Abstract Background Endometriosis is intricately linked to metabolic health. The Cardiometabolic Index (CMI), a novel and readily accessible indicator, is utilized to evaluate metabolic status. This study seeks to investigate the potential correlation between CMI and endometriosis. Methods Data from four consecutive survey cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 1999 and 2006 were utilized. This included adult females with self-reported diagnoses of endometriosis and complete information required for calculating the CMI. The calculation formula for CMI is Triglycerides(TG) / High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) × WHtR (WHtR = waist circumference / height). A multivariable logistic regression model was employed to investigate the linear association between CMI and endometriosis. Subgroup analyses were performed to explore potential influencing factors. Additionally, the linear relationship was validated using restricted cubic spline (RCS) curve plotting and threshold effect analysis. Results This study, based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), included a cohort of 2,224 adult women. The multivariable logistic regression analysis demonstrated that in the fully adjusted model, individuals with the highest CMI exhibited a 78% elevated likelihood of endometriosis compared to those with the lowest CMI (OR = 1.78; 95% CI, 1.02–3.11, P 0.05), except for the subgroup stratified by stroke status (P 0.67 (OR = 1.20; 95% CI, 1.05–1.37, P

Abstract Heart failure (HF) is closely linked to platelet counts and lipid levels. The platelet-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (PHR) is a novel marker for assessing cardiovascular disease. This study investigates the relationship between PHR and HF. We analyzed data from ten consecutive NHANES survey cycles (1998–2018), focusing on self-reported HF diagnoses with complete PHR information. PHR was calculated as platelet count divided by HDL-C (mmol/L). A multivariate logistic regression model was used to examine the association between PHR and HF, with subgroup analyses to identify potential influencing factors. RCS curve plotting and threshold effect analysis were employed to describe non-linear relationships. The study included 31,410 adults aged 20–85 years. Abstract Recently discovered Mn-based kagome materials, such as RMn6Sn6 (R = rare-earth element), exhibit the coexistence of topological electronic states and long-range magnetic order, offering a platform for studying quantum phenomena. However, understanding the electronic and magnetic properties of these materials remains incomplete. Here, we investigate the electronic structure and magnetic properties of GdMn6Sn6 using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism, photoemission spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations. We observe localized electronic states from spin frustration in the Mn-based kagome lattice and induced magnetic moments in the nonmagnetic element Sn experimentally, which originate from the Sn- $$p$$ p and Mn- $$d$$ d orbital hybridization. Our calculations also reveal ferromagnetic coupling within the kagome Mn-Mn layer, driven by double exchange interaction. This work provides insights into the mechanisms of magnetic interaction and magnetic tuning in the exploration of topological quantum materials.

Abstract Background The Platelet to High-Density Lipoprotein cholesterol Ratio (PHR) is a novel indicator of inflammatory response and metabolic disorders, linked to various chronic diseases. This study aims to investigate the relationship between PHR and hypertension. Methods Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), collected across seven consecutive cycles from 2005 to 2018, were analyzed. The dataset included participants’ hypertension status as reported by a doctor, their use of antihypertensive medications, and the average of three blood pressure measurements to identify hypertensive adults, along with complete information for PHR calculation. PHR was calculated based on Platelet (PLT) count and High-Density Lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) using the following formula: PHR = [PLT (1000 cells/µL) / HDL-C (mmol/L)]. A multivariable logistic regression model was employed to assess the association between PHR and hypertension, and subgroup analyses were conducted to explore potential influencing factors. Additionally, Restricted Cubic Spline (RCS) curves were applied for threshold effect analysis to describe nonlinear relationships. Results Higher PHR was associated with an increased prevalence of hypertension. Abstract Eradication of osteomyelitis caused by bacterial infections is still a major challenge. Microwave therapy has the inherent advantage of deep penetration in curing deep tissue infections. However, the antibacterial efficiency of sensitizers is limited by the weak energy of microwaves. Here, a hybrid heterojunction system (Fe3O4/CuS/Emo) is designed for curing bacterially infected osteomyelitis. As an enhanced microwave sensitizer, it shows supernormal microwave response ability. Specifically, Fe3O4 acts as a matrix to mediate magnetic loss. After CuS loading, the heterogeneous interface forms induce significant interfacial polarization, which increasing dielectric loss. On the basis of the heterojunction formed by the two semiconductors, emodin is innovatively introduced to modify it. This integration not only accelerates the movement of charge carriers but also enhances polarization loss due to the numerous functional groups present on the surface. This further optimizes the microwave thermal and catalytic response. In addition, the unique anti‐inflammatory properties of emodin confer the ability of hybrid heterojunction to regulate the immune microenvironment. In vivo studies reveal that heterojunction modified by emodin programmed elimination of bacteria and regulation of the immune microenvironment. It offers a revolutionary approach to the treatment of bacterial osteomyelitis.

Objective: The gold standard for measuring anaerobic fitness is the power cycle ergometer test, but this method is expensive and time-consuming, and it has negative effects on pre-competition performance. This study aims to utilize the strong correlation between accessible body composition indices and less accessible anaerobic power bicycle indices to establish and verify a Wingate Index Model. Methods: A cohort of 993 male (age: 22.56 ± 3.30 years) and 450 female (age: 21.47 ± 2.70 years) athletes who participated in diverse sports were enrolled and completed the high-intensity power cycle test and body composition test, and the model formula was established based on these data. Totally, 283 participants were randomly selected to verify the formula using SPSS 22.0 and GraphPad Prism 9.4.1. Results: There was no significant difference between the value derived from the confirmed formula and the measured value of the instrument among the elite athletes (p > 0.05). The probabilities that the values obtained by the formula would fall within the 95 % confidence interval were as follows: Mpower(mean power): 94.7 %, Mpower/W(mean power/weight): 96.8 %, total work: 94.7 %, Ppower(peak power): 94.7 %, Ppower/W(peak power/weight): 95.8 %, and fatigue index: 93.6 %. Conclusion: By constructing and validating multiple regression equations for the anaerobic power cycle and body composition indices, this study showed that the probabilities of the values obtained from the equations falling within the 95 % confidence interval were 94.7 % for Mpower, 96.8 % for Mpower/W, 94.7 % for total work, 94.7 % for Ppower, 95.8 % for Ppower/W, and 93.6 % for fatigue index. Therefore, these equations may have some practical value in predicting the elite athlete population.

Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of music on heart rate recovery (HRR) and heart rate variability (HRV) after intense exertion. Methods Five hundred male students enrolled at Yongin University, Korea, underwent a cycling test to assess aerobic capacity; 180 students with equal scores were selected for a music intervention, which was conducted after vigorous exercise. The 180 participants were randomized into three music groups and a control group; the participants in each music group listened to music at three different tempos: slow (lento) (n = 45), moderate (moderato) (n = 45), and fast (allegretto) (n = 45). The control group did not listen to music (n = 45). After the test, data on cardiac recovery and HRV were gathered and modeled. Results The results revealed no significant variation in HRR and HRV indexes between the four cohorts (p > .05), and no significant differences were observed in the anaerobic power cycling indexes during strenuous exercise (p > .05). When a malfunction occurs in a marine main engine system, the impact of the anomaly will propagate through the system, affecting the performance of all relevant components in the system. The phenomenon of fault propagation in the system caused by induced factors can interfere with fault localization, making the latter a difficult task to solve. This paper aims at showing how the "characteristic curves method" is able to properly locate malfunctions also when more malfunctions appear simultaneously. To this end, starting from the working principle of each component of a real marine diesel engine system, comprehensive and reasonable thermal performance parameters are chosen to describe their characteristic curves and include them in a one-dimensional thermodynamic model. In particular, the model of a low-speed two stroke MAN 6S50 MC-C8.1 diesel engine is built using the AVL Boost software and obtaining errors lower than 5% between simulated values and test bench data. The behavior of the engine is simulated considering eight multi-fault concomitant phenomena. On this basis, the fault diagnosis method proposed in this paper is verified. The results show that this diagnosis method can effectively isolate the fault propagation phenomenon in the system and quantify the additional irreversibility caused by the Induced factors. The fault diagnosis index proposed in this paper can quickly locate the abnormal components.

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is an effective treatment for patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC). In this study, real-time electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings were obtained from patients with DOC during HBO therapy. EEG microstate indicators including mean microstate duration (MMD), ratio of total time covered (RTT), global explained variance (GEV), transition probability, mean occurrence, and mean global field power (GFP) were compared before and during HBO therapy. Scientific documents contain a large number of mathematical expressions and texts containing mathematical semantics. Simply using mathematical expressions or text to retrieve scientific documents can hardly meet retrieval needs. The real difficulty in retrieving scientific documents is to effectively integrate mathematical expressions and related textual features. Therefore, this study proposes a multi-attribute scientific documents retrieval and ranking model based on GBDT (gradient boosting decision tree) and LR (logistic regression) by integrating the expressions and text contained in scientific documents. First, the similarities of the five attributes are calculated, including mathematical expression symbols, mathematical expression sub-forms, mathematical expression context, scientific document keywords and the frequency of mathematical expressions. Next, the GBDT model is used to discretize and reorganize the five attributes. Finally, the reorganized features are input into the LR model, and the final retrieval and ranking results of scientific documents are obtained. The experiment in this study was carried out on the NTCIR dataset. The average value of the final MAP@20 of the scientific document recall was 81.92%. The average value of the scientific document ranking nDCG@20 was 86.05%.

Background: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a major rescue measure for cardiac arrest (CA) patients, and chest compression is the key to CPR. The Thumper device was designed to facilitate manual compression during CPR. However, current randomized controlled trials (RCTs) provide controversial findings on the efficacy of the Thumper device. Objectives: This meta-analysis aimed to compare the clinical benefits of using the Thumper device with manual chest compressions during the provision of CPR for patients in CA. Methods: Relevant studies were retrieved from various databases, including Ovid, PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane, and CNKI, and by manually searching the reference lists of research and review articles. All RCTs published in either English or Chinese until June 31, 2020, were included in the meta-analysis. The odds ratios (ORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), survival rate (SR), and the incidence of rib fractures (RFs) were compared between the manual and Thumper chest compressions. Results: A total of 2164 records were identified, of which 16 were RCTs with an overall risk of bias ranging from low to medium classification. Following CPR, the odds ratios for ROSC, SR, and RF were significantly better for the Thumper chest compression with ORs of 2.56 (95% CI 2.11–3.11, I2 = 0%), 4.06 (95% CI 2.77–5.93, I2 = 0%), and 0.24 (95% CI 0.14–0.41, I2 = 0%), respectively. Conclusions: The Thumper compression devices may improve patient outcome, when used at inhospital cardiac arrest. This review suggests a potential role for mechanical chest compression devices for in-hospital cardiac arrest, but there is an urgent need for high-quality research, particularly adequately powered randomised trials, to further examine this role.

Abstract Purpose The present study attempted to explore the effects of different tempos of piano music on heart rate and autonomous nervous system during the recovery period after high‐intensity exercise. In addition, the study analyzed the influence of different tempos on the recovery period of athletes to devise methods for accelerating fatigue recovery through piano music. Method A total of 57 college students majoring in physical education were selected as experimental subjects and were divided into three groups, namely Lento group (n = 20), Moderato group (n = 20), and Allegretto group (n = 20; only 17 students completed the experiment). Results Under the same high‐intensity exercise regimen, the three groups did not differ significantly in the body composition, high‐intensity exercise ability, and time‐domain variation indices, namely heart rate (HR), heart rate variability index parameters (p > .05). Abstract While biochar soil amendment has been widely proposed as a soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration strategy to mitigate detrimental climate changes in global agriculture, the SOC sequestration was still not clearly understood for the different effects of fresh and aged biochar on SOC mineralization. In the present study of a two‐factorial experiment, topsoil samples from a rice paddy were laboratory‐incubated with and without fresh or aged biochar pyrolyzed of wheat residue and with and without crop residue‐derived dissolved organic matter (CRM) for monitoring soil organic matter decomposition under controlled conditions. The six treatments included soil with no biochar, with fresh biochar and with aged biochar treated with CRM, respectively. For fresh biochar treatment, the topsoil of a same rice paddy was amended with wheat biochar directly from a pyrolysis wheat straw, the soil with aged biochar was collected from the same soil 6 years following a single amendment of same biochar. Total CO2 emission from the soil was monitored over a 64 day time span of laboratory incubation, while microbial biomass carbon and phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) were determined at the end of incubation period. Without CRM, total organic carbon mineralization was significantly decreased by 38.8% with aged biochar but increased by 28.9% with fresh biochar, compared to no biochar. With CRM, however, the significantly highest net carbon mineralization occurred in the soil without biochar compared to the biochar‐amended soil. Compared to aged biochar, fresh biochar addition significantly increased the total PLFA concentration by 20.3%–33.8% and altered the microbial community structure by increasing 17:1ω8c (Gram‐negative bacteria) and i17:0 (Gram‐positive bacteria) mole percentages and by decreasing the ratio of fungi/bacteria. Furthermore, biochar amendment significantly lowered the metabolic quotient of SOC decomposition, thereby becoming greater with aged biochar than with fresh biochar. The finding here suggests that biochar amendment could improve carbon utilization efficiency by soil microbial community and SOC sequestration potential in paddy soil can be enhanced by the presence of biochar in soil over the long run.

In this work, we propose the development of an efficient, economical, automated, and sustainable method for separating bioproducts from culture medium via the integration of a sucrose-secreting cyanobacteria production process and pressure-driven membrane filtration technology. Firstly, we constructed sucrose-secreting cyanobacteria with a sucrose yield of 600–700 mg/L sucrose after 7 days of salt stress, and the produced sucrose could be fully separated from the cyanobacteria cultures through an efficient and automated membrane filtration process. To determine whether this new method is also economical and sustainable, the relationship between membrane species, operating pressure, and the growth status of four cyanobacterial species was systematically investigated. The results revealed that all four cyanobacterial species could continue to grow after UF filtration. The field emission scanning electron microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy results indicate that the cyanobacteria did not cause severe destruction to the membrane surface structure. The good cell viability and intact membrane surface observed after filtration indicated that this innovative cyanobacteria–membrane system is economical and sustainable. This work pioneered the use of membrane separation to achieve the in situ separation of cyanobacterial culture and target products, laying the foundation for the industrialization of cyanobacterial bioproducts.

Bacterial infections are closely in correlation with chronic wounds, and overcoming these problems is still challenging. Herein, a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel incorporated with reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/MoS2/Ag3PO4 composites is fabricated for highly efficient sterilization during wound healing under light irradiation. RGO/MoS2/Ag3PO4 composite is first prepared by a two-step process containing hydrazine reduction and in-situ deposition, then the hybrid hydrogel is prepared using a freeze-thaw cycle method. After doping with RGO/MoS2/Ag3PO4 composite, the hydrogel shows better mechanical property and swelling ratio. The hybrid hydrogel also exhibits excellent antibacterial properties against both Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) under co-irradiation of 660 nm visible light (VL) and 808 nm near-infrared (NIR) light within 10 min because of the synergistic effects rendered by the photodynamic and photothermal antibacterial treatments. The introduction of RGO/MoS2/Ag3PO4 composite has no appreciable influence on the cell viability and cell morphology. Importantly, the hybrid hydrogel effectively reduces the bacterial infection-related inflammation during wound healing. Thus, this RGO/MoS2/Ag3PO4-incorporated hydrogel has great potential in antibacterial wound healing dressing. Keywords: RGO/MoS2/Ag3PO4, PVA hydrogel, Phototherapy, Wound healing

The existence of organic salts in hypersaline wastewater enlarges the difficulty of wastewater treatment. In this study, a real hypersaline wastewater containing both organic and inorganic salts from the bifenthrin alcohol production processes was firstly neutralized to convert and release the organic salt to organic compound and inorganic salt, and then adsorbed by macroporous resins. The optimal operating conditions and adsorption mechanisms were investigated and analyzed through the wastewater treatment. The experimental results show that after the wastewater is neutralized with the naturally accompanied evaporation of resulted organic compound, removals of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and ammonia nitrogen (AN) can reach up to 22.7% and 36%, respectively. Thereafter the wastewater was adsorbed by macroporous resins, the highest total COD removal can only reach up to 65.9% for the single resin adsorption case, which is not enough for the inorganic salt recovery with a high purity. Whereas the removal of organic matter can be remarkably promoted by the sequentially coupled macroporous resin adsorption case. The highest total COD and AN removals can reach up to 93% and 100%, respectively, when the neutralized wastewater is adsorbed firstly by resin NKA-II and then by resin XAD-4. The adsorption isotherms of sequentially coupled resins of NKA-II and XAD-4 are both better fitted by Freundlich's model and the adsorption processes can be well fitted by pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
