients in the control group were treated with ciliarybody photocoagulation. The visual acuity, intraocular pressure and iris neovessels were observed in 3mo after operation.RESULTS: There was no significantly difference in the preoperative data between the two groups and both of them can decrease intraocular pressure(PPZ=2.74,PCONCLUSION: Modified Ahmed drainage valve implantation combined with intravitreal conbercept injection can effectively decrease the intraocular pressure for a long time and make the iris neovessels vanish.

To evaluate whether prostate volume (PV) would provide additional predictive utility to the prostate health index (phi) for predicting prostate cancer (PCa) or clinically significant prostate cancer, we designed a prospective, observational multicenter study in two prostate biopsy cohorts. Cohort 1 included 595 patients from three medical centers from 2012 to 2013, and Cohort 2 included 1025 patients from four medical centers from 2013 to 2014. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC) and logistic regression models were used to evaluate the predictive performance of PV-based derivatives and models. Linear regression analysis showed that both total prostate-specific antigen (tPSA) and free PSA (fPSA) were significantly correlated with PV (all P < 0.05). [-2]proPSA (p2PSA) was significantly correlated with PV in Cohort 2 (P< 0.001) but not in Cohort 1 (P= 0.309), while no significant association was observed between phi and PV. When combining phi with PV, phi density (PHID) and another phi derivative (PHIV, calculated as phi/PV0.5) did not outperform phi for predicting PCa or clinically significant PCa in either Cohort 1 or Cohort 2. Logistic regression analysis also showed that phi and PV were independent predictors for both PCa and clinically significant PCa (all P < 0.05); however, PV did not provide additional predictive value to phi when combining these derivatives in a regression model (all models vs phi were not statistically significant, all P > 0.05). In conclusion, PV-based derivatives (both PHIV and PHID) and models incorporating PV did not improve the predictive abilities of phi for either PCa or clinically significant PCa.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of half-dose verteporfin photodynamic therapy for central serous chorioretinophathy(CSC)in patients aged above 45 years old. METHODS: Thirty-two eyes of 30 patients aged above 45 years old with central serous chorioretinophathy were included, and all the eyes received half-dose verteporfin photodynamic therapy(PDT). Best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA), central macular thickness(CMT)and subretinal fluids absorption(SRF)were measured before and after treatment(1,3 and 6mo).RESULTS: The rate of SRF absorbing completely was 44% at 1mo, 63% at 3mo and 75% at 6mo. The difference in cure rate of the three time points was statistically significant(χ2=6.621, P=0.037). All the patients were divided into two groups according to the duration, patients in Group A were treated less than 6mo, Group B were ≥6mo. The mean LogMAR BCVA in the two groups were respectively 0.6149±0.4117 and 0.8167±0.4370 before treatment and the mean CMT were 409.47±129.422μm and 395.82±153.756μm before treatment. The difference between the two groups in the LogMAR BCVA was not statistically significant(F=0.303, P=0.823), but the time difference within the subjects was statistically significant(F=32.837,PPt=2.024,P=0.063). In Group B, the differences of the LogMAR BCVA at any two time points were all statistically significant(PF=0.064,P=0.978), but the time difference within the subjects was statistically significant(F=26.447,PPPCONCLUSION: Half-dose verteporfin PDT was effective in treating CSC aged above 45 years old, it still could improve BCVA and subretinal fluids absorption.

The possible existence of stable up-down quark matter (udQM) was recently proposed, and it was shown that the properties of udQM stars are consistent with various pulsar observations. In this work we investigate the stability of udQM nuggets and found at certain size those objects are more stable than others if a large symmetry energy and a small surface tension were adopted. In such cases, a crust made of udQM nuggets exists in quark stars. A new family of white dwarfs comprised entirely of udQM nuggets and electrons were also obtained, where the maximum mass approaches to the Chandrasekhar limit.

AIM:To understand the clinic effect of intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)drugs injection in the treatment of fundus disease in the real-world study(RWS). METHODS: The clinical cases treated with anti-VEGF drugs in our department from September 2012 to June 2015 were enrolled in this study. Retrospective investigation was reviewed to the kinds of diseases, frequency, usage, efficacy, adverse reaction, and the effects on visual acuity, fundus and macular thickness which were treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF drugs injection. RESULTS: In 305 patients(340 eyes)treated with anti-VEGF drugs, 53 patients(60 eyes, 17.6%)were wet age-related macular degeneration(AMD), polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy(PCV)16 cases(18 eyes, 5.3%), diabetic macular edema(DME)120 cases(134 eyes, 39.4%), branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO)secondary macular edema 61 cases(68 eyes, 20.0%), central retinal vein occlusion(CRVO)secondary macular edema 29 cases(32 eyes, 9.4%), idiopathic choroidal neovascularization(ICNV)16 cases(18 eyes, 5.3%), high myopia with choroid neovascularization 4 cases(4 eyes, 1.2%), neovascular glaucoma 4 cases(4 eyes, 1.2%), retinal angiomatous proliferation(RAP)1 cases(1 eyes, 0.2%)and optic papillary neovascularization 1 cases(1 eyes, 0.2%). The minimum age was 16 years old, and the maximum age 90 years old. There were 247 cases(275 eyes, 80.9%)were treated with intravitreal ranibizumab injection, 58 cases(65 eyes, 19.1%)intravitreal conbercept injection. The time number of all patients accepted anti-VEGF drugs treatment was 465, with an average of 1.7 times per eye. Which, the "3 + PRN" treatment method in 98 patients(109 eyes, 32.1%), "1 + PRN" treatment in 207 patients(231 eyes, 67.9%). 69 cases(77 eyes, 22.6%)were used alone to receive anti-VEGF drugs therapy, 10 cases(11 eyes, 3.2%)combined with intravitreal triamcinolone injection(TA), 35 cases(39 eyes, 11.5%)combined with vitrectomy, 26 cases(29 eyes, 8.5%)combined with photodynamic treatment(PDT), 165 cases(184 eyes, 54.1%)combined with simple laser treatment. After anti-VEGF drug treatment, majority of patients' the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), fundus and central macular thickness(CMT)were significantly improved, compared with the pre-treatment, the difference is significant(PCONCLUSION: Intravitreal anti-VEGF drugs injection can significantly improve the visual function and ocular fundus for patients with fundus diseases, but there are still some adverse events, which should be attached great importance to medical workers.

Non-point source nitrogen loss poses a risk to sustainable aquatic ecosystems. However, non-point sources, as well as impaired river segments with high nitrogen concentrations, are difficult to monitor and regulate because of their diffusive nature, budget constraints, and resource deficiencies. For the purpose of catchment management, the Bayesian maximum entropy approach and spatial regression models have been used to explore the spatiotemporal patterns of non-point source nitrogen loss. In this study, a total of 18 sampling sites were selected along the river network in the Hujiashan Catchment. Over the time period of 2008–2012, water samples were collected 116 times at each site and analyzed for non-point source nitrogen loss. The morphometric variables and soil drainage of different land cover types were studied and considered potential factors affecting nitrogen loss. The results revealed that, compared with the approach using the Euclidean distance, the Bayesian maximum entropy approach using the river distance led to an appreciable 10.1% reduction in the estimation error, and more than 53.3% and 44.7% of the river network in the dry and wet seasons, respectively, had a probability of non-point source nitrogen impairment. The proportion of the impaired river segments exhibited an overall decreasing trend in the study catchment from 2008 to 2012, and the reduction in the wet seasons was greater than that in the dry seasons. High nitrogen concentrations were primarily found in the downstream reaches and river segments close to the residential lands. Croplands and residential lands were the dominant factors affecting non-point source nitrogen loss, and explained up to 70.7% of total nitrogen in the dry seasons and 54.7% in the wet seasons. A thorough understanding of the location of impaired river segments and the dominant factors affecting total nitrogen concentration would have considerable importance for catchment management.

The performances of the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT) risk calculator and other risk calculators for prostate cancer (PCa) prediction in Chinese populations were poorly understood. We performed this study to build risk calculators (Huashan risk calculators) based on Chinese population and validated the performance of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), PCPT risk calculator, and Huashan risk calculators in a validation cohort. We built Huashan risk calculators based on data from 1059 men who underwent initial prostate biopsy from January 2006 to December 2010 in a training cohort. Then, we validated the performance of PSA, PCPT risk calculator, and Huashan risk calculators in an observational validation study from January 2011 to December 2014. All necessary clinical information were collected before the biopsy. The results showed that Huashan risk calculators 1 and 2 outperformed the PCPT risk calculator for predicting PCa in both entire training cohort and stratified population (with PSA from 2.0 ng ml−1 to 20.0 ng m). In the validation study, Huashan risk calculator 1 still outperformed the PCPT risk calculator in the entire validation cohort (0.849 vs 0.779 in area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUC] and stratified population. A considerable reduction of unnecessary biopsies (approximately 30%) was also observed when the Huashan risk calculators were used. Thus, we believe that the Huashan risk calculators (especially Huashan risk calculator 1) may have added value for predicting PCa in Chinese population. However, these results still needed further evaluation in larger populations.

AIM:To discuss the diagnosis of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome(VKHS)and evaluate the clinical effect of different corticosteroid therapies. METHODS: Forty-five patients(90 eyes)from January 2010 to February 2014 with VKHS were enrolled in this retrospective case study. The patients were divided into two groups. Twenty-five patients(50 eyes)in observation group were treated with methylprednisolone(1.0g)for 3 days. Then the methylprednisolone was reduced to 0.5g per day in the fourth and fifth day. Twenty patients(40 eyes)in control group were treated with dexamethasone(12mg)for 5 days. Then 60mg of prednisone were given to all the 45 patients and reduced according to the patients' inflammatory, taken off 5mg every time. When the dose was reduced to 15～20mg, the treatment was sustained for 6mo at least. Then the dose was reduced again till prednisone was taken off. The total course of treatment was more than 9mo. All patients underwent B type ultrasound scan, optical coherence tomography(OCT)and fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA)before and after treatments. The changes were analyzed. RESULTS: There was no statistical significance on vision between the two groups before treatments. Vision of all patients improved after treatments, and that in observation group(0.44±0.19)were significantly better than that in control group(0.55±0.29)at the fifth day(PP>0.05). Thirty days after treatment, vision of the two groups was almost back to normal. According to OCT, 84 eyes(93%)had macular neuroepithelial detachment or serous macular detachment, and height of detachment was 1009.67±319.40 μm in observation group, 1098.13±283.45μm in control group. Five days after treatments, the height of detachment in observation group was 307.79±71.35μm, significantly lower than control group(434.13±88.67μm)(PP>0.05). And 30 days after treatments, the morphology of fovea was almost back to normal. One month after treatments, the FFA results were almost normal, expect 8 eyes had slightly leakage.CONCLUSION: Large dose of methylprednisolone in early stage can improve the VKH patients' vision and promote the subretinal effusion absorption, which has better clinic effect and less adverse reaction than dexamethasone, is worth spread.

The performance of the Sha-he wastewater reclamation plant was evaluated in this study. To remove residual nitrogen after Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic (A2O) treatment, three multistage Anoxic-Oxic (A/O) were added to investigate the nitrogen removal efficiency and its mechanism. In addition, the constituents and evolution of dissolved organic matter (DOM) during wastewater reclamation was also investigated using a method combining fluorescence spectroscopy with fluorescence regional integration (FRI). The results suggested that multistage A/O treatment can effectively improve the nitrogen removal ability under low concentrations of carbon sources. The total nitrogen (TN) exhibits significantly positive correlation with fulvic acid-like materials and humic acid-like materials. The correlation coefficient for TN and fulvic acid-like substances (R2 = 0.810, P < 0.01) removal was greater than that of humic acid-like substances (R2 = 0.636, P < 0.05). The results indicate that nitrogen removal may be achieved with the fulvic-like and humic-like substances, and the removal effects were higher by fulvic acid-like substances than humic-like substances, mostly due to that the latter were relatively more difficult to be utilized as carbon source during the nitrogen removal process. The effluent water quality of biological treatment reached the first grade A standard of "Cities sewage treatment plant pollutant discharge standard" (GB18918-2002). In addition, the effluent from the membrane bioreactor reached the "Standards of reclaimed water quality" (SL368-2006).

In western populations, prostate volume (PV) has been proven to be one of the strongest predictors of detecting prostate cancer (PCa) in biopsies. We performed this study in a biopsy cohort, to evaluate associations among the prostate volume, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and PCa detection in the Chinese population. Between the years, 2007-13, 1486 men underwent prostate biopsy at Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. The study population was divided into two groups for analysis according to total PSA (tPSA) range (4 ng ml−1 < tPSA ≤20 ng ml−1 and tPSA > 20 ng ml−1 ). PV, age, tPSA, digital rectal examination (DRE) and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) results were also included in the analysis. Although the positive biopsy rates decreased in both tPSA range groups, the downtrend was more pronounced in the 4 ng ml−1 < tPSA ≤20 ng ml−1 group; therefore, we focused on 853 men in this group with increasing PV. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, only DRE was found to be associated with PCa in four PV groups (P < 0.05) and tPSA did not show a good predictive ability when PV exceeded 50 ml (P > 0.05). Further, it may suggest that with increasing PV, the cancer detection rate decreased in men with different tPSA, DRE and TRUS nodule statuses (all P values for trends were 50 ml might be taken into consideration for the biopsy decision-making in the Chinese population.

AIM: To investigate the efficiency and security of compound anisodine injection in the treatment of juxtafoveal central serous chorioretinopathy(CSC). METHODS: Sixty patients(60 eyes)who were diagnosed of juxtafoveal CSC were assigned randomly into 2 groups: 32 cases(32 eyes, therapeutic group)were injected subcutaneously compound anisodine injection for 2mL q.d around superficial temporal arteries in the affected eyes; 28 cases(28 eyes, control group)received only traditional oral medication. Both groups received therapy for 2 to 4 courses of treatment. The main observations were the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), subjective symptom, visual field, average light sensitivity and optical coherent topography(OCT).RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the therapeutic group and the control group before treatment(P>0.05), but all the outcome measures at 1, 3mo in the treatment group were significantly improved as compared with control group(PP>0.05). No severe adverse reaction was noted except mild ones such as temporary dry mouth, dizziness and palpitation in a few cases.CONCLUSION: Compound anisodine injection has remarkable effects in the treatment of juxtafoveal CSC. It can shorten the course, improved the visual function and decreased the recurrence rate of CSC.

AIM: To observe the clinical effect of low power transpupillary thermotherapy(TTT)with retrobulbar injection of triamcinolone acetonide(TA)for central exudative chorioretinopathy(CEC).METHODS: Fourteen eyes with idiopathic choroidal neovascularization were treated with retrobulbar injection of TA and performed by low power TTT after one week. Laser parameters were as follows: spot diameter 0.8-3.0mm, low power 120-360mW, time 60 seconds. By 3 to 12 months of follow-up, visual acuity, ophthalmoscope, fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA)and optical coherence tomography(OCT)were used to observe the curative effects.RESULTS: Visual acuity were improved in 5 eyes(36%), remained stable in 8 eyes(57%)and declined in 1 eye(7%)after treatment. The macular hemorrhage and exudation were reduced significantly in 12 eyes. FFA showed that the fluorescein leakage ceased or decreased in 7 eyes, unchanged in 5 eyes, and enlarged in 2 eyes. The macular edema of 12 eyes in OCT was reduced unequally.CONCLUSION: Low power TTT combined with retrobulbar injection of TA shows good therapeutic effect on CEC.

BACKGROUND: Trichoderma brevicompactum is the Trichoderma species producing simple trichothecenes-trichodermin, a potential antifungal antibiotic and a protein synthesis inhibitor. However, the biosynthetic pathway of trichodermin in Trichoderma is not completely clarified. Therefore, transcriptome and gene expression profiling data for this species are needed as an important resource to better understand the mechanism of the trichodermin biosynthesis and provide a blueprint for further study of T. brevicompactum. RESULTS: In this study, de novo assembly of the T. brevicompactum transcriptome using the short-read sequencing technology (Illumina) was performed. In addition, two digital gene expression (DGE) libraries of T. brevicompactum under the trichodermin-producing and trichodermin-nonproducing culture conditions, respectively, were constructed to identify the differences in gene expression. A total of 23,351 unique transcripts with a mean length of 856 bp were obtained by a new Trinity de novo assembler. The variations of the gene expression under different culture conditions were also identified. The expression profiling data revealed that 3,282 unique transcripts had a significantly differential expression under the trichodermin-producing condition, as compared to the trichodermin-nonproducing condition. This study provides a large amount of transcript sequence data that will contribute to the study of the trichodermin biosynthesis in T. brevicompactum. Furthermore, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was found to be useful to confirm the differential expression of the unique transcripts. CONCLUSION: Our study provides considerable gene expression information of T. brevicompactum at the transcriptional level,which will help accelerate the research on the trichodermin biosynthesis. Additionally, we have demonstrated the feasibility of using the Illumina sequencing based DGE system for gene expression profiling, and have shed new light on functional studies of the genes involved in T. brevicompactum biosynthesis.

The reaction of 1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid with silver nitrate in the presence of perchloric acid under hydrothermal conditions yielded the title complex, [Ag(C8H6N2O2)2]ClO4, which comprises of an [Ag(C8H6N2O2)2] mononuclear cation and a perchlorate anion. The AgI ion is coordinated by two N atoms from two different neutral 1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid ligands with an N—Ag—N bond angle of 163.21 (14)°, forming an [Ag(C8H6N2O2)2] mononuclear cation. Although both ligands in the mononuclear cation are monodentate with one N atom coordinated to the metal ion, they are different: one is N3 coordinated to the Ag I ion and the N1 atom protonated, the other with the N1 coordinated to the Ag I ion and the N3 atom protonated (and thus formally a 1H-benzimidazole-6-carboxylic acid rather than a 1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid ligand). The planes of the two planar ligands are roughly perpendicular, making a dihedral angle of 84.97 (2)°. Background: Jujuboside B (JuB) is the main bioactive saponin component of Chinese anti-insomnia herbal medicine Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, which has been reported to possess varied pharmacological functions. Even though it has been traditionally used to treat inflammation- and toxicity-related diseases, the effects of JuB on acetaminophen (APAP) overdose-induced hepatotoxicity have not been determined yet. Methods: C57BL/6 J mice were pre-treated with JuB (20 or 40 mg/kg) for seven days before APAP (400 mg/kg) injection. After 24 h of APAP treatment, serum, and liver tissues were collected to evaluate the therapeutic effects. To investigate whether the Nrf2-STING signaling pathway is involved in the protective effects of JuB against APAP-induced hepatotoxicity, the mice received the DMXAA (the specific STING agonist) or ML385 (the specific Nrf2 inhibitor) during the administration of JuB, and Hematoxylin-eosin staining, Real-time PCR, immunohistochemical, and western blot were performed. Results: JuB pretreatment reversed APAP-induced CYP2E1 accumulations and alleviated APAP-induced acute liver injury. Furthermore, JuB treatment significantly inhibited oxidative stress and the pro-inflammatory cytokines, as well as alleviated hepatocyte apoptosis induced by APAP. Besides, our result also demonstrated that JuB treatment upregulated the levels of total Nrf2, facilitated its nuclear translocation, upregulated the expression of HO-1 and NQO-1, and inhibited the APAP-induced STING pathway activation. Finally, we verified that the beneficial effects of JuB were weakened by DMXAA and ML385. Conclusion: Our study suggested that JuB could ameliorate APAP-induced hepatic damage and verified a previously unrecognized mechanism by which JuB prevented APAP-induced hepatotoxicity through adjusting the Nrf2-STING pathway.

Objective: To explore the interventional therapy and clinical efficacy of extracranial ICA aneurysm. Methods: The clinical data of eight patients with extracranial ICA aneurysm treated by interventional stent implantation from December 2014 to February 2018 in the Neurosurgery Department of the Third Hospital of Mianyang were analyzed. And this research was a retrospective analysis. All patients underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and were diagnosed with extracranial carotid artery aneurysm. These patients, therefore, were treated with interventional stent implantation. Results: Interventional treatment was successfully conducted on all eight patients. In eight patients, the aneurysm cavity was not developed immediately after angiography, and in one case, the aneurysm cavity was developed with coil-assisted embolization. All the internal carotid arteries were well developed, with no complications such as intraoperative rupture, bleeding and thrombosis occur. Follow-up for three months to two years showed that the patients recovered well, the GOS score was 4 points for patients with cerebral infarction, and the rest reached five points. Follow-up CTA showed no signs of aneurysm recurrence or ICA restenosis. Conclusion: Interventional stent placement is a preferable and relatively safe method for the treatment of extracranial carotid artery aneurysm with less trauma and short operation time.
