Urbanization and population growth have profoundly impacted the environment of historic and cultural blocks, resulting in a lack of public buildings and spaces for internal adjustment, fostering pronounced homogeneity. This study focuses on completely abandoned areas within historical streets, integrating space syntax analysis with semantic analysis to explore reshaping regional public buildings. Unlike previous studies centered around restoring old objects, the abandoned disconnected areas require a novel regional public architecture design framework through the semantic transformation of archival photographs, historical plans, and local culture. Taking Huishan Ancient Town in Wuxi as a case study, this research comprehends the abandoned disconnection area through a literature review and examination of archival data. By using spatial syntax analysis to combine the overall pedestrian flow space with the depth of ancient historical plans, entrances are set according to the pedestrian flow, preserving unique spatial characteristics and transforming the abandoned land into new public building spaces with distinct regional and contiguous features. Through semantic translation rooted in local culture, classical elements were extracted from intangible cultural heritage and applied to the ancient town’s architectural facades, navigation systems, and structures, thereby mitigating homogenization tendencies in both spatial and cultural elements.

Abstract Background Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) is a fumaric acid ester that exhibits immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the function of DMF in autoimmune uveitis (AU) is incompletely understood, and studies comprehensively exploring the impact of DMF on immune cells are still lacking. Methods To explore the function of DMF in uveitis and its underlying mechanisms, we conducted single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) on the cervical draining lymph node (CDLN) cells of normal, experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU), and DMF-treated EAU mice. Additionally, we integrated scRNA-seq data of the retina and CDLNs to identify the potential impact of DMF on ocular immune cell infiltration. Flow cytometry was conducted to verify the potential target molecules of DMF. Results Our study showed that DMF treatment effectively ameliorated EAU symptoms. The proportional and transcriptional alterations in each immune cell type during EAU were reversed by DMF treatment. Bioinformatics analysis in our study indicated that the enhanced expression of Pim1 and Cxcr4 in EAU was reversed by DMF treatment. Further experiments demonstrated that DMF restored the balance between effector T (Teff) /regulatory T (Treg) cells through inhibiting the pathway of PIM1-protein kinase B (AKT)-Forkhead box O1 (FOXO1). By incorporating the scRNA-seq data of the retina from EAU mice into analysis, our study identified that T cells highly expressing Pim1 and Cxcr4 were enriched in the retina. DMF repressed the ocular infiltration of Teff cells, and this effect might depend on its inhibition of PIM1 and CXCR4 expression. Additionally, our study indicated that DMF might reduce the proportion of plasma cells by inhibiting PIM1 expression in B cells. Conclusions DMF effectively attenuated EAU symptoms. During EAU, DMF reversed the Teff/Treg cell imbalance and suppressed the ocular infiltration of Teff cells by inhibiting PIM1 and CXCR4 expression. Thus, DMF may act as a new drug option for the treatment of AU.

ABSTRACTBacterial cellulose is a natural polymer, usually produced through synthetic (chemically defined) or natural media. However, the current methods of bacterial cellulose production are not ideal because of their low productivity and large number of byproducts. In order to improve the yield of bacterial cellulose, the influence of medium composition, culture time, culture temperature and culture pH on the production of bacterial cellulose by Acetobacter xylinum ATCC 23,767 was studied by single factor method. The optimal medium composition for Acetobacter xylinum can be analyzed by Thermal field emission scanning electron microscopy (TF-SEM) as glucose (20 g/L), yeast extract (5 g/L), peptone (5 g/L), citric acid (2 g/L). Using the logarithmic calculation method, we can determine that the optimal culture conditions are controlled by initial pH of the culture medium of 6 and constant static culture at 28°C for 9 days. Using TF-SEM, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and water contact angle test, the best post-treatment solution can be selected as sodium hydroxide (1%). The results showed that the yield of bacterial cellulose could reach up to 8.5 g/L under the above conditions, and the obtained product exhibited a dense three-dimensional network structure.

Background: The release of ChatGPT for general use in 2023 by OpenAI has significantly expanded the possible applications of generative artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector, particularly in terms of information retrieval by patients, medical and nursing students, and healthcare personnel. Objective: To compare the performance of ChatGPT-3.5 and ChatGPT-4.0 to clinical nurses on answering questions about tracheostomy care, as well as to determine whether using different prompts to pre-define the scope of the ChatGPT affects the accuracy of their responses. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: The data collected from the ChatGPT was collected using the ChatGPT-3.5 and 4.0 using access provided by the University of Hong Kong. The data from the clinical nurses working in mainland China was collected using the Qualtrics survey program. Participants: No participants were needed for collecting the ChatGPT responses. A total of 272 clinical nurses, with 98.5 % of them working in tertiary care hospitals in mainland China, were recruited using a snowball sampling approach. Method: We used 43 tracheostomy care-related questions in a multiple-choice format to evaluate the performance of ChatGPT-3.5, ChatGPT-4.0, and clinical nurses. ChatGPT-3.5 and GPT-4.0 were both queried three times with the same questions by different prompts: no prompt, patient-friendly prompt, and act-as-nurse prompt. All responses were independently graded by two qualified otorhinolaryngology nurses on a 3-point accuracy scale (correct, partially correct, and incorrect). The Chi-squared test and Fisher exact test with post-hoc Bonferroni adjustment were used to assess the differences in performance between the three groups, as well as the differences in accuracy between different prompts. Results: ChatGPT-4.0 showed significantly higher accuracy, with 64.3 % of responses rated as ‘correct’, compared to 60.5 % in ChatGPT-3.5 and 36.7 % in clinical nurses (X 2 = 74.192, p < .001). Except for the ‘care for the tracheostomy stoma and surrounding skin’ domain (X2 = 6.227, p = .156), scores from ChatGPT-3.5 and -4.0 were significantly better than nurses’ on domains related to airway humidification, cuff management, tracheostomy tube care, suction techniques, and management of complications. Overall, ChatGPT-4.0 consistently performed well in all domains, achieving over 50 % accuracy in each domain. Alterations to the prompt had no impact on the performance of ChatGPT-3.5 or -4.0. Conclusion: ChatGPT may serve as a complementary medical information tool for patients and physicians to improve knowledge in tracheostomy care. Tweetable abstract: ChatGPT-4.0 can answer tracheostomy care questions better than most clinical nurses. There is no reason nurses should not be using it.

Study region: The Laohahe basin, north of China Study focus: In a changing environment, some river’s hydrological regimes have significantly changed and may threatened river ecosystem. Therefore, it is urgent to improve our understanding for the driving mechanism of the evolution of the hydrological regimes. In this study, a comprehensive comparison was carried out to assess the application of the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and the Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) model in river ecohydrological regimes alteration attribution. Firstly, the ecohydrological indicators changes were evaluated, including streamflow, ecosurplus, ecodeficit, and hydrological health. Then, the VIC and LSTM models were applied to quantify the climatic and anthropic effects on river ecohydrological indicators, respectively. Finally, the attribution results were compared. New hydrological insights: The research results revealed that (1) the streamflow decreased since 1980 and dramatically decreased after 2000. The ecohydrological indicators also changed significantly (α < 0.05). (2) The alterations were mainly driven by human activities, contributed to more than 80 %. (3) The LSTM and VIC showed little performance difference in quantitative attribution at the monthly and yearly scale, while the LSTM performed a little bad in streamflow simulation at the daily scale. The convenient feature and better simulation capabilities of LSTM provides a new choice for the attribution of ecohydrological regimes evolution, providing a better service in managing local water resources and safeguarding river ecosystems.

Deferoxamine, an iron chelator used to treat diseases caused by excess iron, has had a Food and Drug Administration-approved status for many years. A large number of studies have confirmed that deferoxamine can reduce inflammatory response and promote angiogenesis. Blood vessels play a crucial role in sustaining vital life by facilitating the delivery of immune cells, oxygen, and nutrients, as well as eliminating waste products generated during cellular metabolism. Dysfunction in blood vessels may contribute significantly to the development of life-threatening diseases. Anti-angiogenesis therapy and pro-angiogenesis/angiogenesis strategies have been frequently recommended for various diseases. Herein, we describe the mechanism by which deferoxamine promotes angiogenesis and summarize its application in chronic wounds, bone repair, and diseases of the respiratory system. Furthermore, we discuss the drug delivery system of deferoxamine for treating various diseases, providing constructive ideas and inspiration for the development of new treatment strategies.

Haim-Munk syndrome is an extremely rare autosomal recessive genetic disease, characterized by palmoplantar hyperkeratosis, severe early-onset periodontitis, arachnodactyly, acro-osteolysis, pes planus foot and nail atrophic deformation. Studies have shown that the disease is often caused by parental consanguinity and is associated with homozygous mutations in the Cathepsin C (CTSC) gene. At present, there are few related articles, most of which are case reports. Few studies have been conducted on the etiology and pathogenesis thereof. Patients are often confronted with the problems of missed diagnosis, misdiagnosis and poor therapeutic efficacy. Based on the current research status at home and abroad, this paper reviews the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, histopathology and immunohistochemistry, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of HMS, in order to provide reference for the clinical diagnosis and the treatment.

The extraction of indole from wash oil is of economic value and practical significance. In this study, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are investigated to extract indole from wash oil. Initially, density functional theory calculations were used to explore the association of indole with aromatic compounds in wash oil, and the feasibility of indole extraction with a tetraethylammonium chloride/p-toluenesulfonic acid (TEAC/2TsOH) DES. Then, the influence of the temperature, stirring time, DESs dose, initial indole concentration, and amount of water added were investigated, followed by discussions on the comparison with other extractants and the performance of extracting of indole from real wash oil. The results show that indole associates with aromatic compounds in wash oil through π−π interactions, but that a large electrostatic interaction energy of −52.8 kJ/mol between indole and the DESs is the main driving force for the extraction process. Under optimal conditions, TEAC/2TsOH extracts more than 63.5 ± 3% of indole from wash oil, and its extraction capacity is superior to other extractants.

BackgroundIn response to the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, a convenient, rapid, and sensitive diagnostic method for detecting COVID-19 is crucial for patient control and timely treatment. ObjectiveThis study aimed to validate the detection of SARS-CoV-2 with the Pluslife SARS-CoV-2 rapid test kit developed based on a novel thermostatic amplification technique called RNase hybridization-assisted amplification. MethodsFrom November 25 to December 8, 2022, patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, close contacts, and health care workers at high risk of exposure were recruited from 3 hospitals and 1 university. Respiratory specimens were collected for testing with the Pluslife SARS-CoV-2 rapid test kit and compared with reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and a commercial antigen assay kit. Samples from 1447 cases were obtained from 3 “ready-to-test” scenarios in which samples were collected on site and tested immediately, and samples from 503 cases were obtained from a “freeze-thaw test” scenario in which samples were collected, frozen, and thawed for testing. ResultsPluslife SARS-CoV-2 rapid testing of samples from the “ready-to-test” scenario was found to be accurate (overall sensitivity and specificity of 98.3% and 99.3%, respectively) and diagnostically useful (positive and negative likelihood ratios of 145.45 and 0.02, respectively). Pluslife SARS-CoV-2 rapid testing of samples from the “freeze-thaw test” scenario was also found to be accurate (overall sensitivity and specificity of 71.2% and 98.6%, respectively) and diagnostically useful (positive and negative likelihood ratios of 51.01 and 0.67, respectively). Our findings demonstrated that the time efficiency and accuracy of the results in a “ready-to-test” scenario were better. The time required from sample preparation to the seeing the result of the Pluslife SARS-CoV-2 rapid test was 10 to 38 minutes, which was substantially shorter than that of RT-qPCR (at least 90 minutes). In addition, the diagnostic efficacy of the Pluslife SARS-CoV-2 rapid test was better than that of a commercial antigen assay kit. ConclusionsThe developed RNase hybridization-assisted amplification assay provided rapid, sensitive, and convenient detection of SARS-CoV-2 infection and may be useful for enhanced detection of COVID-19 in homes, high-risk industries, and hospitals.

With the continuous development of digital technology, the widespread use of virtual spokespersons to promote city images is becoming increasingly prevalent. This study responds to this trend by employing a factor analysis and entropy weight methodology to explore the different dimensions and priorities in shaping the image of virtual city spokespersons in China. The aim is to offer insights into the design strategies and directions for shaping the image of virtual city spokespersons. For the research, we first conducted a literature review and semi-structured interviews to investigate the requirements of users in mainland China and Hong Kong regarding the image shaping of virtual city spokespersons. Building upon this groundwork, a questionnaire was designed and distributed, and it successfully gathered 512 valid responses. Subsequently, a factor analysis was utilized to identify eight key dimensions in shaping the images of Chinese virtual city spokespersons: “Design elements”, “Anthropomorphism”, “Evolutionary”, “Emotionalization”, “Narrativity”, “Culturalism”, “Interactivity”, and “Reliability”. Then, the entropy weighting method was applied to analyze the weights of each indicator within these dimensions. The results revealed that “Design elements” have the highest priority in shaping the image of virtual city spokespersons, followed by “Anthropomorphism”, “Emotionalization”, “Evolutionary”, “Culturalism”, “Narrativity”, “Reliability”, and “Interactivity”. Based on these findings, a series of design optimization strategies are proposed, including but not limited to shaping visually appealing images aligned with user perceptions, establishing emotional connections with users, and meeting the functional experience needs of users. These strategies not only contribute to the image shaping of virtual city spokespersons, but also provide vital guidance for innovative directions in promoting the publicity and marketing of Chinese cities.

The [Fe, Al]-FER zeolites, which are prepared from the interzeolite conversion method (from MWW to FER topology) with high Al and Fe content (Si/Al of 8–18 and Si/Fe of 11–13), exhibit excellent catalytic performances and hydrothermal tolerance for NH3-SCR reaction. The interzeolite conversion process can be tuned by optimizing the zeolite synthesis conditions such as synthesis gel composition, crystallization time, crystallization temperature, and adding MWW seeds. The work can provide a new strategy to synthesize high Al and Fe content zeolite with high hydrothermal stability for NOx removal.

Previous studies have associated broadband with innovation, but most of them have focused on broadband access or broadband penetration rate rather than broadband speed. However, with the increase in the global broadband penetration rate, network speed is becoming a more important aspect of broadband development. Using a fixed effect model based on panel data from 274 cities in China from 2016 to 2018, we explore the impact of broadband speed on innovation and further validate the relationship by instrumental variable estimation and a series of robustness tests. The main findings are as follows: First, broadband speed significantly promotes patenting, and this effect is greater than the increase in broadband penetration rate. Second, the impact of broadband speed on promoting innovation is more substantial in cities with higher Internet penetration, GDP per capita, science and technology investment, and foreign direct investment. Third, broadband speed could promote innovation by facilitating patenting cooperation among firms. Fourth, we find no evidence of a diminishing marginal effect of broadband speed in this setting. This study has significant practical implications for emerging countries to encourage innovation by increasing broadband speed.

Pterostilbene has been found to be an active scaffold with anti-breast cancer (BC) action. In this study, fourteen pterostilbene-tethered analogues (2A–2N) were prepared and screened in vitro against MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells. Meanwhile, their structures were characterized using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and HRMS (ESI) spectroscopy techniques. Among them, analogue 2L displayed the most potent anti-proliferation effect on MDA-MB-231 (IC50 = 10.39 μM) and MCF-7 cells (IC50 = 11.73 μM). Furthermore, the meaningful structure–activity relationships suggested that the introduction of a saturated six-membered nitrogen heterocyclic ring into the side chain favored anti-BC capacity. Biological observations indicated that 2L could cause the typical morphological changes in apoptosis, namely an increase in reactive oxygen species level and a loss of mitochondrial membrane potential in BC cells. Importantly, 2L could induce mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis by regulating the expression of caspase-related proteins. Consistent with the results of our in vitro study, 2L apparently inhibited tumor growth in MDA-MB-231 xenograft mice without obvious toxicity. These findings revealed that 2L is expected to be a promising anti-BC lead compound that merits further investigations.

The current centrifugal concentrators do not continuously concentrate heavy minerals of large mass weight—for example, in the processing of iron oxides. A cyclone centrifugal separator is a new type of beneficiation equipment that has been developed on the basis of the principles of centrifugal separation and hydrocyclones. In this study, a cyclone centrifugal separator was used for the beneficiation of a hematite–quartz mixture, and the separation effect under different operating conditions was analyzed. The results showed that various factors, such as the feeding concentration, the feeding pressure, and the number of fluidization holes in the separation cone, had a significant influence on the separation performance of the cyclone centrifugal separator. The single-factor separation test results showed that the appropriate operating conditions were a feeding concentration of 10%, a feeding pressure of 120 kPa, a 40-hole separation cone, a settling port pressure of 70 kPa, and an overflow port pressure of 50 kPa. The results of the open circuit separation test that was designed on the basis of the single-factor experiment showed that the concentrate grade of Fe in the hematite–quartz mixture, with 44.12% Fe, was 54.42% after beneficiation, indicating better beneficiation separation effects. This study provides a new approach for the beneficiation of a large number of difficult-to-select hematite ores in China, and can provide a reference for the further expansion and application of the cyclone centrifugal separator in the field of mineral processing.

Developing facile methods for the synthesis of active and stable electrocatalysts is vitally important to realize overall water splitting. Here, we demonstrate a practical method to obtain FeNiOOH nanosheets on nickel foam (NF) as bifunctional electrocatalyst by growing a FeCo Prussian blue analog with further in situ oxidation under ambient conditions. The binder-free, self-standing FeNiOOH/NF electrode with hierarchical nanostructures requires low overpotentials of 260 mV and 240 mV at a current density of 50 mA cm−2 for oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction, respectively, in 1.0 M KOH solution. Therefore, an alkaline water electrolyzer constructed by bifunctional FeNiOOH/NF electrode as both anode and cathode delivers 50 mA cm−2 under a cell voltage of 1.74 V with remarkable stability, which outperforms the IrO2-Pt/C-based electrolyzer. The excellent performance could be ascribed to the superior FeNiOOH intrinsic activity and the hierarchical structure. This work provides a cost-efficient surface engineering method to obtain binder-free, self-standing bifunctional electrocatalyst on commercial NF, which could be further extended to other energy and environment applications.

Mycoplasma hominis, which is difficult to culture and identify by ordinary methods, is one of the smallest pathogens in the human genitourinary tract causing urogenital infections. A CRISPR-Cas12a-based detection system might provide a novel application for M. hominis nucleic acid detection in molecular diagnostics. A plasmid containing the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene of M. hominis (ATCC_27545) as the positive control was constructed by homologous recombination. The active Cas12a protein was purified by affinity chromatography. The primers for recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA), the CRISPR RNA (crRNA), and the ratio of Cas12a to crRNA were further optimized. Finally, the sensitivity, specificity, and clinical effectiveness of the Cas12a detection system were confirmed. We successfully constructed and optimized a novel nucleic acid detection system for M. hominis based on RPA-CRISPR-Cas12a, and the whole process takes only 1 h. The limit of detection for the gap gene of M. hominis was 3 copies/μl and no cross-reactivity with other urogenital pathogens appeared. In the evaluation of 111 clinical samples, the sensitivity and specificity were both 1.000 and the area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic was 1.000 (p < 0.001), indicating that the RPA-Cas12a-fluorescent assay was fully comparable to the traditional culture method. Finally, the RPA-Cas12a detection system can also be combined with lateral flow strips (LFS) to achieve visual detection. We successfully developed a low-cost and rapid detection method of M. hominis based on RPA-Cas12a technology. This method realized by fluorescence value readout and visual detection by LFS could be applied in population screening and resource-limited conditions.

The parapoxvirus Orf virus (ORFV) has long been recognized as one of the valuable vectors in researches of oncolytic virus. In order to develop a potential therapeutic strategy for breast cancer based on the oncolytic virotherapy via ORFV, firstly we explore the oncolytic effects of ORFV. Our research showed that ORFV exerts anti-tumor effects in vitro by inducing breast cancer cell G2/M phase arrest and cell apoptosis. In vivo experiments were carried out, in which we treated 4T1 tumor-bearing BALB/C mice via intratumoral injection of ORFV. ORFV can exert anti-tumor activity by regulating tumor microenvironment (TME) and inducing a host immune response plus directly oncolytic effect. The CRISPR-Cas9 knockout library targeting 507 kinases was used to screen out PAK4, which is beneficial to the anti-tumor effect of ORFV on breast cancer cells. PF-3758309 is a potent PAK4-targeted inhibitor. Co-using of ORFV and PF-3758309 as a combination treatment produces its anti-tumor effects through inhibition of cell viability, induction of apoptosis and suppression of cell migration and invasion in vitro. The results of in vivo experiments showed that the tumor growth of mice in the combination treatment group was significantly inhibited, which proved that the combination treatment exerts an effective anti-tumor effect in vivo. In summary, we have clarified the oncolytic effect of ORFV on breast cancer, and found that the combination of ORFV and PAK4 inhibitor can effectively improve the oncolytic effect of ORFV. We hope our research could provide a new idea for the development of new treatment strategies for breast cancer.

Responsive dual-structured emulsions and gel emulsions have attracted more and more attention due to their complex microstructures, on-demand responsive properties, and controlled release of active cargoes. In this work, the effect of monoglyceride (MG)-based oil phase structuring on the formation and stability, structural properties, and thermoresponsive and cargo release behavior of gel emulsions stabilized by glycyrrhizic acid (GA) nanofibrils were investigated. Owing to the formation of GA fibrillar networks in the aqueous phase and MG crystalline networks in the oil phase, a stable dual-structured gel emulsion can be successfully developed. The microstructure of the dual-structured gel emulsions largely depended on the concentration of MG in the oil phase. At low MG concentrations (1–2 wt%), the larger formed and lamellar MG crystals may pierce the interfacial fibrillar film, inducing the formation of partially coalesced droplets. In contrast, at high MG concentrations (4 wt% or above), the smaller MG crystals with enhanced interfacial activity can lead to the formation of a bilayer shell of GA nanofibrils and MG crystals, thus efficiently inhibiting the interfacial film damage and forming a jamming structure with homogeneously distributed small droplets. Compared to pure GA nanofibril gel emulsions, the GA−MG dual-structured gel emulsions showed significantly improved mechanical performance as well as good thermoresponsive behavior. Moreover, these stable GA−MG gel emulsions can be used as food-grade delivery vehicles for encapsulating and protecting hydrophobic and hydrophilic bioactive cargoes. They also have great potential as novel and efficient aroma delivery systems showing highly controlled volatile release. The dual-structured emulsion strategy is expected to broaden the applications of natural saponin GA-based gel emulsions in the food, pharmaceutical, and personal care industries.

Pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP) is a rare benign or low-grade malignant tumor, but it has the potential to present with multiple lesions, lymph node metastasis, extra-pulmonary metastasis, recurrence and even cause death. Herein, a case of PSP that was huge, presented with multiple lesions and had lymph node as well as extrapulmonary metastases (liver, abdominal cavity, bones) is reported for the first time. This patient was also the first one to die of respiratory and circulatory failure caused by the PSP tumor and its metastases which compressed the mediastinal tissue.

With the consumption of fossil fuels, the level of CO2 in the atmosphere is growing rapidly, which leads to global warming. Hence, the chemical conversion of CO2 into high value-added products is one of the most important approaches to reducing CO2 emissions. Due to being simple, inexpensive and environmentally friendly, the direct synthesis of cyclic carbonates from olefins and CO2 is a promising project for industrial application. In this review, we discuss the design of the homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic system for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from the reaction of olefins and CO2. Usually, the catalyst contains the epoxidation active site and the cycloaddition active site, which could achieve the oxidation of oleifins and the CO2-insert, respectively. This review will provide a comprehensive overview of the direct synthesis of cyclic carbonates from olefins and CO2 catalyzed by homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts. The focus mainly lies on the rational fabrication of multifunctional catalysts, and provides a new perspective for the design of catalysts.

The NH3-SCR activities and hydrothermal stabilities of five xCu/MCM-22 zeolites with different Cu loadings (x = 2–10 wt%) prepared by incipient wetness impregnation method were systematically investigated. The physicochemical properties of xCu/MCM-22 zeolites were analyzed by XRD, nitrogen physisorption, ICP-AES, SEM, NH3-TPD, UV-vis, H2-TPR and XPS experiments. The Cu species existing in xCu/MCM-22 are mainly isolated Cu2+, CuOx and unreducible copper species. The concentrations of both isolated Cu2+ and CuOx species in xCu/MCM-22 increase with Cu contents, but the increment of CuOx species is more distinct, especially in high Cu loadings (>4 wt%). NH3-SCR experimental results demonstrated that the activity of xCu/MCM-22 is sensitive to Cu content at low Cu loadings (≤4 wt%). When the Cu loading exceeds 4 wt%, the NH3-SCR activity of xCu/MCM-22 is irrelevant to Cu content due to the severe pore blockage effects caused by aggregated CuOx species. Among the five xCu/MCM-22 zeolites, 4Cu/MCM-22 with moderate Cu content has the best NH3-SCR performance, which displays higher than 80% NOx conversions in a wide temperature window (160–430 °C). Furthermore, the hydrothermal aging experiments (xCu/MCM-22 was treated at 750 °C for 10 h under 10% water vapor atmosphere) illustrated that all the xCu/MCM-22 zeolites exhibit high hydrothermal stability in NH3-SCR reactions.

The synthesis of cyclic carbonates from carbon dioxide (CO2) and epoxides is a 100% atom economical reaction and an attractive pathway for CO2 utilisation. Because CO2 is a thermodynamically stable molecule, the use of catalysts is mandatory in reducing the activation energy of the CO2 conversion. Considering environmental compatibility and the high-efficiency catalytic conversion of CO2, there is the strong need to develop green catalysts. Biomass-based catalysts, a type of renewable resource, have attracted considerable attention due to their unique properties—non-toxic, low-cost, pollution-free, etc. In this review, recent advances in the development of biomass-based catalysts for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates by CO2 and epoxides coupling are summarized and discussed in detail. The effect of biomass-based catalysts, functional groups, reaction conditions, and co-catalysts on the catalytic efficiency and selectivity of synthesizing cyclic carbonates process is discussed. We intend to provide a comprehensive understanding of recent experimental and theoretical progress of CO2 and epoxides coupling reaction and pave the way for both CO2 conversion and biomass unitization.
