Abstract Glycol sidechains are often used to enhance the performance of organic photoconversion and electrochemical devices. Herein, we study their effects on electronic states and electronic properties. We find that polymer glycolation not only induces more disordered packing, but also results in a higher reorganisation energy due to more localised π-electron density. Transient absorption spectroscopy and femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy are utilised to monitor the structural relaxation dynamics coupled to the excited state formation upon photoexcitation. Singlet excitons are initially formed, followed by polaron pair formation. The associated structural relaxation slows down in glycolated polymers (5 ps vs. 1.25 ps for alkylated), consistent with larger reorganisation energy. This slower vibrational relaxation is found to drive ultrafast formation of the polaron pair state (5 ps vs. 10 ps for alkylated). These results provide key experimental evidence demonstrating the impact of molecular structure on electronic state formation driven by strong vibrational coupling.

Abstract In this study, high-performance organic photodetectors are presented which utilize a pristine chlorinated subphthalocyanine photoactive layer. Optical and optoelectronic analyses indicate that the device photocurrent is primarily generated through direct charge generation within the chlorinated subphthalocyanine layer, rather than exciton separation at layer interfaces. Molecular modelling suggests that this direct charge generation is facilitated by chlorinated subphthalocyanine high octupole moment (−80 DÅ2), which generates a 200 meV shift in molecular energetics. Increasing the thickness of chlorinated subphthalocyanine leads to faster response time, correlated with a decrease in trap density. Notably, photodetectors with a 50 nm thick chlorinated subphthalocyanine photoactive layer exhibit detectivities approaching 1013 Jones, with a dark current below 10−7 A cm−2 up to −5 V. Based on these findings, we conclude that high octupole moment molecular semiconductors are promising materials for high-performance organic photodetectors employing single-component photoactive layer.

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) show great promise for both outdoor and indoor applications. However, there remains a lack of understanding around the stability of OPVs, particularly for indoor applications. In this work, the photostability of the poly[(thiophene)‐alt‐(6,7‐difluoro‐2‐(2‐hexyldecyloxy)quinoxaline)]:2,2′‐((2Z,2′Z)‐((4,4,9,9‐tetrahexyl‐4,9‐dihydro‐s‐indaceno[1,2‐b:5,6‐b′]dithiophene‐2,7‐diyl)bis(methanylylidene))bis(3‐oxo‐2,3‐dihydro‐1H‐indene‐2,1‐diylidene))dimalononitrile blend is investigated for both outdoor and indoor applications. Photostability is found to vary drastically with illumination intensity. Devices under high‐intensity white light‐emitting diode (LED) illumination, with their short‐circuit current density (JSC) matching JSC–EQE for AM1.5 G illumination, lose 42% of their initial performance after 30 days of illumination. Contrastingly, after almost 47 days of illumination devices under 1000 lux white LED illumination show no loss in performance. The poor photostability under 1 sun illumination is linked to the poor photostability of IDIC. Through Raman spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, IDIC is found to suffer from photoisomerization, which detrimentally impacts light absorption and carrier extraction. In this work, it is highlighted that under low light levels, the requirement of intrinsic material photostability may be less stringent.

Non-fullerene acceptors with large quadrupole moments strongly affect thin-film energetics. Here, the authors show a significant energetic shift (>200 meV) of Y6 upon changing its orientation from face-on to more edge-on using different solvents and its critical impact on organic photovoltaics.

Abstract Among the various photoanode materials investigated for photoelectrochemical water splitting cells, TiO2 stands out due to its abundance, stability, and favorable valence band edge for water oxidation. In this study, the importance of introducing and combining oxygen and titanium vacancy point defects in anatase TiO2 photoanodes to improve their performance is unveiled, achieving a photocurrent density of 0.73 (±0.015) mA cm−2 at +1.23 VRHE under 100 mW cm−2 of simulated sunlight or 26.4 mA cm−2 at +1.23 VRHE under 100 mW cm−2 of 365 nm light. The characterization by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, surface photovoltage, and electron paramagnetic resonance demonstrates that these oxygen and titanium vacancies can have both collective and localized positive effects on the material, leading to a narrowing of the bandgap, an increase in donor density, and an increase in hydroxyl groups on the surface of TiO2. These result in enhanced light absorption, conductivity, and photovoltage, as well as a more negative flat‐band potential and increase in hole flux to the semiconductor–electrolyte interface. These findings provide valuable insights into the role of point defects in modulating the properties of TiO2 and have important implications for the development of high‐performance TiO2‐based devices.

(1) Introduction: The laparoscopic approach to low pelvic tumors is challenging and hindered by suboptimal tumor visualization and dissection, with possible oncological failure. Stereotactic navigation provides real-time image guidance that may optimize safety, accuracy, and precision when dissecting challenging low pelvic tumors. (2) Methods: Preoperative CT images were acquired with eight skin-fixed fiducials and loaded into a navigation system. A patient tracker was mounted on the bed side. Patient-to-image paired point registration was performed, and an instrument tracker was mounted on a laparoscopic instrument and calibrated for instrument tracking. Surgical operations were performed with real-time stereotactic navigation assistance. (3) Results: Three patients underwent stereotactic navigation surgery. Fiducial registration errors were good to optimal (±1.9, ±3.4, and ±3.4 mm). Lesions were easily identified and targeted with real-time navigation. Surgeries were uneventful. Histopathology examinations identified one retro-rectal schwannoma, one lateral pelvic recurrence from rectal adenocarcinoma, and one advanced anal canal carcinoma. No navigation-related complications, readmissions, or postoperative mortalities were observed. (4) Conclusions: The application of laparoscopic stereotactic navigation surgery to complex low pelvic tumors is feasible and could impact oncological surgical quality by enabling tumor targeting and ensuring resection margins. Further wider series are needed to confirm stereotactic navigation’s impact on challenging low pelvic tumors.

Abstract With the rapid development of perovskite solar cells, reducing losses in open‐circuit voltage (Voc) is a key issue in efforts to further improve device performance. Here it is focused on investigating the correlation between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of device hole transport layers (HTLs) and device Voc. To achieve this, structurally similar HTL materials with comparable optical band gaps and doping levels, but distinctly different HOMO levels are employed. Using light‐intensity dependent Voc and photoluminescence measurements significant differences in the behavior of devices employing the two HTLs are highlighted. Light‐induced increase of quasi‐Fermi level splitting (ΔEF) in the perovskite layer results in interfacial quasi‐Fermi level bending required to align with the HOMO level of the HTL, resulting in the Voc measured at the contacts being smaller than the ΔEF in the perovskite. It is concluded that minimizing the energetic offset between HTLs and the perovskite active layer is of great importance to reduce non‐radiative recombination losses in perovskite solar cells with high Voc values that approach the radiative limit.

Abstract This paper presented a systematic approach to electro-textile pressure sensors dependent on interdigitated capacitors (IDCs) printed on fabric. In this study, we proposed a highly sensitive, broad-range pressure sensor based on the combination of porous Ecoflex, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and interdigitated electrodes. Firstly, characterizations of the interdigitated capacitor using silver ink on Cotton and Polyester fabric were completed by precision LCR meter across the frequency range from 1 to 300 kHz. The effect of the fabric on the performance of sensor sensitivity was included. Secondly, estimating and optimizing the volume fraction of CNTs and air gaps on the properties of composites are included. The presence of volume fraction CNTs enhanced the bond strength of composites and improved sensor deformability. The robustness of the presented sensor was demonstrated by testing under high pressure at 400 kPa for more than 20,000 cycles. Thirdly, the combination of CNTs and porous dielectric achieved a broad detection range (400 kPa) with a sensitivity range from 0.035 (at 400 kPa) to 0.15 $${\mathrm{KPa}}^{-1}$$ KPa - 1 (at 50 kPa). Finally, the Cotton and Polyester substrate comparison demonstrates that selecting a suitable dielectric substrate affects sensor sensitivity and signal output.

Abstract Herein, a new ternary strategy to fabricate efficient and photostable inverted organic photovoltaics (OPVs) is introduced by combining a bulk heterojunction (BHJ) blend and a fullerene self‐assembled monolayer (C60‐SAM). Time‐of‐flight secondary‐ion mass spectrometry ‐ analysis reveals that the ternary blend is vertically phase separated with the C60‐SAM at the bottom and the BHJ on top. The average power conversion efficiency ‐ of OPVs based on the ternary system is improved from 14.9% to 15.6% by C60‐SAM addition, mostly due to increased current density (Jsc) and fill factor ‐. It is found that the C60‐SAM encourages the BHJ to make more face‐on molecular orientation because grazing incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering ‐ data show an increased face‐on/edge‐on orientation ratio in the ternary blend. Light‐intensity dependent Jsc data and charge carrier lifetime analysis indicate suppressed bimolecular recombination and a longer charge carrier lifetime in the ternary system, resulting in the enhancement of OPV performance. Moreover, it is demonstrated that device photostability in the ternary blend is enhanced due to the vertically self‐assembled C60‐SAM that successfully passivates the ZnO surface and protects BHJ layer from the UV‐induced photocatalytic reactions of the ZnO. These results suggest a new perspective to improve both performance and photostability of OPVs using a facial ternary method.

This study aimed to assess recurrence patterns and related risk factors following curative resection of colorectal cancer (CRC). This retrospective observational study was conducted at a tertiary care center, including 2622 patients with stage I–III CRC who underwent curative resection between 2008 and 2018. Hazard rates of recurrence were calculated using a hazard function. The primary outcome was the peak recurrence time after curative resection and secondary outcomes were prognostic factors associated with recurrence. Over a median follow-up period of 53 months, the overall, locoregional and systemic recurrence rates were 8.9%, 0.7%, and 8.5%, respectively. Recurrence rates were significantly higher for rectal cancer (14.9% overall, 4.4% locoregionally, and 12.3% systemically) than for colon cancer (all p < 0.001). The peak recurrence time was 11 months, with variations in hazard rates and curves depending on the tumor location, stage, and risk factors. Patients with AL or CRM involvement exhibited a distinct pattern, with a high hazard rate in the early postoperative period. Understanding these recurrence patterns and risk factors is crucial for establishing effective postoperative surveillance strategies. Our findings suggested that short-interval surveillance should be considered during the first 2 years post-surgery, particularly for high-risk patients who should receive early attention.

Plant-derived exosomes can exert therapeutic effects against various dermatological conditions. Several studies have demonstrated that plant-derived exosomes can have positive effects on the skin, preventing aging, hyperpigmentation, and hair loss. In this study, the protective effects of Iris germanica L. rhizome-derived exosomes (Iris-exosomes) on oxidative-stress-induced cellular dysfunction were investigated in human epidermal keratinocytes (nHEKs). Iris-exosomes with a diameter range of 100–300 nm were detected. In the cytotoxicity assay, Iris-exosomes with up to 107 particles per milliliter were found to possess no cytotoxicity, and we recovered H2O2-induced cell viability loss. In nHEKs, H2O2-induced ROS levels were significantly reduced using Iris-exosomes and additionally associated with increases in antioxidant enzyme transcription. The H2O2-induced SA-β-gal-positive nHEKs were decreased using Iris-exosomes; these effects correlate with the changed levels of cell cycle arrest marker p21. Furthermore, the H2O2-induced loss of in vitro wound-healing properties and early detection of keratin 1 and 10—keratinization markers—were restored to control levels using Iris-exosomes. Altogether, these results indicate the possibility that Iris-exosomes exert antioxidant and anti-senescence effects in order to protect against oxidative-stress-induced cellular dysfunction in nHEKs.

Understanding the charge trapping mechanism in organic semiconductors is crucial to design molecules for high-performance organic photodetectors. Labanti et al. systematically investigate the impact of donor molecular structure on the energetic disorder that affects both shallow and deep trap formation.

Purpose Colorectal cancer (CRC) occurs in all age groups, and the application of treatment may vary according to age. The study was designed to identify the characteristics of CRC by age. Methods A total of 4,326 patients undergoing primary resection for CRC from September 2006 to July 2019 were reviewed. Patient and tumor characteristics, operative and postoperative data, and oncologic outcome were compared Results Patients aged 60 to 69 years comprised the largest age group (29.7%), followed by those aged 50 to 59 and 70 to 79 (24.5% and 23.9%, respectively). Rectal cancer was common in all age groups, but right-sided colon cancer tended to be more frequent in older patients. In very elderly patients, there were significant numbers of emergency surgeries, and the frequencies of open surgery and permanent stoma were greater. In contrast, total abdominal colectomy or total proctocolectomy was performed frequently in patients in their teens and twenties. The elderly patients showed more advanced tumor stages and postoperative ileus. The incidence of adjuvant treatment was low in elderly patients, who also had shorter follow-up periods. Summary: Background: D3 lymph node dissection is becoming the standard procedure for the treatment of advanced right colon cancer and has shown increasing evidence of its oncologic benefit. However, a clear indication for its application is lacking and data on this topic is unsatisfactory. Thus, the necessity for D3 lymph node dissection in clinical stage I right colon cancer remains controversial. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from clinical stage I right colon cancer patients who underwent radical surgery at three hospitals of Korea university medical center between January 2015 and June 2018. We compared surgical complications and short-term oncologic outcomes between D2 and D3 lymph node dissections in these patients. Results: Among 512 patients, 122 (23.8%) were clinical stage I. Of these, 88 and 34 patients received D2 and D3 lymph node dissection, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in clinicopathologic variables and surgical outcomes between the two groups. Upstaging occurred in 16 patients (47.1%) in the D3 group and 23 patients (26.1%) in the D2 group. There were four recurrences in the D2 group but no recurrence in the D3 group. Log-rank tests showed no statistically significant difference in disease-free survival rates between the two groups (p = 0.210). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in disease-free survival rates between D2 and D3 lymph node dissection in clinical stage I right colon cancer patients. However, recurrence occurred in the D2 group. Efforts to improve the accuracy of clinical staging are required and more studies with better quality are needed.

Thermally activated delayed fluorescence organic light-emitting diodes (TADF-OLEDs) rely on high triplet energy interlayers to confine excitons, which results in reduced performance. Here, the authors report high-performance blue TADF-OLEDs with below bandgap electroluminescence.

This study presents a respiration sensor that is dependent on a parallel capacitor, including connection lines and electrodes embroidered on textiles. First, characterizations of the respiration capacitor using a silver thread, including a combination of porous Eco-flex simulating air in the lungs due to respiration, were evaluated using an LCR meter. Second, the effects of air gaps on the detection of respiration motions according to the change in electrode distance under pressure were presented. The data values were measured from 1 to 300 kHz using an LCR meter and dielectric test fixture. Third, actual breathing was examined in four patterns: normal breathing, deep breathing, hyperventilation, and apnea. The test was performed after fabricating a clothing-type breathing sensor. Finally, the change in capacitance for actual respiration was determined by wearing a clothing-type respiration sensor based on the data collected. The effectiveness of the respiration sensor was demonstrated by measuring it to discern all waveforms, cycles, and ranges associated with the breathing pattern.

Though single-material organic solar cells are attractive for next-generation photovoltaic technologies, designing new materials with ideal properties remains a challenge. Here, the authors report the use of orientation-dependent molecular electrostatics to realise efficient homojunction devices.

Abstract Background The introduction of complete mesocolic excision (CME) with central vascular ligation (CVL) for right-sided colon cancer has improved the oncologic outcomes. Recently, we have introduced a modified CME (mCME) procedure that keeps the same principles as the originally described CME but with a more tailored approach. Some retrospective studies have reported the favourable oncologic outcomes of laparoscopic mCME for right-sided colon cancer; however, no prospective multicentre study has yet been conducted. Methods This study is a multi-institutional, prospective, single-arm study evaluating the oncologic outcomes of laparoscopic mCME for adenocarcinoma arising from the right side of the colon. A total of 250 patients will be recruited from five tertiary referral centres in South Korea. The primary outcome of this study is 3-year disease-free survival. Secondary outcome measures include 3-year overall survival, incidence of surgical complications, completeness of mCME, and distribution of metastatic lymph nodes. The quality of laparoscopic mCME will be assessed on the basis of photographs of the surgical specimen and the operation field after the completion of lymph node dissection. Discussion This is a prospective multicentre study to evaluate the oncologic outcomes of laparoscopic mCME for right-sided colon cancer. To the best of our knowledge, this will be the first study to prospectively and objectively assess the quality of laparoscopic mCME. The results will provide more evidence about oncologic outcomes with respect to the quality of laparoscopic mCME in right-sided colon cancer. The power conversion efficiencies of most organic solar cells roll off quickly with thickness more than 100 nm. Here, Wu et al. show that avoiding excessive charge accumulation in the intra-bandgap tail states is vital to maintain the photocurrent generation at high thickness.

Many studies have been conducted to develop electronic skin (e-skin) and flexible wearable textiles which transform into actual “skin”, using different approaches. Moreover, many reports have investigated self-healing materials, multifunctional sensors, etc. This study presents a systematic approach to embroidery pressure sensors dependent on interdigitated capacitors (IDCs), for applications surrounding intelligent wearable devices, robots, and e-skins. The method proposed a broad range of highly sensitive pressure sensors based on porous Ecoflex, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and interdigitated electrodes. Firstly, characterizations of ICDs embroidering on a cotton fabric using silver conductive thread are evaluated by a precision LCR meter throughout the frequency range from 1 kHz to 300 kHz. The effect of thread density on the performance of embroidered sensors is included. Secondly, the 16451B dielectric test fixture from Keysight is utilized to evaluate the composite samples’ dielectric constant accurately. The effect of frequency on sensor performance was evaluated to consider the influence of the dielectric constant as a function of the capacitance change. This study shows that the lower the frequency, the higher the sensitivity, but at the same time, it also leads to instability in the sensor’s operation. Thirdly, assessing the volume fraction of CNTs on composites’ properties is enclosed. The presence of volume portion CNTs upgrades the bond strength of composites and further develops sensor deformability. Solution-processed organic small molecule solar cells (SMSCs) have achieved efficiency over 11%. However, very few studies have focused on their stability under illumination and the origin of the degradation during the so-called burn-in period. Here, we studied the burn-in period of a solution-processed SMSC using benzodithiophene terthiophene rhodamine:[6,6]-phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl ester (BTR:PC71BM) with increasing solvent vapour annealing time applied to the active layer, controlling the crystallisation of the BTR phase. We find that the burn-in behaviour is strongly correlated to the crystallinity of BTR. To look at the possible degradation mechanisms, we studied the fresh and photo-aged blend films with grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, UV–vis absorbance, Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Although the crystallinity of BTR affects the performance drop during the burn-in period, the degradation is found not to originate from the crystallinity changes of the BTR phase, but correlates with changes in molecular conformation – rotation of the thiophene side chains, as resolved by Raman spectroscopy which could be correlated to slight photobleaching and changes in PL spectra.

Flexible strain sensors are receiving a great deal of interest owing to their prospective applications in monitoring various human activities. Among various efforts to enhance the sensitivity of strain sensors, pre-crack generation has been well explored for elastic polymers but rarely on textile substrates. Herein, a highly sensitive textile-based strain sensor was fabricated via a dip-coat-stretch approach: a polyester woven elastic band was dipped into ink containing single-walled carbon nanotubes coated with silver paste and pre-stretched to generate prebuilt cracks on the surface. Our sensor demonstrated outstanding sensitivity (a gauge factor of up to 3550 within a strain range of 1.5–5%), high stability and durability, and low hysteresis. The high performance of this sensor is attributable to the excellent elasticity and woven structure of the fabric substrate, effectively generating and propagating the prebuilt cracks. The strain sensor integrated into firefighting gloves detected detailed finger angles and cyclic finger motions, demonstrating its capability for subtle human motion monitoring. It is also noteworthy that this novel strategy is a very quick, straightforward, and scalable method of fabricating strain sensors, which is extremely beneficial for practical applications.

The microstructure of the active blend layer has been shown to be a critically important factor in the performance of organic solar devices. Block copolymers provide a potentially interesting avenue for controlling this active layer microstructure in solar cell blends. Here we explore the impact of backbone fluorination in block copolymers of poly(3-octyl-4-fluorothiophene)s and poly(3-octylthiophene) (F-P3OT-b-P3OT). Two block co-polymers with varying block lengths were prepared via sequential monomer addition under Kumada catalyst transfer polymerisation (KCTP) conditions. We compare the behavior of the block copolymer to that of the corresponding homopolymer blends. In both types of system, we find the fluorinated segments tend to dominate the UV–visible absorption and molecular vibrational spectral features, as well as the thermal behavior. In the block copolymer case, non-fluorinated segments appear to slightly frustrate the aggregation of the more fluorinated block. However, in situ temperature dependent Raman spectroscopy shows that the intramolecular order is more thermally stable in the block copolymer than in the corresponding blend, suggesting that such materials may be interesting for enhanced thermal stability of organic photovoltaic active layers based on similar systems.

Indium tin oxide (ITO) is commonly used as the transparent bottom electrode for organic solar cells. However, it is known that the cost of the ITO is quite high due to the indium element, and in some studies ITO coated glass substrate is found to be the most expensive component of device fabrication. Moreover, indium migration from ITO can cause stability issues in organic solar cells. Nevertheless, the use of ITO as the bottom electrode is still dominating in the field. Here, we explore the possibility of using fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) as an alternative to ITO for the bottom electrode of organic solar cells particularly on semi-transparent cells. We present side-by-side comparisons on their optical, morphological and device properties and suggest that FTO could be more suitable than ITO as the bottom electrode for glass substrate based organic photovoltaic devices.

Conducting polymer scaffolds combine the soft-porous structures of scaffolds with the electrical properties of conducting polymers. In most cases, such functional systems are developed by combining an insulating scaffold matrix with electrically conducting materials in a 3D hybrid network. However, issues arising from the poor electronic properties of such hybrid systems, hinder their application in many areas. This work reports on the design of a 3D electroactive scaffold, which is free of an insulating matrix. These 3D polymer constructs comprise of a water soluble conducting polymer (PEDOT:PSS) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The insertion of the MWCNTs in the 3D polymer matrix directly contributes to the electron transport efficiency, resulting in a 7-fold decrease in resistivity values. The distribution of CNTs, as characterized by SEM and Raman spectroscopy, further define the micro- and nano-structural topography while providing active sites for protein attachment, thereby rendering the system suitable for biological/sensing applications. The resulting scaffolds, combine high porosity, mechanical stability and excellent conducting properties, thus can be suitable for a variety of applications ranging from tissue engineering and biomedical devices to (bio-) energy storage.

Abstract Background There is an ongoing controversy regarding whether single-occupancy rooms are superior to multiple-occupancy rooms in terms of infection prevention. We investigated whether treatment in a multiple-occupancy room is associated with an increased incidence of nosocomial coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) compared with treatment in a single-occupancy room. Methods In this retrospective cohort study, every hospitalization period of adult patients aged ≥ 18 years at a tertiary hospital in Korea from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, was analyzed. If COVID-19 was diagnosed more than 5 days after hospitalization, the case was classified as nosocomial. We estimated the association between the number of patients per room and the risk of nosocomial COVID-19 using a Cox proportional hazards regression model. Results In total, 25,143 hospitalizations per room type were analyzed. The incidence rate of nosocomial COVID-19 increased according to the number of patients per room; it ranged from 3.05 to 38.64 cases per 10,000 patient-days between single- and 6-bed rooms, respectively. Additionally, the hazard ratios of nosocomial COVID-19 showed an increasing trend according to the number of patients per room, ranging from 0.14 (95% confidence interval 0.001–1.03) to 2.66 (95% confidence interval 1.60–4.85) between single- and 6-bed rooms, respectively. Conclusions We demonstrated that the incidence of nosocomial COVID-19 increased according to the number of patients per room. To reduce nosocomial infections by respiratory viruses, the use of multiple-occupancy rooms should be minimized.

This study sequenced the entire mitochondrial genome of Populus davidiana Dode. It was 779,361 bp in length, containing 33 protein-coding genes, 3 rRNA genes and 22 tRNA genes and 1 pseudogene, and its GC content was 44.8%. Phylogenetic analysis was conducted using 6 mitochondrial genomes from the Salicaceae and Euphorbiaceae families, resulting that P. davidiana Dode was closely related to Populus tremula and Populus tremula × Populus alba. These results will provide fundamental data for the evolutionary studies in Populus genus.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the movements of exchange rate and value of Korean firms, so-called foreign exchange rate exposure using newly devised model to find the strong evidence. I use weekly data on Korean Firms that are listed on Korea Stock Exchange (KSE) for the period from January 1997 to December 2000. I find that about 70% Korean Firms are actually exposed to Won-dollar exchange rate movement at 10% significance level and these results are substantially different from the previous empirical study where little statistical significance was found. In comparing the foreign exchange exposures with three different exchange rates, in Won-dollar and Won-yen exchange exposures, value of Korean firms is positively related to depreciation of Korean Won and negatively related to depreciation of Korean Won with Won-euro exchange exposure. With magnitude of three exposures, results can be interpreted that Dollar exposure seems to be the most significant among three foreign exchange exposures and Korean Firms' value is more sensitive to Won-dollar exchange rate. I also find that exchange exposure is strongly related to firm size and industry especially Electricity & Gas industry is most significantly related.

Hydnum is a genus of ectomycorrhizal fungi belonging to the Hydnaceae family. It is widely distributed across different regions of the world, including North America, Europe, and Asia; however, some of them showed disjunct distributions. In recent years, with the integration of molecular techniques, the taxonomy and classification of Hydnum have undergone several revisions and advancements. However, these changes have not yet been applied in the Republic of Korea. In this study, we conducted an integrated analysis combining the morphological and molecular analyses of 30 specimens collected over a period of approximately 10 years in the Republic of Korea. For molecular analysis, the sequence data of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nrLSU), and a portion of translation elongation factor 1-α (TEF1) were employed as molecular markers. Through this study, we identified eight species that had previously not been reported to occur in the Republic of Korea, including one new species, Hydnum paucispinum. A taxonomic key and detailed descriptions of the eight Hydnum species are provided in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
