Abstract We review the physics opportunities of the Future Circular Collider, covering its e+e-, pp, ep and heavy ion programmes. We describe the measurement capabilities of each FCC component, addressing the study of electroweak, Higgs and strong interactions, the top quark and flavour, as well as phenomena beyond the Standard Model. We highlight the synergy and complementarity of the different colliders, which will contribute to a uniquely coherent and ambitious research programme, providing an unmatchable combination of precision and sensitivity to new physics.

Facial nerve paralysis (FNP), commonly known as Bell’s palsy or facial paralysis, significantly affects patients’ daily lives and mental well-being. Timely identification and diagnosis are crucial for early treatment and rehabilitation. With the rapid advancement of deep learning and computer vision technologies, automatic recognition of facial paralysis has become feasible, offering a more accurate and objective diagnostic approach. Current research primarily focuses on broad facial changes and often neglects finer facial details, which leads to insufficient analysis of how different areas affect recognition results. This study proposes an innovative method that combines the vision transformer (ViT) model with an action unit (AU) facial region detection network to automatically recognize and analyze facial paralysis. Initially, the ViT model utilizes its self-attention mechanism to accurately determine the presence of facial paralysis. Subsequently, we analyzed the AU data to assess the activity of facial muscles, allowing for a deeper evaluation of the affected areas. The self-attention mechanism in the transformer architecture captures the global contextual information required to recognize facial paralysis. To accurately determine the specific affected regions, we use the pixel2style2pixel (pSp) encoder and the StyleGAN2 generator to encode and decode images and extract feature maps that represent facial characteristics. These maps are then processed through a pyramid convolutional neural network interpreter to generate heatmaps. By optimizing the mean squared error between the predicted and actual heatmaps, we can effectively identify the affected paralysis areas. Our proposed method integrates ViT with facial AUs, designing a ViT-based facial paralysis recognition network that enhances the extraction of local area features through its self-attention mechanism, thereby enabling precise recognition of facial paralysis. Additionally, by incorporating facial AU data, we conducted detailed regional analyses for patients identified with facial paralysis. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of our approach, achieving a recognition accuracy of 99.4% for facial paralysis and 81.36% for detecting affected regions on the YouTube Facial Palsy (YFP) and extended Cohn Kanade (CK+) datasets. These results not only highlight the effectiveness of our automatic recognition method compared to the latest techniques but also validate its potential for clinical applications. Furthermore, to facilitate the observation of affected regions, we developed a visualization method that intuitively displays the impacted areas, thereby aiding patients and healthcare professionals in understanding the condition and enhancing communication regarding treatment and rehabilitation strategies. In conclusion, the proposed method illustrates the power of combining advanced deep learning techniques with a detailed analysis of facial AUs to improve the automatic recognition of facial paralysis. By addressing previous research limitations, the proposed method provides a more nuanced understanding of how specific facial areas are affected, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. This innovative approach not only enhances the accuracy of facial paralysis detection but also contributes to facial medical imaging.

Molecular imprinting technology (MIT), a synthetic strategy to create tailor-made molecular specificity, has recently achieved significant advancements. Epitope imprinting strategy, an improved MIT by imprinting the epitopes of biomolecules (e.g., proteins and nucleic acids), enables to target the entire molecule through recognizing partial epitopes exposed on it, greatly expanding the applicability and simplifying synthesis process of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). Thus, epitope imprinting strategy offers promising solutions for the fabrication of smart biomaterials with molecular targeting and exhibits wide applications in various biomedical scenarios. This review explores the latest advances in epitope imprinting techniques, emphasizing selection of epitopes and functional monomers. We highlight the significant improvements in specificity, sensitivity, and stability of these materials, which have facilitated their use in bioanalysis, clinical therapy, and pharmaceutical development. Additionally, we discuss the application of epitope-imprinted materials in the recognition and detection of peptides, proteins, and cells. Despite these advancements, challenges such as template complexity, imprinting efficiency, and scalability remain. This review addresses these issues and proposes potential directions for future research to overcome these barriers, thereby enhancing the efficacy and practicality of epitope molecularly imprinting technology in biomedical fields.

Ten lettuce varieties (lines) grown in Chengdu Plain were used as test materials, and 8 post-harvest appearance quality indexes (single plant weight, single plant stem weight, single plant length, stem length, stem thickness, stem skin hardness, stem flesh hardness, and stem edible rate), as well as 7 nutrient quality indexes (water content, chlorophyll, vitamin C, reducing sugars, soluble proteins, cellulose, and free amino acids) were tested and statistically analyzed. The aim of this study was to compare and evaluate the postharvest quality of the tested varieties and select the excellent varieties. The results showed that the values of coefficient of variation among the tested varieties ranged from 0.45% to 50.64%, among which the coefficient of variation of lettuce variation (lines) of free amino acid content in fleshy stems was the largest, reaching 50.64%. The content of stem chlorophyll and soluble protein, leaf reducing sugar showed great differences with the values of coefficient of variation all greater than 30%. The appearance quality, commerciality, and nutrition quality all showed strong correlation among several indicators. The excellent fresh varieties for 3 stem ('Zuhe 2019135' 'Chuanlüxiang 1' and 'Hongjiansun 2') and 3 leaf ('Zhutongqing' 'Xincuizhu' and 'Zuhe 2019135') were selected, respectively. The postharvest quality characteristics of some main lettuce varieties cultivated in winter and spring in the vegetable production area of Chengdu Plain were further clarified in this study, which could provide reference for the selection of excellent fresh lettuce varieties in production.

Abstract Background Off-label intranasal administration of injectable dexmedetomidine has been widely applied in the pediatric sedation setting. However, the development of an improved drug delivery system that is easy to use is needed. We developed a novel dexmedetomidine nasal spray that can be administered directly without dilution or configuration for pediatric pre-anesthetic sedation. This nasal spray has a fixed dose and is stable during storage. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first licensed nasal spray preparation of dexmedetomidine worldwide. Objective To evaluate the pre-anesthetic sedation efficacy and safety of the novel dexmedetomidine nasal spray in children. Methods The study was conducted at 11 sites in China between 24 November 2021 and 20 May 2022 and was registered in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05111431, first registration date: 20/10/2021). Subjects (n = 159) between 2 and 6 years old who were to undergo elective surgery were randomized to the dexmedetomidine group (n = 107) or the placebo group (n = 52) in a 2:1 ratio. The dosage was 30 µg or 50 µg based on the stratified body weight. The primary outcome measure was the proportion of subjects who achieved the desired child-parent separation and Ramsay scale ≥ 3 within 45 min of administration. Safety was monitored via the assessments of adverse events, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood oxygen saturation. Results The proportion of subjects achieving desired parental separation and Ramsay scale ≥ 3 within 45 min was significantly higher in the dexmedetomidine group (94.4%) vs the placebo group (32.0%) (P

[Introduction] Realizing peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060 have been identified as important strategic goals for fostering high-quality economic and social development in China. Carbon sink is one of the crucial approaches to achieving carbon neutrality. Effective carbon sink incentive policies are the guarantee for achieving "carbon neutrality". [Method] By sorting out the development of ecosystem carbon sinks both domestically and internationally, the main problems in the development of carbon sinks in China were revealed, and a comprehensive understanding of China's carbon sink projects was established. By studying the mechanism for carbon sink projects to participate in carbon market transactions, channels for reaping benefits were clarified. Furthermore, through comparative analysis and research on pilot experiences, relevant conclusions were drawn by analyzing specific issues. [Result] As shown by the results, the development of carbon sink projects in China is mainly focused on forestry carbon sink, involving fewer other carbon sink projects. With middle-and-short term as the main project cycle, the growth rate of project development has slowed down. There are mainly three problems faced by China's carbon sink development: (1) the limited variety of methodologies and more limitations for developing carbon sink; (2) the long development process and imperfect mechanism; (3) the insignificant incentive effect of the carbon market after development. [Conclusion] The research indicates that China's future work on ecosystem carbon sink still faces huge challenges. To promote the high-quality development of carbon sinks, it remains necessary to expedite the adjustment and upgrading of carbon sink support policies, increase investment in carbon sink technology, and actively develop the “carbon sink +” industry.

[Introduction] With the proposal of the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" and the increasing scale of the carbon market, how to manage carbon assets and realize the preservation and appreciation of carbon assets has become an important issue facing the green and low-carbon development of large-scale energy enterprises. This paper summarizes and analyzes the situation faced by large-scale energy enterprises, the status quo of management mode and the construction method of management system, and puts forward relevant suggestions for large-scale energy enterprises in China on carbon asset management.[Method] This paper first analyzed the situation faced by energy enterprises under the background of the start of the national carbon market and the upcoming restart of the national certified voluntary emission reduction CCER, and then analyzed the cost difference between the current unified management mode and the decentralized management mode of enterprise carbon assets, and then put forward the principle of "four unification" of carbon asset management, the three-level system of "enterprise headquarters-carbon asset management company-control enterprise", and the five principles of "transaction risk control", an ecological chain of carbon asset management business was constructed by building a unified carbon asset information management platform for large energy enterprises, gradually deepening the three major business segments of data management and development, low-carbon analysis and consulting, market transactions and carbon finance.[Results] Through the analysis of the current situation, development status and policy requirements of energy enterprises, the optimization method of carbon asset management system and the future business development direction are clarified. [Conclusion] This paper summarizes the carbon asset management system and business structure of large energy enterprises under the background of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. At present, there are still a series of problems brought by decentralized management in the management mode. It is necessary to gradually optimize the management from the top-level management, organization and implementation, capital guarantee, risk control management, talent guarantee, incentive assessment and other ways, so as to maximize the preservation and appreciation of carbon assets, and help the local region and even the whole country to carry out the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" work smoothly.

Drought and salt stress pose great challenges to global agriculture, yet mild deficit irrigation and salt stress have the potential to enhance water productivity (WP). However, it is not desirable to improve WP by reducing irrigation if it leads to a decrease in yield. This study aimed to investigate the effects of deficit irrigation and salt stress on maize yield and WP, as well as the underlying mechanism, and to explore agronomic practices to jointly improve maize yield and WP based on literature analysis. To achieve this, we conducted a 2–year field experiment with two maize genotypes (ZD958 and XY335), involving two irrigation levels (F: full irrigation and D: deficit irrigation, 65 % ET/80 % ET) and two salt levels (S0: no salt and S1: 2 ‰). Additionally, we performed a synthesis analysis of peer–reviewed literature to assess the effects of deficit irrigation and/or salt stress on maize yield, evapotranspiration and WP. Our results showed that both deficit irrigation and salt stress increased leaf intrinsic water use efficiency (WUEi) and WP. Compared to the control (FS0), WP significantly increased by 11.5 % in DS0 and by 9.6 % in FS1, while decreased by 3.5 % in DS1. Furthermore, the increase in WP under single water and salt stress was attributed to the reduction in ET, while the decrease in WP under combined stress was attributed to the negative effect on grain yield. Both deficit irrigation and salt stress had adverse effects on leaf morpho–physiological traits and dry matter accumulation, with salt severely inhibiting the recovery ability after rewatering. Literature analysis showed that deficit irrigation increased WP by 10.5 %, and when coupled with agronomic practices such as controlled–release fertilizers and mulching, WP improved by 19.2 % without reducing the grain yield of maize. Deficit irrigation coupled with agronomic practices can achieve a win–win situation for both maize yield and WP. This study provides valuable insights into improving irrigation practices dealing with water shortages and salt stress in arid and semi–arid regions, further ensuring national food security.

BackgroundDextrocardia is a rare congenital condition, affecting approximately 1 in 10,000–12,000 individuals. When combined with atrial fibrillation (AF), it becomes even rarer. “One-stop” surgery, including combined radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), has become a common clinical treatment for patients with AF who develop cerebral infarction despite regular oral anticoagulants. To date, no cases have been reported of patients with AF and dextrocardia undergoing the “one-stop” procedure, making this surgery particularly challenging.Case presentationAn 85-year-old dextrocardia male with total visceral inversion and persistent AF developed cerebral infarction despite regular oral anticoagulation therapy. He was referred to our hospital for RFA of AF and LAAO. The procedure was successfully performed using a three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping system (Carto3, Biosense Webster, Diamond Bar, CA, USA), intracardiac echocardiography (ICE), and x-ray, with no complications.ConclusionThis is the first reported case of a “one-stop” surgery for dextrocardia with AF. This procedure is safe and feasible with the assistance of advanced technologies such as ICE and the VIZIGO bidirectional adjustable bent sheath.

IntroductionSports gains reflect the sports development of college students, which is a direct reflection of the quality of school sports work, while the perception of sports environment, physical activity behavior, and self-efficacy in sports learning are closely related to their sports gains, which directly affects their effectiveness and interest in sports learning.ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of perceived sports environment on Chinese college students’ sport gains, and to verify the mediating roles of physical activity behavior and self-efficacy in sport learning.MethodsA survey of 2,207 Chinese university students was conducted using the sport environment perception scale, sport gain scale, physical activity behavior scale, and sport learning self-efficacy scale.Results(1) There were significant differences in age and gender between college students’ perceptions of sport environment, sport gains, sport exercise behavior, and sport learning self-efficacy, and the mean scores of each scale were better for male students than for female students. (2) Perception of sports environment was significantly positively correlated with sports gain, and perception of sports environment had a direct positive effect on sports gain. In addition, sport environment perception positively predicted physical activity behavior and sport learning self-efficacy; physical activity behavior significantly predicted sport learning self-efficacy and sport gains; physical learning self-efficacy was a significant positive predictor of sport gains. (3) Physical activity behavior and physical learning self-efficacy played a significant chained mediating role between perceived physical environment and physical gains. These results are important for promoting physical education learning outcomes among college students and provide a theoretical basis for developing interventions. However, there are limitations to this study, such as the specificity of the sample and the self-reported data used. Future research could expand the sample and utilize multiple assessment methods to validate these results.

Rapid-onset obesity with hypoventilation, hypothalamic dysfunction, and autonomic dysregulation (ROHHAD) is an exceptionally rare condition. This case report highlights a child diagnosed with ROHHAD syndrome, presenting with a mediastinal tumor. ROHHAD syndrome is characterized by early onset obesity, hypothalamic dysfunction, autonomic dysfunction, inadequate ventilation, suspected seizures, and abnormal behavior. The presence of a mediastinal tumor necessitated surgical intervention. Key considerations during surgery included hypernatremia due to hypothalamic dysfunction, potential airway challenges, preoperative anemia, and hemodynamic fluctuations during the removal of the sizable mediastinal tumor. Comprehensive preparations ensured a safe operation. Notably, some children with this syndrome may exhibit symptoms such as decreased gastrointestinal function, polyuria, and thermoregulatory disturbances. Vigilance is essential during anesthesia assessment in these patients. Anesthesiologists should enhance their knowledge of this condition and tailor their management strategies based on individual clinical presentations and the specific planned surgical procedures.

Skeletal muscle fiber characteristics are pivotal in assessing meat quality. However, there is currently a lack of research precisely quantifying the total number of myofibers (TNM) of skeletal muscles. This study used Arbor Acres (AA) broilers and Wenchang (WC) chickens to determine the TNM of several skeletal muscles and the meat quality of the pectoralis major muscle (PM). The results showed that the TNMs of the PM in AA males and females were 935,363.64 ± 92,529.28 and 873,983.72 ± 84,511.28, respectively, significantly higher than those in WC (511,468.97 ± 73,460.81 and 475,371.93 ± 70,187.83) at 7 days of age (p < 0.01). In terms of gastrocnemius medialis in AA males and females, we recorded values of 207,551.43 ± 31,639.97 and 177,203.23 ± 28,764.01, showing a significant difference compared to the values observed in WC (146,313.03 ± 29,633.21 and 124,238.9 ± 20,136.95) (p < 0.01). Similarly, the levels of gastrocnemius lateralis exhibited a significant difference between AA and WC (p < 0.01). Furthermore, the essential, umami, and sweet amino acids were found to be significantly higher in WC compared to AA (p < 0.01). These findings offer valuable data and insights for accurately quantifying the TNM in livestock and for the development of further genetic breeding strategies for meat quality.

Rivers are constantly disturbed by anthropogenic stressors. Developing robust biotic indicators to assess river environments across large spatial scales is important. In the subtropical Liuxi River of China, 34 native fish indicators, including 4 genera and 30 species, were selected from 108 fish species by linear discriminant analysis. These indicators were grouped into 19 ecological items and assigned evaluation scores according to the roles they played in the food web (e.g., keystoneness and trophic level) and their positive feedback on the environment (e.g., requirements for feeding, spawning/nursing, and migrating). Three formulae for calculating the index of fish indicators (IFI) were developed based on the scoring of each indicator and weighted by relative abundance (individual number, i.e., IFIN) and relative biomass (wet weight, i.e., IFIB). Spearman correlation analysis showed that IFIB, which had positive (P< 0.05) correlations with elevation (m), dissolved oxygen (mg/L), flow velocity (cm/s), Shannon-Wiener diversity, benthic index of biotic integrity, exhibited a more powerful explanation of biodiversity and environmental factors than IFIN and unweighted IFI. Therefore, IFIB was most suitable for constructing a scoring system to evaluate ecological status (e.g., water and habitat quality). These results suggested that fish indicator-based scoring and evaluation system was effectively in not only assessing the site- or region-specific ecological status bot also reflecting the fluvial biodiversity and food web integrity. Further application and promotion of this indicator-based evaluation method may improve field investigation efficiency and contribute greatly to the conservation and management of river ecosystems.

BackgroundAeromonas dhakensis is associated with soft tissue infection, bacteremia and gastroenteritis. Involvement of respiratory system in adults is extremely rare. We report a case of fulminant pneumonia and bacteremia due to A. dhakensis in a patient without underlying diseases.Case presentationA 26-year-old man became ill suddenly with pneumonia after swimming in a river. Despite intensive support measures in the intensive care unit, he died 13 hours after admission and 4 days after his first symptoms. Autopsy showed abundant Gram-negative bacteria, massive inflammatory cell infiltration, edema, necrosis and hemorrhage in lung tissue. A. dhakensis was isolated from blood culture taken at admission and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) after intubation. Moreover, A. dhakensis was also detected in lung tissue by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) assay. The infection may have come from river water.ConclusionIn patients who develop a fulminant pneumonia after contacting an aquatic environment, A. dhakensis should be alerted and mNGS may aid in the detection of aquatic pathogens by being more sensitive and specific versus traditional bacterial culture.

Abstract Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary malignant tumor of bone. Remodelin, an inhibitor of the N (4)-Acetylcytidine (ac4C) acetylation modifying enzyme N-acetyltransferase 10 (NAT10), has been shown to have therapeutic effects on cancer in several studies, and our previous studies have confirmed the inhibitory effect of Remodelin on OS cells, however, the mechanism of action has not yet been elucidated. We used network pharmacological analysis to quantify the therapeutic targets of Remodelin against OS. acRIP-seq and RNA-seq were performed to investigate the inhibitory activity of Remodelin on acetylation and its effect on the transcriptome after intervening in OS cells U2OS with Remodelin in vitro. Key target genes were deduced based on their pharmacological properties, combined with network pharmacology results and sequencing results. Finally, the deduced target genes were validated with vitro experiments. Network pharmacological analysis showed that 2291 OS-related target genes and 369 Remodelin-related target genes were obtained, and 116 overlapping genes were identified as Remodelin targets for OS treatment. Sequencing results showed that a total of 13,736 statistically significant ac4C modification peaks were detected by acRIP-seq, including 6938 hypoacetylation modifications and 6798 hyperacetylation modifications. A total of 2350 statistically significant mRNAs were detected by RNA-seq, of which 830 were up-regulated and 1520 were down-regulated. Association analyses identified a total of 382 genes that were Hypoacetylated-down, consistent with inhibition of mRNA acetylation and expression by Remodelin. Five genes, CASP3, ESR2, FGFR2, IGF1 and MAPK1, were identified as key therapeutic targets of Remodelin against OS. Finally, in vitro experiments, CCK-8 and qRT-PCR demonstrated that Remodelin indeed inhibited the proliferation of OS cells and reduced the expression of three genes: ESR2, IGF1, and MAPK1. In conclusion, ESR2, IGF1 and MAPK1 were identified as key therapeutic targets of Remodelin against OS. This reveals the target of Remodelin's pharmacological action on OS and provides new ideas for the treatment of OS.

Abstract The optimal treatment for acute intussusception has not yet been defined. In this study, we explored whether employing a liberal laparoscopic intervention for intussusception could lead to favorable outcomes. We performed a historical control analysis to evaluate the outcomes associated with this liberal surgical management protocol. This liberal surgical management protocol were revised to incorporate a new protocol centered around the laparoscopic approach. In some cases of acute intussusception, liberal laparoscopic exploration and intervention were undertaken without initial hydrostatic or pneumatic reduction. During the study interval, a retrospective review was conducted on a total of 3086 patients. These were categorized into two groups: 1338 cases before May 2019 (pre-protocol group) and 1748 cases after May 2019 (post-protocol group). Abstract In several filamentous fungi, incident light and environmental stress signaling share the mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK) HOG (SAK) pathway. It has been revealed that short‐term illumination with blue light triggers the activation of the HOG pathway in Trichoderma spp. In this study, we demonstrate the crucial role of the basic leucine zipper transcription factor ATF1 in blue light responses and signaling downstream of the MAPK HOG1 in Trichoderma guizhouense. The lack of ATF1 severely impaired photoconidiation and delayed vegetative growth and conidial germination. Upon blue light or H2O2 stimuli, HOG1 interacted with ATF1 in the nucleus. Genome‐wide transcriptome analyses revealed that 61.8% (509 out of 824) and 85.2% (702 out of 824) of blue light‐regulated genes depended on ATF1 and HOG1, respectively, of which 58.4% (481 out of 824) were regulated by both of them. Our results also show that blue light promoted conidial germination and HOG1 and ATF1 played opposite roles in controlling conidial germination in the dark. Additionally, the lack of ATF1 led to reduced oxidative stress resistance, probably because of the downregulation of catalase‐encoding genes. Overall, our results demonstrate that ATF1 is the downstream component of HOG1 and is responsible for blue light responses, conidial germination, vegetative growth, and oxidative stress resistance in T. guizhouense.

Common oat (Avena sativa L.) is one of the important minor grain crops in China, and drought stress severely affects its yield and quality. To investigate the drought resistance characteristics of oat seedlings, this study used Baiyan 2, an oat cultivar at the three-leaf stage, as the experimental material. Drought stress was simulated using polyethylene glycol (PEG) to treat the seedlings. The photosynthetic parameters and physicochemical indices of the treatment groups at 6 h and 12 h were measured and compared with the control group at 0 h. The results showed that drought stress did not significantly change chlorophyll content, but it significantly reduced net photosynthetic rate and other photosynthetic parameters while significantly increasing proline content. Transcriptome analysis was conducted using seedlings from both the control and treatment groups, comparing the two treatment groups with the control group using Tbtool software (v2.136). This analysis identified 344 differentially expressed genes. Enrichment analysis of these differentially expressed genes revealed significant enrichment in physiological pathways such as photosynthesis and ion transport. Ten differentially expressed genes related to the physiological process of photosynthetic carbon assimilation were identified, all of which were downregulated. Additionally, seven differentially expressed genes were related to ion transport. Through gene co-expression analysis combined with promoter region structure analysis, 11 transcription factors (from MYB, AP2/ERF, C2C2-dof) were found to regulate the expression of 10 genes related to photosynthetic carbon assimilation. Additionally, five transcription factors regulate the expression of two malate transporter protein-related genes (from LOB, zf-HD, C2C2-Dof, etc.), five transcription factors regulate the expression of two metal ion transporter protein-related genes (from MYB, zf-HD, C2C2-Dof), five transcription factors regulate the expression of two chloride channel protein-related genes (from MYB, bZIP, AP2/ERF), and two transcription factors regulate the expression of one Annexin-related gene (from NAC, MYB). This study provides a theoretical foundation for further research on the molecular regulation of guard cells and offers a molecular basis for enhancing drought resistance in oats.

Abstract Background Hospital operation assistant (HOA) plays an important role in promoting the operation effectiveness and efficiency of hospital. China, as a resource-poor country, urgently needs to train HOA talent. The purpose of this study is to construct and validate a competency model for HOA, which can be used as a tool to select and train HOAs. Methods Basic competency items were first constructed through literature review combined with the job analysis of HOA. Then, a questionnaire survey conducted on more than 300 hospital operation management-related staff was used to assess the importance of competency items. Exploratory factor analysis, structural equation model and second-order confirmatory factor analysis were used to construct and validate the competency model of HOA. Results A total of 23 items were identified as critical to HOA capability, which were further divided into three factors: professional skills, professional knowledge and personality traits. The structural equation model showed that the standardized path coefficients of the three factors were 0.86, 0.82 and 0.98. The competency model passed strict fitting effect tests in several aspects, including root-mean-square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.077 ( 0.900) and Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) = 0.918 (> 0.900), which showed that the fitting validity of the model was ideal. The composite reliability (CR), average variance extracted (AVE) and correlation coefficients of all factors were within the standard range, which showed that the construction validity and discrimination validity of the model were ideal. Conclusion Our study indicates that the competency model of HOA is an instrument with appropriate fit validity, construct validity and discriminant validity, which can provide criteria for selecting and training HOAs.

Bone defects induced by trauma, infection, and tumors present a significant challenge for treatment in clinical trials. Biomaterial-based tissue engineering strategy has shown great promise in bone defect repair. However, multiple functions inherent in the extracellular matrix (ECM) are rarely covered in the design of scaffold materials associated with bone grafting procedures. These deficiencies significantly limit its potential application in pathologic bone defect therapy. In this work, we constructed a hydrogel scaffold mimicking the dynamic features of ECM with the combination of antimicrobial and osteogenic capabilities as well, to investigate its applications in the therapy of infected radial defects. The hydrogel scaffold enables not only minimally invasive implantation but also adaptability and adhesion to irregular defect shapes. Both in vitro and in vivo assays have indicated that the hydrogel scaffold could rapidly eradicate bacteria, restore the infection-induced localized inflammatory microenvironment. Further loading osteogenic growth peptide (OGP) to recruit stem cells promotes osteogenic differentiation and ultimately enhances bone regeneration in the defect region. In summary, our work indicated that hydrogels with ECM-related inherent bioactivities and dynamic inner structures represent a feasible solution as a tissue bionic substitute for the therapy of infected bone defects.

Light as a source of information regulates morphological and physiological processes of fungi, including development, primary and secondary metabolism, or the circadian rhythm. Light signaling in fungi depends on photoreceptors and downstream components that amplify the signal to govern the expression of an array of genes. Here, we investigated the effects of red and far-red light in the mycoparasite Trichoderma guizhouense on its mycoparasitic potential. We show that the invasion strategy of T. guizhouense depends on the attacked species and that red and far-red light increased aerial hyphal growth and led to faster overgrowth or invasion of the colonies. Molecular experiments and transcriptome analyses revealed that red and far-red light are sensed by phytochrome FPH1 and further transmitted by the downstream MAPK HOG pathway and the bZIP transcription factor ATF1. Overexpression of the red- and far-red light-induced fluffy gene fluG in the dark resulted in abundant aerial hyphae formation and thereby improvement of its antagonistic ability against phytopathogenic fungi. Hence, light-induced fluG expression is important for the mycoparasitic interaction. The increased aggressiveness of fluG-overexpressing strains was phenocopied by four random mutants obtained after UV mutagenesis. Therefore, aerial hyphae formation appears to be a trait for the antagonistic potential of T. guizhouense.

Improving crop water productivity (WP) in the face of drought conditions and optimizing water allocation for irrigated crops are critical steps toward mitigating the challenges associated with agricultural water use. To investigate the effects of regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) at different growth stages on maize yield and WP, a 4-year field experiment was conducted on spring maize under film drip irrigation from 2016 to 2019 in an arid region of northwest China. RDI significantly reduced plant height, leaf area index (LAI) and dry matter accumulation (DM). Notably, the moderate RDI treatment, denoted as 65/80ET (before and after ''/'' represent the irrigation volume relative to fully irrigation in the late vegetative and reproductive growth stages, respectively), reduced crop water consumption. This reduction was accompanied by the maintenance of relatively high grain yield and a significant increase in the harvest index, thereby resulting in a marked improvement in WP. In summary, the results of this study indicate that the 65/80ET treatment can effectively stabilize yield while improving efficiency. As such, it can be considered a viable RDI strategy for achieving water-saving, yield stability and enhanced efficiency in maize production.

In this paper, we demonstrated an efficient degenerate middle infrared (mid-IR) ZGP-OPO that is pumped by an electro-optically Q-switched diode-pumped Tm:YAP laser. The Tm:YAP laser, operating at a repetition rate of 1 kHz, produced a peak pulse energy of 9.66 mJ at 1.94 μm and a minimum pulse width of 25 ns. Utilizing the Tm:YAP laser as the pump source, a peak average output power of 3.14 W at 3.88 μm was achieved in the degenerate ZGP-OPO with an incident Tm power of 9.4 W, resulting in a slope efficiency of 62.7% and an optical conversion efficiency of 33.4%. The minimum pulse width was measured at 21 ns, leading to a peak power of 149.5 kW. Additionally, the beam quality factor of the degenerate mid-IR ZGP-OPO was evaluated to be approximately 2.7 at the maximum output power level.

Enhancing the spatial and temporal coordination between soil water and roots is very important for crop growth. The vertical distribution and relationship between soil water and root are however poorly understood during maize growth under different soil water conditions. In this study, two maize hybrids ZD958 and FM985 were treated with drip irrigation (DI), flood irrigation (FI), and rainfed (RF) in two–year field experiment as well as with irrigation at 0–30 (TI), 30–60 (MI), 60–90 (BI), 0–90 cm soil layers (AI) and no irrigation in three–year tube experiment. In field experiment, DI and FI both increased root dry weight, root length density (RLD), and the proportion of coarse root length at different soil layers relative to RF. DI increased grain yield by 10.0% in FM985 and by 10.8% in ZD958 compared with FI. Both total root and fine root length were greater in DI than in FI, which increased the nitrogen and water use efficiency and yield. In the tube experiment, irrigation at different soil layers increased root dry weight, RLD and the proportion of coarse root length compared with no irrigation, with AI increasing the most. FM985 distributed more roots at the 0–30 cm soil layer than ZD958. Grain yields were positively correlated with the RLD in each soil layer and coarse root proportion at the upper layer (r=0.493** in field experiment and r=426** in tube experiment) but negatively correlated with root–shoot ratio (r=−0.793** in field experiment and r=−670** in tube experiment) at maturity stage. In conclusion, there is a large potential to improve maize yield by enhancing the spatial coordination between root distribution and soil water movement.

Drought or/and salinity stress significantly impact maize water use and production. However, comprehensive investigations into the genotype × environment interactions (water or/and salinity) on maize growth, water use, and water productivity (WP) and the physiological controlling factors governing maize production remain lacking. In the present study, we rigorously investigated the effect of water or/and salinity on leaf physiological and morphological characteristics, evapotranspiration (ET), yield and its components (kernel number, KN; thousand kernel weight, TKW) for two genotypes (XY335 and ZD958) over two years, and revealed the mechanisms of yield response to these traits. We found that stomatal conductance (gs) and net photosynthesis rate (A), aboveground biomass (AGB), ET, and KN were higher in XY335 compared to those in ZD958 in both years. Water and salinity stress reduced gs, A, leaf area (LA), the fraction of canopy radiation interception (fPAR), AGB, ET, yield, and KN, while increasing intrinsic water use efficiency. Simultaneous water and salinity stress exhibited an antagonistic effect on WP. Yield was modulated by both ET and yield components. ET was mainly regulated by LA, and only KN was driven by A under salt-free condition. However, under salinity stress, ET was jointly regulated by gs and fPAR, and both gs and A affected KN and TKW. Importantly, a decrease in ET induced by stress did not always lead to yield reduction, provided the reduction remained below about 20% of the maximum value. Thus, mildly regulated deficit irrigation or adapting to low-concentration soil salinity stress was preferable for sustaining yield and improving WP. Nevertheless, a combination of both approaches diminished the water-saving benefits of individual farmland management practices. This study filled the knowledge gap regarding the physiological mechanisms of driving yield variations and offered valuable insights for effective crop water management in drought and soil-salinized regions.

Drought and soil salinization are threatening maize production in Northwest China, and climate change is exacerbating water shortages. The objective of this study is to explore the mechanisms underlying spring maize yield and water use efficiency under water deficit and salt stress, to coordinate water conservation and maize production. A three-year field trial was conducted with two water levels (full irrigation and deficit irrigation) and two salt levels (0.65‰ and 2‰) using two maize genotypes (ZD958 and XY335). Leaf area, leaf photosynthesis, dry matter accumulation, floret number, grain abortion, ear characteristics and water use efficiency were evaluated. Water, salt and their combined stress significantly decreased the grain yield by 7.3%, 20.5%, and 38.7%, respectively, 93.6% of which was explained by grain number depending on spikelet differentiation. Grain abortion was identified as the primary reason for maize yield reduction under water and salt stress. The reduction in total biomass, rather than biomass allocation suppressed spikelet differentiation under water and salt stress. Water or salt single stress improved water use efficiency (3.7%–17.5%) by reducing evaporation compared with no stress. Furthermore, water and salt combined stress significantly decreased maize productivity leading to reduction in water use efficiency. Taken together, reducing grain abortion to maintain grain number is the key to alleviate maize yield loss and improve water use efficiency under water and salt stress.

Abstract Background It is believed that negative postoperative behavioral changes (NPOBC) is associated with negative perioperative outcomes in children. The importance of development of a predictive model of NPOBC was noted. This study aims to identify potential risk factors develop a nomogram to predict NPOBC on postoperative day 3 based on a prospective cohort. Methods A prospective observational study was conducted on children(American Society of Anesthesiologists I ~ III) aged 2 ~ 12 years who underwent selective surgery under general anesthesia between September 2022 and February 2023. The patient’s clinical data were analyzed. The method of measuring NPOBC is with the The Posthospital Behaviour Questionnaire (PHBQ), and all of children remained hospitalized at the time of assessment. The enrolled patients were categorized into the NPOBC group and the non-NPOBC group according to if children developed NPOBC on postoperative day 3. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify independent risk factors and develop the nomogram to predict NPOBC. Internal validation was performed using the parametric bootstrapping method. Results One hundred ninety-two patients were enrolled in the study, 44.8% (86/192 patients) of children developed NPOBC on postoperative day 3. Objective: To investigate and analyse the quality of life (QoL) of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing maintenance haemodialysis (MHD), explore influencing factors and provide a basis for formulating corresponding intervention measures. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 190 patients with CKD undergoing MHD in hospital between March 2021 and March 2022. A general information questionnaire and the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form were used to collect data. The QoL scores of patients with CKD undergoing MHD were calculated and compared by t-test and analysis of variance. Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyse the correlation between QoL scores and related factors. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was used to screen the influencing factors of QoL. Results: The total score of QoL of patients with CKD undergoing MHD was 59.32 ± 11.67, and the scores of physical component summary, mental component summary and kidney disease component summary were 50.21 ± 9.32, 48.76 ± 10.81 and 66.34 ± 12.76, respectively.
