This article deals with the measurement and evaluation of the circularity of the machine DMG MORI - DMU 50 using the measuring system Ballbar QC20-W, which can measure the circularity of the machine using circular interpolation. Furthermore, the system can evaluate machine errors or measurement errors. This can prevent a number of problems, such as financial losses, compliance with the required accuracy and adherence to order deadlines. All three planes of the machine tool were measured - XY, YZ and ZX. In each plane, accuracy (roundness deviations) was measured at three values of feed rate 1000, 1500 and 2000 m.min-1. Each measurement was evaluated and in the end the dependence in individual planes on the feed rate is given.

For years, companies’ management has been turning to proven techniques and tools to achieve even higher productivity. They hope for, if possible, all-inclusive, easy and efficient procedures to manage their production systems. In principle, this applies to all organizations, regardless of the sector or the company focus. Especially in industrial enterprises with different machines and equipment for production processes, the quantitative indicator "Overall Equipment Effectiveness" (OEE) has been used as a key indicator to monitor their efficiency and process performance in recent years. This indicator provides relatively simple information about the possibilities and utilization of machines and equipment as well as the quality achieved in the production processes. If the OEE indicator is determined correctly based on the available and correct data in a system, the processes can be better controlled, managed and improved. However, it is important to properly monitor (decode) the data and to understand them. The paper presents the potential but also the limits (obstacles) of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) on case studies in selected domestic enterprises in the Moravian-Silesian region.

Double strap lap adhesive joints between metal (AA 6061-T6) and composite (carbon/epoxy) laminates were fabricated and characterized based on strength. Hand layup methods were used to fabricate double strap match lap joints and double strap mismatch lap joints. These joints were compared for their strength under static and fatigue loadings. Fracture toughness (GIIC) was measured experimentally using tensile testing and validated with numerical simulations using the cohesive zone model (CZM) in ABAQUS/Standard. Fatigue life under tension-tension fluctuating sinusoidal loading was determined experimentally. Failure loads for both joints were in close relation, whereas the fatigue life of the double strap mismatch lap joint was longer than that of the double strap match lap joint. A cohesive dominating failure pattern was identified in tensile testing. During fatigue testing, it was observed that inhomogeneity (air bubble) in adhesive plays a negative role while the long time duration between two consecutive cycle spans has a positive effect on the life of joints. The finite element analysis technique was used to investigate the suitability of silver nanorods, spheres, ellipsoids and core-shell structures for the hyperthermia treatment of cancer. The temperature of the silver nanostructures was raised from 42 to 46 & DEG;C, in order to kill the cancerous cells. The time taken by the nanostructures to attain this temperature, with external source heating, was also estimated. The heat transfer module in COMSOL Multiphysics was used for the finite element analysis of hyperthermia, based on silver nanostructures. The thermal response of different shapes of silver nanostructures was evaluated by placing them inside the spherical domain of the tumor tissue. The proposed geometries were heated at different time intervals. Optimization of the geometries was performed to achieve the best treatment temperature. It was observed that silver nanorods quickly attain the desired temperature, as compared to other shapes. The silver nanorods achieved the highest temperature of 44.3 & DEG;C among all the analyzed geometries. Moreover, the central volume, used to identify the thermal response, was the maximum for the silver nano-ellipsoids. Thermal equilibrium in the treatment region was attained after 0.5 mu s of heating, which made these structures suitable for hyperthermia treatment. Web of Science 15 5 art. no. 1786

In this study we investigate the ability of RF magnetron sputtered nylon 6,6 films (C:H:N:O) to store and release two model antibiotics, ampicillin and ciprofloxacin, that differ significantly in their chemical structure. We demonstrate that the addition of nitrogen to the deposition process leads to a substantial enhancement in the abundance of nitrogen-containing functional groups in the resulting coatings as well as to the significant changes in their swelling and dissolution. These variations were found to result in different impregnation and release capabilities of the produced coatings: an almost 5 times higher amount of released antibiotics was observed for the samples prepared in nitrogen-rich atmosphere when compared to films deposited in pure argon. It was also found that the amount of released antibiotics strongly depends on the natural character of the antibiotics used. However, it is demonstrated that minimum inhibitory concentrations against S. epidermidis and E. coli can be exceeded for both antibiotics.

The impact of surface roughness on wettability and droplet drying dynamics was investigated on coatings with a spatially homogeneous chemical composition, but with a gradient in their roughness. Such coatings were prepared by a simple vacuum-based technique that utilizes a combination of a gas aggregation source of Ag nanoparticles and the radio-frequency magnetron sputtering of hydrophobic polytetrafluoroethylene. It was demonstrated that the roughness influenced not only the static water contact angle that monotonously increases with increasing roughness, but also had a strong impact on the water contact hysteresis, as well as on the dynamics of droplet drying.

Reactive magnetron sputtering deposition of plasma polymer film enriched by nitrogen-containing functional groups (NCFGs) was investigated. The main goal of our research is to obtain plasma polymerized nylon films prepared by rf magnetron sputtering with embedded –NHx functional groups in its volume. Those films can be used as “storage environment” for many chemical substances (for example, antibiotics) that need the presence of chemical grafts. Films were prepared in ternary process gas mixture of Ar (carrier gas), and N2:C2H2 (reactive component). We found that a small amount of acetylene added in the process gas results in an increased amount of NCFGs while keeping the deposited film stable in aqueous environments. However, an enhanced amount of acetylene in the process gas, above some certain limit, causes target poisoning and suppression of the nylon sputtering which practically results in the conversion of the deposition process to PECVD. When the deposition was done in a reactive atmosphere only (N2:C2H2), the required optimum flow of acetylene to incorporate maximum NCFGs into the film volume raised, but it had a negative effect on the film stability in water.

Účel – Víc jak 40 let se diskutuje otázka příčiny existence více citačních stylů. Cílem této pilotní studie bylo provést výzkum mezi českými biomedicínskými časopisy a jejich editory, jaké citační styly používají a jak důležité jsou pro ně údaje v citacích včetně jejich podoby a citačních metod. Design/metodologie/přístup – Na webech 185 českých biomedicínských časopisů byly vyhledány citační pokyny a expertní analýzou identifikovány používané citační styly a podle vzorů bibliografických citací požadované citační údaje. Formou dotazníkového šetření bylo osloveno 185 editorů českých biomedicínských časopisů za účelem zjištění, proč používají jiný citační styl než AMA, Vancouver/NLM a Uniform requirements a jak jsou důležité údaje v bibliografických citacích článku, knihy/kapitoly v knize a webové stránky a kterou preferují citační metodu. Výsledky – Ze 185 periodik styly AMA, NLM/Vancouver nebo Uniform requirements používá 16 časopisů a 34 v nějak modifikované úpravě. Ze 185 oslovených editorů 37 zodpovědělo první část dotazníku k údajům v citacích a 31 k citačním metodám. Podle nich je důležité vždy uvést autory, název článku/kapitoly, název časopisu/knihy a rok vydání. Ostatní údaje v citacích čtvrtina a více respondentů nepovažuje za důležité. Z citačních metod editoři preferují citation-seqence. Při srovnání názoru editorů a vzorů citací v jimi zastupovaných časopisech se ukázalo, že ani v jednom časopise požadované údaje neodpovídají názoru editora. Originalita/hodnota – Zatímco podle dosud publikovaných názorů jsou příčinou užívání více stylů místo standardizovaného rozdílné potřeby autorů a vydavatelů, tento pilotní výzkum odhalil možnost příčiny i v samotných standardizovaných stylech nedostatečně reflektujících reálnou praxi ve vědeckém publikování. Purpose – The cause of the existence of various citation styles has been discussed for more than 40 years. This pilot study aimed to examine Czech biomedical journals and their editors to find what citation style is recommended and editors’ bibliographic references and citation methods preferences. Design/Methodology/Approach – The research sample consisted of 185 Czech biomedical journals. Expert analysis was applied to identify citation styles used by the journals and a structure of bibliographic references. Then 185 editors were asked to fill a survey on reasons for using different citation styles than AMA, Vancouver/NLM or Uniform requirements and how important data is in bibliographic references of articles, books/chapters in books and websites. They were also asked for their citation method preferences. Results – From the 185 periodicals, AMA, NLM/Vancouver or Uniform requirements are used by 16 journals and in some modified form by 34 journals. From the 185 editors, 37 replied to the first part of the questionnaire on citation data and 31 on citation methods. According to them, authors, the title of the article/chapter, the title of the journal/book and the year of publication are the most important data in bibliographic references. However, a quarter or more respondents do not consider other data in references to be important and editors prefer citation-sequence as a citation method. Comparing the editors' opinion and the examples of references in their journals showed that none of the journals' reference data comply with the editor's opinion. Originality/Value – Formerly published studies declared a different need of authors and publishers as the main reason for using various citation styles instead of the standardized one. This pilot study brings a new view on Czech biomedical journal customs concerning references and suggests drawing attention to the fact that standardized styles may insufficiently reflect real practice in scientific publishing.

The study focuses on antibacterial Cu/C:F nanocomposites deposited onto polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) substrates. The nanocomposites were prepared by means of physical vapour deposition; copper nanoparticles (NPs), produced with the use of a gas aggregation source, were coated with RF sputtered polytetrafluorethylene. It was found that nanocomposites, formed with a properly tailored number of Cu NPs and C:F barrier thickness, offer a strong antibacterial effect against E. coli without any harm to MG63 cells.

A laminate composed from alumina and mixture of alumina and 5 vol.% of SiC as well as standards with composition of each layer were prepared using a slip-casting method for green body preparation with following spark plasma sintering. The laminate had a sharp interface between layers and no delamination was observed. Prepared materials were characterized in terms of their microstructure, hardness and fractographic analysis. Because of supposed ballistic potential all prepared ceramics were also subjected to depth of penetration testing.

The article focuses on the issue of the applied integrated resistance layers. Conductive layers are applied on the non-conductive material of cutting insert made from nitride ceramics. The layer is applied so that the cutting edge and adjacent surface create closed conductive circuit for each cutting edge separately. Throughout turning process come about wear of cutting edge and therefore wear of resistance layer. It results in decreasing of cross - section of resistance layer and increasing values of resistance. The records are carry out after individual cuts. The aim is to find the dependence between the course of wear and the course of electrical resistance during machining ductile iron EN-GJS-700-3.

This work is devoted to the identification properties of indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films responsible for their possible application in combined optical and electrochemical label-free sensing systems offering enhanced functionalities. Since any post-processing would make it difficult to identify direct relation between deposition parameters and properties of the ITO films, especially when deposition on temperature-sensitive substrates is considered, the films were deposited using reactive high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) at low temperature and with no post-deposition annealing. We focused mainly on the impact of reactive gases, such as oxygen or nitrogen introduced to the process chamber, on control over plasma parameters and subsequently properties of the films. The properties of the films were investigated using X-ray diffractometry, spectroscopic ellipsometry, four-point probe, and cyclic voltammetry. For presenting optical sensing capabilities, the tailored ITO films in addition to silicon and glass wafers were also deposited on the core of optical fibers to induce the lossy-mode resonance (LMR) phenomenon. The existence of specific deposition conditions resulting in ITO film properties offering both high-quality electrochemical and LMR responses has been experimentally proven. It has been found that the crystalline structure of ITO plays a key role in the determination of both the sensing capabilities. Finally, label-free sensing of antibody-antibody interactions in both optical and electrochemical domains for the sensor with tailored ITO film has been shown.

The paper deals with the dependence of cutting force on the breaker of an indexable cutting insert (ICI). The experiment monitored individual cutting force components for different insert breakers, cutting speeds and feed rates during machining. The cutting depth remained constant. We report and compare two vacuum-based strategies to produce Ag/Au materials characterized by double plasmon resonance peaks: magnetron sputtering and method based on the use of gas aggregation sources (GAS) of nanoparticles. It was observed that the double plasmon resonance peaks may be achieved by both of these methods and that the intensities of individual localized surface plasmon resonance peaks may be tuned by deposition conditions. However, in the case of sputter deposition it was necessary to introduce a separation dielectric interlayer in between individual Ag and Au nanoparticle films which was not the case of films prepared by GAS systems. The differences in the optical properties of sputter deposited bimetallic Ag/Au films and coatings consisted of individual Ag and Au nanoparticles produced by GAS is ascribed to the divers mechanisms of nanoparticles formation.

Not all the journals included in credible indices meet the ethical rules of COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME, and there may also be trustworthy journals excluded from these indices, which means they cannot be used as whitelists for trustworthy journals. Equally, the many methods suggested to determine trustworthiness are not reliable because they include questionable criteria. The question arises whether valid criteria for identifying an untrustworthy journal can be determined and whether other assessment procedures are necessary. Since 2017, the Masaryk University Campus Library has been developing a suitable evaluation method for journals. A list of 19 criteria based on those originally suggested by Beall, COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME were reduced to 10 objectively verifiable criteria following two workshops with librarians. An evaluation of 259 biomedical journals using both the list of 19 and then 10 criteria revealed that 74 journals may have been incorrectly assessed as untrustworthy using the longer list. The most common reason for failure to comply was in the provision of sufficient editorial information and declaration of article processing charges. However, our investigation revealed that no criteria can reliably identify predatory journals. Therefore, a complex evaluation is needed combining objectively verifiable criteria with analysis of a journal's content and knowledge of the journal's background.

Pyran-2-ones 3 undergo a novel Pd0 -catalyzed 1,3-rearrangement to afford isomers 6. The reaction proceeds via an η2 -Pd complex, the pyramidalization of which (confirmed by quantum chemistry calculations) offers a favorable antiperiplanar alignment of the Pd-C and allylic C-O bonds (C), thus allowing the formation of an η3 -Pd intermediate. Subsequent rotation and rate-limiting recombination with the carboxylate arm then gives isomeric pyran-2-ones 6. A plasma-assisted atomic layer deposition system employing a microwave surfatron plasma was developed and characterized by spatially resolved Langmuir probe diagnostics and optical emission spectroscopy. The deposition process was applied on TiO2 thin films prepared on Si wafers. The surfatron is equipped with a small ring electrode serving as a source of weak radio frequency plasma helping with fast and reliable ignition of the discharge in molecular gas. Results evaluated in the pure argon plasma proved that the plasma potential and the plasma density are homogeneous in the radial direction, while a rapid decrease was observed in the axial direction. Adding up to 30% of nitrogen into the gas mixture led to less homogeneous plasma parameters in the radial direction together with the increase of the electron effective temperature. Optical emission spectra revealed many Ar I lines of neutral atoms with only a few Ar II ions’ lines. The gradual addition of nitrogen causes a systematic decrease in the Ar I line intensity. We expect that excited nitrogen molecules are produced by the inelastic collisions with electrons and by the collisional quenching of metastable Ar(4s) states. On the other hand, oxygen atom and ion lines are detected when oxygen was mixed with argon. Deposited TiO2 thin films are characterized by the anatase phase when the substrate temperature is 250 °C. The anatase phase is observed even for the substrate temperature of 200 °C; however, the microwave power delivered into the surfatrons must be lower in comparison with the prior case.

We report here on a nanoparticle-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (NP-LDI-TOF MS) for the detection of small molecules. This technique is based on the overcoating of a dried analyte by an array of silver nanoparticles produced by gas aggregation source. This allows for the spatially homogeneous distribution of nanoparticles over the analyte that may fully substitute a conventional organic matrix routinely used for the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry and thus limit the possible interference of matrix with the low-mass molecules. Furthermore, it is shown that the intensity of the detected signal strongly correlates with the number of deposited Ag nanoparticles. At its optimum, that was found to correspond to the nanoparticle surface density of 3x103 NPs.µm−2, the detection limit was 3x10-8 g.L-1 for riboflavin. Such a high detection limit, together with good reproducibility, excellent signal stability, and imaging capability, makes this technique a valuable alternative to other laser desorption/ionization-based detection methods.

Bibliographical references to online and printed articles, books, contributions to edited books and web resources generated by EndNote, Mendeley, RefWorks and Zotero were compared with manually written references according to the citation instructions in 15 biomedical journals and the NLM citation style. The fewest mistakes were detected in references generated by Zotero for 11 journals and the NLM style, while the second fewest number of mistakes was found in Mendeley. The largest number of mistakes for 9 journals was found in references generated by EndNote and in the other 4 journals the largest number of mistakes was detected in RefWorks references. With regard to the individual types of resources, the lowest number of mistakes was shown by Zotero, while RefWorks had the greatest number of mistakes. All programs had problems especially with generating the URL and the date of access in the reference to online documents. It was also found that several mistakes were caused by technical limitations of the reference managers, while other mistakes originated due to incorrect setting of the citation styles. A comparison showed that Zotero and Mendeley are the most suitable managers.

Authors who publish in scientific or scholarly journals today face the risk of publishing in so-called predatory journals. These journals exploit the noble idea of the Open Access movement, whose goal is to make the latest scientific findings available for free. Predatory journals, unlike the reputable ones working on an Open Access basis, neglect the review process and publish low-quality submissions. The basic attributes of predatory journals are a very quick review process or even none at all, failure to be transparent about author fees for publishing an article, misleading potential authors by imitating the names of well-established journals, and false information on indexing in renowned databases or assigned impact factor. Some preventive measures against publishing in predatory journals or drawing information from them are: a thorough credibility check of the journals webpages, verification of the journals indexing on Bealls List and in the following databases: Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, ERIH PLUS and DOAJ. Asking other scientists or scholars about their experience with a given journal can also be helpful. Without these necessary steps authors face an increased risk of publishing in a journal of poor quality, which will prevent them from obtaining Research and Development Council points (awarded based on the Information Register of ResearchDevelopment results); even more importantly, it may damage their reputation as well as the good name of their home institution in the professional community.Key words: academic writing - medical journals - Open Access - predatory journals - predatory publishers - scientific publications.

Autoclaved aerated concrete is a modern construction material that gains its popularity especially due to its thermal insulation performance resulting from low volume weight and porous structure with sufficient mechanical strength. Nowadays, there are attempts to use this material for thermal insulation purposes and to replace current systems, which have many disadvantages, mainly concerning durability. The key for improvement of thermal insulation properties is therefore obtaining a material based on autoclaved aerated concrete with extremely low volume weight (below 200 kg/m ³) ensuring good thermal isolation properties, but with sufficient mechanical properties to allow easy manipulation. This material can be prepared by foaming very fine powder materials such as silica fume or very finely ground sand. This paper deals with the possibilities of preparation and summarizes the basic requirements for successful preparation of such a material.

Effective usage of fluidized bed combustion fly ash is very low. These valuable resources are mostly deposited or in the best case used as a filler in excavated areas. Only very small amount is used differently. This paper presents one of the possibilities of usage of these interesting secondary resources. The goal of this paper is to investigate possibilities of preparation of alternative aggregate based on fluid combustion fly ashes. The work is focused on the study of mechanical properties of prepared aggregates. Monitoring of other properties including impact of the quality of fly ash in time, which has been stabilized as far as possible in recent years, will be addressed in the following work.

This study investigates the effect of different admixtures on strength and porosity development of mortars and pastes based on alkali activated blast furnace slag (AABFS). Fluidized bed combustion fly ash and by-pass cement kiln dust were used to replace slag in the binder by 5%wt. and 10%wt., respectively. Pure slag mortar was also modified by a shrinkage reducing admixture. The use of all the admixtures resulted in a reduction in early age strength, while only shrinkage reducing admixture had significant impact on pore size distribution. Properties of AABFS based specimens were compared to those of specimens based on ordinary Portland cement (OPC).

In this study it is presented fully vacuum-based, substrate independent method for fabrication of fluorine-free superhydrophobic surfaces based on combination of gas aggregation sources of nanoparticles and plasma polymerization. This method involves deposition of films of nanoparticles that are subsequently overcoated by plasma polymerized n-hexane. Two different kinds of nanoparticles that differ significantly in their sizes were used: small Cu nanoparticles (mean diameter 18 nm) and big plasma polymerized C:H nanoparticles (diameter 110 nm). It is demonstrated that superhydrophobic and slippery character may be achieved when surfaces with dual-scale roughness were prepared combining bigger C:H nanoparticles with smaller Cu nanoparticles.

This article represents a multidisciplinary approach to biomechanics (engineering + medicine) in the field of distal tibia fractures. The objective of the present study was to carry out a strength and reliability assessment of a medial plate for the treatment of distal tibia fractures. This was performed via numerical modelling (FEM) and experimental methods (compression test and Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry – ESPI method). The plate is used for internal fixation in orthopaedics and traumatology. Analyses were performed for non-fused bone with comminuted fracture in the distal metaphysis (i.e. unsuccessful treatment, where all loads in the metaphysis are carried by the plate). An anatomical tibia model (based on CT images in Mimics software) was used for FE analysis. In the experiments, the bone was replaced with a shaped piece of spruce wood (based on Mimics software) and the plate was loaded until its failure (major plastic deformation). Numerical and experimental results were evaluated and compared.

In certain medical interventions, temporally introduced bone implants are required to exhibit high biocompatibility, yet combined with low osseointegration, to allow for their easy removal afterwards. In this work, Ta2O5 surfaces are developed with good biocompatibility and with the osteoblast adhesion regulated by the nano-topography. The surfaces with convex nano-curvature are produced by applying reactive magnetron sputtering of tantalum over sub-monolayers of hydrocarbon plasma polymer particles. Subsequent ultrasonication leads to the removal of the particles from the coatings and results in the formation of the surfaces with concave nano-curvature. Primary human osteoblasts are found to sustain the viability and the mineralization ability on all kinds of these surfaces; however, Ta2O5 with the concave topography shows restrained adhesion of the cells. The limited cell adhesion is associated with a closed nature of the concave cavities which poses additional potential barriers for protein-mediated cell-surface interactions.

The paper presents a theoretical as well as an experimental study of 2D-graded, two-metal nanocomposite structures built from nanoparticles (NPs). We derived a theoretical description of a planar surface (x,y) with defined NPs distribution; the linear, exponential and logarithm graded distributions are presented. The analytical model employees gradient functions of (i) nanoparticle volume surface density and (ii) volume chemical composition ratio; both mutually orthogonal across the (x,y) plane. Such graded surfaces, with variable d/d(x,y) properties, supported by an analytical model are appreciated in many applications, e.g. for tunable plasmonic absorption as studied in our case. The relevance of our approach was experimentally approved by preparation of 2D-linearly graded Ag-Cu nanocomposite; here the amount of nanoparticles, as well as chemical composition ratio, varies linearly along with the principal and minor diagonal, respectively. The nanocomposites were prepared by a two-step deposition of Ag and Cu NPs produced by a gas aggregation cluster source equipped by a movable mask.

The paper deals with the potential of employing accompanying physical phenomena, acoustic emissions, during monitoring of abrasive water jet disintegration of rotating workpiece. It focuses on the acquisition of theoretical knowledge about this technology with the aid of SEM surface analysis. Variation in traverse speed of the cutting head is used during the experiments. All values were obtained during experimental materials turning by AWJ method. The surfaces were scanned using optical profilometer MicroProf FRT to obtain surface roughness parameters such as Ra (10.75 µm–22.5 µm), Rq (13.75 µm–28.25 µm) and Rz (88 µm–166 µm). The result includes the possibility of on-line control in the form of an adaptive connection, which applies information gathered by an array of sensors and its transformation into a digital form. The acquired signals represent that with increase in traverse speed, the signal intensities decrease due to shorter interaction time. SEM images provide characteristics of surfaces created by HADRO process such as craters, peaks and valleys, micro-cracks and striations marks.

This study examined compliance with the criteria of transparency and best practice in scholarly publishing defined by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA and WAME in Biomedical Open Access journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports (JCR). 259 Open Access journals were drawn from the JCR database and on the basis of their websites their compliance with 14 criteria for transparency and best practice in scholarly publishing was verified. Journals received penalty points for each unfulfilled criterion when they failed to comply with the criteria defined by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA and WAME. The average number of obtained penalty points was 6, where 149 (57.5%) journals received 6 points or less and 110 (42.5%) journals 7 or more points. Only 4 journals met all criteria and did not receive any penalty points. Most of the journals did not comply with the criteria declaration of Creative Commons license (164 journals), affiliation of editorial board members (116), unambiguity of article processing charges (115), anti-plagiarism policy (113) and the number of editorial board members from developing countries (99). The research shows that JCR cannot be used as a whitelist of journals that comply with the criteria of transparency and best practice in scholarly publishing. Studie zjišťovala dodržování kritérií transparentnosti a dobré praxe ve vědeckém publikování definovaných COPE, DOAJ, OASPAt a WAME v biomedicínských Open Access časopisech indexovaných v Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Z JCR bylo excerpováno 259 Open Access časopisů a na jejich webech ručně ověřeno plnění 14 kritérií transparentnosti a dobré praxe ve vědeckém publikování. Časopisy obdržely penalizační body za každé nedodržení kritéria definovaného COPE, DOAJ, OASPA a WAME. Průměrný počet přidělených penalizačních bodů byl 6, přičemž 149 (57,5 %) časopisů získalo 6 a méně bodů a 110 (42,5 %) časopisů získalo 7 a více bodů. Pouze 4 periodika splnila všechna kritéria a nezískala žádný penalizační bod. Nejvíce časopisů nedodrželo kritéria deklarace Creative Commons (164 časopisů), afiliace členů redakční rady (116), jednoznačnosti autorských poplatků (115), antiplagiátorské politiky (113) a počtu členů redakční rady z rozvojových zemí (99). Výzkum ukazuje, že JCR nelze používat jako whitelist časopisů dodržujících kritéria transparentnosti a dobré praxe ve vědeckém publikování.

Urgent need for innovative and effective antibacterial coatings in different fields seems to have triggered the development of numerous strategies for the production of such materials. As shown in this short overview, plasma based techniques arouse considerable attention that is connected with the possibility to use these techniques for the production of advanced antibacterial Ag/plasma polymer coatings with tailor-made functional properties. In addition, the plasma-based deposition is believed to be well-suited for the production of novel multi-functional or stimuli-responsive antibacterial films.

Magnetron sputtering and gas aggregation sources are commonly used techniques for the preparation of metallic nanoparticles. In this study we compare both of these techniques used for the production of thin Ag nanoparticle films from the point of view of their morphology, topography and optical properties in dependence on the deposition time and substrate material. It is shown that in the case of sputter deposition, the morphology and optical properties of prepared films are dependent on the substrate material and deposition time and the resulting films are smooth with root-mean-square roughness 2 nm. By contrast, films produced using gas aggregation source are considerably rougher (root-mean-square roughness 12 nm) and consist of individual Ag nanoparticles. The deposition time affects in this case only the amount of nanoparticles on the surface and intensity of an anomalous absorption peak.

A new synthetic route towards chiral 3,5-disubstituted pyrrol-2-ones by starting from amino acids has been developed. The sequence features the conversion of amino acids into their corresponding alkynoic acid derivative followed by a Pd-catalyzed hydrostannylation of the triple bond and Stille cross-coupling reaction. A series of lactam analogues of antifungal 3-(aryl)-5-hydroxymethyl-2,5-dihydrofuran-2-ones have thus been prepared.

Účel – Od roku 2017 Knihovna univerzitního kampusu (KUK) poskytuje pracovištím v Univerzitním kampusu Bohunice službu na prověření přítomnosti znaků typických pro tzv. predátorské časopisy a vydavatele. Metoda – Po obdržení vyplněného online formuláře na webu knihovny pověření zaměstnanci analyzují formální atributy časopisů, jakými jsou kontaktní informace, autorské poplatky, redakční rada, délka recenzního řízení, indexace v odborných databázích, scientometrické metriky, Open Access režim a další. Výsledky – Během prvního roku se na KUK o tuto službu obrátilo 41 uživatelů se 134 požadavky na prověření časopisů, vydavatelů a konferencí, které trvalo úhrnem 65 hodin. Přitom bylo jako podezřelé vyhodnoceno 39 časopisů, 2 konference a 3 vydavatelé. Nejčastější prohřešky proti publikační etice byly netransparentnost recenzního řízení, (22 případů), podobnost názvu s prestižním časopisem (20), neuvedení hlavního editora (18) nebo žádný kontakt na něj (17), nedodržování periodicity (18), fiktivní osoby v redakční radě (14), nejasně stanovené autorské poplatky (13) a napodobování impakt faktoru (11). Originalita/hodnota – Z hlediska ekonomických a personálních nároků se zavedení služby ukázalo efektivnější než využívání externí služby Cabells Scholarly Analytics. Poskytování služeb zároveň vedlo ke zvýšení prestiže KUK v očích akademické obce, když práce knihovníků byla oceněna vedením lékařské fakulty či uživateli opakovaně využívající tuto službu. Zároveň poskytování služby vedlo KUK k přehodnocení relevantnosti některých znaků predátorství, otevření interní diskuse o vhodnosti pojmu „predátorské časopisy“ a přehodnocení způsobu poskytování služby na ověřování dodržování transparentnosti a dobré praxe vědeckého publikování stanoveného organizacemi COPE, DOAJ, OASPA a WAME. Purpose – Since 2017 the University Campus Library has been providing service intended to uncover typical attributes of so-called predatory journals. The service is provided exclusively to PhD students and researchers from CEITEC, Faculty of Sports Studies, Faculty of Medicine and departments of Faculty of Science situated in the University Campus Bohunice. Design/methodology/approach – Responsible persons in the library analyze formal attributes of journals e.g. contact details, author fees, editorial board, peer review, indexing in databases, metrics and Open Access. Requests are submitted via a form available on the website. Results – A total of 134 requests submitted by 41 users were handled during first year of service. It took 65 hours to perform all of these analyses. Overall 39 journals, 2 conferences and 3 publishers were found suspicious. The most frequent attributes were lack of information regarding review time (22), mimicking titles of trustworthy high-quality scholarly journals (20), no information about editor-in-chief (18) or lack of his/her contact details (17), irregular periodicity (18), fictional members of editorial board (14), unspecified or missing article processing charges and using misleading metrics. Originality/value – From economics and personal view the service proved to be more efficient and much cheaper than Cabell's Scholarly Analytics. Coincidentally providing the service has led to an increase in library reputation and a reassessment of the importance of some attributes to check. One of the side-effects is re-consideration of the term „predatory journals” and whether it is still appropriate and explanatory enough. The best way how to evaluate formal attributes of scholarly journals is on the COPE, DOAJ, OASPA and WAME principles of transparency basis.
