Apple (Malus domestica, Borkh.) is one of the four largest fruits in the world. Freezing damage during the flowering period of apples is one of the main factors leading to the reduction or even extinction of apple production. Molecular breeding of hardy apples is a good solution to these problems. However, the current screening of cold tolerance genes still needs to be resolved. Therefore, in this article, the transcriptome detection and cold tolerance gene screening during the cold adaptation process of apple were studied in order to obtain potential cold-resistant genes. Herein, two high-quality apple tree species (Malus robusta Rehd and M. domestica) were used for cold adaptation experiments and studied under different low-temperature stress conditions (0, −2 and −4°C). The antioxidant levels of two apple flower tissues were tested, and the transcriptome of the flowers after cold culture was tested by next-generation sequencing technology. Antioxidant test results show that the elimination of peroxides in M. robusta Rehd and the adjustment of the expression of antioxidant enzymes promote the cold resistance of this variety of apples. Functional enrichment found that the expression of enzyme activity, cell wall and cell membrane structure, glucose metabolism/gluconeogenesis, and signal transmission are the main biological processes that affect the differences in the cold resistance characteristics of the two apples. In addition, three potential cold-resistant genes AtERF4, RuBisCO activase 1, and an unknown gene (ID: MD09G1075000) were screened. The aim of this study was to identify the aromatic compounds present in different apple varieties and to gain insights into the changes in the aromatic compounds during ripening. Three apple varieties ("Red Astrachan", "Ning Qiu", and "Golden Delicious") at different stages of ripening were selected for this study; their peel and pulp were analyzed via headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME)–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS), and 30 volatile compounds were identified. The samples' differences were analyzed using heat map cluster analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), and an independent samples t-test. The results showed that the content of aromatic compounds in the peel was higher than that in the pulp. The relative content of esters in the aromatic compounds of the three apple varieties followed the order of pulp > peel and "Ning Qiu" > "Golden Delicious" > "Red Astrachan". This suggests that "Ning Qiu" combines the advantages of its parents in terms of its aroma content. The highest concentrations of aroma compounds in "Red Astrachan" and "Ning Qiu" accumulate before the ripening stage, and care should be taken to choose an appropriate harvesting time according to the different needs during production. The main compounds of "Red Astrachan" are aldehydes and C8 esters, while those of "Ning Qiu" and "Golden Delicious" are alkenes and esters. After analyzing the relative odor activity values (rOAVs) of key volatile compounds and their aroma descriptors during the harvest period, acetic acid pentyl ester, butanoic acid hexyl ester, hexanoic acid hexyl ester, and 2-ethyl-1-Hexanol were found to contribute the most to the overall flavor of the peel and pulp. "Ning Qiu" combines the parental advantages of the concentrated peel of "Red Astrachan" and the astringent pulp of "Golden Delicious", with compounds in its composition that give a pleasing aroma. Mature "Ning Qiu" fruits have a more intense aroma and fruity flavor. The development of flavor-specific varieties has provided the theoretical basis for future research in molecular hybridization, molecular-assisted breeding, and the molecular biology of apple flavor synthesis and metabolism. With the development of China's economy entering a new stage, the quality of life, which centers on the well-being of residents, provides an essential hand in promoting the transformation of the regional economy from high-speed development to high-quality development. Based on a panel threshold regression model, we examine in this paper whether quality of life helps regional economies realize developmental convergence. The research shows that: (1) The quality of life overall can promote regional economic development and passes the series test with relatively robust results. (2) The quality of life has a non-linear effect on regional economic growth, which is mainly manifested in the fact that the impact is more significant in regions with higher levels of quality of life and weaker in regions with lagging quality of life and may widen the gap between regions at the same time. (3) We categorize the study regions to test further regional heterogeneity based on regional location and development status. At the Quality of Life Level-I regions, their influence on economic development has a more substantial pulling effect. Therefore, each region should seize the strategic opportunity to improve the quality of life, focus on the balanced development of the quality of life, strengthen policy support and social security, and strive to promote the coordinated development of China's regional economy.
