Abstract Background How to quickly read and interpret intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) images of patients with degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) to obtain meaningful information? Few studies have systematically explored this topic. Purpose To systematically and comprehensively explore the IOUS characteristics of patients with DCM. Materials and methods This single-center study retrospectively included patients with DCM who underwent French-door laminoplasty (FDL) with IOUS guidance from October 2019 to March 2022. One-way ANOVA and Pearson’s /Spearman’s correlation analysis were used to analyze the correlations between the cross-sectional area of the spinal cord (SC) and individual characteristics; the relationships between the morphology, echogenicity, pulsation, decompression statuses, compression types of SC, location of the spinal cord central echo complex (SCCEC) and the disease severity (the preoperative Japanese Orthopedic Association score, preJOA score); the difference of the spinal cord pulsation amplitude(SCPA) and the SCCEC forward movement rate (FMR) between the compressed areas(CAs) and the non-compressed areas (NCAs). Results A total of 38 patients were successfully enrolled (30 males and 8 females), and the mean age was 57.05 ± 10.29 (27–75) years. Background: In recent years, the incidence of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has increased rapidly with a suboptimal prognosis. In AML, cell death is independent of tumorigenesis, tumor invasion, and drug resistance. PANoptosis is a newly discovered form of cell death that combines pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis. However, no studies have explored the role of PANoptosis-based signatures in AML. Methods: We screened for PANoptosis-related genes and established a PANoptosis-risk signature using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Cox regression analysis. We combined TCGA, bulk RNA sequencing, and single-cell sequencing to investigate the correlation between candidate genes and the AML tumor microenvironment. Results: The PANoptosis risk signature effectively predicted prognosis with good sensitivity and specificity. The risk score emerged as an independent prognostic factor. Functional enrichment analysis of PANoptosis-related differentially expressed genes suggested that the risk score may be related to cell immunity. Patients with high-risk scores exhibited increased immune cell infiltration, implying a hot tumor immune microenvironment. The risk score was positively correlated with the immune scores and expression levels of immune checkpoints. Therefore, we identified three model factors, BIRC3, PELI1, and PRKACG, as predictors for immunotherapy efficacy. Single-cell sequencing analysis demonstrated that PELI1 and BIRC3 may participate in the regulation of the AML immune microenvironment. Finally, we performed a drug sensitivity analysis to target BIRC3 and PELI1 using molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. Conclusion: Our study established and verified a PANoptosis risk signature to predict the survival and immunological treatment response in AML.

Abstract To reduce the local scour around the spur dike, the U-shaped collar is proposed in this study. The influence of the collar's length, width, and porosity on the local scour reduction in clear water is studied by model tests and numerical simulations. Experimental studies show that the collar has a significant effect on reducing the local scour. The location of the maximum scour depth of the spur dike moves downstream. The width of the collar has the greatest impact on the reduction effect among the three selected factors, followed by the porosity and the length. Local scour reduction efficiency of the collar can reach 56.9%. Based on the regression analysis of the range and variety, a formula for predicting the reduction effect around the spur dike is put forward, and the deviation between the values by formula and that in experiments are within ± 4%. The characteristics of the flow field around the spur dike under constant conditions with a collar are studied via numerical simulation. The numerical simulation results show that compared to the case without collar, the flow velocities around the spur dike in cases with permeable collar and solid collar reduced by 45% and 25%, respectively, and the shear stresses reduced by 20% and 28.6%, respectively. The results of this study can provide a reference for local scour reduction using the solid collar or collar made of permeable materials such as gabions.

Abstract As the terminal of the power system, the distribution network is the main area where failures occur. In addition, with the integration of distributed generation, the traditional distribution network becomes more complex, rendering the conventional fault location algorithms based on a single power supply obsolete. Therefore, it is necessary to seek a new algorithm to locate the fault of the distributed power distribution network. In existing fault localization algorithms for distribution networks, since there are only two states of line faults, which can usually be represented by 0 and 1, most algorithms use discrete algorithms with this characteristic for iterative optimization. Therefore, this paper combines the advantages of the particle swarm algorithm and genetic algorithm and uses continuous real numbers for iteration to construct a successive particle swarm genetic algorithm (SPSO-GA) different from previous algorithms. The accuracy, speed, and fault tolerance of SPSO-GA, discrete particle swarm Genetic algorithm, and artificial fish swarm algorithm are compared in an IEEE33-node distribution network with the distributed power supply. The simulation results show that the SPSO-GA algorithm has high optimization accuracy and stability for single, double, or triple faults. Furthermore, SPSO-GA has a rapid convergence velocity, requires fewer particles, and can locate the fault segment accurately for the distribution network containing distorted information.

Highlights Novel customized metamaterial gelatin-based conductive film (GCF) was developed to ensure good biocompatibility and biodegradability for implantable bioelectronics integrating monitoring with tissue repair. The metamaterial property demonstrated high conformal with soft tissues to promote the signal-to-noise ratio. The GCF revealed elastic modulus regulated from 20 to 420 kPa and Poisson's ratio from − 0.25 to 0.52. It was fabricated by embedding different 3D printing ultrafine fiber networks with metamaterial design into ultra-low modulus Gelatin methacryloyl hydrogel.

Abstract Based on existing researches, field drillings and numerical simulations are carried out in this paper to analyze the problems of subsidence control in the goaf of multi-layer inclined coal seam. Midas/GTS NX is used to build a three-dimensional calculation model of the goaf. A new method of using borehole data to check simulation parameters is proposed. The whole process of goaf excavation, construction of roadbed (pile foundation) and grouting treatment is analyzed. Analysis theory of different subgrade construction schemes and grouting treatment process on goaf is established. Response characteristics of displacement and equivalent stress and strain of goaf in multilayer inclined coal seam are obtained. A new method for analyzing the characteristics of the stress and deformation of the rock strata before and after grouting in the goaf under the conditions of different foundation schemes on the surface is provided in this research.

Abstract Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) electrosynthesis through oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is drawing worldwide attention, whereas suffering seriously from the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the difficult extraction of thermodynamically unstable H2O2. Herein, we present an electrosynthesis protocol involving coupling ORR-to-H2O2 with waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) upcycling and the first H2O2 conversion strategy. Ni-Mn bimetal- and onion carbon-based catalysts are designed to catalyze ORR-to-H2O2 and ethylene glycol electrooxidation with the Faradaic efficiency of 97.5% (H2O2) and 93.0% (formate). This electrolysis system runs successfully at only 0.927 V to achieve an industrial-scale current density of 400 mA cm−2, surpassing all reported H2O2 electrosynthesis systems. H2O2 product is upgraded through two downstream routes of converting H2O2 into sodium perborate and dibenzoyl peroxide. Techno-economic evolution highlights the high gross profit of the ORR || PET upcycling protocol over HER || PET upcycling and ORR || OER. This work provides an energy-saving methodology for the electrosynthesis of H2O2 and other chemicals.

Abstract Poor selectivity, low bioavailability and serious systemic side-effects have limited the application of traditional chemotherapy method for treatment of prostate cancer. Stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems for chemotherapy are mainly based on the unique characteristics of tumor microenvironment. In this study, the GSH-sensitive poly-TTG-SS@DTX NPs (DTX-loaded poly-Tetraethylene glycol nanoparticles) were designed and synthesized, which were characterized with nanosized diameter (92.8 ± 2.5 nm) and negatively charged surface charge (−24.7 ± 5.56 mV). Experiments in vitro showed that poly-TTG-SS@DTX NPs had good compatibility to healthy cells and strong anti-tumor effect because of rapid and sustained drug release of DTX from poly-TTG-SS@DTX NPs under the tumor-microenvironment condition. The cellular activity remained greater than 90% when the concentration of poly-TTG-SS NPs reached as high as 100 µg/mL treated on healthy cells. The killing effect of DTX loading NPs group on C4-2 cells was stronger than that of free anti-tumor drug and free DTX combined with the blank nano-carrier (25.21% vs 19.93% vs 20.96%). In conclusion, poly-TTG-SS@DTX NPs may provide a new therapeutic strategy for the chemotherapy of prostate cancer. Graphical Abstract

Abstract To investigate the effect of initial cracks on the fatigue performance of high-strength bolts for high-speed train brake discs, the fatigue crack propagation behavior of high-strength bolts under the coupling action of preload and dynamic fatigue load was investigated experimentally and numerically based on the theory of linear elastic fracture mechanics. Firstly, fatigue tests of high-strength bolts with initial crack defects were carried out, and then a three-dimensional accurate numerical model with the hexahedral mesh for a bolt-nut was established by MATLAB, and the fatigue crack propagation behaviors were investigated using ABAQUS-FRANC3D interactive technology. In this paper, the effects of the initial crack state, the bolt preload, the axial excitation load, and the friction coefficient of the screw pair on crack propagation life were emphatically studied, and the simulated crack propagation trajectory and crack propagation life agreed well with the experimental results. The findings indicated that 0°-oriented cracks beginning at the maximum principal stress were predicted to have the shortest fatigue life. The crack propagation life was sensitive to the initial crack size, the coefficient of initial crack geometry, and the bolt preload, but not to the friction coefficient of the screw pair. Furthermore, when evaluating the effect of fatigue load on crack propagation, the load ratio, the mean load, and the load range should all be considered.

Aiming at the problem of fuzzy selection basis of dual-structure slope simulation calculation parameters and the complicated force and deformation of the slope body in the supporting process. The study relies on the treatment project of the right side slope of the K5 + 220-K5 + 770 section of the TJ1A section of the Jiangwen Expressway. The slope is a gravel soil-weathered bedrock dual structure slope, which is referred to as Hetangba slope in the study. Use Midas/GTS NX to build a trial calculation model. A new method for checking simulation parameters of deep displacement monitoring data is proposed. The superposition calculation method of pore water pressure is proposed to realize the slope stress-seepage coupling. The analysis method of slope excavation and support process is put forward. The analysis shows that the most dangerous working condition in the slope excavation and support process is the second-level excavation. When there is a local displacement and plastic strain concentration area on the slope, the reference significance of the extreme value and the safety factor is reduced. Compared with the application of pore water pressure and no pore water pressure, there is no obvious change in the position of the extreme value of horizontal displacement and plastic strain in working conditions 2–8, but the extreme value changes are different. The slope safety factor of working conditions 2–8 is reduced. The continuous distribution zone of plastic strain inside the slope disappeared in condition 7. There is a very small unstable area on the top of the third-level slope of working conditions 9–11. The research results have great theoretical guiding significance for the measurement and control simulation and early warning analysis of the dual structure slope construction process.

Background The cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) test was proposed as a rapid diagnostic tool to identify cryptococcal meningitis in patients suffering from AIDS. Several studies have demonstrated its diagnostic performance in cryptococcal meningitis. However, the diagnostic performance of the CrAg test in serum or bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in patients with pulmonary cryptococcosis remains uncertain. Therefore, the purpose of this systematic review is to summarise the evidence concerning diagnostic performance of the CrAg test in patients with pulmonary cryptococcosis.Methods and analysis Databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Web of Science, ClinicalTrials.gov, International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, Wanfang Database and China National Knowledge Infrastructure will be searched systematically. The titles and abstracts will be reviewed by two independent reviewers. The Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 tool will be used to evaluate the risk of bias and clinical applicability of each study. Potential sources of heterogeneity will be investigated through visual inspection of the paired forest plots and summary receiver operating characteristic plots. The pooled summary statistics for the area under the curve, sensitivities, specificities, likelihood ratios and diagnostic ORs with 95% CI will be reported.Ethics and dissemination The underlying study is based on published articles thus does not require ethical approval. The findings of the systematic review and meta-analysis will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and disseminated in various scientific conferences and seminars.PROSPERO registration number CRD42022373321.

Local scour occurring near bridge piers has become a major problem all over the world, which has caused countless bridge damage events. Explorations regarding local scour reduction measurements have become a research hotspot in the field. Much effective research has been conducted on scour reduction for single piers. However, studies on local scour reduction around multiple piers that are arranged in tandem have rarely been reported. Therefore, the effect of the span and the local scour reduction measurement (collar) on the characteristics of the local scouring behavior around two piers arranged in tandem are explored in this research, with numerical simulations in clear-water conditions. The results show that the local scour depth of the downstream pier increases gradually with an increase in the pier spacing, due to the weakened sheltering effect of the upstream pier. The local scouring of both the upstream and downstream piers can be reduced if the upstream pier is protected by a collar. The local scour reduction efficiency of the upstream pier can reach 52~55%. The local scour reduction efficiency of the downstream pier decreases rapidly from 84.3% to 8.3% with an increase in the pier spacing. If the pier spacing, G, is greater than 4.0D (D is the diameter of the pier), the local scour depth around the downstream pier is larger than that around the upstream pier. Therefore, if the local scour depth of the upstream pier is considered safe and acceptable, it is used as the reduction target of the downstream local scour depth. A collar must be adapted for use around the downstream pier when G/D > 4.0. If both the piers are protected by collars of the same size (W = 3.0D), the local scour reduction efficiency of the downstream pier is about 15% more than that of the upstream pier. The local scour depth around the downstream pier is 64.5% of that around the upstream pier. Therefore, the size of the collar around the downstream pier can be decreased to save costs. The local scour reduction efficiency for the downstream pier reduces from 66.7% to 39.8% when the downstream collar size (W) decreases from 3.0D to 2.0D. To ensure that the local scour depth around the downstream pier is no greater than that of the upstream pier, the downstream collar should be larger than 2.25D. These results can serve as a reference for the local scour reduction of two piers arranged in tandem.

A new method was proposed for the evaluation of the efficiency of microwave heating asphalt mixtures and the influences of density and particle sizes of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). Temperature distributions of asphalt mixtures with density of 1.35 and 2.02 t/m3 and particle size ranges of 3–6, 6–9.5, and 9.5–13.2 mm along the direction of microwave propagation were experimentally evaluated and the results obtained for the efficiency of microwave heating RAP with different densities and particle sizes were compared based on the proposed method. Also, increase of the particle size of RAP with basalt aggregates higher ability of microwave absorption.

The stress and deformation response characteristics of the support structure in the process of excavation and support of circular sand foundation pit are complex. The existing research results lack a general analysis method for the mutual check between the field monitoring data and the numerical simulation results. This research relies on the excavation and support project of a circular foundation pit in the sandy soil layer of the west anchorage of Humen Second Bridge. The force and deformation characteristics of foundation pit soil are monitored and structure is supported during construction. A new method for checking simulation parameters based on the excursion monitoring data of the diaphragm wall is proposed. The modeling and calculation theory of foundation pit excavation and support process is established. The superposition calculation of pore water pressure is used to realize the foundation pit seepage-stress coupling. The effects of steady-state seepage conditions on the equivalent strain of foundation pit soil, the displacement of the diaphragm wall, and the axial force of the lining are compared and analyzed. The stress and deformation mechanism of the soil layer and supporting structure during the excavation and support of a circular foundation pit in the sand layer is obtained.

Abstract Background and Purpose Chronic low back pain (CLBP), which has a close relationship with lumbar muscle degeneration, can be effectively treated by exercise therapy, and yoga has been widely accepted by clinicians and patients with CLBP. The purpose of this study was to observe the changes in the thickness of lumbodorsal muscles that occur during locust pose in yoga and how these changes occur. From the changes in muscle thickness that occur in the locust pose, the contractile function of lumbodorsal muscles can be evaluated. Methods Fifty-two healthy volunteers (from May 2019 to August 2019, age from 28 to 68 years, 23 males and 29 females (age: 40 ± 8 years; weight: 68.3 ± 5.2 kg; height: 170.2 ± 13.1 cm) were recruited, and lumbodorsal muscle, including the multifidus, longissimus, iliocostalis, and quadratus lumborum, ultrasonic examinations were carried out in the relaxed and contracted states. The changes in the thickness of the lumbodorsal muscles in the relaxed and contracted states were dynamically observed by real-time ultrasound when subjects were performing the locust yoga pose. Then, the thicknesses of the muscles during the two states were measured to calculate the ratio of contraction of each muscle and determine the statistical significance of the change in thickness of each muscle. Results The mean thickness of the left multifidus in the relaxed state was 1.32 ± 0.27 cm (95 % CI: 1.24 ~ 1.39), that in the contracted state was 1.60 ± 0.30 cm (95 % CI: 1.52 ~ 1.69) (obviously different between the relaxed and contracted states, P

Hydrocarbon-generating material determines the elemental composition and hydrocarbon-generating potential of kerogens in a source rock, and it is the key material basis to control the hydrocarbon-generating capacity of the source rock. Previous studies have shown that many intervals of high-quality source rocks generally contain a varying number of volcanic ash layers. The impact of these volcanic ash layers on the development of high-quality source rocks has attracted extensive attention. However, these studies mainly focused on the development of hydrocarbon-forming organisms and the preservation of organic matters but rarely dealt with the differential development of hydrocarbon-forming organisms between multiple volcanic ash layers. The Permian Dalong Formation in the northwestern Sichuan Basin, China, is a set of high-quality source rocks with multiple volcanic sedimentary layers. To understand the differential development of hydrocarbon-forming organisms between volcanic ash layers, with the Dalong Formation in the Longfeng quarry section, Guangyuan, the Sichuan Basin as an example, this study analyzes the types of hydrocarbon-generating materials of high-quality source rocks of the Dalong Formation and the reasons why volcanic activities affected the growth of hydrocarbon-forming organisms and explores the impact of volcanic activities on the development of different types of hydrocarbon-forming organisms. The results show that the TOC of the Longfeng quarry section is 0.05%–15.46%, with an average of 4.76%, and the average TOC of the Dalong Formation is as high as 5.16%, which belongs to high-quality source rocks. The hydrocarbon-forming organism association in the Dalong Formation source rocks is mainly composed of floating algae and benthic algae and vertically divided into three parts: a few radiolarians and trace fossils occasionally in the lower part; a large number of radiolarians, calcium spheres, and algal debris in the middle part; and mainly foraminifera and gastropods in the upper part. There are 36 volcanic ash layers in the Dalong Formation of the study area. In the process of volcanic activity, the “fertilization” effect of volcanic ash made the nutrient elements in the volcanic ash enter water, increasing the number of hydrocarbon-forming organisms, causing the differential development of various hydrocarbon-forming organisms, and promoting the formation of reducing water to support the preservation of organic matters. The development of hydrocarbon-forming organisms is controlled by the changes of element types and abundances caused by magmatic properties. The time interval of volcanic activities also has an important impact on the development of hydrocarbon-forming organisms.

Abstract Background To study the correlation of neurological function in degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) patients with quantitative assessment of spinal cord compression and impairment by intraoperative ultrasound imaging (IOUSI). Methods Twenty-three patients who underwent French-Door laminoplasty for multilevel DCM were followed for 6 months. Modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) score and cervical MRI were assessed before surgery and at postoperative 6 months. IOUS, used to guide decompression, were recorded. The anteroposterior diameter (APD) and the gray values of the IOUSI hyperechogenicity of the midsagittal IOUSI at the narrowest level and at the lesion-free level, and the APD and traverse diameter at the traverse maximum compression level of IOUSI were measured. Maximum spinal cord compression (MSCC), compression rate (CR), and IOUSI gray value ratio (Rgray) were calculated. The appearance of preoperative T2W MRI increased signal intensity (ISI), and the signal change rate (SCR) on postoperative T2W MRI of 9 patients were also measured and calculated, and compared with that of IOUSI hyperechogenicity. Results Average mJOA score increased significantly from 11.57 ± 2.67 before surgery to 15.39 ± 1.50 at 6 months after surgery, with an average recovery rate (RR) of 71.11 ± 22.81%. The difference between the appearance of preoperative T2W MRI ISI and IOUSI hyperechogenicity was not significant. Spearman correlation analysis found that the IOUSI Rgray were negatively correlated with the RR of mJOA score with a coefficient of − 0.77, and the IOUSI Rgray was not correlated with the postoperative MRI SCR. Conclusions In DCM patients, the gray values of IOUSI can be measured accurately. The IOUSI Rgray correlated with postoperative neurological recovery significantly.

To address the shortcomings of the solid collar, mainly the potential risk of deformation and damage due to its weight after overhanging above the river bed caused by local scour, a lighter form of a local scour reduction measure, the permeable collar, was proposed. The aim was to reduce the local scour depth around cylindrical piers, and a total of 20 tests were conducted in this study. First, the influence of the porosity of the permeable collar on the local scour reduction efficiency was studied under the condition of the constant size of the installation height, the diameter, and the thickness of the permeable collar based on indoor model experiments. Then, under the condition of optimal porosity, the influence of the installation height, the diameter, and the thickness of the permeable collar on reduction efficiency were studied in order. The results show that the porosity of the collar has a great influence on the local scour reduction. The reduction efficiency increases first and then decreases with the increase in collar porosity. When the collar porosity is 50%, the reduction effect is the best, and can reach up to 78.1%. The reduction efficiency decreases with the increase in installation height of the collar, and the reduction effect is the best when the collar is placed on the surface of the riverbed, which is close to the reduction efficiency when using a solid collar placed on the surface of the riverbed. The reduction efficiency increases with the increase in collar diameter, which increases rapidly when the diameters are less than 3.5 D (D is the diameter of bridge piers) and then slows down until tending to 100%. The reduction efficiency decreases rapidly with the increase in the collar thickness, when the thickness of the collar is 0.15 D, the reduction effect can reach up to 89.6% in this study. The results can give a perspective on the reduction of local scour depths around bridge piers.

Rolling is a process that can improve the performance and roughness of machined parts and has a special economic value; therefore, the optimization of rolling process parameters is crucial to workpiece performance. In this paper, three rolling methods are used in molecular dynamics (MD) rolling simulations to study their effects on the surface of nickel-based superalloy GH4169 at the nanoscale. The surface and subsurface of the workpiece after rolling with the three different rolling methods are studied separately; in particular, a comparative analysis of the dislocation generation and movement on the subsurface, crystal defect evolution, and surface roughness was performed. The results show that the increase in subsurface dislocation density by average rolling has a significant influence on the work hardening effect, and the average roughness of the rolled groove surface is the lowest. This is an important reference for the optimization of the parameters of actual rolling processes.

To improve the local scour protection of the pier using solid sacrificial piles, a kind of permeable sacrificial pile filled with stones is put forward in this study. Four influencing factors, including the size of the filling gravel of the permeable sacrificial pile, the distance between the pile and pier, the diameter ratio D1/D (D is the diameter of the pier and D1 is the diameter of the pile.), and the submergence rate of the pile, are studied in clear water condition with indoor tests and numerical simulations. The test results show that it has the best reduction effect on the local scour of the pier when the filled gravel size is 0.2–0.25 D, the distance between the pile and pier is 3.0 D, the diameter ratio is 1.0, and the submergence rate is 0.8. Results of the numerical simulation show that the permeable sacrificial pile has a significant weakening effect on the downflow in front of the pile and the flow velocity around the pile. In the same conditions, the reduction effects of the permeable sacrificial pile and the solid sacrificial pile on the pier are similar, but the local scour around the permeable sacrificial pile is less than that around the solid one. The pressure difference outside and inside the permeable pile causes the water to flow in the direction perpendicular to the isobars. This significantly impacts the flow velocity, the vortex system, and the shear stress around the permeable sacrificial pile and pier, which leads to a huge decrease in the local scour depths. The maximum shear stress on both sides of the permeable sacrificial pile and the pier is about 1/2 and 1/4 of those around the solid sacrificial pile respectively. And the area with lower velocity and shear stress behind the permeable sacrificial pile is larger than the area behind the solid ones.

Using the rock mechanics test (RMT) and acoustic emission acquisition system (DS9), based on the energy principle, uniaxial compression, uniaxial cyclic loading, and unloading tests are used to study the energy transformation characteristics of the process of sandstone absorbing axial strain energy, accumulating and releasing elastic strain energy, plastic deformation, and crack extension dissipation energy. The study results show the increase of loading rate, rock fracture surface increases, number of fragments increases, and size of fragments decreases; the sandstone damage process causes: shear damage to tensile shear damage and then splitting damage for change; the input energy and elastic energy increase nonlinearly with an increase of stress, and the dissipative energy is larger at the beginning of loading. After a small decrease, it enters the nonlinear growth stage, and the input energy density grows the fastest. The elastic energy density is the second fastest, and the dissipative energy density grows the slowest; with an increase of loading rate, in any deformation stage, the elastic energy density and dissipation energy density are increased, proportion of elastic energy density is decreased, and proportion of dissipation energy density is increased. Near the peak stress stage, the proportion of elastic energy decreases, and the proportion of dissipative energy increases; the damage variable stress curve of sandstone is “weakly concave”, which is consistent with the logistic function, and the damage evolution process has chaotic dynamics properties; the acoustic emission energy of sandstone in cyclic loading and unloading test has a similar variation with the theoretical calculation of dissipated energy. The cumulative energy curve shows a step-up law, and the stress corresponding to the step point is near the historical maximum stress.

Here heavy metal (Cd, Zn, and Cu) accumulation features of sea rice (a salt-tolerant rice cultivar) were explored to provide a reference for preventing and controlling of heavy metals, screen new plant remediation resources, and offer the basis for safe sea rice production. The sea rice variety Hai Hong 12 (HH12) was used as the research object in the soil culture experiments conducted to investigate the effects of the addition of Cd (0, 1, 2, 4, 8 mg/kg), Zn (0, 100, 200, 300, 400 mg/kg), and Cu (0, 100, 200, 300, 400 mg/kg) on the growth and accumulation of heavy metals in different HH12 parts. At different Cd and Zn concentrations, the root biomass of HH12 decreased significantly and the shoot biomass showed no marked difference; however, Cu stress inhibited the rice biomass. The Cd content in different parts of sea rice increased with an increase in Cd levels. At 8 mg/kg, shoot and spike had the highest Cd content, which was 89.02 and 45.37 mg/kg, respectively. At 1 mg/kg Cd concentration, the Cd transport coefficient of sea rice was the highest (1.36). The Zn content was the highest in sea rice at 400 mg/kg Zn. Although rainfall is rare on the Loess Plateau of western China, landslides occur frequently there in rainy season. Surveys report that landslide hazards always follow heavy rains. In this study, a seepage-stress coupling model for rainfall induced landslide is used to examine an actual disastrous event in Yulin by the end of July, 2017. The effects of rainfall duration, rainfall intensity and soil weakening on slope stability are studied in detail. The results illustrate that the safety factor drops sharply at first and then is gradually declining to below 1.05 during additional two days of heavy rain. With soil strength softening considered, the slope would be more unstable, in which the weakening in soil cohesion is found to be a more sensitive factor. Deformation control of fill subgrade is a difficult point in the field of highway engineering. This article relies on the treatment project of micro-piles for subgrade deformation of K555 + 070～K557 + 710 section of Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway. Settlement and stress monitoring was carried out at the toe of the roadbed, the shoulder, and the center of the roadbed. We use Midas/GTS modeling trial calculation. A new method to check the simulation results of the deviation rate is proposed. A calculation model of the stress and deformation of the subgrade in the whole life cycle is established. The results of comparative analysis, monitoring, and simulation are as follows. ① The compression and consolidation of the fill account for most of the settlement and deformation of the roadbed in the whole life cycle. ② Subgrade center settlement is the sensitive part of subgrade deformation. ③ After piles are added, the deformation extremes at the toe of the slope, the shoulder, and the center of the roadbed are all reduced by more than 96%. The research results can provide theoretical guidance for the analysis of the stress and deformation characteristics of the subgrade before and after the micro-pile treatment.

The establishment of the prestressed cable loss prediction model is a difficult problem faced by the popularization and use. This article aims at the problem of the loss of anchor cable prestress over time in the soil-rock dual-structure slope. We relied on the soil-rock dual-structure slope treatment project of section K5 + 220-K5 + 770 of Jiangwen Expressway and monitored the prestress loss of the anchor cable in the slope through the anchor cable meter with built-in vibrating wire sensor. Using regression analysis and segmented modelling methods, we established a comprehensive mathematical improvement model, analyzed the applicability of the improved model, and obtained the error range, 0.04%–8.9%. This work offers a new approach for predicting anchor cable prestress loss, which has certain practical value for the use of prestressed anchor cables.

A generalized Brans-Dicke (GBD) theory in the framework of Palatini formalism is proposed in this paper. We derive the field equations by using the variational approach and obtain the linearized equations by using the weak-field approximation method. We show various properties of the geometrical scalar field in the Palatini-formalism of GBD theory: it is massless and source-free, which are different from the results given in the metric-formalism of GBD theory. Also, we investigate the polarization modes of gravitational waves (GWs) by using the geodesic deviation method and the Newman-Penrose method in the Palatini-GBD theory. It is observed that there are three polarizations modes and four oscillations in the Palatini-GBD theory. Concretely, they are the two transverse tensor (+) and (×) standard polarization modes, and one breathing mode (with two oscillations). The results of GWs polarization in the Palatini-GBD theory are different from that in the metric-GBD theory, where there are four polarizations modes: the two standard tensorial modes (+ and ×), a scalar breathing mode, and a massive scalar mode that is a mix of the longitudinal and the breathing polarization. Comparing with the Palatini-f(R˜) theory and the General Relativity, we can see that the extra breathing mode of GWs polarization can be found in the Palatini-GBD theory. At last, the expression of the parameterized post Newton (PPN) parameter is derived, which could pass through the experimental test.

It is a difficult point in the field of geotechnical engineering to test the simulation parameters of the pile-anchor supporting structure of slope excavation and analyze the effect of seepage on the stress of the structure. This study relies on the right side slope treatment project of a highway in Guizhou Province. Aiming at the defect that the current numerical simulation parameter selection is fuzzy, the deep displacement monitoring data and P value inspection method are used to check the simulation parameters. We establish a 2D finite element model of slope excavation and support. The superposition calculation method of pore water pressure was used to analyze the stress characteristics of the slope-supporting structure after applying steady-state seepage. The analysis shows the following. ① Initial support stage: the steady-state seepage causes the axial force extreme value of the prestressed anchor cable to increase by 11.22% at this stage. ② Secondary support stage: the steady-state seepage reduces the shear limit of the antislide pile by 3.11% and the bending moment by 14.90%. ③ Comparative analysis of the two supporting phases: the newly constructed pile-anchor supporting structure has a significant effect on the original pile-anchor supporting structure. At the same time, the bending and shearing resistance of the newly added antislide piles has not been fully exerted. The research results provide new ideas for the research on the safety control ability of the slope support construction process.

ABSTRACT: Storm surge along the China's Zhe-Min coast is addressed using the tightly coupled surge model of ADCIRC+SWAN. In this study, we primarily focus on the effects of surge-tide interaction and wave set-up/set-down. And the influences of intensity and landing moment of tropical cyclone (TC) are also presented. The results show that: water elevation without considering tide-surge interaction tends to be underestimated/overestimated when TC lands during astronomical low/high tide; tide-surge coupling effect is more pronounced north of TC track (more than 0.7 m in our cases); irrelevant to TC's intensity, wave set-up south of TC track is negligible because the depth-related wave breaking doesn't occur in water body blown towards open seas. Through creep performance tests, microstructural observations, and contrast analysis of the dislocation configuration, the deformation and damage mechanism of the directionally solidified nickel-based superalloy during creep at moderate temperatures was investigated. The findings suggested that the deformation of the alloy in the late stage of creep at moderate temperatures involved dislocations slipping in the γ matrix and shearing into the γ′ phase. The super-dislocations sheared into the γ′ phase could either be decomposed to form a super-Shockley incomplete dislocation plus superlattice intrinsic stacking fault (SISF) configuration, or it could slip from the {111} plane to the {100} plane and decompose to form a dislocation configuration of the Kear–Wilsdorf (K-W) lock plus antiphase domain boundary (APB). The configurations of the dislocations could inhibit the slipping and cross-slipping of dislocations to enhance the alloy creep strength, which is thought to be one reason that the alloy displayed good creep resistance. In the late creep stage, the primary/secondary slipping systems were alternately activated, and the interaction of the slipping traces caused micro-holes to appear on the interface of the γ/γ′ phases at the intersection areas of the two slipping systems. The micro-holes gathered and grew to form micro-cracks, which extended along the grain boundary at 45° to the stress axis until creep rupture occurred. These were the damage and fracture characteristics of the alloy in the late stage of creep at moderate temperatures.

In offshore engineering design, it is considerably significant to have an adequately accurate estimation of marine environmental parameters, in particular, the extreme wind speed of tropical cyclone (TC) with different return periods to guarantee the safety in projected operating life period. Based on the 71-year (1945–2015) TC data in the Northwest Pacific (NWP) by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of US, a notable growth of the TC intensity is observed in the context of climate change. The fact implies that the traditional stationary model might be incapable of predicting parameters in the extreme events. Therefore, a non-stationary model is proposed in this study to estimate extreme wind speed in the South China Sea (SCS) and NWP. We find that the extreme wind speeds of different return periods exhibit an evident enhancement trend, for instance, the extreme wind speeds with different return periods by non-stationary model are 4.1%–4.4% higher than stationary ones in SCS. Also, the spatial distribution of extreme wind speed in NWP has been examined with the same methodology by dividing the west sea areas of the NWP 0°–45°N, 105°E–130°E into 45 subareas of 5°×5°, where oil and gas resources are abundant. Similarly, remarkable spacial in-homogeneity in the extreme wind speed is seen in this area: the extreme wind speed with 50-year return period in the subarea (15°N–20°N, 115°E–120°E) of Zhongsha and Dongsha Islands is 73.8 m/s, while that in the subarea of Yellow Sea (30°N–35°N, 120°E–125°E) is only 47.1 m/s. As a result, the present study demonstrates that non-stationary and in-homogeneous effects should be taken into consideration in the estimation of extreme wind speed.

The selection of calculation parameters for slope excavation support design and the analysis of seepage stability is a significant challenge. This difficulty also hinders the development of slope support engineering. This study examined the right binary structure slope engineering of the K5 + 220–K5 + 770 section of the TJ1A mark of the Jiangkou-Weng’an Highway in Guizhou province. In this study, we propose and use the deep displacement monitoring data and p value test method to check the simulation parameters. Furthermore, the superposition calculation method for steady-state seepage analysis of slope geotechnical structure is proposed. A comparative analysis of the displacement, strain, stress, and safety factor of the slope after the application of pore water pressure was carried out for three slope conditions. The analysis showed that steady-state seepage has a significant effect on the displacement of the slope during the completion of excavation. As a result, a continuous distribution of strain arises on the slope along the interface between the potential sliding surface and the rock–soil layer, and then forms a continuous sliding zone. Additionally, steady-state seepage has a significant effect on the position of the displacement distribution during the initial support of the slope, leading to a significant increase in the extreme value of the shear outlet displacement of the potential slip surface of the slope and in the extreme value of equivalent strain. Finally, steady-state seepage reduces the displacement and equivalent strain upon construction of the secondary slope support. The steady-state seepage has a limited effect on the stress concentration, but reduces the safety factor calculated using the strength reduction method, in all three stages of slope excavation and support. This study enriches the analysis methods for determining the stability of a dual-structure slope during the rainy season, and provides new ideas for the safety and control of slope support projects.
