5. Mechanical Properties and Machinability of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polyetheretherketone

Abstract

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a new type of special engineering plastic that has broad market potentials due to its particular microstructure and mechanical properties. However, few data can be found in the literatures devoted to the mechanical properties and machinability of PEEK, especially in the superprecision field. For the first time, the microscopic mechanical properties and machinability of glassfiber-reinforced PEEK (GF/PEEK), which is one typical derivative of pure PEEK, are studied. The nanoindentation experiment was performed to analyze the microscopic mechanical properties of GF/PEEK. The machinability was studied by single-point diamond turning (SPDT) on the GF/PEEK surface, the roughness and form accuracy of the machined surface were obtained in the following test. Experimental results indicate that GF/PEEK has good microscopic mechanical properties and machinability. Полиэфирэфиркетон новый вид специального конструкционного пластика, который благодаря особой микроструктуре и механическим свойствам имеет большие возможности выхода на рынок. Однако в литературе можно найти не так много данных, относящихся к механическим свойствам и обрабатываемости полиэфирэфиркетона, особенно в сверхточной области. Впервые проведено исследование обрабатываемости и механических свойств на микроскопическом уровне полиэфирэфиркетона, упрочненного стекловолокном, который является типичным производным чистого полиэфирэфиркетона. Выполнено наноиндентирование с целью анализа механических свойств материала на микроскопическом уровне. Обрабатываемость материала изучали с помощью одноточечной алмазной обточки по его поверхности, при испытании были получены значения шероховатости и точности формы обработанной поверхности. Экспериментальные результаты свидетельствуют о хороших механических свойствах и обрабатываемости полиэфирэфиркетона, упрочненного стекловолокном.

Abstract

Abstract: In this paper, phase structure and electrochemical properties of the overstoichiometric hydrogen storage electrode alloys Zr1−x Ti x (Mn0.7V0.2Co0.1Ni1.2) have been investigated. The results showed that when the Ti content increased, the content of the C15 Laves phase decreased while that of the C14 Laves phase increased. At same time, the high Ti content inhibited the appearance of secondary phase Zr7M10 in the alloys. When x =0. 2, the storage hydrogen electrode alloy Zr0.8Ti0.2 (Mn0.7V0.2Co0.1Ni1.2) possessed the maximum discharge capacity 354mAh/g, and preserved 91% of total capacity at current 300mA/g. Due to a few La additation, the alloy Zr0.75Ti0.2La0.05Mn0.7V0.2Co0.1Ni1.2 reached the maximum capacity 372mAh/g after 4 cycles, compared to 14 cycles for the alloy without La, and preserved 93% of the maximum capacity after 30 cycles. Abstract

Abstract: The effects of substituted Zr by Ti on phase composition, microstructure and electrochemical performances of the ZrCr0.4Mn0.2V0.1Ni1.3 alloy have been investigated. The XRD results show that the main phase of the ZrCr0.4Mn0.2V0.1Ni1.3 alloy consists of C15 Laves phase, coexisting with a little C14 Laves phase and second phase Zr7Ni10. With increasing Ti content, abundance of C15 Laves phase and second phase Zr7Ni10 decreases and that of C14 Laves phase increases, and the cell volume of both C15 and C14 Laves phase decreases gradually. From SEM results, the microstructures of the Zr1−x Ti x Cr0.4Mn0.2V0.1Ni1.3 ( –0.2) alloys are found to be dendrite. When , the dendrite of the alloy disappears. The Zr0.9Ti0.1Cr0.4Mn0.2V0.1Ni1.3 alloy exhibits maximum discharge capacity 354 mAh/g and high rate discharge ability. However, it is also found that the Ti substitution for Zr decreases activation properties of the alloys. It is believed that the increase in capacity and high rate discharge capability ascribes to the increase of the amount of C14 Laves phase and the decrease of hydride formation heat.
